Essay about Symbolism in “The Story of an Hour”
The symbols and imagery used by Kate Chopin s in The Story of an Hour give the reader a sense of
Mrs. Mallard s new life appearing before her through her view of an open window (para. 4). Louise
Mallard experiences what most individuals long for throughout their lives; freedom and happiness. By
spending an hour in a comfortable, roomy armchair (para.4) in front of an open window, she
undergoes a transformation that makes her understand the importance of her freedom. The author s use
of Spring time imagery also creates a sense of renewal that captures the author s idea that Mrs.
Mallard was set free after the news of her husband s death.
Right from the moment Louise Mallard hears of her husband s death, Kate Chopin dives into a her ...

Immediately after the news of her husband s death, Mrs. Mallard races upstairs into her room where
she settles into a comfortable, roomy armchair (para.4). The armchair symbolizes the rest from the
oppressive life she had and freedom from society s expectations. Since it was tradition for women to
be married by a certain age, Louise Mallard must have obligated to marry Brently. Sitting in the
armchair, she gazes out of the window and starts indulges in deep thought, which establishes her as an
intelligent individual.
The open window from which Louise gazes is symbolic for her freedom and the good fortune that she
is now presented with. Her attention to the blue sky, fluffy clouds, tree tops and the delicious breath of
rain denote her newly found inner well being. The writer s use of language is well chosen as it
explicitly portrays Mrs. Mallard s true feelings. By capturing all the senses, the imagery created
represents Louise s new life and establishes her as a round character. The open window provides a
clear and bright view into the distance of Louise s own bright future, which was obstructed by the
demands of her husband.
As Mrs. Mallard left the room, there was a feverish triumph in her eyes, and she carried herself
unwittingly like a goddess of Victory (para.19). The goddess of victory (para.19) embodies Louise s
triumph over repression, over the powerful will bending hers in that blind persistence...right to impose

Jazz Music Performance Review Essay
On the evening of October 18th, 2015 I attended the live Jazz music performance of Nilson Matta s
Brazilian Voyage . The performance was held at Dizzy s Club Coca Cola, located in the Jazz Lincoln
Center, in New York City. Nilson Matta is a Brazilian bassist, composer, and producer. Matta is
considered to be one of the greatest bass musicians in the world, and has earned great reputation for
his unique sounds (Nilson). The staff members were very welcoming, and were all dressed in black
attire. The venue had dim lighting, and each table had a lighted candle; which created a nice romantic
and intimate atmosphere. Behind the stage, there is a spectacular scene that overlooks Central Park,
and the city. At the beginning of the performance, Nilson Matta, and three other musicians walked up
on stage, and introduced themselves. The musicians were, Mauricio Zottarelli (drummist), Craig
Handy (saxophonist/flautist), Helen Sung (pianist), and of course Nilson Matta (bassist). Matta
commenced the performance with a piece called Para Ti (For You), which he dedicated to Rio de
Jainero. Matta began to play the double bass instrument. Although, it was huge in size, the timbre was
dull. Following this, the rest of the musicians played along, creating beautiful harmonies, and
Brazilian rhythms. The sounds of each instrument were clear in this piece, but the unique sound of the
saxophone played by Handy, stood out the most. Helen Sung, also played the piano with great
intensity and passion. She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was able to embrace and appreciate the different fusions and dynamics of contemporary Brazilian

Of the many historical eras, the 1960 era is regarded as...
Of the many historical eras, the 1960 era is regarded as one of the most controversial eras ever in the
history of America. However, this was not the anticipation that most of American citizens had. At the
very beginning of the 1960s, many believed that this was perhaps the most promising era yet. They
even dubbed this era the golden age. The expectations of the people intensified in 1961 when John F.
Kennedy took the office of the president. His charisma and enthusiasm won the hearts and trust of the
American people. They strongly believed that his government would provide solutions to the major
problems that they were facing at the time. However, to the surprise of many, the decade turned out to
be the complete opposite of what they had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This party movement was however founded for the sole purpose of eradicating police brutality in
African American neighborhoods. However, with the rapid expansion of the party and the start of a
publication, the objectives of the party had diversified. This diversification meant that the party was
keener on social empowerment thus disregarding the exclusivity of race. This however sparked up
problems within the party since the radical members differed in opinion with the members that were in
support of their socialistic cause. This made the party s political motive to be disoriented and the
government at that time considered the party as a national threat.
The Black community of the United States was not the only entity that was fighting for its civil rights.
Gender inequality was still a societal vice that America was struggling with. During this time, men
were given more opportunities as compared to women in virtually every field and this led to the
second wave of the feminist movement. The job market viewed women as the less productive species.
One of the reasons why this notion was upheld was because the women needed time off when they
delivered and most employers believed the assertion that women would quit their job when they got
pregnant. More to this, the society had branded the man as the provider of the home. It was therefore
argued that men needed jobs and better pay than women because of the fact

My Favorite Web Site and Why
Some Works Cited Missing
In contrast to most of the other people in this class, I had never done any net surfing. So to prepare for
this paper I explored the WWW for approximately seven hours. This helped to create an impression on
me of what constitutes a good Web site. Finally, I decided on a favorite SF/CP Web site and I asked
myself what made this site better than others. The Web site is dedicated to William Gibson (Foley) site
which scrolls a picture of the writer on the site projecting an air of authority. The problem with the
William Gibson site is that the background does little to complement the site. The background for the

The Tone Of Decay In Hamlet
Early on in the play, Shakespeare establishes a tone of decay after Hamlet s death when Marcellus
says, Something is rotten in the state of Denmark (I. iv. 90). These distinctive words continue to be
proven time and time again throughout the course of the play. To begin with, Gertrude and Claudius s
incestuous relationship starts up the chain of strange events. Hamlet recalls in a soliloquy She married.
O most wicked speed, to post / With such dexterity to incestuous sheets! / It is not nor it cannot come
to good (I. ii. 156 158). Claudius is supposedly the messenger of God on Earth; however, his actions
are that of an immoral and dishonourable man. Gertrude is quick to forget her husband and enters into
an incestuous relationship, suggesting

Operating System:
An operating system is an interface between a user and the hardware of a computer. It is just a set of
software that manages computer hardware and controls the operations on the computer. Operating
system is the base of the application programs because they cannot contact the hardware directly. It
does not do any work itself; it just provides an environment in which the other programs on a
computer can run. Therefore, when a user enters or sends a command the operating system makes sure
that the command is executed or not, if not it displays a message explaining the error. Without
operating system a computer is of no use it is just a metal block.
Types of Operating System When considering about the types of operating systems, generally there
are four types:
Real time operating systems:
These kinds of operating system are used to control machines, scientific instruments and industrial

Irving Washington s Rip Van Winkle
Irving Washington s Rip Van Winkle is one of the most famous and acclaimed works as well as one of
Irving s biggest successes. Irving wrote it after the American Revolution and during that time is when
America s society was still developing and becoming it s a government of its own. This short story
shows how a new, thriving America had gained freedom, but then that freedom came with a price as it
meant that the newly freed country would eventually have had to struggle to establish its own identity.
In the story, Irving actually represented these feelings of uncertainly through the titular Rip Van
Winkle.
The story takes place in a setting in a colonial America and when it was still being ruled by Britain;
Rip Van Winkle, while he was a good man he had his own boredom and problems that he did not deal
with, including a nagging wife. This all changed when he fell asleep for 20 years and awoke to the
same surroundings only everything about it had changed, from his home to the buildings, to the people
and to the whole culture he once knew. Everything around him is new, nothing he knew before was
there and he was almost like a fish out of water; his village was altered as the people were now
different and with different mannerisms and the America he once knew had been freed from Britain
(Irving, pg. 36). Even the entire disposition of the village was different since it no longer had the
accustomed phlegm and drowsy tranquility and was much busier and lively (Irving, pg.

History and Origin of the Vatican City
History of Vatican and Vatican City:
Vatican is regarded as the most ancient religious and political institution that exists in the modern
world because of its antique history. In addition to being the most ancient political and religious
institution, Vatican is the seat of independent, sovereign, and Free State of Catholic Church s
Government. Actually, this institution is the shrewdest diplomatic political power across the globe
with its diplomatic quality being the most important worldwide. The shrewdness of its diplomatic
political power originates from its inclusion of the three major aspects of the Catholic Church i.e.
sovereignty, independence, and freedom. While it s diplomatic quality is significant around the globe,
its independence as a State is regarded as one of the newest (Manhattan, 1949, p.11). Notably, the
diplomatic and political power of Vatican can be understood through tracing its history and the history
of the Vatican City.
Origin of the Vatican City:
Vatican City was formed on February 11, 1929 following the signing of the Treaty of Conciliation by
Benito Mussolini and the cardinal Pietro Gasparri, the State Secretary of Pius XI. While the signing of
the Lateran Pacts between Italy and the Holy See paved way for the formation of this city, the pacts
were ratified on June 7, 1929 ( Vatican City in the Past , n.d.). Since then, the nature of the Vatican
City as a sovereign State that is different from the Holy See is widely recognized under

The Education System And The American Educational System
The culture in and surrounding Uganda has fascinated me for a year or two now. I went to Kabale
Uganda for a mission trip during my spring break of senior year. I was able to teach the students there
for two weeks with my team and fell in love with it instantly. That trip spurred my desire to teach in
less fortunate countries once I finish college.
Once of the most significant differences between the Ugandan educational system and the American
educational system that I saw was that access to education was so limited in Uganda. In 1997 Uganda
initiated what they called Universal Primary Education (UPE), which aims to decrease poverty by
making primary (elementary) school free, there by more accessible to it s students. (Bategeka and
Okurut, 2006). The problem with UPE is that the government decides what schools will be part of the
UPE program. Which means, the more remote areas may not have a school that is supported by UPE
in walking distance. There is no other form of transportation for these students, it is highly uncommon
for a family to own a car, and if they re extremely fortunate they may own a bicycle. This forces the
students to go to a boarding school (Outreach Uganda, 2009). The boarding fees are around $2.00 in
U.S. currency a semester. At first appeared to be very manageable to me until I was told while in
Uganda that $2.00 in American currency converted to the Ugandan currency was roughly 2700
shillings That is more than my college tuition that theses families

Baroque Art And Art
The Rococo era was an imaginatively experimental and colorful period of time in France in which
highly ornamented fashion and décor were at the forefront of fashion. The Rococo movement was
already vaguely invented during the Late Baroque era in Italy, but after gaining some headway, it was
then pushed by King Louis XV of France who was very interested in showcasing luxury, wealth, and
good taste of that time through art and fashion. By the mid 1700 s, the majority of France was sick of
the dull, looming, and dark aesthetic of the Baroque era. Once the Rococo era came about, home décor
and fashion consisted of much more brightly decorated, overwhelming colors and opulent designs and
textures. The concept of the Rococo was that more is better in terms of garments and fabrics, furniture,
and other leisurely activities and decor. Just as the Siamese delegation had a lasting effect on the court
of Louis XIV, so did the visit of an ambassadorial retinue led by Mehmed Efendi in 1720 1721,
stamping the court with all kinds of turquerie, enmeshing itself more freely with the lachinage of the
former century (remembering also that chinoiserie was very much alive and a central element to the
germination of the rococo), (Fashion and Orientalism, page 63). Another factor that played into the
Rococo was the fact that women had a bit more authority in the sense that they were allowed to hold
positions of power. This is why Madame de Pompadour was incredibly well known as she

Afghanist The Struggle Of The Taliban
Afghanistan is a very unstable country. It struggles socially, economically and politically. A big reason
why they struggle is the Taliban taking over their country and not letting them have their freedom. The
Taliban doesn t let women go outside without covering their faces with a burqa and without a male
escort. There are many other reasons but I believe that Afghanistan struggles so much because of lack
of education and having an unstable government.
Afghanistan has struggled so much socially because of their lack of education. After the Soviets left,
the Afghans wanted to keep shooting at something so they decided to shoot at each other (The
Breadwinner.) With an education, they would realize that killing people of your own kind is not

Mystery Mixture Lab Report
Someone hands you a container of a mysterious white mixture, and they give you the task to figure out
what it is. What would you do to solve the problem at hand? Many scientists might find physical and
chemical properties to figure it out. The scientists might look for, odor change, temperature change,
fizzing, and bubbling for chemical properties. They also inspect the mixtures for physical properties
before a chemical reaction occurs, including shape, size, color, texture, and smell. The Eighth grade
thinks that the mystery mixture is C6H8O7(Citric Acid) and NaHCO3(Baking Soda).
The class believes that it is C6H8O7 and NaHCO3 because of their physical and chemical properties.

They ruled this combination out by comparing its physical and chemical properties to those of the
mystery mixture. One of the differences between the mystery mixture and the mixture of MgSO4,
C6H8O7, and NaHCO3 is during the chemical reaction. During the reaction of the mystery mixture
the bubbles and only about one centimeter high. During the reaction of MgSO4, C6H8O7, and
NaHCO3, the bubbles were approximately one inch tall. Another difference during the chemical
reaction was the time that the two mixtures fizzed. The mystery mixture fizzed for about 3 minutes
and 14 seconds. The combination of MgSO4, C6H8O7, and NaHCO3 fizzed for approximately 5
minutes and 47 seconds. Thirdly, the eighth grade scientists decided to eliminate MgSO4, C6H8O7,
and NaHCO3 as a possibility to be the mystery mixture because during the reaction the mystery
mixture s temperature was 16.5oC at the end of the reaction. While the combination of MgSO4,
C6H8O7, and NaHCO3 ended up at 17.6oC. Finally, the scientist knew that they could rule out the
mixture of MgSO4, C6H8O7, and NaHCO3 is because they noticed that the chunks in the mystery
mixture were not shiny, but very dull, and the lumps in the mix of MgSO4, C6H8O7, and NaHCO3

Charles Dickens Struggles
During the Victorian era, which spanned from 1837 to 1901 under the reign of Queen Victoria, there
was a great growth in the industry and in prosperity for Great Britain, and coupled with this growth
was another in the social classes, particularly with an emphasis on the fine upper class. This growth of
focus on the upper class and subsequently the lack of focus on the poor lower class were brought to
the attention of author Charles Dickens, and he, one of many times, chronicles the ideals of social

this manifestation of imposed pride caused great fear for the Allies. President Truman felt that

Truman decided to drop the atomic bombs on Japan, which were originally intended to be dropped on

A Summary Of Bleaching
When it comes to pitching a baseball, there is more to it than what meets the eye. There are different
rules and procedures for left handed than there is for right handed pitchers. The many steps involved
in pitching come together into a fluid motion. There are two types of pitching motions: The windup
and the set. I will explain the steps of a right hander pitching in the windup, which will be the same
steps that the Major League Baseball players use. The first step: Both of the heels start off on the
pitching rubber, while the toes are pointed toward home plate. The pitcher holds the baseball in his
glove throughout this whole process, until the last step. During this, the pitcher s attention is focused

Biographical Interpretation Essay
Many people view poems and other pieces of writing in different ways, there is no wrong or right way
to interpret a work of someone, it merely your point of view; your opinions. In Sylvia Plath s poem
Daddy , many could say that it was a about a hard relationship she had with her father, but how do we
know? It could be about her father, husband, strong authority figure, or even God. But, as I read
Daddy I got the strong sense that it was mostly about her father. The poem suggests that she had either
an unhealthy relationship with him or she was angry with him for leaving her. In the poem, Plath says
I have always been scared of you (41); I view this as she may not have had the best relationship with
him. Maybe he was abusive or mean. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Daddy is a poem where Plath expressed her most personal feelings about her father and ultimately her
husband also. In the poem, when Plath writes And then I knew what to do. / I made a model of you, /
A man in black with a Meinkampf look. (63 65). It suggests that she possibly actually went to her
father s grave and maybe she tried to dig up her father s bones to prove to her that he was really dead.
Or, possibly these lines mean that she married someone who was a lot like him. She married someone
who she could look at every day and who reminds her of her father. But, if this poem is about her sad
relationship with him, why would she want to be reminded of him every day? This only makes me
come to the conclusion that she did not have a horrible relationship with him, she was just angry with
him for leaving her, for dying. As you can tell there can be many different interpretations for Sylvia
Plath s poem Daddy . I believe that this poem is about Sylvia, who is angry with her father for dying
and leaving her behind, who wants to express her feelings towards this in a poem. She writes deep,
dark, meaningful, thoughts on her emotions and her actions to get back to him. I think that this poem
is very unique in the way that she describes her life in the poem; she goes from when he died to when
she was thirty, and along the way uses many analogies to describe her feelings. She also uses many
symbolic phrases that could

Essay on Effect of violence seen on Television
The Effects of Violence Seen on Television
One Saturday morning when I was five years old, I was watching an episode of the Roadrunner on
television. As Wile Coyote was pushed off a cliff by the roadrunner for the fourth or fifth time, I
started laughing uncontrollably. I then watched a Bugs Bunny show and started laughing whenever I
saw Elmer Fudd shoot Daffy Duck and his bill went twirling around his head. The next day, I pushed
my brother off a cliff and shot my dog to see ifs its head would twirl around.
Obviously, the last sentence is not true. The example above is an exaggeration of the effects of

Some watched cartoons that had many violent and aggressive acts; others watched shows that did not
have any kind of violence. The researchers noticed real differences between the children who watched
violent shows and those who watched non violent shows. Children who watched the violent shows
were more likely to argue, disobey, strike playmates, and become impatient ( ). Children s minds are
like sponges; they take in everything around them, and unless they are told something is not ok, they
will believe that it is ok to do the example presented to them.
From personal observation of working around children for about twenty hours per week, children do
imitate the violent acts they see on television. Physical Violence is more notable in boys than girls,
whereas girls are more violent verbally than physically. I note two different instances when
entertaining a group of kids in a birthday party. At a birthday party of nine year old boys, they tend to
become bored and distracted very easily. I turned my back for only a few minutes when a boy began
imitating wrestling moves he had seen on a wrestling television show. I am sure the show he saw was
for entertainment purposes only and was never meant to be reenacted; however, he was under the
impression that the wrestling moves were ok to try on his friends. At a ten year old girls birthday

Groundwater Contamination Research Paper
When there is an addition of undesired substances from human activities in the groundwater, it can
cause groundwater contamination. There are many industrial operations that cause contamination in
ground water, due to the large quantities of chemicals used. Chlorinated hydrocarbons, which are used
in cleaning products and solutions containing chromium, which are used in metal plating, lead to the
groundwater contamination. These industrial wastes are dumped in storage tanks and they leak, thus
causing contamination. There is greater awareness of the issues and hazards of the dumping of
chemical waste and there are laws restricting the dumping of this waste. Since many individuals rely
on groundwater for drinking water, many of them are drinking contaminated water. Due to this, there
are many health risks including, hepatitis, poisoning and cancer when exposed to polluted water. As
well, the wildlife can be harmed from the contaminated ground water. A good disposal method of
ground waste consists of a chemical treatment that is able to convert the hazardous waste into
environmentally safe materials. A highly toxic chemical, trichloroethylene, becomes non toxic when
the chlorine atoms are converted to chloride anions. As well, when chromium containing waste has

Essay on Two Methods of Defending the Trinity
Two Methods of Defending the Trinity
Christians believe in one God, yet the apparent contradictory nature of the Trinity is such that it has
caused many to doubt whether Christianity is indeed monotheistic. This has consequently caused
Christians to defend their monotheism in relation to the Trinity. In the two such defenses that are
studied in this essay, we find that Christians have explained the nature of Trinity with varying degrees
of effectiveness and success. Timothy the Patriarch defends the Trinity before the Caliph Madhi with
few compelling arguments, and Gregory of Nyssa explains it in a more abstract and therefore more
effective way. Each however defends the Trinity according to his understanding of it. ... Show more

Timothy offers several apt analogies comparing the Trinity to earthly things, yet he fails to offer a
compelling argument to refute the Caliph s simple yet powerful statement: If He is one, He is not
three; and if He is three he is not one; what is this contradiction? (69).
The most obvious of Timothy s logical errors is that he assumes (naturally) that the Son of the Trinity
is in fact the Christ or Messiah of the Hebrew Scripture. He therefore refers to Hebrew Scripture to
show that the Son is equal and not subservient to the Father: God, therefore, called Christ a Lord
through the prophet David, and since no true lord is a servant, it follows that Christ is not a servant
(82). The flaw in this logic, or at least the reason for its failure to convince the Caliph, lies in the fact
that the Caliph cannot believe that Jesus is the Christ. The logic is also flawed from a modern point of
view, for there the writers of the Hebrew Scripture knew neither Jesus nor the concept of the Trinity. It
would therefore be anachronistic to use such references or to claim for example that the We of the
creation story in Genesis refers to the Christian Trinity.
Timothy makes similar mistakes in reference to the Koran and the Gospels. He says, It is also possible

Reflection Paper In English
In my initial submission for Lesson 1, I recall being amused by the statement in the introduction of
Navigating English Grammar that humans have always been fascinated by language. Then, and now,
this still seems like an understatement to me. Language is an incredible facet to me and humans of all
ages. To consider that an infant can communicate with few words and more gestures and then continue
to develop the use of language as the number of words increase proves to be such an interesting
phenomenon which has an influence on a human s existence. This influence permeates throughout
language in formal or informal use. In that same lesson, I recall the childhood influences upon my
language development. Being a young Southern woman, a distinct dialect permeated my childhood
environments; from home, school, and small community, the slow, slang filled conversations
enlightened me in the ways of people around me. This information partnered with the Grammar Quest
proved that my own method of verb usage perplexed me. The instruction received in my local
elementary and middle school demonstrated an error in my grandfather s way of speaking; therefore,
my way of speaking did not follow prescriptive rules, and additional instruction was deemed
necessary. With this review and research of prior writings, the use of verbs and verb forms used in a
prescriptive nature proves to be an area of concern for my own proper use of Standard English.
The following are samples of my own writing; The

The Taranaki War Was A War
The Taranaki war was a war that began in March 17 1860 and ended a year later, between the British
forces and Te Ati Awa tribe aided with kingitanga from the Maori Kingdom in Waikato, that began in
Waitara, Taranaki, and eventually spread out through the neighbouring areas of Taranaki region to
New Plymouth and Omata through strategic geographic isolation attempted by the British. Fought by
the thousands of troops from the British Imperial empire aided with troops from other British imperial
empires in Australia and Britain however orchestrated and started by NZ government and led by its
interests against the Maori tribes of Taranaki, consisting of around 600 Maori soldiers plus the
hundreds that arrived from Waikato, that practised guerilla warfare mostly. The motive of the NZ
British powers in orchestrating the war were to destroy the resistance of land grabbing in Taranaki
exerted by the Maori tribe Te Ati Awa. The Maori tribe leader claiming to own the land under Te Ati
Awa, Wiremu Kingi , decided to resist the British NZ government s attempt to utilize Te Ati Awa land
they purchased from a lower member of the tribe Te Ati Awa Te Teira that lived on that land, because
it was in Wiremu Kingi s interests as supreme Te Ati Awa chief to keep all the land proclaimed under
Te Ati Awa. This resistance led Britain to exert force against Kingi in order to succeed in their attempt
to claim land they believe they bought justifiably. After years of conflict, an even 200+

The Consequences Of Editing Ethics In Frankenstein By Mary...
In science laboratories all around the world, scientists are hard at work creating a multitude of
products. But when these products are related to bringing a life into the world, the situation could get
rather complicated. Frankenstein, a novel by Mary Shelley, tells the story of a scientist gone mad after
creating life out of death, while the articles titled Kazuo Ishiguro s uncanny science by Daniel
Marchalik and Ann Jurecic (Source A), Pondering the consequences of gene editing by Joel
Achenbach (Source B), and CRISPR, the disruptor by Heidi Ledford (Source C), talk about the
consequences of gene editing software in the world. The novel and articles both bring into the
question ethics and morality. A creator is responsible for his own actions, his creation, and the rest of
society, as shown by both the story of Frankenstein and the articles about the use of gene editing
software by scientists around the world.
As a creator, a scientist is responsible for just about everything he does in a lab and should admit any
mistakes he has committed in his study. Frankenstein would rather suffer living torture than confess
[himself] guilty of the crime ascribed to Justine and be considered a madman (64). Instead of coming
clean about the creature during William s murder trial, he keeps quiet and does not tell anyone about
the monster he created and Justine goes to jail for a crime she did not commit. Frankenstein could be

After teaching for two years at Malder. Washington went to

Gay Marriage Should be Banned
1. Introduction
Gay marriage has been in hot debate for a while now. What once was shunned in almost every culture
and society is now creeping into our laws and customs as normal and even acceptable due to the
increase of radicals found in Anglo Saxon societies such as the US and UK. Fueled by the recent
revolutions of women and interracial groups, homosexuals (a group less than 1 percent of the world s
population), have finally taken a stand. Marriage has been a union of opposite sexes for nearly 5000
years and now has come into such scrutiny that it has taken on the attention of the Supreme Court. On
April 28th, 2015, the Supreme Court began the case of Obergefell v. Hodge, the dispute which would
settle the legalization of gay marriage in the entire US. From such a case, the question arises: Should
gay marriage be legalized in the United States? After analyzing the points on both sides of the feud, I
came to the clear conclusion that the answer was no, gay marriage should become and continue to be
illegal in the United States.
2. Why Should we Ban Gay Marriage?
II.A.
Marriage was originally intended as the union of two people of opposite gender in order to create a
procreation flesh. The problem with this is that a gay marriage, or union of two males or two females,
would produce an entirely sterile couple who could not produce children with each other. Although
seemingly harmless, this

Education During The 20th Century
During the 20th century, education in Tibetan society was not highly regarded due to the fact that
Tibetans did not view education as useful. Tibetans believed that their role in Tibetan society was
already determined, and there were no means of social or economic advancement. However, Palden
Gyatso, Tashi Tsering, and Phutsok, Tibetan males, challenge those notions by obtaining different
types of education in distinctive ways. Palden Gyatso, Tashi Tsering, and Phutsok s actions allow
other Tibetans to realize that education is not confined to a single type of education as education can
range from religious education to an informal type of education obtained by various tutors, and to a
formal education obtained in a school. Palden Gyatso, Tashi Tsering, and Phutsok not only share the
need to obtain an education, but their attitude is similar. They knew that at times they needed to be
assertive and fight against the opinion and challenges administrated by their authoritative figures, but
they also knew at other times they were required to be submissive in order to further their education.
In addition, they face identical authoritative figures: parental, religious, and educational figures, who
challenge them. It is critical to note that Tashi and Palden s stories, in terms of their education, focuses
on the time period before the Chinese invaded Tibet. On the other hand, Phutsok s story, in terms of
his education, focuses on the time after the Chinese invade Tibet.

Genetically Modified Organisms and Food Production
Foods produced from organisms which have been encountered with specific changes brought in to
their DNA utilizing the mode of genetic engineering is known as genetically modified food. These
DNA modification techniques have permitted for the introduction of latest and innovative crop
attributes as well as gain a great control over the genetics structure of the food which was then
previously sustained by modes such as selective and mutation breeding (King). In 1995 the
Commercial sale of this food had been started. Calgene marketed its first genetically modified food
named Flavr Savr which was ripening tomatoes (Bruening and Lyons). Most of the modifications of
genetic food have initially been focused on the highly demanded cash crops such as Corn, Canola,
Soybean and Cotton Seed Oil. These have been designed and engineered for resistance to herbicides
and better nutritional profiles. Genetically modified livestock have also been introduced but has not
been introduced in the market.
We would not have any idea that meat, vegetable or fruits, supposed to purchase by us, are genetically
modified, every time we go to super markets. In order to make this situation worst most of the
consumers do not pay special importance to the food they are eating, when they are actually
consuming genetically modified food. As per the figures estimated by Institute for Responsible
Technology (2007) in the United States 91% of corn, 79% of soybean and 89% of Canola are sold

The Involvement Of The Cyber Attack
In 2007 Estonia was one of the most developed nations in Europe in terms of information and
communication technology advancement. Estonia had a common practice of relying on the internet for
business transactions. In the early weeks of spring, Estonia was hit by a series of politically motivated
cyber attacks. Numerous parties and organisation suffered different forms of denial of service. The
main parties included the Estonian government agencies, schools, banks and Internet Service
Providers. The motivation for the cyber attack was due to the fact that the Estonian government made
the decision to move a Soviet memorial of World War II from its previous or initial location in central
Tallinn to a military cemetery. This resulted to an outburst and riots in the Estonian streets, violence
towards the Ambassador of Estonia, Russia implementing indirect economic sanctions and the most
relevant, politically motivated cyber attack against Estonia. The Estonian state wasn t critically
affected from the cyber attack of 2007, since to a high extend the state functions and objects of
demanding information infrastructure were not interrupted. However, the world received a wake up
call on the new and emerging threats of cyber attacks.

Role Of Art In The Gilded Age
The American Role of Art
The Gilded Age, named after the novel written by Mark Twain, describes a time full of social issues in
the United States. After the Civil War, America was a powerhouse in industrialization. Due to the
rapid economic development the rich got richer and the poor got, well they got poorer. The Gilded
Age depicts the huge financial, social, and political changes that the United States had undergone from
the ladder part of the nineteenth century up until World War I.
Art in the United States became somewhat of a necessity during this time; the wealthy sought to fill
their home with the finer things. The painters of this time aimed to glorify the reality of the subjects;
focusing on elegant lines and colors. John Singer Sargent was one of the most pursued artists, well
known for his portraits. Madame X brought Sargent to fame. Although first considered to be too
provocative; a beautiful woman in a figure fitting dress with a plunging neckline it became a high
demand piece. Jules Guerin, a muralist known for his work in the Lincoln Memorial, depicting the
most notable moments throughout his Presidential Era. Above the inscription of the Gettysburg

  • 2. Essay about Symbolism in “The Story of an Hour” The symbols and imagery used by Kate Chopin s in The Story of an Hour give the reader a sense of Mrs. Mallard s new life appearing before her through her view of an open window (para. 4). Louise Mallard experiences what most individuals long for throughout their lives; freedom and happiness. By spending an hour in a comfortable, roomy armchair (para.4) in front of an open window, she undergoes a transformation that makes her understand the importance of her freedom. The author s use of Spring time imagery also creates a sense of renewal that captures the author s idea that Mrs. Mallard was set free after the news of her husband s death. Right from the moment Louise Mallard hears of her husband s death, Kate Chopin dives into a her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Immediately after the news of her husband s death, Mrs. Mallard races upstairs into her room where she settles into a comfortable, roomy armchair (para.4). The armchair symbolizes the rest from the oppressive life she had and freedom from society s expectations. Since it was tradition for women to be married by a certain age, Louise Mallard must have obligated to marry Brently. Sitting in the armchair, she gazes out of the window and starts indulges in deep thought, which establishes her as an intelligent individual. The open window from which Louise gazes is symbolic for her freedom and the good fortune that she is now presented with. Her attention to the blue sky, fluffy clouds, tree tops and the delicious breath of rain denote her newly found inner well being. The writer s use of language is well chosen as it explicitly portrays Mrs. Mallard s true feelings. By capturing all the senses, the imagery created represents Louise s new life and establishes her as a round character. The open window provides a clear and bright view into the distance of Louise s own bright future, which was obstructed by the demands of her husband. As Mrs. Mallard left the room, there was a feverish triumph in her eyes, and she carried herself unwittingly like a goddess of Victory (para.19). The goddess of victory (para.19) embodies Louise s triumph over repression, over the powerful will bending hers in that blind persistence...right to impose a private ... • 3. Jazz Music Performance Review Essay On the evening of October 18th, 2015 I attended the live Jazz music performance of Nilson Matta s Brazilian Voyage . The performance was held at Dizzy s Club Coca Cola, located in the Jazz Lincoln Center, in New York City. Nilson Matta is a Brazilian bassist, composer, and producer. Matta is considered to be one of the greatest bass musicians in the world, and has earned great reputation for his unique sounds (Nilson). The staff members were very welcoming, and were all dressed in black attire. The venue had dim lighting, and each table had a lighted candle; which created a nice romantic and intimate atmosphere. Behind the stage, there is a spectacular scene that overlooks Central Park, and the city. At the beginning of the performance, Nilson Matta, and three other musicians walked up on stage, and introduced themselves. The musicians were, Mauricio Zottarelli (drummist), Craig Handy (saxophonist/flautist), Helen Sung (pianist), and of course Nilson Matta (bassist). Matta commenced the performance with a piece called Para Ti (For You), which he dedicated to Rio de Jainero. Matta began to play the double bass instrument. Although, it was huge in size, the timbre was dull. Following this, the rest of the musicians played along, creating beautiful harmonies, and Brazilian rhythms. The sounds of each instrument were clear in this piece, but the unique sound of the saxophone played by Handy, stood out the most. Helen Sung, also played the piano with great intensity and passion. She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was able to embrace and appreciate the different fusions and dynamics of contemporary Brazilian jazz music. The musicians really gave their all on stage, and the performance was spectacular. They projected a joyful and energetic vibe, throughout the entire concert. • 4. Of the many historical eras, the 1960 era is regarded as... Of the many historical eras, the 1960 era is regarded as one of the most controversial eras ever in the history of America. However, this was not the anticipation that most of American citizens had. At the very beginning of the 1960s, many believed that this was perhaps the most promising era yet. They even dubbed this era the golden age. The expectations of the people intensified in 1961 when John F. Kennedy took the office of the president. His charisma and enthusiasm won the hearts and trust of the American people. They strongly believed that his government would provide solutions to the major problems that they were facing at the time. However, to the surprise of many, the decade turned out to be the complete opposite of what they had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This party movement was however founded for the sole purpose of eradicating police brutality in African American neighborhoods. However, with the rapid expansion of the party and the start of a publication, the objectives of the party had diversified. This diversification meant that the party was keener on social empowerment thus disregarding the exclusivity of race. This however sparked up problems within the party since the radical members differed in opinion with the members that were in support of their socialistic cause. This made the party s political motive to be disoriented and the government at that time considered the party as a national threat. The Black community of the United States was not the only entity that was fighting for its civil rights. Gender inequality was still a societal vice that America was struggling with. During this time, men were given more opportunities as compared to women in virtually every field and this led to the second wave of the feminist movement. The job market viewed women as the less productive species. One of the reasons why this notion was upheld was because the women needed time off when they delivered and most employers believed the assertion that women would quit their job when they got pregnant. More to this, the society had branded the man as the provider of the home. It was therefore argued that men needed jobs and better pay than women because of the fact ... • 5. My Favorite Web Site and Why Essay My Favorite Web Site and Why Some Works Cited Missing In contrast to most of the other people in this class, I had never done any net surfing. So to prepare for this paper I explored the WWW for approximately seven hours. This helped to create an impression on me of what constitutes a good Web site. Finally, I decided on a favorite SF/CP Web site and I asked myself what made this site better than others. The Web site is dedicated to William Gibson (Foley) site which scrolls a picture of the writer on the site projecting an air of authority. The problem with the William Gibson site is that the background does little to complement the site. • 6. The Tone Of Decay In Hamlet Early on in the play, Shakespeare establishes a tone of decay after Hamlet s death when Marcellus says, Something is rotten in the state of Denmark (I. iv. 90). These distinctive words continue to be proven time and time again throughout the course of the play. To begin with, Gertrude and Claudius s incestuous relationship starts up the chain of strange events. Hamlet recalls in a soliloquy She married. O most wicked speed, to post / With such dexterity to incestuous sheets! / It is not nor it cannot come to good (I. ii. 156 158). • 9. Irving Washington s Rip Van Winkle Irving Washington s Rip Van Winkle is one of the most famous and acclaimed works as well as one of Irving s biggest successes. Irving wrote it after the American Revolution and during that time is when America s society was still developing and becoming it s a government of its own. This short story shows how a new, thriving America had gained freedom, but then that freedom came with a price as it meant that the newly freed country would eventually have had to struggle to establish its own identity. In the story, Irving actually represented these feelings of uncertainly through the titular Rip Van Winkle. The story takes place in a setting in a colonial America and when it was still being ruled by Britain; Rip Van Winkle, while he was a good man he had his own boredom and problems that he did not deal with, including a nagging wife. This all changed when he fell asleep for 20 years and awoke to the same surroundings only everything about it had changed, from his home to the buildings, to the people and to the whole culture he once knew. Everything around him is new, nothing he knew before was there and he was almost like a fish out of water; his village was altered as the people were now different and with different mannerisms and the America he once knew had been freed from Britain (Irving, pg. 36). Even the entire disposition of the village was different since it no longer had the accustomed phlegm and drowsy tranquility and was much busier and lively (Irving, pg. ... History and Origin of the Vatican City History of Vatican and Vatican City: Vatican is regarded as the most ancient religious and political institution that exists in the modern world because of its antique history. In addition to being the most ancient political and religious institution, Vatican is the seat of independent, sovereign, and Free State of Catholic Church s Government. Actually, this institution is the shrewdest diplomatic political power across the globe with its diplomatic quality being the most important worldwide. The shrewdness of its diplomatic political power originates from its inclusion of the three major aspects of the Catholic Church i.e. sovereignty, independence, and freedom. While it s diplomatic quality is significant around the globe, its independence as a State is regarded as one of the newest (Manhattan, 1949, p.11). Notably, the diplomatic and political power of Vatican can be understood through tracing its history and the history of the Vatican City. Origin of the Vatican City: Vatican City was formed on February 11, 1929 following the signing of the Treaty of Conciliation by Benito Mussolini and the cardinal Pietro Gasparri, the State Secretary of Pius XI. While the signing of the Lateran Pacts between Italy and the Holy See paved way for the formation of this city, the pacts were ratified on June 7, 1929 ( Vatican City in the Past , n.d.). Since then, the nature of the Vatican City as a sovereign State that is different from the Holy See is widely recognized under ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Education System And The American Educational System The culture in and surrounding Uganda has fascinated me for a year or two now. I went to Kabale Uganda for a mission trip during my spring break of senior year. I was able to teach the students there for two weeks with my team and fell in love with it instantly. That trip spurred my desire to teach in less fortunate countries once I finish college. Once of the most significant differences between the Ugandan educational system and the American educational system that I saw was that access to education was so limited in Uganda. In 1997 Uganda initiated what they called Universal Primary Education (UPE), which aims to decrease poverty by making primary (elementary) school free, there by more accessible to it s students. (Bategeka and Okurut, 2006). The problem with UPE is that the government decides what schools will be part of the UPE program. Which means, the more remote areas may not have a school that is supported by UPE in walking distance. There is no other form of transportation for these students, it is highly uncommon for a family to own a car, and if they re extremely fortunate they may own a bicycle. This forces the students to go to a boarding school (Outreach Uganda, 2009). The boarding fees are around $2.00 in U.S. currency a semester. At first appeared to be very manageable to me until I was told while in Uganda that $2.00 in American currency converted to the Ugandan currency was roughly 2700 shillings That is more than my college tuition that theses families ... • 12. Baroque Art And Art The Rococo era was an imaginatively experimental and colorful period of time in France in which highly ornamented fashion and décor were at the forefront of fashion. The Rococo movement was already vaguely invented during the Late Baroque era in Italy, but after gaining some headway, it was then pushed by King Louis XV of France who was very interested in showcasing luxury, wealth, and good taste of that time through art and fashion. By the mid 1700 s, the majority of France was sick of the dull, looming, and dark aesthetic of the Baroque era. Once the Rococo era came about, home décor and fashion consisted of much more brightly decorated, overwhelming colors and opulent designs and textures. The concept of the Rococo was that more is better in terms of garments and fabrics, furniture, and other leisurely activities and decor. Just as the Siamese delegation had a lasting effect on the court of Louis XIV, so did the visit of an ambassadorial retinue led by Mehmed Efendi in 1720 1721, stamping the court with all kinds of turquerie, enmeshing itself more freely with the lachinage of the former century (remembering also that chinoiserie was very much alive and a central element to the germination of the rococo), (Fashion and Orientalism, page 63). Another factor that played into the Rococo was the fact that women had a bit more authority in the sense that they were allowed to hold positions of power. This is why Madame de Pompadour was incredibly well known as she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many scientists might find physical and chemical properties to figure it out. The scientists might look for, odor change, temperature change, fizzing, and bubbling for chemical properties. They also inspect the mixtures for physical properties before a chemical reaction occurs, including shape, size, color, texture, and smell. The Eighth grade thinks that the mystery mixture is C6H8O7(Citric Acid) and NaHCO3(Baking Soda). The class believes that it is C6H8O7 and NaHCO3 because of their physical and chemical properties. One of the differences between the mystery mixture and the mixture of MgSO4, C6H8O7, and NaHCO3 is during the chemical reaction. During the reaction of the mystery mixture the bubbles and only about one centimeter high. During the reaction of MgSO4, C6H8O7, and NaHCO3, the bubbles were approximately one inch tall. Another difference during the chemical reaction was the time that the two mixtures fizzed. The mystery mixture fizzed for about 3 minutes and 14 seconds. The combination of MgSO4, C6H8O7, and NaHCO3 fizzed for approximately 5 minutes and 47 seconds. Thirdly, the eighth grade scientists decided to eliminate MgSO4, C6H8O7, and NaHCO3 as a possibility to be the mystery mixture because during the reaction the mystery mixture s temperature was 16.5oC at the end of the reaction. While the combination of MgSO4, C6H8O7, and NaHCO3 ended up at 17.6oC. Finally, the scientist knew that they could rule out the mixture of MgSO4, C6H8O7, and NaHCO3 is because they noticed that the chunks in the mystery mixture were not shiny, but very dull, and the lumps in the mix of MgSO4, C6H8O7, and NaHCO3 ... This growth of focus on the upper class and subsequently the lack of focus on the poor lower class were brought to the attention of author Charles Dickens, and he, one of many times, chronicles the ideals of social classes in his acclaimed 1860 1861 work entitled Great Expectations. Biographical Interpretation Essay Many people view poems and other pieces of writing in different ways, there is no wrong or right way to interpret a work of someone, it merely your point of view; your opinions. In Sylvia Plath s poem Daddy , many could say that it was a about a hard relationship she had with her father, but how do we know? It could be about her father, husband, strong authority figure, or even God. But, as I read Daddy I got the strong sense that it was mostly about her father. The poem suggests that she had either an unhealthy relationship with him or she was angry with him for leaving her. In the poem, Plath says I have always been scared of you (41); I view this as she may not have had the best relationship with him. Maybe he was abusive or mean. ... In the poem, when Plath writes And then I knew what to do. / I made a model of you, / A man in black with a Meinkampf look. (63 65). It suggests that she possibly actually went to her father s grave and maybe she tried to dig up her father s bones to prove to her that he was really dead. Or, possibly these lines mean that she married someone who was a lot like him. She married someone who she could look at every day and who reminds her of her father. But, if this poem is about her sad relationship with him, why would she want to be reminded of him every day? This only makes me come to the conclusion that she did not have a horrible relationship with him, she was just angry with him for leaving her, for dying. As you can tell there can be many different interpretations for Sylvia Plath s poem Daddy . I believe that this poem is about Sylvia, who is angry with her father for dying and leaving her behind, who wants to express her feelings towards this in a poem. She writes deep, dark, meaningful, thoughts on her emotions and her actions to get back to him. I think that this poem is very unique in the way that she describes her life in the poem; she goes from when he died to when she was thirty, and along the way uses many analogies to describe her feelings. There are many industrial operations that cause contamination in ground water, due to the large quantities of chemicals used. Chlorinated hydrocarbons, which are used in cleaning products and solutions containing chromium, which are used in metal plating, lead to the groundwater contamination. These industrial wastes are dumped in storage tanks and they leak, thus causing contamination. Essay on Two Methods of Defending the Trinity Two Methods of Defending the Trinity Christians believe in one God, yet the apparent contradictory nature of the Trinity is such that it has caused many to doubt whether Christianity is indeed monotheistic. This has consequently caused Christians to defend their monotheism in relation to the Trinity. In the two such defenses that are studied in this essay, we find that Christians have explained the nature of Trinity with varying degrees of effectiveness and success. Timothy the Patriarch defends the Trinity before the Caliph Madhi with few compelling arguments, and Gregory of Nyssa explains it in a more abstract and therefore more effective way. Each however defends the Trinity according to his understanding of it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Timothy offers several apt analogies comparing the Trinity to earthly things, yet he fails to offer a compelling argument to refute the Caliph s simple yet powerful statement: If He is one, He is not three; and if He is three he is not one; what is this contradiction? (69). The most obvious of Timothy s logical errors is that he assumes (naturally) that the Son of the Trinity is in fact the Christ or Messiah of the Hebrew Scripture. He therefore refers to Hebrew Scripture to show that the Son is equal and not subservient to the Father: God, therefore, called Christ a Lord through the prophet David, and since no true lord is a servant, it follows that Christ is not a servant (82). The flaw in this logic, or at least the reason for its failure to convince the Caliph, lies in the fact that the Caliph cannot believe that Jesus is the Christ. The logic is also flawed from a modern point of view, for there the writers of the Hebrew Scripture knew neither Jesus nor the concept of the Trinity. It would therefore be anachronistic to use such references or to claim for example that the We of the creation story in Genesis refers to the Christian Trinity. Reflection Paper In English In my initial submission for Lesson 1, I recall being amused by the statement in the introduction of Navigating English Grammar that humans have always been fascinated by language. Then, and now, this still seems like an understatement to me. Language is an incredible facet to me and humans of all ages. To consider that an infant can communicate with few words and more gestures and then continue to develop the use of language as the number of words increase proves to be such an interesting phenomenon which has an influence on a human s existence. This influence permeates throughout language in formal or informal use. In that same lesson, I recall the childhood influences upon my language development. Being a young Southern woman, a distinct dialect permeated my childhood environments; from home, school, and small community, the slow, slang filled conversations enlightened me in the ways of people around me. This information partnered with the Grammar Quest proved that my own method of verb usage perplexed me. The instruction received in my local elementary and middle school demonstrated an error in my grandfather s way of speaking; therefore, my way of speaking did not follow prescriptive rules, and additional instruction was deemed necessary. • 33. Gay Marriage Should Be Banned Israel McIntosh Professor Endara 5/6/15 Phil 5 Gay Marriage Should be Banned 1. Introduction Gay marriage has been in hot debate for a while now. What once was shunned in almost every culture and society is now creeping into our laws and customs as normal and even acceptable due to the increase of radicals found in Anglo Saxon societies such as the US and UK. Fueled by the recent revolutions of women and interracial groups, homosexuals (a group less than 1 percent of the world s population), have finally taken a stand. Marriage has been a union of opposite sexes for nearly 5000 years and now has come into such scrutiny that it has taken on the attention of the Supreme Court. On April 28th, 2015, the Supreme Court began the case of Obergefell v. Hodge, the dispute which would settle the legalization of gay marriage in the entire US. From such a case, the question arises: Should gay marriage be legalized in the United States? After analyzing the points on both sides of the feud, I came to the clear conclusion that the answer was no, gay marriage should become and continue to be illegal in the United States. 2. Why Should we Ban Gay Marriage? II.A. Marriage was originally intended as the union of two people of opposite gender in order to create a procreation flesh. The problem with this is that a gay marriage, or union of two males or two females, would produce an entirely sterile couple who could not produce children with each other. Although seemingly harmless, this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Education During The 20th Century During the 20th century, education in Tibetan society was not highly regarded due to the fact that Tibetans did not view education as useful. Tibetans believed that their role in Tibetan society was already determined, and there were no means of social or economic advancement. However, Palden Gyatso, Tashi Tsering, and Phutsok, Tibetan males, challenge those notions by obtaining different types of education in distinctive ways. Palden Gyatso, Tashi Tsering, and Phutsok s actions allow other Tibetans to realize that education is not confined to a single type of education as education can range from religious education to an informal type of education obtained by various tutors, and to a formal education obtained in a school. Palden Gyatso, Tashi Tsering, and Phutsok not only share the need to obtain an education, but their attitude is similar. They knew that at times they needed to be assertive and fight against the opinion and challenges administrated by their authoritative figures, but they also knew at other times they were required to be submissive in order to further their education. In addition, they face identical authoritative figures: parental, religious, and educational figures, who challenge them. It is critical to note that Tashi and Palden s stories, in terms of their education, focuses on the time period before the Chinese invaded Tibet. On the other hand, Phutsok s story, in terms of his education, focuses on the time after the Chinese invade Tibet. Palden ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1995 the Commercial sale of this food had been started. Calgene marketed its first genetically modified food named Flavr Savr which was ripening tomatoes (Bruening and Lyons). Most of the modifications of genetic food have initially been focused on the highly demanded cash crops such as Corn, Canola, Soybean and Cotton Seed Oil. These have been designed and engineered for resistance to herbicides and better nutritional profiles. Genetically modified livestock have also been introduced but has not been introduced in the market. We would not have any idea that meat, vegetable or fruits, supposed to purchase by us, are genetically modified, every time we go to super markets. In order to make this situation worst most of the consumers do not pay special importance to the food they are eating, when they are actually consuming genetically modified food. As per the figures estimated by Institute for Responsible Technology (2007) in the United States 91% of corn, 79% of soybean and 89% of Canola are sold which are produced ... This detailed proposal attracted the attention of Stanford, as well as Collis Potter Huntington, Mark Hopkins, and Charles Crocker. Stanford then sent Judah to Washington to propose the idea to the Lincoln administration.
