The Media s Influence On Contemporary Society
Scholars have debated the media s increasing influence within contemporary society, and shaping
of identities. It has been suggested that the media provides us with limited notions and materials
to brand ourselves, which involve the notion behind being a man or woman and differentiate the
means of bad or good. There are various prominent mediums used by the media to convey or
direct a message. Images from media arbitrated precepts tend to become the conception of the
individual s self. Vigorito and Curry (1998, p. 136) indicate that pop culture is increasingly visual
and images seen in the media tend to convey the ideal cultural norms, values and genderrelations.
These images are not subtle, but explicit notions of what is acceptable in society and how we as
individuals should look and think in the public eye. In the twenty first century, gender equality has
been held in high regard both in the macro and micro levels of social and professional contexts.
Gender is defined by the features society expects from a maleor female depending on their
biological sex. According to multiple scholars, research on masculinityand male depiction has
become a major focus due to gender becoming a social construct subject to historical change. In the
following study I wish to determine how the ideal male and masculinity is understood and defined,
how the male identity and masculinity is portrayed in film, computer games and advertising, and
how these representations have changed over time.

The Industrial Revolution Of The Late Nineteenth And Early...
The industrial revolution of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century served as the impetus
to the creation of new technologies that helped interconnect various parts of the world. In essence,
technology was crucial to the development of a globalized economy. With the development of a
global economy companies began to expand beyond national borders and cater to citizens around
the world by becoming multinational corporations. These now global companies have not only
expanded their markets, but also rely on labor and raw materials from all around the world. For
example, PepsiCoInc. employs a global workforce to drive their business, Apple Inc. acquires
their component supplies from companies spanning the globe, and The Boeing Company uses a
global distribution system in order to market their products to airlines in various regions of the
world. PepsiCo Inc. was established in 1965 with the merger of Pepsi Cola and Frito Lay. Ever
since, the company has been expanding its line of products via acquiring other companies and
creating new brands. For example, PepsiCo introduced the Doritos brand of tortilla chips in 1966,
which became an instant hit. Furthermore, in 1998 PepsiCo acquired Tropicana Products. Over the
past 50 years, PepsiCo has entered over 200 countries such as Japan, Russia, and India even though
domestic sales in the United Stateswere very strong. In 2015, the company employed around
110,000 people in the United States and over 263,000 around the world

Young Goodman Brown, The Scarlett Letter, And The House Of...
Young Goodman Brown: Analysis of his faith
Personal experience plays a vital role when authors decide on the certain topics for their stories. A
factor like religion may determine an author s writing style. For example, an author who may have
had a Christian upbringing may write about faith, hell, or salvation; in contrast, one who had a
negative experience with religion as a child, may hint at departing from their family and finding one
s own religion. A well known author from the 1800s, Nathaniel Hawthorne, implements his
religious upbringing in his stories, Young Goodman Brown, The Scarlett Letter , and The House of
Seven Gables. The use of certain thematic elements in Young Goodman Brown help readers
understand how the main character lost his faith and became bitter towards religious people.
In the year 1804, Nathaniel Hawthorne was born to Massachusetts Bay colonists; Nathaniel
Hathorne and Elizabeth Clarke Manning in Salem, Massachusetts. Hawthorne s great grandfather,
John Hathorne, had the role of judging during the Salem Witch Trials in 1692 (Means).... Show

Faith is also young like her husband. Faith is portrayed as a sweet, pure hearted, innocent woman
who represented Goodman Brown s belief. Her child like innocence is represented with pink
ribbons in her hair throughout the story. Due to the couple being so young and newlyweds,
goodman brown was not strong in his faith and therefore dependent on Faith, his wife s faith to
keep them both accountable Thus, resulting in his own relationship and faith tested (Boonyaprasop
45). When heading into the forest for his exhibition, Goodman Brown was hesitant leaving his wife
alone in Salem. In contrast, Faith, his wife, begged him not to go for he may lose his faith.
Although Faith was not fully on board with Goodman Brown leaving, she remains whole and hopes
he finds the meaning of the exhibition and comes back

Education In Sherman Alexie s Superman And Me
In Sherman Alexie s short story Superman and Me, Alexie writes about his life as an Indian
child growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation in the state of Washington. He depicts his
life from when he was three years old, living on the reservation, up to his current self, as an adult
writer who frequently visits that reservation. He primarily describes his interest in reading and
how it has changed his life for the better. After reading Superman and Me, the reader may realize
that the story is an account of the affect reading had on Alexie s whole life. In turn this leads to the
discovery of the story s theme. The theme of Sherman Alexie s Superman and Me is that education
is valuable, and culture or background do not correlate to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He even explains this when he says, My father loved books, and since I loved my father with an
aching devotion, I decided to love books as well (Alexie 279). Alexie s upbringing shows the
reader that he was not wealthy, but he was still able to be exposed to massive amounts of
literature and therefore could contribute to his education. His family s wealth could be attributed
to less opportunity in life, but in this case, it was not. Alexie goes on to demonstrate how his
passion for reading influenced his childhood. He describes that, before he could even read, he
would recognize what a paragraph was. Alexie explains, I realized that a paragraph was a fence
that held words (Alexie 279). Then, Alexie further explains how he correlated other things in his
life as paragraphs, such as the reservation in respect to the United States or the individual
members of his family. He goes on to clarify how he found the Superman comic and viewed each
panel, with text and illustrations, separately as its own paragraph. Alexie states that while reading
the comic he says, Aloud, I pretend to read the words (Alexie 280). He knew these paragraphs
together told a story and even though he could not read, he used the pictures to assume what the
narrative was saying. With these details of his early beginnings of learning to read, the reader can
further establish that his family s economic status had no

Italian Neorealism ( 1945-1953 )
Italian neorealism (1945 1953), through directors like Roberto Rossellini and Vittorio De Sica,
made its trademark on cinematic history not only in Italy, but also throughout the world. It was
films such as Rome Open City (Roma cittГ aperta, 1945), The Bicycle Thief (Ladri di biciclette,
1948), and Umberto D., (1952) whose style of depicting the harsh economic and social realities of
the poor and working class of Italy took off as a new cinematic style after World War II.
Neorealism is a response to desperate economic situations and often illustrates suffering, poverty,
injustice, and/or discrimination. Many argue that neorealism is a way of seeing reality without
prejudice due to the documentary like technique of the film and its ability... Show more content on

In truth, it is a metaphor for a better tomorrow with the lingering theme of the hope and promise
of children. This theme further emphasized in the final scene of Rome Open City with the
children walking out of frame. With the city of Rome as the backdrop for this final scene, it
offered a sense of renewed hope for the future. Rossellini balances this theme of renewed hope
with trauma and tragedy, in particular the death of the main female character, Pina. The
audience is first introduced to Pina as both a bride to be and mother to be. The to be attached to
mother and bride suggests that there is a future. However, Rossellini brings this future to a
tragic end in the closing scenes of the film. As Pina pushes her way through the apartment
complex courtyard, through a barricade of Nazi soldiers to run after her fiance Francesco who
has been captured. As she is running through the streets, she is tragically shot down and dies in
the middle of the street. Francesco manages to escape Nazi custody, making it a senseless and
pointless death. Not only is this the tragic death of an Italian woman, but also a pregnant one. It
has been said that Rossellini s style is a way of seeing. There is no other visual quite like the one
Rossellini leaves the viewer with in the final scenes of this film. It is in this way that Rossellini is
once again able to highlight characteristics of neorealism in his films. With Pina s death, the
characteristic of revealing the

Pros And Cons Of Concealed Weapons
Christopher Ingraham brings up a very valid point: how would you feel if you couldn t carry a
concealed weapon? Fifty six percent of Americans would feel safer if more people carried
concealed weapons (Ingraham). Now that s not an overwhelming number, but anything over fifty
percent is still a number that gets your attention. The reason for this is there have been a rise in
shootings. People are starting to realize that if they are allowed to carry concealed weapons, they
will have a chance to protect themselves. Ten years ago, only 27 percent of Americans prefered to
be allowed to carry concealed weapons (Ingraham). Now that s an overwhelming difference.
Gun concealment is an ongoing conflict and for a valid reason. Both sides bring up very good
points. Those sides being, we should be allowed to carry concealed weapons and we should not
be able to carry concealed weapons. This is where things get tricky. People carried concealed
weapons anyway. Illegally. With this happening, the people who are not carrying a concealed
weapon are obviously at a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The number of shootings today is absolutely horrendous. The number of shootings that are done to
a fire armless person is even more devastating. The number one way to stop all of these deaths is
to fight fire with fire . People want this to stop. If more states do allow gun concealment, the
amount of gun violence would decline and show an overwhelming difference.

Introduction. D. A. Carson Is Research Professor And Teaches
Introduction
D. A. Carson is research professor and teaches New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity
School and has written nearly fifty books on an extensive range of topics. His Christ and Culture
Revisited is a revisit of H. Richard Niebuhr s five models for seeing the relationship between Christ
and culture. The book is also a revisit of the broader question of Christ and culture in general, and
how it has dramatically changed from Niebuhr s day.
It changed primarily for three reasons: (a) the Church as it is today confronts, and, as a result of
progressions in communication, knows itself to be confronting, not a single culture (Western, say),
but very different cultures across the globe; (b) our contemporary, heightened ... Show more content

His work, for good or ill, has shaped much of the discussion (xi). Even though this is true and we
use Niebuhr s writing to understand the discussion, says Carson, it still has its flaws. It s five
options (1) Christ against Culture, (2) The Christ of Culture, (3) Christ above Culture, (4) Christ
and Culture in Paradox, and (5) Christ the Transformer of Culture come in for review and critique.
Carson looks principally at Niebuhr s use of Scripture, as it bears on his paradigm. Although
Niebuhr s is a commendable attempt to ground his configuration in the foundation documents of the
Christian faith, his effort fails in certain respects. Niebuhr s second option (The Christ of Culture),
for example, in the words of Carson, is certainly found in historical movements (those obligated to
Schleiermacher, F. D. Maurice, or Albrecht Ritschl, the cultural Christians of nineteenth century
classical theological liberalism), these movements, however, are of doubtful Christian authenticity
and have no warrant in the Bible ; and the fifth (Christ the Transformer of Culture) is found in
restricted forms in the New Testament, but certainly not in the strong form Niebuhr would like to
see adopted (40).
Evaluation
The biggest problem for Carson, however, is how Niebuhr

Descriptive Essay About Breakfast
Every morning, my son Pete wakes up at 6:30 AM. I have 2 ВЅ hours to get us both ready for the
day, which seems like it should be plenty of time. But each day the nanny arrives at 9, and I m
never ready to leave! So I started making these freezable breakfast sandwiches to help me get out
the door faster.
I m a personal chef, so I m really fast in the kitchen. Before I had Pete, I never really understood
why people said that they didn t have time to cook breakfast in the morning. Scrambling an egg
takes no time at all! But now I realize, you have to clean the pan, the spatula, your plate, and also
eat the eggs with a fork in your kitchen, all while trying to wrangle the baby in the other arm. In this
new reality, minutes matter.
Finding a quicker breakfast solution
So I wanted a quicker and cleaner way to get my fuel in the morning. While oatmeal and granola
can be nice occasionally, my go to breakfast will always include eggs. They give me longer lasting
energy, plus I almost always prefer savory to sweet. I needed a way to have my eggs quickly,
without having to do any of the actual cooking in the morning. Ideally, something that could be
made in a big batch and frozen in individual portions.
Strata was an early contender. This Vegetable, Egg and Cheddar Strata recipe is one I make for
clients often and it freezes beautifully. But there s a lot of up front prep, a long cook time, and it
still requires a plate and fork. I also considered quiche, my personal brunch favorite. It didn t
make the cut for the same reasons. So then I started thinking of the breakfast sandwiches they
serve at Starbucks. They re pre made, pretty tasty, and always hit the spot when I need a quick
breakfast. I decided to make my own version that I could enjoy at home for a third of the price per
sandwich.
The beautiful thing about these breakfast sandwiches is that they are completely customizable.
Ham, sausage, bacon, turkey bacon, and veggie sausage are all great options. Cheddar is my
favorite cheese choice, but you can use any sliced cheese that melts well. You can even mix
cooked veggies into the eggs to increase your morning fiber intake. Once you get the overall
method down, it s easy to switch it up.

Ebay Inc. ( Ebay )
EBay Inc. (EBAY) is a leading global commerce platform that enables individuals and businesses
to buy and sell products online. Over the past 20 years, it has become one of the largest online
marketplaces, with over 159 million active users around the world and more than 800 million items
for sale. EBays vision is one that is enabled by people, powered by technology, and open to
everyone (What We Do). EBay runs a more decentralized commerce system than Amazon and
other e commerce companies. Their purpose is to act as a facilitator of peer to peer commerce
rather than maintain their own inventory and sell directly to consumers. This gives more power to
eBay marketplace sellers and allows for both auctions and fixed price sales. (EBay vs Amazon)
With new startups on the rise such as Etsy, SellSimple, and Threadflip, along with e commerce
veterans such as Amazon or Alibaba, eBay has to continuously work to improve its services to
maintain its sellers and continue to attract a larger consumer base. (Thomas) Using information
technology and improved information systems has helped eBay achieve their goals and
differentiate the platform in an increasingly competitive market.
In September 1995, eBay founder Pierre Omidyar launched AuctionWeb, an open marketplace for
buyers and sellers. Working alone for almost a year, Omidyar hired his first employee in June
1996, and by July, AuctionWeb had already sold $7.2 million worth of merchandise. In September
1998, eBay went public.

Cardiologist Research Paper
The number one cause of death in America is cardiovascular diseases. Cardiologists and cardiac
surgeons fight the diseases by treating the patient s heart. Cardiologists are doctors who treat
patients with heart and blood vessel diseases. Cardiac surgeons perform surgeries on patients with

Heart professionals have to go through many years of school in order to become a doctor that

Transcendentalism In Henry David Thoreau
The Transcendentalism in Henry David Thoreau Henry David Thoreau once said, It s not what you
look at that matters, it s what you see. Transcendentalists were often less concerned with what they
saw in front of them, and more concerned on what it meant. Transcendentalism is certainly about
forgetting the literal meaning of things and taking into account the divinity of them. Thoreau s
impression of this genre shows up regularly in his works. Henry David Thoreau s independence and
time with Emerson strengthened his as a transcendentalist as shown in Walden and A Winter s Walk.
Henry David Thoreau was a major figure in the transcendentalist movement. He was born in
Concord, Massachusetts on July 12, 1817 ( Henry David Thoreau biography.co). Richard J.
Schneider s article, Thoreau s Life reveals that he went to public school in Concord, then
attended Concord Academy. Thoreau was somewhat different than other children in Concord.
As a child he rarely followed the rules and was independent and strong willed (Brozo, et al. 377).
Being independent as a child shows up very clearly in Thoreau s adult life. Later Schneider
states that Thoreau went to Harvard College and graduated in the top of his class. However, he
had to graduate early because he was very ill and not financially able to continue. Thoreau worked
at many places throughout the years. He taught at a school, worked at his family s pencil factory,
and opened a school with his brother (Schneider). He even worked as a land surveyor (Witherell
and Dubrulle). Thoreau was friends with a great transcendentalist writer, Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Thoreau spent two years living at a place called Walden Pond, which was property of Emerson (
Henry David Thoreau biography.com). As stated in the biography, Henry David Thoreau, He
experimented with working as little as possible rather than engage in the pattern of six days on
with one day off. This may seem like a lazy way of living, but to Thoreau it was something more.
He felt that this new approach helped him avoid the misery he saw around him ( Henry David ).
The hardship that Thoreau was feeling from the world was the public. The public admired
technology and did not appreciate nature like he did. Henry

Not For All The Tea
Not for all the tea in China is a popular phrase in the Victorian era. When Britain prevailed tea, the
most of the tea was from China. Thus, if I give all the Chinese tea to you and you do not want it,
this can tell how determined you are. American writer Sarah Rose wrote a book named For All the
Teain China describes a period of time in the mid 1800s how the British Empirestole tea from
China. The main character Robert Fortune was hired by the East India Company to steal the secrets
of tea horticulture and manufacturing. The Scotsman donned a camouflage and headed into the Wu
Si Shan hills in a bold act of corporate espionage.
In the early 19th Century, Britain s dependence on Chinese tea was caused trade deficit. Britain and
China are conflicting the viewpoint of justice trade in the foreign nationals. Thus, before the war
start,England provided China with opium, grown in India. so then East India Company ship opium
to China; China provided England with the tea. The East India Company though if they know how
to plant the tea, they could produce tea in India instead. The problem was that the best tea all came
from China, and the Chinese tea growers were the only ones who truly knew how to make it good.
Thus, to accomplish this task, Scottish botanist Fortune (Robert Fortune) put on Chinese clothing ,
hired a Chinese coolie attendant, went deep into the Chinese interior, to the best green tea and
black tea growing areas of the country, and stole tea plants,

The Right And Craving Changes For A Better Life
The world has been changing dramatically due to an increase in technology and humans are
now living in the information technology century. Thanks to technology, the living standard of
most humans especially in western countries and emerging economies have been improved.
However, changes may lead to problems. Therefore, changes in the surrounding environment
lead to changes in human s life, behaviour, and mind, which lead to some critical problems as
social and demographic changes result in more educated and skilled employees. As a
consequence, employees expectations in job satisfactions are higher compared to previous
decades. This may lead to problems that employees have in finding secure jobs since the amount
of vacancies available has been taken by more educated people. According to Nankervis, et al.
(2005, p.208), those problems above may have resulted in a narrower access to long term career

The Relationship Between North American Free Trade...
Q1. Examine the various types of regional economic integration. What are the differences between
the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the European Union s level of
integration?(2 pages maximum)
Regional economic integration represents agreements between countries in a geographic region to
reduce tariff and non tariff barriers to the free flow of goods, services and factors of production
between each other. Neighboring countries tend to ally because of their proximity to one another,
somewhat similar regional tastes, the relative ease of establishing channels of distribution and a
willingness to cooperate with one another for the greater benefit of all allied parties. Theoretically,

Customs Union eliminates trade barriers between member countries and adopts a common external
trade policy. Custom union provides for economic cooperation as in a free trade zone. The primary
difference between customs union and free trade area involves members agreeing to treat trade
with non members countries in a similar manner. Most countries who enter a customs union often
desire further integration in the future. For example, the Andean Pact (for agreements between
Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador, and Peru).
Common Market allows for the creation of economically integrated markets between member
countries. Trade barriers are removed, as are any restrictions on the movement of labor and capital
between member countries. Like customs union, there is a common trade policy for trade with
non member nations. The primary advantage of common markets is workers are no longer needing
visa or work permit to work in another member country of a common market. For example, The
Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa or simply known as COMESA.
Economic Union occurs when countries enter into an economic agreement to remove barriers to
trade and adopt common economic policies. European Union or simply known as the EU is an
example of economic union.
The European Union or simply known as the EU is often viewed as an emerging

Renzo Piano is a well known architect, best known for his phantasmagoric architectural
masterpiece, the Shard in London that constitutes a major landmark in О± big city like London.
Designed in 2000, it is the tallest building in the United Kingdom, while being for a while Europe

tallest building.
As Renzo Piano said I don t believe it is possible to build a tall building in London by extruding the
same shape from bottom to top. It would be too small at the bottom and too big at the top.
Likewise, symbols are dangerous. Often tall buildings are aggressive and arrogant symbols of

supporter of the skyscraper, which had been administered planning permission at the end of

labeled the Shard as a spike through the heart of the heritage of London.
Oppositions arose after the plans for the Shard passed through the Council and conservation groups
expressed their concerns about the changing skyline of London and that the skyscraper would
shadow over the Cathedral of St. Paul, the Tower of London. Renzo Piano stated that St. Paul
Cathedral is an extraordinary monument and an intrinsic part of London s heritage. I believe that
the new tower will not disturb its stateliness. They are breathing the same air, sharing the same
atmosphere; they are nurtured at the same source. . It should be mentioned that St Paul s Cathedral,

Resistance Training And Its Effect On Resting Metabolic Rate
The incidence of obesity has increased over the past several decades. In the United States, 68%
of adults are either overweight or obese, and 33% of the population is obese (Miller et al., 2012).
Obesity is associated with comorbidities such as hypertension, type I and II diabetes mellitus,
cardiovascular disease, and a variety of musculoskeletal disorders. The incidence of obesity and its
comorbidities can be prevented and modified with the identification of certain risk factors such as
low levels of physical activity and decreased energyexpenditure that predispose an individual to
obesity. The following research addresses resting metabolic rate (RMR), its effects on caloric
balance, and the effects of physical activity.

The thermic effect of food is the energy expenditure associated with food digestion and absorption,
accounting for 10% of total energy expenditure. Activity thermogenesis is the energy expenditure
during activity and contributes to 15 30% of total energy expenditure (Levine, 2005). The
component of total energy expenditure that an individual can alter the most is activity
thermogenesis by increasing ones physical activity levels, allowing for a greater total of large
muscle movements (Akbulut Rakicioglu, 2011). For activity to occur, the body must supply the
muscles with adenosine triphosphate, ATP, which is a form of energy that allows processes such
as muscle contraction to occur. Calorie expenditure is needed to produce ATP. Energy expenditure
during exercise is increased by lengthening the duration and increasing the intensity of exercise
(Levine, 2005). The third component of total energy expenditure is BMR. BMR is an individual s
energy expenditure at complete rest and typically is measured directly after an individual wakes up
in the morning. BMR accounts for approximately 60% 75% of total energy expenditure (Visser,
Duerenberg, Staveren, Hautvast, 1995). Resting and basal metabolic rate are similar and often are
used interchangeably. BMR requires the subject to spend the night in a hospital or laboratory. It is

Gender Differences In Nonverbal Communication
Gender Differences in Nonverbal Communication Nonverbal communication includes visual cues
known as body language that arise during human interactions. These cues include proximity, body
positions, posture, touch, gestures, facial expressions, and eye contact, and can be as important in
communication as the words actually spoken. Within the category of nonverbal communication,
many variances exist between males and females. Matthew Hertenstein, a psychology professor at
DePauw University, and Dacher Keltner found in a study of U.S. undergraduates that a number of
explanations have been proposed to explain these genderdifferences, some of which emphasize
power and status some of which emphasize the social roles of the genders (Hertenstein and
Keltner 72). Since many differences exist between males and females in how they display
nonverbal communication, it is important to study these distinctions to eliminate confusion and
misunderstanding between genders. Men and women tend to physically approach conversations
and interactions differently. Typically, women prefer to be approached from the front, rather
than from the side or behind, and researchers believe this is based on protection since one can
see the person coming (Reiman). Men, on the other hand, prefer to be approached from the side
or at an angle, because it is less aggressive. While women stand face to face, men tend to sit side by
side, because for men, a face to face position indicates challenge or

Wentworth Institute of Technology was founded by Arioch Wentworth in 1904 by selling his estate
after he died on March 12, 1903. The main purpose of Arioch creating this building was to furnish
education in the mechanical arts for many young men and train them in various skills to prepare for

Throughout this comparison, I wish to discover the characteristics shared by both the Wentworth
Hall and Pantheon and the special meanings behind these two old buildings.
The history of the Pantheon project was originally from the emperor Augustus and built by the
architect Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa. During the reign of the Roman emperor Titus, in
approximately 80 A.D, the Pantheon temple was burned down in a fire. Eventually, the third
Roman emperor Domitian of the Flavian dynasty rebuilt a new temple there, but this one was also
destroyed in a fire in 110 A.D. Around 120 A.D Roman period, King Hadrian rebuilt the third
Pantheon in a more modern style and this is the temple we have today. Apollodorus of Damascus,
who was an architect designer during that period of time, assisted King Hadrian in rebuilding the
best preserved Roman monument, the new Pantheon. The reconstruction of this project started
soon after Hadrian became emperor and it was probably completed by 125 A.D. To honor Agrippa,
Hadrian left a message over the door written in early Greek. Hadrian mentioned that he was the
originally creator who had built the temple.
The Pantheon building has had just a tremendously complex architectural history. When they built
the Pantheon around 120 A.D, the skilled architects applied advanced engineering technology in

Martin Luther Reflection
Many of the characters throughout Once Upon a Timepiece seem to make poor decisions that
affect the lives of many people, and Luther believed wholeheartedly that people should not feel
they deserve go to hell. Someone like Abigail, who looked foolish at the end of her story, may
realize how inconsiderate and greedy she was being, but that does not mean she should feel that
they need to punish herself or condemn herself to hell. In Luther s case, he hated the idea of
indulgences because he felt that people who actually do commit sin end up paying away the good
work of the Lord. But the indulgences meant that rather than beg for forgiveness and the mercy of
God, whoever has confessed and is contrite and puts alms in the box, as his confessor counsels
him, will have all of his sins forgiven (Pettegree 68). Yet, it is also important to note that Luther did
believe in salvation, just simply as good deeds and prayers rather than money.
Martin Luther in his adolescence truly believed that he could not reach salvation or stand on good
terms with God. The teachings of the Catholic Church seemed to do no good for him, so he took it
upon himself with the help of his father in Christ to study theology at the University of Wittenberg.
By studying and worshiping the scriptures themselves rather than the preaching of the church, he
found himself at peace with God. Similar to Luther, Conrad, whom wore the watch that read may

Food And Cultural Suppropriation In The Culture Of Food
Mahatma Gandhi once said, there are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to
them except in the form of bread . Food is one of the many things that is appreciated and loved
by everyone all around the world. Each geographical region of the world most likely has its own
type of food or some kind of variation to it which eventually adds up to a lot of cuisines. The
larger the number of regions, the larger the number of cuisines. So, one must be thinking, how does
food relate to cultural appropriation? What is the relationship between them? In depth, everyone
eats or at least tries a dish that is not particularly from his or her culturewhich is completely okay
but it becomes a problem when one steals an aspect or a factor from a culture and try to change it
to make it theirs. This is where the term cultural appropriation comes in play. This issue is big these
days, and also the most discussed about because culture is very important and sensitive to many.
Cultural appropriation is the utilization of an element from one culture by the people from another
culture without having a permission granted. The elements could be a culture s traditions, food,
style, fashion, beliefs and such. For example, restaurants or food chains using the Indian term chai
in their drink names. Chai means teabut there are so many drinks out there that are named Chai
Tea Latte or Chai Tea Mocha which makes zero sense because chai is tea. As an Indian myself, I

Is Realism an Obsolete Theory, or Is It More Relevant Than...
Realism, as a way of interpreting international relations has often been conceived to be closely
tied to the Cold War. Realism, rooted in the experience of World War II and the Cold War, is said
to be undergoing a crisis of confidence largely because the lessons adduced do not convincingly
apply directly to the new realities of international relationsin the twenty first century (Clinton
2007:1) Worse still, if policymakers steadfastly adhere to realist precepts, they will have to navigate
the unchartered seas of the post Cold Wardisorder with a Cold War cartography, and blind devotion
to realismcould compromise their ability to prescribe paths to a more orderly and just system.

And with this, comes the realist concept of national interest. Realist ideology, statism, specifically,
suggests that survival and sovereignty of the state is its primary goals, and the very condition of
its existence. With this said, states do have the ability to take care of other actors interests and
needs in the international community out of something that could be called a moral responsibility
, but only if it somehow serves its own national interests in the process. Morgenthau (1949)
explains that state actors who pursue certain national interests and act aggressively resort to liberal
sentiment, as a convenient means of justifying their behaviour in the eyes of both the international
community, and their own people. This is not to say however, that some states are sincere in
certain good hearted pursuits. But it is indeed true that moral principles prove to be serviceable to
national interest (Morgenthau 1949:207). Machiavelli goes so far as to claim that morality is the
product of power (Carr 2001:63). Take for example the nineteenth century, in which the British
Empire was the global hegemon at the time. As a reason to explain imperialism and its colonial
aspirations, they advertised the theory of the White Man s Burden as a moral and social norm, in

Ending Of A Tale Of Two Cities
In literature, endings need to supply the readers with a sense of satisfaction and completion for
the novel to conclude well. If the author does not accomplish this, the book is seen as being
insufficient for the general audience. In A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens, the author
ends the story in three chapters, one chapter for each set of characters. Each of these chapters
wraps up the characters stories, leaving behind very few questions about the literature itself. Not
only does this ending appropriately conclude the novel, but it also leaves the readers with
questions about themselves and their view on the world, encouraging the readers toward self
reflection. One of the main objectives of a novel s ending is to wrap up the loose ends
surrounding the protagonist. Some literature does this successfully, others choose to leave the
protagonist s life open to interpretation: One can depart. Forward, my postilions! A good journey!
I salute you, citizens. And the first danger passed! These are again the words of Jarvis Lorry, as
he clasps his hands, and looks upward. There is terror in the carriage, there is weeping, there is
the heavy breathing of the insensible traveller. [...] Out of the open country, in again among
ruinous buildings, solitary farms, dye works, tanneries and the like, cottages in twos and threes,

Analysis Of The Poem A Sorrowful Woman
Once upon a time there was a wife and mother one too many times (Godwin 39). This short story
begins with the famous opening, once upon a time, which foreshadows that the story line will be
similar to a fairy tale. It raises expectations for the story that all will be magical and end happily. A
typical modern day fairy taleis that of a distressed character who overcomes an obstacle, falls in
love with prince charming, and they ride off into the sunset; living happily ever after never to be
heard from again. Godwin however, puts an unexpected twist on A Sorrowful Woman . This short

Divorce from marriage would break the bounds of normality for this time period. Traditionally,
women were stay at home who tended to the children, house chores, and duties when needed.
Purposely, Godwin doesn t give the characters names. This is important because it implies that the
characters are not people, but they represent their role within the family. Godwin mocks a fairy tale
by having the characters actions contradict expectations. This is shown when the mother is literally
sick at the sight of her family (Godwin 39). Also when the child pretends to be a tiger and
scratches the mother, scaring her off so she didn t want to be alone with the boy anymore. The
husband doesn t save the wife from her state, he simply understands it and finds other solutions.
He hires a girl to help care for the boy, but the mother resents this. The mother wishes to be happy
with her roles but she cannot accept them, and despises the perfect girl for doing what she is
unable to (Godwin 40 41 ).
The mother leads a life where her duties and societal expectations are met, but by doing this her
happiness is lost. Once upon a time implies that she thought her life as a wife and mother would
be perfect. The wife even attempts to find new roles to replace the ones she holds which do not suit
her, She tried these personalities on like costumes, then discarded them (Godwin 42).

The Framework And Statutory Frameworks
The workforce has developed rapidly over the years in relation to policy and statutory
frameworks, with an emphasis upon the national curriculum in relation to literacy. The
frameworks is influenced by political aspects by theoretical and political aspects. This has been
reflected within practice as policy brings change and implications for practitioners and
managers. Research has gone a long way to implement the revised national curriculum which
was due to the concerns raised due to the fact as a country we are falling behind on the national
league tables as we are in position 23 (DfEE, 2013), which is quite disappointing as English is
our first language within Britain, and we have made no improvements within the last three years
(DfEE, 2013). The Greeks did not just invent an alphabet; they invented literacy and literature
basis of modern thought (Blake, 2002. et al). Therefore, schooling became longer because after
an extended period of learning to read and write, children had become exposed to the literary of
culture. Pupils are now learning about the world through reading in classrooms (King, 2000). Our
view of literacy needs to be critically examined rather than accepted unquestioningly. As Tobin et
al, (1989) so fascinatingly demonstrates, our values affect our curriculum and our judgements of
children (Marsh et al, 2008, p.24). A need to bring an internal change is necessary for people to
live well in an environmentally responsible society which builds a

At the beginning of the episode when people are warned that there will be a hurricane, everyone
turns on each other by stealing, fighting and breaking things, for their own personal wealth, not
worrying about anyone else, the creators of the show purposefully exaggerate, this is in
reference to what would happen in anarchy, or post apocalyptic events, movies such as, The
Purge, Mad Max 2 and I am Legend cover this topic in more depth. Later in the episode, Ned
Flanders asks, why did the hurricane destroy only my house, I donate to 8 different churches and
follow everything the bible says. This is making fun of how much he heavily relies on the several
churches to bring him security and wealth, this pokes fun at the people in society think that giving
to a church or several different churches will grant them safety or wealth. Another satirical
moment was in Ned Flanders flashback to when he was young, when his parents couldn t control
him, because they didn t believe in rules, they went to a doctor and told him, we ve tried nothing
and we re all out of ideas. The creators of the show are making fun of the parents that don t

The Importance Of Animals In The Old Testament
If one were to ask what the most important animals in the Old Testament are, some of the most
common answers would be: doves, lambs, sheep, cows, and lions. However, people often forget
about the importance goats play in the Old Testament. Throughout the Old Testament goats play a
variety of important roles in everything from religious ceremonies, to everyday life, and even
measurement of wealth.
Goats Used For Religious Purposes God instructs animals are acceptable to use in religious
contexts. In Exodus 26:7, 36:14 15 God instructs the Israelites to make curtains for the tabernacle,
or the tent of the tabernacle as it is often referred to. The curtains were woven long enough to
hang from the top of the tabernacle, to the floor while keeping the first layer of curtains hidden
from sight. This symbolizes separation from the holiest place and the outside, and protection
from the elements. It is also said goat horns where used to hold oil for the tabernacle. Goats were
also used for sacrifices and offerings due to the covenant in place with God s people, sacrifices
where required for forgiveness as there couldn t be forgiveness without bloodshed. Goats were one
of the several animals used in sin offerings, (Ex 20:24; Lev 23:19; 2 Chr 29:21; Eze 43:25)
atonement offerings, (Lev 4:22 26) and fellowship offerings (Numbers 7).

Visual Arts of the Italian High Renaissance
Oscar Wilde, through the character Cyril in his essay The Decay of Lying, states that Life

represents what is truly real (Wilde 38). While this argument may be possibly be true, but standing
between what we call reality and the world of the artistic resides the artist, who ultimately decides
how to present the world to his audience. Artists during the Renaissance and the later part of the

In the United States, it is an unacceptable act. States are allowed to enact laws permitting assisted
suicide. A solution to this problem is to create a law to make it legal. If anyone had a problem
with this law, they can go to court to talk about it. Court will only try to convince them of the
benefits of Assisted Suicide. Another solution is to talk live on TV and explain the benefits of
this. The government can convince the country of everything good to it. They will help this issue
by explaining to the country how it really works. Only a few places Assisted Suicide is legal.
Oregon was the first state to permit Assisted Suicide. In 1991, the citizens of Oregon voted to
legalize a highly controversial practice called physician assisted suicide in their state. In 1994,
Oregon signed the Death with Dignity Act, allowing a terminally ill person meeting certain point to
end their own life with the help of a doctor. The death with dignity act was written with several
safeguards that are intended to protect the vulnerable, weak, sick, elderly, and others from being
taken advantage of. In this case, physicians may not be forced to participate in the Death with
Dignity Act. In 1997, President William Jefferson Clinton signed the Assisted Suicide Funding
Restriction act. Montana, Oregon, and Washington legalized physician assisted suicide. California

Why Walmart announces sustainability strategy?
There is no need to introduce its background anymore; I think everyone knows the super

of Walmart Scott announced to do the business sustainabilitystrategy in 2005. The sustainability
will be the most focused in the 21century when the environment get worse every day. This strategy

2. Zero Waste
To reduce the waste of packaging, Walmart try to work with their suppliers to develop solutions to
product packaging and developed an online packaging scorecard to gather information and monitor
their product packaging. In some extent the saving waste is also making money. Zero waste also
means that they can cut down the cost happened.
3. Sustainable Product
Walmart consistently exams the how long the product can work, including the materials which is
used in them, the factories or farms where they were made to provide sustainable products. As the
world s largest supermarket retailer, Walmart makes an important impact on the way jewelry goes
from individuals to the market. They never stop searching the reform of the retailer. By integrating
more sustainable fibers into the clothing and textiles, Walmart is working to provide their
customers with both environmentally preferable and fashionable clothing options at the prices
which they can afford. Especially for its major products in the supermarket, such as agricultural and
seafood, Walmart helps farmers to expand their businesses like cluster farming, mariner reserves, to
make more money and reduce the environmental impact of farming. Conclusions
I think every business event happens due to the economic reason so as this case. Walmart announce
its sustainability strategy. If the business always keeps the same way to make money, it will never
be successful. This innovation

Fascism Vs Fascism
Plato once wrote, The heaviest penalty for declining to rule is to be ruled by someone inferior to
yourself . It would be impossible for him to guess this quote would be taken very literally among
ruler after ruler in history. Unfortunately, not every person who took this piece seriously was the
best choice in leadership. Adolf Hitlerof Germany and Benito Mussolini of Italy were leaders who
used elements of fascismin order to promote their vision of a new world. Although they both had
similarities in their regimes, they also had great differences in leading their country.
The term fascist is thrown around in politics and heated debates without much respect for how
heavy the term truly is. Before diving into the different extents to which fascism was carried out
in Italy and Germany, it is important to take a moment and discuss what the term is. According to
Merriam Webster dictionary, fascism is a, political philosophy, movement, or regime... that exalts
nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government
headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression
of opposition , as well as, a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial
control . With such a harsh definition, some would believe it would be simple to create a
framework for all fascist dictators, yet that could not be further from the truth. Although it may be
difficult to define fascism to a

Examples Of Manipulation In King Lear
Rationale
Humans are easily manipulated creatures. The inability to understand, perceive and interpret
things with clarity can be seen as a very dangerous flaw in the design of human beings, as this
shortcoming may lead to the demise of an individual or even a group of people. The manner in
which vision and perception of certain characters in Shakespeare s play King Lear is obscured, is a
testament of just that. Through very unique literal and figurative writing, Shakespeare clearly
demonstrates to the audience or reader just how easily deceived human beings can be. A perfect
example of this revelation is the character, the Earl of Gloucester, who is the helpless victim of
conniving manipulation, cleverly conducted by his illegitimate son, Edmund. ... Show more content

When we are first introduced to Gloucester and Edmund, the Earl introduces Edmund as his
bastard son while joking about the manner in which Edmund was conceived. We are made to
understand that this is Gloucester s routine introduction of Edmund to anyone who might want
to know the identity of his son. As revenge for always being the black sheep and joke of the
family, Edmund decides to devise a plan which sees him rise to power. This is a clear example
of Gloucester s inability to realise that by continuously mocking and devaluing Edmund as a
person, he has brewed a strong resentment and hate within Edmund. In a series of tragic events
which unfold successively, Gloucester is made to believe by Edmund that his legitimate son,
Edgar, is concocting a plan to kill the Earl. Credulous as he is, the Earl blatantly believes Edmund
s fabricated story. This is a very clear figurative example of the blindness aspect in King

A Diagnosis for Mr. Fix-it
Mr. Fix it is a 59 year old man with a history of alcohol abuse and diabetic hypertension. Mr. Fix it
has been currently experiencing symptoms such as: rambling speech, poor short term memory,
weakness on the left side of his body, neglects both visual and auditory stimuli to his left side,
difficulty with rapid visual scanning, difficulty with complex visual, perceptual and constructional
tasks, unable to recall nonverbal materials, and mild articulatory problems. The diagnosis for Mr.
Fix it s problem is most likely a right hemisphere stroke. A right hemisphere stroke is occurs when
a blood clot blocks a vessel in the brain, or when there is a torn vessel bleeding into the brain. A
right hemisphere stroke is common in adults who have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Broca s area gives an individual the motor ability to speak. Damage to this area may cause an
individual to have difficulty speaking. For instance, not only does Mr. Fix it demonstrate
incoherent speech, he also has a mild articulatory problem, in which it would be difficult for the
patient to say certain words or say it in an unusual accent.
This type of symptom is very common in people who have suffered from a right hemisphere stroke.
Since the frontal lobe is also responsible for the ability to sequence tasks successfully, damage to
this lobe has caused the patient with difficulty to execute constructional tasks. For example, Mr.
Fix it may have difficulty in things such as building a bike or putting pieces of a puzzle together,
in which the patient can possibly now have constructional apraxia due to the stroke taking place
in the right hemisphere. Because the patient has suffered damage from a right hemisphere stroke;
he has experienced paresis to the left side of the body. Right sided hemiparesis causes injury to
the left side of the brain, in which its functions include the ability of language and speaking (
Hemiparesis , 2011). The damage that occurred on the right hemisphere may cause Mr. Fix it, to
have acute balance on the left side of his body, in which it may be difficult for the patient to
perform everyday tasks, such as, putting on his clothes. Furthermore, due to weakness on the left

The two main characters in the novel, Rick Deckard and John Isidor do not meet until the end of

Rick is a bounty hunter who has inherited the duty to rid the world of androids. Whereas John lives

Complications Of Social Disorganization
Criminal justice professionals utilize social disorganization to predict future trends in criminal
behavior. Many factors influence and control social disorganization; this paper will explain
exactly what social disorganization is, as well as its relationship or connection to organized crime
and criminal behavior. Today s corrupt political groups can have a direct and immediate effect on
social disorganization, as well as organized criminal activity ( Social Disorganization and Rural
Communities , 2003).
What is Social Disorganization? According to Bursik, (1988), the definition of social
disorganization is an inability of community members to achieve shared values or to solve jointly
experienced problems . Both theoretical and empirical research has focused on urban settings when
studying influencers on crime and delinquencies. Current versions of social disorganization theory
assume that strong social relationships will prevent crime and delinquency ( Social
Disorganization and Rural Communities , 2003). Crime can become more prevalent spawned
from neighborhoods with close living conditions such as apartment complexes or duplexes. Crime
rates can also be higher in areas that have a breakdown in the family unit. An example of family
unit breakdown could be a single parent family and divorce. Children that have a lack of social
control, order, and often turn to criminal activity many times come from these affected
neighborhoods ( Crime Social

Germ Theory Of Disease By Robert Koch And Louis Pasteur
Introduction
In the nineteenth century, two famous scientists Robert Koch and Louis Pasteur formally
demonstrated that microorganisms were the cause of many diseases. This proposition has become
known as Germ Theory of Disease . Not that this notion had never been touched before on the
contrary, there have been ancient mentions as old as 36 BC from a roman scholar, Marcus
Terentius Varro, that stated: certain minute creatures, which cannot be seen by the eyes, which float
in the air and enter the body through the mouth and nose, and there cause serious diseases . The
concept of Germ Theory of Disease suffered a major overturn in the twentieth century, when
Metchnikoff showed that microorganisms could also act as beneficial agents and health promoters.
Was there then launched the basis for what we now call probiotics. Thus, today we know we are,
one way or the other, vastly colonized by microorganisms. It is certainly clear that these
microorganisms are present forming heterogeneous and specific communities over large body
surfaces. These colonization processes occur primarily on skin, vagina and the gastrointestinal tract.
Even so, our body has a remarkable ability to protect itself against microbial invasions. Within the
human body resides a salient protection mechanism called immune system prepared to defend the
body against millions of bacteria, viruses, toxins and parasites. However, how does the immune
system enable the body to accept a vast amount of

Outliers, By Malcolm Gladwell
Outliers, a statistical observation that is markedly different in value from the others of the
sample. This basically states that anything that lies outside of the norm is an outlier. In the book
Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell he focuses on the different set of skills, timing, background, and
effort a successful person needs to have in order to become successful. Unlike most books or
biographies that write about the intelligence and ambition of an individual, this book looks
around the individuals, instead of directly at them. Gladwell look at the outliers of these
individuals, and determines how they have become successful, either by their skill, their luck,
their effort, and their whole background and what lies around them. Gladwell had several ideas
he had based people s successes on, one of which were their skills. He focused on whether a
person was capable of being successful in their career path. Not just their IQ, or their ability to
perform a task well, but whether their social skills were also capable or not. Gladwell states that
it is not possible to make it far alone, so he would check to see if an individual wasn t an
awkward loner who excelled in only academically. Gladwell would not only look at SAT scores
and how well they did in school, but look at how creative or innovative an individual was.
Another concept that Gladwell looked at was the timing of their birth, or the importance of their
birth. Gladwell was able to look at the trends and how well one was

Juliet Capulet Quotes
Juliet Capulet Juliet Capulet lived a very short life. Although her life was short, she lived a
passionate adventuresome romance with a forbidden love, Romeo Montague. William Shakespeare
created a masterpiece when he created Juliet in the tragic play Romeo and Juliet. Her exquisite
beauty and personal charm is among the finest in literature. Romeo s description of her captures
this perfectly when he says Juliet is the sun and the brightness of her cheek would shame the stars.

during the 1400 s. In Verona there were two major households. These households were the Capulets

Falling in love with him changed her. She is loving, witty, loyal, strong, and willing to take risks
so that she and Romeo can be together. When Romeo and Juliet kiss at the feast, Juliet teases
Romeo for using the popular imagery of love poetry to express his feelings and for kissing
according to convention rather than from the heart: You kiss by th book. This shows that even
though they have a high risk relationship it is also very playful. Juliet isn t naive enough to think
that their relationship is all fun and games. It is too rash, too unadvis d, too sudden This quote
shows that she is aware of how risky their relationship is. Her decision to continue the

Discrimination In Race By Marc Aronson
Freedom from Discrimination
Today, India is a free country, but this country s history to freedom was not pleasant. Britain, a
country that occupied many territories, came to conquer India for its valuables. During this time,
they treated Indians poorly and stole all the goods of the country to trade. This rule continued for
nearly two hundred years, and India struggled to fight for freedom from 1857 to 1947. On August
15, 1947, India finally gained its independence through the India Independence Act passed by the
British House of Common. The British House of Commons is the UK parliament that is part of the
legislative branch. The act stated that India would be divided into two dominions, India and Pakistan
, thus granting Pakistan independence on August 14 and Indian independence on August 15. Marc
Aronson, in his book Race, explores and examines the concept of race where the reasoning behind
racial discrimination can be seen. Aronson provides the four pillars of race, which show an
ideology behind racism that occurs universally. During the British rule in India, the British racially
discriminated Indians. As a result of the discrimination, Britain ... Show more content on

The U.s. Automotive Market
The U.S. automotive market has had its fair share of challenges in the last ten years. In 2005,
gas prices started to surge wildly out of control peaking at their highest levels in mid 2008 that
directly impacted sales of less efficient vehicles. ( Historical Price Charts , 2015) Since the bulk of
the profit margins the Big 3 automakers generate is in the SUV and full size product categories, the
consumer shift to more economical vehicles directly impacted the automaker s profitability. As the
U.S. continued a slide into a full recession, auto manufacturers were faced with a financial crisis of

based automobile manufacturers. As one of the largest industries in the U.S., the top manufacturers
rely primarily on their domestic market, along with Canada, to sustain their business. ( BERA:
Issue 2 Automotive Industry: Global Automotive Industry , 2015)
The current business model for auto manufacturers is to locate their assembly plants as close to the
market as possible. As such, most manufacturers have plants located regionally near the countries
they are selling and marketing their vehicles. The hard and soft costs associated with transporting
large shipments of vehicles around the globe (time in transit as well as the cost of moving the
goods) means foreign automotive manufacturers must build their vehicles in the U.S. if they are to
be competitive. (Coffin, 2013)
There are many foreign competitors that have entered the U.S. market by either importing or
assembling their products in the United States. Foreign manufacturers to compete effectively in the
U.S. by assembling their products in the United States. However; there is still a stigma with
purchasing foreign engineered vehicles. To combat this in the U.S. and abroad, various
manufacturers have partnered with unlikely allies to product joint ventures. (Coffin, 2013) These
unlikely matches allow both manufacturers to take advantage of either specific technology (as is
in the case of GM and Toyota) or to take on the role as a supplier (as is

  • 3. The Media s Influence On Contemporary Society Scholars have debated the media s increasing influence within contemporary society, and shaping of identities. It has been suggested that the media provides us with limited notions and materials to brand ourselves, which involve the notion behind being a man or woman and differentiate the means of bad or good. There are various prominent mediums used by the media to convey or direct a message. Images from media arbitrated precepts tend to become the conception of the individual s self. Vigorito and Curry (1998, p. 136) indicate that pop culture is increasingly visual and images seen in the media tend to convey the ideal cultural norms, values and genderrelations. These images are not subtle, but explicit notions of what is acceptable in society and how we as individuals should look and think in the public eye. In the twenty first century, gender equality has been held in high regard both in the macro and micro levels of social and professional contexts. Gender is defined by the features society expects from a maleor female depending on their biological sex. According to multiple scholars, research on masculinityand male depiction has become a major focus due to gender becoming a social construct subject to historical change. In the following study I wish to determine how the ideal male and masculinity is understood and defined, how the male identity and masculinity is portrayed in film, computer games and advertising, and how these representations have changed over time. ... • 4. The Industrial Revolution Of The Late Nineteenth And Early... The industrial revolution of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century served as the impetus to the creation of new technologies that helped interconnect various parts of the world. In essence, technology was crucial to the development of a globalized economy. With the development of a global economy companies began to expand beyond national borders and cater to citizens around the world by becoming multinational corporations. These now global companies have not only expanded their markets, but also rely on labor and raw materials from all around the world. For example, PepsiCoInc. employs a global workforce to drive their business, Apple Inc. acquires their component supplies from companies spanning the globe, and The Boeing Company uses a global distribution system in order to market their products to airlines in various regions of the world. PepsiCo Inc. was established in 1965 with the merger of Pepsi Cola and Frito Lay. Ever since, the company has been expanding its line of products via acquiring other companies and creating new brands. For example, PepsiCo introduced the Doritos brand of tortilla chips in 1966, which became an instant hit. Furthermore, in 1998 PepsiCo acquired Tropicana Products. Over the past 50 years, PepsiCo has entered over 200 countries such as Japan, Russia, and India even though domestic sales in the United Stateswere very strong. In 2015, the company employed around 110,000 people in the United States and over 263,000 around the world ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Young Goodman Brown, The Scarlett Letter, And The House Of... Young Goodman Brown: Analysis of his faith Personal experience plays a vital role when authors decide on the certain topics for their stories. A factor like religion may determine an author s writing style. For example, an author who may have had a Christian upbringing may write about faith, hell, or salvation; in contrast, one who had a negative experience with religion as a child, may hint at departing from their family and finding one s own religion. A well known author from the 1800s, Nathaniel Hawthorne, implements his religious upbringing in his stories, Young Goodman Brown, The Scarlett Letter , and The House of Seven Gables. The use of certain thematic elements in Young Goodman Brown help readers understand how the main character lost his faith and became bitter towards religious people. In the year 1804, Nathaniel Hawthorne was born to Massachusetts Bay colonists; Nathaniel Hathorne and Elizabeth Clarke Manning in Salem, Massachusetts. Hawthorne s great grandfather, John Hathorne, had the role of judging during the Salem Witch Trials in 1692 (Means).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Faith is also young like her husband. Faith is portrayed as a sweet, pure hearted, innocent woman who represented Goodman Brown s belief. Her child like innocence is represented with pink ribbons in her hair throughout the story. Due to the couple being so young and newlyweds, goodman brown was not strong in his faith and therefore dependent on Faith, his wife s faith to keep them both accountable Thus, resulting in his own relationship and faith tested (Boonyaprasop 45). When heading into the forest for his exhibition, Goodman Brown was hesitant leaving his wife alone in Salem. In contrast, Faith, his wife, begged him not to go for he may lose his faith. • 6. Education In Sherman Alexie s Superman And Me In Sherman Alexie s short story Superman and Me, Alexie writes about his life as an Indian child growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation in the state of Washington. He depicts his life from when he was three years old, living on the reservation, up to his current self, as an adult writer who frequently visits that reservation. He primarily describes his interest in reading and how it has changed his life for the better. After reading Superman and Me, the reader may realize that the story is an account of the affect reading had on Alexie s whole life. In turn this leads to the discovery of the story s theme. The theme of Sherman Alexie s Superman and Me is that education is valuable, and culture or background do not correlate to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He even explains this when he says, My father loved books, and since I loved my father with an aching devotion, I decided to love books as well (Alexie 279). Alexie s upbringing shows the reader that he was not wealthy, but he was still able to be exposed to massive amounts of literature and therefore could contribute to his education. His family s wealth could be attributed to less opportunity in life, but in this case, it was not. Alexie goes on to demonstrate how his passion for reading influenced his childhood. He describes that, before he could even read, he would recognize what a paragraph was. Alexie explains, I realized that a paragraph was a fence that held words (Alexie 279). Then, Alexie further explains how he correlated other things in his life as paragraphs, such as the reservation in respect to the United States or the individual members of his family. He goes on to clarify how he found the Superman comic and viewed each panel, with text and illustrations, separately as its own paragraph. Alexie states that while reading the comic he says, Aloud, I pretend to read the words (Alexie 280). He knew these paragraphs together told a story and even though he could not read, he used the pictures to assume what the narrative was saying. With these details of his early beginnings of learning to read, the reader can further establish that his family s economic status had no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Italian Neorealism ( 1945-1953 ) Italian neorealism (1945 1953), through directors like Roberto Rossellini and Vittorio De Sica, made its trademark on cinematic history not only in Italy, but also throughout the world. It was films such as Rome Open City (Roma cittГ aperta, 1945), The Bicycle Thief (Ladri di biciclette, 1948), and Umberto D., (1952) whose style of depicting the harsh economic and social realities of the poor and working class of Italy took off as a new cinematic style after World War II. Neorealism is a response to desperate economic situations and often illustrates suffering, poverty, injustice, and/or discrimination. Many argue that neorealism is a way of seeing reality without prejudice due to the documentary like technique of the film and its ability... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In truth, it is a metaphor for a better tomorrow with the lingering theme of the hope and promise of children. This theme further emphasized in the final scene of Rome Open City with the children walking out of frame. With the city of Rome as the backdrop for this final scene, it offered a sense of renewed hope for the future. Rossellini balances this theme of renewed hope with trauma and tragedy, in particular the death of the main female character, Pina. The audience is first introduced to Pina as both a bride to be and mother to be. The to be attached to mother and bride suggests that there is a future. However, Rossellini brings this future to a tragic end in the closing scenes of the film. As Pina pushes her way through the apartment complex courtyard, through a barricade of Nazi soldiers to run after her fiance Francesco who has been captured. As she is running through the streets, she is tragically shot down and dies in the middle of the street. Francesco manages to escape Nazi custody, making it a senseless and pointless death. Not only is this the tragic death of an Italian woman, but also a pregnant one. It has been said that Rossellini s style is a way of seeing. There is no other visual quite like the one Rossellini leaves the viewer with in the final scenes of this film. It is in this way that Rossellini is once again able to highlight characteristics of neorealism in his films. With Pina s death, the characteristic of revealing the ... • 9. Pros And Cons Of Concealed Weapons Christopher Ingraham brings up a very valid point: how would you feel if you couldn t carry a concealed weapon? Fifty six percent of Americans would feel safer if more people carried concealed weapons (Ingraham). Now that s not an overwhelming number, but anything over fifty percent is still a number that gets your attention. The reason for this is there have been a rise in shootings. People are starting to realize that if they are allowed to carry concealed weapons, they will have a chance to protect themselves. Ten years ago, only 27 percent of Americans prefered to be allowed to carry concealed weapons (Ingraham). Now that s an overwhelming difference. Gun concealment is an ongoing conflict and for a valid reason. Both sides bring up very good points. Those sides being, we should be allowed to carry concealed weapons and we should not be able to carry concealed weapons. This is where things get tricky. People carried concealed weapons anyway. Carson is research professor and teaches New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and has written nearly fifty books on an extensive range of topics. His Christ and Culture Revisited is a revisit of H. Richard Niebuhr s five models for seeing the relationship between Christ and culture. The book is also a revisit of the broader question of Christ and culture in general, and how it has dramatically changed from Niebuhr s day. It changed primarily for three reasons: (a) the Church as it is today confronts, and, as a result of progressions in communication, knows itself to be confronting, not a single culture (Western, say), but very different cultures across the globe; (b) our contemporary, heightened ... It s five options (1) Christ against Culture, (2) The Christ of Culture, (3) Christ above Culture, (4) Christ and Culture in Paradox, and (5) Christ the Transformer of Culture come in for review and critique. Carson looks principally at Niebuhr s use of Scripture, as it bears on his paradigm. Although Niebuhr s is a commendable attempt to ground his configuration in the foundation documents of the Christian faith, his effort fails in certain respects. Niebuhr s second option (The Christ of Culture), for example, in the words of Carson, is certainly found in historical movements (those obligated to Schleiermacher, F. D. Maurice, or Albrecht Ritschl, the cultural Christians of nineteenth century classical theological liberalism), these movements, however, are of doubtful Christian authenticity and have no warrant in the Bible ; and the fifth (Christ the Transformer of Culture) is found in restricted forms in the New Testament, but certainly not in the strong form Niebuhr would like to see adopted (40). • 11. Descriptive Essay About Breakfast Every morning, my son Pete wakes up at 6:30 AM. I have 2 ВЅ hours to get us both ready for the day, which seems like it should be plenty of time. But each day the nanny arrives at 9, and I m never ready to leave! So I started making these freezable breakfast sandwiches to help me get out the door faster. I m a personal chef, so I m really fast in the kitchen. Before I had Pete, I never really understood why people said that they didn t have time to cook breakfast in the morning. Scrambling an egg takes no time at all! But now I realize, you have to clean the pan, the spatula, your plate, and also eat the eggs with a fork in your kitchen, all while trying to wrangle the baby in the other arm. In this new reality, minutes matter. Finding a quicker breakfast solution So I wanted a quicker and cleaner way to get my fuel in the morning. While oatmeal and granola can be nice occasionally, my go to breakfast will always include eggs. They give me longer lasting energy, plus I almost always prefer savory to sweet. I needed a way to have my eggs quickly, without having to do any of the actual cooking in the morning. Ideally, something that could be made in a big batch and frozen in individual portions. Strata was an early contender. This Vegetable, Egg and Cheddar Strata recipe is one I make for clients often and it freezes beautifully. But there s a lot of up front prep, a long cook time, and it still requires a plate and fork. I also considered quiche, my personal brunch favorite. It didn t make the cut for the same reasons. So then I started thinking of the breakfast sandwiches they serve at Starbucks. They re pre made, pretty tasty, and always hit the spot when I need a quick breakfast. I decided to make my own version that I could enjoy at home for a third of the price per sandwich. The beautiful thing about these breakfast sandwiches is that they are completely customizable. Ham, sausage, bacon, turkey bacon, and veggie sausage are all great options. Cheddar is my favorite cheese choice, but you can use any sliced cheese that melts well. You can even mix cooked veggies into the eggs to increase your morning fiber intake. Once you get the overall method down, it s easy to switch it up. Cooking the Eggs ... • 16. Transcendentalism In Henry David Thoreau The Transcendentalism in Henry David Thoreau Henry David Thoreau once said, It s not what you look at that matters, it s what you see. Transcendentalists were often less concerned with what they saw in front of them, and more concerned on what it meant. Transcendentalism is certainly about forgetting the literal meaning of things and taking into account the divinity of them. Thoreau s impression of this genre shows up regularly in his works. Henry David Thoreau s independence and time with Emerson strengthened his as a transcendentalist as shown in Walden and A Winter s Walk. Henry David Thoreau was a major figure in the transcendentalist movement. He was born in Concord, Massachusetts on July 12, 1817 ( Henry David Thoreau biography.co). Richard J. Schneider s article, Thoreau s Life reveals that he went to public school in Concord, then attended Concord Academy. Thoreau was somewhat different than other children in Concord. As a child he rarely followed the rules and was independent and strong willed (Brozo, et al. 377). Being independent as a child shows up very clearly in Thoreau s adult life. Later Schneider states that Thoreau went to Harvard College and graduated in the top of his class. However, he had to graduate early because he was very ill and not financially able to continue. Thoreau worked at many places throughout the years. He taught at a school, worked at his family s pencil factory, and opened a school with his brother (Schneider). He even worked as a land surveyor (Witherell and Dubrulle). Thoreau was friends with a great transcendentalist writer, Ralph Waldo Emerson. Thoreau spent two years living at a place called Walden Pond, which was property of Emerson ( Henry David Thoreau biography.com). As stated in the biography, Henry David Thoreau, He experimented with working as little as possible rather than engage in the pattern of six days on with one day off. This may seem like a lazy way of living, but to Thoreau it was something more. He felt that this new approach helped him avoid the misery he saw around him ( Henry David ). The hardship that Thoreau was feeling from the world was the public. The public admired technology and did not appreciate nature like he did. Henry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The component of total energy expenditure that an individual can alter the most is activity thermogenesis by increasing ones physical activity levels, allowing for a greater total of large muscle movements (Akbulut Rakicioglu, 2011). For activity to occur, the body must supply the muscles with adenosine triphosphate, ATP, which is a form of energy that allows processes such as muscle contraction to occur. • 25. Gender Differences In Nonverbal Communication Gender Differences in Nonverbal Communication Nonverbal communication includes visual cues known as body language that arise during human interactions. These cues include proximity, body positions, posture, touch, gestures, facial expressions, and eye contact, and can be as important in communication as the words actually spoken. Within the category of nonverbal communication, many variances exist between males and females. Matthew Hertenstein, a psychology professor at DePauw University, and Dacher Keltner found in a study of U.S. undergraduates that a number of explanations have been proposed to explain these genderdifferences, some of which emphasize power and status some of which emphasize the social roles of the genders (Hertenstein and Keltner 72). Since many differences exist between males and females in how they display nonverbal communication, it is important to study these distinctions to eliminate confusion and misunderstanding between genders. Men and women tend to physically approach conversations and interactions differently. Typically, women prefer to be approached from the front, rather than from the side or behind, and researchers believe this is based on protection since one can see the person coming (Reiman). Someone like Abigail, who looked foolish at the end of her story, may realize how inconsiderate and greedy she was being, but that does not mean she should feel that they need to punish herself or condemn herself to hell. In Luther s case, he hated the idea of indulgences because he felt that people who actually do commit sin end up paying away the good work of the Lord. But the indulgences meant that rather than beg for forgiveness and the mercy of God, whoever has confessed and is contrite and puts alms in the box, as his confessor counsels him, will have all of his sins forgiven (Pettegree 68). Yet, it is also important to note that Luther did believe in salvation, just simply as good deeds and prayers rather than money. Martin Luther in his adolescence truly believed that he could not reach salvation or stand on good terms with God. The teachings of the Catholic Church seemed to do no good for him, so he took it upon himself with the help of his father in Christ to study theology at the University of Wittenberg. Realist ideology, statism, specifically, suggests that survival and sovereignty of the state is its primary goals, and the very condition of its existence. With this said, states do have the ability to take care of other actors interests and needs in the international community out of something that could be called a moral responsibility , but only if it somehow serves its own national interests in the process. Morgenthau (1949) explains that state actors who pursue certain national interests and act aggressively resort to liberal sentiment, as a convenient means of justifying their behaviour in the eyes of both the international community, and their own people. This is not to say however, that some states are sincere in certain good hearted pursuits. But it is indeed true that moral principles prove to be serviceable to national interest (Morgenthau 1949:207). Machiavelli goes so far as to claim that morality is the product of power (Carr 2001:63). Take for example the nineteenth century, in which the British Empire was the global hegemon at the time. As a reason to explain imperialism and its colonial aspirations, they advertised the theory of the White Man s Burden as a moral and social norm, in which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Ending Of A Tale Of Two Cities In literature, endings need to supply the readers with a sense of satisfaction and completion for the novel to conclude well. If the author does not accomplish this, the book is seen as being insufficient for the general audience. In A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens, the author ends the story in three chapters, one chapter for each set of characters. Each of these chapters wraps up the characters stories, leaving behind very few questions about the literature itself. Not only does this ending appropriately conclude the novel, but it also leaves the readers with questions about themselves and their view on the world, encouraging the readers toward self reflection. One of the main objectives of a novel s ending is to wrap up the loose ends surrounding the protagonist. Some literature does this successfully, others choose to leave the protagonist s life open to interpretation: One can depart. Forward, my postilions! A good journey! I salute you, citizens. And the first danger passed! These are again the words of Jarvis Lorry, as he clasps his hands, and looks upward. There is terror in the carriage, there is weeping, there is the heavy breathing of the insensible traveller. [...] Out of the open country, in again among ruinous buildings, solitary farms, dye works, tanneries and the like, cottages in twos and threes, avenues of leafless trees. Have these men deceived us, and taken us back by another road? Is not this the same place twice over? Thank Heaven no. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Analysis Of The Poem A Sorrowful Woman Once upon a time there was a wife and mother one too many times (Godwin 39). This short story begins with the famous opening, once upon a time, which foreshadows that the story line will be similar to a fairy tale. It raises expectations for the story that all will be magical and end happily. A typical modern day fairy taleis that of a distressed character who overcomes an obstacle, falls in love with prince charming, and they ride off into the sunset; living happily ever after never to be heard from again. Godwin however, puts an unexpected twist on A Sorrowful Woman . This short story is a tale about what can happen when everyday roles take over our identity. Traditionally, women were stay at home who tended to the children, house chores, and duties when needed. Purposely, Godwin doesn t give the characters names. This is important because it implies that the characters are not people, but they represent their role within the family. Godwin mocks a fairy tale by having the characters actions contradict expectations. This is shown when the mother is literally sick at the sight of her family (Godwin 39). Also when the child pretends to be a tiger and scratches the mother, scaring her off so she didn t want to be alone with the boy anymore. The husband doesn t save the wife from her state, he simply understands it and finds other solutions. He hires a girl to help care for the boy, but the mother resents this. The mother wishes to be happy with her roles but she cannot accept them, and despises the perfect girl for doing what she is unable to (Godwin 40 41 ). The mother leads a life where her duties and societal expectations are met, but by doing this her happiness is lost. Once upon a time implies that she thought her life as a wife and mother would be perfect. The wife even attempts to find new roles to replace the ones she holds which do not suit her, She tried these personalities on like costumes, then discarded them (Godwin 42). ... • 34. The Framework And Statutory Frameworks The workforce has developed rapidly over the years in relation to policy and statutory frameworks, with an emphasis upon the national curriculum in relation to literacy. The frameworks is influenced by political aspects by theoretical and political aspects. This has been reflected within practice as policy brings change and implications for practitioners and managers. Research has gone a long way to implement the revised national curriculum which was due to the concerns raised due to the fact as a country we are falling behind on the national league tables as we are in position 23 (DfEE, 2013), which is quite disappointing as English is our first language within Britain, and we have made no improvements within the last three years (DfEE, 2013). The Greeks did not just invent an alphabet; they invented literacy and literature basis of modern thought (Blake, 2002. et al). Therefore, schooling became longer because after an extended period of learning to read and write, children had become exposed to the literary of culture. Pupils are now learning about the world through reading in classrooms (King, 2000). Our view of literacy needs to be critically examined rather than accepted unquestioningly. As Tobin et al, (1989) so fascinatingly demonstrates, our values affect our curriculum and our judgements of children (Marsh et al, 2008, p.24). A need to bring an internal change is necessary for people to live well in an environmentally responsible society which builds a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the beginning of the episode when people are warned that there will be a hurricane, everyone turns on each other by stealing, fighting and breaking things, for their own personal wealth, not worrying about anyone else, the creators of the show purposefully exaggerate, this is in reference to what would happen in anarchy, or post apocalyptic events, movies such as, The Purge, Mad Max 2 and I am Legend cover this topic in more depth. Later in the episode, Ned Flanders asks, why did the hurricane destroy only my house, I donate to 8 different churches and follow everything the bible says. This is making fun of how much he heavily relies on the several churches to bring him security and wealth, this pokes fun at the people in society think that giving to a church or several different churches will grant them safety or wealth. Another satirical moment was in Ned Flanders flashback to when he was young, when his parents couldn t control him, because they didn t believe in rules, they went to a doctor and told him, we ve tried nothing and we re all out of ideas. The creators of the show are making fun of the parents that don t discipline their kids. Germ Theory Of Disease By Robert Koch And Louis Pasteur Introduction In the nineteenth century, two famous scientists Robert Koch and Louis Pasteur formally demonstrated that microorganisms were the cause of many diseases. This proposition has become known as Germ Theory of Disease . Not that this notion had never been touched before on the contrary, there have been ancient mentions as old as 36 BC from a roman scholar, Marcus Terentius Varro, that stated: certain minute creatures, which cannot be seen by the eyes, which float in the air and enter the body through the mouth and nose, and there cause serious diseases . The concept of Germ Theory of Disease suffered a major overturn in the twentieth century, when Metchnikoff showed that microorganisms could also act as beneficial agents and health promoters. Was there then launched the basis for what we now call probiotics. Thus, today we know we are, one way or the other, vastly colonized by microorganisms. It is certainly clear that these microorganisms are present forming heterogeneous and specific communities over large body surfaces. These colonization processes occur primarily on skin, vagina and the gastrointestinal tract. Even so, our body has a remarkable ability to protect itself against microbial invasions. Not just their IQ, or their ability to perform a task well, but whether their social skills were also capable or not. Gladwell states that it is not possible to make it far alone, so he would check to see if an individual wasn t an awkward loner who excelled in only academically. As one of the largest industries in the U.S., the top manufacturers rely primarily on their domestic market, along with Canada, to sustain their business.
