This document summarizes three fanzines about different topics. It notes that fanzines can have experimental designs and focus on opinionated content about topics their creators are interested in. The first fanzine discussed is about Doctor Who and praised for its modern design and use of color and images related to the topic. The second is also about Doctor Who and praised for its use of headings and range of content. The third fanzine is about Banksy and praised for its wall design fitting the theme of Banksy's graffiti and focus on his art through placement of text.

The Fanzine is about doctor who. I liked the design of it, the use
space. I see this as quite a modern design. I like how closely the
image they have used reflects the topic so well. The use of the pull
quote is quite effective, as it really makes you question what the
piece is about, and draws you in. I also like the colour theme going
on. The use of shades of green is effective at giving the pages a sense
of identity of the fanzine. Like how brands use certain colours, for
example PlayStation uses variants of blue as their colour theme. The
fanzine was published on September 22nd 2011. The creator of the
fanzine has made other doctor centered fanzines.

This is also a doctor who centered fanzine. I like the way they have
used the theme of red throughout the double page. There may be
no pull quotes but the headings do a similar job. As they attract the
readers to certain parts. I like the use of Drop Cap. I like the range
of content as well, as it covers news, reviews, lore, fans.

The Fanzine is about Banksy. The fanzine goes into who he is, what
he has done, what his work says etc. I really like the wall design on
each page. It really fits the theme of Banksy, As he is know for his
world Famous graffiti. I like the choice to not to use too much
colour, allowing some of the art to get more attention and focus.
This is also reinforce by there not being much content besides the
art. Centering more focus on the pieces. I like the way the author
hasn't taken anything away from Banksy’s art, only added to the
discussion around it. I also like the placement of the text, as it is in
a great position for reading it. As some magazines/fanzines end up
with the text too close to the margin or too close to the edges. I
really like the design of the page numbers, the use of graffiti is
really good, fits with the aesthetic and theme so well.

8. Research summary
• Summarise what you have learned about fanzines.
• In design they can look very similar to magazines, but
some look more experimental then anything else.
• The main area of a fanzines are the content. Magazines
will usually take a more professional and less
opinionated stance to content. Whereas fanzines are
more opinionated, as they are usually about something
the writer/s are interested in quite a bit. For example
there is many football club fanzines, made by the fans
and for the fans.
