The Profit Fair Market Value Of The Loss Corporation Essay
Built in Gains and Losses. If the aggregate fair market value of the loss corporation s assets
either exceeds or is less than its aggregate tax basis in those assets by an amount which is more
than the lesser of 10% of the aggregate value of the assets on that date or $10 million, then special
rules apply. If in the year of the transaction or a later year the corporationrecognized gain on
propertywhich it owned on the transaction date, the annual limitation would be increased for that
year by the amount necessary to shelter the portion of its net unrealized built in gain attributable to
such property. The net unrealized built in gain is the excess of the aggregate value of all of the
corporation s property on the transaction date over its aggregate tax basis in all of its property at
that time.
Conversely, if the corporation had built in loss, the loss would be limited the same way that the
NOL would be limited.
Disallowance of the Entire Carryforward. If the loss corporation does not continue its historic
business during the two year period following the ownership change, the entire carryforward is
disallowed. Even after the carryforward is disallowed, the built in gain can be offset by the built in
losses.
Purpose Test. The service can disallow a deduction or credit if (a) control of a business is acquired
and (b) the principal purpose of the acquisition is to secure the deduction or credit.
Limitation on Other Carryforwards. A collateral effect of an ownership

Long Term Care Policy Summary
This article states that Hawaii is introducing a policy to reduce the burden on caregivers who are
providing long term and end of life care to family members. This policy introduces a stipend of
70 dollars per day for people caring for an elderly family member. The policy has some
limitations. Only those who work at least 30 hours a week can utilize this stipend. The intent is for
caregivers to use this stipend to supplement wages, hire help, and buy caregiving supplies.
This relates to some of the points brought up in this week s discussion board and long term care.
Many others have mentioned that having to pay for long term care for elderly relatives is
emotionally and financially stressful. This scenario of being the primary caregiver for elderly
relatives, rather than putting them in a nursing facility, also adds the stress of time management and
the emotional and mental stress of walking a relative through the last stages of their life.
Many of those in Hawaii do not want to put their loved ones in long term care facilities for a
multitude of reasons, such as wanting to be close to family, distrust of the quality of government or
insurance run long term care ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I first read this article, I doubted that family members would be able to provide adequate
medical support to aging adults, without the help of health care workers. However, I can see how
keeping an aging relative in a familiar environment can be conducive to the improvement of their
emotional and mental health. It also seems that it would be less costly for family members to
provide long term care, provided that their elderly relative does not have a serious condition that
required advanced medical care. However, I think the stipend could also remedy this by allowing
caregivers economic means to hire support, such as certified nursing assistants and home health

Coolie By Mulk Anand Analysis
Coolie: A Saga of Inequality and Exploitation
Abstract: The nineteen thirties were the most confused years in Indian history. It was the time of
Indian thrash about for sovereignty and everyone was effected by the blow of this even poetry,
drama and novel too. So Anand could not stay uninfluenced by it. He suffered a lot so this made
him abhorrence imperialism. He was conscious of the sufferings of our community from dearth and
nastiness. No one in India had yet written the classic on this suffering effectively because the
realities were too rudimentary for a writer like Tagore. Mulk Raj Anandan immense Indian novelist
draws our consideration through his immortal characters Munno and Bakha, from existent
civilization. As a novelist he speaks on pragmatism, variance, humanism and exploitations. Anand
wrote about real natives whom he knew quite intimately. Mulk Raj Anand awakens social
principles by his works. He arouses compassionate sensation of readers for the subjugated and
under privileged, who suffer a lot.
Key words: Pragmatism, Social Conflict, Humanism, Exploitation, Underprivileged.

different ways. Thus, I had to present the same task in different ways at the different levels so
that my English Language Learner will understand the materials and learn. While tutoring my
student Eh Kaw Soe I mostly touch on reading aloud, writing short sentences, short and long
vowel, vocabulary and math. Also, I taught a different topic every Thursday. Moreover, before
moving to the next topic, I reviewed the previous topic to make my student improved his
metacognition about the topic and use his higher level of thinking skills. For example, every
Thursday I write vocabulary words on the flash cards and go over before reading aloud and after
reading to make sure the student understands the words that are used in the book. Moreover, I

Security Background And Threats Of Terrorism Essay
One. Security background and threats of terrorism
Since the beginning of a 21st century, an international security environment has been proved to be
more volatile, unpredictable, complex and ambiguity with their challenging effects in various ways.
Thus, those challenging situations take into particular considerations when combating terrorism
throughout the national security strategy. The civil war, sectarian spillovers of crises, state
catastrophe in central Africa and the Middle East will likely to be continued with growing scale
and concern.
Most worrisome is the emergence in Iraq and Syria of the self proclaimed Islamic State known
as ISIS whose brutal violence, ability to capture and hold territory, significant financial resources,
and impressive strategic acumen make it a threat like any other the United States has faced in the
contemporary era. The Radical Islamic terrorism as An act of terror and an act of hate is well
nested in Iraq and Syria will also likely to cause more instability and extreme violence in the
region, and in entire world.
Moreover, the growing threats of terrorism with protracting instability in specific region cause 2nd
and 3rd order of security effects not only in European continent but also cause the danger in U.S.
soil. For instance, due to recent instability in Iraq and Syria, thousands of millions of refugees are
moving from the Middle East to the neighboring countries and European continent for seeking safe
heavens. Those large number

Guns Germs And Steel Thesis
When reading the title of Jared Diamond s, Guns, Germs, and Steels, the readers must initially think
how do these three connect? After starting the first few chapters they will realize that Diamond is
referring to the proximate and ultimate factors in that lead to the advancement of society. When
Diamond talks about proximate and ultimate factors, he is explaining the cause of European
dominance in the world. The proximate factors are the one that directly led to the European
dominance and the ultimate factors are the ones that let to proximate factors. I believe that this
book is referring to the Homo sapiens revolutionizing through the years, through the Neolithic
Revolution through agriculture and industrialization. From the beginning of the book, Diamond
focuses on answering Yali s question. Yali is a New Guinean, who out of curiosity would ask
Diamond questions, one of which was hard for Diamond to answer. That question was, Why is it
that you white people developed so much... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This chapter focuses on the meeting of the two societies and discusses the causes of one having a
greater dominance over the other. The Europeans led to dominance and beat with factors such as
horses, guns, steel weapons, ships, diseases, and politics. Referring to the title, these guns, germs,
and steels that the Europeans possessed helped them overcome and defeat the Incas, however it is
because of the ultimate factors they had. The Europeans unlike the Incas had a lot of domesticated
plants and animals, and it could be considered an agricultural revolution. They also lived in a better
area, which helped them develop the proximate factors. Raising plants and animals were the most
important factors of the civilizational differences of the past and present. Food production,
industries, and cities arose. Food production had led to the industrialization and the cargoes

Wrestling vs Football Would an athlete rather play in a sixty minute football gameor wrestle in a
six minute match? In both scenarios, there will be bumps and bruises, but the two competitions
are completely different. These may correlate well with each other but there are also many
differences. In both actives there are team implications, but in wrestling the only time a team
factor comes into effect is when practice rolls around. These two sports can help each other,
wrestling would keep football players in shape, and football would teach physicality to wrestlers.

In ways this is true, wrestling will help with tackling, it teaches hard work, and it makes a person
mentally tougher. Football helps wrestling because football players are mean and areextremely
aggressive, which are both traits an individual should possess in order to become an outstanding
wrestler. Wrestling and football are two of the most physical sports that can be played. Wrestling is
pretty much sanctioned violence, what that means is that two guys are fighting each other with
rules. In a football practice, which is about an hour or two long there is contact on every single

Economic Differences For The North
To begin with, the Economic Differences for the North was based on manufacturing. Tons of
immigrants from Europe started working in factories and producing goods used by people in the
north. Many factories started producing textiles which is clothes with the cotton grown in the
South. The North favored a loose interpretation of the United StatesConstitution, and they wanted
to grant the federal government increased powers. After the American Revolution, slavery began to

The unprecedented violence of battles such as Shiloh, Antietam, Stones River, and Gettysburg
shocked citizens and international observers alike. Nearly as many men died in captivity during
the Civil War as were killed in the whole of the Vietnam War. Hundreds of thousands died of

Most casualties and deaths in the Civil War were the result of non combat related disease. For
every three soldiers killed in battle, five more died of disease. The primitive nature of Civil War
medicine, both in its intellectual underpinnings and in its practice in the armies, meant that many
wounds and illnesses were unnecessarily fatal.
Our modern conception of casualties includes those who have been psychologically damaged by
warfare. This distinction did not exist during the Civil War. Soldiers suffering from what we would
now recognize as post traumatic stress disorder were uncatalogued and uncared for.

Similarities Between The Crucible And Mccarthyism
Essay Hi I am Alex and this essay will contain and discuss the following subjects: playwright
Arthur Miller, Senator Joseph McCarthy and McCarthyism, The Crucible vs. The Salem Witch
Trials, the Puritans, and Hysteria. So enjoy. Arthur Miller: Arthur Miller was born in Harlem,
New York on October 17,1915. His parents were of Polish and Jewish descent. He received his
college education from the University of Michigan. Miller was a famous playwright. Perhaps
some of his more known works were The Crucible , which was based on the Salem Witch Trials
which took place from 1692 to 1693. He also wrote A View from the Bridge , and Death of a
Salesman which won a Pulitzer Prize. Miller was married to sex symbol Marilyn Monroe. Their
marriage was referred to as the Great American Brain and the Great American Body . McCarthyism:

McCarthy spent almost 5 years trying in vain to expose communists and other left wing loyalty
risks in the US government. McCarthy accusations were so intimidating a few people dared to
speak out against him. A practice of making accusations of treason became to be known as
McCarthyism, which was also known as the Red Scare . The McCarthyism era ended on June 9,
1954. The play The Crucible drew many parallels to Mccarthyism. The Crucible: A crucible is a
container of metal or refractory material employed for heating substances to high temperatures.
But it is more famously known as a severe, searching test or trial. Salem s motto featured on their
website is Still Making History . One main way to better understand the period and the trials
themselves is to understand the time period. Back in those days different people s word could
mean different things. Such as a person who was of major importance words would mean a lot

Australia s Gallipoli Campaign Analysis
World War I (1914 1918) was considered the Great War and Australia s Gallipoli campaign has
always been considered as the pinnacle of the Australian military feats. This is due to the constant
glorification of the event despite the fact it was an unmitigated failure. However, the work of the
Australian army force in the most important battleground of WW1 the Western Front is often cast
under the shadow of Gallipoli. The battles on the Western Front took place in France, Belgium and
parts of Germany and this is where some of the most pivotal battles were fought. The contribution

Heroes In Beowulf

Why We Need Heros A hero, a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character ( Hero ).
A hero shows much more than honor and glory, they sacrifice their own life to selflessly help out
the lives of others. By having heroes it gives us hope, wisdom, and justice throughout the nation.
The three main types of heroes include an epic hero, superhero, and your own personal hero. These
heroes show that it s more than the cape or armour they wear, they show the true meaning of a hero
by defining sacrifice, loyalty, and determination. Throughout the epic poem Beowulf, Beowulf

As told within the movie, Peter Parker s grandmother believes there s a hero in all of us; gives us
strength, makes us noble, even though some items we have to give up the things we love the
most (Sami Raimi). Neither Spiderman nor his alter ego, Peter Parker, ever showed any signs
of fear(Spiderman). His incredible bravery allowed for him to fight relentlessly. As we grow up
throughout life, we hold onto many heroes as they have impacted our life. Looking into my
personal life, my hero consists of my mother, Darla Linden. She defined a hero as a person
stepping up in a situation without thinking they also are in harm s way (Linden, Darla).
Throughout my lifetime my mom has been there for me since day one and has helped nurtured
me.. She sacrifices many things for myself and for my family by providing us with our daily
needs. I can always count on her to point me in the right direction by pursuing my dreams and
wishes. I admire her caring heart and faithfulness the most because she would drop anything
instantly to help someone else in need. She supports me in all of my extra curricular activities
and motivates myself to bring out my full potential. I get inspired by her courageous character by
never backing down to a challenge and always finishing through. When I asked my mom who she

The Columbine Massacre Were They Pushed or Did They Jump What would drive two

the bullying, angst or video games and movies? Or none of the above. As we examine what led up
to one of the worst domestic terrorist acts in American history I think we ll that find Eric Harris
and Dylan Kleboldweren t your average teenagers. In my opinion they were cold blooded killers
who had every intention to take as many lives as they could. At approximately 11:10 on April 20th

The Dissolution Of Marriage Bonds
The dissolution of marriage bonds in the society today is no longer an issue spoken in hushed
tones behind doors as in previous times. Statistics have indicated an increasing rate of divorce in
countries like Belgium and Chile as being very high and only a few places like the Philippines
depict low rates (Kittleson, et.al, 2005). It is on account of these developments that we seriously
ponder and guess on what really caused the sudden rise. Is it a problem with the individual or is it
society s drawback?
It is commonly quotes that half of the marriages that exist today end up in divorce. Taking the
example of Canada, latest studies have found that four in ten first marriages end in divorce
(cbc.ca, 2015). What has drawn attention is not just the figures but it is the comparison between
the present and the past figures and the rate with which they are rising (Kittleson,et.al, 2005).
Divorce indeed has existed over many generations. The reasons given for divorce in society have
not really changed much but have only become more complicated because of the societal
dynamics. While pursuing solutions to this issue, strategies have been laid out just like that
applied to many other problems . Such is the case that various professionals who include
researchers, scholars, sociologist s and many others have made attempts to figure out what exactly
is the source to divorce. Here, the big question is whether it is a problem with society or with the

They stated that search measures used by school officials to root out contraband must be reasonably
related to the objectives of the search and not excessively intrusive in light of the age and sex of the
student and the nature of the infraction. Concurring Opinion and Joining Judges Justice Souter
delivered the opinion of the Court saying that the search did violate Savanna Fourth Amendment
right because no drugs were suspected to be concealed in her bra and underwear so they had no
reason . The judge felt the school officials were not liable and entitled to qualified immunity
because school officials were just trying to prevent drugs distributed throughout the school. Justice
Ginsburg also had a concurring opinion. He agreed with the majority that the school administrators
were qualifiedly immune to prosecution. However, he argued that the judiciary should not meddle
with decisions school administrators make that are in the interest of keeping their schools safe.

How Native Americans Handle Symptoms of Illness
Everyone gets sick and throughout generations they find ways to handle the symptoms. The ways
that people define and decide to treat their illnesses depend on their culture. The Native Americans
have developed their own ways to handle their illnesses. Their techniques should be incorporated
more into modern medicine; this would improve the way modern medicine is practiced. The
Native American s believe that they are spiritually and physically connected to nature (Schwing,
2008). This is the way that Lori was raised on the reservation. She had attended ceremonies with
her father as she was growing up (Alvord, 2000). Everyone should try to understand the Native
American view, and try to adopt at least part of it. Weather someone wants to look at it from a
spiritual way or a biological way the earth is interconnected with the people and the animals
living on it. We are seeing more species of animals and plants being extinct, and it seems that
most people do not care or just done realize that this is happening. Not only are we losing out on
specific species themselves but also by how it will disrupt the balance of nature. Native Americans
believe that people can get ill from an imbalanced life or diseases (Schwing, 2008). Lori had seen
this many times with her patients in the hospital. When the people in the operating room were not
balance with themselves and each other Lori noticed that the patients had rougher recoveries. Once

Fashions In The Ottoman Empire
Ottoman textiles are considered to be some of the most elegant textiles that were produced in the
Islamic world. They were executed in a range of woven techniques with satins and velvets. They
were characterized with large scaled motifs and metallic threads. Some of the textiles remnants of
the Ottoman Empire still exist today and have very much so played an influential role in textile
making.
The Ottoman Empire is one of the largest and longest lasting empires in history, which spanned
from 1299 1922 CE. It became the center of trade between the western and eastern world. During
the 16th century the Ottoman Empires political and economic power reached its peak; therefore
making the arts reach a turning point. Their textile industry became bigger and of more superior
quality. The Ottoman sultans wore only the best fabrics, which were made into Kaftans and robes.
Their choice of elegant fabrics and designs marked a statement for the Ottoman textile
development. Some of the fabrics consisted of satin, silk, kemha, seraser, lampas, etc. They
developed their own motifs and designs as well.
The main religion in the Ottoman Empire was Islam. Islam is a monotheistic religion that is based
off of the revelations from the prophet Muhammad. The beliefs and symbols of this religion greatly
influenced the designs used in their textiles.
Court designers made special textile designs for the courts garments and furnishings in the palace.

My Argumentative Essay On Lobbying
Every essay assignment changed my perspective on something or strengthened the knowledge I
already had but, with the Argumentative Essay I felt more engaged than ever with my
assignment. The ability to choose my topic already made me feel more in control, but i still had
to critically think. When I was determining what topic I felt more inclined to write about I was
confused on which to choose not because of lack of options but because my dilemma was that I
had too much. In order to truly pick I not only decided on what I was very passionate about, but
also on a topic that I knew was uncommon and could educate more than reiterate .I thought of
Lobbying which I once wrote a speech about and had a clear interest in. I had a lot of
conversations with friends and family about lobbying and came to the realization that it was not
only important to me, but to everyone I knew whether they knew about it or not it had a
significant importance in their life. The process was interesting because I didn t lack
information, but I had a lot since it was something that I had read upon for a long time so my
struggle became the organization. I also had to make it clear and concise because I found it was
easy to become stray from your main thesis when you have a lot of information on the general
topic. My views didn t necessarily change yet the ideas and notions I had on Lobbying were
strengthened by the research I got and how I tried to deliver my argument. I felt that my essay
did justice to the thesis and my message was conveyed clearly. It was satisfying to have the
counter arguments refuted because I felt as though my message gained more value and
credibility. The best way to explain the process is by using a metaphor , I felt like a lawyer who
was prepared to win for their client, except in my case the client was my thesis and I was my own
lawyer. My point was supported, but I also wanted those which had counter ideas to feel that my
argumentative essay did them justice by trying to analyze their point of view thoroughly. When
mentioning the counter argument on how lobbying should be regulated I found validity in some of
their arguments, seen by. There is no doubt that free speech should be protected and lobbying can

Ruling Into The Experience Machine
When first asked about whether or not I would get in the experience machine, I was confused and
torn between the two choices. On one hand, I could plug into the machine and go through whatever
experience I wanted and simply live it out in the machine. This is extremely tempting due to the
absence of responsibility what person wouldn t wantto go at least 2 years without having to worry
about any job, school, or other duties to stress them out? It is also tempting because of the
opportunity to be able to experience many things that probably would not be possible in the real
world for the common person (like me). Imagine being able to experience and have the memory of
an exciting and adventurous activity such as climbing Mt. Everest, without having to be in any
actual danger or pay for any of the expensive costs that are associated with such an adventure....

The main reason to not plug into the experience machine, for me, would be that it goes against
my religious views as a Christian. God has a plan for everyone and I feel like spending two years
in a machine that only gives me the pleasure of certain events without affecting the world in any
sort of way is not part of that plan. It also seems as if my life would be a waste if I spent even as
little as 2 years in the machine. Instead of spending the 2 years meeting real new people or going
through a real experience, you would just sit in the machine getting experiences that are solely for
your own pleasure and have no actual meaning in the real

Unindigenous Species
The Introduction of nonindigenous Species The most important aspect of a government is their
ability to be able to decide for the people. One major decision that comes from the government is
whether or not non indigenous species should be transferred to another country. Since invasive
species tend to result in negative impacts rather than beneficial ones, stricter regulations should be
put into effect to avoid the possibility of unintended negative consequences because of the harm
that could come out of the transfer at the end. Yet, introduced species could be major improvements
in some aspects, therefore these stricter regulations should be based upon important studies and
considerations. As a result, the most important consideration that... Show more content on

Since an invasive species can be any kind of newly introduced living organism then it would be
hard to determine what risk there would be from the introduction and what they would result in
since, Approximately 42% of Threatened or Endangered species are at risk primarily due to
invasive species (Source A). This shows that the introduction between these species have either not
been thought out well or nothing has been done to prevent these threats. Since the protection of the
native specie and the ability of the non native specie to adapt to the new environment is a crucial
factor for a good encounter, the results must first be calculated as accurate as possible in order for
the government to base the decision upon because the non native species will endanger the native
specie if it becomes more dominant. Therefore, the habitat and food cycle of the native species
must also be studied in order to prevent any altercations because they are considered one of the
most impacted areas when the defence system of the native species is off. As a result, transferring
the non indigenous specie into the habitat of a native specie will only be beneficial if there is
balance in their ability to defend themselves from one

Sowbug Report
OUTLINE. Introduction to the Question:
A subclass of pheromones is necromones, which contain oleic acid as a primary component.
Some pheromones trigger aggregation between organisms, others can trigger separation.
Necromones trigger necrophoric (organisms remove their dead) or necrophobic (organisms avoid
their dead) behavior.
Arthropods use pheromones, this includes sowbugs and cockroaches. Chemical signals are picked
up by antennae.
II. Hypothesis:
When given a choice between two identical shelters, sowbugs will display necrophobic behavior by
aggregating in the shelter that does not contain oleic acid.
III. Biological Rationale:
C.D. Rollo study showed that cockroaches display necrophobic behavior around oleic acid (dead ...

A. Procedure:
1. Obtain 3 large tin bowls, 1 spoon, 1 pair scissors, 6 ketchup containers, 1 pipet, 3mL oleic acid,
6mL distilled water, 6 filter papers, and 30 sowbugs.
2. Place 10 randomly selected sowbugs in each of the 3 empty tin bowls for 3 minutes to allow
them to acclimate to the environment.
3. During the 3 minute period, soak each filter paper with 1mL of distilled water, because sowbugs
have been shown to prefer moist environments.
4. Add 1mL of oleic acid to three of the wet filter papers, this creates the independent variable. One
will go in each tin.
5. Using the scissors, cut two small doors in each ketchup container on opposite sides, so that
when the container is placed upside down, the sowbugs may enter it. Having 2 doors in each
increases the chance of sowbugs finding an entrance.
6. After 3 minutes, quickly place the wet filter papers on opposite sides of the tin (noting which
one contains oleic acid) and cover them with the ketchup containers. The doors should face away
from the center, towards the edges of the tin. The placement of the oleic acid containing paper
should be random, no preference for either side of the tin.
7. Wait 20 minutes, observing the sowbug s behavior. This 20 minute period gives them time to
find each shelter and determine a preference. Do not disturb them during this time. Keep track

International Financial Reporting Standards On The...
It is incontestable that international financial reporting standards (IFRS) are in vogue and global
conformity theoretically on the doorstep as about 100 countries implement standard financial
regulations. The idea that uniform reporting standards have the same effect on financial reporting
undervalues the contested ability to be flexible in financial reporting and introduces another level of
debate on the issue of flexibility and uniformity. Apart from the fact that the merits of flexibility are
downplayed to increase cross sectional and inter temporal comparison, prescribed reporting
standards compliance is itself not enough basis to claim that financial reporting. The IFRS
comprises of principle based standards that have presents financial report manager with the
opportunity to increase flexibility on their part and possible manipulation (Benston, 2006).
Consequently, the fact brings another issue into question, for instance, the reliability and
transparency of information produced under professional discretion and judgment of managers.
This paper seeks to indicate that there are too many current financial reporting issues that are not
yet conclusively included in the crusade for the adoption of uniform financial reporting standards
on the notion that uniform standards improve the quality of financial reporting regarding
comparability. Accounting regulation has an apparent importance in accounting for the good of the
public. The regulation allows corporate organization

Examples Of Foils In Antigone
According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, a person or thing that contrasts with and so
emphasizes and enhances the qualities of another is a foil. The play Antigone by Sophocles has a
strong example of foils, consequently Antigone and Creon have differing motivations, making them
foils of each other. Their interactions expose Creons tragic flaw of wanting power over love,
making him a tragic hero and highlighting the theme of the play that staying loyal to family is more
important than power. One of the many differences between Antigone and Creon is their
motivations. Antigone s motivations center around loyalty to family and religion. Because she

I ll do my duty to my brother and yours as well, if you re not prepared to. I won t be caught

well as ensure her brother s peaceful rest in the afterlife, moreover, everything she bases her
actions in this play has something to do with a higher power. Before Antigone receives her
punishment, Creon questions her, asking if she knew she was breaking a law, and if so, why.
She answers, Yes. Zeus did not announce those laws to me. And Justice living with the gods

to let a mortal override the gods and their unwritten and unchanging laws. They re not just for
today or yesterday, but exist forever, and no one knows where they first appeared. So I did not

fate because death is only the beginning, in her eyes. She believes that if the gods wanted to

Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech At The Virginia Convention
During 1775, colonists were going through something that affected them deeply. Living under
Britain s rule, they had little to no freedom. In Speech at the Virginia Convention Henry
expresses his view on living under Britain s rule. He encourages American men to fight against
the British in order to ensure freedom. Patrick Henry persuades his audience by showing it will
be necessary to go to battle through his powerful use of ethos, imagery and rhetorical questions.
Patrick Henry establishes credibility by showing that it will be necessary to go to battle through
his use of ethos in the text. Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving
offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country (Henry). This explains
that Patrick feels that if he holds back in order to not offend anyone, it ll be like betraying his
own country. Moreover, Patrick Henry expresses credibility by stating Guilty of treason towards
my country, and of an act of disloyalty toward the majesty of heaven, which I revere above all
earthly kings (Henry). He reveals that he is guilty of treason towards his country, which shows an
act of disloyalty towards God in which he respects more than anyone. Next, Henry uses metaphors
throughout the text to convey his credibility. I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and
that is the lamp of experience (Henry). This explains that him being experienced is the only reason
why he continues to keep fighting and

Summary Of Hiroshima John Hersey
On August 6, 1945, the U.S. dropped the first atomic bomb, killing a hundred thousand people in
Hiroshima, Japan. In the book Hiroshima John Hersey tells the stories of six atomic bomb
survivors from the exact moment to the years following.
Reverend Mr. Kiyoshi Tanimoto was a Methodist pastor that on the day of the bombing jumped

for his family towards the center of the city. Mr. Tanimoto felt ashamed of being uninjured while
others were either trapped, burned, or dead. After finding his wife and baby, they went their

helped bring water to them and ferried others across the river. On August 26th, Mr. Tanimoto fell ill

What is your inquiry question and how does it relate to the improved learning of your students?
My question for Inquiry is:
How can I differentiate Mathematics in order to support and extend students?
By differentiating the numeracy program, all students needs will be targeted by exposing students
to outcomes and activities, which are achievable and challenging for students. The focus learning
area for each lesson and group of learners will be tailored to suit the individual learning needs of the
students as will the set tasks associated with the learning focus. Students will be supported by the
class teacher and the strategies put in place within each lesson. The purpose of differentiating is to

What impact has this project had on teaching and learning?
It was valuable to see an experienced and leading teacher at the school using a concise learning
intention for the students. They understood what the framework for their success would be defined
as and thus they could work towards this goal.
What impact has this project had on teaching and learning?
The main impact this lesson had on my project was seeing tasks set that catered for each student.
For example one expectation was for the students to choose their own question to answer from a
range of different questions that all varied in complexity and difficulty, and to answer them in four
different ways. I will attempt to use this style of challenging my students into future lessons.

The Theories of Bandura versus Erikson
How does an infant develop into an adult? The answer is not as obvious as it seems. There are a
variety of factors that contribute to human development. A person not only grows physically but
also cognitively and socio emotionally. This paper will explain two theories; one cognitive and one
socio emotional; about human development. The two theories will be described, compared,
contrasted and individually evaluated based on the strong points and limitations. The first theory
examined is Albert Bandura s social cognitive/learning theory. A child does not automatically know
how to interpret their environment, but they can learn about the world around them and how to
manipulate their surroundings by observing people around them. According to Bandura (2002),
Viewed from the sociocognitive perspective, human nature is characterised [sic] by a vast
potentiality that can be fashioned by direct and vicarious experience into a variety of forms
within biological limits (pp. 271 272). Although a large amount of learning from watching other
people happens in childhood, a person can acquire new skills or knowledge at any point in their
life with the help of other people. The second theory examined is Erik Eriksons eight stages of
psychosocial development. Each stage in Erikson s theory involves a conflict/crisis that a person
must work through to evolve their personality. Rosenthal (1981) explains that, Each stage arises
because a new dimension of social interaction

being judged. She was labled different, all she ever wanted to do was to be like everyone else. This
eventually led to her being depressed. Within the story, Oritz Cofer describes how terrible she
was treated due to her Puerto Rican heritage and skin color, and how she would never be able to
fit in. Minorities of different complexions get ridiculed and judged for their skin color by many
people every day. In this short story, Ortiz Cofer stated, I was born a white girl in Puerto Ricobut
became a brown girl when I came to live in the United States (Ortiz Cofer 393). This is the first
sentence in the story and it s showing how Cofer was right from the gecko being shunned for
having a different skin complexion. Because her skin color was too pale compared to others, in
Puerto Rico she was being called blanca or gringa. She thought she was a black sheep in her own
home town in Puerto Rico. She assumed her racial problems would end then, but in the U.S
instead of her skin presumably being too light colored, her skin was then considered too dark
colored. Her first racial prejudice racismoccurred when she went to a local grocery store owned by
3 Italian brothers to buy somethings for her mother, which she enjoyed the journey to and back
from the store, in her new hometown, Paterson, New Jersey According to Ortiz Cofer, the mean
brother, which was the meat butcherindicated her as being colored. Ortiz Cofer was surprised with
his comment, not being familiar to this slur, she then suddenly felt saddened. She then felt out of
place again, just like she was in Puerto Rico. Another time of racial racism that occurred in the
supermarket was when she was playing with the Susie dolls hair, and she wanted it for Christmas
this year. The butcher caught a glimpse of the little girl playing with this Susie doll and came up to
her and said,

Human Rights, Democracy, And Peace
In a few decades, the relationship between the environment, resources, and conflict may seem
almost as obvious as the connection we see today between human rights, democracy, and peace
(Nobel Peace Prize Medalist Maathai 2004). TransCanada, a Canadian company, has high hopes
of beginning to build an oil pipeline that would stretch close to 2,000 miles from Alberta, Canada
to the Gulf Coast of Texas. With the approval of construction, the pipeline, known as the
Keystone XL, would carry one of the world s filthiest fuels; tar sand oil. Tar sands oil alone has
levels of carbon dioxide emissions that are three to four times higher than those of conventional oil,
due to more energy intensive removal and refining processes (Friends of the... Show more content

The U.S. uses nearly 400 million gallons of oil every day moving people in automobiles, goods
on freight trucks, air travel, also rail and transit. Cars and everyday trucks use nine million barrels
of oil per day alone (Sierra Club Foundation). Oil poses major environmental problems, and the
world s heavy reliance on it for transportation makes it difficult to reduce consumption. Spilled oil
can harm living things because its chemical components are poisonous. This can affect organisms
both from internal exposure to oil through ingestion or inhalation and from external exposure
through skin and eye irritation. Oil can also smother some small species of fish or invertebrates
and coat feathers and fur, reducing birds and mammals ability to maintain their body temperatures.
The short term threat from heavy oils, like tar sand oil, comes from their ability to smother
organisms whereas over the long term, some long lasting health effects like tumors may result in
some organisms (Office of Response and Restoration). If animals like birds and otters become
drenched in heavy oil, they lose the ability to keep themselves warm and eventually die. The
Keystone XL supporters exhaust the idea that constructing of the Keystone will create thousands of
jobs. While that is partially true, the numbers are exaggerated and unemployment will only raise
half of what supporters

Summary Of John Locke s Second Treatise Of Government
In John Locke s Second Treatise of Government, Locke discusses a lot of important topics. The
topics discussed are the state of nature, common wealth, a civil society, equality of men, and
much more. In my writing, I will be discussing a few of these topics. I will be explaining how
John Locke s account of the state of nature set up and support his argument for a liberal political
structure of civil society. John Lockebegins the Second Treatise of Government by discussing the
state of nature. This state of nature that he talks about is the equality and freedom all men receive
at birth and the liberty they have when it comes to their lives and property. This means that the
decisions a man makes cannot be narrowed by another man, making them all living in the same
state, also known as the state of nature. Locke then quotes Richard Hooker on the obligation to
mutual love amongst all men (8). Hooker talks about how equality is the fundament of a civil
society and how if a man wants something, he must give it first. John Locke then talks about how
when a man... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He starts off this chapter by saying that God having made man such a creature, that in his own
judgement, it was not good for him to be alone... (42). While saying that men should always
work together, Locke also talks about how a man can also join a political society where every
one of the members hath quitted this natural power, resigned it up into the hands of the
community in all cases that lished by it (46). Here, Locke is saying how if a man wants to be a
part of the political party, he must get rid of some or all the things that a state of nature provides
to him. Locke believes this is how a political society should work because if a man wishes to live in
a society ran off political ideas, he must give up his state of nature to live in a civil political
society which does not give him more freedom or rights than any other

Queen Cecily s Leadership Style
A high stone ceiling etched with fine silver filagree arched above the cavernous throne room.
Below this, dark marble floors were polished until their inky surfaces shone like glass. The walls
were intersected by evenly spaced archways leading to doorways which, in turn, led to various
other parts of the castle. A carpet of bloodred velvet stretched the length of the hall, leading from
the massive, ebony doors at one end to the high backed throne at the other end. The person sitting
in this throne, however, looked out of place. One would expect a regal figure with striking
features, perhaps resplendent in intricate robes and a heavy crown wrought with gold and fine
gems. Instead, Queen Cecily, a plain looking, twelve year old girl, sat hunched in the straight
backed chair, not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since Queen Cecily had been a very small child when she had ascended the throne, the Chancellor
had been tasked with directing the Queendom until she became an adult. He, of course, had no
intention of handing over the role of supreme leader anytime soon, and was planning on ruling for
the rest of his life, using the Queen as a puppet to direct as he pleased. Queen Cecily didn t mind
in the slightest that she had no say in how her Queendom was run; politics bored her. In fact, she
was quite happy to go along with whatever Thanos said, seeing as he was handsome, charming,
and gave her his undivided attention and affection. The woman straightened, brushing her long,
dark hair away from her face to reveal a smooth, alabaster complexion and a set of piercing green

Persuasive Essay On Gun Control Laws
of sixty two mass shootings done by Mother Jones, about forty nine of the weapons were bought
legally! Twelve of were obtained through illegal methods, and the last one was unknown
(Follman). Whether mentally fit or not, loose gun control laws allow those untrustworthy to buy
guns and possible commit heinous acts. The addition of strict gun control laws can reduce deaths
and crimes rates by firearms drastically, as gun ownership decreases and new regulation can
prevent horrific accidents from happening. Canada serves as a perfect representation of the benefit
of strict gun control laws and how they help improve crime and death due to firearms in America.
Canada has two main laws concerning firearms, the Firearms Acts and the Criminal Codes. The
Firearms Acts pertain to the right to possess firearms, the means of transportation, and offenses due
to violations of the act. This act specifies the rules of permits, such as where one can keep the gun,
what happens to the gun in certain situations (like the death of an owner), and more. The Criminal
Codes pertain more towards the three categories of firearms, non restricted, restricted, and
prohibited firearms. The Criminal Codes go in depth of what guns belong in what class and much
more (Ahmad). The United Stateshowever does have laws pertaining to guns, such as Brady
Handgun Violence Prevention Actand Gun Control Act. The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention
Act mandates federal background checks of those who purchase firearms, although Canada has
more of a focus on mental health and addiction ( Brady Law ). Similar to the Firearms Acts and
Criminal Codes, the Gun Control Acts cover a similar basis of the idea of regulating firearms (
Gun Control Act ). While Canada and the U.S have similar laws for firearms, Canada has more
stricter and beneficial laws, and the evidence shows how that has effects on firearmdeaths,

American War And The American Civil War
In the beginning when America was uniting and trying to form its official government the northern
states and the southern states had already different greatly from each other. The North was
industrializing and working on expanding west and the South was booming with farming and its
famous cash crop. The North wanted to abolish slavery and the South did not. Since the North and
South had so many differences and could not keep a steady compromise, heavy tensions arose
between the North and the South which then caused the Southern states of America to decide to
leave the American Union and create their own Southern Confederacy. This tore our nation apart.
The American Civil Warhad begun and the very people that were once neighbors had each... Show

For example, farming was the main source of income for the Confederate states. The main southern
chief crop which came to be known as King Cotton, accounted for 57% of all U.S. exports ( Civil
War ). However, in order to produce these large amounts of cotton, the southern Confederate states
depended heavily on slave labor. Since cotton production began to dominate and fuel the southern
economy, the South felt that they did not need to industrialize like their northern neighbors did.
This caused the South to manufacture very little goods and caused them to purchase manufactured
goods from the industrialized North or to purchase imported goods from overseas.
Unlike the Confederate South, the North decided to not utilize slave labor like the South did
because their economy did not call for farming that required large amounts of labor for rapid
production. The Union also decided to not utilize slave labor because slave labor was against many
of the northerner s morals. Since the North was industrialized and they manufactured goods, they
had to compete with other manufactures overseas. To demolish competition from the imported
goods from overseas, the northerners demanded high tariffs on the imported goods so that more
people will buy the manufactured goods from the North instead of the now more expensive
imported goods from overseas. The

Freud and Rapunzel
In the fairy tale Rapunzel , the dreamer, Rapunzel, successfully passes through all the Freudian
psychosexual stages of development. Symbolism helps to illustrate the dreamer s movement
through the five stages. The Witch portrays the super ego figure in Rapunzel . Rapunzel s
mother plays the Id figure. The events of Rapunzel s life lead the reader to identify the dream as
more of a nightmare. Her father agrees to give Rapunzel to a witch, who then locks Rapunzel in a
tall tower; only rescued by a passing prince. Yonic and phallic imagery help identify the dreamer s
current stage of psychosexual development. Although delayed by the witch, the dreamer Rapunzel

His act of agreement transitions the dreamer to the anal stage. The witch takes the baby as part of
the agreement, naming her Rapunzel, another word for rampion, symbolizing another oral image.
When Rapunzel turns twelve, the witch locks her in a tower to hide her beauty from the world.
Although the tower represents phallic image, it also symbolizes how the dreamer becomes anal
retentive. The tower had neither stairs nor doors, only high up at the very top a small window ;
the witch tries to keep Rapunzel from the outside world, in theory, keeping her in (1). During the
anal stage, a normal child learns to control ones bodily functions. Thus, Rapunzel becomes
dependent on the witch. As the story continues, a prince happens upon the tower and learns that
the entrance to Rapunzel s tower is by her, long blonde hair. So the next day he comes to the
tower, and repeats the witch s words Let down your golden hair and the Prince climbs up (2). At
first, the prince scares Rapunzel but he then spoke to her so kindly and that his heart had been so
touched by her singing (2). Rapunzel undergoes sexual identification through the prince, another
indication of the phallic stage. The prince then offers to help Rapunzel leave the tower and to marry
him (2). Rapunzel agrees to the prince s plan, and in effect, she attempts to leave the anal stage. But
when her escape is eminent she slips in revealing that she communicates with the prince. After her

An Essay on Modernism vs. Traditionalism in The Mayor of Casterbridge
During the first half of the 19th century English society was making the difficult transition from a
pre industrial Britain to В‘modern Victorian times. In agriculture, most of the transition took place
around 1846 with the repeal of the corn laws. This allowed foreign grain to be imported into
England for the first time. Consequently, the entire structure and methods of agriculture in Britain
were greatly altered. Much of the action in Thomas Hardy s novel The Mayor of Casterbridge takes
place during the years surrounding 1846. These were the years in which traditionalists took their
last stand before being defeated in the name of progress. The contrasts between ... Show more

(p. 94 95). A traditional form of respect for their employers found Henchard s employees fearing
him as illustrated though Abel Whittle s reaction to Henchard s reprimand. Farfrae however,
took a more modern approach by instilling respect in Whittle out of justice. Abel was in the

his breeches. I don t care what Mr. Henchard said, nor anybody else! В‘Tis simple foolishness to

and with justice which is illustrative of his modern attitude toward an employee reprimand. The
contrasting views on business ethics held by Henchard and Farfrae are illustrative of the contrasts
between tradition and modernization.
Similarly, the contrasting attitudes that Henchard and Farfrae take toward modernization and new
developments help to illustrate the conflict of tradition versus modernism in Casterbridge society.
As a result of technological progress, a new machine had been developed and introduced to the

Abstract This health behavior change project focuses on expanding my consumption of all food

using super tracker, I am consuming below recommended intakes in all my food groups, the
worst being my primary objectives (vegetables, and seafood) with near 0 grams of ingestion.
This can lead to many deficiencies and diseases, like malnutrition according to Michelle
McGuire, and Kathy Beerman (2006) in their book Nutritional Sciences: From Fundamentals to
Food (p. 30). Based on the theory of transtheoretical model of behavior change, I am in the

Living A Happy And Simple Life
Do you think it is possible to live a happy and simple life? It is more than certainly possible to live
a life of bliss, even in a world with today s chaotic means. You do not need to be rich in order to
live a luxurious life, you could be the poorest person in the world but also the happiest. Social
media is also a very big aspect for humanity when it comes to happiness.
As stated in the introduction, you can be the poorest person in the world, yet happier than the
richest person. A statement from a very well known commercial and advertisement company
Charmin Ultra, less is more, is a very great statement to be used in this aspect, because a person that

Some may say that money is what true happiness is all about, money buys happiness, and
without riches, you are nothing and have no reasons to be happy, nor exist. If one has all the best
things in life, it will make them happy, for it has no reason to do otherwise. Social networking is
mandatory because without it you are left in the dark about what is going on in the world and one
s happiness has nothing to do with people s use of social media.
However, those who say money buys happiness must be one of two things; liers or blind to the
fact that you can have true happiness with no money at all. According to Bruno, Living simple is
not easy because it requires lots of patience and dedication. First you would need to make a game
plan and know you want in life, what you need, and what you can live without. It is interesting to
find out all the things you can live without that you once thought you needed to survive. Planning is
the key to having a happy and simple life (2017).
Social Media is more than definitely an indication for one s happiness because as stated early,
there are many events that occur where someone gets bullied and begins having suicidal thoughts
or get depressed from all the negative situations shown on the Internet which allows no room for
happiness. Sometimes it is better to not know what is going on in life, if it has no personal affect
on you, their should be no reason for you to

If the aggregate fair market value of the loss corporation s assets either exceeds or is less than its aggregate tax basis in those assets by an amount which is more than the lesser of 10% of the aggregate value of the assets on that date or $10 million, then special rules apply. If in the year of the transaction or a later year the corporationrecognized gain on propertywhich it owned on the transaction date, the annual limitation would be increased for that year by the amount necessary to shelter the portion of its net unrealized built in gain attributable to such property. The net unrealized built in gain is the excess of the aggregate value of all of the corporation s property on the transaction date over its aggregate tax basis in all of its property at that time. Conversely, if the corporation had built in loss, the loss would be limited the same way that the NOL would be limited. Disallowance of the Entire Carryforward. If the loss corporation does not continue its historic business during the two year period following the ownership change, the entire carryforward is disallowed. Even after the carryforward is disallowed, the built in gain can be offset by the built in losses. Purpose Test. • 4. Long Term Care Policy Summary This article states that Hawaii is introducing a policy to reduce the burden on caregivers who are providing long term and end of life care to family members. This policy introduces a stipend of 70 dollars per day for people caring for an elderly family member. The policy has some limitations. Only those who work at least 30 hours a week can utilize this stipend. The intent is for caregivers to use this stipend to supplement wages, hire help, and buy caregiving supplies. This relates to some of the points brought up in this week s discussion board and long term care. Many others have mentioned that having to pay for long term care for elderly relatives is emotionally and financially stressful. This scenario of being the primary caregiver for elderly relatives, rather than putting them in a nursing facility, also adds the stress of time management and the emotional and mental stress of walking a relative through the last stages of their life. Many of those in Hawaii do not want to put their loved ones in long term care facilities for a multitude of reasons, such as wanting to be close to family, distrust of the quality of government or insurance run long term care ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When I first read this article, I doubted that family members would be able to provide adequate medical support to aging adults, without the help of health care workers. However, I can see how keeping an aging relative in a familiar environment can be conducive to the improvement of their emotional and mental health. It also seems that it would be less costly for family members to provide long term care, provided that their elderly relative does not have a serious condition that required advanced medical care. However, I think the stipend could also remedy this by allowing caregivers economic means to hire support, such as certified nursing assistants and home health ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Security Background And Threats Of Terrorism Essay One. Security background and threats of terrorism Since the beginning of a 21st century, an international security environment has been proved to be more volatile, unpredictable, complex and ambiguity with their challenging effects in various ways. Thus, those challenging situations take into particular considerations when combating terrorism throughout the national security strategy. The civil war, sectarian spillovers of crises, state catastrophe in central Africa and the Middle East will likely to be continued with growing scale and concern. Most worrisome is the emergence in Iraq and Syria of the self proclaimed Islamic State known as ISIS whose brutal violence, ability to capture and hold territory, significant financial resources, and impressive strategic acumen make it a threat like any other the United States has faced in the contemporary era. The Radical Islamic terrorism as An act of terror and an act of hate is well nested in Iraq and Syria will also likely to cause more instability and extreme violence in the region, and in entire world. Similarities Between The Crucible And Mccarthyism Essay Hi I am Alex and this essay will contain and discuss the following subjects: playwright Arthur Miller, Senator Joseph McCarthy and McCarthyism, The Crucible vs. The Salem Witch Trials, the Puritans, and Hysteria. So enjoy. Arthur Miller: Arthur Miller was born in Harlem, New York on October 17,1915. His parents were of Polish and Jewish descent. He received his college education from the University of Michigan. Miller was a famous playwright. Perhaps some of his more known works were The Crucible , which was based on the Salem Witch Trials which took place from 1692 to 1693. He also wrote A View from the Bridge , and Death of a Salesman which won a Pulitzer Prize. Miller was married to sex symbol Marilyn Monroe. Their marriage was referred to as the Great American Brain and the Great American Body . McCarthyism: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... McCarthy spent almost 5 years trying in vain to expose communists and other left wing loyalty risks in the US government. McCarthy accusations were so intimidating a few people dared to speak out against him. A practice of making accusations of treason became to be known as McCarthyism, which was also known as the Red Scare . The McCarthyism era ended on June 9, 1954. The play The Crucible drew many parallels to Mccarthyism. The Crucible: A crucible is a container of metal or refractory material employed for heating substances to high temperatures. Statistics have indicated an increasing rate of divorce in countries like Belgium and Chile as being very high and only a few places like the Philippines depict low rates (Kittleson, et.al, 2005). It is on account of these developments that we seriously ponder and guess on what really caused the sudden rise. Is it a problem with the individual or is it society s drawback? It is commonly quotes that half of the marriages that exist today end up in divorce. Taking the example of Canada, latest studies have found that four in ten first marriages end in divorce (cbc.ca, 2015). What has drawn attention is not just the figures but it is the comparison between the present and the past figures and the rate with which they are rising (Kittleson,et.al, 2005). Divorce indeed has existed over many generations. The reasons given for divorce in society have not really changed much but have only become more complicated because of the societal dynamics. While pursuing solutions to this issue, strategies have been laid out just like that applied to many other problems . The best way to explain the process is by using a metaphor , I felt like a lawyer who was prepared to win for their client, except in my case the client was my thesis and I was my own lawyer. My point was supported, but I also wanted those which had counter ideas to feel that my argumentative essay did them justice by trying to analyze their point of view thoroughly. When mentioning the counter argument on how lobbying should be regulated I found validity in some of their arguments, seen by. • 36. Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech At The Virginia Convention During 1775, colonists were going through something that affected them deeply. Living under Britain s rule, they had little to no freedom. In Speech at the Virginia Convention Henry expresses his view on living under Britain s rule. He encourages American men to fight against the British in order to ensure freedom. Patrick Henry persuades his audience by showing it will be necessary to go to battle through his powerful use of ethos, imagery and rhetorical questions. Patrick Henry establishes credibility by showing that it will be necessary to go to battle through his use of ethos in the text. Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country (Henry). This explains that Patrick feels that if he holds back in order to not offend anyone, it ll be like betraying his own country. Moreover, Patrick Henry expresses credibility by stating Guilty of treason towards my country, and of an act of disloyalty toward the majesty of heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings (Henry). He reveals that he is guilty of treason towards his country, which shows an act of disloyalty towards God in which he respects more than anyone. Next, Henry uses metaphors throughout the text to convey his credibility. I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience (Henry). In the book Hiroshima John Hersey tells the stories of six atomic bomb survivors from the exact moment to the years following. Reverend Mr. Kiyoshi Tanimoto was a Methodist pastor that on the day of the bombing jumped between two large rocks for protection. • 40. The Theories of Bandura versus Erikson How does an infant develop into an adult? The answer is not as obvious as it seems. There are a variety of factors that contribute to human development. A person not only grows physically but also cognitively and socio emotionally. This paper will explain two theories; one cognitive and one socio emotional; about human development. The two theories will be described, compared, contrasted and individually evaluated based on the strong points and limitations. The first theory examined is Albert Bandura s social cognitive/learning theory. A child does not automatically know how to interpret their environment, but they can learn about the world around them and how to manipulate their surroundings by observing people around them. According to Bandura (2002), Viewed from the sociocognitive perspective, human nature is characterised [sic] by a vast potentiality that can be fashioned by direct and vicarious experience into a variety of forms within biological limits (pp. 271 272). Although a large amount of learning from watching other people happens in childhood, a person can acquire new skills or knowledge at any point in their life with the help of other people. The second theory examined is Erik Eriksons eight stages of psychosocial development. Each stage in Erikson s theory involves a conflict/crisis that a person must work through to evolve their personality. Rosenthal (1981) explains that, Each stage arises because a new dimension of social interaction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the short story, The Story of my body, the author, Judith Ortiz Cofer comes to relations with this. She describes how she was victim of judgment because she was a kid whom looked different than most American kids. Ortiz Cofer tried to change everything about who she really is just to get by for the day without being judged. She was labled different, all she ever wanted to do was to be like everyone else. This eventually led to her being depressed. Within the story, Oritz Cofer describes how terrible she was treated due to her Puerto Rican heritage and skin color, and how she would never be able to fit in. Minorities of different complexions get ridiculed and judged for their skin color by many people every day. In this short story, Ortiz Cofer stated, I was born a white girl in Puerto Ricobut became a brown girl when I came to live in the United States (Ortiz Cofer 393). This is the first sentence in the story and it s showing how Cofer was right from the gecko being shunned for having a different skin complexion. Because her skin color was too pale compared to others, in Puerto Rico she was being called blanca or gringa. She thought she was a black sheep in her own home town in Puerto Rico. She assumed her racial problems would end then, but in the U.S instead of her skin presumably being too light colored, her skin was then considered too dark colored. Her first racial prejudice racismoccurred when she went to a local grocery store owned by 3 Italian brothers to buy somethings for her mother, which she enjoyed the journey to and back from the store, in her new hometown, Paterson, New Jersey According to Ortiz Cofer, the mean brother, which was the meat butcherindicated her as being colored. Ortiz Cofer was surprised with his comment, not being familiar to this slur, she then suddenly felt saddened. She then felt out of place again, just like she was in Puerto Rico. The topics discussed are the state of nature, common wealth, a civil society, equality of men, and much more. In my writing, I will be discussing a few of these topics. I will be explaining how John Locke s account of the state of nature set up and support his argument for a liberal political structure of civil society. John Lockebegins the Second Treatise of Government by discussing the state of nature. This state of nature that he talks about is the equality and freedom all men receive at birth and the liberty they have when it comes to their lives and property. This means that the decisions a man makes cannot be narrowed by another man, making them all living in the same state, also known as the state of nature. Locke then quotes Richard Hooker on the obligation to mutual love amongst all men (8). Hooker talks about how equality is the fundament of a civil society and how if a man wants something, he must give it first. John Locke then talks about how when a man... • 46. Persuasive Essay On Gun Control Laws of sixty two mass shootings done by Mother Jones, about forty nine of the weapons were bought legally! Twelve of were obtained through illegal methods, and the last one was unknown (Follman). Whether mentally fit or not, loose gun control laws allow those untrustworthy to buy guns and possible commit heinous acts. The addition of strict gun control laws can reduce deaths and crimes rates by firearms drastically, as gun ownership decreases and new regulation can prevent horrific accidents from happening. Canada serves as a perfect representation of the benefit of strict gun control laws and how they help improve crime and death due to firearms in America. Canada has two main laws concerning firearms, the Firearms Acts and the Criminal Codes. The Firearms Acts pertain to the right to possess firearms, the means of transportation, and offenses due to violations of the act. This act specifies the rules of permits, such as where one can keep the gun, what happens to the gun in certain situations (like the death of an owner), and more. The Criminal Codes pertain more towards the three categories of firearms, non restricted, restricted, and prohibited firearms. The Criminal Codes go in depth of what guns belong in what class and much more (Ahmad). The United Stateshowever does have laws pertaining to guns, such as Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Actand Gun Control Act. The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act mandates federal background checks of those who purchase firearms, although Canada has more of a focus on mental health and addiction ( Brady Law ). Similar to the Firearms Acts and Criminal Codes, the Gun Control Acts cover a similar basis of the idea of regulating firearms ( Gun Control Act ). While Canada and the U.S have similar laws for firearms, Canada has more stricter and beneficial laws, and the evidence shows how that has effects on firearmdeaths, According to 2010 data available at Statistics Canada, over the past thirty years firearm related homicides have continued to decline. Statistics Assignment Six The purpose of this paper is to analyze the difference in means between the three groups and within the three groups by conducting an analysis of variance (ANOVA) test (Salkind, 2013). The variables that will be used within this paper are from the research scenario. The two variables are: ability to identify hypertension lifestyle factors which consist of three groups cannot identify, can identify some, can identify all and the variable willingness to engage in self care. The writer will go through seven hypotheses testing steps, discuss and interpret the research findings, provide a descriptive summary of the variables and lastly implications for research and nursing practice based on the study findings.
