The Methodology Of Islamic Economics And Positive Economics
Introduction
Methodology of economics has been an essential part in constructing the fundamental economic
theories and hypotheses. It has been a subject of research by economists and become their interest
in answering empirical problems of human beings. It becomes a main framework of positivists in
developing their thought on economic system. The methodology also utilized in developing Islamic
economic to build self and distinct system than the existing conventional economic due to several
differentiations of its worldview and primary sources. The differences in sources and characteristics
between two disciplines lead to a different methodological framework.
This study will attempt to discuss the distinction between the methodology of Islamic economics
and positive economics. The study will start from defining each system, followed by comparing the
similarity of the methodology, and finally contrasting of both methods.
The Definitions
There are two descriptions of definition from each system. Siddiqi (1992) notes in Chapra (2000)
that the definition of Islamic economics is The Muslim thinkers response to the economic
challenges of their times. In this endeavor, they were aided by the Quran and the Sunnah as well
as by reason and experience. The definition of economic as a positive science as revealed by
Friedman (1966) that it is a body of tentatively accepted generalizations about economic phenomena
that can be used to predict the consequences of changes in

The Space Race Essay
The years after World War II was a time of great scientific and technological advancements. With
these advancements came great tension and rivalry between the United States and the former
Union of Soviet Socialists Republic (USSR). The biggest rivalry between the two superpowers
was the advancement in space technology. In 1952, the International Geophysical Year (IGY)
was established in which scientists stated that in the time between July 1, 1957 and December
31, 1958, solar activity would be at a high point. The IGY made it so that both the US and the
USSR became determined to be the first to reach space, and so the space race was born. During
the space race, the USSR made many launches that were very advanced and superior to the US....

This launch was extraordinary because it put the first living mammal into space. This satellite was
much heavier than Sputnik 1, having two cabins, one for the equipment and controls and another
for Laika, the dog. Laika s cabin provided her with oxygen, food, water and allowed the dog
enough room to lie down and stand (Siddiqi). It was predicted that Laika would live for ten days,
but due to thermal problems inside the satellite she only survived for about two. At the time of
Sputnik 2, there was no mention of the US even trying to send any living organism into space
because they were still having trouble with regular satellite launches. This launch not only further
emphasized the Soviet Union s superiority to the United States, but it also provided scientists with
the first data of a living organism in space and foreshadowed the future in human space travel. By
the anniversary of Sputnik 1, it seemed like the United States were catching up to the Soviet Union
in terms of satellites launched. The US had now launched three Explorers and one Vanguard while
the USSR had launched three Sputniks. Although the US had launched more satellite than the
USSR, Sputnik 1 weighed more than all four of the US satellites combined and Sputnik 3 weighed
and astonishing 2,950 pounds. The three US launches couldn t compare to the Soviet Union s
launches because the Sputnik launches were so much more technologically advanced, once

Literary Merit Analysis
In enjoyment reading, the sole purpose of the book is to entertain the reader. In a literary merit,
the book may have a number of purposes. It may entertain, give a message or suggestion about
the current society, or various other purposes. Books read for enjoyment are oftentimes fun to
read and are appealing to a wide audience. However, these books are read by a majority of people
only one time through because they have a simple message that is easy to understand. On the
other hand, literary merit books may not be quite enjoyable in the same way that fun books are,
but they can be enjoyable in the sense that they have a deeper meaning. Many people may read the
same literary merit and can get several different messages from it along with... Show more content

George Orwell succeeded in creating a story that gives a very bleak and possible future. Since
the future is unknown, there are a near infinite possibilities for stories, each as possible as the
next. 1984 offers a different kind of look into the future. The majority of books that depict the
future show a hopeful version of the future. Even other dystopian stories give the characters
hope in some way shape or form. 1984 depicts a future with no hope and any hope that is given
is immediately taken away. If you are a man Winston, you are the last man. Your kind is extinct;
we are the inheritors. Do you understand that you are alone? You are outside history, you are
nonexistent. (Orwell 270). O Brien s words in this passage take any hope from Winston that men
might prevail over the Party. This bleak portrayal is Orwell s way of warning that the only way to
stop this future is to prevent it before it happens. For once this future comes to be, there is no
stopping it.
The Name of the Wind was written in the fantasy genre. Fantasy books are very common and
have many similarities. While The Name of the Wind has many distinct elements that make it a
story, it also has many similar aspects of fantasy, such as a form of magic, tales of adventure,
powerful characters, etc. Unlike 1984, The Name of the Wind isn t very unique from the other
stories in the genre and these books are not relevant to society

The Free Trade Area Of The Americas
The Free Trade Area of the Americas
Introduction
The Free Trade Area of the Americas agreement (FTAA), was first introduced in 1994 with
intentions of finalizing the deal by 2005. However, the agreement failed to pass due to the
backlash of some of the Latin American countries involved, especially Venezuela and its
President of the time, Hugo Chavez, who held a strong vocal opposition of the free trade
agreement (The Defeat of the FTAA). In this paper I will discuss the history of the FTAA, about
how it started, why it did not happen, and if it will be possible in the future. I will give my
opinion on whether the FTAA will ever come back and if the current free trade deals will help or
hurt a possible resurgence of the FTAA.

Australian Food Research Paper
Australia has a large number of both immigrate Indians as well as Indians who were born in
Australia, making the total population of Indians in Australia nearly 1 million. With this large
number of Australians with Indian background it comes to no surprise that India has influenced
Australian food habits immensely. With the Indian population being so great, Australiaas seen many
Indian restaurants open their doors for non Indians and even influence restaurants that are not

of a classic Indian dish that can be found in almost every restaurant is Butter Chicken. This much

BALANCED SCORECARD: quality, time, and the theory of constraints
19 1Quality costs (including the opportunity cost of lost sales because of poor quality) can be as
much as 10% to 20% of sales revenues of many organizations. Quality improvement programs can
result in substantial cost savings and higher revenues and market share from increased customer
satisfaction.
19 2Quality of design refers to how closely the characteristics of a product or service meet the
needs and wants of customers. Conformance quality refers to the performance of a product or
service relative to its design and product specifications.

This would have the effect of reducing both customer response time and improving on time
performance.
19 11Two reasons why lines, queues, and delays occur is (1) uncertainty about when customers
will order products or services uncertainty causes a number of orders to be received at the same
time, causing delays, and (2) limited capacity and bottlenecks a bottleneck is an operation where
the work to be performed approaches or exceeds the available capacity.
19 12No. Adding a product when capacity is constrained and the timing of customer orders is
uncertain causes delays in delivering all existing products. If the revenue losses from delays in
delivering existing products and the increase in carrying costs of the existing products exceed the
positive contribution earned by the product that was added, then it is not worthwhile to make and
sell the new product, despite its positive contribution margin. The chapter describes the negative
effects (negative externalities) that one product can have on others when products share common
manufacturing facilities.
19 13The three main measures used in the theory of constraints are the following:
1.throughput contribution equal to revenues minus direct material cost of the goods sold;
2.investments equal to the sum of materials costs in direct materials, work in process and finished
goods inventories, research and development costs, and costs of equipment and buildings;
3.operating costs equal to

Legalize The Benefits Of Legalizing Marijuana
The current US policy is, marijuana is an illegal substance to grow, posses, and sell. For the first
time in the United States history, a majority of Americans favor legalizing marijuana. Opponents of
legalization argue that making marijuana use legal will lead to an increase in drug related societal
problems.
The US should create a new policy to legalize marijuana. Legalizing it would increase tax revenue
and help increase employment. It would reduce inmates in jails and prisons. With criminal justice
reform it will decriminalize the substance.

Baptism During The Early Church And Medieval Eras Essay
Baptism in the Early Church and Medieval Eras All Christians know about the Great Commission,
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I
am with you always, to the end of the age (Matthew 28:19 20, English Standard Version). In that
command, Jesustells us to baptize in the name of the Trinity. What does the word baptismmean?
Baptimsa and sometimes baptismos, the Greek word origin of baptism , can translate to immersion
or bathing without any religious implications (McGowan, 2014). Nearly every Christian church
practices baptism with a religious implication; however, they do not agree on God s activity in, the
qualifications for admitting a person to, and methods of administering baptism. For instance, many
churches do not baptize people until they become adults and make a profession of faith, while
others encourage baptizing an infant soon after they are born. The practices and philosophy for
baptism changed throughout its use in the New Testament, the Early Church, and the Medieval era.
New Testament Views of Baptism Sproul articulates, the baptism of John and the New Testament
rite that we celebrate in the Christian community are not identical (2014). The type of baptism John
did was introduced in the Old Testament and directed to the Jewish nation. Between the Old
Testament and the New Testament,

the most used products regardless of the business size due to its benefits (Occupytheory 2015).
However; before adopting virtualization companies should know in addition to the advantages of
virtualization the disadvantages associated with its adoption and then to decide whether to adopt it
or not. Main advantages and disadvantages of virtualization of virtualization are illustrated in table

The Beliefs Of The Church, The Laity, And Society
Dear Fathers, we should listen again to the lament of God proclaimed by the prophet Jeremiah:
they have turned their back to me (2:27). Let us turn again towards the Lord! (Sarah qtd Cardinal
Sarah s Top 5 Quotes from Sacra Liturgia 2016 np). In a time when tradition is seen as something
distasteful and backwards, people have become increasing focused inwards, on themselves. In the
Catholic world, this has become increasingly apparent in the way Massis celebrated. In order to
combat this self focused mindset of the world, a return to the historical orientation known as ad
orientem would benefit the Church, the laity, and society. Ad orientem is one of two liturgical
orientations used in liturgical Christianity, and historically,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While the architectural reasoning for ad orientem is clear, there is a deeper reasoning underlying
this orientation. At the heart of ad orientem lies the symbolism of Christ returning from the east
with the rising sun. The parts of the Mass that are directed to God are said facing east, towards
Christ s return, and the parts directed towards the congregation are proclaimed towards the
assembled faithful. When the priest and the people face the same direction, with the priest at the
head of the assembly, he is fulfilling his job to represent them before God, and to intercede for his
flock. At the same time, the laity unite with the priest by facing the same direction, presenting
their prayers in union with the sacrifice he offers on their behalf. With this common orientation,
the worship of the entire church is focused vertically, towards God, instead of horizontally, where
the priest and the people appear to be talking to each other, instead of speaking together, to God.
By shrouding the personality of the celebrant, ad orientem facilitates both the priest s and the
congregation s worship better. Without having to think about the people in the pews watching
him, the priest is free to enter more deeply into the Mass. Likewise, with the priest s face
obscured, the focus shifts away from the particular priest s personality, and back to the action of the
Mass. People naturally watch the faces of others, and this biological instinct doesn t cease the

An American poet once stated, Great literature is simply language charged with meaning to the
utmost possible degree (Pound). Every piece of literature has an impactful underlying meaning
and can be interpreted into universal symbols, motifs, and patterns. Archetypal Criticism is a
theory based off common myths, images, and symbols in literature. The definition of an
archetypal can be defined as a very typical example of a certain person or thing (Davidson). With
that being said, readers can apply Archetypal Criticism to In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia

Essay On Racial Disparities
Experiencing racial disparities can permit an increasing level of stress over the years, yet buffering
mechanisms can be used to decrease the impact of adverse experiences. Based on Brody et al.
(2006) study, results indicated that race related stress from allostatic load was not significant for
youth with high emotional support. Accessing emotional supportive networks of family and peers
can help readjust behavior and counterbalance cognitive trajectories that reduce anxiety and stress.
Another buffering tool can be offered from a parent or caregiver, by providing an informative
introduction of discrimination. Comprehension of societal variances allows children to obtain
cognitive skills, which they are able to build awareness that can help distinguish discriminatory
treatment and gain a greater perception of others cognition (Bynum et al. 2014). Also,
understanding one s environment may allow for more emotional control and self regulation

Analysis Of The Movie The Black Swan
The Black Swan is a movie about a woman named Nina Sayers, who was a ballerina at an
esteemed ballet company. The newest production the company was undertaking was a ballet
called Swan Lake. Swan Lake was about a princess, the Swan Queen, who was turned into an
evil Black Swan. In the movie, the role of the Swan Queen was highly sought after among the
ballerinas, especially since the former principal dancer, Beth Macintyre, was recently let go
from the company because of her age. Nina was also very interested in the role, and having been
with the company for quite some time, auditioned for it. After she completed her audition, she
received mixed feedback from the director, Thomas Leroy, about her performance. He told her
that she was an excellent dancer, but she was also too rigid and stiff. He advised her to try to
enjoy herself and add more personality in her dance instead of focusing, primarily, on her
technique. His critique disappointed Nina because she desperately wanted to impress him. To
make matters worse, she began to feel unsure of herself when a new dancer, Lily, arrived at the
company. She especially felt threatened by Lily s presence after Thomas compared Lily s free
and relaxed dance style with Nina s controlled and technical style. Eventually, Nina attempted to
become more bold, both in her dancing and personal life, in an effort to win him over. As all of
this was taking place, Nina began to experience strange visions consisting of disturbing

Correctional Institutions Case Study Essay
Correctional Institutions have a strict budget. Therefore, implementing new programs is heavily
reliable on how the institutions budget can be relocated to provide funds for the new program.
This paper will analyse the difficulties and challenges one faces when trying to pilot a new
program. The new programis a anger management counseling program that will require $350,000
and two new counselors. However, the program has shown impressive results in other correctional
institutions.
The first hurdle that has to be taken is to convince a senior leadership team to pursue the program,
knowing very well that some of them are sceptical and do not take the program very seriously,
since they think that the program that will lose interest very soon. In order to convince this team
one could show them studies that investigated the results of the program. If this program produced
impressive positive results in other facilities, there would be a couple of studies that supported this
conclusion. One could also evaluate the population of the facility and seeing that it was similar to
the populations that benefitted from the new program, would argue that it is applicable to this
specific facility. Further, one could also look at the recidivismrates of those offenders that
completed the program. If the recidivism decreased it could be argued that this program would help

Biblical Heroism In Treasure Island By Robert Louis Stevenson
Noah. Moses. Joshua. Esther. What might all these people share in common? All were heroes in
light of the biblical understanding of the term, heroism. Matthew 20:28 states, Just as the Son of
Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (NIV). This
verse embodies one of the components of a true heros character. The biblical heroes mentioned
above were humble, led others by serving, counted others needs more significant than their own,
and obeyed God s call for their lives. Of course, they were sinners and still stumbled and fell, but
their lives demonstrate true biblical heroism in their strivings to honor God and serve others.
Noah obeyed God s command to build an ark and rescued his family and the animals from the
Flood. Moses led the grumbling people of Israel out of Egypt and into the desert after continually
pleading with Pharaoh to let them go leave Egypt. Joshua listened to God s instruction and led the
Israelites around Jericho s walls until they came tumbling down. Uninvited, Esther came into King
Nebuchadnezzar s presence, asking him and Haman to dinner where she would eventually expose
Haman s evil plans and save the Jews. In Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, the main
characters, Long John Silverand Jim Hawkins, do not measure up in comparison to this biblical
standard of heroism. Therefore, neither Silver nor Jim are heroes in the biblical light of heroism.

Man s Search For Meaning Reflection
Man s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl was an empowering, impactful, and memorable
book. The brevity of the novel was refreshing and allowed me to purely understand what he
intended. To me, Part One of this book was similar to the book Night by Elie Wiesel. They were
both very honest and raw in their depiction of the holocaust and concentration camps. I enjoyed
both books, they were insightful and opened my eyes to the nature of humanity. One specifically
memorable thing that Frankl said was that both the people creating the gas chambers and the
ones entering them were one in the same. Both books made me think, but Man s Search for
Meaning was more reflective and encompassing. Reflection When reading Man s Search for
Meaning, the quote man is more than psyche and the concept of logotherapy particularly
interested me. I have never heard of either. Both of these topics peaked my interest. Man is more
than psyche At first, I did not understand the simplicity of what Frankl meant by, man is more
than psyche. I believed that there was something more to the quote, but I found that there is not.
It is just what it says, man is more than psyche. Man has many features and characteristics, the
psyche is an important one, but basing man on just psyche is unfair to humanity. While, I agree
with Frankl, I can see why some would believe that the psyche is what defines man. The psyche
influences a large part of our daily lives. Our emotions, thoughts, and actions are influenced by
our psyche; these are often the defining characteristics of a person. However, I believe there is
something that separates every one of us and defines humans. This is one s life purpose; it is
rooted deep within us. Regardless of if we realize it, the life purpose is always within us, it is a
matter of acknowledging it. It sets us apart from one another and individualizes us beyond our
psyche. Another thing paired with life purpose is responsibility. One thing that Frankl says is that
freedom must be paired with responsibility. In this I believe Frankl is saying that the freedom of
life is congruent to having a responsibility of keeping the life purpose alive. I agree with Frankl. I
think part of living is to be responsible in

The Role Of Man In Jurassic Park
The theme of man playing the role of god is prominent in the science fiction genre. Typically, man
tampers with a power they do not fully understand and as a result, their creation leads to their
eventual downfall. The power typically comes in the form of technological advancement. This
theme is particularly illustrated in Jurassic Park, where the revival of an ancient specie threatens the
extinction of the humanrace. Jurassic Park centers around a group of scientists bringing back the
dinosaurs from extinction, using prehistoric DNA stored in amber. Dr. Ellie Sattler(Paleobotanist),
Ian Malcolm(Mathematician), Dr. Alan Grant (Paleotologist), Donald Gennaro(Lawyer) are invited
to tour the island owned by John Hammond, near Costa Rica, which is populated by genetically
engineered dinosaurs. As they toured the island, Dennis Nedry (Computer Technician) steals some
dinosauregg embryo after shutting down the parks security system. This resulted in the release
of the dinosaurs as they ran amuck the park, which forces the visitors to fight for their survival
as they try to restore the power and escape the island. Jurassic Park is a prime example of the
recurring theme of man playing the role of god, since their transgression into an unknown realm of
knowledge endangers their lives. In the movie, Ian Malcom makes the statement God creates
dinosaurs, God destroys dinosaurs, God creates man, man destroys God, man creates dinosaurs
which is met by Dr. Ellie Sattler s remark of

symptoms. Positive symptoms are so named because of the presence of altered behaviors, such as
delusions, hallucinations (usually auditory), extreme emotions, excited motor activity, and
incoherent thoughts and speech. (1,2) In contrast, negative symptoms are described as a lack of
behaviors, such as emotion, speech, social interaction, and action. (1,2) These symptoms are by no
means concrete. Not all schizophrenic patients will exhibit all or even a majority of these
symptoms, and there is some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(2) However, there are some problems with this evidense. Amphetamines only mimic the positive
symptoms of schizophrenia. They do not produce any of the negative symptoms. Likewise, anti
psychotic drugs are only affective on the positive symptoms of the disease. There is still some
evidense that schizophrenics do posess higher levels of dopamine, however, these increases are only
found in the striatum of the brain (7). The striatum is a region of the brain that receives its inputs
from and outputs to the cortex. Injury to the striatum results in problems with intiation and control
of motor behavior. (9) Also, there is evidence that the prefrontalcortex produces lower levels of
dopamine. (4) The prefrontal cortex is involved in the organization and coordination of information
to and from the cortex. (7)
The major support and refutation of the dopamine hypothesis has come from the examination of
dopamine receptors in these regions of the brain. There are two main types of dopamine
receptors, D1 and D2. However, within the category of D2 receptors, there are three subtypes, D2,
D3, and D4. (5) Through PET scan analysis of dopamine usage in the brain and post mordum
molecular analysis of brain tissue, researcher were able to determine relative levels of dopamine
receptors in patients with schizophrenia compared to non schizophrenics. Overall analysis of

My Tribe Beliefs
My Tribe and Their Beliefs and Their Consents
It would be devastating if my tribe was to find out years later that they were involved in a scientific
study that they knew nothing about. For most tribal communities, it is important to respect their
culture and their beliefs. Scientists do not have the right to offend a tribal community, even if it was
unintentional and due to ignorance regarding the taboo topics within the tribe from the researchers.
For many reasons, it is important to inform the tribe and the individuals who donate their DNA
samples exactly what their samples will be used for. Tribal communities are unlike many modern
communities. Tribal communities carry much pride in their history, their culture, and their beliefs.

What their samples were actually used for, well that was completely different. Without their
permission, the DNA samples were used to study topics that are considered taboo within the
Havasupai tribe such as mental illness, migration, and inbreeding. There were many issues raised
in the Havasupai case. To begin with, informed consent is an issue because samples were used
without complete consent. Researchers only received consent for using the samples to study
diabetes, or that is what the tribe members were told. Another issue raised in this case was
migration studies, which is a topic that concerns may tribes because the scientific evidence based
on their genetic research may go against certain tribal beliefs. Each tribe has their own beliefs
based on their origin and migration studies may cause these tribes trouble. Scientists may be
messing around with tribal history in the name of science. This would, without a doubt, raise
ethical concerns. Stigmatism of the tribe was another issue raised in this case. Measuring the
interbreeding coefficient causes harm and distress to the tribal community. During this study,
researchers gained illegal access to medical records. Researchers did not have permission to
access the medical records from the tribal officials or the clinical administrators. This is an
invasion of privacy. It is also important to note that even though individuals within the study were
not named, naming the tribe risked the identification of these individuals. In a small community, it
is not hard to figure out who someone is based on genetic information that was released. The final
issue that was raised in the Havasupai case was how to control their samples. When a tribe
decides to enter a study, they must first decide if they ate going to enforce their control over the
samples and how they are used. If they decide to

Whenever possible we will recreate or reclaim original materials to maintain the integrity of the
original Pyramid. We will coat the new Great Pyramid with our patented MagicShellв„ў product.
This product will seal the stones protecting Khufu s Pyramid from any further damages created
by the environment. This product was invented by MummyMovers in 1990 and is a sealant that
allows natural resource material to repel elements like smog, sand storms, or acid rain from
their damaging effects while maintaining an undetectable appearance. The usual cost of the
application is 10% plus cost, but we will apply it free of charge as part of our contribution to this
historical endeavor. Our true passion is preserving history and we would like to help Egypt
preserve this national treasure for everyone to enjoy for eternity. We estimate this project will
take just under 10 years to complete. The cost of the multi purpose facility, roadway and railway,
dismantling and rebuilding of Khufu s Pyramid, as well as other costs such as utilities, temporary
housing, equipment, equipment storage facilities, and salaries, less marketing subsidies is
estimated at $758 billion USD (4,366,000 Egyptian Pounds). We are proposing a cost plus

The Ethics Of A Savior Sibling Essay
Kant claims that the human should act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your
own person or in the person of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a
means . Critics of savior sibling have argued that the procedure violates this concept. They argue
that there is something fundamentally wrong with parents having children for the wrong
reasons. In the case of a savior sibling, the parents are acting unethically by having a child for the
purpose of saving the life of a second child and not for the sake of the child being born. This
raises concern for the welfare of the child being created. One must agree that conceiving a child
can be wrong or done for the wrong reasons. Thus, first, it must be firmly established that the
creation of a savior sibling would be a wrong reason because the child will solely be treated as a
means. This argument against savior sibling is misleading as the child is not treated solely as a
means. And the Kantian concept does not prevent treating people as a means some time. In fact,
people are treated as means all the time, one example is used by Christine Overall, a critic of
savior sibling, arguing that her students use her as a mean semester after semester, simple to
acquire an education (86). John Harris argues that we all treat people as means perfectly
innocuously much of the time. In medical context, anyone who receives a blood transfusion has
used the blood donor as a means to their own end (Harris

Symptoms And Treatment Of Lyme Disease
ntroduction
Lyme disease has been the most commonly reported vector borne illness in the United States since
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention started reporting it in 1991 [1]. It should be noted
that Lyme disease does not occur everywhere in the US, and is heavily concentrated in upper
Midwest and northeast United States [1]. This report has been compiled to provide
recommendations for antimicrobial prophylactic treatment of Lyme disease once a patient
encounters a tick bite.
Lyme disease is a multisystem inflammatory disorder caused by the spirochete Borrelia
burgdorferi, which is transmitted by Ixodes dammini. [3]. I. dammini is commonly known as and
referred to as the deer tick. Lyme disease can affect many organ systems ... Show more content on

Although a vaccine does exist, its cost and multiple doses needed to achieve immunity have limited
its acceptability by the medical community [20, 21]. Antimicrobial therapy has been at the forefront
of research in trying to identify if prophylactic treatment is necessary, what drug is most successful,
and what dosing is most appropriate.
Antimicrobial Prophylaxis
In 1992 Shapiro et al. published their research informing providers prophylactic antimicrobial
treatment is not routinely indicated [2] There were a total of 387 patients in the controlled trial,
203 patients assigned to receive amoxicillin and 182 were given a placebo [2]. Either 250mg of
amoxicillin or a placebo was given to subjects three times a day for ten days. 15 subjects dropped
out and 7 subjects had already shown positive serologic testing to B. burgdorferi and were
therefore dismissed from the study [2]. Out of 173 subjects who received the placebo only two
developed symptomatic infection with B. burgdorferi; whereas, none of the 192 subjects who were
given amoxicillin showed any infection. They concluded the risk of actually becoming infected
with B. burgdorferi is so small that the prophylactic use of antibiotics does not make a clinical
significance and should not be used. The authors also indicated that most deer ticks are actually not
infected with B. burgdorferi, which

The Monument Of The Tomb Of Emperor Qin
The monument of the Tomb of Emperor Qin tells us about early Chinese religious beliefs and
practices. The mound itself remains unexcavated except for some test trenches, but researchers

emperor occupied in life. It was not taken into account the seriously until the discovery of pits

The Daoism emerged out of the metaphysical teachings attributed to Laozi. Daoist philosophy
stresses an intuitive awareness, nurtured by harmonious contact with nature, and shuns everything
artificial. Daoists seek to follow the universal path or principle, called the Dao, whose features
cannot be described but only suggested through analogies. Dao is said to be like water, always
yielding but eventually wearing away the hard stone that does not yield. The strengths in Daoists,
comes from flexibility and inaction. Historically, Daoist principles encouraged retreat from society
in favor a personal cultivar of the ying and yang. This making a perfect balance between yang,
which are the active masculine energy, and yin, passive feminine energy. Confucianismdiscuss their
role in Chinese society by empathy for suffering, pursuit of morality and justice, respect for
ancient ceremonies, and adherence to traditional social relationships, such as those between
parent and child, elder and younger sibling, husband and wife, and ruler and subject. Stressing
that the deference to age and rank that is at the heart of the Confucian social order brings a
reciprocal responsibility. For example, a king s legitimacy depends on the goodwill of his people.
A ruler should share his joys with his subjects and will know his laws are unjust if they bring
suffering to the people. Confucianism had a profound impact on

Essay on Using Steroids to Gain the Perfect Body
Using Steroids to Gain the Perfect Body
In our days, most people have set the goal and dream to have the perfect body. They believe by
having this image, they will be popular and/or attractive. People want to achieve the body that
they desire, like a super star, a hero in a Hollywood movie, a strong soldier, and an Olympic
athlete. However, what are the extent people will go to get the perfect body? The biggest problem
for those who dream to have a beautiful body today, as many people know, is the consumption of
steroids. It is amazing what people and athletes will do to enhance their performance, strength and
muscle size by taking steroids. Whether right or wrong people who use steroids to become the
fastest and strongest will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These steroids are made to emphasize and promote muscle growth but without the masculinizing the
user as much as testosterone does (Silverstein, p.18). Anabolic steroids were first used to help
World War II victims put on weight at the end of the war. Anabolic steroids were intended for the
sick people, but instead of this, healthy people often abuse these steroids because they want to gain
muscle (Morris, p.230).
There are three major benefits from steroid use and they are: first, athletes will attain a greater
increase in lean muscle mass and strength when it is used with a combination of hard training and
the drug; second, the athlete s body suffers less breakdown as this decrease in muscle breakdown
and recovery time permits more frequent training sessions at higher intensity and for longer
periods of time (Lukas, p.7); and third but not least benefit, the increased aggressiveness they are
believed to simulate as this increased aggressiveness may drive athletes to train harder and longer
without the usual fatigue (Rogak, p.11). Other positive effects of using steroids are increases in:
storage of muscle glycogen; blood volume; a general boasting of the immune system; and the
reduction of body fat percentage. The effects are maintained as long as the athlete continues the
steroid use (Silverstein, p.17).
Unfortunately, anabolic steroids have many side effects. Some short term side effects include high

2.Cleaning Log Data
In the log data, the entries in the log file for the unwanted view of image, graphics and multimedia
by the users are removed. With the important entries, a web log file may consist of certain
undesirable rather useless data which has nothing to do with the mining procedure. Therefore, it is
imperative to remove those irrelevant entries from the log file. There are three kinds of irrelevant
or redundant data needed to clean: accessorial resources embedded in HTML

Switchback Changed My Life-Personal Narrative
As we were loading up to leave for Switchback Raceway on February 8th, 2015, I was under the
impression that it was just going to be another typical day dedicated to dirtbikes. Little did I
know that I would be waiting by my boyfriend s bedside for the next 8 days at UPMC
Presbyterian in Pittsburgh. I ve always admired Hank, he stole my heart from the start with his
shy yet bold personality. But, after watching him endure a potentially life threatening injury, he s
more than just admirable; he s one of the strongest people I know and I will be forever grateful
for having him in my life. After watching him hit the ground after losing control of his dirt bike
from 25ft in the air, I sprinted over to him and when I got there he was looking up to me smiling,

Oedipus Heroic Qualities
I decided to write on The Tragic Hero In Oedipus Tyrannus because I know that there is a hero
within the tragedy that he suffers. The epic poem know for his downfall by avoiding fate, which
in turn can not be avoided, can be reintroduced as a gift from the Gods. Oedipus can be seen as
giving the people of Thebes a man with heroic qualities and acting upon these qualities, versus
being the result of a Laius curse. I will prove that journey is the real reason for the epic poem, with
the process of foreshadows helping design the conclusion of the complete heroic persona.
Oedipus has a the noble qualities of a hero to include courage, fearlessness, selflessness, and strong
character. There a times in which his actions reflected these traits of being a great heroic example
to the people of Thebes. There are few instances that will be sampled from the epic drama to draw
the attention that the fate placed upon Oedipus make him more of a hero than a fulfilled curse. ...

Cupcake Stands
Making a cupcake stand by yourself is not hard at all. They can be made from cardboard, plastic,
metal, or glass. Cardboard DIY cupcakes stands are probably the easiest and quickest to make so
that is the style we will use for this example. First, you must decide how many tiers you want for
your cupcakestand and decide what shape you would like them to be. Stands with circular tiers
are very common so we will use that as an example. Building your stand with, say, five tiers will
require five different size cardboard circles, with the largest circle at the base of the cupcake stand
and the smallest circle at the top. It s important to know that each tiers base should be small enough
compared to the next tier lower to allow the cupcakes enough room to sit on the ledge without their
tops being squashed by the next tier higher. Two inches should be sufficient, making each
succeeding tier four total inches smaller.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of Martha C. Nussbaum s Anger And Forgiveness
Sometimes people can be angry or furious. However, when the time passes they do not even
remember their anger. Should they stay angry or should they let it go as Martha C. Nussbaum says
in the Anger and Forgiveness book? To answer this question, the notion of anger needs to be
explored. For instance, according to Nussbaum, in the Middle Realm , angeris the domain of life ,
and affects the way we spend our lives (p.138). Nussbaum says that we mostly deal with people
who we meet temporarily; it can be at work, at the store or on the street, but we do it on a regular
basis. Therefore, as the author points out, we do not get into a deep relationship with these people
in this realm, and this is a short term situation. Also, Nussbaum says that she finds it easy to
transition herself in a non anger situation with people who she loves. On the other hand, she finds it
harder to transition from this feeling when dealing with irritating strangers (p. 139).
Furthermore, the author agrees with the Stoics that mixture of heterogeneous elements is not worth
to pay attention to. She gives some examples of the heterogeneous elements, which could be
improper termination of employment, negligent medical treatment, harassment on the job, theft,
etc. (p.139). Instead of being angry, Nussbaum suggests Transition (before) or Transition Anger
(after). She also indicates that there is no point in getting further embroiled, mentally and
emotionally (p.141). Indeed, this recommendation is essential for a business world where people
have a tendency to get frustrated fast. By applying Nussbaum s techniques of controlling the anger,
businesses can not only improve the working environment within their companies, but also prevent
customers from being angry in various situations.
A good example of possible applications of Nussbaum s anger techniques is demonstrated in the
article BA says most flights running; angry passengers face delays. People s anger and an inability
of the British Airways company to address the problem lead to negative customers experience and
damaging the company s reputation. In this case, the Middle Realm anger is described which is
usually not important. Even though people are angry, there is nothing

Kenya Vs China
Each culture proposes different characteristics pertaining to the country resided in. China and
Kenya are two countries that are on total opposite ends of each other. China is ranked one of the
most populated countries in the world, unlike Kenya. Therefore, the population amongst the two
countries greatly affects the issues regarding personal space and rules of social behavior. An
American manager would need to take immense caution when approaching a person from either of
these countries.
Personal space is considered how close in proximity another individual is from the other. In china,
residents do not abide by a personal bubble. The first thing a tourist would notice in this country is

The Development of the Centre for Migration Studies Irish Emigration Database
In 1988 the Ulster American Folk Park (UAFP) near Omagh in Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland
began to set up a computerised Irish Emigration Database (IED) in its library. This was a ground
breaking project at that time and was immediately beset by problems of all kinds, the details of
which will be explained later. By 1997 the Folk Park s library had expanded to become the Centre
for Emigration Studies and eventually the Centre for Migration Studies (CMS). The latter is now
funded jointly by the Scotch Irish Trust of Ulster in partnership with DCAL (Department of
Culture, Arts Leisure) and the five Education and Library Boards of Northern Ireland. In this paper

The late John Winters (who sadly died in May 2002) managed the Database project at UAFP and
then subsequently became Database Manager at CMS. As Database Collection Manager, I have
managed the Project in Belfast from its inception until the present day. Des McMorrow was in post
as ICT Manager from October 2003 March 2004. A new ICT Manager is to be in place by July
2004.
SETTING UP AND STAFFING
The British Council funded Ms Joan Reedy, from Boston, Massachusetts, to work on the project in
Belfast during 1989/90 and Dr Katharine Brown from Virginia, and Ms Maureen Macauley, also
from Boston, during 1991/92. They all did some excellent work for the Database and were a
tremendous asset to the project. All other workers have been appointed via unemployment training
schemes.
After a year initially working at PRONI a new government training scheme was introduced to
replace the old Ace Scheme. This entailed recruiting trainees who would earn only ВЈ10 per week,
on top of their unemployment benefit. The prospects of recruiting well qualified people to process
the documents looked bleak. However, after a short while we began to build up a number of
trainees who were interested in the work.
The main Training and Employment Agency was Enterprise Ulster http:/
/www.enterpriseulster.co.uk whose head office is in Belfast. During the early years when
unemployment was high there could be 12 13 trainees at a time working at our Belfast office.

Doomed King Henry VIII
After I got this far in Doomed Queen Anne, I was just as intrigued and excited as I was when I d
first opened the book. In fact, more excitement and anticipation had built up. That, but also the
fact that I also found Anne s grip on the King s heart extremely fascinating. It was interesting to
read as Anne s intelligence continued to blossom and captivate King Henry VIII; you don t see a
king plead on his knees for a maiden very often. The book s plot, characters, and conflicts absorbed
my mind quickly as they developed intensely and the action rose between Anne and all those around
her; for instance when jealousy provoked competition between Tom Wyatt and King Henry, as they
both nonchalantly competed for Anne s heart. I was impressed all... Show more content on

It seemed extremely cruel. I couldn t feel good about reading it. This part was important in
provoking Anne s vain confidence and what lead up to her downfall. It also showed that even
King Henry VIII has desires that must be satisfied and a breaking point. A passage like this
revealed a character s feelings and true thoughts: both selfish and unselfish. On page 118, it said,
Marry me, dearest Anne! he cried, as though his heart would burst. Promise that you will be my
wife! ( Meyer 118). Just reading Anne s last few thoughts, rejoicing that she d be queen only made
me see her as ungrateful and selfish. I had hoped by then, King Henry would have truly caught
Anne s fancy; not just him faithfully clinging onto her. Anne s description and words about how
she felt about anything was an essential part of the story. Without them, the story would not have
flowed the way it did, her opinions about situations mattered quite a lot in knowing what she plans
to do and all her feeling through and through. The details all enhanced the importance of the
theme; the higher one rises, the further they have to fall, because as Anne described in the story,
her experience of how she rose in position and how she fell all the way back to the bottom and far

To My Dear And Loving Husband By Anne Bradstreet
In, To My Dear and Loving Husband, by Anne Bradstreet, we see that this poem is about a
woman that loves her husband. Love conquers all right? The overall tone of this work comes off
as love. Bradstreet shares many ways of her love with us and she wants us to know that her love is
going to be as strong when they are no more living on this earth. Anne Bradstreet expresses to the
audience her lovefor her husband in different tones. Throughout the poem, we see that Bradstreet
is comparing her love to water, and gold; but in the end is that enough? The tone of each excerpt
affects the whole message being given in, To My Dear and Loving Husband. Anne loves God, but
she also loves her husband. On line ten she says, The heavens reward thee manifold,... Show more

We see all of these throughout the poem. The passion is shown when she is comparing their
love to gold. I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold, or all the riches that the East doth
hold (226). She thinks her love for her husband is worth more then all of the rivers, creeks, lakes,
and gold in the whole world. Their love could not fill oceans. Also in, If ever two were one, then
surely we (226). She needs his love and she can not live without it. The writer thinks they could
be one. It is interesting that a Puritan would write such a love poem. Puritans are supposing to
have a relationship with God. I am surprised that she is writing something with so much emotion
in it. On line nine she states, Thy love is such I can no way repay (226). She means that the love
that her husband gives her is passionate and emotional, that there is no way that she could ever
repay him. She wants to share how great her and her husbands chemistry is and that is
endearing, because it is inspiring love. Another tone would be from Nor ought but love from thee,
give recompense, (226) she is adoring of her husband. The last two lines of this poem expresses her
endearing love. Then while we live, in love let s so persevere, that when we live no more, we may
live ever (226). If ever man were loved by wife, then thee (Bradstreet 226) shows the

The Hero s Journey In The Monomyth By Joseph Campbell
It may be hard to believe that every story follows a near identical pattern. Author Joseph Campbell
discovered a general structure for the plot of all myths and stories. He wrote about his theory in
The Hero With a Thousand Faces to educate others about this idea, which he called, The
Monomyth . Joseph Campbell, who has written many famed books in his lifetime, was a
mythologist and spent a large part of his time reading before creating this theory. The monomyth,
also known as The Heros Journey, explains in deep detail the interaction the hero has during each
phase of his journey. Joseph Campbellwas partially inspired by Carl Jung s theory of Archetypes ;
Jung believed characters had definable characteristics that could be created into... Show more

This could be a long duration of time passing or this could also be a brief moment of hesitation
before the warrior is prepared to embark on their quest. The hero often feels unsettled at the idea
of leaving their known realm, which can offput them from the given journey. Campbell explains
this as the refusal is essentially a refusal to give up what one takes to be one s own interest (59).
At this point in the journey, The hero has not yet fully committed to the journey and may still be
thinking of turning back (Vogler 11). In Lowry s novel, Jonas briefly refuse his call to adventure
when
The Chief Elder looked at Jonas with a question in her eyes. The audience watched him, too.
They were silent. For a moment he froze, consumed with despair. He didn t have it, the whatever
she had said. He didn t know what it was. Now was the moment when he would have to confess,
to say, No, I don t. I can t, and throw himself on their mercy, ask their forgiveness, to explain that

Touch Screen Technology
It s pretty safe believe everyone today, and if not everyone majority of people, have used or at
least seen some sort of touch screen technology. Whether it is via ones smartphone, GPS, or any
kiosk, touch screen technology has been on the rise since the early 1960 s. According to New
Interfaces at the Touch of a Fingertip , Touch screen technology has been the subject of research
since the early 1970s (Nichols). One may need to apply pressure to their device s screen to
activate a specific command, or instead, use anything that holds an electric charge such as human
skin. Touch technology has become very prevalent in today s world and this paper will start by
discussing the history behind touch technology, followed by further examining how two common
touch technologies, capacitive and resistive, work as well as the advantages and disadvantages
for each. Before diving into the technicality of how they work, it s important to take a look at the
history and evolution of its making. The timeline published on NPR by Nicole Cohen, A History
Of Touch Screen Technology allows one to really see the growth over the years of the development
to such technology. Air traffic control technology in 1965 by E.A Johnson is thought to have been
the first touch screen technology. A couple years later in 1965, PLATO IV terminal was used in
educational classrooms at the University of Illinois, which allowed students to answer questions via
this touch screen. We see this

______________________________________________________________________________
Abstract In this paper we have discussed about the cache and various mapping technique. Then we
shift our focus on compressed caching which is the technique that tries to decrease paging
request from secondary storage. We know that there is a big performance gap in accessing the
primary memory (RAM) and secondary storage (Disk). The Compressed caching technique
intercepts the pages to be swapped out, compresses them and stores them in pool allocated in
RAM. Hence it tries to fill the performance gap by adding new level to virtual memory hierarchy.
This paper analyze the performance of virtual memory compression. Further to avoid various
categories of cache misses we discuss different types of cache technique to achieve higher
performance. Lastly we discuss few open and challenging issues faced in various cache optimization
techniques.

  • 2. The Methodology Of Islamic Economics And Positive Economics Introduction Methodology of economics has been an essential part in constructing the fundamental economic theories and hypotheses. It has been a subject of research by economists and become their interest in answering empirical problems of human beings. It becomes a main framework of positivists in developing their thought on economic system. The methodology also utilized in developing Islamic economic to build self and distinct system than the existing conventional economic due to several differentiations of its worldview and primary sources. The differences in sources and characteristics between two disciplines lead to a different methodological framework. This study will attempt to discuss the distinction between the methodology of Islamic economics and positive economics. The study will start from defining each system, followed by comparing the similarity of the methodology, and finally contrasting of both methods. The Definitions There are two descriptions of definition from each system. Siddiqi (1992) notes in Chapra (2000) that the definition of Islamic economics is The Muslim thinkers response to the economic challenges of their times. In this endeavor, they were aided by the Quran and the Sunnah as well as by reason and experience. The definition of economic as a positive science as revealed by Friedman (1966) that it is a body of tentatively accepted generalizations about economic phenomena that can be used to predict the consequences of changes in ... • 3. The Space Race Essay The years after World War II was a time of great scientific and technological advancements. With these advancements came great tension and rivalry between the United States and the former Union of Soviet Socialists Republic (USSR). The biggest rivalry between the two superpowers was the advancement in space technology. In 1952, the International Geophysical Year (IGY) was established in which scientists stated that in the time between July 1, 1957 and December 31, 1958, solar activity would be at a high point. The IGY made it so that both the US and the USSR became determined to be the first to reach space, and so the space race was born. During the space race, the USSR made many launches that were very advanced and superior to the US.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This launch was extraordinary because it put the first living mammal into space. This satellite was much heavier than Sputnik 1, having two cabins, one for the equipment and controls and another for Laika, the dog. Laika s cabin provided her with oxygen, food, water and allowed the dog enough room to lie down and stand (Siddiqi). It was predicted that Laika would live for ten days, but due to thermal problems inside the satellite she only survived for about two. At the time of Sputnik 2, there was no mention of the US even trying to send any living organism into space because they were still having trouble with regular satellite launches. This launch not only further emphasized the Soviet Union s superiority to the United States, but it also provided scientists with the first data of a living organism in space and foreshadowed the future in human space travel. By the anniversary of Sputnik 1, it seemed like the United States were catching up to the Soviet Union in terms of satellites launched. The US had now launched three Explorers and one Vanguard while the USSR had launched three Sputniks. Although the US had launched more satellite than the USSR, Sputnik 1 weighed more than all four of the US satellites combined and Sputnik 3 weighed and astonishing 2,950 pounds. The three US launches couldn t compare to the Soviet Union s launches because the Sputnik launches were so much more technologically advanced, once ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It may entertain, give a message or suggestion about the current society, or various other purposes. Books read for enjoyment are oftentimes fun to read and are appealing to a wide audience. However, these books are read by a majority of people only one time through because they have a simple message that is easy to understand. On the other hand, literary merit books may not be quite enjoyable in the same way that fun books are, but they can be enjoyable in the sense that they have a deeper meaning. Many people may read the same literary merit and can get several different messages from it along with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... George Orwell succeeded in creating a story that gives a very bleak and possible future. Since the future is unknown, there are a near infinite possibilities for stories, each as possible as the next. 1984 offers a different kind of look into the future. The majority of books that depict the future show a hopeful version of the future. Even other dystopian stories give the characters hope in some way shape or form. 1984 depicts a future with no hope and any hope that is given is immediately taken away. If you are a man Winston, you are the last man. Your kind is extinct; we are the inheritors. Do you understand that you are alone? You are outside history, you are nonexistent. (Orwell 270). O Brien s words in this passage take any hope from Winston that men might prevail over the Party. This bleak portrayal is Orwell s way of warning that the only way to stop this future is to prevent it before it happens. For once this future comes to be, there is no stopping it. The Name of the Wind was written in the fantasy genre. Fantasy books are very common and have many similarities. While The Name of the Wind has many distinct elements that make it a story, it also has many similar aspects of fantasy, such as a form of magic, tales of adventure, powerful characters, etc. Unlike 1984, The Name of the Wind isn t very unique from the other stories in the genre and these books are not relevant to society ... The Free Trade Area Of The Americas The Free Trade Area of the Americas Introduction The Free Trade Area of the Americas agreement (FTAA), was first introduced in 1994 with intentions of finalizing the deal by 2005. However, the agreement failed to pass due to the backlash of some of the Latin American countries involved, especially Venezuela and its President of the time, Hugo Chavez, who held a strong vocal opposition of the free trade agreement (The Defeat of the FTAA). In this paper I will discuss the history of the FTAA, about how it started, why it did not happen, and if it will be possible in the future. If the revenue losses from delays in delivering existing products and the increase in carrying costs of the existing products exceed the positive contribution earned by the product that was added, then it is not worthwhile to make and sell the new product, despite its positive contribution margin. The chapter describes the negative effects (negative externalities) that one product can have on others when products share common manufacturing facilities. 19 13The three main measures used in the theory of constraints are the following: 1.throughput contribution equal to revenues minus direct material cost of the goods sold; 2.investments equal to the sum of materials costs in direct materials, work in process and finished goods inventories, research and development costs, and costs of equipment and buildings; 3.operating costs equal to ... Baptism During The Early Church And Medieval Eras Essay Baptism in the Early Church and Medieval Eras All Christians know about the Great Commission, Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age (Matthew 28:19 20, English Standard Version). In that command, Jesustells us to baptize in the name of the Trinity. What does the word baptismmean? Baptimsa and sometimes baptismos, the Greek word origin of baptism , can translate to immersion or bathing without any religious implications (McGowan, 2014). Nearly every Christian church practices baptism with a religious implication; however, they do not agree on God s activity in, the qualifications for admitting a person to, and methods of administering baptism. For instance, many churches do not baptize people until they become adults and make a profession of faith, while others encourage baptizing an infant soon after they are born. The practices and philosophy for baptism changed throughout its use in the New Testament, the Early Church, and the Medieval era. New Testament Views of Baptism Sproul articulates, the baptism of John and the New Testament rite that we celebrate in the Christian community are not identical (2014). • 12. The Beliefs Of The Church, The Laity, And Society Dear Fathers, we should listen again to the lament of God proclaimed by the prophet Jeremiah: they have turned their back to me (2:27). Let us turn again towards the Lord! (Sarah qtd Cardinal Sarah s Top 5 Quotes from Sacra Liturgia 2016 np). In a time when tradition is seen as something distasteful and backwards, people have become increasing focused inwards, on themselves. In the Catholic world, this has become increasingly apparent in the way Massis celebrated. In order to combat this self focused mindset of the world, a return to the historical orientation known as ad orientem would benefit the Church, the laity, and society. Ad orientem is one of two liturgical orientations used in liturgical Christianity, and historically,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the architectural reasoning for ad orientem is clear, there is a deeper reasoning underlying this orientation. At the heart of ad orientem lies the symbolism of Christ returning from the east with the rising sun. The parts of the Mass that are directed to God are said facing east, towards Christ s return, and the parts directed towards the congregation are proclaimed towards the assembled faithful. When the priest and the people face the same direction, with the priest at the head of the assembly, he is fulfilling his job to represent them before God, and to intercede for his flock. At the same time, the laity unite with the priest by facing the same direction, presenting their prayers in union with the sacrifice he offers on their behalf. With this common orientation, the worship of the entire church is focused vertically, towards God, instead of horizontally, where the priest and the people appear to be talking to each other, instead of speaking together, to God. By shrouding the personality of the celebrant, ad orientem facilitates both the priest s and the congregation s worship better. Without having to think about the people in the pews watching him, the priest is free to enter more deeply into the Mass. Likewise, with the priest s face obscured, the focus shifts away from the particular priest s personality, and back to the action of the Mass. Based on Brody et al. (2006) study, results indicated that race related stress from allostatic load was not significant for youth with high emotional support. Accessing emotional supportive networks of family and peers can help readjust behavior and counterbalance cognitive trajectories that reduce anxiety and stress. • 15. Analysis Of The Movie The Black Swan The Black Swan is a movie about a woman named Nina Sayers, who was a ballerina at an esteemed ballet company. The newest production the company was undertaking was a ballet called Swan Lake. Swan Lake was about a princess, the Swan Queen, who was turned into an evil Black Swan. In the movie, the role of the Swan Queen was highly sought after among the ballerinas, especially since the former principal dancer, Beth Macintyre, was recently let go from the company because of her age. Nina was also very interested in the role, and having been with the company for quite some time, auditioned for it. After she completed her audition, she received mixed feedback from the director, Thomas Leroy, about her performance. He told her that she was an excellent dancer, but she was also too rigid and stiff. He advised her to try to enjoy herself and add more personality in her dance instead of focusing, primarily, on her technique. His critique disappointed Nina because she desperately wanted to impress him. To make matters worse, she began to feel unsure of herself when a new dancer, Lily, arrived at the company. She especially felt threatened by Lily s presence after Thomas compared Lily s free and relaxed dance style with Nina s controlled and technical style. Eventually, Nina attempted to become more bold, both in her dancing and personal life, in an effort to win him over. The first hurdle that has to be taken is to convince a senior leadership team to pursue the program, knowing very well that some of them are sceptical and do not take the program very seriously, since they think that the program that will lose interest very soon. In order to convince this team one could show them studies that investigated the results of the program. If this program produced impressive positive results in other facilities, there would be a couple of studies that supported this conclusion. One could also evaluate the population of the facility and seeing that it was similar to the populations that benefitted from the new program, would argue that it is applicable to this specific facility. Further, one could also look at the recidivismrates of those offenders that completed the program. • 17. Biblical Heroism In Treasure Island By Robert Louis Stevenson Noah. Moses. Joshua. Esther. What might all these people share in common? All were heroes in light of the biblical understanding of the term, heroism. Matthew 20:28 states, Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (NIV). This verse embodies one of the components of a true heros character. The biblical heroes mentioned above were humble, led others by serving, counted others needs more significant than their own, and obeyed God s call for their lives. Of course, they were sinners and still stumbled and fell, but their lives demonstrate true biblical heroism in their strivings to honor God and serve others. Noah obeyed God s command to build an ark and rescued his family and the animals from the Flood. Moses led the grumbling people of Israel out of Egypt and into the desert after continually pleading with Pharaoh to let them go leave Egypt. Joshua listened to God s instruction and led the Israelites around Jericho s walls until they came tumbling down. Uninvited, Esther came into King Nebuchadnezzar s presence, asking him and Haman to dinner where she would eventually expose Haman s evil plans and save the Jews. In Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, the main characters, Long John Silverand Jim Hawkins, do not measure up in comparison to this biblical standard of heroism. • 19. Man s Search For Meaning Reflection Man s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl was an empowering, impactful, and memorable book. The brevity of the novel was refreshing and allowed me to purely understand what he intended. To me, Part One of this book was similar to the book Night by Elie Wiesel. They were both very honest and raw in their depiction of the holocaust and concentration camps. I enjoyed both books, they were insightful and opened my eyes to the nature of humanity. One specifically memorable thing that Frankl said was that both the people creating the gas chambers and the ones entering them were one in the same. Both books made me think, but Man s Search for Meaning was more reflective and encompassing. Reflection When reading Man s Search for Meaning, the quote man is more than psyche and the concept of logotherapy particularly interested me. I have never heard of either. Both of these topics peaked my interest. Man is more than psyche At first, I did not understand the simplicity of what Frankl meant by, man is more than psyche. I believed that there was something more to the quote, but I found that there is not. It is just what it says, man is more than psyche. Man has many features and characteristics, the psyche is an important one, but basing man on just psyche is unfair to humanity. While, I agree with Frankl, I can see why some would believe that the psyche is what defines man. The psyche influences a large part of our daily lives. Our emotions, thoughts, and actions are influenced by our psyche; these are often the defining characteristics of a person. However, I believe there is something that separates every one of us and defines humans. This is one s life purpose; it is rooted deep within us. Regardless of if we realize it, the life purpose is always within us, it is a matter of acknowledging it. It sets us apart from one another and individualizes us beyond our psyche. Another thing paired with life purpose is responsibility. One thing that Frankl says is that freedom must be paired with responsibility. In this I believe Frankl is saying that the freedom of life is congruent to having a responsibility of keeping the life purpose alive. I agree with Frankl. I think part of living is to be responsible in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. The Role Of Man In Jurassic Park The theme of man playing the role of god is prominent in the science fiction genre. Typically, man tampers with a power they do not fully understand and as a result, their creation leads to their eventual downfall. The power typically comes in the form of technological advancement. This theme is particularly illustrated in Jurassic Park, where the revival of an ancient specie threatens the extinction of the humanrace. Jurassic Park centers around a group of scientists bringing back the dinosaurs from extinction, using prehistoric DNA stored in amber. Dr. Ellie Sattler(Paleobotanist), Ian Malcolm(Mathematician), Dr. Alan Grant (Paleotologist), Donald Gennaro(Lawyer) are invited to tour the island owned by John Hammond, near Costa Rica, which is populated by genetically engineered dinosaurs. As they toured the island, Dennis Nedry (Computer Technician) steals some dinosauregg embryo after shutting down the parks security system. This resulted in the release of the dinosaurs as they ran amuck the park, which forces the visitors to fight for their survival as they try to restore the power and escape the island. Jurassic Park is a prime example of the recurring theme of man playing the role of god, since their transgression into an unknown realm of knowledge endangers their lives. In the movie, Ian Malcom makes the statement God creates dinosaurs, God destroys dinosaurs, God creates man, man destroys God, man creates dinosaurs which is met by Dr. Ellie Sattler s remark of ... • 21. Essay about The Dopamine Hypothesis of Schizophrenia The Dopamine Hypothesis of Schizophrenia Schizophrenia is a disease that has plagued societies around the world for centuries, although it was not given its formal name until 1911. It is characterized by the presence of positive and negative symptoms. Positive symptoms are so named because of the presence of altered behaviors, such as delusions, hallucinations (usually auditory), extreme emotions, excited motor activity, and incoherent thoughts and speech. (1,2) In contrast, negative symptoms are described as a lack of behaviors, such as emotion, speech, social interaction, and action. (1,2) These symptoms are by no means concrete. (2) However, there are some problems with this evidense. Amphetamines only mimic the positive symptoms of schizophrenia. They do not produce any of the negative symptoms. Likewise, anti psychotic drugs are only affective on the positive symptoms of the disease. There is still some evidense that schizophrenics do posess higher levels of dopamine, however, these increases are only found in the striatum of the brain (7). The striatum is a region of the brain that receives its inputs from and outputs to the cortex. Injury to the striatum results in problems with intiation and control of motor behavior. (9) Also, there is evidence that the prefrontalcortex produces lower levels of dopamine. (4) The prefrontal cortex is involved in the organization and coordination of information to and from the cortex. (7) The major support and refutation of the dopamine hypothesis has come from the examination of dopamine receptors in these regions of the brain. There are two main types of dopamine receptors, D1 and D2. However, within the category of D2 receptors, there are three subtypes, D2, D3, and D4. (5) Through PET scan analysis of dopamine usage in the brain and post mordum molecular analysis of brain tissue, researcher were able to determine relative levels of dopamine receptors in patients with schizophrenia compared to non schizophrenics. For most tribal communities, it is important to respect their culture and their beliefs. Scientists do not have the right to offend a tribal community, even if it was unintentional and due to ignorance regarding the taboo topics within the tribe from the researchers. What their samples were actually used for, well that was completely different. Without their permission, the DNA samples were used to study topics that are considered taboo within the Havasupai tribe such as mental illness, migration, and inbreeding. There were many issues raised in the Havasupai case. To begin with, informed consent is an issue because samples were used without complete consent. Researchers only received consent for using the samples to study diabetes, or that is what the tribe members were told. Another issue raised in this case was migration studies, which is a topic that concerns may tribes because the scientific evidence based on their genetic research may go against certain tribal beliefs. Each tribe has their own beliefs based on their origin and migration studies may cause these tribes trouble. Scientists may be messing around with tribal history in the name of science. This would, without a doubt, raise ethical concerns. Stigmatism of the tribe was another issue raised in this case. Measuring the interbreeding coefficient causes harm and distress to the tribal community. During this study, researchers gained illegal access to medical records. Researchers did not have permission to access the medical records from the tribal officials or the clinical administrators. This is an invasion of privacy. It is also important to note that even though individuals within the study were not named, naming the tribe risked the identification of these individuals. In a small community, it is not hard to figure out who someone is based on genetic information that was released. • 24. The Ethics Of A Savior Sibling Essay Kant claims that the human should act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means . Critics of savior sibling have argued that the procedure violates this concept. They argue that there is something fundamentally wrong with parents having children for the wrong reasons. In the case of a savior sibling, the parents are acting unethically by having a child for the purpose of saving the life of a second child and not for the sake of the child being born. This raises concern for the welfare of the child being created. One must agree that conceiving a child can be wrong or done for the wrong reasons. Thus, first, it must be firmly established that the creation of a savior sibling would be a wrong reason because the child will solely be treated as a means. This argument against savior sibling is misleading as the child is not treated solely as a means. And the Kantian concept does not prevent treating people as a means some time. In fact, people are treated as means all the time, one example is used by Christine Overall, a critic of savior sibling, arguing that her students use her as a mean semester after semester, simple to acquire an education (86). John Harris argues that we all treat people as means perfectly innocuously much of the time. Antimicrobial Prophylaxis In 1992 Shapiro et al. published their research informing providers prophylactic antimicrobial treatment is not routinely indicated [2] There were a total of 387 patients in the controlled trial, 203 patients assigned to receive amoxicillin and 182 were given a placebo [2]. Out of 173 subjects who received the placebo only two developed symptomatic infection with B. burgdorferi; whereas, none of the 192 subjects who were given amoxicillin showed any infection. Other positive effects of using steroids are increases in: storage of muscle glycogen; blood volume; a general boasting of the immune system; and the reduction of body fat percentage. Should they stay angry or should they let it go as Martha C. Nussbaum says in the Anger and Forgiveness book? To answer this question, the notion of anger needs to be explored. For instance, according to Nussbaum, in the Middle Realm , angeris the domain of life , and affects the way we spend our lives (p.138). Nussbaum says that we mostly deal with people who we meet temporarily; it can be at work, at the store or on the street, but we do it on a regular basis. Therefore, as the author points out, we do not get into a deep relationship with these people in this realm, and this is a short term situation. Also, Nussbaum says that she finds it easy to transition herself in a non anger situation with people who she loves. On the other hand, she finds it harder to transition from this feeling when dealing with irritating strangers (p. 139). Furthermore, the author agrees with the Stoics that mixture of heterogeneous elements is not worth to pay attention to. She gives some examples of the heterogeneous elements, which could be improper termination of employment, negligent medical treatment, harassment on the job, theft, etc. (p.139). Instead of being angry, Nussbaum suggests Transition (before) or Transition Anger (after). She also indicates that there is no point in getting further embroiled, mentally and emotionally (p.141). Indeed, this recommendation is essential for a business world where people have a tendency to get frustrated fast. By applying Nussbaum s techniques of controlling the anger, businesses can not only improve the working environment within their companies, but also prevent customers from being angry in various situations. A good example of possible applications of Nussbaum s anger techniques is demonstrated in the article BA says most flights running; angry passengers face delays. An American manager would need to take immense caution when approaching a person from either of these countries. Personal space is considered how close in proximity another individual is from the other. In china, residents do not abide by a personal bubble. The first thing a tourist would notice in this country is the immense population. Because of the large population, living space is close . More times than not, an entire family will live, eat, sleep, work, and play all in the same room. Contrary to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike the American culture where citizens call days to weeks in advance to book an appointment with someone or somewhere, Kenyans call an hour before hand to assure one is going to be available. In this case, a Western business owner will have to prepare for meetings and/or interactions in a shorter amount of time than one may be used to. Pointing a finger at another individual is considered disrespectful and the use of left hand is highly unacceptable. In Kenya, the left hand is considered to be unhygienic, therefore one must be certain to use their right hand when passing an item to someone else or while touching another individual. Kenyans also tend to be early birds and by seven in the morning the streets are filled with crowds. This is a key factor for a newly western business owner in Kenya to note. If one was to own a restaurant, opening in the early hours of the morning will bring more business through the doors ( Introduction to Kenya Culture, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Development of the Centre for Migration Studies Irish Emigration Database In 1988 the Ulster American Folk Park (UAFP) near Omagh in Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland began to set up a computerised Irish Emigration Database (IED) in its library. This was a ground breaking project at that time and was immediately beset by problems of all kinds, the details of which will be explained later. By 1997 the Folk Park s library had expanded to become the Centre for Emigration Studies and eventually the Centre for Migration Studies (CMS). The latter is now funded jointly by the Scotch Irish Trust of Ulster in partnership with DCAL (Department of Culture, Arts Leisure) and the five Education and Library Boards of Northern Ireland. They all did some excellent work for the Database and were a tremendous asset to the project. All other workers have been appointed via unemployment training schemes. After a year initially working at PRONI a new government training scheme was introduced to replace the old Ace Scheme. This entailed recruiting trainees who would earn only ВЈ10 per week, on top of their unemployment benefit. The prospects of recruiting well qualified people to process the documents looked bleak. However, after a short while we began to build up a number of trainees who were interested in the work. The main Training and Employment Agency was Enterprise Ulster http:/ /www.enterpriseulster.co.uk whose head office is in Belfast. • 41. Doomed King Henry VIII After I got this far in Doomed Queen Anne, I was just as intrigued and excited as I was when I d first opened the book. In fact, more excitement and anticipation had built up. That, but also the fact that I also found Anne s grip on the King s heart extremely fascinating. It was interesting to read as Anne s intelligence continued to blossom and captivate King Henry VIII; you don t see a king plead on his knees for a maiden very often. The book s plot, characters, and conflicts absorbed my mind quickly as they developed intensely and the action rose between Anne and all those around her; for instance when jealousy provoked competition between Tom Wyatt and King Henry, as they both nonchalantly competed for Anne s heart. I was impressed all... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It seemed extremely cruel. I couldn t feel good about reading it. This part was important in provoking Anne s vain confidence and what lead up to her downfall. It also showed that even King Henry VIII has desires that must be satisfied and a breaking point. A passage like this revealed a character s feelings and true thoughts: both selfish and unselfish. On page 118, it said, Marry me, dearest Anne! he cried, as though his heart would burst. Promise that you will be my wife! ( Meyer 118). Just reading Anne s last few thoughts, rejoicing that she d be queen only made me see her as ungrateful and selfish. I had hoped by then, King Henry would have truly caught Anne s fancy; not just him faithfully clinging onto her. Anne s description and words about how she felt about anything was an essential part of the story. Without them, the story would not have flowed the way it did, her opinions about situations mattered quite a lot in knowing what she plans to do and all her feeling through and through. The details all enhanced the importance of the theme; the higher one rises, the further they have to fall, because as Anne described in the story, her experience of how she rose in position and how she fell all the way back to the bottom and far into ... • 42. To My Dear And Loving Husband By Anne Bradstreet In, To My Dear and Loving Husband, by Anne Bradstreet, we see that this poem is about a woman that loves her husband. Love conquers all right? The overall tone of this work comes off as love. Bradstreet shares many ways of her love with us and she wants us to know that her love is going to be as strong when they are no more living on this earth. Anne Bradstreet expresses to the audience her lovefor her husband in different tones. Throughout the poem, we see that Bradstreet is comparing her love to water, and gold; but in the end is that enough? The tone of each excerpt affects the whole message being given in, To My Dear and Loving Husband. Anne loves God, but she also loves her husband. On line ten she says, The heavens reward thee manifold,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We see all of these throughout the poem. The passion is shown when she is comparing their love to gold. I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold, or all the riches that the East doth hold (226). She thinks her love for her husband is worth more then all of the rivers, creeks, lakes, and gold in the whole world. Their love could not fill oceans. Also in, If ever two were one, then surely we (226). She needs his love and she can not live without it. The writer thinks they could be one. It is interesting that a Puritan would write such a love poem. Puritans are supposing to have a relationship with God. I am surprised that she is writing something with so much emotion in it. On line nine she states, Thy love is such I can no way repay (226). She means that the love that her husband gives her is passionate and emotional, that there is no way that she could ever repay him. She wants to share how great her and her husbands chemistry is and that is endearing, because it is inspiring love. Another tone would be from Nor ought but love from thee, give recompense, (226) she is adoring of her husband. The last two lines of this poem expresses her endearing love. Then while we live, in love let s so persevere, that when we live no more, we may live ever (226). If ever man were loved by wife, then thee (Bradstreet 226) shows the ... • 43. The Hero s Journey In The Monomyth By Joseph Campbell It may be hard to believe that every story follows a near identical pattern. Author Joseph Campbell discovered a general structure for the plot of all myths and stories. He wrote about his theory in The Hero With a Thousand Faces to educate others about this idea, which he called, The Monomyth . Joseph Campbell, who has written many famed books in his lifetime, was a mythologist and spent a large part of his time reading before creating this theory. The monomyth, also known as The Heros Journey, explains in deep detail the interaction the hero has during each phase of his journey. Joseph Campbellwas partially inspired by Carl Jung s theory of Archetypes ; Jung believed characters had definable characteristics that could be created into... At this point in the journey, The hero has not yet fully committed to the journey and may still be thinking of turning back (Vogler 11). • 44. Touch Screen Technology It s pretty safe believe everyone today, and if not everyone majority of people, have used or at least seen some sort of touch screen technology. Whether it is via ones smartphone, GPS, or any kiosk, touch screen technology has been on the rise since the early 1960 s. According to New Interfaces at the Touch of a Fingertip , Touch screen technology has been the subject of research since the early 1970s (Nichols). One may need to apply pressure to their device s screen to activate a specific command, or instead, use anything that holds an electric charge such as human skin. Touch technology has become very prevalent in today s world and this paper will start by discussing the history behind touch technology, followed by further examining how two common touch technologies, capacitive and resistive, work as well as the advantages and disadvantages for each. Before diving into the technicality of how they work, it s important to take a look at the history and evolution of its making. The timeline published on NPR by Nicole Cohen, A History Of Touch Screen Technology allows one to really see the growth over the years of the development to such technology. Air traffic control technology in 1965 by E.A Johnson is thought to have been the first touch screen technology. A couple years later in 1965, PLATO IV terminal was used in educational classrooms at the University of Illinois, which allowed students to answer questions via this touch screen. We see this ... Disk Cache Optimization Using Compressed Caching Technique Disk Cache Optimization using Compressed Caching Technique Maheshwar Sharma Gaurav Rawat, Himanshu Banswal, Naman Monga Department of Computer Science, BVCOE, GGSIP University, New Delhi, India ______________________________________________________________________________ Abstract In this paper we have discussed about the cache and various mapping technique. Then we shift our focus on compressed caching which is the technique that tries to decrease paging request from secondary storage. We know that there is a big performance gap in accessing the primary memory (RAM) and secondary storage (Disk). The Compressed caching technique intercepts the pages to be swapped out, compresses them and stores them in pool allocated in RAM. Hence it tries to fill the performance gap by adding new level to virtual memory hierarchy. This paper analyze the performance of virtual memory compression. Further to avoid various categories of cache misses we discuss different types of cache technique to achieve higher performance. Lastly we discuss few open and challenging issues faced in various cache optimization techniques. Keywords Cache mapping technique, Cache optimization, Virtual Memory, Zswap, Zbud , LZO, Frontwrap, limit hit I. INTRODUCTION Basically, cache is the smallest and fastest memory component in the hierarchy. It is aimed to bridge the gap between the fastest processor to the slowest memory components at a reasonable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
