Leprosy is classified as paucibacillary or multibacillary depending on the number of skin lesions and nerve involvement. Treatment involves multidrug therapy (MDT) blister packs containing rifampicin, dapsone, and clofazimine. The World Health Organization provides MDT free of cost. Patients take medications daily or monthly depending on if they have paucibacillary or multibacillary leprosy. Over 10 million people have been cured with MDT which is also safe to use during pregnancy or with tuberculosis. Leprosy reactions like Type 1 and Type 2 can occur and are treated with corticosteroids and clofazimine.
