In Canada, Terry Fox Is Always Suggested To Be A Hero Who
In Canada, Terry Fox is always suggested to be a hero who offered by way of clues to a
Canadian cultural identity. Terry Fox is a famous Canadian athlete and cancer research activist. In
1980, his efforts for embarking on a cross Canada run to make people recognize the importance of
cancer research, with one of his legs amputated, successfully influenced and engaged millions of
people. Terry Fox quotes that to him, being famous himself is not the idea of the run, while the only
important part for him is the Marathon of Hope. (1980) In this essay, I am going to analyze the
heroism, nationalism and identity that Terry Fox brings to Canadian history. First of all, throughout
Canadas history, its culture is mostly influenced... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Terry was diagnosed with cancer and had part of his leg amputated, however, he didn t lose hope
and confidence for the life. In fact, he decided to do a series of 10 kilometre runs across Canada.
With the 3393 mile long running in different locations, a lot of Canadians are inspired , and they
called on the offices of Minister of Amateur Sport Gerald Regan, Governor General Edward
Schreyer, and Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, to celebrate a national honour of Fox. Fitness and
Amateur Sport announced it the commemorate Terry s great marathon achievement and his
courage and unifying influence on our nation (Fitness and Amateur Sport 1981). This
announcement was widely spread so that Terry s Marathon of Hope has been marked as the
significant Canadian moment. At that time, Terry was not only as a hero but also as a man who
joined Canada together at a time when it was growing farther and farther apart (Hamm 1981). In
fact, Terry s Marathon of Hope took place when the Charter of Rights and Freedoms was under
construction, Dominion Day was renamed Canada Day, and O Canada became the official national
anthem. All of theses were part of a new symbolic order crafted primarily by the Trudeau Liberals,
which promoted a pan Canadian vision of the federation (Hayday 2010, 311). His strong efforts and
attitude towards the marathon means significant to the whole country. Daniel

The Bible By The Poisonwood Bible
Midterm
Movies and books about missionaries haven t portrayed missionaries in a positive light. Fiction
writers and movie producers have led people on to believe, that missionaries are self serving and
as having specific intentions. One of the prime examples of misrepresenting a missionary; is the
book called The Poisonwood Bible. I had to read The Poisonwood Bible in an English class.
The Poisonwood Bible is the story of a missionary named Nathan Price and his family. Nathan
was Reverend and he was mean to his wife and children. Nathan and his family lived in the
Congo. He was disrespectful to his wife and his children were terrified of him. I remember reading
the book thinking, how does he represent God?
Missionaries are sent out to cross cultural barriers and spread the gospel. Missionaries are not sent
too foreign countries to destroy or to break the people down. Missionaries have faced scrutiny,
because of the negative of missionaries in movies and in books. There some positive movies made
about missionaries.
Jesus was the perfect missionary. Jesus went to different places and taught the word of God. Jesus
drew people unto him. Jesus told his disciples, that if they follow him, he would make them
fishermen of men. Jesus taught anywhere. Jesus delivered the word so profoundly.
Jesus was from the lineage of Abraham. God made a covenant with Abraham to make him the
father of many nations. According to Matthew Jesus was the Messiah for all people. When Jesus
became angry,

Assessing Renewable Energy Projects Essay
As aforediscussed, many authors agree that capital utilization play an important role in defining
business viability; however there is a lack of assessment methodologies for making such assessment
possible on the context of assessing Renewable Energy Projects. In view of that, and in order to
tackle this difficulty, a generic assessment model has been presented on Chapter three Within the
context of studying Renewable EnergyProjects, this section provides an application of the generic
model as to provide a glance on the insights, or gains in knowledge that can be achieved from the
exploration of capital.

Due to these reasons, it has become of crucial importance to understand the Brazilian Renewable
Energy System. Therefore, this thesis applies its present assessment methodology in order to test its
ability in generating useful information to the viability analysis process.
4.1.1 Brazil
With its 8.5 million square kilometers and over 190 million inhabitants, Brazil is not only the
fifth largest territory, comprising nearly half of South America, but also the world s fourth
largest democracy (CIA, 2008). This tropical country is a major world player comprising one of
the most modern and sophisticated industrial economies of the developing world the tenth
largest at market exchange rates. Despite ranking as the world s 15th largest oil producer,
advancing to become oil independent due to recent massive discoveries in oil resources along its
coast (see Mello, 2008), few countries with reasonably good levels of industrialization and oil
reserves have an energy matrix with such an important share of renewable energy sources (as
Brazil) (Walter, Dolzan, E. Piacente, 2006). Brazil is considered to have the world s

Essay about The Facts of Evolution
The Facts of Evolution
A fact is something that exists beyond question. It is an actuality, an objective reality. It is
established by solid evidence. A theory is something unproved but at times assumed true for the
sake of argument. It has yet to be proved as factual. Nonetheless, sometimes something is declared
to be a fact that is only a theory.
In a September 30, 1986 article of the New York Times there was an published article by a New
York University professor, Irving Kristol. His contention is that if evolutionwere taught in the
public schools as the theory it is rather than as the fact it isn t, there would not be the controversy
that now rages between evolution and creationism. Kristol stated: There is also little doubt ... Show

How did life begin? This question has stirred more speculation and ignited more debate. Yet the
controversy is not simply over evolution versus creation. Much of the conflict takes place among
the evolutionists themselves. Virtually every detail of evolution, how it happened, where it started,
who or what started it, and how long the process took is disputed.
Time magazine suggests Life did not arise under calm, benign conditions, as once assumed, but
under the hellish skies of a planet racked by volcanic eruptions and menaced by comets and
asteroids. For years evolutionists claimed that life began in a warm pool of organic soup. Some
now believe that foam in the ocean could have bred life. Undersea geysers are another proposed
site of life s origin. Some suggest that living organisms arrived on earthbound meteors or perhaps
asteroids smashed into earth and changed the atmosphere, stirring up life in the process. . Plow a
big iron asteroid into earth, and you will certainly get interesting things happening. To think also
that an extraordinary being like man emerged out of chemicals dissolved in a pool of warm water
that was struck by lightening is the real myth.
The basic unit of living things is the cell, and the basic material that makes up a cell is protein.
Evolutionists acknowledge that the probability of the right atoms and molecules falling into place to

College Admission Essay
I ve always been interested in the field of medicine. When I was being born, I almost died, being
saved only by the ingenuity of a Nurse Day for whom my middle name is dedicated to. Above
all else, I want to have an impact on the quality of life for others, and I think the University of
Pennsylvania is one of, if not the, best ways to do that. Its bioengineering department is
consistently ranked to be the most rigorous in the field, and I can handle rigor. Given that the vast
majority of bioengineering undergraduates at UPenn take part in independent research and that
many go on to publish their findings, the tools to excel at UPenn are readily available, and I plan
to excel. I find this, more than anything else, to be why I find UPenn to be so appealing. The
ability for and even the encouragement of undergraduate students to follow their own path, to
design their own trials, and to even publish their results is very captivating to me.... Show more

I consider my extracurriculars to be just as integral to my intellectual identity as my academic

surprise to me when I saw myself joining my high school s Speech Debate team in a sleep

majority just needed some more sleep. Almost immediately, I was thrust into a world of moral
frameworks, weighing mechanisms, and judging paradigms. I was overwhelmed and confused,

Euthanasia Vs Physician Assisted Suicide
Euthanasia and physician assisted suicide can often get confused with one another and although
both are 2 different practices, they share the same end goal; a peaceful death. Today, only a few
countries in the entire world have legalized the practice of euthanasia, showing just how
controversial the topic has become in recent years. Should someone be able to die just because
they feel like it or should valid reasons be required? And who gets to decide whether an assisted
suicide is allowed or not? The answers to questions like these are never simple but to guarantee the
freedoms of liberty that were given to many in the form of government constitutions, all these
questions and more must be answered. Although life on Earth is a gift that was... Show more content

Adults have been alive for a substantial time longer than the children around them. With this age
comes maturity, the ability to make their own decisions, and having been able to experience life
much more than a sick child likely has. Being diagnosed with a terminal illness then, if not
devastating enough, raises the bar even higher, since one will be painfully aware of how the life
they once knew will be taken from them slowly each day. Eventually, there may be nothing to
look forward to as this disease robs them of who they once were. It is unjust to allow these adults
to become nostalgics of their past life as they suffer through their new one, therefore assisted
suicide should be offered to the patients with terminal and incurable illnesses who are 16 and
older. David Swanton, an author who advocates the right to be able to die with dignity quotes a
man who recently went to battle over his right to euthanasia, he states, Over himself, over his
own body and mind, the individual is sovereign . To deny a person the right to live his or her life
as he or she wishes implies that each individual does not know what is right for himself or herself.
And sadly enough, eventually some patients will lose this ability, but what becomes of them then?
Do they lounge around and become human vegetables that a family will need to take care of with
not only basic needs but also hospital bills? Is the ability the patient

The Characteristics Of Morality In Shakespeare s Hamlet
He that can have patience can have what he will. (Franklin). Patience is a skill revolved around
accepting or tolerating delay. The play, Hamlet, written from the late 1500s to the early 1600s, is
one of the most famous works of William Shakespeare. In the play, the protagonist, Prince Hamlet
of Denmark, has mastered such skill. There are several theories about why Prince Hamletdelayed
killing his uncle. First of all, Hamlet does not want to send Claudius to heaven by killing him at
prayer. Additionally, Hamlet feels the need to publicize what happened and consequently waits to
murder Claudius until the truth is revealed. Lastly, Hamlet suffered from an Oedipal Complex and
displayed various characteristics of the Oedipus Complex. This term describes a child s feelings of
affection for their opposite sex parent. These points illustrate that Hamlet was self composed
enough to wait to end the life of King Claudius for many different reasons.
In the world, there are many people who have incredible tolerance. Hamlet is an example of one
of these people. Hamlet was probably the most forebearent person in all of Denmark. He was
able to wait for an idealistic moment to end the life of Claudius while having obstacles in his way.
Hamlet even pretended to be insane, which causes his mother to think that her son was incurable,
just so his plan would not fail. The first time Hamlet comes across a moment to kill his uncle was
when he sees him allegedly asking God to forgive his sins.

Popular Culture Film And Music
Popular culture film and music has long since been awash with drug references and imagery. The
context of these references has majorly affected the way in which they are received and perceived
by the wider public, expressly in times of social or political change and unrest. The context in which
these images and sounds are being interpreted affect the response to racial vilification,
representation, along with gender roles and stereotypes. Conventional practice in the entertainment
industries has developed over time but drugs, their users and dealers, including the consumption
and production, continue to be portrayed in a mainly negative light, showing the complexity of this
particular social process.
Context, being the time and place in which the medium is being produced, assumes a major
responsibility in the portrayal of drugs themselves, the user, the dealer and the trafficker. Zinberg s
(1984) description of drug use as drug, set and setting presents strongly in the notion of context.
This is evident in the portrayal of a drug on screen as it becomes increasingly popular amongst the
public. Social and political changes affect usage and its representation of drugs in a community
and the wider world. The 1960s and 70s saw a hippie, anti establishment counterculture emerge and
with this came an expansion of drug culture. Music and videos released at this time by The Beatles
such as the psychedelic Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds video (1967) and much of the 1967 album,

Marian Relief
This article provided new information about Marian reliefs that I had never considered, before. In
Johnson s writing, she describes the role of Marian relief sculptures in fifteenth century Italy. The
most interesting aspects of these sculptures was the role they played in worship and marital rituals.
In this essay, I will discuss Johnson s writings about the necessity of naturalistic sculptures and
Marian reliefs part in these rituals. As described by Johnson, Italian s increasingly strong urge to
become more in tuned with God and JesusChrist became apparent through the sculpted reliefs that
were created for public and private worship. This need resulted in a more naturalistic approach to
statues that concerned the Madonna and

Causes and Treatments of Peptic Ulcer Disease
A peptic ulcer can be defined as an excavation that forms in the mucosal wall of the stomach, in
the pylorus, in the duodenum, or in the esophagus (Brunner, Suddarth and Smeltzer, 2008).
According to Fromm, (2009) Helobactor pylori is a gram negative bacteria that is the cause of
most peptic ulcer disease and is considered a primary risk factor in the development of gastic
cancer (pg. 394). Other causes include stress, and excessive secrtion of Hydrochloric acid in the
stomach. Transmission of H. pylori according to Gurney, Carvalho, Gonzalez, Galaviz Sonstein
(2014) states there is strong research supporting that H. pylori can be spread person to person
through direct contact with saliva, vomit, or fecal matter (pg. 393). H. Pylori is more prevalent in
crowded areas without reliable access to clean water. Other risk factors include poor hygiene,
smoking, and close living conditions with someone who is infected with H. pylori. Symptoms of an
ulcer include a burning sensation in the stomach and esophagus, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation
and bleeding. Treatment of Peptic UlcerDisease includes antibiotics to eradicate H. pylori bacteria;
proton pump inhibitors are used to treat NSAID induced ulcers and other ulcers not associated with
the bacterial infection, smoking cessation and dietary modifications. Surgical management is
recommended for ulcers that fail to heal after 12 16 months of treatments and the procedures
include pyloroplasy, anrectomy or vagotomy.

ABSTRACT In this paper , the problem of identification of masses or tumors in the Magnetic
Resonance Image (MRI) of Brain . Here a novel method of Power Law Transformation is
introduced on the Brain Image. The gamma value for the Brain Image is fixed as 1.5 and
thresholding is done. Thus the resulting binary image clearly separates any kind of tumors or a
mass present in the brain images, and makes the identification process easier. By exhaustive
experimentations it is found that the proposed algorithm is performs well than the literature. The
experimentations is done with the Virtual Skeleton Database (VSD) which is a brain tumor image
dataset obtained from Challenge on Multimodal Brain Tumor Segmentation with are the outcomes
of BRATS2012 and BRATS2013. It is reported that the tumor in the brain is identified correctly in
majority of cases and the efficiency of the proposed algorithm is 90% in case of normal images
and 82.51% in case of multimodal images.

Evaluating The Cutting Process Parameters For Achieving...
Milling is a constructive machining process used in the production industry to make and
assembling the components. The extensive and expensive experimental work is necessary to
evaluate the cutting process parameters for achieving the preferred machined quality. In this regard,
the present work is focused on minimizing the machined damage. Moreover, the paper presents the
comparative analysis and performance of two different mill tools such as a specially designed
carbide tipped tool and a solid carbide tool. Subsequently, comparing the evaluation of two tools was
illustrated by plotting origin graphs. Finally, experimental results were thoroughly analyzed by
Scanning electron micrographs to study the cutting characteristics of machined surface texture.

U.S Human Rights Intervention Essay
Should the U.S. intervene to prevent or end violations of human rights (including genocide) in
foreign countries when these violations do not directly affect other American interests?
The United States is a growing global power and presence. Most other countries are not. We are
often called upon to engage in conflict situations like preventing violations of human rights and
genocide. Intervening only where our national interest is concerned would only bring about
negative reactions, which could undermine our effectiveness and especially our international
credibility. Therefore, the U.S. should seek to intervene in and prevent violations of human rights

should intervene whether national interest are involved or not because this will continue to ensure
that the U.S. plays a major role in shaping other countries foreign policy and remaining a key
player in world politics. Editor and Author, Robert Kagan maintains in his book, American Power A
guide for the perplexed that American national interests need to be interpreted broadly to take into
account the country s position as world leader.
Intervening only where our interests are involved will make other countries suspicious in their
dealings with the U.S. in most other aspects. If countries realize that the U.S. intervenes only when
American national interest is involved, they might become hostile to U.S. advances because they
might think the U.S. wants to gain something from them. In short, other countries would regard us
as a selfish country, only concerned with human rights internally and concerned with where we can
gain externally. Acting only where our national interest are concerned may open up opportunities
for endless frivolous complaints to be lodged against the United States as a global power and
presence.
Lastly, if U.S. intervention in the prevention of human rights is based solely on other American
interests, our world today will be a world of crisis , so to speak, because such crimes as genocide,
crimes against humanity, violations of human rights and humanitarian law would be much more
commonplace and no

A Study on the Urinary System and Preeclampsia
The Urinary System and Pre eclampsia: The Urinary system comprises of tubes, organs, nerves, and
muscles that work together to develop, store, and transport urine. The system is basically made up
of two ureters, two kidneys, the urethra, two sphincter muscles, and the bladder. This system in the
human body is primarily concerned with the filtering of extra fluid and substances from the
bloodstream in the form of urine. While urine is used to extract extra bloodcorpuscles, vitamins, or
mineral from the human body, it s a liquid created by the kidneys, gathered in the bladder, and
filtered through the urethra. Notably, the urinary systemis an important part of the human body
since it works with other systems to assist in maintenance of homeostasis.
Normal Physiology of the Urinary System: The basic function of the urinary system is to remove
the urea waste from the body, which is produced following the breaking down of foods containing
protein and some vegetables. The urea is transported in the bloodstreams to the kidneys, which are
bean shaped organs. These kidneys in turn extract the urea from the blood through nephrons i.e. tiny
filtering units that consist of small blood capillaries and a small tube. In addition to other waste
substances and water, urea forms the urine as it passes through the tiny filtering units and down the
small tube ( The Urinary System , n.d.). This is followed by the travelling of the urine down the
two thin tubes known as ureters to the

What Is The Mood Of Heart Of Darkness Imperialism
Situate passage into the plot of the story. Marlow has just come across a part of Thames which
he refers to as a part of darkness too. Conrad had just went on to list a lot of English seamen
before Marlow does. Marlow refers to the knights Conrad speaks of as no colonists but as
conquerers which is nothing to brag about, This is in stark contrast to what the narrator of the
book had just finished stating, thus suggesting that the narrator is the average persoective while
Marlow expresses Conrad s true thoughts. Moreover, Marlow describes what he dislikes so much
about these conquerers and even makes his opinion clear: that we shouldn t classify people as
brutes just because they look different from us.
Including Conrad s arguably most memorable line ( The conquest of the earth [...] is not a pretty
thing when you look into it too much, ) this passage conveys the contrast between the illusion the
public had of colonialism in the Congo with the reality. Earlier in the book, Conrad went on to list
various great knights who were the English imperialists, thus glamorizing the way in which
Europeans colonized all of Europe. Furthermore, the passage emphasizes that the colonialists had
been abusive and brutal towards people who were just like them apart from having a different
complexion and slightly flatter noses. Conrad, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Now, imagine if he or she were sick, or in any other kind of trouble. What would you do to help

Summary Of The Oklahoma Bombing Memorial Address By Bill...
Bill Clinton wrote the Oklahoma Bombing Memorial Address in order to comfort the families who
lost a loved one the night of the bombing. Anna Quindlen wrote The Quilt of a Country in order to
send a message to the readers about how they unite specifically. She is saying that how they unite is
similar to a quilt.Even though the Oklahoma Bombing Memorial Address, by Bill Clinton, and A
Quilt of a Country, by Anna Quindlen, both emphasize the importance of uniting in time of tragedy,
they differ in that Clinton s address compels the audienceto move on from tragedy while Quindlen s
essay appears to stress ironically the importance of embracing tragedy.
The Quilt of a country by Anna Quindlen and Oklahoma Bombing by Bill Clinton talked about
how they all should unite as a nation. Bill Clinton uses pathos to show sympathy to all those
who lost their lives all though the audience did not lose a loved one they must show them that
they are going to help them get through life even when an accident like the bombing happens.

in the Lancashire cricket team of that period as if it was today s sports news. I had been
devouring everything I could by James since I came to Jamaica to help establish a new graduate
school for social science research. I knew that he had lived in Lancashire when he left Trinidad for
Britain. It occurred to me that we had lived in the same places, the Caribbean, Britain, America,
Africa in a different sequence, at different times and with very different trajectories. Now,
watching my daughter play on that exotic beach, with my father s stories from childhood coming
alive again, the gap between this old black man and myself was collapsed into a single moment
by the compelling immediacy of James s prose. Generation and racial differences were erased in
an epiphany of timeless connection. I felt compelled to meet him and so I wrote the first and only
fan letter of my life.
Dear Mr James,
Like you I have lived in Britain, the USA, Africa and now the Caribbean. I started out from
Lancashire. In the last few months, I have read a good fraction of your writings, as well as a

Why Canada Is An Astounding Nation
People in the United States joke a lot about Canadians, which makes sense since Canada can be
very strange. Canada never declared independence. Justin Bieber is from Canada. Canada s
military is non existent. They give out the Juno award. Their accents sound kind of silly, eh?
Canada could improve a couple things, but Canada, however, possesses many admirable qualities,
some that others praise them for, and others that outsiders do not notice. I, personally, have to
come to admire Canada for 3 reasons, which I try to emulate. My scarlet letter honors these
efforts. I think Canada is an astounding nation because their global influence lies largely below
the radar, their government remains at peace with virtually everyone, and the Canadian people
are generally known for their genuine kindness and care for others. Canada benefits
economically and politically because many countries don t take them seriously as a world
power. Foreign nations are not alarmed when Canada adds its name late to treaties and
economic policies late in a process. Despite this, Canadian decisions play a major role on the
world stage, as they did in 1923 s Chanak crisis, where they kept Britain from intervening in wars
in the former Ottoman Empire simply by refusing to help. Although I would like to be respected
in my lifetime, being underestimated by the common people could benefit me in many ways. If
there was someone who stepped out to lead a group that was simply not a good leader, I could

The Causes Of Professional Football
Nobody who ever gave his best regretted it said George S. Halas, former Chicago Bears head
coach. I do not share this same opinion. Professional football is a game of intense passion,
aggression, and power. I asked myself, how can a game that brings so much joy and comradery
to America be so dangerous? Football is known for its memorable game winning touchdowns and
hard hits the players receive. That is what we see on the news and in the papers. We don t see all
the injuries these players develop over time, all the painthey go through. Professional football
causes not only physical injuries but mental injuries that can lead to druguse. This is a very hard
topic to write about because it is a sport we have all come to know and love, but the truth of the
mater is that our professional football players are getting hurt. During a regular football season
9.1% of professional football players injure their ankle or foot, 50.4% of players injure their leg
and knees, 11.9% injure their back and spine, 16.9% their shoulder and arm, and 4.3% injure
their neck. The healing process of these injuries can be as little as 2 days but up to 20 weeks. The
impact these players receive from hitting and running into each other is not something the human
body was made for. The wear and tear one s body goes through is painful and can lead to long
term injuries even after they have ended their football career, such as arthritis and joint pain.
Professional players suffer from broken bones,

The End Of The Peace Treaty
Christ is saying when you see the abomination, which is halfway through the seven year
tribulation, if you live in Judea (Palestinian State), run to safety and don t look back. It s going to
be very urgent. So, at the beginning of the peace treaty the people will think they have the answer,
but after three and half years, the next event will be the beginning of the great tribulation. For the
Jews, Jesusis warning them if they live in the Palestinian occupied territories, to immediately flee
for their lives. Under a sharing arrangement, we can envision we are entering a time that is near
what the Bible reveals as the seven years leading up to the final war. Jesus declares in Matthew

SHOULD BELIEVERS STORE FOOD? Jesus advises His disciples in Matthew, chapter 5:
So don t worry at all about having enough food and clothing. Why be like the heathen? For they
take pride in all these things and are deeply concerned about them. But your heavenly Father
already knows perfectly well that you need them, and he will give them to you if you give him
first place in your life and live as he wants you to (Matthew 5:33). Other examples in Scripture
include the story of Joseph in Egypt, who is a shadow of Jesus, and the manna that God
provided for food for the Israelites in the wilderness. Jesus will also provide for His children in
times of wildernesses. I believe an obsession of storing is wrong. Christ s final words to His
disciples while on Earth were, Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19). Jesus gives us signs
of His return. There will be wars and rumor of wars, yet the end is not here. This is only the
beginning. Like giving birth, pains come every little bit. They will get closer together. Wars will
come and go, yet believers are to focus on the coming birth and not on the pains. There will be
famines and earthquakes. Keep one eye on Israel and the Messianic

Are People Naturally Good Or Evil Research
A straightforward question. Are humans naturally good or evil? A simple question that has many
of different answers and a question that may require deep thinking. For me, both sides I was
drawn to. My household is christian, so I thought of the religious answer, but I also thought that
people are born good and their environment and decisions can cause them to be evil. This is what
I came up with. When I thought of this question the first thing that popped up in my head is
babies , so I did a little research. Babies are humans with the absolute minimum of cultural
influence (bbc.com). They don t have a lot of friends, and they don t go to school or read any

This case is centred on the European brewing industry and examines how the increasingly
competitive pressure of operating within global markets is causing consolidation through
acquisitions, alliances and closures within the industry. This has resulted in the growth of the
brewers reliance upon super brands.
In the first decade of the twenty first century, European brewers faced a surprising paradox. The
traditional centre of the beer industry worldwide, and still the largest regional market, Europe, was
turning off beer. Beer consumption was falling in the largest markets of Germany and the United

Root cause organizational issues:
In analyzing the brief case study Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant: Motivating in the Good times and
Bad , it was brought to light that the root of the organizational issues was that of productivity,
motivation and employer dissatisfaction following the decline of the Scanlon Plan. The Scanlon
Plan was an incentive system that provided bonuses to employees for their increased productivity
within the plant. In the early 2000 s employee satisfaction, morale and productivity rapidly declined
following the layoff of nearly 50 employees and the employees who remained were then expecting
the bonuses that were incorporated into the plan without doing the ... Show more content on

Employees at the plant no longer felt secure in their positions nor did they feel valued by their
superiors; Collaboration fosters innovation and creativity which in turn drive improvements in
productivity (Newstrom, J. 2015) The goal to implement the Scanlon Plan as a cost effective
measure began to deteriorate when the collaborative component went undervalued and ignored.
Successful Scanlon organizations have included overall recognition, participation and collaboration
to promote motivation and drive within their respective organizations and have also included
balanced (unwritten) psychological contracts which speak to the reciprocal obligation both parties
share. Given these perspectives, it raises the question: was the intension of cost saving via
implementation of the poorly facilitated Scanlon Plan worth is ultimate downfall and employee

Auguste Comte s Sociological Approach To The Scientific...
Sociology is the study of human social relationships and institutions and the study of social
problems. Sociology investigates the social causes and consequences of such things as prejudice
and discrimination. Auguste Comte first used the term sociology in 1838 to refer to the scientific
study of society. He argued that society needs scientific knowledge based on facts and evidence to
solve its problems. Spencer suggested that society will correct its own defects through the natural
process of survival of the fittest. Marx claimed that social conflict, especially class conflict, and
competition mark all societies. Durkheim stressed the importance of studying social facts or
patterns of behavior characteristic of a particular group. He advocated the use of systematic
observation to study sociological events, but he also recommended that sociologists avoid
considering people s attitudes when explaining society. Weber argued that sociologists must also
take into account people s interpretations of events; not just the events themselves. He believed that
sociologists must inquire about people s thoughts, feelings, and perceptions regarding their own
behaviors. These Sociologists were the main players during the 19th and 20th century, and their
prior work led to the development of Sociologyin America. Sociologists throughout the decades
have sought to develop a scientific approach to the study and resolve such issues as prejudice and
discrimination. Early

Lejuez et al., (2002) decided to reduce the possibility of Type 1 error by deciding beforehand (a
priori) to only look at the adjusted number of pumps as the measurement for riskiness, yet they
found that the number of explosions and unadjusted number of pumps produces similar results
(p.79). A few interesting results were found in this first BART experiment. The first is that,
correlations indicated that the adjusted number of pumps was not related to age or IQ for any of
the balloon colors ( ps .05) ( Lejuez et al., 2002). They found no gender difference except for the
blue balloons where it shows men being slightly more risky, (table 1). That is, the adjusted average

They state that the first limitation is the sample that was taken from people at the higher end of
riskiness due the prompt they used in the paper that asked are you a risk taker? They state the
second limitation is that the people that answered the recruitment add where mostly white
(75%) and well educated. The third limitation that was reported that our assessment of actual
risk behaviors was less comprehensive, often relying on only a single measure or even on a
single item (e.g., number of unprotected sexual encounters) (lejuez, et al., 2002, p. 82). The
fourth reported limitation is that people were behaving cautiously on the task. Finally the BART
only showed association with self reported real world risk behaviors from the blue balloons.
Therefore, the restricted range of the yellow and orange balloons did not find the same
relationship. Although there were some limitations to this study, overall, it showed the BART it a
useful tool in measuring risk taking behavior in the lab. The BART was not designed to replace
the existing self report measures; it is designed to tap into actual risk taking behavior that can be
observed in the lab. Risk taking behavior is only one facet of the issue of developing an addiction.
There are biological and environmental factors that impact outcomes. Impulsivity is associated with
risk taking behavior because both behaviors are associated with maladaptive behaviors

Why Did A Golf Ball Grow So High Essay
Discussion:
From the information gathered from graph 1, we can see that each of the ball s bounce heights did
not vary significantly. Unexpectedly, the golf ball bounced the highest, smashing the tennis ball s
results. While each of the balls shared similarity in terms of their bounce height, the golf ball was
the only ball which bounced considerably higher than the others. The table tennis ball followed the
tennis ball, but the ball which achieved the least height was the baseball. There was a significant
difference between the bounce heights of the baseball and the golf ball
I believe that the reason of why the golf ball bounced so high was because of the material from
which it is made out of. As the golf ball hit the ground, its molecules ... Show more content on

This could have been improved if a clamp was used to hold the ball on the 1 meter mark, and if the
clamp was slightly lower or higher, at least all the balls would be dropped at the same height.
To ensure that the ruler is level to achieve an accurate result, a spirit level could be used. Even
though it may not make a difference when on a flat surface, it is always worth checking if you
would like your results to be as accurate as possible.
Conclusion:
The results from this experiment show that the elasticity of a ball does not affect its bounce height.
The golf ball was not as elastic as the tennis ball, but its results were much higher than that of the
tennis ball. The results in this experiment tell us that while elasticity does have some affect on the
bounce height of the ball, another variable is altering their bounce height. The information gathered

The Importance Of Being A Self Directed By Jeff Cobb
There are many aspects to being a self directed, intrinsically motivated, and active learner. From our
reading assignments it has become plain that the most important aspect is taking initiative. This
means being someone who doesn t have to be told to learn this or that, but will take the first steps
down the road of learning. Taking the initiative to learn is core to every other aspect, whether we
talk about the 15 Ways of the Successful Self Directed Learner by Jeff Cobb, or come up with our
own definitions and reflections on being an active learner.
Instead of going through the list from our reading assignments, I m going to wing this a bit, and
touch upon the more important aspects which I consider essential to being an active learner.
Apart from being someone who takes initiative with learning, the next most important aspect
would be someone who is independent, as a truly successful active learner is someone who can
ask the questions and find the answers on their own. I think being curious is equally important,
since from this curiosity will spring the desire to learn, as the curious person asks questions and
finds answers to challenges and problems. As Jeff Cobb says it, The proverbial bottom line: the
successful self directed learner simply likes to learn. (Cobb, 2013)
All of these things discuss the qualities of the successful active learner, but there are other aspects
that are equally important, since without the right behaviors a person will never take the

Analysis Of Francois Truffaut s The 400 Blows ( 1959 )...
The French New Wave, or Nouvelle Vague, is among the most revolutionary film eras in the
history of cinema. Spurred as a result of major shifts in economic, social and technological norms
within post WW11 France, the New Wave conceived a renewed mode of expression across various
creative industries. Francois Truffaut s The 400 Blows(1959) and Jean Luc Godard s Breathless
(1960) are two films, which despite major disparities, would go on to exemplify integral
characteristics of the movement in the following years. Perhaps, the best way to truly appreciate the
fervor of New Wave cinema is to examine the context of its inception. Both the stylistic and
thematic qualities of French New Waveworks directly reflect the implicit values, virtues and vices
possessed by the emerging youth culture of the late 1950s, which consequently posed a
fundamental challenge to the institutions, ideas and attitudes of the past.
To fully comprehend why and how this cinematic motion took place, it is valuable here to
establish the wider social climate of France at the time, and the active forces which heavily
shaped New Wave cinema. Between the years of 1945 and 1975, France would undergo thirty
glorious years of economic growth, urbanization, and a considerable baby boom, all of which
came to expand and radically alter the parameters of French culture (Haine 33). Beneath the surface
affluence however, France was in a state of deep self evaluation and consciousness. Following

The Importance Of Coaching And An Organization
Introduction My opinion prior to taking this course and subsequently researching my first
assignment is that the purpose of coaching is to collaborate with an individual either in a one on
one setting or group setting with someone who will guide you and hold you accountable for what
you know within yourself is needed for one to grow and succeed both personally and professionally.
From what I have experienced within my current organization, coachingwas only extended to senior
leaders within the organization, while mentoring was offered to employees who were selected via

There is ongoing debate over the definition of coaching and mentoring. Not only does coaching
differs from mentoring it also varies differently from managerial approaches.
Several organizations have adopted the process of coaching and mentoring as development tools to
develop those employees who are seeking future advancement. Also, they are setting the foundation
for future leaders. The adaption of these developmental tools within an organization is providing
employees with the necessary feedback and support to establish and plan their career. Coaching
and mentoring provides an employee with the necessary leadership and management skills they
would need to endeavor in order to climb the career ladder within an organization. These processes
are both helping activities, employed either as distinct interventions or together as part of a package
of personal development. Coaching and mentoring are deemed a highly effective way to help
employees through talking, sense of direction and guidance, self esteem, efficacy and
accomplishment.
Reflecting on coaching.

Group Dynamics In The Devil Wears Prada
All companies have slight to significant culture that effect various dynamics among individual s

The organization could have expediential advantage to build continuous success from collaboration.
For the structure, it would allow the necessary flexibility to create good and/or unhealthy practices,

organizations thrive in a traditional culture while other usually depends on several factors such as

so when they feel anxious. In fact, one of the common causes of bruxism is stress. Other factors,
such as misaligned teeth or an improper bite, can also create discomfort. Less common causes of

PlastiDip is a very thin spray able rubber that can act like a paint but can be removed at any time

could remove the paint without a problem and no permanent consequences. The PlastiDip has a
short drying time, making it easy to spray on multiple layers in a short period of time. After the
second layer of the PlastiDip was fully sprayed on I let it cure over night to ensure that the
PlastiDip had fully gripped to the rifles stock. I kept the gun at room temperature and let it sit for

the easiest way to make the stencils would be to draw out the design on paper, and then transfer the
design onto the masking tape. From there I was planning on cutting out the designs. This would let
me create the proper pattern and the tape would seal against the gun to prevent leaking. The stencils
did not work like I was hoping they would. To cut out the pattern I first started using a pocket knife.

trying to understand and out the pieces together as a child .Growing up was developmental for me
now as an adult I understand things from both side. Growing up a Jersey girl is what made me.
Once my parents separated, my mother, sister, little brother and I left my grandmother s house to
stay with different relatives until my mother got it together. But our first stop was act my older
sister s house. It was different waken up somewhere different, waken up in a new environment,

The issue that is being investigated are between two Spanish football (soccer) teams which team is

C)What common ground do you share? (A value both sides agree on)
Both sides come from Spain, a place where football is highly competitive. This local rivalry is

Shepherd Research Paper
Pastor as a term has the indication that these individuals were specially called and equipped to
care for people who are within or touched by the Christian community. The term shepherd has a
similar description as the term pastor does. A shepherd is someone who leads, feeds and protects a

one another, if a pastor leads the people Godhas placed in their care in a manner similar to that of
how a shepherd is towards his sheep, the responsive of these people will be a positive and loving
one towards the pastor (Javier 2013, 27 28).

One must know that pastoral and counseling ministries should two areas of ministry that

is ultimately up to the pastor themselves. They should choose wisely on their decision, and

In 1980, his efforts for embarking on a cross Canada run to make people recognize the importance of cancer research, with one of his legs amputated, successfully influenced and engaged millions of people. Terry Fox quotes that to him, being famous himself is not the idea of the run, while the only important part for him is the Marathon of Hope. Terry was diagnosed with cancer and had part of his leg amputated, however, he didn t lose hope and confidence for the life. In fact, he decided to do a series of 10 kilometre runs across Canada. With the 3393 mile long running in different locations, a lot of Canadians are inspired , and they called on the offices of Minister of Amateur Sport Gerald Regan, Governor General Edward Schreyer, and Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, to celebrate a national honour of Fox. Fitness and Amateur Sport announced it the commemorate Terry s great marathon achievement and his courage and unifying influence on our nation (Fitness and Amateur Sport 1981). This announcement was widely spread so that Terry s Marathon of Hope has been marked as the significant Canadian moment. At that time, Terry was not only as a hero but also as a man who joined Canada together at a time when it was growing farther and farther apart (Hamm 1981). In fact, Terry s Marathon of Hope took place when the Charter of Rights and Freedoms was under construction, Dominion Day was renamed Canada Day, and O Canada became the official national anthem. All of theses were part of a new symbolic order crafted primarily by the Trudeau Liberals, which promoted a pan Canadian vision of the federation (Hayday 2010, 311). • 3. The Bible By The Poisonwood Bible Midterm Movies and books about missionaries haven t portrayed missionaries in a positive light. Fiction writers and movie producers have led people on to believe, that missionaries are self serving and as having specific intentions. One of the prime examples of misrepresenting a missionary; is the book called The Poisonwood Bible. I had to read The Poisonwood Bible in an English class. The Poisonwood Bible is the story of a missionary named Nathan Price and his family. Nathan was Reverend and he was mean to his wife and children. Nathan and his family lived in the Congo. He was disrespectful to his wife and his children were terrified of him. I remember reading the book thinking, how does he represent God? Missionaries are sent out to cross cultural barriers and spread the gospel. Missionaries are not sent too foreign countries to destroy or to break the people down. Missionaries have faced scrutiny, because of the negative of missionaries in movies and in books. There some positive movies made about missionaries. Jesus was the perfect missionary. Jesus went to different places and taught the word of God. Jesus drew people unto him. Jesus told his disciples, that if they follow him, he would make them fishermen of men. Jesus taught anywhere. Jesus delivered the word so profoundly. Jesus was from the lineage of Abraham. God made a covenant with Abraham to make him the father of many nations. A theory is something unproved but at times assumed true for the sake of argument. It has yet to be proved as factual. Nonetheless, sometimes something is declared to be a fact that is only a theory. In a September 30, 1986 article of the New York Times there was an published article by a New York University professor, Irving Kristol. Yet the controversy is not simply over evolution versus creation. Much of the conflict takes place among the evolutionists themselves. Virtually every detail of evolution, how it happened, where it started, who or what started it, and how long the process took is disputed. Time magazine suggests Life did not arise under calm, benign conditions, as once assumed, but under the hellish skies of a planet racked by volcanic eruptions and menaced by comets and asteroids. For years evolutionists claimed that life began in a warm pool of organic soup. Some now believe that foam in the ocean could have bred life. Undersea geysers are another proposed site of life s origin. Some suggest that living organisms arrived on earthbound meteors or perhaps asteroids smashed into earth and changed the atmosphere, stirring up life in the process. . Plow a big iron asteroid into earth, and you will certainly get interesting things happening. To think also that an extraordinary being like man emerged out of chemicals dissolved in a pool of warm water that was struck by lightening is the real myth. When I was being born, I almost died, being saved only by the ingenuity of a Nurse Day for whom my middle name is dedicated to. Above all else, I want to have an impact on the quality of life for others, and I think the University of Pennsylvania is one of, if not the, best ways to do that. Its bioengineering department is consistently ranked to be the most rigorous in the field, and I can handle rigor. Given that the vast majority of bioengineering undergraduates at UPenn take part in independent research and that many go on to publish their findings, the tools to excel at UPenn are readily available, and I plan to excel. I find this, more than anything else, to be why I find UPenn to be so appealing. Euthanasia Vs Physician Assisted Suicide Euthanasia and physician assisted suicide can often get confused with one another and although both are 2 different practices, they share the same end goal; a peaceful death. Today, only a few countries in the entire world have legalized the practice of euthanasia, showing just how controversial the topic has become in recent years. Should someone be able to die just because they feel like it or should valid reasons be required? And who gets to decide whether an assisted suicide is allowed or not? With this age comes maturity, the ability to make their own decisions, and having been able to experience life much more than a sick child likely has. Being diagnosed with a terminal illness then, if not devastating enough, raises the bar even higher, since one will be painfully aware of how the life they once knew will be taken from them slowly each day. Eventually, there may be nothing to look forward to as this disease robs them of who they once were. It is unjust to allow these adults to become nostalgics of their past life as they suffer through their new one, therefore assisted suicide should be offered to the patients with terminal and incurable illnesses who are 16 and older. David Swanton, an author who advocates the right to be able to die with dignity quotes a man who recently went to battle over his right to euthanasia, he states, Over himself, over his own body and mind, the individual is sovereign . To deny a person the right to live his or her life as he or she wishes implies that each individual does not know what is right for himself or herself. • 9. The Characteristics Of Morality In Shakespeare s Hamlet He that can have patience can have what he will. (Franklin). Patience is a skill revolved around accepting or tolerating delay. The play, Hamlet, written from the late 1500s to the early 1600s, is one of the most famous works of William Shakespeare. In the play, the protagonist, Prince Hamlet of Denmark, has mastered such skill. There are several theories about why Prince Hamletdelayed killing his uncle. First of all, Hamlet does not want to send Claudius to heaven by killing him at prayer. Additionally, Hamlet feels the need to publicize what happened and consequently waits to murder Claudius until the truth is revealed. Lastly, Hamlet suffered from an Oedipal Complex and displayed various characteristics of the Oedipus Complex. This term describes a child s feelings of affection for their opposite sex parent. These points illustrate that Hamlet was self composed enough to wait to end the life of King Claudius for many different reasons. In the world, there are many people who have incredible tolerance. Hamlet is an example of one of these people. Hamlet was probably the most forebearent person in all of Denmark. He was able to wait for an idealistic moment to end the life of Claudius while having obstacles in his way. Hamlet even pretended to be insane, which causes his mother to think that her son was incurable, just so his plan would not fail. Conventional practice in the entertainment industries has developed over time but drugs, their users and dealers, including the consumption and production, continue to be portrayed in a mainly negative light, showing the complexity of this particular social process. Context, being the time and place in which the medium is being produced, assumes a major responsibility in the portrayal of drugs themselves, the user, the dealer and the trafficker. Zinberg s (1984) description of drug use as drug, set and setting presents strongly in the notion of context. This is evident in the portrayal of a drug on screen as it becomes increasingly popular amongst the public. Social and political changes affect usage and its representation of drugs in a community and the wider world. The 1960s and 70s saw a hippie, anti establishment counterculture emerge and with this came an expansion of drug culture. • 11. Marian Relief This article provided new information about Marian reliefs that I had never considered, before. In Johnson s writing, she describes the role of Marian relief sculptures in fifteenth century Italy. The most interesting aspects of these sculptures was the role they played in worship and marital rituals. In this essay, I will discuss Johnson s writings about the necessity of naturalistic sculptures and Marian reliefs part in these rituals. As described by Johnson, Italian s increasingly strong urge to become more in tuned with God and JesusChrist became apparent through the sculpted reliefs that were created for public and private worship. This need resulted in a more naturalistic approach to statues that concerned the Madonna and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Causes and Treatments of Peptic Ulcer Disease A peptic ulcer can be defined as an excavation that forms in the mucosal wall of the stomach, in the pylorus, in the duodenum, or in the esophagus (Brunner, Suddarth and Smeltzer, 2008). According to Fromm, (2009) Helobactor pylori is a gram negative bacteria that is the cause of most peptic ulcer disease and is considered a primary risk factor in the development of gastic cancer (pg. 394). Other causes include stress, and excessive secrtion of Hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Transmission of H. pylori according to Gurney, Carvalho, Gonzalez, Galaviz Sonstein (2014) states there is strong research supporting that H. pylori can be spread person to person through direct contact with saliva, vomit, or fecal matter (pg. 393). H. Pylori is more prevalent in crowded areas without reliable access to clean water. Other risk factors include poor hygiene, smoking, and close living conditions with someone who is infected with H. pylori. Symptoms of an ulcer include a burning sensation in the stomach and esophagus, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation and bleeding. Treatment of Peptic UlcerDisease includes antibiotics to eradicate H. pylori bacteria; proton pump inhibitors are used to treat NSAID induced ulcers and other ulcers not associated with the bacterial infection, smoking cessation and dietary modifications. Surgical management is recommended for ulcers that fail to heal after 12 16 months of treatments and the procedures include pyloroplasy, anrectomy or vagotomy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

ABSTRACT In this paper , the problem of identification of masses or tumors in the Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) of Brain . Here a novel method of Power Law Transformation is introduced on the Brain Image. The gamma value for the Brain Image is fixed as 1.5 and thresholding is done. Thus the resulting binary image clearly separates any kind of tumors or a mass present in the brain images, and makes the identification process easier. By exhaustive experimentations it is found that the proposed algorithm is performs well than the literature. The experimentations is done with the Virtual Skeleton Database (VSD) which is a brain tumor image dataset obtained from Challenge on Multimodal Brain Tumor Segmentation with are the outcomes of BRATS2012 and BRATS2013. It is reported that the tumor in the brain is identified correctly in majority of cases and the efficiency of the proposed algorithm is 90% in case of normal images and 82.51% in case of multimodal images. The extensive and expensive experimental work is necessary to evaluate the cutting process parameters for achieving the preferred machined quality. In this regard, the present work is focused on minimizing the machined damage. Moreover, the paper presents the comparative analysis and performance of two different mill tools such as a specially designed carbide tipped tool and a solid carbide tool. Subsequently, comparing the evaluation of two tools was illustrated by plotting origin graphs. Finally, experimental results were thoroughly analyzed by Scanning electron micrographs to study the cutting characteristics of machined surface texture. U.S Human Rights Intervention Essay Should the U.S. intervene to prevent or end violations of human rights (including genocide) in foreign countries when these violations do not directly affect other American interests? The United States is a growing global power and presence. Most other countries are not. We are often called upon to engage in conflict situations like preventing violations of human rights and genocide. Editor and Author, Robert Kagan maintains in his book, American Power A guide for the perplexed that American national interests need to be interpreted broadly to take into account the country s position as world leader. Intervening only where our interests are involved will make other countries suspicious in their dealings with the U.S. in most other aspects. If countries realize that the U.S. intervenes only when American national interest is involved, they might become hostile to U.S. advances because they might think the U.S. wants to gain something from them. In short, other countries would regard us as a selfish country, only concerned with human rights internally and concerned with where we can gain externally. Acting only where our national interest are concerned may open up opportunities for endless frivolous complaints to be lodged against the United States as a global power and presence. • 16. A Study on the Urinary System and Preeclampsia The Urinary System and Pre eclampsia: The Urinary system comprises of tubes, organs, nerves, and muscles that work together to develop, store, and transport urine. The system is basically made up of two ureters, two kidneys, the urethra, two sphincter muscles, and the bladder. This system in the human body is primarily concerned with the filtering of extra fluid and substances from the bloodstream in the form of urine. While urine is used to extract extra bloodcorpuscles, vitamins, or mineral from the human body, it s a liquid created by the kidneys, gathered in the bladder, and filtered through the urethra. Notably, the urinary systemis an important part of the human body since it works with other systems to assist in maintenance of homeostasis. Normal Physiology of the Urinary System: The basic function of the urinary system is to remove the urea waste from the body, which is produced following the breaking down of foods containing protein and some vegetables. The urea is transported in the bloodstreams to the kidneys, which are bean shaped organs. These kidneys in turn extract the urea from the blood through nephrons i.e. tiny filtering units that consist of small blood capillaries and a small tube. In addition to other waste substances and water, urea forms the urine as it passes through the tiny filtering units and down the small tube ( The Urinary System , n.d.). This is followed by the travelling of the urine down the two thin tubes known as ureters to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Conrad had just went on to list a lot of English seamen before Marlow does. Marlow refers to the knights Conrad speaks of as no colonists but as conquerers which is nothing to brag about, This is in stark contrast to what the narrator of the book had just finished stating, thus suggesting that the narrator is the average persoective while Marlow expresses Conrad s true thoughts. Moreover, Marlow describes what he dislikes so much about these conquerers and even makes his opinion clear: that we shouldn t classify people as brutes just because they look different from us. Including Conrad s arguably most memorable line ( The conquest of the earth [...] is not a pretty thing when you look into it too much, ) this passage conveys the contrast between the illusion the public had of colonialism in the Congo with the reality. Earlier in the book, Conrad went on to list various great knights who were the English imperialists, thus glamorizing the way in which Europeans colonized all of Europe. Bill Clinton wrote the Oklahoma Bombing Memorial Address in order to comfort the families who lost a loved one the night of the bombing. Anna Quindlen wrote The Quilt of a Country in order to send a message to the readers about how they unite specifically. She is saying that how they unite is similar to a quilt.Even though the Oklahoma Bombing Memorial Address, by Bill Clinton, and A Quilt of a Country, by Anna Quindlen, both emphasize the importance of uniting in time of tragedy, they differ in that Clinton s address compels the audienceto move on from tragedy while Quindlen s essay appears to stress ironically the importance of embracing tragedy. The Quilt of a country by Anna Quindlen and Oklahoma Bombing by Bill Clinton talked about how they all should unite as a nation. I found myself reading about my father s heroes in the Lancashire cricket team of that period as if it was today s sports news. I had been devouring everything I could by James since I came to Jamaica to help establish a new graduate school for social science research. I knew that he had lived in Lancashire when he left Trinidad for Britain. Canada could improve a couple things, but Canada, however, possesses many admirable qualities, some that others praise them for, and others that outsiders do not notice. I think Canada is an astounding nation because their global influence lies largely below the radar, their government remains at peace with virtually everyone, and the Canadian people are generally known for their genuine kindness and care for others. Canada benefits economically and politically because many countries don t take them seriously as a world power. Foreign nations are not alarmed when Canada adds its name late to treaties and economic policies late in a process. Despite this, Canadian decisions play a major role on the world stage, as they did in 1923 s Chanak crisis, where they kept Britain from intervening in wars in the former Ottoman Empire simply by refusing to help. • 33. Auguste Comte s Sociological Approach To The Scientific... Sociology is the study of human social relationships and institutions and the study of social problems. Sociology investigates the social causes and consequences of such things as prejudice and discrimination. Auguste Comte first used the term sociology in 1838 to refer to the scientific study of society. He argued that society needs scientific knowledge based on facts and evidence to solve its problems. Spencer suggested that society will correct its own defects through the natural process of survival of the fittest. Marx claimed that social conflict, especially class conflict, and competition mark all societies. Durkheim stressed the importance of studying social facts or patterns of behavior characteristic of a particular group. He advocated the use of systematic observation to study sociological events, but he also recommended that sociologists avoid considering people s attitudes when explaining society. Weber argued that sociologists must also take into account people s interpretations of events; not just the events themselves. He believed that sociologists must inquire about people s thoughts, feelings, and perceptions regarding their own behaviors. These Sociologists were the main players during the 19th and 20th century, and their prior work led to the development of Sociologyin America. They state the second limitation is that the people that answered the recruitment add where mostly white (75%) and well educated. The third limitation that was reported that our assessment of actual risk behaviors was less comprehensive, often relying on only a single measure or even on a single item (e.g., number of unprotected sexual encounters) (lejuez, et al., 2002, p. 82). The fourth reported limitation is that people were behaving cautiously on the task. Finally the BART only showed association with self reported real world risk behaviors from the blue balloons. Therefore, the restricted range of the yellow and orange balloons did not find the same relationship. Although there were some limitations to this study, overall, it showed the BART it a useful tool in measuring risk taking behavior in the lab. The BART was not designed to replace the existing self report measures; it is designed to tap into actual risk taking behavior that can be observed in the lab. Risk taking behavior is only one facet of the issue of developing an addiction. There are biological and environmental factors that impact outcomes. Impulsivity is associated with risk taking behavior because both behaviors are associated with maladaptive behaviors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Why Did A Golf Ball Grow So High Essay Discussion: From the information gathered from graph 1, we can see that each of the ball s bounce heights did not vary significantly. Unexpectedly, the golf ball bounced the highest, smashing the tennis ball s results. While each of the balls shared similarity in terms of their bounce height, the golf ball was the only ball which bounced considerably higher than the others. The table tennis ball followed the tennis ball, but the ball which achieved the least height was the baseball. There was a significant difference between the bounce heights of the baseball and the golf ball I believe that the reason of why the golf ball bounced so high was because of the material from which it is made out of. To ensure that the ruler is level to achieve an accurate result, a spirit level could be used. Even though it may not make a difference when on a flat surface, it is always worth checking if you would like your results to be as accurate as possible. Conclusion: The results from this experiment show that the elasticity of a ball does not affect its bounce height. The golf ball was not as elastic as the tennis ball, but its results were much higher than that of the tennis ball. The results in this experiment tell us that while elasticity does have some affect on the bounce height of the ball, another variable is altering their bounce height. • 36. The Importance Of Being A Self Directed By Jeff Cobb There are many aspects to being a self directed, intrinsically motivated, and active learner. From our reading assignments it has become plain that the most important aspect is taking initiative. This means being someone who doesn t have to be told to learn this or that, but will take the first steps down the road of learning. Taking the initiative to learn is core to every other aspect, whether we talk about the 15 Ways of the Successful Self Directed Learner by Jeff Cobb, or come up with our own definitions and reflections on being an active learner. Instead of going through the list from our reading assignments, I m going to wing this a bit, and touch upon the more important aspects which I consider essential to being an active learner. Apart from being someone who takes initiative with learning, the next most important aspect would be someone who is independent, as a truly successful active learner is someone who can ask the questions and find the answers on their own. I think being curious is equally important, since from this curiosity will spring the desire to learn, as the curious person asks questions and finds answers to challenges and problems. As Jeff Cobb says it, The proverbial bottom line: the successful self directed learner simply likes to learn. (Cobb, 2013) All of these things discuss the qualities of the successful active learner, but there are other aspects that are equally important, since without the right behaviors a person will never take the ... • 38. Analysis Of Francois Truffaut s The 400 Blows ( 1959 )... The French New Wave, or Nouvelle Vague, is among the most revolutionary film eras in the history of cinema. Spurred as a result of major shifts in economic, social and technological norms within post WW11 France, the New Wave conceived a renewed mode of expression across various creative industries. Francois Truffaut s The 400 Blows(1959) and Jean Luc Godard s Breathless (1960) are two films, which despite major disparities, would go on to exemplify integral characteristics of the movement in the following years. Perhaps, the best way to truly appreciate the fervor of New Wave cinema is to examine the context of its inception. Both the stylistic and thematic qualities of French New Waveworks directly reflect the implicit values, virtues and vices possessed by the emerging youth culture of the late 1950s, which consequently posed a fundamental challenge to the institutions, ideas and attitudes of the past. To fully comprehend why and how this cinematic motion took place, it is valuable here to establish the wider social climate of France at the time, and the active forces which heavily shaped New Wave cinema. Between the years of 1945 and 1975, France would undergo thirty glorious years of economic growth, urbanization, and a considerable baby boom, all of which came to expand and radically alter the parameters of French culture (Haine 33). Beneath the surface affluence however, France was in a state of deep self evaluation and consciousness. Following WW11, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The PlastiDip has a short drying time, making it easy to spray on multiple layers in a short period of time. After the second layer of the PlastiDip was fully sprayed on I let it cure over night to ensure that the PlastiDip had fully gripped to the rifles stock. When I arrived home from these priorities I began to make the stencils to create the designs on the rifle. I decided that I wanted to do a striped cut pattern on the gun using a red spray paint. Creating the stencils was the hardest part of the project. I thought that the easiest way to make the stencils would be to draw out the design on paper, and then transfer the design onto the masking tape. From there I was planning on cutting out the designs. This would let me create the proper pattern and the tape would seal against the gun to prevent leaking. The stencils did not work like I was hoping they would.
