My New Ideas During The Renaissance
During the Renaissance, my new ideas became popular and more people wanted to make their society
better. In order for all this to happen, people needed to spread the word about the new ideas. Three
factors that contributed to spreading the word of the Renaissance are trade, books and printing, and the
governments at the time. However, some factors helped contribute more, or they had a greater impact
on the people. The most powerful factor was books and printing, and the least helpful factor was the
government s. Books and printing were among the most influential of all the factors. When Johann
Gutenberg invented the movable printing press, printing became much easier and faster than ever
before. When people started using the printing

Ronald Reagan Ethos
President Reagan in his grief driven, yet inspiring speech Explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger
Address to the Nation, he expresses the nation s collective anguish in the wake of the accident. Reagan
s purpose is to praise the lost astronauts for their service and assure to NASA and the rest of America
that, even if these deaths happened, they should continue working towards space explorations for
future generations. He adopts a somber yet reflective tone in order to evoke a sense of a silver lining
in the minds of the American families across the nation. To do so, Ronald Reagan utilizes the three
rhetorical appeals: ethos, pathos, and logos.
At the start of his speech, Reagan chooses to apologize for the postponement of the annual State ...

He first commemorates the pioneers of space for their service, noting their courage and painstakingly
stating each of their names slowly and reverently. He is giving life to the astronauts, working to show
the audience that these are not just two words on a procter, but courageous trailblazers on a mission to
pursue their dreams of space exploration for America. Reagan is trying to establish their emotions to
bridge this gap from random stranger to fallen hero and draw much needed respect for them in the
wake of this tragedy, and solace for their loved ones. Reagan even addresses the schoolchildren
watching their teacher die upon launch and states that sometimes painful things like this happen (6).
Reagan knows that the children are going to be the future astronauts and shuttle engineers, so he is
essentially trying to reassure them that, though this is what can happen to pioneers, this is the only
way progress can be made. If he doesn t do this, people start to question the necessity for continuing in
this race for space and ultimately doubt the need to fund NASA. Reagan chooses to address these
concerns

Difference Between Grand Theory And Grand Theories
A theory is a statement that rationalizes the relationship between variables, within a set of
assumptions. It is a proposed justification for the complexities of the world around us. So a notion that
provides an answer to the question why is a theory. It could be connections between different
phenomena, why something occurs or does not occur, with a set of logical arguments.
There are generally two main kinds of theories. Grand theory and Empirical theory. A grand theory is
one that is unbounded by temporal or special boundaries. It can be applied to any population at any
time and it would still be proven correct. They are abstract in nature. Theories of Economics are good
examples of a grand theory. The law of demand, for instance is true ... Show more content on

It may not be applied to all the contexts throughout the globe or may not be applicable in different
time periods, but it would have empirical details.
To understand what a theory is, I think it would be better to have a clear concept of what it is not.
Often theorists confuse the following aspects of a research to a theory. We can say that all of the
following aid a theorist in developing a theory, but they themselves cannot rather should not be
considered theories.
Many authors have clarified the dissimilarity between a theory and what is mistaken for a theory.
Bacharach (1989) stated that data, typologies and metaphors are not theories. Whereas, Sutton and
Staw (1995) mentioned that references, variables and constructs, diagrams and figures, and hypotheses
are not theories in themselves
i. Data: is empirical evidence that reflects what has been observed by the theorist. It basically supports
a theory but itself is not a theory. That is because it does not provide any justification behind such
trends in the data or any predictions about the future. For example if data indicates that women with
higher IQ have prosperous marriages, this in itself is not a theory because it is just showing a trend,
not any logic behind

Iwo Jima And Okinawa Kiran Klubock
Iwo Jima and Okinawa Kiran Klubock Shukla The battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa were two of the
most important American operations in the Pacific Theatre against the Empire of Japan during World
War Two. The goal of the two operations was to secure strategically important islands close to Japan
to use for bombing campaigns. The battles for Iwo Jima(February March 1945) and Okinawa f(April
June 1945) killed hundreds of thousands of soldiers and civilians and helped to win the war for the
United States. In February of 1944, the U.S. launched Operation Detachment, an effort to seize control
of an important island close to Japan. Iwo Jima could provide a launching point for bombers flying to
the Japanese Home Islands and help to defeat the Japanese. Iwo Jima is an island in the Bonin chain,
situated about 575 miles from Japan. It s prominent feature is Mount Suribachi, a volcanic mountain
on the southern tip of the island. Iwo Jima did not have a civilian population but was well protected by
roughly 23,000 Japanese soldiers in caves, foxholes, and pillboxes (pillboxes were concrete boxes
with small holes for shooting enemies). Before the land invasion, Iwo Jima endured a heavy
bombardment by ships and planes, which, however, did very little to destroy the Japanese resistance.
On February 19th, at 8:30 in the morning, the invasion started. At least 90,000 marines stormed the
volcanic sands of the beachheads with huge casualties. Unable to protect themselves on the open

Strategies for Translating and Interpreting Cultural Words...
Strategies for translating and interpreting cultural words related to ecology and material culture
As you may know, translation and interpretation are a kind of activity which inevitably involves at
least two languages and two cultural traditions. As this statement implies, translators and interpreters
are permanently faced with the problem of how to treat the culture aspects implicit in a source text and
of finding the most appropriate technique of successfully conveying these aspects in the target
language. These problems may vary in scope depending on the cultural and linguistic gap between the
two (or more) languages concerned. It is possible said that cultural words is one of the problems

What is the original author trying to communicate in that particular context? Sometimes the author is
concerned with the form of the THING or EVENT, but sometimes the function is more important.
There will also be times when the meaning of the word itself is not as important as the effect which
the author is trying to create. The translator will want to find a way to express the important meaning
components of the word and phrase; that is, the ones which are in focus in the context. THING AND
EVENT can be looked at from the perspective of the form of the THING or EVENT, or from the
perspective of its function. Look at the examples and their translation versions.

Negative Effects Of Technology In Family Life
It is now possible to earn a college degree from home. Making it possible for anyone to attend a
college that could not make it to a campus in person. Most Universities and colleges offer degree
programs that can be earned online. Students can fit school into their schedules easier because course
material is available anywhere at any time (Irby Li, 2008). In the past, it was challenging for people,
especially older adults, to fit college into their busy schedules. People that had full time jobs and
families just did not have the time to fit college into their busy lives, even if they wanted to.
Technology has allowed people to work towards a college degree while working full time and caring
for their families. Some jobs offer incentives for their employees to return to college, which can help
them advance in their career; therefore earning more money. Older college students are finding this
method of college more attractive over the traditional campus classes, which is an incredible benefit
for people and their families. People are now able to keep in contact with people through social media
sites and text messaging. The negative impacts are often discussed how technology has interfered in
family life, but there are positive benefits to families, too. A recent study revealed that the majority of
families feel that technology has affected their relationships in positive ways (McDaniel Coyne,
2016). Couples are now able to communicate throughout their day while they are

order to determine the terms of the contract it is important to have regard to the terms of the offer only.
The only terms that could arise out of the previous negotiations are those referred to in the offer itself
or that the courts would imply as necessary to give the contract business efficacy 19. This is
particularly the case if the signed contract is seen as the basis of the agreement, which is likely. In this
case the parol evidence rule will generally preclude any evidence of intention inconsistent with the
signed document20. There is nothing in the offer letter or contract sent by K to A which imports any of
the previous negotiations. Thus once the offer is

I Am Proud At The United States Essay
When I came to the United States three years ago, I didn t know how to speak English at all. I started
learning this new language after only speaking Spanish for 16 years; it was certainly an intimidating
and daunting challenge. I thought it was going to be impossible for me to learn English in time to
attend a respectable university, since my surrounding peers were constantly discouraging me. Through
hard work and determination, I managed to learn how to fluently read and write English like a native
speaker in just a year and a half. I am blessed enough to say that I now attend one of the most
prestigious universities in the United States. Initially, I was ignorant to the potential that laid dormant
within me. Now, I understand that we, as people, limit ourselves by paying attention to limitations
rather than our ability to permeate and conquer them. Focusing on our limits hinders our progression
and prevents us from achieving our full potential. Society inculcates us with the idea that we are born
with a predetermined future, to which some of us who lack critical thinking skills become robotically
attached. We are raised with prearranged boundaries, consequently, keeping our minds away from
revolutionary ways of thinking. Instead of being encouraged to think outside of the box, we are
conditioned to remain inside that box. This is a violence that we ourselves perpetuate; we hurt
ourselves by underestimating our ability to transcend beyond these artificial boundaries

The Steps Of Humility And Pride, A Guide For People...
This paper was supposed to be about the my take on Bernard of Clairvaux s The Steps of Humility and
Pride, a guide for people seeking the truth in God. I say supposed because as I read Bernard s work, I
found something entirely different from what I was expecting. What I expected was a man of holy
nature rambling on about how we should excuse ourselves from pride, as it stains the true potential of
the human soul. At that point, it would almost seem inappropriate to berate the views he has over pride
and humility, like yelling at somebody s grumpy grandfather. The lack of sport would ve dragged on
my being, leading me to crank out a uninteresting paper where I just disagree with this old cleric. And
I know, that is definitely a presumptuous route to take mentally, the irony of writing about pride and
humility was not beyond me at this realization. Instead, what I happened to find was a short, honest
guide about how to find truth in our lives. Before I continue with this pleasant discovery, some
background history needs to be established. Bernard of Clairvaux was a devout christian who believe
in the notion of the Holy Trinity, as well as the rest of the religion that comes with it. He was born
from a noble family, and was well educated. I think this is what pleased me so much, that a rich man
like Bernard could live a lavished life then turn towards humility. It genuinely bettered my opinion of
him. I, on the other hand, am not a firm believer in the Christian religion.

Gambaro achieves the alienation of the audience through their ability to grasp agency in the setting of
the theatre. In scene thirteen, four men enter a adjacent room and close the door. An actor pretending
to be part of audience opens door. Soon after doing so, he is hit over the head, falling down
unconscious. The guide leaning over him says, Why did he butt in? I m the guide here! ... If he was
part of the audience, why did he make like an actor? (111). The audience doesn t know that the person

In Brecht s essay The Modern Theatre is the Epic Theatre, he explains how once out of the cloakroom
[the audience] take their seats with the bearing of kings (39). The audience expects to have the
production cater to them, and as a paying audience they expect nothing less. Consequently, the
production puts the audience out of their comfort zone, because the performance on longer caters to
their aesthetic needs. The audience feels even more out of sorts because the experience is not
artistically executed to appeal to them. The guide plays off of the fear of the middle class audience,
specifically their fear of standing out. He essentially says, see what happens when you don t follow the
leaders and those who have agency. The guide presents the idea of them being alienated from the rest
of the spectators if they were to interject in the violence that was happening in each of the rooms. He
raises the question of who is in control and how much authority the audience actually has over the
production and the people in the

Essay on Bossa Nova, the Misunderstood
Brett Dorman
World Music
Prof. Searles
Bossa Nova: The Misunderstood
Tall and tan and young and lovely,
The girl from Ipanena goes walking and,
When she passes each one she passes goes, ‘Ahh.
These are the first lyrics of, probably, one of the most famous bossa nova songs sung by Frank Sinatra.
The melody of the song is as smooth as the singer, the rhythm is laid back, and the lyrics are simple.
Unfortunately, Frank Sinatra s portrayal of this Bossa Nova classic is detrimental to the music s
image. The Bossa Nova should not just be considered lounge music, for it is much more than that. The

The bataria has three primary instruments, the surdoo, agogo, and tambourine. The surdo is a
membranophone that acts as a bass drum and normally comes in three different sizes that vary in
pitch. These instruments are the heart of the entire ensemble. The tambourine is also a
membranophone that is normally played with one stick while the hand that holds the drum is used to
mute which helps accentuate some beats and muffle others. The agogo acts as the melodic instrument
even though there are only two notes that can be played. The agogo is an idiophone that resembles two
different sized cow bells attached together.
Samba is normally played at a fast tempo and contains many overlapping complicated rhythms
accentuate the first note while playing in duple meter. Also, a lot of the time you will hear an emphasis
on threes while playing in duple (you will either hear this through accents or triplets). When listening,
we can hear the syncopation between the different rhythms due to the polyrhythm of the music. One
might ask how samba then relates to the Bossa Nova if the music itself is fast, loud, and has an
emphasis on percussion and not so much melody or lyrics. The structure of the Bossa Nova is pretty
much identical to that of samba except much more laid back; it is samba broken down to its bare
essentials (The Brazilian Sound, 55). However, the structure is not the only aspect of samba that
relates to the bossa nova, the melody is similar as well. The bossa nova

Working in partnership is essential to the development of children and young people in the early years

Comedy And Social Ideas Of Norman Lear
Norman Lear was picked as a nominee for the prestigious Kennedy Center Award. Instead of
accepting the award, Lear decided to boycott the Kennedy Center ceremony in December at the White
House to protest Donald Trump presidency. Norman Lear has embodied the role as an agent of change
because throughout his life, he has been breaking societal norms and discussing issues in society that
people are afraid to talk about. Specifically, in 1971, a groundbreaking American television sitcom
broke through societal boundaries and transformed the way that the American audience viewed
television. Engulfed by the Vietnam War, Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, fight for
women s right, and the Watergate scandal, Norman Lear persevered through stereotypes and
entertainment norms with his show All in the Family. This show approached its audience in a very
blunt and crude manner; it made conflict the center of its comedy. It dealt with contemporary cultural
issues in a relatable way, which allowed blue collar workers to learn about their current everyday
issues and concerns. Therefore, from declining his Kennedy Center Award because of his dislike for
the President to breaking the taboos of television in the 1970s, Norman Lear has remained a visible
changemaker in our society.
Lear fused comedy and serious social issues together. All in the Family became the center of national
debate between comedy and social issues. Norman Lear helped to introduce social realism, a

Obesity Is An Obesity Epidemic Exists
To understand whether or not an obesity epidemic exists, one has to define obesity and determine what
suggests an epidemic. According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) (2015), obesity means
having too much body fat which can occur when one has more caloric intake than one uses, which is
different for each person. In comparison, overweight means weighing too much and may result from
bone, fat, muscle and body water (NIH, 2015). In both obesity and overweight, an individual s weight
is considered greater than what may be considered healthy in relation to their height (NIH, 2015).
Contributing factors that may affect weight are eating high fat goods, overeating, genetics, or not
being physically active (Akabas, Lederman, Moore, 2012; NIH, 2015). To determine what is
considered a healthy weight, a body mass index (BMI) is used to measure an individual s height and
weight and estimates body fat as a determinant of potential risks for diseases (Akabas, Lederman,
Moore, 2012; Morrill Chinn, 2004). BMI less than 18.5 is recognized as underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 is
within normal weight and is categorized as a healthy weight, 25 to 29.9 is overweight, 30 to 34.9 is
mild obesity, 35 to 39.9 is moderate obesity, and 40 and over is severe obesity (Akabas, Lederman,
Moore, 2012; Jones, 2006; NIH, 2015; Reville, 2006). Currently, one in three adults in the United
States are obese, increasing potential for health risks such as heart disease, diabetes high blood

Gender Pay Gap
Gender Pay Gap The economic issue with the gender pay gap has been a concern for quite some time.
Many people say that men are paid more money, or have higher salaries than women; however, there
are also people who believe otherwise. Some argue that maternity leave or education level is a reason
why women seem to be paid less than men, and others argue that there is a bigger issue such as race
and age. The following information will address both viewpoints on the gender pay gap and its issues
within the economy, as well as history of women in the workforce.
History In Colonial America, women stayed at home and took care of the household, took care of the
children, made clothes, and made sure that there was food on the table while the men were at war.
During this time, a group was formed called The Daughters of Liberty. These women were successful
in proving that women can be beneficial to the new country in terms of politics and working. They
also wanted to steer away from the British lifestyle while men wanted to keep their traditions. They
refused to buy clothes, tea, or any other items that came from England, no matter what it was. They
formed spinning societies to make their own clothing, as well as clothing for their male family
members. This made America less dependent on British textiles, (Answers.) These Colonial American
women wanted to prove that they were committed to the cause of liberty and industry, (Answers.)

Death Of A Salesman Foil Analysis
A foil is the opposite person of the character. The two foils are charley and Willy. Charley is the foil
character because he is a nicer person than Willy. Willy controls his son s life and he wants him to be
like him. Charlie and Willy have different view of success. Willy s view of success is to be a jock,
handsome, loved, and a salesman. Charlie s view of success is being happy and smart. The American
Dream is that everyone has there own dream. But, the dreams always don t turn out the way you want
it to be.
In Death of A Salesman, Willy is very rude and not nice to people. His foil, Charley is nice and helpful

Cooper V. Austin Essay example
Parties:
* Phillip J. Cooper, Plaintiff Appellant, Administrator * Charles Austin, Defendant Appellant * Alois
B. Greer, Proponent of the codicil
Facts:
* This is a will contest case involving a codicil to the Last Will and Testament of Wheelock A. Bisson,
M.D., deceased. * Dr. Bisson s will, which is not contested, was executed June 18, 1982.
Prior Proceedings: * Dr. Bisson died in 1985, and shortly thereafter Greer filed a petition in probate
court to admit the June 18, 1982, will and two codicils thereto dated August 20, 1984, and August 6,
1985, respectively, to probate as and for the Last Will and Testament of Wheelock ... Show more

Greer, had not met her burden of proof pursuant to T.C.A. § 32 1 104, regarding the manner in which a
will must be executed. * The trial court granted Austin s motion and directed a verdict on the grounds
that Ms. Greer had not proved the proper execution of the codicil. * Accordingly, judgment was
entered declaring that the last will and testament of Wheelock A. Bisson dated June 18, 1982, be
admitted to probate without any codicils.
Issue:
1. The first issue is whether the trial court erred in denying Greer s motion for summary judgment on
the grounds that Mr. Austin s will contest was barred by T.C.A. § 32 4 108 (Supp. 1991). 2. The
second issue for review is whether the trial court erred in directing a verdict for the contestant Austin
by refusing to allow the 1984 codicil to be submitted to the jury.
Holding:
The rule for determining a motion for directed verdict requires the trial judge and the reviewing court
on appeal to look to all of the evidence, taking the strongest legitimate view of it in favor of the
opponent of the motion and allowing all reasonable inferences from it in his favor. The court must
discard all countervailing evidence, and if there is then any dispute as to any material determinative
evidence or any doubt as to the conclusion to be drawn from the whole evidence, the motion must be
denied. Tennessee Farmers Mut.

The Breakdown of Ithaka
In the lands of Pylos and Sparta, the kingdoms are prospering and in the favor of the gods. However,
in Ithaka, the kingdom is falling to pieces. Why are the kingdoms so different in their success? Homer
puts these three kingdoms side by side in The Odyssey, making it easy to find similarities and
differences between the three. Pylos and Sparta, ruled by Nestor and Menelaos, could not be more
successful. Ithaka, currently has no king in its throne and chaos is resulting from the battle for the
coveted seat. Compared to the kingdoms of Nestor and Menelaos, Ithaka is breaking down from the
loss of order and their leader, Odysseus.
Sparta and Pylos are successful, thriving kingdoms, so what makes Ithaka break down? Menelaos has
a mansion that is the way the court of Zeus must be (4.72). He has no end of riches, and Sparta is
prospering right along with him. Menelaos rules with compassion and this makes him a great ruler. In
Pylos, Nestor sacrifices an impressive heifer for Athena; his goldsmith gloved each horn in a pure foil
beaten out of the gold that Nestor gave him (3.437 438). This costly sacrifice is no expense, because
Pylos is a wealthy country. Also, what is added to the success of Pylos, is the great rule of Nestor. He
is a wise and generous soul, who strides to keep his kingdom under the favor of the gods. Athena truly
favors Nestor in which she wishes honor to Nestor and his sons (3.58). There is no mortal half so wise
(1.64) as Odysseus, the ruler of

Charter Schools Vs. Public Schools
At the foundation of the American public school system is the belief that every child deserves a
quality education. To this end, the public school system in America has undergone many reforms. One
of which has been charter schools. Charter schools are independent public schools of choice working
under the auspices of a charter and not governed by the board of education. The charter can be written
by parents, teachers, school administrators, community leaders, educational businesses, etc. It
determines the school s guiding principles, management and accountability systems. The state
approves the charter and provides funding for the school. Families choose these schools for their
children. ( Resistance Hinders Success, 2004) Charter schools differ from traditional public schools on
three basic principles: accountability, choice and autonomy. Charter schools are held accountable for
their ability to educate students, management of finances and handle operations. If they do not meet
the guidelines established by the charter they are closed. They give families a choice as to what school
their children will attend. Finally, charter schools have more autonomy than traditional public schools.
They are able to make their own decisions regarding curriculum and school governance and can focus
on academic achievement instead of bureaucracy. ( Resistance Hinders Success, 2004) Ray Budde
first introduced the idea of charter schools in the United States in 1974.

South African Segregation And Isolation In South Africa
From 1948 to 1991 South Africa was going through a humanitarian crisis similar to what was
occurring in America, segregation. However, there was one key difference in South Africa, the black
South Africans were being controlled by a white South African minority. In America, non colored
citizens didn t have to do much to segregate life, but in South Africa, the white South Africans needed
to feel like they were in control. After the National party was elected in 1948, the government (white
south Africans) started to heavily segregate South Africa. The result of the heavy segregation and hard
laws resulted in a tremendous feeling of exile. Isolation was an extensive part of the apartheid years in
South Africa as shown by the cruel prison sentences,

This Political Study Will Define The Reemergence Of...
This political study will define the reemergence of nationalism due to the failed economic policies of
globalization in the Brexit EU Vote. The Brexit Vote defines the lack of economic security promised
by the European Union, which had dominated much of Britain s global objectives in the world
economy. However, the problematic banking issues of the European Central bank (ECB) and the
bankruptcy of certain nation states, such as Ireland, Greece, and Portugal, have inspired a new
nationalist movement in England to leave the EU. The Brexit Vote, held on June 23rd, 2016, defined a
powerful collective process in which 51.9% of the votes decided to lave the EU. This decision was
primarily based on reclaiming British nationalism to regain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These political trends reveal the underlying trend in nationalism as part of the growing problem of
economic inequality, which was devastating the British economy for the greater masses of working
people. The lack of resolution for the economic recession brought about a public reaction to policies
related to nationalistic objectives, which were dominated by populist sentiment: At a time when so
many Europeans are faced with unemployment, uncertainty and growing inequality (200). Certainly,
the vote for Brexit defines the underlying re reemergence of nationalism as a political option in the
opposition of failed EU economic policies.
The Brexit Vote also defined a complex new set of nationalist principles, which were based on the
turning back the clock of racial identity in the pre EU global order. For instance, the re emergence of
nationalism was also being defined by a the Anglo Saxon purity of cultural and racial traditions, which
undermined the tensions behind the Brexit Vote. In this manner, the perception of job losses in
England also exacerbated racial tensions in relation to the immigration crisis across Europe. Many
British citizens felt that a lack of regulatory process in EU immigration policy threatened their job
security due to the lower wages being paid for immigrant worker:
But others suggest it was really a cultural divide that was revealed, rather than an economic one.

Unique Aspects of Industrial Market Segmentation
What are the Unique Aspects of Business Market Segmentation?
A business firm must define the market in which it wishes to operate.
In defining the market, business market managers choose descriptors (bases) that characterize and
delimit a market, with the intent pinpointing groups of firms that are of greater interest to the supplier
firm.

But in business markets, because intermediate transactions are involved, a firm must first choose the
stage in the value adding chain before selecting the horizontal market segments.
Consider the value adding chain schematically shown in the previous diagram.
An organization would have to decide whether to sell propylene, isopropanol, isopropyl acetate
(chemical intermediates), and/or plastics.
The stage in the value adding chain where it decides to sell its output represents its choice of output
markets.
Suppose the organization chooses to sell isopropanal.
It must now decide whether to sell to producers of acetone, chemical intermediates, coatings,
agricultural and biological chemicals.
The latter decision reflects

Introduction
An enzyme
Hypothesis
The null hypothesis will be that the test tubes with an increase in temperature, pH values, enzyme
concentrations, and substrate concentration will have a very small color change or no color change at
all. The alternate hypothesis is that the test tubes containing an increase in temperature, pH values,
enzyme concentrations, and substrate concentration will all have an intense color change; the more the
change, the more intense the color change will be.
Material and Methods
The use of multiple test tubes and Parafilm was used for each experiment. Catechol, potato juice, pH 7
phosphate buffer, and stock potato extract 1:1 will be used to conduct the following experiments:
temperature effect on enzyme activity, the effect of pH on enzyme action, the effect of enzyme
concentration, and the effect of substrate concentration on enzyme activity. For the temperature effect
on enzyme activity, three test tube were filled with three ml of pH 7 phosphate buffer and each test
tube was labels 1.5 degrees Celsius, 20 °C, and 60 °C. The first test tube was placed in an ice water
bath, the second test tube was left at room temperature, and the third test tube was placed in
approximately 60°C of warm water. After filling the test tubes with three ml of the

My High School Football Career
It all started freshman year when I was playing football. It was the worst day of my sports career that I
have ever experienced in my life. It was the first play in my high school football career and it was a
punt. I ran down the field and made the tackle. As I was making the tackle someone hit my elbow and
they broke it. I went to the hospital and they put me in a cast for four weeks. After the four weeks
were over the doctor took my cast off and said everything was fine. The rest of the year it felt good.

  • 2. My New Ideas During The Renaissance During the Renaissance, my new ideas became popular and more people wanted to make their society better. In order for all this to happen, people needed to spread the word about the new ideas. Three factors that contributed to spreading the word of the Renaissance are trade, books and printing, and the governments at the time. However, some factors helped contribute more, or they had a greater impact on the people. The most powerful factor was books and printing, and the least helpful factor was the government s. Books and printing were among the most influential of all the factors. When Johann Gutenberg invented the movable printing press, printing became much easier and faster than ever before. When people started using the printing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ronald Reagan Ethos President Reagan in his grief driven, yet inspiring speech Explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger Address to the Nation, he expresses the nation s collective anguish in the wake of the accident. Reagan s purpose is to praise the lost astronauts for their service and assure to NASA and the rest of America that, even if these deaths happened, they should continue working towards space explorations for future generations. He adopts a somber yet reflective tone in order to evoke a sense of a silver lining in the minds of the American families across the nation. To do so, Ronald Reagan utilizes the three rhetorical appeals: ethos, pathos, and logos. At the start of his speech, Reagan chooses to apologize for the postponement of the annual State ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He first commemorates the pioneers of space for their service, noting their courage and painstakingly stating each of their names slowly and reverently. He is giving life to the astronauts, working to show the audience that these are not just two words on a procter, but courageous trailblazers on a mission to pursue their dreams of space exploration for America. Reagan is trying to establish their emotions to bridge this gap from random stranger to fallen hero and draw much needed respect for them in the wake of this tragedy, and solace for their loved ones. Reagan even addresses the schoolchildren watching their teacher die upon launch and states that sometimes painful things like this happen (6). Reagan knows that the children are going to be the future astronauts and shuttle engineers, so he is essentially trying to reassure them that, though this is what can happen to pioneers, this is the only way progress can be made. If he doesn t do this, people start to question the necessity for continuing in this race for space and ultimately doubt the need to fund NASA. Reagan chooses to address these concerns ... • 6. Difference Between Grand Theory And Grand Theories A theory is a statement that rationalizes the relationship between variables, within a set of assumptions. It is a proposed justification for the complexities of the world around us. So a notion that provides an answer to the question why is a theory. It could be connections between different phenomena, why something occurs or does not occur, with a set of logical arguments. There are generally two main kinds of theories. Grand theory and Empirical theory. A grand theory is one that is unbounded by temporal or special boundaries. It can be applied to any population at any time and it would still be proven correct. They are abstract in nature. Theories of Economics are good examples of a grand theory. The law of demand, for instance is true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It may not be applied to all the contexts throughout the globe or may not be applicable in different time periods, but it would have empirical details. To understand what a theory is, I think it would be better to have a clear concept of what it is not. Often theorists confuse the following aspects of a research to a theory. We can say that all of the following aid a theorist in developing a theory, but they themselves cannot rather should not be considered theories. Many authors have clarified the dissimilarity between a theory and what is mistaken for a theory. Bacharach (1989) stated that data, typologies and metaphors are not theories. Whereas, Sutton and Staw (1995) mentioned that references, variables and constructs, diagrams and figures, and hypotheses are not theories in themselves i. Data: is empirical evidence that reflects what has been observed by the theorist. It basically supports a theory but itself is not a theory. That is because it does not provide any justification behind such trends in the data or any predictions about the future. For example if data indicates that women with higher IQ have prosperous marriages, this in itself is not a theory because it is just showing a trend, not any logic behind ... • 7. Iwo Jima And Okinawa Kiran Klubock Iwo Jima and Okinawa Kiran Klubock Shukla The battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa were two of the most important American operations in the Pacific Theatre against the Empire of Japan during World War Two. The goal of the two operations was to secure strategically important islands close to Japan to use for bombing campaigns. The battles for Iwo Jima(February March 1945) and Okinawa f(April June 1945) killed hundreds of thousands of soldiers and civilians and helped to win the war for the United States. In February of 1944, the U.S. launched Operation Detachment, an effort to seize control of an important island close to Japan. Iwo Jima could provide a launching point for bombers flying to the Japanese Home Islands and help to defeat the Japanese. Iwo Jima is an island in the Bonin chain, situated about 575 miles from Japan. It s prominent feature is Mount Suribachi, a volcanic mountain on the southern tip of the island. Iwo Jima did not have a civilian population but was well protected by roughly 23,000 Japanese soldiers in caves, foxholes, and pillboxes (pillboxes were concrete boxes with small holes for shooting enemies). Before the land invasion, Iwo Jima endured a heavy bombardment by ships and planes, which, however, did very little to destroy the Japanese resistance. On February 19th, at 8:30 in the morning, the invasion started. At least 90,000 marines stormed the volcanic sands of the beachheads with huge casualties. Unable to protect themselves on the open ... Strategies for translating and interpreting cultural words related to ecology and material culture As you may know, translation and interpretation are a kind of activity which inevitably involves at least two languages and two cultural traditions. As this statement implies, translators and interpreters are permanently faced with the problem of how to treat the culture aspects implicit in a source text and of finding the most appropriate technique of successfully conveying these aspects in the target language. These problems may vary in scope depending on the cultural and linguistic gap between the two (or more) languages concerned. • 9. Negative Effects Of Technology In Family Life It is now possible to earn a college degree from home. Making it possible for anyone to attend a college that could not make it to a campus in person. Most Universities and colleges offer degree programs that can be earned online. Students can fit school into their schedules easier because course material is available anywhere at any time (Irby Li, 2008). In the past, it was challenging for people, especially older adults, to fit college into their busy schedules. People that had full time jobs and families just did not have the time to fit college into their busy lives, even if they wanted to. Technology has allowed people to work towards a college degree while working full time and caring for their families. Some jobs offer incentives for their employees to return to college, which can help them advance in their career; therefore earning more money. Older college students are finding this method of college more attractive over the traditional campus classes, which is an incredible benefit for people and their families. People are now able to keep in contact with people through social media sites and text messaging. The negative impacts are often discussed how technology has interfered in family life, but there are positive benefits to families, too. The only terms that could arise out of the previous negotiations are those referred to in the offer itself or that the courts would imply as necessary to give the contract business efficacy 19. • 11. I Am Proud At The United States Essay When I came to the United States three years ago, I didn t know how to speak English at all. I started learning this new language after only speaking Spanish for 16 years; it was certainly an intimidating and daunting challenge. I thought it was going to be impossible for me to learn English in time to attend a respectable university, since my surrounding peers were constantly discouraging me. Through hard work and determination, I managed to learn how to fluently read and write English like a native speaker in just a year and a half. I am blessed enough to say that I now attend one of the most prestigious universities in the United States. Initially, I was ignorant to the potential that laid dormant within me. Now, I understand that we, as people, limit ourselves by paying attention to limitations rather than our ability to permeate and conquer them. Focusing on our limits hinders our progression and prevents us from achieving our full potential. Society inculcates us with the idea that we are born with a predetermined future, to which some of us who lack critical thinking skills become robotically attached. We are raised with prearranged boundaries, consequently, keeping our minds away from revolutionary ways of thinking. Instead of being encouraged to think outside of the box, we are conditioned to remain inside that box. This is a violence that we ourselves perpetuate; we hurt ourselves by underestimating our ability to transcend beyond these artificial boundaries ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Steps Of Humility And Pride, A Guide For People... This paper was supposed to be about the my take on Bernard of Clairvaux s The Steps of Humility and Pride, a guide for people seeking the truth in God. I say supposed because as I read Bernard s work, I found something entirely different from what I was expecting. What I expected was a man of holy nature rambling on about how we should excuse ourselves from pride, as it stains the true potential of the human soul. At that point, it would almost seem inappropriate to berate the views he has over pride and humility, like yelling at somebody s grumpy grandfather. The lack of sport would ve dragged on my being, leading me to crank out a uninteresting paper where I just disagree with this old cleric. And I know, that is definitely a presumptuous route to take mentally, the irony of writing about pride and humility was not beyond me at this realization. Instead, what I happened to find was a short, honest guide about how to find truth in our lives. Before I continue with this pleasant discovery, some background history needs to be established. Bernard of Clairvaux was a devout christian who believe in the notion of the Holy Trinity, as well as the rest of the religion that comes with it. He was born from a noble family, and was well educated. I think this is what pleased me so much, that a rich man like Bernard could live a lavished life then turn towards humility. It genuinely bettered my opinion of him. I, on the other hand, am not a firm believer in the Christian religion. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The guide leaning over him says, Why did he butt in? I m the guide here! ... If he was part of the audience, why did he make like an actor? (111). In Brecht s essay The Modern Theatre is the Epic Theatre, he explains how once out of the cloakroom [the audience] take their seats with the bearing of kings (39). The audience expects to have the production cater to them, and as a paying audience they expect nothing less. Consequently, the production puts the audience out of their comfort zone, because the performance on longer caters to their aesthetic needs. The audience feels even more out of sorts because the experience is not artistically executed to appeal to them. The guide plays off of the fear of the middle class audience, specifically their fear of standing out. He essentially says, see what happens when you don t follow the leaders and those who have agency. These are the first lyrics of, probably, one of the most famous bossa nova songs sung by Frank Sinatra. The melody of the song is as smooth as the singer, the rhythm is laid back, and the lyrics are simple. Unfortunately, Frank Sinatra s portrayal of this Bossa Nova classic is detrimental to the music s image. The Bossa Nova should not just be considered lounge music, for it is much more than that. The bataria has three primary instruments, the surdoo, agogo, and tambourine. The surdo is a membranophone that acts as a bass drum and normally comes in three different sizes that vary in pitch. These instruments are the heart of the entire ensemble. The tambourine is also a membranophone that is normally played with one stick while the hand that holds the drum is used to mute which helps accentuate some beats and muffle others. The agogo acts as the melodic instrument even though there are only two notes that can be played. The agogo is an idiophone that resembles two different sized cow bells attached together. Samba is normally played at a fast tempo and contains many overlapping complicated rhythms accentuate the first note while playing in duple meter. Also, a lot of the time you will hear an emphasis on threes while playing in duple (you will either hear this through accents or triplets). When listening, we can hear the syncopation between the different rhythms due to the polyrhythm of the music. One might ask how samba then relates to the Bossa Nova if the music itself is fast, loud, and has an emphasis on percussion and not so much melody or lyrics. The structure of the Bossa Nova is pretty much identical to that of samba except much more laid back; it is samba broken down to its bare essentials (The Brazilian Sound, 55). However, the structure is not the only aspect of samba that relates to the bossa nova, the melody is similar as well. The bossa nova ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Comedy And Social Ideas Of Norman Lear Norman Lear was picked as a nominee for the prestigious Kennedy Center Award. Instead of accepting the award, Lear decided to boycott the Kennedy Center ceremony in December at the White House to protest Donald Trump presidency. Norman Lear has embodied the role as an agent of change because throughout his life, he has been breaking societal norms and discussing issues in society that people are afraid to talk about. Specifically, in 1971, a groundbreaking American television sitcom broke through societal boundaries and transformed the way that the American audience viewed television. Engulfed by the Vietnam War, Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, fight for women s right, and the Watergate scandal, Norman Lear persevered through stereotypes and entertainment norms with his show All in the Family. This show approached its audience in a very blunt and crude manner; it made conflict the center of its comedy. It dealt with contemporary cultural issues in a relatable way, which allowed blue collar workers to learn about their current everyday issues and concerns. Therefore, from declining his Kennedy Center Award because of his dislike for the President to breaking the taboos of television in the 1970s, Norman Lear has remained a visible changemaker in our society. Lear fused comedy and serious social issues together. All in the Family became the center of national debate between comedy and social issues. • 20. Obesity Is An Obesity Epidemic Exists To understand whether or not an obesity epidemic exists, one has to define obesity and determine what suggests an epidemic. According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) (2015), obesity means having too much body fat which can occur when one has more caloric intake than one uses, which is different for each person. In comparison, overweight means weighing too much and may result from bone, fat, muscle and body water (NIH, 2015). In both obesity and overweight, an individual s weight is considered greater than what may be considered healthy in relation to their height (NIH, 2015). Contributing factors that may affect weight are eating high fat goods, overeating, genetics, or not being physically active (Akabas, Lederman, Moore, 2012; NIH, 2015). To determine what is considered a healthy weight, a body mass index (BMI) is used to measure an individual s height and weight and estimates body fat as a determinant of potential risks for diseases (Akabas, Lederman, Moore, 2012; Morrill Chinn, 2004). BMI less than 18.5 is recognized as underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 is within normal weight and is categorized as a healthy weight, 25 to 29.9 is overweight, 30 to 34.9 is mild obesity, 35 to 39.9 is moderate obesity, and 40 and over is severe obesity (Akabas, Lederman, Moore, 2012; Jones, 2006; NIH, 2015; Reville, 2006). Currently, one in three adults in the United States are obese, increasing potential for health risks such as heart disease, diabetes high blood pressure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Gender Pay Gap Gender Pay Gap The economic issue with the gender pay gap has been a concern for quite some time. Many people say that men are paid more money, or have higher salaries than women; however, there are also people who believe otherwise. Some argue that maternity leave or education level is a reason why women seem to be paid less than men, and others argue that there is a bigger issue such as race and age. The following information will address both viewpoints on the gender pay gap and its issues within the economy, as well as history of women in the workforce. History In Colonial America, women stayed at home and took care of the household, took care of the children, made clothes, and made sure that there was food on the table while the men were at war. During this time, a group was formed called The Daughters of Liberty. These women were successful in proving that women can be beneficial to the new country in terms of politics and working. They also wanted to steer away from the British lifestyle while men wanted to keep their traditions. They refused to buy clothes, tea, or any other items that came from England, no matter what it was. They formed spinning societies to make their own clothing, as well as clothing for their male family members. This made America less dependent on British textiles, (Answers.) Bisson dated June 18, 1982, be admitted to probate without any codicils. Issue: 1. The first issue is whether the trial court erred in denying Greer s motion for summary judgment on the grounds that Mr. Austin s will contest was barred by T.C.A. § 32 4 108 (Supp. 1991). 2. The second issue for review is whether the trial court erred in directing a verdict for the contestant Austin by refusing to allow the 1984 codicil to be submitted to the jury. • 24. The Breakdown of Ithaka In the lands of Pylos and Sparta, the kingdoms are prospering and in the favor of the gods. However, in Ithaka, the kingdom is falling to pieces. Why are the kingdoms so different in their success? Homer puts these three kingdoms side by side in The Odyssey, making it easy to find similarities and differences between the three. Pylos and Sparta, ruled by Nestor and Menelaos, could not be more successful. Ithaka, currently has no king in its throne and chaos is resulting from the battle for the coveted seat. Compared to the kingdoms of Nestor and Menelaos, Ithaka is breaking down from the loss of order and their leader, Odysseus. Sparta and Pylos are successful, thriving kingdoms, so what makes Ithaka break down? Menelaos has a mansion that is the way the court of Zeus must be (4.72). He has no end of riches, and Sparta is prospering right along with him. Menelaos rules with compassion and this makes him a great ruler. In Pylos, Nestor sacrifices an impressive heifer for Athena; his goldsmith gloved each horn in a pure foil beaten out of the gold that Nestor gave him (3.437 438). This costly sacrifice is no expense, because Pylos is a wealthy country. Also, what is added to the success of Pylos, is the great rule of Nestor. He is a wise and generous soul, who strides to keep his kingdom under the favor of the gods. Athena truly favors Nestor in which she wishes honor to Nestor and his sons (3.58). • 25. Charter Schools Vs. Public Schools At the foundation of the American public school system is the belief that every child deserves a quality education. To this end, the public school system in America has undergone many reforms. One of which has been charter schools. Charter schools are independent public schools of choice working under the auspices of a charter and not governed by the board of education. The charter can be written by parents, teachers, school administrators, community leaders, educational businesses, etc. It determines the school s guiding principles, management and accountability systems. The state approves the charter and provides funding for the school. Families choose these schools for their children. ( Resistance Hinders Success, 2004) Charter schools differ from traditional public schools on three basic principles: accountability, choice and autonomy. Charter schools are held accountable for their ability to educate students, management of finances and handle operations. If they do not meet the guidelines established by the charter they are closed. They give families a choice as to what school their children will attend. Finally, charter schools have more autonomy than traditional public schools. They are able to make their own decisions regarding curriculum and school governance and can focus on academic achievement instead of bureaucracy. ( Resistance Hinders Success, 2004) Ray Budde first introduced the idea of charter schools in the United States in 1974. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Brexit Vote defines the lack of economic security promised by the European Union, which had dominated much of Britain s global objectives in the world economy. These political trends reveal the underlying trend in nationalism as part of the growing problem of economic inequality, which was devastating the British economy for the greater masses of working people. The lack of resolution for the economic recession brought about a public reaction to policies related to nationalistic objectives, which were dominated by populist sentiment: At a time when so many Europeans are faced with unemployment, uncertainty and growing inequality (200). Certainly, the vote for Brexit defines the underlying re reemergence of nationalism as a political option in the opposition of failed EU economic policies. The Brexit Vote also defined a complex new set of nationalist principles, which were based on the turning back the clock of racial identity in the pre EU global order. For instance, the re emergence of nationalism was also being defined by a the Anglo Saxon purity of cultural and racial traditions, which undermined the tensions behind the Brexit Vote. In this manner, the perception of job losses in England also exacerbated racial tensions in relation to the immigration crisis across Europe.
