Earth is composed of several layers including a crust, mantle, and core. The crust is the thin, solid outermost layer made up of both oceanic and continental crust. Beneath the crust is the mantle, which makes up two-thirds of the Earth's mass and is able to move through convection currents. At the very center is the core, which has both a solid inner core and liquid outer core. The Earth has unique characteristics including liquid water and oxygen in its atmosphere that support life.
