Rhetorical Devices In John Winthrop s A Model Of Christian...
The Use of Rhetorical Devices in John Winthrop s A Model of Christian Charity In 1630, John
Winthrop made a speech to the Puritans while on the Arabella as they headed to what is now North
America. This speech is entitled A Model of Christian Charity, and was designed to instruct the
Puritans on how to behave in this New World . Winthrop utilizes many rhetorical devices in this
speech to enhance its meaning. Some of these devices include metaphors, question and answer
segments, and juxtaposition. Winthrop uses these rhetorical devices for a variety of reasons, either
to further prove a point or bring more attention to a particular idea. Throughout his speech,
Winthrop uses metaphors to make the concepts he is talking about more relatable

Icarus Literary Devices
Greek mythology can be transformed to fit different circumstances in modern society. In his poem,
Icarus, Edward Field utilizes a myriad of different literary devices and techniques to adapt this age
old myth to a more contemporary setting. Field illustrates his interpretation of the myth in a
modern context through the use of symbols, contemporary connections to society, and strong
diction. Also, he focuses on other views of the fall of Icarus instead of only the fall itself.
Throughout his poem, these devices help to communicate his point of view on the myth to a
modern day audience. Symbolism is a key feature that aids in providing a deeper meaning to a
piece. In the myth, Icarus melted his wings by flying too close to the sun. In the poem,

Examples Of Negligence In Nursing
In the healthcare setting nurses, doctors and the entire multidisciplinary team are without a doubt
on the frontline when it comes to exposure. Whether in the hospital or in the community there is
always an element of liability. In this particular discussion I will address nursing negligence,
perfection and standard of care, the four elements of negligenceand the importance of
documentation with regards to nursing negligence.
The Nursing profession is a broadly debatable topic. In Ireland in particular the standard of nurses
is generally good but nurses at the end of the day are only human and naturally make mistakes.
This can lead to the issue of nursing negligence. According to Lee (2000) Nursing negligence is the

It is important to know that perfection in nursing is neither expected nor possible. However
excellence in the standard of care for a patient is. Perfection cannot be achieved. Nurses are not
machines. At the end of the day nurses can only do what they believe is best for the patient and
if failure is an outcome then they cannot be held accountable. The patient signs a consent form
with the knowledge that failure can always be expected regarding treatments. However it is the
nurse s duty to respond correctly to failures as a duty of care and carry out a high standard of
care hoping for the best possible outcome. Standard of care itself is more defined. It is derived
from organizational policies, procedures and those from regulatory bodies. Policies and
procedures are in place to define the minimum of staff members. They are merely guidelines and
staff members are encouraged to exceed the guidelines set out. It is the staff s responsibility to
follow these guidelines when in practice. Other sources such as documented and mandatory in
services days are also set up to ensure significant knowledge of practice is in place, thus the

Differences Between Cotton Gin And Lowell Mill Women

18 April 2018Cotton gin and lowell mill girls
Before the machines were invented there were only women to do the job. Let s suppose that a
woman could make one skirt a day before the invention and after the change in technology she
could make 50. The good part of the lowell mill girls was that it could make hundreds a day. But
the bad part of technology was that the workers did not have a job and the workers would not
have enough money to buy food for their family. Also the bosses could just buy more slaves to pick
the cotton. Without a doubt, technology in the 1800s machines could mass produce.
In the late 1700s the invention of new machines launched the first wave of industrial revolution.

Strength And Conditioning Specialist
To be a strength and conditioning specialist, certain education is required. To find a job in the
strength and conditioning field, it is recommended to have a bachelor s degree in exercise science
or kinesiology. Though the degree is very important, the overall most important thing to have is a
certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. This certification is only
given to those who show that they understand the proper things in the profession. Certified strength

Pros And Cons Of The American Dream
Can young adults today still fulfill their American Dream? This is something that is being
questioned across the nation and everyone has a different opinion. In America Now edited by
Robert Atwan, Barack Obama and other journalists state their opinion on the American Dream
explaining whether it is still possible today. The American Dream defined as the ideal that every
US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard
work, determination, and initiative. Whether the American Dream is possible or not varies
from each person, but in my experience, I believe it can be accomplished. A vast amount of
students are attending college, either a community college or a four year college, making it
possible for them to prosper. A lot of first generation students are seen across college campuses; I
am one of those students. Student aid such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
makes it possible for students from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds afford college.
Parents and the students do not have to deal with the burden of trying to pay for the full cost of
attendance of college. For this reason, ... college enrollment has been rising since 2007 as well
(Tushnet 354). Students going to college get to choose their field of study. By giving them this
ability, they have more motivation to seek success and work hard towards their goal. As a first

The second phase of the project includes constructing a pulp mill and will cost US$1 billion.
Today (2004) PГ©rez main problem is that he has to decide whether the company should go
through a horizontal expansion or a forward integration. In others words, if the company should
continue with the second phase of The Nueva Aldea project becoming the largest market pulp
producer in the world and having the possibility of foregoing other large projects in the next
decade or to take advantage of their low costs in pulp production by forward integrating into paper
manufacturing.
Evaluation of the two alternatives:
As regards the horizontal expansion, there are several points that must be taken into account as
they demonstrate that this option will be the correct one: * This expansion will grow the
company market share because they have a cost advantage. * For a company is better and easier
to grow in a sector that they are presently functioning. * The market seems to be moving in favor.
* As a result of a horizontal expansion the company can achieve economies of scale and reduce
significantly their costs. * Pulp is AraucoВґs main industrial activity, generating up 52% of
EBITDA * Pulp production is the core competency of Arauco. * Becoming the market leader will
allow them to control supply and demand of the market of pulp. * They have young forests. *
Arauco is one of the worldВґs premier forestry enterprises

Comparing the Arthurian Legends and J.R.R. Tolkien s The...
A Medieval Contest
In comparing and contrasting the Arthurian Legends and J.R.R. Tolkien amp;#8217;s book The
Fellowship of the Ring, it is almost like a medieval contest between the two with many of the
similarities coming from the customs of the Middle Ages. A look at the make up of the groups
involved, the moral code, the protagonist, the antagonist, the use of supernatural elements and the
knightly quest involved in each book shows how alike they are but yet different.
The Arthurian Legends revolve around the life of the knights during the Middle Ages. A knight
would pledge his loyalty to God, his King, fellow knights and to women in distress. Tolkien

The moral code of the knights of the Round Table which was renewed at the feast of Pentecost
every year was to: amp;#8220;only fight in just cause, at all times to be merciful, at a all times
to put the service of ladies foremost. ; (Malory, p.344.) Sir Gawain amp;#8217;s strength was
increased for three hours every morning but after noon would decrease. Once when in battle
with Sir Launcelot to avenge the death of his two brothers by Sir Launcelot, Sir Launcelot
realizes Sir Gawain amp;#8217;s strength is less so he says to him amp;#8220;Sir Gawain, I
have endured many blows from you but I see that you have weakened ; and then turns to King
Arthur and says, amp;#8220;My liege, your expedition can find no honorable conclusion, so I pray
you withdraw and spare your noble knights ; (Malory, p.373.) showing mercy and fair play.
Frodo Baggins also takes on a moral code as he accepts his role as the Ring Bearer. Hobbits by
nature are fun loving and non competitive, but Frodo says to Elrond, amp;#8220;I will take the
ring. . .though I do not know the way. ; (Tolkien, p.324) When sitting in the chair of the Guardian
Kings of Gordor at the top of Amon Hen in the Seat of Seeing, Frodo sees the world covered by

Modern Olympic Games Boycotts
From the beginning of the modern Olympic Games in 1896 the games have been the essence of
how sports can directly affect politics. The Olympic Games are arguably the most popular multi
sporting event in the world. As of 2010, twenty three Nations and thirty nine separate cities have
hosted the Olympics since its revival in 1896 (Saum 8). The 1980 and 1984 Olympic Gameshas
been labeled as a case study , examining the relationship between sports and politics, and how they
affect each other. Some argue that the United Statespurposely boycotted the 1980 Olympics as a
low risked protest against the Soviet Unions invasion into Afghanistan, and also displaying the
success of both capitalism and socialism. At the end of the 1984 Olympic Games the United
States came out victorious with a more economically successful Olympic Games then the Soviet
Union s, who held the 1980 Olympic Games. Thus, concluding the triumph of Capitalism over
socialism. In The Political Olympics: Moscow, Afghanistan, and the 1980 U.S. Boycott, Derick
Hulme states that The peripheral relationship of sport to international relations allows leaders to
turn to it, aware that its use will be relatively low risk, especially as evaluated against its potential
benefits (Hulme 14). In other words the 1980 and 1984 Olympic Games were a way for the
United States and Soviets to send low risk political statements. The outcome of the games were
not going to cause all out war or even decided the Cold war,

NO Spiritual Reward for Depriving the Physical Body
There is NO Spiritual Reward for Depriving the Physical Body of Comfort or Pleasure
I. Doctrine
There is a great falsehood that is perpetuated by the modern church, and it is one that threatens the
very mission assigned to every believer in Matthew 28:18 20. Before one can address this
falsehood, one must understand the duty of God s people in this life. It is the believer s task to go
and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them as God ordained, and teaching them how to obey
the teachings of Jesus. What then are the teachings of Jesus? As believers, we hold as doctrine
that God the Father, along with the Holy Spirit and the Son created all that is. He gave Man, God
s special creation made in His own image, dominion over the ... Show more content on

This heresy is the idea that there is a spiritual reward for depriving the physical body of comfort or
pleasure. The Catholics who endured the outbreaks of bubonic plague in the Middle Ages
sometimes resorted to self flagellation, a practice of whipping or beating one s self in order to
gain favor with God (and presumably avoid plague). Catholics have long practiced similar
traditions, with some devout Catholics praying on particularly uncomfortable prayer mats or
refusing red meat on certain days. Some Catholic clergy go so far as to wear burlap
undergarments, so as to suffer with Christ and perhaps gain favor with God. This heretical doctrine
declares the atonement by Christ to be an incomplete one, and contradicts His final words, the
confirmation that It is finished (John 19:30b).
The particular incarnation of this heresy that pervades even the evangelical churches of today
comes to light in those churches condemnation of various things, including drugs and alcohol.
Now, as described above, all things created by God in the beginning were good. The use of the
earth s resources was given to Man, and with it responsibility. The scriptures indicate that alcohol
can be a deceiver. Immoderate use of alcohol leads to drunkenness, which the scriptures indeed
condemn (Galatians 5:19 21). However, alcohol was never forbidden to the Hebrews, and Jesus
himself made it at the wedding in Cana (John 2). It seems clear that the alcohol itself is not what

Persecution Of Christians
To understand Roman persecution of Christians, we must first understand the setting and context
for which it was in. Romans ruled when Jesus was crucified. The persecutions took place in the first
half century after the crucifixion. At this point in time, the Roman government did not take action
against Christians. They always looked at Christianityas an act of Judaism. Since they felt that it
was in the same category as Judaism, they felt it was only fair for Christians to have the same
religious privileges that the others had. In 64 AD, all of those feelings of toleration went
downhill. The great Fire of Rome left half a million people without a home. Rumor had it that the
tragedy happened due to a bomb or device that Emperor Nero had... Show more content on

Diocletian came along and changed the tune of the story. He tolerated the churches for a little
while, until he could not stand it any longer. He then waged what would be the final great
persecution. The first stage of his war on Christians was for the Christian churches to be
destroyed and for their holy text to be burned. Christians no longer had the rights and freedoms
that the laws once gave them. Diocletian then ordered for all clergy members to face
incarceration. Diocletian and Galerius teamed together to make things even worse for Christians.
They demanded that the Christians give up all they had for universal sacrifice or they would
face execution. Diocletian retired after this and Maximus Daia took over rule. He wanted the
governors to force all individuals to oblige as a sacrifice to the gods. The Christians faced a brutal
attack on their beliefs once more. Around 311 AD, Galerius was struck with a terrible sickness and
decided to end the persecutions. He decided that once and for all, Christians would have their legal
recognition granted to them. Roman persecution happened not because the Romans were not
accepting of new people. It happened because Christianity imposed a threat on Roman s imperial
region. Many other religions made up roman culture during this time. Christians had a mission
mindset and wanted to win everyone over for Christ. Pagans believed that Christians participated in
magic and superstition. While we hear many reasons and events for Roman persecution, Lactantius,
who ruled from 240 320 AD, claimed that the Christians using superstition and magic during Pagan
ceremonies caused the beginning of the outbreaks and persecutions of Christians. Although the
Romans tried to end Christianity, I believe these series of events only showed the religious
strength and made it as powerful and widespread as it is

Dr. Faustus, written by Christopher, is the story of a man that represents the common human

His final damnation not only results from the immoral acts that he has committed throughout his

Organ Trafficking Is The Illegal Trade Of Human Organs For...
Organ Trafficking, also known as transplant tourism is the illegal trade of human organs for
transplantation. (UNOFC,2016). On the other hand, organ donation is the act of transplanting
healthy organs and tissues from one person to another (Medline Plus,2015). It is no secret that
organ supply cannot meet the rising demand, and because of that a global organ transplantblack
market has grown and flourished(Glaser,2005). Although there has been some effort to establish a
global organ transplant resolution by the World Health Assembly and many countries have
established a ban on organ trafficking. The implementation of these bans remain weak and
ineffective. There also tends to be loopholes in these laws that encourage corruption(Glaser,2005).
To reduce or eliminate organ trafficking, laws should be thoroughly explained strengthened to
discourage many different interpretations. To play its part in decreasing organ trafficking, the USA
should enact the presumed consent law where the opt in system is amended to the opt out system.
As of January 2016, there are currently 121,678 people waiting lifesaving organ transplant in the

With a shipping theft rate on the rise at approximately $30 billion a year, the logistics industry
was forced to find better ways of tracking. As with any security device, the criminals will find
ingenious methods to work around them. (Heyn, 2014) Global Positioning System tracking in
logistics has helped the industry tremendously by adding benefits such as improved supply chain
security, meeting the customer needs by knowing exactly where shipments are, reduction in lost
shipments, and aiding law enforcement with recovery of stolen goods. As technology has
improved, GPS units have shrunk in size and now can be covertly placed within shipments. As
criminals have learned to dismantle GPS systems, often a multiple units have been put on
shipments. (Heyn, 2014) This enables a GPS receiver to be placed for tracking of a single load
like a shipping container with multiple items linked to the container, or a single value item for
individual traceability. A simple solution for shipping and transportation companies has been found
with GPS. On average, a shipment can be protected and real time traceability provided at just five

Walgreen Company Case Study
Based on the tables above, the company consisting of the shortest cash to cash cycle is Walgreen
Company. On the contrary, the longest cycle is contained by Rite Aid. Therefore, there is a
leaner operation in Walgreen compared to both CVS and Rite companies. When compared to the
two companies, Walgreen is less liquid. Due to the reduced period of cash to cash cycle, there is
more operating investment in disposal to be used in Walgreen when compared to CVS and Rite.
By considering cash to cash cycle, the best performing company is Walgreen, followed by CVS
and finally Rite Aid.
The highest return on assets from the tables above is 23.8%, which belongs to Rite Aid. CVS
follows with 6.25%, and lastly, Walgreen has 5.20%. Therefore, the most rewarding assets belong to
Rite since they achieve a higher return on investment compared to the other two companies. Out of
the three companies, Walgreen has assets with the lowest returns on investment. Basing return on

If CVS were to start operating on a lean philosophy, various processes would become faster, e.g.,
order to cash receipt process. This would, in turn, speed up activities such as invoicing process,
response to overdue bills and the billing errors would be minimized (Oliveira Fernandes, 2017).
Reduction in cycle time and error rates would avail more cash for paying suppliers as well as
redeployment of the business. Consequently, inventory levels would reduce while the turnover
would increase. A speeder cash collection would also be achieved with shorter cash to cash cycle.
Therefore, it would be better for CVS to operate

Why Is Socrates Wrong
Socrates is known as the father of Western philosophy . In his teachings, he encouraged people to
question life and not listen to what they were told. He inspired people to search for answers, and
reject popular beliefs. As a result, Socrates was brought to trial by the dikasts (male jurors) on two
charges. Socrateshad three premises that all led to the conclusion of him not being innocent and the
charges being false.
First, Socrates defended himself against the charge of corrupting the youth in Athens. Socrates
explained that he would be also be harming himself if he was intentionally corrupting the youth.
Socrates was surrounding himself with people who would follow his beliefs, not people he was
trying to corrupt. In the bible it says, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His father was Sophroniscus who was a stone mason. Socrates learned from his father while
receiving a basic Greek education. After working for his father for a few years he pursued
philosophy. Socrates s married Xanthippe and they had three sons together. Socrates cared more
about the youth of Athens s than his own sons. This shows that Socrates was not devoted to his
family, but cared about his teachings. This also proves that Socrates was not committing a crime,
but doing what he felt was his calling.
It is impossible to claim that Socrates is guilty of the crimes he was charged with. Socrates did
not act intentionally. He thought he was doing what he was called to do and felt he was inspiring
people to think in a new way. His teachings go against the norm which many people did not agree
with.
Socrates accepted his punishment of a death sentence (drinking hemlock) since he knew he died a
hero. He showed no remorse for his actions, but instead mocked the jurors after he was sentenced.
This shows that Socrates knew his punishment was a joke since he committed no crime. Socrates
believed, even before he died that he did the right thing by speaking out against the authority. Plato
said, Such was the end of our friend, a man, I think, who was the wisest and justest, and the best

Paper towels were invented by a school teacher in 1907. She felt the germs were being spread by the

Currently paper towels are used for lots of different things. Some examples are drying hands,
wiping tables or desks, cleaning the windows, cleaning the bathrooms etc.

The Rise of the Nation State
1. The growth of the nation state, first in Western Europe and then elsewhere, has long been
viewed as the key political development of this era [i.e. the sixteenth century]. (Merry E. Wiesner
Hanks) Discuss with reference to at least two of the following: England, France, Spain.
This essay examines how the growth of the nation state was a key political development during
this period. It was a hugely important process and a stepping stone towards the systems we have in
place today. Although many of the aspects of state building which will be addressed in this essay
were already taking place before the sixteenth century, it is during this era that they truly develop

As a result, Henry VIII broke away from the church in Rome and by 1533; Archbishop of
Canterbury had power to annul marriage. This was followed by the Act of Supremacy (1934)
which made Henry, Supreme Head of the Church of England. This is another example of the
growth in power of the state as Henry transferred power from Rome to his own state. This example
in England shows just how key a development the growth of the state was.
Further evidence of state building and its importance during this era was also visible in Spain. It was
united as a nation during this period using methods of state building like those in England. Firstly, it
was unified through marriage. Isabella, the heiress of Castile, married Prince Ferdinand of Aragon,
thus uniting two of the main parts of Spain. This growth was further enhanced when Ferdinand and
Isabella then invaded Granada in the South, enhancing their own state. This, along with the
marriage of their children to various nobles across Europe, meant that Spain had grown into a
major power with influence all over Europe. This shows just how key the development of the nation
state was. The monarchs continued to strengthen their power by undermining the power of the
upper nobles. They reorganized the main royal council, making it larger, stronger, and more
professional, and filling it with lower level nobility and educated non nobles...members and officials
appointed by the monarch, not inherited by virtue of a noble

The Stock Exchange Is The First Modern Day Trading Exchange
The Amsterdam Stock Exchange is the first modern day trading exchange that allowed for the
buying and selling of securities of the East India Company. The exchange was influenced by prior
inventions such as brokering of debt and bond purchasing. In the 1300s, Venice merchants bought
debt from citizens, companies, and the government and traded pools of these debt issues to
consumers. The merchants would bring a booklet of debts for sale and the consumer would then
buy what they wanted. The consumers would either capitalize on high interest payments or lose
their money due to a particular entity not being able to pay their debts. In the 1500s, Belgium
opened the first bond exchange that was exclusively traded only bonds and note... Show more

Throughout the first century of the exchange being in existence, the company as well as the
commodities it traded had experience extreme volatility within the marketplace. Information and
speculation took responsibility for much of the unstable behavior resulting in a huge boom in the
1630s and the crises that took place in the 1670s and 1680s. The Amsterdam Stock Exchange
experienced a boom and bust cycle due to overconfident investors in the marketplace.
The First Boom (1633 1643)
When the market first opened for business, 1143 investors had received stock in the VOC
(Petram, 17). Very light trading occurred over the next thirty years within the secondary market.
However, due to the popularity of the trading arena the secondary market exploded, causing
hundreds of share transfers between different investors. Investors learned that they could make
more of a profit through selling shares regularly (market making) instead of holding on to them
for a few years. After the spike of the share price had occurred in 1633, many novice investors
were looking for a way to sell their shares. Experienced merchants would meet with these
investors and buy their stock for a little less than the asking price. From there, they would sell
those same shares as soon as the same day and charge above the market price. The

The inclusion on the Act of the definition prevents such an interpretation, due to the fact that it is
only a person s status as a sex worker that is protected. There are four attributes that involve
activity , namely breastfeeding , political activity , trade union activity and religious activity .9 The
Court compared the definition of lawful sexual activity with these four, and found that only
religious activity is defined in the Act. Such a definition implies that religious activity has
categories of activity or non activity, whereas lawful sexual activity has no such definition and is
defined only in the form of status . Hence, it may be concluded that the attribute cannot be extended
beyond status as a lawfully employed sex worker 10 to include the category of activity the engaging
in prostitution on the premises. Thus the Appeal Tribunal erred in this regard.
In applying the test in section 10(1)11 one must identify the characteristics relevant in the
comparator. The court applied Purvis,12 and state that circumstances that are the same or not
materially different 13 include all of the objective features which surround the actual or intended

The Pros And Cons Of Ferrets
My ferrets dook, do the war dance, and skitter between my feet, and make my husband, kids, and

the whole lot of us prefer ferrets to cats. Ferrets are very different from cats and dogs,
however.Their behavior, smell, motivations, and shape are all different from cats and dogs. They
are classified as exotic pets, and it is important that you consider the pros and cons of ferret

The differences between ferrets and other pets create the pros and cons of having a pet ferret
Intelligence: I hesitate to say that cats and dogs are smarter than ferrets, but I readily
acknowledge that ferrets have a significantly different kind of intelligence. Ferrets are pretty
good problem solvers. As an example, for Christmas one year, I put an apple in a stocking for
my ferret. (The ferret liked to steal apples and hide them. He didn t actually eat them.) The apple
was just a tad smaller in diameter as the stocking. Ernie put his head in the stocking, grabbed the

3d Printing History
Its One thing to 3D print something as advanced and cutting edge as a Jet engine motor, but it is
another to fuel it up, take it to the runway and push the start button. This is the stride GE
aviation achieved when it fired up the motor of a simple Jet engine, made completely of in

engines. GE Aviation is a world leading provider of jet and turboprop engines, components and
integrated systems for commercial, military, business and general aviation aircraft propulsion
applications. GE Aviation has a global service network to support these offerings. 3D printing or
additive manufacturing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital

process the desired object is created by laying down successive layers of material (usually molten

Penetration Pricing This is a marketing strategy used by firms to attract customers to a new
product or service. Penetration pricing is the practice of offering a low price for a new product
or service during its initial offering in order to attract customers away from competitors. The
reasoning behind this marketing strategy is that customers will buy and become aware of the new
product due to its lower price in the marketplace relative to rivals. It can often increase both market
share and sales volume. Additionally, the high sales volume can also lead to lower production costs
and higher inventory turnover, both of which are positive for any firm... Show more content on

Milgram Obedience Experiment Essay

Summary Of John Steinbeck s East Of Eden
In John Steinbeck s novel, East of Eden, one sees how past events such as the hostile interactions
between brothers, Adam and Charles, effects the attributes of future characters such as Cal. These
proceedings mold and form Cal s character, influencing not only his actions, but also his resonating
self condemnation at the end of the novel. Without these former occurrences, the reader would be
otherwise blind to the curse of the brothers as seen through the parable of Cain and Abeland to the
overriding theme of good versus evil presented not only in the brother s relationship but also in the
scenery of the Salinas Valley.
Furthermore, from the very beginning of the novel, it is obvious, that there was always a
favorite brother. In Adam s childhood, he persisted to be the favorite child of Cyrus Trask.
Good hearted and trusting of others, unlike his stolid and unemotional brother, Charles, Adam
got a seemingly innocent gift for his father s birthday, a pup, a gift that would service his father
until the day he died. This personalistic gift unlike Charles materialistic gift of a knife, for which
Cyrus Trask never used or admired, serves to be the wedge between the two and the ultimate
reasoning behind the various beatings Adam received as a child. This past occurrence
unfortunately continues to the present and forms Cal s character, a jealous son looking to gain
his father s love, a heart already stolen by Aron, a similar personality to that of his youthful father.
However, although apparent as Adam s favorite might be, it is Cal s decision on how to cope with
this obvious choice. Likewise, to envious Charles, who acted only out of violence, Cal acts out of
anger, bringing his only brother to the place that would hurt him the most, his mother s
whorehouse. This reoccurring theme of good versus evil guides Cal future decisions in terms of
being the person he wants to be and refuting the overwhelming curse of brothers.
Moreover, just as Cal and Aron relate to their father and his brother, Charles, they also fall under
a biblical or brotherhood curse . The story of Cain and Abel depicts two brothers, one who s
fueled by jealousy (Cain), kills his brother over the favoritism God had on the two gifts presented

Increasing Government Budgeting In Canada
The federal budget of Canada is constantly evolving to accommodate the ever changing issues of
society. Building a budget for an individual can be tricky, but when building a budget for an entire
country it can be detrimental to some citizens. Making cuts in one area can make huge impacts
whether positively or negatively to a group of people. I think increasing governmentspending in the
child care program would help almost all citizens of the country in one way or another. Increasing
the child taxbenefit will assist families to move out of poverty and allow for children to grow up in
nourishing environments. Eliminating the fossil fuel subsidies will help the country move towards
a greener future as well as adding revenue to the budget. Lastly, by increasing the corporation tax,...

Wealth distribution from more profitable corporations will make a positive impact on struggling
families and citizens of the country which will in turn assist the economy.
I proposed for the government to add the $10 a day childcare to the expenditures. Having
affordable child care is an immeasurable asset to the entire country. More parents will be able to
return to their careers which they have been trained to do; therefore, more skilled workers will
be in the workforce. An increase in household income will likely increase the spending in the
economy due to families having more financial freedom. Stress levels of families should decrease
with more financial flexibility which should increase happiness among citizens. Also, it is
possible for a decrease in the use of Employment Insurance for stress/medical leaves. Extra funding
towards childcare facilities will increase the demand for more facilities therefore, creating jobs and
new facilities to open. Having more

Economic Impact Of Natural Disasters Essay
ECONOMIC IMPACTS OF NATURAL DISASTERS
ABSTRACT:
Disasters of both natural and technological origin have a considerable impact on communities. The
effects of disasters in India are significantly reduced by well established counter disaster
arrangements at all three levels of government. These arrangements comprise comprehensive plans
of prevention, preparedness, response and recovery and in more recent times, of mitigation. The
economic effects of disasters can be devastating and widespread. When disasters strike houses,
businesses and community infrastructure get damaged or destroyed and people s livelihoods are
temporarily and sometimes permanently disrupted. Physical damage is the most visible economic
impact of disasters. Major natural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also important to recognise that communities are diverse. In some cases, disaster affected
communities recover and prosper, in others the adverse economic impact has a domino effect that
spreads throughout the community. What makes some communities recover and prosper and
others decline in the aftermath of a disaster? What are key characteristics of disaster resistant
communities? These are important questions and are critical to understanding the economic
recovery process. The principles and strategies identified later in this report provide a starting
point for considering these questions. The economic consequences of disasters can be classified
in a variety of ways. No single framework will cover and prescribe every possible impact a
disaster might have. Each disaster has unique characteristics and consequently in any attempt to
classify these impacts there will always be impacts that do not fit neatly within the classification.
Nevertheless a classification framework is a useful guide or tool we can use to tackle these issues.
Almost all impacts of disasters have an economic dimension, even if this economic effect cannot
be measured. Economic impacts are typically divided into two categories: tangible (those impacts
we can assign a dollar value to) and intangible (impacts which are not easily expressed in

Head Coach Case Analysis Essay
1.Based on the preceding description, the key personality traits that the head coach possesses is
dominance and affiliation. The head coach displays dominance by the way she demonstrates her
power over the assistant coach and how she acts during disagreements. The head coach is the type
of person in a conversation to speak over everyone to get her point across while also being
assertive in her responses. Her assertiveness could come off to others as proud and authoritative.

important to the present day in which several prisoners at Guantanamo still grieve in jail without

The 1990s is a decade full of change for the better, but also the worse. There are many events that

these ten years, Americans experienced things never before thought possible. In this time people
see the end of a war, the beginning of a war, a huge advancement in technology, and the changing
in the morals for the country. The American people had two different presidents in the 1990s, these
two men changed America both in positive ways and negative ways. The culture during the 90s

Oscar Wilde Symbols: Lady Windermere s Fan and Earnests Handbag
In the plays Lady Windermere s Fan and The Importance of Being Earnest Oscar Wilde uses
simple household items as symbols of complex themes and major plot points throughout his plays.
Lady Windermere s Fan represents her trust and the handbag Jack was found in is a symbol of
family and lineage.
The fan in the play Lady Windermere s Fan is a symbol of Lady Windermere s trust. It was first
given to her by her husband, who she trusted very much at the time. When the Duchess of
Berwick lead her to believe that her husband was cheating on her and sending a woman by the
name Mrs. Margret Erlynne money, she confronted her husband. When confronting him he asks
her to invite her to the birthday ball she was throwing that evening. The fan is brought into the
scene as Lady Windermere threatens to hit Mrs. Erlynne with her lovely new fan if she dared to
step foot into the ball. Yes, you gave me this fan to day; it was your birthday present. If that
woman crosses my threshold, I shall strike her across the face with it. (Wilde, 20) This represents
how little she thinks of Mrs. Erlynne and that she does not trust her. The next we see the fan is

The Importance Of Cultural Diversity
Cultural Diversity is the existence of a variety of cultural or ethnic groups within a society. There
are many processes of Walt s adaptation to cultural diversity. First, there is the obvious discord
between Walt and the young Father of the church. This situation presents cultural differences of
identity; specifically, age and religion. This eventually becomes a hindrance in Walt and his Father
Janovich s perception of each other. Walt does not think Father Janovich is credible due to his age
and his religious cultureof Catholicism, therefore, his dedication to his deceased wife is not
anchored by any firm foundation. Father Janovich wants to keep the promises he made to Walt s
late wife Dorothy, but Walt is not convinced. This difference in cultural identity leads Walt to make
numerous offensive remarks to Father Janovich, but young Janovich s faith allows him to exercise
patience and longsuffering with Walt. Another aspect of Walt s adaptation to cultural diversity is
the language barriers. Walt s culture of offensive language creates a cultural divide within his own
family. Though he and his family speak the same language, their inability to communicate inter
culturally creates dysfunction, as shown in the scene Unhappy Birthday. Walt s oldest son and his
wife presents birthday gifts for Walt, as they believe these are thoughtful and will make Walt s life
easier. Entirely out of touch with Walt s goals and values, their gifts and suggestions are dismissed,

The Two Main Hormone Drugs
What are the two main hormone drugs?
The two mainstream hormone drugs are progesterone and norgestrel. Progesterone and norgestrel
are drugs used to control the female hormones to aid in preventing pregnancy. Progesterone is a
steroid hormone released by the corpus luteum, which is a hormone secreting structure that
develops in an ovary after an ovum has been discharged but degenerates after a few days unless
pregnancy has begun, that stimulates the uterus to prepare for pregnancy. Hormones are chemical
messengers that are secreted directly into the blood, which carries them to organs and tissues of the
body to exert their functions. Progesterone works by traveling in the blood to tissues where there
are progesterone receptors. Progesterone molecules attach to the receptors and commence their
actions in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many types of birth control including condoms, IUDs, birth control pills, vasectomy,
etc. Condoms are one of the most popular forms of birth control. They come in many shapes and
sizes, with and without lube. They slip over the penis to prevent pregnancy and lower the risk of
STIs by keeping sperm inside of the condom and not in your vagina. An IUD (intrauterine
device) is a small t shaped device that is inserted in your uterus by your doctor. It is plastic and
wrapped in copper or contains hormones. There is a plastic string tied to the of the IUD that
hangs down from the cervix into the vagina. You can check that the IUD is in place by feeling
for this string. The string is also used by your doctor to remove the IUD. There are two types of
IUDs, hormonal and copper IUD. The hormonal IUD prevents fertilization by damaging or killing
the sperm and making the mucus in the cervix big and gooey. It keeps the lining of the uterus
from growing very thick. That makes the lining a very poor place for a fertilized egg to implant
and grown. The hormones in this IUD stops the cramping and

Participant Observation Methods
I found that the participant observation method was the most helpful and easiest method to use. I
was able to talk with the firemen about their experiences and see how they interacted. I also worked
out with them and sat around talking with them. This method allowed me to get information about
their interactions because I could easily observe them talking amongst themselves and to me. One
of the downsides of this method was that I could not record information as I was observing. Writing
down what they were saying and what was going on would seem rude and would be hard to do. I
had to wait until leaving the firehouse before recording what happened. This led to more vague
information because of forgetting things. The phenomenological method

study compare transport planning, policy implementation of different countries across the globe. It
was found that countries already heavily developed in vehicular mode (private vehicle) is having
hard time shifting modal preference to sustainable urban transport systems (MRT, BRT, NMV); as
this requires huge initial capital investment, enthusiastic public participation political statesmanship
sagacity willingness to face hostile public reaction to change over (ie; Singapore modal shift from
vehicular to public transport) (MoT, Singapore website, 2014). Countries like USA also faces
huge public opposition (perception of curtailment of freedom) legal barrier (4th amendment, US
constitution), (Richard, 2009). USA (San Francisco, Portland, New York, and Milwaukee) has
deconstructed freeways (Norquist, 2000); France (Paris) has converted Georges Pompidou
Expressway into Paris Plage (Paris Beach) (Charles Siege, 2007) and South Korea (Seoul) has
removed Cheonggye freeway to restore Cheonggyecheon river (Natalie, 2013). Achieving the
balance between progress and impact is a delicate dance choreographed through sustainable
development planning, policy and pragmatic implementation. How the described countries are

The Depression Of Manic Depression
For my research paper, I decided to look into Manic Depression. I have chosen to write about this
topic because I have been personally dealing with this disorder since about eight years old.
Manic Depression is usually referred to as Bipolar Disorder, but when I tell someone that I am
Bipolar, they just think that it means I get angry easily. People seem to take me more seriously
when I refer to it as Manic Depression. I used to have to take a wide variety of medications and
go to counseling when I was younger because I was having struggles with suicidal urges.
Recently it has gotten significantly worse since the death of my father due to a stroke in 2012.
This is a very serious topic for me because it has made and will continue to make my life more
difficult than it needs to be. Manic Depression first started to get looked into in Greece during the
1st century by Aretaeus of Cappadocia. The research he did was not acknowledged for many
centuries after. The terms manic and depressive come from the ancient Greek terms mania and
melancholia. The ancient Greeks and Romans learned that lithium could be used to treat the
manically depressed people by bathing with lithium salt. In this era, it was very common for the
deeply religious dogma of the time to execute people that suffered from bipolar disorder or any
other mental disorders. During the 17th century, a book named The Anatomy of Melancholy was
written by Robert Burton. The book covered different forms of treatment for

Discrimination In Workplace Discrimination
The percentage of whites with obesity are much lower than the other ethnicities because white
families tend to eat healthier due to a higher income rate. Studies show that in low income
neighborhoods contain far less grocery stores and an abundant amount fast food restaurants.
This is only half of the problem, even if there are grocery stores available, an income large
enough to afford real healthy food, whilst a place to live, is not easily come by in certain
regions. Statistics show that the percentage of Whites living below poverty line is a mere 9%
while Latinos (20%) and blacks (22%) show numbers over twice the amount. What could be
causing such a large Wage Gap? In 2010, White Americans held 88% of the wealth and only
64% of the population where as Black Americans were 2.7% of the wealth and 13% of the
population. In 2003 the National Bureau of Economic Research found that Job Applicants with
White sounding names got one callback for every ten resumes while those with African American
sounding names got one callback for every fifteen resumes sent out. Lack of call backs on
resumes for Ethnic Names all the way to Less pay for the Equal work are only two reasons why the
Black American community is showing such alarming obesity rates. Getting rid of Workplace
discriminationis the First step to solving the large wage gap in the United States.
Black females have the highest Obesity rate out of not only the Black Community but also within
the Female community as well. I

The Public Sphere By Nancy Fraser
Nancy Fraser s article speaks as both critical analysis and a modern day interpretation JГјrgen
Habermas concept of the public sphere. Through the application of a revisionist historical lens,
Fraser both highlights the limits of the original concept of a single public sphere, and introduces
interpretations of it as applied to modern day social issues. Through these critiques, Fraser is
successful in forwarding the theory of the public sphereas an indispensible element to the
application of critical theory. Drawing on examples in late capitalist societies, Fraser illustrates an
alternate proposal of co existing multiple public spheres as a more accurate representation of this
theory in practice.
Fraser informs the reader that Habermas concept of the public sphere served as a regulating
force in the promotion of both democracy, and as a guideline for separation between public and
private areas. This sphere was comprised of politically minded and motivated individuals existing
outside of the realms of government, business and association; with a mandate for debate of
matters of public or common interest; excluding those interests deemed private. Its intention was
to serve as arbitrators between the public and the state. (58) Critics and revisionist historians
however state Habermas account was an idealized version unrepresentative of the public it
claimed to speak for. Fraser contends the logic of the single public sphere s guiding principles,
going so far as suggesting

This speech is entitled A Model of Christian Charity, and was designed to instruct the Puritans on how to behave in this New World . Winthrop utilizes many rhetorical devices in this speech to enhance its meaning. Some of these devices include metaphors, question and answer segments, and juxtaposition. Winthrop uses these rhetorical devices for a variety of reasons, either to further prove a point or bring more attention to a particular idea. • 3. Icarus Literary Devices Greek mythology can be transformed to fit different circumstances in modern society. In his poem, Icarus, Edward Field utilizes a myriad of different literary devices and techniques to adapt this age old myth to a more contemporary setting. Field illustrates his interpretation of the myth in a modern context through the use of symbols, contemporary connections to society, and strong diction. Also, he focuses on other views of the fall of Icarus instead of only the fall itself. Throughout his poem, these devices help to communicate his point of view on the myth to a modern day audience. Symbolism is a key feature that aids in providing a deeper meaning to a piece. In the myth, Icarus melted his wings by flying too close to the sun. In the poem, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether in the hospital or in the community there is always an element of liability. In this particular discussion I will address nursing negligence, perfection and standard of care, the four elements of negligenceand the importance of documentation with regards to nursing negligence. The Nursing profession is a broadly debatable topic. In Ireland in particular the standard of nurses is generally good but nurses at the end of the day are only human and naturally make mistakes. It is important to know that perfection in nursing is neither expected nor possible. However excellence in the standard of care for a patient is. Perfection cannot be achieved. Nurses are not machines. At the end of the day nurses can only do what they believe is best for the patient and if failure is an outcome then they cannot be held accountable. The patient signs a consent form with the knowledge that failure can always be expected regarding treatments. However it is the nurse s duty to respond correctly to failures as a duty of care and carry out a high standard of care hoping for the best possible outcome. Standard of care itself is more defined. It is derived from organizational policies, procedures and those from regulatory bodies. Policies and procedures are in place to define the minimum of staff members. They are merely guidelines and staff members are encouraged to exceed the guidelines set out. It is the staff s responsibility to follow these guidelines when in practice. Let s suppose that a woman could make one skirt a day before the invention and after the change in technology she could make 50. The good part of the lowell mill girls was that it could make hundreds a day. But the bad part of technology was that the workers did not have a job and the workers would not have enough money to buy food for their family. Evaluation of the two alternatives: As regards the horizontal expansion, there are several points that must be taken into account as they demonstrate that this option will be the correct one: * This expansion will grow the company market share because they have a cost advantage. * For a company is better and easier to grow in a sector that they are presently functioning. * The market seems to be moving in favor. * As a result of a horizontal expansion the company can achieve economies of scale and reduce significantly their costs. * Pulp is AraucoВґs main industrial activity, generating up 52% of EBITDA * Pulp production is the core competency of Arauco. * Becoming the market leader will allow them to control supply and demand of the market of pulp. * They have young forests. * Arauco is one of the worldВґs premier forestry enterprises ... Tolkien amp;#8217;s book The Fellowship of the Ring, it is almost like a medieval contest between the two with many of the similarities coming from the customs of the Middle Ages. A look at the make up of the groups involved, the moral code, the protagonist, the antagonist, the use of supernatural elements and the knightly quest involved in each book shows how alike they are but yet different. • 12. Modern Olympic Games Boycotts From the beginning of the modern Olympic Games in 1896 the games have been the essence of how sports can directly affect politics. The Olympic Games are arguably the most popular multi sporting event in the world. As of 2010, twenty three Nations and thirty nine separate cities have hosted the Olympics since its revival in 1896 (Saum 8). The 1980 and 1984 Olympic Gameshas been labeled as a case study , examining the relationship between sports and politics, and how they affect each other. Some argue that the United Statespurposely boycotted the 1980 Olympics as a low risked protest against the Soviet Unions invasion into Afghanistan, and also displaying the success of both capitalism and socialism. At the end of the 1984 Olympic Games the United States came out victorious with a more economically successful Olympic Games then the Soviet Union s, who held the 1980 Olympic Games. Thus, concluding the triumph of Capitalism over socialism. In The Political Olympics: Moscow, Afghanistan, and the 1980 U.S. Boycott, Derick Hulme states that The peripheral relationship of sport to international relations allows leaders to turn to it, aware that its use will be relatively low risk, especially as evaluated against its potential benefits (Hulme 14). Doctrine There is a great falsehood that is perpetuated by the modern church, and it is one that threatens the very mission assigned to every believer in Matthew 28:18 20. Before one can address this falsehood, one must understand the duty of God s people in this life. It is the believer s task to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them as God ordained, and teaching them how to obey the teachings of Jesus. What then are the teachings of Jesus? As believers, we hold as doctrine that God the Father, along with the Holy Spirit and the Son created all that is. He gave Man, God s special creation made in His own image, dominion over the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This heresy is the idea that there is a spiritual reward for depriving the physical body of comfort or pleasure. The Catholics who endured the outbreaks of bubonic plague in the Middle Ages sometimes resorted to self flagellation, a practice of whipping or beating one s self in order to gain favor with God (and presumably avoid plague). Catholics have long practiced similar traditions, with some devout Catholics praying on particularly uncomfortable prayer mats or refusing red meat on certain days. Some Catholic clergy go so far as to wear burlap undergarments, so as to suffer with Christ and perhaps gain favor with God. This heretical doctrine declares the atonement by Christ to be an incomplete one, and contradicts His final words, the confirmation that It is finished (John 19:30b). The particular incarnation of this heresy that pervades even the evangelical churches of today comes to light in those churches condemnation of various things, including drugs and alcohol. Now, as described above, all things created by God in the beginning were good. The use of the earth s resources was given to Man, and with it responsibility. The scriptures indicate that alcohol can be a deceiver. Immoderate use of alcohol leads to drunkenness, which the scriptures indeed condemn (Galatians 5:19 21). However, alcohol was never forbidden to the Hebrews, and Jesus himself made it at the wedding in Cana (John 2). It seems clear that the alcohol itself is not what the scriptures ... The persecutions took place in the first half century after the crucifixion. At this point in time, the Roman government did not take action against Christians. They always looked at Christianityas an act of Judaism. Since they felt that it was in the same category as Judaism, they felt it was only fair for Christians to have the same religious privileges that the others had. He tolerated the churches for a little while, until he could not stand it any longer. He then waged what would be the final great persecution. The first stage of his war on Christians was for the Christian churches to be destroyed and for their holy text to be burned. Christians no longer had the rights and freedoms that the laws once gave them. Diocletian then ordered for all clergy members to face incarceration. Diocletian and Galerius teamed together to make things even worse for Christians. They demanded that the Christians give up all they had for universal sacrifice or they would face execution. Diocletian retired after this and Maximus Daia took over rule. He wanted the governors to force all individuals to oblige as a sacrifice to the gods. The Christians faced a brutal attack on their beliefs once more. Around 311 AD, Galerius was struck with a terrible sickness and decided to end the persecutions. He decided that once and for all, Christians would have their legal recognition granted to them. Roman persecution happened not because the Romans were not accepting of new people. It happened because Christianity imposed a threat on Roman s imperial region. Many other religions made up roman culture during this time. Christians had a mission mindset and wanted to win everyone over for Christ. Pagans believed that Christians participated in magic and superstition. While we hear many reasons and events for Roman persecution, Lactantius, who ruled from 240 320 AD, claimed that the Christians using superstition and magic during Pagan ceremonies caused the beginning of the outbreaks and persecutions of Christians. To reduce or eliminate organ trafficking, laws should be thoroughly explained strengthened to discourage many different interpretations. To play its part in decreasing organ trafficking, the USA should enact the presumed consent law where the opt in system is amended to the opt out system. It is impossible to claim that Socrates is guilty of the crimes he was charged with. Socrates did not act intentionally. He thought he was doing what he was called to do and felt he was inspiring people to think in a new way. His teachings go against the norm which many people did not agree with. Socrates accepted his punishment of a death sentence (drinking hemlock) since he knew he died a hero. He showed no remorse for his actions, but instead mocked the jurors after he was sentenced. This shows that Socrates knew his punishment was a joke since he committed no crime. Socrates believed, even before he died that he did the right thing by speaking out against the authority. This was followed by the Act of Supremacy (1934) which made Henry, Supreme Head of the Church of England. This is another example of the growth in power of the state as Henry transferred power from Rome to his own state. This example in England shows just how key a development the growth of the state was. Further evidence of state building and its importance during this era was also visible in Spain. It was united as a nation during this period using methods of state building like those in England. Firstly, it was unified through marriage. Isabella, the heiress of Castile, married Prince Ferdinand of Aragon, thus uniting two of the main parts of Spain. This growth was further enhanced when Ferdinand and Isabella then invaded Granada in the South, enhancing their own state. After the spike of the share price had occurred in 1633, many novice investors were looking for a way to sell their shares. The inclusion on the Act of the definition prevents such an interpretation, due to the fact that it is only a person s status as a sex worker that is protected. There are four attributes that involve activity , namely breastfeeding , political activity , trade union activity and religious activity .9 The Court compared the definition of lawful sexual activity with these four, and found that only religious activity is defined in the Act. Such a definition implies that religious activity has categories of activity or non activity, whereas lawful sexual activity has no such definition and is defined only in the form of status . Hence, it may be concluded that the attribute cannot be extended beyond status as a lawfully employed sex worker 10 to include the category of activity the engaging in prostitution on the premises. • 38. Summary Of John Steinbeck s East Of Eden In John Steinbeck s novel, East of Eden, one sees how past events such as the hostile interactions between brothers, Adam and Charles, effects the attributes of future characters such as Cal. These proceedings mold and form Cal s character, influencing not only his actions, but also his resonating self condemnation at the end of the novel. Without these former occurrences, the reader would be otherwise blind to the curse of the brothers as seen through the parable of Cain and Abeland to the overriding theme of good versus evil presented not only in the brother s relationship but also in the scenery of the Salinas Valley. Furthermore, from the very beginning of the novel, it is obvious, that there was always a favorite brother. In Adam s childhood, he persisted to be the favorite child of Cyrus Trask. Good hearted and trusting of others, unlike his stolid and unemotional brother, Charles, Adam got a seemingly innocent gift for his father s birthday, a pup, a gift that would service his father until the day he died. This personalistic gift unlike Charles materialistic gift of a knife, for which Cyrus Trask never used or admired, serves to be the wedge between the two and the ultimate reasoning behind the various beatings Adam received as a child. This past occurrence unfortunately continues to the present and forms Cal s character, a jealous son looking to gain his father s love, a heart already stolen by Aron, a similar personality to that of his youthful father. However, although apparent as Adam s favorite might be, it is Cal s decision on how to cope with this obvious choice. Likewise, to envious Charles, who acted only out of violence, Cal acts out of anger, bringing his only brother to the place that would hurt him the most, his mother s whorehouse. This reoccurring theme of good versus evil guides Cal future decisions in terms of being the person he wants to be and refuting the overwhelming curse of brothers. Moreover, just as Cal and Aron relate to their father and his brother, Charles, they also fall under a biblical or brotherhood curse . Building a budget for an individual can be tricky, but when building a budget for an entire country it can be detrimental to some citizens. I think increasing governmentspending in the child care program would help almost all citizens of the country in one way or another. The effects of disasters in India are significantly reduced by well established counter disaster arrangements at all three levels of government. These arrangements comprise comprehensive plans of prevention, preparedness, response and recovery and in more recent times, of mitigation. In some cases, disaster affected communities recover and prosper, in others the adverse economic impact has a domino effect that spreads throughout the community. What makes some communities recover and prosper and others decline in the aftermath of a disaster? What are key characteristics of disaster resistant communities? These are important questions and are critical to understanding the economic recovery process. The principles and strategies identified later in this report provide a starting point for considering these questions. The economic consequences of disasters can be classified in a variety of ways. No single framework will cover and prescribe every possible impact a disaster might have. Each disaster has unique characteristics and consequently in any attempt to classify these impacts there will always be impacts that do not fit neatly within the classification. Nevertheless a classification framework is a useful guide or tool we can use to tackle these issues. Almost all impacts of disasters have an economic dimension, even if this economic effect cannot be measured. Economic impacts are typically divided into two categories: tangible (those impacts we can assign a dollar value to) and intangible (impacts which are not easily expressed in ... I have chosen to write about this topic because I have been personally dealing with this disorder since about eight years old. Manic Depression is usually referred to as Bipolar Disorder, but when I tell someone that I am Bipolar, they just think that it means I get angry easily. People seem to take me more seriously when I refer to it as Manic Depression. I used to have to take a wide variety of medications and go to counseling when I was younger because I was having struggles with suicidal urges. Recently it has gotten significantly worse since the death of my father due to a stroke in 2012. This is a very serious topic for me because it has made and will continue to make my life more difficult than it needs to be. Manic Depression first started to get looked into in Greece during the 1st century by Aretaeus of Cappadocia. The research he did was not acknowledged for many centuries after. The terms manic and depressive come from the ancient Greek terms mania and melancholia. The ancient Greeks and Romans learned that lithium could be used to treat the manically depressed people by bathing with lithium salt. • 54. The Public Sphere By Nancy Fraser Nancy Fraser s article speaks as both critical analysis and a modern day interpretation JГјrgen Habermas concept of the public sphere. Through the application of a revisionist historical lens, Fraser both highlights the limits of the original concept of a single public sphere, and introduces interpretations of it as applied to modern day social issues. Through these critiques, Fraser is successful in forwarding the theory of the public sphereas an indispensible element to the application of critical theory. Drawing on examples in late capitalist societies, Fraser illustrates an alternate proposal of co existing multiple public spheres as a more accurate representation of this theory in practice. Fraser informs the reader that Habermas concept of the public sphere served as a regulating force in the promotion of both democracy, and as a guideline for separation between public and private areas. This sphere was comprised of politically minded and motivated individuals existing outside of the realms of government, business and association; with a mandate for debate of matters of public or common interest; excluding those interests deemed private. Its intention was to serve as arbitrators between the public and the state.
