Front Line Supervisor Essay
The vast complexity of workplace laws causes front line supervisors to know of, or at least know how
to find, all kinds of pertinent law information. Applicable laws can originate from Acts, Amendments,
Commissions, court cases, and statues. The similarities among each law is the requirement for front
line supervisors to know which are applicable and how to search for them. According to Steingold in
The Employer s Legal Handbook, In doing legal research, there are several sources you may find
useful, broadly categorized as primary and secondary sources (345). Researchers need to be careful to
ensure their sources are credible. Front line supervisors who came about their position through years
of line service may lack the base knowledge to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the protection doesn t come with absolute simplicity. Keeping and providing adequate
documentation to support their stance can determine the outcome of legal battles. A specific example
involves the United States Department of Labor and the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA). Section 5 states, Each employer shall furnish to each of his employees
employment and a place of employment which are free of recognized hazards that are causing or are
likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees. Having pictures, standard operating
procedures, or statements present when reporting can influence management to respond more timely.
If employees aren t able to develop abatements through their front line supervisors and organization,
they may report using the anonymity of OSHA. However, employees must be swift with their decision
to report for specific matters. Per 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 1977 Section 11(c)(2),
employees have within 30 days of the violating event to report. However, ethical management would
prevent employees from having to go to this extent. Some cases of employee reporting provide
exposure to a hazard not identified by front line supervision. In abating such workplace reports
management takes a proactive approach in minimizing potential worker s compensation. Defined by
NIOSH, Worker s compensation systems were established to provide

Christopher Columbus Dbq
1.) There are a lot of reasons why Christopher Columbus was a great leader and in this journal it
shows many examples. For instance Christopher Columbus is very loyal to his king back in his
homeland has he always says he will return to his highness and tell his ability with all of his
discoveries. Also he is a hero because the islands he came across he let natives sail with him and he
gave them hope which he does through god and Christian belief, and he doesn t force them to anything
he gives natives gifts therefore earning their trust and then he gets a helping hand from them. He also
explains how people from differently lands believed him and his men to be Men s from the heavens
which explains their loyalty and helpfulness natives saw in Columbus. 2.) ... Show more content on

When in Columbus journal he states that items was given in return for the things the natives gave.
Also in his story he says he is a hero because he goes to each island and gives the king something
while also exploring the map. In Las Casa s it states that reason for killing and destroying such an
infinite number of souls is that the Christians have an ultimate aim, which is to acquire gold... .When
Columbus says some was killed to show the power. 3.) I feel there is many things in Kirkpatrick Sale
that are valid but one that sticks out is when he talks about the land of how it was humans thrust out of
an abundant land into a harsh and hostile world. It was a Paradise Found, the wonderful world they
inhabited, having ascended from some darker depths, and it was precious and holy and to be protected.

Persuasive Speech On Weight Loss Pills
What are the best weight loss pills? If you are overweight or obese you have definitely asked this
question many times. Whatever our excess weight can be, we always want to be slim. And the best
weight loss pills have been always sought after.
Let s think a little on this philosophic question and try to answer it based on what we know about this
weight loss aid we can t refuse of using...
We all know the easiest and safest way to live a slim and healthy life is to: consume healthy foods in a
balanced diet regime, exercise and stay physically active, and get a sufficient amount of rest each day.
Well, weight loss pills may offer a short cut, it might not always be the best route to take. If we make a

It s considered the best natural appetite suppressant that has not been researched thoroughly but
showed good efficacy.
Another type of weight loss pills is gaining more popularity due to more safe and healthy effect
comparing with others fat blockers. Among prescription drugs it is Xenical, blocking fat by affecting
lipase enzymes responsible for fat absorption. It helped many people lose weight along with good
dieting regime, but it s side effects include abdomen discomfort, diarrhea, and the inability to absorb a
lot of important fat soluble vitamins and other nutrients.
Alli is a lighter version of Xenical with the same side effects and many medical professionals refuse to
ally themselves with Alli as best weight loss pill because of moderate efficacy combined with many
side effects.
Among natural fat blockers chitosan is widespread ingredient. There are many pills based on chitosan
claiming fat blocking effect, but scientific researches proved weak fat blocking capacities of chitosan.
As fat blocker, acting somewhat like Xenical but binding fats directly in the stomach, Proactol now is
a leading weight loss pill. It acts safely and helps lose weight steadily and prevent weight gain if we

My Table Conflict
The struggle between staying within society s expectations and the desire to make a commitment to
one s art can be daunting. This dilemma has been questioned for ages. Sometimes society even
questions someone who doesn t quite fit into a norm they believe exists. These conflict or struggle is
addressed in Jane Campion s film, An Angel at My Table. The film is based on a trilogy of
autobiographies by Australian author, Janet Frame. Adapted originally for a three part mini series, the
film chronicles Janet s life from childhood to young adulthood. Throughout the film its director
highlights the contest for one person, with immense talent and insecurity, to conform to the social
norms of the 30 s, 40 s, and onward. The director s use of narrations, ... Show more content on

Janet throughout the film is notably placed in windows. In Mark Cousins book The Story of Film he
mentions Campion s way of making Frame look startled in the film. Campion and her
cinematographer, Stuart Dryburgh, used wide angle lenses to exaggerate spaces in the film (Cousins,
708). Her mother frames her face in the first train station scene in order to protect her from the scenes
of mental illness out her window. Framed by the window Janet is still contained (Gillet). She is
looking outside for what awaits. Her containment within that window can also be viewed as her
containment in her mind as far as the community sees it. A positive outlook is asserted in the scenes
where Janet is in Spain. In this shots she is sitting in the window while it is wrapped around her. She
smiles, alone in her freedom to be who she without restrictions from outer infringements. Finally, the
closing scene, the author is home and content to be within that window. Sue Gillet concurs; She
speaks the words she has found to write, comforting words (Gillet, 1). Janet Frame is no longer is is

Differences Between Seals And Walruses
In contrast to whales, seals and walruses have remained heavily furred marine mammals. There are
several differences that make the retention of fur an adaptive trait in seals and walruses. These
advantages can be divided into three categories; life aspects, evolutionary descent, diving differences.
The first among these are their life aspects. Seals and walruses spend much of their time in the water
foraging however; land is required for the birthing and rearing of their young. In addition to this seals
are one of the few species in which the female receives no help in raising their young. The female is
the sole provider of food for herself and the infant meaning she must leave the infant alone on the
surface while she hunts. Young seals remain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whales are descended from large hoofed predators called mesonychids in the Pakistan area. While
seals and walruses descended from a bear like ancestor, the ursoids. (Rybczynski, Dawson, and
Tedford 2009) In addition the carnivores and ungulates had long since separated before the convergent
evolution that lead to whales, seals and walruses to move back to the ocean. (Prothero 2014) The
predatory nature of carnivore that leads them to hunt their prey may also play a part in differentiating
these mammals. They hunt animals that may live in the sea or on land such as the penguin and must be
adapted as such to follow their prey from sea to land in order to catch it. During the evolution of these
animals hair was lost in the whales but retained in the seals and walruses another reason this may have
happened is because some seals and walruses eat the mussels, clams and other bivalves that live on the
ocean floor. Hair in the form of whiskers or vibrissae that is present in seals and walruses serves a
mechanoreception role. They assist in finding food such as mussels and clams on the ocean floor.
These vibrissae have a sensitive innervated sinus area that allows the vibrissae to be used as a sensory
organ rather than for thermoregulation as the rest of the body fur is used. It may be that the body fur
remains because of these vibrissae. If the seals and walruses were to begin losing the fur on their body
as insulation and to spend more time in the sea than they could also risk losing the vibrissae that
assists them in finding food below the ocean surface since it too is a type of hair. (Maderson

Rhetorical Analysis Of Dorothy Samuels Wrong On Gun Rights
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution entitles citizens the right to possess and
bear arms; which has continually been an important issue for decades. Gun control is not just one
concern, but rather many, within a common category. One may consider gun control a crime issue,
while to others it may be a rights issue. Inside each and every issue, there are particular people who
want more gun control legislation, and those who want less. Dorothy Samuels does a phenomenal job
of portraying her stand on gun control through the use of ethos, logos, and pathos, in her article,
Wrong on Gun Rights . Samuels utilizes the rhetorical strategies in order to persuade the audience into
agreeing with her views. Dorothy Samuels view on gun control is illustrated in a handful of ways in
the article Wrong on Gun Rights . Her first important point informs and educates her audience of the
hazards of courts permitting second amendment rights as well as revoking bans on guns. This point
was also used to mention and elaborate on lawsuits involving the misuse of guns, which were handled
by the courts. Another significant point Samuels made was that US citizens should be advised of the

A Brief Note On The Primary Function Of Exec
Lab 2
CSNB324
Muath Abdullah SN091649
Answer Q1:
Execv(): it is a prototype of exec family, v is added to indicate the type of argument which in this case
specified as a vector (array of character pointers). The primary function of exec () system call is to
execute a file or a program. This is done by creating a new process image from a regular, executable
file.
This file is either an interpreter script or an executable file object. It has the form execv(char *path,
char *argv[], char *envp[]). The path argument is the pathname of a file that contains the new program
to be executed. The argv array is a list of parameter strings, and the envp array is a list of environment
variable strings and values that should be used when the process begins executing the new programs.
When a process encounters the execve() system call, the next instruction it executes will be the one at
the entry point of the new executable file.
Execvp()
The created child process does not have to run the same program as the parent process does. The exec
type system calls allow a process to run any program files, which include a binary executable or a
shell script. On this page, we only discuss one such system call: execvp(). The execvp() system call
requires two arguments: 1. The first argument is a character string that contains the name of a file to
be executed.
2. The second argument is a pointer to an array of character strings. More precisely, its type is char
**, which is exactly identical to the

In Dubious Battle Essay
Revolution against Persecution
Today in the United States citizens are given rights to speak freely, worship as they wish, and pursue
life, liberty, and happiness. Unfortunately, most foreign nations do not grant their citizens these rights.
People in foreign nations live with little protection, financial insecurity, and are governed by callous
rules. Behind closed doors in private business in the United States, many workers face this tyranny as
well. This relentless dictatorship causes men to live in fear for their own lives. Men struggle to abide
by these strict and inhumane rulings. In most scenarios, man recognizes that there is no easy way out.
Consequentially, a rebellion remains to be the only option. Since before Christ, men ... Show more

Rather than being a welcoming presence, the boss already had an aggressive attitude toward the men.
One might attribute later rebellious behaviors by the workers to the malicious care the workers
received. When men do not have a strong support system in times of struggle, men are compelled to
rebel in hope of escaping brutality and finding comfort in their life. People facing oppression may be
living without specific freedoms and liberties, forced into imprisoned life, or face another hardship. In
these situations, people typically act eccentrically and make unjustified decisions. Officers confront
Dakin, a leader of the strike in In Dubious Battle, during one of the movements. Dakin challenges the
police, He lets out a howl like a coyote and starts for em. They shoot him in the leg, but that don t stop
him . . . he just went nuts . . . Dakin bit a cop on the hand (In Dubious Battle, 145). The dreadful living
conditions and state of life made Dakin, like many other men, go crazy. One misunderstanding led
Dakin to a senseless decision and revolt. In another occasion, George is faced with a decision in a
hostile situation. Lennie killed Curley s wife, and Curley is now out to torture and kill Lenny. In a split
second decision, George decides to kill Lennie and save Lenny from Curley s potential harm. Carlson

War Of Glory And Fame Essay
It has been said time and time again that men go to war for glory and fame, yet the First World War
began a little differently. This war began with an assassination that then led countries across the globe
to become involved in a revenge war. Each country that entered the war after Austria Hungary s initial
declaration on Serbia was tied to a treaty. These treaties then lead to each country turning to another
ally for more men, for more power and more weaponry. Then we see each country being able to go
after the neutral countries, and the neutral countries would side with whomever could give them the
best offer. With all this intelligence and military mindedness comes new technology and new weapons,
each country trying out do another. Each country was out for themselves. Germany hoping to gain
more power and trade ports like India, Russia wanting to take out Germany and Austria to have more
control over the Balkans, France in repelling Germany and settle and old score with taking land, and
Britain hoped to retain naval supremacy and keep its African colonies. Do to the global aspect of the
war and the huge numbers then brought in we saw nations and colonies crumbled and torn apart,
thousands of lives lost, for a war no one saw coming and that no one thought would have global reach.
I believe that because of all this The Great War should really be called The Great Treaty War, because
the treaties are truly what pulled countries on a global scale to enter the war. When we

Spearheading The Second Great Awakening
After the Revolutionary War ended, a rebellion against the church began during the 1730s, known as
the Great Awakening. This Awakening transformed the topography of the European Religious culture.
Americans wanted a religion that was compatible with their way of life. During the era of the
Revolution, the most substantial denominations were the Quakers, the Congregationalists, and the
Anglicans. After America s liberation from the tyranny of the British Crown and religious ideology of
predestination, they wanted to associated themselves with a religion that gave them more control over
their destination. Americans adopted the freedom of choice allowing them to accept or reject God s
salvation for themselves.

Betrayal In Mean Girls And The Play Julius Caesar
Lying and betrayal tie together the movie Mean Girls and the play Julius Caesar. In the movie, Cady
lied to her friend, Regina George, and betrayed her by sabotaging important things in her life, such as
her boyfriend, her body, and her friends. In the play, Brutus lied to and betrayed his best friend Caesar.
Brutus stabbed Caesar and killed him for Rome. The movie Mean Girls and the play Julius Caesar are
tied together by many differences, similarities, and important lessons.
One important difference found between the play and the movie is the time period. Caesar is the leader
of Rome with a group of senators that are his servants while Regina is the leader of the high school
Plastics which is a group of three girls: Regina, Gretchen, and Karen. Everybody in the high school
loves and knows everything about the Plastics and the girls look up to them. Caesar gets killed by

Jealousy took a role in the play when Cassius was explaining to Brutus how, in Cassius s opinion,
Caesar is not better than everybody. He gave examples on the time Caesar was swimming in a lake
with Cassius and nearly drowned, getting saved by Cassius. Cassius encouraged Brutus to kill Caesar
because he thought Brutus was just as good, if not better, than Caesar.. The ending of Julius Caesar is
important because it shows that not everything results in how people always want it to. Brutus and
Cassius both commit suicide in the end of the play. The importance in the end of the play is the ending
isn t always how you want it to be. Before Cassius and Brutus split up, Brutus was explaining to
Cassius that he would never kill himself. In the end, Brutus killed himself because he didn t want to

How safe do you feel when you attend school everyday? Many students and faculty don t really think

Furthermore, the many causes of why something this mind blowing could actually happen in our
country and feel so close to home. It is absolutely amazing how the viciousness of a single person
could affect the lives of so many people. Several people had begun to wonder what might have been
the cause of this massacre. One of the causes brought to attention was the fact that Virginia Tech
College didn t take proper responsibility when notified by faculty and students that Cho may be a
dangerous individual. If fact, if the school would have looked further into the gunman s history and
the many complaints people were constantly filing against him then maybe this wouldn t have
happened. However, we must not go back in time and say what if because that will not change what
has already happened. Another cause for this tragedy may be the violent movies, music, or television
shows. Several of people are influenced by the things they see whether they want to admit it or not is a

who write these movies don t think of the impact the movie may have on an individual s life. Last, this

Firebrand Of Liberty Thesis
During the American Civil War thousands of blacks enlisted to support the cause of emancipation.
Before the war ended the black troops began to shift their focus to issues such as citizenship rights by
preparing to become citizens, and insisting that they should receive the same treatment and
opportunities as white troops. The book Firebrand of Liberty does a good job arguing the importance
of the Florida expedition in convincing the North that blacks should fight and to increase enlistment.
However, the author fails to consider other reasons for that decision.
Blacks, both free and enslaved believed in the cause of emancipation. They often sent letters affirming
their desire for a Union victory and an end to the rebellion. Furthermore they looked forward to the
day when the wrongs of the institution of slavery would be redressed. This desire was reinforced by
the enthusiasm of freed slaves. The motivations of the black soldiers is also mentioned in Firebrand of

However, even before the Civil War was over the black troops began to think about more than just the
cause of abolishing the institution of slavery and instead began to focus more on issues such as
citizenship rights. They were preparing, by education to be a true and worthy citizen of the United
States. While they still supported the cause of emancipation, and by extension the Union victory that
was a prerequisite for the success of that cause, they wanted more than just freedom. Not only did

Little Italy is unique because it is no longer the ethnic enclave it was 115 years ago. When comparing
Little Italy to other ethnic neighborhoods, we can immediately see differences. In Chinatown, for
example, there are many Chinese restaurants, businesses, and structures scattered throughout the
neighborhood. In addition, many Chinese people can be found visiting, working, and even living in
the enclave. When you see these Chinese individuals, they are often speaking the Chinese language.
Little Italy, however, is quite different from Chinatown. Unlike Chinatown, Little Italy has lost its

What Was The Mashiach s Impact On Judaism
Judaism, one of history s oldest monotheistic beliefs, is a semitic religion based upon the covenant
made by the Jewish God, Yahweh, to Abraham. Abraham s descendant was Jacob called Israel. From
Abraham came the beginning of the Jewish religion and from Israel came the nation through which
the covenant was to continue. However the people did not always stay faithful to God and it is due to a
number of significant people that the religion was able to continue to today. Isaiah s impact on
Judaism can still be seen in modern Judaistic society and religion.

How The Columbia Disaster Made NASA
The space shuttle Columbia disaster lead NASA to finally change their culture and realize that no
matter how small a threat may be perceived, it cannot be overlooked. The Columbia disaster was the
second disaster in NASA s history, that a small component, which was not adequately tested,
inevitably caused a chain reaction that lead to the disintegration of the space shuttle leaving no
survivors. The first disaster was Challenger in 1986. The Columbia disaster investigations lead NASA
to look further than just procedures and into the culture behind the entire space shuttle program. The
recognition of human spaceflight as a develop mental activity requires a shift in focus from operations

The Cold War was a Big Chicken Match
The cold war was a long war lasting 45 years but was never actually any fighting. The war was
between two national super powers the United States and the Soviet Union. The war was one big
chicken match seeing who could build the biggest bomb the fastest. The big argument was between
communism and democracy. The USA supported Democracy and its freedoms. Democracy is
basically freedom, you may do as you please and make your own decisions. You can be a bartender or
a CEO your fate lies in your hands and not the governments. Also the biggest perk to democracy is the
right to vote. You can vote on you countries leader vs. a king or a prime minister. The people of
democracy have a say in the government. The USSR supports Communism. Communism is led by a
prime minister and gives the people no choices. You may not choose who leads your country. The
government decides your future you have no say in your job or your pay. Everything is decided for
you like you re a toddler. Most of the world today in democratic (including the USSR) and
communism is dying out. Both of these supper powers used the Domino Effect to spread their choice
of government. The domino effect is the belief that if one country switches to democracy or
communism all surrounding countries will follow. Wisconsin Senator McCarthy thought there were
many communists in the USA government. McCarthyism is how the senator wrote down 205 names

Is social media responsible for the increase in mental health issues in young people?
For the majority of my generation social media is an integral part of our lives. Since the invention of
the smart phone we have only ever been a few clicks away from our friends and endless information.
However, how is this affecting our mental health? On the one hand it can be argued that it is
enhancing our communication skills yet studies have suggested that offline behaviours such as
bullying are becoming more and more prevalent online.
With the dawn of social media also came cyberbullying. Unlike verbal and physical bullies,
cyberbullies have the power of anonymity and omnipresence, which in some cases can allow them to
be untouchable. One only has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence it is unlikely that participants would be willing to reveal that level of personal information in a
survey. Therefore, this study does not reflect the true number of the sample experiencing suicidal
thoughts. One could argue that cyberbullying is not the fault of social media and if social media had
not come about the other forms of bullying would just have increased in severity. Ybarra and Mitchell
et al (2004) found that: Students who bully online are more likely to report poor parent child
relationships and a lack of parental monitoring of online behaviour . So surely the responsibility of the
increase in mental health problems lies with the parents. The world is always adapting therefore, it is a
parent s duty to make sure that their children are taught the appropriate behaviours for any social
setting.
Yet one could argue that social media provides opportunities for social interaction that those with
mental illnesses such as social anxiety would not otherwise be able to have. 0.8% of the adult
population suffers from agoraphobia, a fear of being in situations where escape might be difficult. So
one could argue that social media provides a lower pressure environment where at least the person is
receiving some social interaction rather than none at all. Someone with social anxiety disorder is
characterized as having a constant phobia of social situations in which they believe they will be

The Effects Of Extracurricular Activities On College Students
As kids get into high school, most parents hope that their kids will join some kind of club or team. A
question parents might ask is, How involved should kids be in extracurricular activities or should they
even be involved at all? Extracurricular activities can be both advantageous and unpromising
depending on what the student plans on participating in and also how many activities the student plans
participating in. Many studies have been conducted trying to find the answer to those questions. One
great thing that comes along with extracurricular activities is that it looks great on college
applications. They won t know if you spend hours upon hours playing video games; they will certainly
notice a lack of notable activities on your college application (Extracurricular Activity). When
admissions offices for colleges are looking at students applications for their school, the first thing they
look at to determine if they even meet the requirements to get into that school is their grades. The next
criteria is the amount of work or activities the applicant is involved in outside of the classroom. If two
people have the same GPA and the same academic test scores, the admissions office will look at the
extracurricular activities that both of the students have participated in. The student that has done more
outside of the classroom will most likely be accepted over the student he/she was competing against.

Embrace By The Needle By Gabor Mate
The Dark Side of the Brain
The reason people are able to communicate, connect, feel, and understand the world around them is
because of their highly intelligent minds. People often take this gift for granted, and do not fully
comprehend how capable their minds are of absorbing and processing information. Two authors with
two very different circumstances for their essays are able to support their arguments through
psychology and ongoing brain research. In Embrace by the Needle (2001), Gabor Mate explores the
psychological reason behind why addictions can develop in drug users. While in Is Google Making Us
Stupid? (2008) Nicholas Carr, explores the ongoing research on how digital media affect people s
cognitive development, in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the authors use two different methods of portraying their argument. Mate s argument is
strong and compelling with his research evidence. Using an ethos approach, he persuades the reader
that he can be trusted and that his evidence is compelling. He suggests that he is an expert in the field
of research and treatment of addictions. He develops the majority of his argument by explaining his
research findings on the psychological effects of drug abuse. He uses anecdotes from his patients at
the harm reducing, non profit Portland faculty to provide further proof that his research findings are
factual. He leaves the reader with a conclusive argument that is hard to argue with. In contrast, Carr
uses a logos approach to portray his argument, he develops the majority of his argument through
anecdotes instead of research facts. His argument is based on the conclusion he makes from his set of
facts and statistics. He shares his own personal anecdote and other people s anecdote of how they are
finding it hard now to focus on reading a book. He then uses the results from a published study of
online research habits to support his anecdote evidence. By using the logos approach, he forms an
argument that is logical and appeals to the reader intellect. However, since the research on how digital
media affect people cognitive development is still ongoing, there is still not enough concrete evidence.

Performance Enhancing Drugs For Professional Sports
Alex Rodriguez, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, and Barry Bonds. What do all of these legendary
baseball players have in common? They are some of the all time homerun leaders in the history of
Major League Baseball. They also have another thing in common, which is how they all got onto the
career home runs list, through the use of performance enhancing drugs. The debate on whether or not
performance enhancing substances should be allowed in professional sports has been going on for
years, decades even. Many believe that using steroids and other performance enhancers should
automatically disqualify an athlete from ever being able to be a member of the Hall of Fame, in sports
in general, not just in Major League Baseball. However, there is an argument to be made to make the
use of performance enhancing drugs legal in all of professional sports. Performance enhancing drugs
should remain illegal in professional sports because they provide an unfair advantage, they are
extremely unethical, and they can also be dangerous to athletes.
One of the biggest reasons I believe performance enhancing drugs should be illegal in sports is due to
the obvious and completely unfair advantage they provide to athletes. One of the fundamental pillars
of success in professional sports is the fact that athletes have achieved what they have by strictly
working hard, using sheer God given talent, instead of taking an obscene amount of pills and
substances. Furthermore, no matter how you put it, using

disrespect to the Native American culture because they imitate their ceremonial dances and traditional

Evolution Of Chemical Warfare
Records of the implementation of chemicals in battle tactics on a simple scale can be found as early as
the Bronze Age.1 However, relatively recent developments in industry have facilitated the production,
mobilization, and dissemination of destructive chemical agents. As a result of said technological
innovations, the scale of implementation has shifted, resulting in vastly amplified hazards to not just
military personnel, but also to the general public.2 3 The Geneva Protocol was enacted in 1925 with
goals to prevent the future abuse of harmful and arguably cruel tactics in warfare.2 This was in direct
response to the implementation of phosgene and chlorine gasses by Germany as weapons of mass

Aspects Of Arctic Sovereignty
Environmental Aspects of Arctic Sovereignty 1. Introduction The Arctic has the world s largest unused
source of oil and it is getting international attention because of its extremely value resources
(Crawford, Hanson Runnalls, 2008). According to Digman (2011) the Arctic s commercial interest
mostly rely on drilling, mining and transportation development. However, Arctic s development not
only will lead to economical profits but also will bring international conflicts. Due to this, a
Sovereignty by the five Arctic s coastal countries such as Canada, Denmark, Norway, Russia and
United States is essential. Moreover, Arctic s climate change is happening right now due to human
induced factors (Isted, 2009) and Arctic s development will lead to environmental damage (Johnston,
2012). The effects of this combination will have significant global consequences and could end in an
environmental catastrophe (Crawford et al., 2008). The purpose of this report is to discuss the Arctic s
resources and developments as well as the environmental impacts of the Arctic s development and
climate change. In addition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Digman (2011) concludes that melting permafrost will release a large volume of carbon to the sea
water; this will directly impact Arctic s fauna and flora. As a result, animal s distribution, range and
diversity will drastically change that some animal species may face extinction (Isted, 2009). However,
regardless of this situation, economic activities are increasing due to global warming (Isted, 2009)
because some countries consider the Arctic s melting ice an development opportunity (Smith, 2010).
Therefore, Crawford et al. (2008) argue that changing climate is making Arctic sovereignty a more
pressing and consequential issue and strategies are needed for the Arctic s environmental

The Super Bowl
My spirit is broken, my days are cut short, the grave awaits me. (job 17:10 NIV) Well, it s finished.
The Super Bowl is done and Denver begins their reign as champions of the NFL. For all of its
overhype, I have to admit I enjoy the Super Bowl. I look forward to it even if my favorite teams aren t
playing. Actually my favorite teams haven t played in a Super Bowl in a long time. But I enjoy the
hype leading up to it. I enjoy all of the analysis. I enjoy watching the commercials , at least most of
them. I remain more than a bit uncomfortable with the puppy/monkey/baby creature. Mascots should
make you want to buy the product, not create an urge to garb a baseball bat and try to kill it while you
mutter prayers to send it back to the Netherworld from which it came. And this game, at least on paper
had a lot going for it. The old pro versus the brash young gunslinging quarterback. One QB a physical
phenom, the other moving as if he is put together by bailing wire. A top offense versus a crippling
defense. In some ways that s what you want to see in a Super Bowl. But what I enjoy the most is the
after game interviews and press conferences. Well, specifically the interviews with the losers. Please
don t think I m being particularly sadistic about that. But let s face it, the interviews with the winners
are pretty boring. They all pretty much say the same thing. They thank their teammates, family and
owners. talk about giving 100%, its a team effort. And

Historical And Textual Data Of The Mesopotamian Religion
The Mesopotamian religion has not a large amount of information uncovered. There are both
archaeological and textual data that has been found on religious beliefs of the early Sumerian
civilization survive. The typical temples were constructed of mud bricks and adorned with buttresses
and many small cones of different colors. On the inside there was a niche for the image of the deity
right in front of an offering table. The early sanctuaries were simple in their style but the later new
temples contained spacious courts, which were rooms for attendant priests and a ziggurat. There were
three types of textual materials that have been discovered: prayers, descriptions of the rituals
conducted by priests, and mythological literature. Prayers were always associated with specific rites to
be performed by the person offering the prayers or by a priest attached to the sanctuary. The prayers
would consist of invocations to the gods, requests for assistance, and expressions of gratitude for past
favors or for dangers averted. There was a rule, that the worshipers did not emphasize such spiritual or
moral topics as death, survival, and contact with the divine. The discovered mythological literature is
difficult for present day readers to understand and the extent to which such myths reflect early
religious beliefs is unknown. In its beginning, Mesopotamian religion expressed harmony between
humanity and the natural powers on which it depended on survival. The Sumerians have

Jumpstart Our Business Act Case Study
Introduction Before 2008, the financial services industry experienced record growth and companies
leveraged their portfolio to take more risk. One of the largest failures in financial services was the
2008 collapse and bankruptcy of 158 year old Lehman Brothers. Bear Stearns, Merrill Lynch, and
Lehman Brothers had poor credit risks and loose liquidity requirements as did most companies during
this period. The difficulties in the housing market led to an aggressive number of mortgage defaults
and created a catastrophic scenario. The financial services model needs repair, and the enactment of
the Jumpstart Our Business Act (JOBS Act) signals a new era of alternative financing. Group Capital

Analysis Of George Orwell s Shooting An Elephant
Everyone has a moment in their lives that changes the way they think, or identifies our true views; an
event that reveals a part of them that was never known before then. For example, in the essay
Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell, Orwell himself is working as a British police officer in
Burma in the 1920 s. He does not like his job because of his hate for the oppressive nature of the
British government. However, he does take the job seriously. One day, he gets a report about an
elephant tearing through the town. He quickly gets his gun and rides to the scene with his horse. Once
Orwell arrives, the elephant is long gone, but he sees all the damage it has caused, even killing a man
in its rampage. Orwell asks for a larger gun, only to be used as a last resort against the elephant, and
sets off to find the elephant. Many miles away, in a field, the elephant stands. However, it seems to
have calmed down and is now eating as if nothing happened. By this point, Orwell has attracted the
attention of hundreds of the natives, who have followed him in anticipation of seeing him kill the
elephant. Although Orwell did not want to kill the elephant, he felt as though he had to, because of the
position of power he held over the natives. He shoots the elephant, but is not content with his decision.
Orwell believes that it was his position of power in the community that forced him into shooting the
elephant, to avoid looking like a fool. It was through this event in his life that

This is even the case during dinner on a Friday or Saturday night. The only exceptions to this time are
in the cases of large parties with more than six people. This was all found to be correct. Food is served
from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. and drinks until 2:00 a.m. (Barbara) After being seated the servers are
very quick to introduce themselves and accommodate you. They come right over to you in just a
couple of minutes to get drink and appetizer orders. They are very timely, returning with the drinks
ordered in just two or three minutes. Promptly they ask if a selection has been made. If no decision has
been made, the server is happy to check back in about 5 minutes to take the order. After taking the
order, the servers will refill drinks whenever necessary and ask if anything is needed. There aren t
many chances for them to visit, however, because the food comes to your table in about twenty
minutes. At which time they will again fill any drinks and get anything else that is asked for. If shrimp
is ordered they might have to go make some cocktail sauce because they don t keep it already made.
But the servers are pleased to make it. They also seem very delighted to check on the progress of the
meal. They might make about six or seven visits to the table in a little over an hour. Teamwork is

The Giver, By Lois Lowry
Would you like to live in a society where anger, greed, hate and pain are eliminated? A society where
differences are nonexistent and the feelings of envy and jealousy are extinct? It sounds wonderful, but
what does this society cost its citizens? Lois Lowry wrote The Giver, and when it adapted into the
film, it is directed by Phillip Noyce. The film takes place in a society that has eliminated the
differences within people. They have little emotion, cannot see colors, and have no memory of all the
past events like war, pain, animals, and emotions. They are all assigned jobs at a young age and Jonas
is assigned as the receiver of memory. He keeps all the memories of the past to provide wisdom for
the future. Once the current receiver of memory (the giver) gives him all of these memories and
emotions he realizes that keeping all of these things from the community is wrong. He sees his father
releasing (killing) babies and his father did not realize he was killing them. Jonas family was caring
for a child that was not mature enough to be in the nurturing center and is eventually scheduled to be
released. Jonas took the baby out of the community, crossed the boundary and restores all the
emotions and memories to the entire population. Is a perfect, predictable, systematic society worth
sacrificing personal choice and emotional individuality? No, emotions and personal choices give our
lives purpose, drives us to become more; these things make us human. The intended

The Structure Of The Skeletal Muscle Essay
In mammals, there are an abundant amount of varying systems and components that all work together
in order for the body to function properly and sustain life; one of those components that have a great
portion of responsibility is the skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscle is responsible for a great portion of
movements of the body, such as transportation, obtaining food, and fight or flight responses. Muscles
are composed myofibrils, which when grouped together forms muscle fibers and when those are
grouped together they form muscles fascicles; multiple muscle fascicles are formed together to form
skeletal muscles. All skeletal muscles are motor neuron dependent and composed of muscle fibers that
are innervated by a motor axon and together form what is known as the motor unit. The muscle fibers
all work together to form a muscle contraction, which is initiated by a neuronal action potential. The
action potential can be activated one of two ways, it can be either voluntary by the person or it can be
in voluntary, which would include electrical stimulation to the peripheral nerve. After the action
potential is initiated, a neurotransmitter is released in the neuromuscular junction, which results in the
depolarization of the muscle or a contraction (Schiaffino, Blaauw, Dyar, 2016). There are several
different ways to measure the overall activity of skeletal muscles; one way deals with the electrical
activity. During a contraction of skeletal muscles a significant amount of

Comparison Of Susan Bordo And The Male Body
People tend to views an image based on how society say it should be they tend to interpret the image

Moreover, these arguments come into union to show what society plants into our minds acts itself out
when viewing pictures. Both Susan Bordo and John Berger shows that based on assumptions this is
what causes us to perceive an image in a certain way. Learning assumption plays into our everyday

Berger is talking about people look at a piece art and expect to know the personality of the people
portrayed. Thus, Bordo is stating how society work upon us saying its ok for women to be naked and
not male in advertisement. In comparison, both authors formulated learning assumptions through their
work by writing with assumption. Berger essay is filled with written assumption offered to his reader
as guides to flow alone with work. Berger present this assumption, Assumptions concerning: Beauty,
truth, genius, civilization, form, status, taste, etc. (Berger 143). He make it understandable that we go
looking for a category of feature when looking at a piece of art instead of looking at its originality as a
whole master piece. Bordo write with assumption through advertisements. She say, It used to be that
one could tell a lot about gender and race from looking at ads (Bordo 208). Bordo have even been a
victim of learning assumptions herself. She is giving her read that past vs. future ratio, since in the

  • 2. Front Line Supervisor Essay The vast complexity of workplace laws causes front line supervisors to know of, or at least know how to find, all kinds of pertinent law information. Applicable laws can originate from Acts, Amendments, Commissions, court cases, and statues. The similarities among each law is the requirement for front line supervisors to know which are applicable and how to search for them. According to Steingold in The Employer s Legal Handbook, In doing legal research, there are several sources you may find useful, broadly categorized as primary and secondary sources (345). Researchers need to be careful to ensure their sources are credible. Front line supervisors who came about their position through years of line service may lack the base knowledge to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the protection doesn t come with absolute simplicity. Keeping and providing adequate documentation to support their stance can determine the outcome of legal battles. A specific example involves the United States Department of Labor and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Section 5 states, Each employer shall furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free of recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees. Having pictures, standard operating procedures, or statements present when reporting can influence management to respond more timely. If employees aren t able to develop abatements through their front line supervisors and organization, they may report using the anonymity of OSHA. However, employees must be swift with their decision to report for specific matters. Per 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 1977 Section 11(c)(2), employees have within 30 days of the violating event to report. However, ethical management would prevent employees from having to go to this extent. Some cases of employee reporting provide exposure to a hazard not identified by front line supervision. In abating such workplace reports management takes a proactive approach in minimizing potential worker s compensation. Defined by NIOSH, Worker s compensation systems were established to provide ... • 3. Christopher Columbus Dbq 1.) There are a lot of reasons why Christopher Columbus was a great leader and in this journal it shows many examples. For instance Christopher Columbus is very loyal to his king back in his homeland has he always says he will return to his highness and tell his ability with all of his discoveries. Also he is a hero because the islands he came across he let natives sail with him and he gave them hope which he does through god and Christian belief, and he doesn t force them to anything he gives natives gifts therefore earning their trust and then he gets a helping hand from them. He also explains how people from differently lands believed him and his men to be Men s from the heavens which explains their loyalty and helpfulness natives saw in Columbus. 2.) ... I feel there is many things in Kirkpatrick Sale that are valid but one that sticks out is when he talks about the land of how it was humans thrust out of an abundant land into a harsh and hostile world. It was a Paradise Found, the wonderful world they inhabited, having ascended from some darker depths, and it was precious and holy and to be protected. It s considered the best natural appetite suppressant that has not been researched thoroughly but showed good efficacy. Another type of weight loss pills is gaining more popularity due to more safe and healthy effect comparing with others fat blockers. It helped many people lose weight along with good dieting regime, but it s side effects include abdomen discomfort, diarrhea, and the inability to absorb a lot of important fat soluble vitamins and other nutrients. Alli is a lighter version of Xenical with the same side effects and many medical professionals refuse to ally themselves with Alli as best weight loss pill because of moderate efficacy combined with many side effects. • 5. My Table Conflict The struggle between staying within society s expectations and the desire to make a commitment to one s art can be daunting. This dilemma has been questioned for ages. Sometimes society even questions someone who doesn t quite fit into a norm they believe exists. These conflict or struggle is addressed in Jane Campion s film, An Angel at My Table. The film is based on a trilogy of autobiographies by Australian author, Janet Frame. Adapted originally for a three part mini series, the film chronicles Janet s life from childhood to young adulthood. Throughout the film its director highlights the contest for one person, with immense talent and insecurity, to conform to the social norms of the 30 s, 40 s, and onward. The director s use of narrations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Janet throughout the film is notably placed in windows. In Mark Cousins book The Story of Film he mentions Campion s way of making Frame look startled in the film. Campion and her cinematographer, Stuart Dryburgh, used wide angle lenses to exaggerate spaces in the film (Cousins, 708). Her mother frames her face in the first train station scene in order to protect her from the scenes of mental illness out her window. Framed by the window Janet is still contained (Gillet). She is looking outside for what awaits. Her containment within that window can also be viewed as her containment in her mind as far as the community sees it. A positive outlook is asserted in the scenes where Janet is in Spain. In this shots she is sitting in the window while it is wrapped around her. She smiles, alone in her freedom to be who she without restrictions from outer infringements. Finally, the closing scene, the author is home and content to be within that window. Sue Gillet concurs; She speaks the words she has found to write, comforting words (Gillet, 1). Janet Frame is no longer is is confined to was society wants from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Differences Between Seals And Walruses In contrast to whales, seals and walruses have remained heavily furred marine mammals. There are several differences that make the retention of fur an adaptive trait in seals and walruses. These advantages can be divided into three categories; life aspects, evolutionary descent, diving differences. The first among these are their life aspects. Seals and walruses spend much of their time in the water foraging however; land is required for the birthing and rearing of their young. In addition to this seals are one of the few species in which the female receives no help in raising their young. The female is the sole provider of food for herself and the infant meaning she must leave the infant alone on the surface while she hunts. Young seals remain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whales are descended from large hoofed predators called mesonychids in the Pakistan area. While seals and walruses descended from a bear like ancestor, the ursoids. (Rybczynski, Dawson, and Tedford 2009) In addition the carnivores and ungulates had long since separated before the convergent evolution that lead to whales, seals and walruses to move back to the ocean. (Prothero 2014) The predatory nature of carnivore that leads them to hunt their prey may also play a part in differentiating these mammals. They hunt animals that may live in the sea or on land such as the penguin and must be adapted as such to follow their prey from sea to land in order to catch it. During the evolution of these animals hair was lost in the whales but retained in the seals and walruses another reason this may have happened is because some seals and walruses eat the mussels, clams and other bivalves that live on the ocean floor. Hair in the form of whiskers or vibrissae that is present in seals and walruses serves a mechanoreception role. They assist in finding food such as mussels and clams on the ocean floor. These vibrissae have a sensitive innervated sinus area that allows the vibrissae to be used as a sensory organ rather than for thermoregulation as the rest of the body fur is used. It may be that the body fur remains because of these vibrissae. If the seals and walruses were to begin losing the fur on their body as insulation and to spend more time in the sea than they could also risk losing the vibrissae that assists them in finding food below the ocean surface since it too is a type of hair. • 7. Rhetorical Analysis Of Dorothy Samuels Wrong On Gun Rights The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution entitles citizens the right to possess and bear arms; which has continually been an important issue for decades. Gun control is not just one concern, but rather many, within a common category. One may consider gun control a crime issue, while to others it may be a rights issue. Inside each and every issue, there are particular people who want more gun control legislation, and those who want less. Dorothy Samuels does a phenomenal job of portraying her stand on gun control through the use of ethos, logos, and pathos, in her article, Wrong on Gun Rights . Samuels utilizes the rhetorical strategies in order to persuade the audience into agreeing with her views. Dorothy Samuels view on gun control is illustrated in a handful of ways in the article Wrong on Gun Rights . Her first important point informs and educates her audience of the hazards of courts permitting second amendment rights as well as revoking bans on guns. This point was also used to mention and elaborate on lawsuits involving the misuse of guns, which were handled by the courts. Another significant point Samuels made was that US citizens should be advised of the way our government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. A Brief Note On The Primary Function Of Exec Lab 2 CSNB324 Muath Abdullah SN091649 Answer Q1: Execv(): it is a prototype of exec family, v is added to indicate the type of argument which in this case specified as a vector (array of character pointers). The primary function of exec () system call is to execute a file or a program. This is done by creating a new process image from a regular, executable file. This file is either an interpreter script or an executable file object. It has the form execv(char *path, char *argv[], char *envp[]). The path argument is the pathname of a file that contains the new program to be executed. The argv array is a list of parameter strings, and the envp array is a list of environment variable strings and values that should be used when the process begins executing the new programs. When a process encounters the execve() system call, the next instruction it executes will be the one at the entry point of the new executable file. Execvp() The created child process does not have to run the same program as the parent process does. The exec type system calls allow a process to run any program files, which include a binary executable or a shell script. On this page, we only discuss one such system call: execvp(). The execvp() system call requires two arguments: 1. The first argument is a character string that contains the name of a file to be executed. 2. The second argument is a pointer to an array of character strings. More precisely, its type is char **, which is exactly identical to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. In Dubious Battle Essay Revolution against Persecution Today in the United States citizens are given rights to speak freely, worship as they wish, and pursue life, liberty, and happiness. Unfortunately, most foreign nations do not grant their citizens these rights. People in foreign nations live with little protection, financial insecurity, and are governed by callous rules. Behind closed doors in private business in the United States, many workers face this tyranny as well. This relentless dictatorship causes men to live in fear for their own lives. Men struggle to abide by these strict and inhumane rulings. In most scenarios, man recognizes that there is no easy way out. Consequentially, a rebellion remains to be the only option. Since before Christ, men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather than being a welcoming presence, the boss already had an aggressive attitude toward the men. One might attribute later rebellious behaviors by the workers to the malicious care the workers received. When men do not have a strong support system in times of struggle, men are compelled to rebel in hope of escaping brutality and finding comfort in their life. People facing oppression may be living without specific freedoms and liberties, forced into imprisoned life, or face another hardship. In these situations, people typically act eccentrically and make unjustified decisions. Officers confront Dakin, a leader of the strike in In Dubious Battle, during one of the movements. Dakin challenges the police, He lets out a howl like a coyote and starts for em. They shoot him in the leg, but that don t stop him . . . he just went nuts . . . Dakin bit a cop on the hand (In Dubious Battle, 145). The dreadful living conditions and state of life made Dakin, like many other men, go crazy. One misunderstanding led Dakin to a senseless decision and revolt. In another occasion, George is faced with a decision in a hostile situation. Lennie killed Curley s wife, and Curley is now out to torture and kill Lenny. In a split second decision, George decides to kill Lennie and save Lenny from Curley s potential harm. • 10. War Of Glory And Fame Essay It has been said time and time again that men go to war for glory and fame, yet the First World War began a little differently. This war began with an assassination that then led countries across the globe to become involved in a revenge war. Each country that entered the war after Austria Hungary s initial declaration on Serbia was tied to a treaty. These treaties then lead to each country turning to another ally for more men, for more power and more weaponry. Then we see each country being able to go after the neutral countries, and the neutral countries would side with whomever could give them the best offer. With all this intelligence and military mindedness comes new technology and new weapons, each country trying out do another. Each country was out for themselves. Germany hoping to gain more power and trade ports like India, Russia wanting to take out Germany and Austria to have more control over the Balkans, France in repelling Germany and settle and old score with taking land, and Britain hoped to retain naval supremacy and keep its African colonies. Do to the global aspect of the war and the huge numbers then brought in we saw nations and colonies crumbled and torn apart, thousands of lives lost, for a war no one saw coming and that no one thought would have global reach. I believe that because of all this The Great War should really be called The Great Treaty War, because the treaties are truly what pulled countries on a global scale to enter the war. When we ... In the play, Brutus lied to and betrayed his best friend Caesar. Brutus stabbed Caesar and killed him for Rome. Before the war ended the black troops began to shift their focus to issues such as citizenship rights by preparing to become citizens, and insisting that they should receive the same treatment and opportunities as white troops. The book Firebrand of Liberty does a good job arguing the importance of the Florida expedition in convincing the North that blacks should fight and to increase enlistment. However, the author fails to consider other reasons for that decision. Blacks, both free and enslaved believed in the cause of emancipation. They often sent letters affirming their desire for a Union victory and an end to the rebellion. For the majority of my generation social media is an integral part of our lives. Since the invention of the smart phone we have only ever been a few clicks away from our friends and endless information. However, how is this affecting our mental health? On the one hand it can be argued that it is enhancing our communication skills yet studies have suggested that offline behaviours such as bullying are becoming more and more prevalent online. With the dawn of social media also came cyberbullying. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence it is unlikely that participants would be willing to reveal that level of personal information in a survey. Therefore, this study does not reflect the true number of the sample experiencing suicidal thoughts. One could argue that cyberbullying is not the fault of social media and if social media had not come about the other forms of bullying would just have increased in severity. Ybarra and Mitchell et al (2004) found that: Students who bully online are more likely to report poor parent child relationships and a lack of parental monitoring of online behaviour . So surely the responsibility of the increase in mental health problems lies with the parents. The world is always adapting therefore, it is a parent s duty to make sure that their children are taught the appropriate behaviours for any social setting. Yet one could argue that social media provides opportunities for social interaction that those with mental illnesses such as social anxiety would not otherwise be able to have. 0.8% of the adult population suffers from agoraphobia, a fear of being in situations where escape might be difficult. A question parents might ask is, How involved should kids be in extracurricular activities or should they even be involved at all? Extracurricular activities can be both advantageous and unpromising depending on what the student plans on participating in and also how many activities the student plans participating in. Many studies have been conducted trying to find the answer to those questions. One great thing that comes along with extracurricular activities is that it looks great on college applications. They won t know if you spend hours upon hours playing video games; they will certainly notice a lack of notable activities on your college application (Extracurricular Activity). When admissions offices for colleges are looking at students applications for their school, the first thing they look at to determine if they even meet the requirements to get into that school is their grades. The next criteria is the amount of work or activities the applicant is involved in outside of the classroom. If two people have the same GPA and the same academic test scores, the admissions office will look at the extracurricular activities that both of the students have participated in. He develops the majority of his argument by explaining his research findings on the psychological effects of drug abuse. They are some of the all time homerun leaders in the history of Major League Baseball. They also have another thing in common, which is how they all got onto the career home runs list, through the use of performance enhancing drugs. The debate on whether or not performance enhancing substances should be allowed in professional sports has been going on for years, decades even. Many believe that using steroids and other performance enhancers should automatically disqualify an athlete from ever being able to be a member of the Hall of Fame, in sports in general, not just in Major League Baseball. However, there is an argument to be made to make the use of performance enhancing drugs legal in all of professional sports. Performance enhancing drugs should remain illegal in professional sports because they provide an unfair advantage, they are extremely unethical, and they can also be dangerous to athletes. One of the biggest reasons I believe performance enhancing drugs should be illegal in sports is due to the obvious and completely unfair advantage they provide to athletes. The typical temples were constructed of mud bricks and adorned with buttresses and many small cones of different colors. On the inside there was a niche for the image of the deity right in front of an offering table. There were three types of textual materials that have been discovered: prayers, descriptions of the rituals conducted by priests, and mythological literature. Prayers were always associated with specific rites to be performed by the person offering the prayers or by a priest attached to the sanctuary. The prayers would consist of invocations to the gods, requests for assistance, and expressions of gratitude for past favors or for dangers averted. He does not like his job because of his hate for the oppressive nature of the British government. However, he does take the job seriously. One day, he gets a report about an elephant tearing through the town. He quickly gets his gun and rides to the scene with his horse. Once Orwell arrives, the elephant is long gone, but he sees all the damage it has caused, even killing a man in its rampage. Orwell asks for a larger gun, only to be used as a last resort against the elephant, and sets off to find the elephant. Many miles away, in a field, the elephant stands. However, it seems to have calmed down and is now eating as if nothing happened. By this point, Orwell has attracted the attention of hundreds of the natives, who have followed him in anticipation of seeing him kill the elephant.
