Eco550 Assignment 1
Assignment 1: Making Decisions Based on Demand and Forecasting
Managerial Economics and Globalization, ECO550
Making Decisions Based on Demand and Forecasting
A market demand analysis is used to help understand how much consumer demand there is for a given
product or service. This type of analysis will help determine if a business can successfully enter a
market and generate enough revenue and profit to maintain the business. One must identify the market
and the growth potential. Domino s Pizza was incorporated in 1963 and has been franchising since

The Difficulty Of Producing One Definition Of Methodology
Clough and Nutbrown (2007, p.32) discuss the difficulty of producing one definition of methodology,
as every researcher will offer slightly differing definitions according to their own training, discipline
and purposes. However, Burton, Brundrett and Jones (2014, p.6) provide a basic overview, stating that
methodology focuses upon the identification of sources of evidence and how such evidence might be
gathered .
My research project will have a case study research design, which will lead to me gaining qualitative
data. Qualitative data, along with the case study design, ties in with my aims the most as I am seeking

My sample will include between fifty and sixty, Year One and Two, pupils who will be observed in the
classroom. Additionally, my sample will also include between ten and twenty members of Key Stage
One staff, who I will informally interview about their views on attitudes towards learning in Key
Stage One.
The data collection methods that I have opted to use for my project, have all been specifically chosen
and designed to present me with the best chance of obtaining a detailed scope of data. One of my data
collection methods is informal interviews, which will, hopefully, give me an accurate insight into the
views of Key Stage One staff; who have experienced differing attitudes towards learning. Informal
interviews are most suited to my project as Fraenkel, Wallen and Hyun (2014, p.449) discuss how
informal interviews can resemble casual conversations whilst allowing the researcher to find out what
people think and how the views of one individual compare with those of another .
Another data collection method, that I have chosen, is observations of the pupils. Firstly, I will ask the
teacher of the class if any of the pupils have any learning difficulties, as Hannell (2014, pp.212 215)
raises the fact that learning difficulties and/or differences can have an immense effect on attitudes
towards learning. If any of the pupils have got any learning difficulties/differences, this will be

Agency Of Punishment And Hedda Gabler

Agency in Punishment and Hedda Gabler.
In Rabindranath Tagore s short story Punishment, Chandara, an 18 year old lower caste woman in
India, seeks her freedom from cultural and familial oppression by allowing herself to be executed. In
Henrik Ibsen s play Hedda Gabler, the protagonist, an aristocratic woman from prosperous 19th
century Norway, asserts her freedom from societal oppression by killing herself.
Considering the socio economic and cultural differences of these female characters, how could their
ends be so similar? In this essay, we ll discuss why these late 19th century, early 20th century authors
chose to make suicide, or the desire for death (or other drastic behavior), agency for their female
characters in these two texts. We ll do this by analyzing the feminist themes of Tagore and Ibsen, in
light of the realist/naturalist literary movement at the time; as well as discussing the ways the authors
allow for autonomy with their characters as well as the ways they restrict their options in these works.
Tagore and Ibsen shared similar literary and philosophical ideas, which helps to explain their
realistically conflicted oppressed, yet courageously challenging female characters. Naturalism/realism
was the dominant literary trend in the late 19th century, and Tagore and Ibsen featured elements of
realism and naturalism in their work. Their stories and plays contained ordinary people in realistic
seeming scenarios realism

Allied Pows
During World War II, most of the countries, after invading a land, took adversary soldiers who
surrendered as prisoners. They were, most of the time, sent to concentration camps. Although the
treatment of these prisoners of war (POWs) was different from country to country, it was mostly harsh
and ignorant. According to Gavan Daws, a historian, Japanese concentration camps are the ones,
where the behavior of the military was the most brutal and ruthless. Although the Japanese Imperial
government had vowed to treat prisoners of war with consideration and appreciation, they dealt with
the detainees fiercely while medicinal treatment was apathetic. Japanese military is well known as
being sadistic and ignorant towards the Allied POWs. The discipline ... Show more content on

Why were the Japanese so cruel during WWII? Honor is the main reason. The Japanese soldiers were
very faithful to their nation. Even nowadays, the honor and patriotism still are extremely strong in
Japan. They were taught that if a soldier surrendered and didn t fight till the end being afraid of the
death, meant a failure. Consequently, they would be punished and disrespected. Japanese hierarchy
worked like a class system. Prisoners were at the last rung. Therefore, any Japanese soldier could
chastise them. Physical discipline was allotted for even unimportant infractions, for example,
neglecting to salute Japanese military. This meant for a Japanese to lose face. The most widely
recognized type of discipline was face slapping. Soldiers used mostly hard instruments, such as a
shovel, for this punishment. An Australian surgeon did some research on prisoners. He described the
injuries they obtained when they missed work because of the prostration: blows with a fist,
hammering over the face and head with wooden clogs, repeatedly thrown to the ground...kicking in
the stomach and scrotum and ribs etc ... (The War Diaries of Weary Dunlop). The Japanese utilized
numerous sorts of physical discipline. For example, they could force the prisoners to hold a heavy
stove above their head for several days with no food or water. Another punishment was to put them in
a cage for weeks and not provide them any nutrition. Japanese soldiers made fun of the detainees and
their sad lives. The camp was like a show for them. Gavan Daws states that the Japanese often took
extreme measures against detainees. Especially, when they tried to escape: Whether they are destroyed
individually or in groups, or however it is done, with mass bombing, poisonous smoke, [...] , or what,
dispose of the prisoners as the situation dictates. In any case it is the aim not to allow the escape of a

A Covenant Of The Common Law Rule
Critically, a release takes effect immediately. Id. As a consequence, a release immediately discharges
any obligation within its scope. Id. Accordingly, because a release has the effect of immediately
discharging an obligation, the release is tendered at the time the release is given. Therefore, a release
cannot be breached because complete performance is rendered at the moment release is effectuated. In
some instances again, generally in the context of joint tortfeasors the common law rule that a release
had the effect of discharging an obligation rather than an obligor was perceived to apply too harshly
when an obligee gave a release with an obvious intent to only discharge one but not all obligors.
Shriver, supra, 155 Md. at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Contrary to a release, a covenant not to sue did not have the effect of discharging an obligation, but
rather it was a promise made by the obligee to refrain from enforcing the obligation. This distinction
permitted a plaintiff to reach a settlement with one joint tortfeasor without discharging the obligation
with respect to the remaining obligors. This concept is reflected in the Restatement (Second) of
Contracts, which defines a contract not to sue as a contract under which the obligee of a duty promises
never to sue the obligor or a third person to enforce the duty or not to do so for a limited time.
Restatement (Second) of Contracts § 285. The material distinction between a release and a covenant
not to sue is that a release is an immediate discharge, and performance is complete at the time the
release is effectuated. A covenant not to sue, on the other hand, is a promise for the maker to undertake
some future performance. Stated differently, [d]ischarge by release . . . has long been regarded as an
executed transaction rather than an executory promise whereas a covenant not to sue . . . was treated
as an executory promise. Restatement (Second) of Contracts § 295 cmt. a. For this reason, a lawsuit on

Laurie Halse s Chains Quotes
In the book Chains by Laurie Halse, it talks about a girl named Isabel, who was born as a slave. Isabel
has faced many challenges in her life, ranging from her abusive witch like owner Madame Lockton, to
choosing whether to side with Great Britain or America. The old man Isabel calls grandfather, tells
her, Everything that stands between you and freedom is the River Jordan. When talking about about
the River Jordan, her grandfather means that Isabel must overcome her problems (the River Jordan) to
find freedom and escape from the brutality of being a slave. There are many things that get in the way
of Isabel on her quest to freedom, such as Madame Lockton, choosing sides, finding Ruth, and a
potential way Isabel can find freedom. Each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her problems could be interpreted as chains trapping and drowning her in her River Jordan. He
[Captain Campbell] couldn t take me. He would not. I was chained between two nations... I was a
ghost tied to the ground not a living soul. (182) This quote shows Isabel is stuck, not knowing what
side to favor. They used a simile comparing Isabel and the two nations to a ghost trapped in the
ground, with Isabel depicted as the ghost. It explained that Isabel is a like ghost trapped in the ground,
not with the British nor the Americans. The glowing iron streaked in front of my face like a comet...
The man pushed the hot metal against my cheek. It hissed and bubbled. Smoke curled under my nose.
They cooked me. (148) This passage clarifies when Isabel gets branded. This part of the story almost
broke Isabel s spirit to fight forward and for freedom. Not like her usual self, she followed orders
received from Madame and rarely thought about Ruth and her parents. I took a step up. Answer me,
you miserable cow. Did you sell my sister? ... She is only 5 years old. I rose another step. She is a
baby and you sold her away from me. (135) During this section of the story, this would be the first
time Isabel ever truly got mad at Madame, even enough to yell at her with a rude name. This is one of
the larger complications that add more water to Isabel s River Jordan. Ruth was Isabel s only family
left, and she sincerely did care for Ruth, but when Ruth got sold it put Isabel into despair. It was also
the cause of Isabel being branded. But Ruth did. She giggled, a sound like a small silver bell. A bell
tolling disaster. Madam Lockton... pointed her finger at us. Which one of you made that noise? Her
face flushed with rage her eyes darting back and forth between us. I did, ma am, I quickly lied...

How Did Stalin Use Propaganda
Secondly, both exploited propaganda to promote their own ideology to the society and cult of
personality to strengthen their supreme authority. The USSR mainly used cult of personality to
promote the god like figure of the supreme leader of Stalin. The personality cult and the adulation
Stalin received were two of the most striking features of Soviet propaganda. By the end of the 1940s,
Stalin dominated the USSR physically as well as politically. His images were found everywhere, as he
has already been exaggeratedly deified. Praise was stacked on Stalin personally and his link with
Lenin and his role in the achievements of the First Five Year Plan was emphasized. From 1935
onwards, it was possible to speak of Stalin only in glowing terms. He was portrayed as the leader
(vozhd), a genius with great wisdom and even prophetic powers. The portrayal of Stalin gave his
people confidence that they would have a strong and powerful leader to take them through all those
difficult and crucial times. Paintings and drawings, poetry and sculpture of Stalin all served as the cult.

Climate Change and Public Policy Essay examples
It is becoming increasingly certain that climate change will have severe adverse effects on the
environment in years to come. Addressing this issue poses a serious challenge for policy makers. How
we choose to respond to the threat of global warming is not simply a political issue. It is also an
economic issue and an ethical one. Responsible, effective climate change policy requires consideration
of a number of complex factors, including weighing the costs of implementing climate change policies
against the benefits of more environmentally sustainable practices. Furthermore, this analysis must
take place amidst serious gaps in the existing research and technology concerning the developing
climatic condition. For these reasons, global ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, even for those who are less motivated by such moralistic calls to action, the fact remains
that conservation is as much an economic issue as an ethical one. While economic considerations are a
problematic feature of climate change policy, under the proper analysis, they also serve as an
important motivator. Economic analysis that weighs all costs and benefits of a particular model must
include environmental considerations. That is to say, the potential for short term economic losses
caused by conservation in the present, should be measured against the dividends that conservation will
pay in the future (Nordhaus, 2007). If the earth is truly our most valuable commodity, then analysis
under these conditions should recognize that if a dollar value were placed on environmental
sustainability, more often than not it would outweigh any initial monetary loss resultant of the
implementation of more sustainable practices. Indeed, if we accept the danger of global warming to be
a real and present one, then the question of how to address it must be given serious consideration.
Research conducted from as early as the 1950s through the present has afforded us a solid
understanding of its causes. In the most basic sense, the problem lies in the burning of carbon based
fossil fuels such as carbon and oil which leads to the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2). Gases such as
CO2 are referred to as greenhouse gases (GHGs) which accumulate in the atmosphere. GHGs can

Brothers, Jacob Carl Grimm and Wilhelm Carl Grimm are known world wide as The Grimm Brothers
. These authors are famous for their work in the history and structure of the German language and its
relationship to other languages as well as, German folklore, tales and literature. Through their lifelong
research into the German language they created their own Dictionary called, Grimm Law. The
Brothers also, published more than two hundred and ten German folk tales that they created from the
stories that the villagers and peasants told them. Originally, these stories were written for adult readers
and considered inappropriate for children. Many of their stories have been adapted by companies like
Disney that want to turn them into appropriate children stories or movies. Philipp and Dorothea
Grimm had nine children, all of which, did not survive to adulthood. Jacob, was the oldest surviving
of the Grimm siblings. He was born January 4, 1785 in Hanau, Germany, to Philipp and Dorothea

Seventy three seconds into its 10th flight, on January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger broke
apart over the Atlantic Ocean, killing the seven crew members on board [1]. The Challenger was the
second space shuttle constructed by NASA and had completed nine successful missions prior to the

Ronald Regan appointed a Commission, chaired by William P. Rogers and known as the Rogers

At the time, NASA s goal was two reach two launches per month, a goal that well exceeded the budget
and training facilities available [2].
The night before the launch, a teleconference between Thiokol and NASA was held to address the
concerns regarding the performance of the SRB O ring seal in cold weather. Thiokol recommended
that the launch be postponed since there was no data available for temperatures below 53°F [2]. After
internal discussions in the Thiokol group, senior management eventually endorsed the launch,
recommending it to proceed, reversing their original decision [2]. Rockwell, the shuttle s primary
contractor, did not support the launch due to the possibility of ice leaving the structure and damaging
the thermal shield tiles during takeoff. Their concerns were relayed to NASA, but in such a way that
NASA chose to proceed with the launch [2]. Though this was eventually determined to be a non issue
in the Challenger launch, the true nature of the problems that can occur when an object strikes the
shuttle during takeoff would not be learned until 2003, when the space shuttle Columbia disintegrated
on re entry due to damage of a heat shield tile that occurred during takeoff [2] [3].
Despite the concerns raised, the Challenger was launched on January 28, 1986 [4]. Seventy three

Mark Reveal Jesus s Identity in the Gospel of Mark
In the Gospel of Mark, Mark discloses the life of Jesus and his embodiment of God s Kingdom.
Throughout his Gospel, Mark focuses on accurately revealing Jesus identity to his readers, and
explaining why Jesus was destined to die on the Cross. Mark uses his role as an arranger by
employing a diverse array of literary tactics to highlight the lessons of his narrative. One of the most
effective of these devices is intercalation the process of sandwiching one story between the beginning
and ending of a separate story. For most people, this tactic would at first appear as impractical or
senseless; however, through this process Mark is able to convey a deeper meaning in the lessons he is
hoping to share through the life of Jesus, and what it infers about the nature of God s Kingdom. One
of the most notable examples of intercalation in the Gospel of Mark is seen in Mark 5:21 43: the story
of the raising of Jairus twelve year old daughter and the woman who suffered from hemorrhages.
Through the intercalation of these two passages, Mark is able to express that the boundaries of God s
Kingdom expand beyond social status and wealth, and that faith alone is all that is needed to be a part
of His divine realm.
Understanding the significance of several details of Mark 5:21 43 is crucial before fully understanding
the significance of the passage itself. One of these details is location. Throughout the Gospel of Mark,
Jesus spends much of his time traveling to the other side that is,

Persuasive Essay On Endangered Animals
Animals Many animals go extinct because people think it s okay to keep hunting them until there are
no more of the population left. But it isn t because if people hunt and kill all the species of that animal,
then there would be none left. No elephants no giraffes or no emperor tamarin monkeys. Zoo s have
tried to take in endangered species, but if there isn t any how would they get them? They couldn t
because it would be too late, people would have already killed them all.
Elephants would travel in herds of families, to form a herd it would be from 8 100 individuals. There
are only two different types of species, the Elephas Maximus and the Loxodonta cyclotis elephants.
The Elephas Maximus were Asian and African savanna elephants. The Loxodonta cyclotis were
African forest elephants. Babies would hold onto their moms tails because they would be trained to do
so. People thought it was cute to see that so trainers would train the elephants to do that. Wild
elephants don t walk in that formation or in any order (Bradford). Elephants have got to be the biggest
living land animal in the world. Blue whales weigh a ton more, but also they are the largest living
water animals.
Emperor Tamarin Monkeys are found in the forest of South America and live in groups from between
2 8 monkeys. They were named after their mustaches, which was thought to resemble German
emperor Wilhelm ll. Due to their small size they are able to move from branch to branch very quickly.
Their prey includes fruit, insects, and rodents. They also have predators which are, hawks, snakes and
wild cats. They have a small body size they are all mostly between 7in. 12in. Their tails are very long
and thin, and most of the time they live to be between 8 15 years. Most of all they are very playful
animals ( A Z Animals ). They are very tame, playful, and loving animals. When they are in an area
they love to be petted by humans and they would play around with whoever it is. They are usually in
groups of 15 others. The best thing is if you get one as a pet as a baby you would have to put them in
diapers to potty train them just like an actual baby.

Hypocrisy, By Arthur Miller
These people had no ritual for the washing away of sins. It is another trait we inherited from them, and
it has helped to discipline us as well as to breed hypocrisy among us. (19) These words, which were
written by Arthur Miller in 1953, in the description of John Proctor, have given us the explanation of
the hypocrisy we have today and will remain within us for a long, perpetual time ahead. Hypocrisy is
just one of various universal theme that Miller had endeavored to illustrate while he was writing this
story of notorious Salem witch trial in Massachusetts, in the year of 1692. Obviously, Miller did not
write the Crucible merely to produce a reminiscence of a wrongful event in the past, but rather he
desired to share with people what he had experienced during the time of composing this script. As we
wish to analyze the specific point Miller is making about hypocrisy, we need to recognize the
relationship between the time and event of Miller s life around the year of 1953, when he wrote the
Crucible. For a brief biography about Arthur Miller, he was born in 1915 and passed away in 2005.
Miller had lived through the destructive years of World War I and World War II, which strengthen the
existence of communism in Europe and Asia. To preclude the expansion of communism in the
country, United States had established the House Un American Activities Committee, which acted like
the Salem court, offering the opportunity for confession and the grace of redemption (xii). A

Psychoanalysis Of Psychoanalysis
Psychoanalysis was founded by Sigmund Freud to make the unconscious conscious. His aim was to
gain insight into the unconscious and repressed thoughts, feelings and motivations of people in order
to help them understand. Freud focused on bringing the repressed internal conflict (such as
development issues or trauma) to a conscious place where the person can easily deal with it. Art is one
way in which the individual can express his deepest thoughts by unravelling one s inner feelings,
making them visible and vulnerable. When a work of art is created by an artist it reflects his/her
beliefs and morale which in turn helps us understand and interpret it more clearly.
Frida Kahlo
55 works out of 143 paintings by Frida Kahlo have been devoted to her self portraits. This has led
analysts to believe that these expressions of art were important to the artist herself and not particularly
created for the pleasure of others. Self portraits are mostly associated with psychoanalysis because
they reflect mental complexities and in Kahlo s case are an indicative of the ups and downs in her life.

Unlike her other paintings, she paints herself with short hair and in men s clothes (probably Rivera s
judging from the size). This is her way of identifying with Rivera by using short hair as a symbol to
represent her husband. This mental imagination formed in her unconscious is a sign of great loss in
her life. In Freudian psychoanalysis, what the individual emphasize through his words and
imaginations is what has been absent in his real life and reaching it appears to be difficult. This work
by Kahlo shows a loss of her beloved, whom she has sought to fill in her mind through the short hair.
He relates this to the early childhood oral stage stating the artist is compensating the physical loss of

Yellow Wallpaper Influence
Wallpaper, in general, is never appealing, but usually most wallpaper does not make one go
completely crazy and lose their mind. Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the author of The Yellow Wallpaper,
created a wallpaper that did just that. The Yellow Wallpaper is a short story about a husband and wife,
who go to a summer house for the wife s depression. John, the husband, is a doctor and is responsible
for treating his wife. His treatment for her illness is to keep her cooped up in an old nursery room with
hideous yellow wallpaper. The wife, who is also the narrator of the story, slowly becomes more and
more obsessed with the wallpaper pattern as she is forced to stay in that room. The pattern, the wife

Pride And Fire Chapter 1 Summary
With the force of a tornado fire and smoke pour out of the cardboard box engulfing the entire
apartment building in flames. Theodore turns around and watches as the fire eats away at the building
killing everyone unlucky enough to live on the second and third floors. The flames reflect off the
moon and Theodore s eyes. In the distance the former prince can hear sirens so Theodore runs away
from the apartment faster than a rabbit running from a fox. Theodore runs to the restaurant which is
now mostly empty except for Frederick and two of his goons. Theodore walks through the restaurant s
front doors and into the back room where Frederick is eating a piece of lasagna. The lasagna was

Anger In The Angry Young Men
Anger is an innate feature and feeling that is present in all human beings. It is a feeling the leads man
to feel that he is not restricted and free. It gives one the motivation to face everything and create his
own predestination ( Grasso1).Vincent K. Bissonette believes that anger is a respond to the injury and
unfairness that the mind receives towards something (126). Aristotle declares that anger is a
motivation that accompanied by pain. It leads to the idea of trying to make the other suffer through
taking revenge from him without any reason (20). Carol Tavris asserts that anger, from an
evolutionary view, is an essential and fundamental response to existence (46). It is also the last step

The plot is absent, which strengthen the idea of routine in human s life. The dialogue is often

Alexander the Second and the Title Tsar Liberator Essay
Alexander the Second and the Title Tsar Liberator
In the 19th Century, Russia had no zemstva, very little education, industry and railway building, a
biased judicial system and very few freed peasants. Czar Alexander II, who succeeded Nicolas I in
1855, went some ways to remedying these deficiencies through a series of reforms. Alexander II
became the great modernizer of Russia, walking a delicate line between preserving Russia s Slavic
identity and enabling its people to benefit from Western advancements. For this reason he was known
to some as the Czar Liberator . However, indeed he was a liberator in name only.
Alexander II initiated substantial reforms in education, the government, the ... Show more content on

For the educational reform, the Czar adopted a more liberal education. Censorship was relaxed, the
universities were given freedom and independence, and more Western ideas were introduced to
scholars and students. People were more open minded and became to demand more under these liberal
reforms.
Though Czar Alexander II returned to reactionary rule when an attempt was made to assassinate him
in the 1860s, he did turn once more to reform in 1880. He made plans to set up a General Commission
which would include representatives from the Zemstva. This would not be a parliament but would be a
consultative voice when the Czar required it. But this was an attempt towards a parliamentary
government.
Superficially, Czar Alexander II seemed to be so liberate from his series of reform. Yet,
notwithstanding these measures, it would be wrong, as is sometimes done, to describe Alexander II as
a liberal. He was in fact a firm upholder of autocratic principles, sincerely convinced both of his duty
to maintain the God given autocratic power he had inherited and of Russia s unreadiness for
constitutional or representative government.
For the emancipation of serfs, it was actually essential more than out of the Czar s willingness. The
bulk of the Russian population, about 80%, were the peasants and serfs. Alexander II recognised that
emancipation was vital. Freed

The Evil Within No Country for Old Men Essay
Good and evil have existed since the beginning of mankind. Good defends the righteous, as evil has
been bent on destruction. In today s society, many people believe that good will always triumph over
evil. The murderer will eventually be caught by the police; the carjacker will one day meet his doom;
the superhero will defeat the evil villain. Simply, in some circumstances, this is not entirely true. Good
does not always prevail over evil. This is exceptionally true in the movie No Country for Old Men by
the Coen brothers. The dominant theme in the Coen brother s movie is evil.
The movie No Country for Old Men is based on a book by Cormac McCarthy. According to Lan

Evil is the force in nature that governs and gives rise to the wickedness. Evil is a very complex subject
that one may consider unpleasant. However, evidence shows that evil does exist, and has existed since
the beginning of mankind. No Country for Old Men displays the works and consequences of evil
forces. No Country for Old Men illustrates evil through the greed and lust of money. According to
God, Money is the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6/10). Money has a strange phenomenon that can result
in misery beyond human perception. In the Coen brothers movie an evil individual discovers that he
can obtain a vast amount of money, after a drug deal that went awfully wrong. This event causes a
chain reaction of murderous rampages, which claims the lives of many people. The murderous
rampages were led by the devil himself. The devil took the form of a human being named Anton
Chigurh. Chigurh is an extremely evil individual with no conscience. According McCarthy, Chigurh

Pentecopterus Research Paper
Correction: The six foot long predatory scorpion is not currently terrorizing Iowa. But it used to, about
467 million years ago, back when Iowa was an ocean.
While excavating a meteorite crater in northeastern Iowa s Winneshiek Shale, paleontologists

now believed to be Planet Earth s earliest large predator. The findings were published in the journal
BMC Evolutionary Biology on August 31st, 2015.

Why, none other than the Permian Triassic extinction event 252 million years ago, the planet s most

Personal Reflective Essay
When I am not working at my grocery store, I coach a high school bowling team. I have been bowling
for many years and coaching for two. Since I took over the team, we have won back to back state
championships. However, with any sport comes strategic thinking between the head coach and his
assistants. Before every match, I and my assistant coach have to create a line up that obtains stressful
strategic thinking. The way bowling matches work is that we have a team of six bowlers and each
bowler is matched up against their opponent on the other team. If that person wins their game, they get
a point. The most points at the end of the match wins the match. So, when writing my lineup, I have to
determine which players to match up to the other team s players. I could put my strongest player
against their strongest player and maybe get a point, or I can put my strongest player against their
weakest players and guarantee a point. Also, I could mix up my lineup and place the bowlers in any
lineup. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

maximize the probability of my team winning the match. Obviously, the other person s dominant
strategy would be the lineup that the other coach created. The unique solution that I chose is to go

The Impact Of The Spanish Conquest Of Mexico
The Spanish Conquest of Mexico and the Aztec people started when Hernán Cortés led the Spanish
conquistadors to Tenochtitlán and conquered the Aztec Empire in 1519. The Spaniards had
gunpowder, dogs, horses, and armor that would help fight against the Azteca. The Native Americans
wanted to only wound their enemies with their woodened clubs tipped and sharp obsidian that was
powerful enough to smash the Spaniard s helmets. The use of the double bladed swords helped the
Spaniards fight close combat with the Indians. As soon as their chief died the Azteca would back
down. Not only did the weapons cause a huge impact on the Aztec but also the spread of diseases such
as smallpox that were carried by the Europeans affected the population. After conquering the Indians,
the intensions of the Spanish in Mexico was to spread their beliefs about Christianity, find gold and
use them as slaves. In drastic ways the Spaniards changed the native communities, for instance
plagues spread throughout the whole country side after the defeat of Tenochtitlán. Smallpox, measles,
and influenza were the outbreaks that hit urban cities the hardest. In 1520 1521 an outbreak of
smallpox caused thousands to die because Azteca medicine was not affective against these diseases.
The second outbreak occurred in 1531 and it was smallpox again but combined with measles and the
third wave of the disease lasted from 1576 to 1581 killing 300,000 to 400,000 of the Aztec population.

Diary Of Anne Frank Analysis
Anne Frank captured the grim reality of life as a Jewish teenager during the Holocaust in her eye
opening recollection entitled The Diary of Anne Frank. Her diary brought to light some of the tragic
events and atrocities that transpired during World War II and the shocking crimes committed against
an entire race. Certain themes prominent throughout the diary reveal the priceless wisdom that can be
obtained from the young girl s writings and can be analyzed from a psychological perspective to
further understand the unfathomable circumstances in which Anne and her fellow members of the
Secret Annexe were forced to endure. It all began on Anne s thirteenth birthday when she was given a
diary as a gift. Even before she was forced into hiding, Anne had no one to truly confide in. Because
of this, she turned to the diary to spill all her innermost thoughts and experiences as many young girls
do. She expressed, I want to write. But more than that, I want to bring out all kinds of things that lie
buried deep in my heart, (Frank, 1942). However, the diary quickly turned from a young girl s
musings into a priceless piece of a beautiful young soul that was taken too soon and an important
piece of history and literature. Due to the persecution of the Jews and their detainment to
concentration camps under the Nazi regime, Anne s family soon went into hiding with another Jewish
family. They were later joined by a dentist named Mr. Dussel. Despite arguments, grief, illness,

forming and dripping down his walls. He quickly runs out of the kitchen to get an empty bucket to
collect the drops, but when he comes back, the room is flooded up to his knees and he panics. Jumping
onto the kitchen counter, he crawls all the way to the refridgerator, and grabs his umbrella, opening it
to try to shield himself from the indoor storm.
Someone! he screams helplessly. He thinks of his papers on his desk that he worked so hard on,
probably destroyed, and cries. Help!
The front door suddenly slams open, and someone rushes into the kitchen.
Hi, I m Taehyung! I like the number ten, and you can call me TaeTae, why are you screaming the
stranger freezes at the doorway, staring at the scene.
If Jungkook wasn t so distressed, he would ve taken time and admire the handsome stranger. If he
wasn t so distressed, he would ve been ashamed of his situation: having a stranger barge into his
apartment to witness him crouched on his kitchen counter holding an umbrella, screaming at the water
coming out of his ceiling and crying because he had no idea what the fuck was going on.
The two just stand there, in total shock while the rest of Jungkook s

Ethical Issues Related To The PCBH Model

Chapter 13 in Behavioral Consultation and Primary Care: A Guide to Integrating Services discusses
common ethical concerns that arise within the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model.
Robinson and Reiter (2016) illustrate these common concerns through artificial case examples that
address issues related to competence, informed consent, and confidentiality. Each of these ethical
concerns are found within any field of psychology; however, the paradigm shift that the PCBH model
reflects leads to several new questions regarding these issues. Robinson and Reiter (2016) discussed
these ethical topics particularly related to the PCBH model. The first case illustrated by Robinson and
Reiter (2016) pertains to competence within the PCBH model. Specific guidelines are provided to
demonstrate how a psychologist can gain competence within different subsects established within the
field of psychology. For example, some states have specific requirements that a psychologist must
meet in order to be recognized as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Warm handoffs are often utilized within the PCBH model, which allows a primary care provider
(PCP) to introduce the patient to the psychologist at the time of the patient s appointment with the
PCP. Although these warm handoffs are often effective, some professionals struggle with whether the
patient truly understands the role of the psychologist. Robinson and Reiter (2016) emphasize that there
is no need for a separate informed consent because the informed consent signed by the patient at the
start of the appointment encompasses the psychologist. However, it is still important that the
psychologist or behavioral health provider ensure the patient understand who he/she is, what his/her
role is, and how he/she will interact with the other members of their healthcare

Destructive Cult
The world of cults is a misunderstood, yet dangerous to those captured by the community they bring,
and sometimes to their biological family. Cults are often seen as small, close knit groups of mentally
weak, crazy people, led by a power hungry source of insanity. While most of this may be true, the idea
that only the weak enter into cults is a fabrication to make people feel good about themselves, seeing
themselves as above the absurd ravings of a madman. Cults are never this simple, whether it be the
seemingly benign nature of Scientology, the paragons of virtue that many cult leaders, sometimes
successfully, try to mold themselves into, or just the satirical views of the harmless Church of the
Subgenius. What kind of people are most susceptible to the calling ... Show more content on

The Difficulty Of Producing One Definition Of Methodology Clough and Nutbrown (2007, p.32) discuss the difficulty of producing one definition of methodology, as every researcher will offer slightly differing definitions according to their own training, discipline and purposes. However, Burton, Brundrett and Jones (2014, p.6) provide a basic overview, stating that methodology focuses upon the identification of sources of evidence and how such evidence might be gathered . My research project will have a case study research design, which will lead to me gaining qualitative data. Additionally, my sample will also include between ten and twenty members of Key Stage One staff, who I will informally interview about their views on attitudes towards learning in Key Stage One. The data collection methods that I have opted to use for my project, have all been specifically chosen and designed to present me with the best chance of obtaining a detailed scope of data. One of my data collection methods is informal interviews, which will, hopefully, give me an accurate insight into the views of Key Stage One staff; who have experienced differing attitudes towards learning. Informal interviews are most suited to my project as Fraenkel, Wallen and Hyun (2014, p.449) discuss how informal interviews can resemble casual conversations whilst allowing the researcher to find out what people think and how the views of one individual compare with those of another . Another data collection method, that I have chosen, is observations of the pupils. Firstly, I will ask the teacher of the class if any of the pupils have any learning difficulties, as Hannell (2014, pp.212 215) raises the fact that learning difficulties and/or differences can have an immense effect on attitudes towards learning. In Rabindranath Tagore s short story Punishment, Chandara, an 18 year old lower caste woman in India, seeks her freedom from cultural and familial oppression by allowing herself to be executed. In Henrik Ibsen s play Hedda Gabler, the protagonist, an aristocratic woman from prosperous 19th century Norway, asserts her freedom from societal oppression by killing herself. Considering the socio economic and cultural differences of these female characters, how could their ends be so similar? In this essay, we ll discuss why these late 19th century, early 20th century authors chose to make suicide, or the desire for death (or other drastic behavior), agency for their female characters in these two texts. We ll do this by analyzing the feminist themes of Tagore and Ibsen, in light of the realist/naturalist literary movement at the time; as well as discussing the ways the authors allow for autonomy with their characters as well as the ways they restrict their options in these works. Tagore and Ibsen shared similar literary and philosophical ideas, which helps to explain their realistically conflicted oppressed, yet courageously challenging female characters. Naturalism/realism was the dominant literary trend in the late 19th century, and Tagore and Ibsen featured elements of realism and naturalism in their work. Their stories and plays contained ordinary people in realistic seeming scenarios realism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Allied Pows During World War II, most of the countries, after invading a land, took adversary soldiers who surrendered as prisoners. They were, most of the time, sent to concentration camps. Although the treatment of these prisoners of war (POWs) was different from country to country, it was mostly harsh and ignorant. According to Gavan Daws, a historian, Japanese concentration camps are the ones, where the behavior of the military was the most brutal and ruthless. Although the Japanese Imperial government had vowed to treat prisoners of war with consideration and appreciation, they dealt with the detainees fiercely while medicinal treatment was apathetic. Japanese military is well known as being sadistic and ignorant towards the Allied POWs. The discipline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why were the Japanese so cruel during WWII? Honor is the main reason. The Japanese soldiers were very faithful to their nation. Even nowadays, the honor and patriotism still are extremely strong in Japan. They were taught that if a soldier surrendered and didn t fight till the end being afraid of the death, meant a failure. Consequently, they would be punished and disrespected. Japanese hierarchy worked like a class system. Prisoners were at the last rung. Therefore, any Japanese soldier could chastise them. Physical discipline was allotted for even unimportant infractions, for example, neglecting to salute Japanese military. This meant for a Japanese to lose face. The most widely recognized type of discipline was face slapping. Soldiers used mostly hard instruments, such as a shovel, for this punishment. An Australian surgeon did some research on prisoners. He described the injuries they obtained when they missed work because of the prostration: blows with a fist, hammering over the face and head with wooden clogs, repeatedly thrown to the ground...kicking in the stomach and scrotum and ribs etc ... (The War Diaries of Weary Dunlop). The Japanese utilized numerous sorts of physical discipline. For example, they could force the prisoners to hold a heavy stove above their head for several days with no food or water. Another punishment was to put them in a cage for weeks and not provide them any nutrition. Japanese soldiers made fun of the detainees and their sad lives. The camp was like a show for them. • 7. A Covenant Of The Common Law Rule Critically, a release takes effect immediately. Id. As a consequence, a release immediately discharges any obligation within its scope. Id. Accordingly, because a release has the effect of immediately discharging an obligation, the release is tendered at the time the release is given. Therefore, a release cannot be breached because complete performance is rendered at the moment release is effectuated. In some instances again, generally in the context of joint tortfeasors the common law rule that a release had the effect of discharging an obligation rather than an obligor was perceived to apply too harshly when an obligee gave a release with an obvious intent to only discharge one but not all obligors. Contrary to a release, a covenant not to sue did not have the effect of discharging an obligation, but rather it was a promise made by the obligee to refrain from enforcing the obligation. This distinction permitted a plaintiff to reach a settlement with one joint tortfeasor without discharging the obligation with respect to the remaining obligors. This concept is reflected in the Restatement (Second) of Contracts, which defines a contract not to sue as a contract under which the obligee of a duty promises never to sue the obligor or a third person to enforce the duty or not to do so for a limited time. Restatement (Second) of Contracts § 285. The material distinction between a release and a covenant not to sue is that a release is an immediate discharge, and performance is complete at the time the release is effectuated. A covenant not to sue, on the other hand, is a promise for the maker to undertake some future performance. Stated differently, [d]ischarge by release . . . has long been regarded as an executed transaction rather than an executory promise whereas a covenant not to sue . . . was treated as an executory promise. Isabel has faced many challenges in her life, ranging from her abusive witch like owner Madame Lockton, to choosing whether to side with Great Britain or America. The old man Isabel calls grandfather, tells her, Everything that stands between you and freedom is the River Jordan. When talking about about the River Jordan, her grandfather means that Isabel must overcome her problems (the River Jordan) to find freedom and escape from the brutality of being a slave. There are many things that get in the way of Isabel on her quest to freedom, such as Madame Lockton, choosing sides, finding Ruth, and a potential way Isabel can find freedom. Each ... They used a simile comparing Isabel and the two nations to a ghost trapped in the ground, with Isabel depicted as the ghost. It explained that Isabel is a like ghost trapped in the ground, not with the British nor the Americans. The glowing iron streaked in front of my face like a comet... The man pushed the hot metal against my cheek. It hissed and bubbled. Smoke curled under my nose. They cooked me. (148) This passage clarifies when Isabel gets branded. This part of the story almost broke Isabel s spirit to fight forward and for freedom. Not like her usual self, she followed orders received from Madame and rarely thought about Ruth and her parents. I took a step up. Answer me, you miserable cow. Did you sell my sister? ... She is only 5 years old. I rose another step. She is a baby and you sold her away from me. This is one of the larger complications that add more water to Isabel s River Jordan. Ruth was Isabel s only family left, and she sincerely did care for Ruth, but when Ruth got sold it put Isabel into despair. It was also the cause of Isabel being branded. But Ruth did. The USSR mainly used cult of personality to promote the god like figure of the supreme leader of Stalin. The personality cult and the adulation Stalin received were two of the most striking features of Soviet propaganda. By the end of the 1940s, Stalin dominated the USSR physically as well as politically. His images were found everywhere, as he has already been exaggeratedly deified. Addressing this issue poses a serious challenge for policy makers. How we choose to respond to the threat of global warming is not simply a political issue. It is also an economic issue and an ethical one. Responsible, effective climate change policy requires consideration of a number of complex factors, including weighing the costs of implementing climate change policies against the benefits of more environmentally sustainable practices. Furthermore, this analysis must take place amidst serious gaps in the existing research and technology concerning the developing climatic condition. For these reasons, global ... However, even for those who are less motivated by such moralistic calls to action, the fact remains that conservation is as much an economic issue as an ethical one. While economic considerations are a problematic feature of climate change policy, under the proper analysis, they also serve as an important motivator. Economic analysis that weighs all costs and benefits of a particular model must include environmental considerations. That is to say, the potential for short term economic losses caused by conservation in the present, should be measured against the dividends that conservation will pay in the future (Nordhaus, 2007). If the earth is truly our most valuable commodity, then analysis under these conditions should recognize that if a dollar value were placed on environmental sustainability, more often than not it would outweigh any initial monetary loss resultant of the implementation of more sustainable practices. Indeed, if we accept the danger of global warming to be a real and present one, then the question of how to address it must be given serious consideration. Research conducted from as early as the 1950s through the present has afforded us a solid understanding of its causes. Throughout his Gospel, Mark focuses on accurately revealing Jesus identity to his readers, and explaining why Jesus was destined to die on the Cross. Mark uses his role as an arranger by employing a diverse array of literary tactics to highlight the lessons of his narrative. One of the most effective of these devices is intercalation the process of sandwiching one story between the beginning and ending of a separate story. For most people, this tactic would at first appear as impractical or senseless; however, through this process Mark is able to convey a deeper meaning in the lessons he is hoping to share through the life of Jesus, and what it infers about the nature of God s Kingdom. One of the most notable examples of intercalation in the Gospel of Mark is seen in Mark 5:21 43: the story of the raising of Jairus twelve year old daughter and the woman who suffered from hemorrhages. Through the intercalation of these two passages, Mark is able to express that the boundaries of God s Kingdom expand beyond social status and wealth, and that faith alone is all that is needed to be a part of His divine realm. It is another trait we inherited from them, and it has helped to discipline us as well as to breed hypocrisy among us. (19) These words, which were written by Arthur Miller in 1953, in the description of John Proctor, have given us the explanation of the hypocrisy we have today and will remain within us for a long, perpetual time ahead. Hypocrisy is just one of various universal theme that Miller had endeavored to illustrate while he was writing this story of notorious Salem witch trial in Massachusetts, in the year of 1692. Obviously, Miller did not write the Crucible merely to produce a reminiscence of a wrongful event in the past, but rather he desired to share with people what he had experienced during the time of composing this script. As we wish to analyze the specific point Miller is making about hypocrisy, we need to recognize the relationship between the time and event of Miller s life around the year of 1953, when he wrote the Crucible. For a brief biography about Arthur Miller, he was born in 1915 and passed away in 2005. Miller had lived through the destructive years of World War I and World War II, which strengthen the existence of communism in Europe and Asia. His aim was to gain insight into the unconscious and repressed thoughts, feelings and motivations of people in order to help them understand. Freud focused on bringing the repressed internal conflict (such as development issues or trauma) to a conscious place where the person can easily deal with it. Art is one way in which the individual can express his deepest thoughts by unravelling one s inner feelings, making them visible and vulnerable. When a work of art is created by an artist it reflects his/her beliefs and morale which in turn helps us understand and interpret it more clearly. Frida Kahlo 55 works out of 143 paintings by Frida Kahlo have been devoted to her self portraits. The Impact Of The Spanish Conquest Of Mexico The Spanish Conquest of Mexico and the Aztec people started when Hernán Cortés led the Spanish conquistadors to Tenochtitlán and conquered the Aztec Empire in 1519. The Spaniards had gunpowder, dogs, horses, and armor that would help fight against the Azteca. The Native Americans wanted to only wound their enemies with their woodened clubs tipped and sharp obsidian that was powerful enough to smash the Spaniard s helmets. The use of the double bladed swords helped the Spaniards fight close combat with the Indians. As soon as their chief died the Azteca would back down. Not only did the weapons cause a huge impact on the Aztec but also the spread of diseases such as smallpox that were carried by the Europeans affected the population. After conquering the Indians, the intensions of the Spanish in Mexico was to spread their beliefs about Christianity, find gold and use them as slaves. In drastic ways the Spaniards changed the native communities, for instance plagues spread throughout the whole country side after the defeat of Tenochtitlán. Smallpox, measles, and influenza were the outbreaks that hit urban cities the hardest. In 1520 1521 an outbreak of smallpox caused thousands to die because Azteca medicine was not affective against these diseases. The second outbreak occurred in 1531 and it was smallpox again but combined with measles and the third wave of the disease lasted from 1576 to 1581 killing 300,000 to 400,000 of the Aztec population. • 27. Diary Of Anne Frank Analysis Anne Frank captured the grim reality of life as a Jewish teenager during the Holocaust in her eye opening recollection entitled The Diary of Anne Frank. Her diary brought to light some of the tragic events and atrocities that transpired during World War II and the shocking crimes committed against an entire race. Certain themes prominent throughout the diary reveal the priceless wisdom that can be obtained from the young girl s writings and can be analyzed from a psychological perspective to further understand the unfathomable circumstances in which Anne and her fellow members of the Secret Annexe were forced to endure. It all began on Anne s thirteenth birthday when she was given a diary as a gift. Even before she was forced into hiding, Anne had no one to truly confide in. Because of this, she turned to the diary to spill all her innermost thoughts and experiences as many young girls do. She expressed, I want to write. But more than that, I want to bring out all kinds of things that lie buried deep in my heart, (Frank, 1942). However, the diary quickly turned from a young girl s musings into a priceless piece of a beautiful young soul that was taken too soon and an important piece of history and literature. Due to the persecution of the Jews and their detainment to concentration camps under the Nazi regime, Anne s family soon went into hiding with another Jewish family. They were later joined by a dentist named Mr. Dussel. Despite arguments, grief, illness, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
