How the United States Must Handle China and Its Military...
There is a delicate balancing act a country must be aware of when it is a military superpower. A
superpower must exercise extreme care to protect their economic superiority, advance their foreign
policies, and project their military might all while working to advance the global system. Enticing
China to become a responsible pillar of the global system will be one of the greatest challenges of
coming decades for the United Statesand the Western world particularly since it appears for the
moment China is uninterested in playing such a role. This is the unique situation the United States
and China find themselves in, with so many mutual interests, and as the global economy begins to
slow, challenges such as: China s increase in military... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Bergsten, unless China is careful such a regional grouping would almost certainly
trigger a sharp backlash from the U.S. and EU, as well as from numerous developing countries,
who view this as discrimination against them. The test for the U.S. is how to deal with this
matter while still fostering positive relations with its Chinese s trading partner. The National
Security Strategy released by the White House states, We welcome a China that takes on a
responsible leadership role in working with the United States and the international community to
advance priorities like economic recovery. My concern is whether this is a goal shared by China
due to their numerous interactions with other nations in the region. When it comes to the global
economy, this much is true: 2009 was China s year. In the first decade of the 21st century, China
established itself as the world s workshop. The next decade (if things go right) could see China
emerge as the world s leading exporter of capital and military muscle. China (not including Hong
Kong) has become the largest trading partner of Taiwan and the second largest trading partner of
Japan. The hope is increased economic trade between these nations will elevate some of the
political tension recently experienced. The Peoples Republic of China (PRC) has become South
Korea s largest foreign investment destination and largest export market. According to Taiwanese
and Korean data, in

Franklins Road To Humility Essay
Ben s Autobiography begins in humility and ends in humility. He is born into a modest family
being the youngest son of the youngest son for five generations back. He finishes part two with
the modesty of an accomplished elder. However, in between it is full of arrogance and pride. During
his early years (part 1 of The Autobiography), Ben s diligence and thirst for knowledge continuously
put him in comforting situations. Unfortunately he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He proceeds to his brothers place of business to show off all these things and before he leaves he
buys the journey men a round of drinks. Where
is the humility in that? His brother later said he was insulted so much in front of his workers
that he could never forgive or forget. Ben thought he was on top of the world when he came
back to visit his family. But before he knew it, his father declined to assist him and he was stuck
in England with no money and no job. That was one of the lessons he needed to learn in order to
reach real humility in his later years. One day you are dining with royalty and have everything
you need, the next day you are looking for a place to day, lonely, and living on bread and water.
Ben uses the words reality and appearance twice in the autobiography. The first time it is in
regards to him being efficient and hardworking. But he goes on to show how he is hardworking
in the eyes of the citizens. He says that, in order to secure my credit and character as a
tradesman... I would dress plainly and was never seen in places of idle Diversion, and I would
never go out fishing or shooting (page 367). This proves the appearance of his hardworking
efficiency. He doesn t say anything about what he really wanted to do in regards to fishing and
shooting etc. On page 384 we see the second mention of reality and appearance. It was these few
paragraphs that convinced me Benjamin Franklin

Persuasive Speech On Yoga
The winter has ended and it may be the time to get rid of our winter bodies. Admit it, girl, we all
become a little lazy during those cold months. Worry not because every time is the right time to
start exercising.
It s okay if you don t like going to the gym because, luckily, there re less intense ways of kicking in
some workouts. For example, yoga.
I m sure you ve heard of yoga, maybe you even know someone who goes to yoga classes every
week. Nonetheless, yoga is the type of workout everyone should try at least once. It s good for
both your body and mind. I mean, it s mostly about that stress relief that we all need.

Building A Sustainable Plan For A Business Model
Built to make profit, businesses/firms believed making money was their sole purpose and their
business model made everything subservient to money and corporate greed. Only now, have we
begun to see and understand how irresponsible we have become and those business models may
make money but they are killing the environment. Here we will look at four businesses and their
different models that center around sustainability, caring about mother earth, and still able to make
money. The framework we will evaluate these organizations is through the triple bottom line
method, process improvement, economic development, and giving back (altruism), as well as,
build a sustainable plan for a company that had not implemented one in the past and is failing to
accept any environmental responsibility. Beginning with the triple bottom line approach, we see
this phenomenon discards the notion of top line revenue/bottom line profitand loss, we see
companies are responsible for three bottom lines: people, planet and profit. Triple bottom line
companies are responsibly sustainable; they benefit the communities, facilitate the development of
better products and services, and contribute to society. The question now becomes why not every
company is adjusting their business model to the triple bottom line. Companies like Patagonia are
onboard with this idea and they have been very profitable and highly regarded on Wall Street.
Companies like BASF and DuPont developed well defined that

Personality And Theory Of Personality Essay
Personality Examined
Personality is deeply complexing subject that cannot be easily summed up. There is no concrete
right answer, or only one way to evaluate any given subject, as every aspect of personality has more
than one view point or angle. Famous psychologists such as Freud, Adler, Jung, Erickson, Eysenck,
and Skinner all shaped and conducted the research that would come together and be taught to
generations as the foundations of personality and the theory of personality. To better understand the
idea of personality, we are going to examine the six different cornerstones of personality. They
consist of Nature versus Nurture, The Unconscious, You of the Self, Development, Motivation and
Maturation. In this, no one theory is more valid than the other, and no one research has more
validity than the other. In this paper each cornerstone will be examined using scholarly research.
Foundations of Personality
Nature Versus Nurture Before the concept of nature versus nurture can be broken down and
examined, first there must be a proper understanding of both terms. In context of nature versus
nurture, nature refers to a person s biological factors, such as the hereditary factors passed down
from the genes of their birth parents. Whereas nurture refers to an individual s personal experience
and environment that shapes them into who they are, and gave them a form of identity. Montag et
al (2016), work suggests that while in some cases nurture can be an influence on

Differences Between Stop And Terry Stop
When it comes to stop and frisk and Terry Stop, can be both good thing and bad thing for our
country. The good is if officer take there time and observe we can help prevent a lot of crime. On
the downside, these officers mostly target African American and Hispanic males. Stop and frisk
takes place when an officer feels it s some type of suspicion about a citizen, they then stop you
and frisk if they feel is necessary. But not all of those stop and frisk are good, the statistics in
New York show that 9 out of10 stop and frisk are innocent. So what does this tell you? That
maybe as officers we should try a different method or a different type of citizen to stop and frisk.
The Terry Stop, however, is a bit different. Terry Stop came from a case that took place in 1968
in Ohio; about a man who was stopped by an officer who felt Mr. Terry was behaving suspiciously
with two other friends. After reading and learning about the Terry vs. Ohio case I... Show more

As a result, a Terry stop may be challenged as unlawful when as suspect is treated as if he or she

Amendment gives that the privilege of the general population to be secure in their people,
houses, papers, and impacts, against irrational pursuits and seizures, should not be disregarded.
This boundless right of 9*9 individual security has a place as much with the native in the city of
our urban areas with regards to the property holder closeted in his examination to discard his
mystery issues (Terry vs. Ohio). There are three main focuses when dealing with Terry stop:
movement, length of detention, and intrusiveness. Terry stop is also a good and bad way to
decrease the crime, but it s mostly just the approach and how aggressive officers, detectives, and

Cutting Edge Korean Slides From Middle Korean
Cutting edge Korean slides from Middle Korean, which thus dives from Old Korean,
whiplummets from the dialect talked in Prehistoric Korea (named Proto Korean), whose nature
is wrangled, to a limited extent since Korean hereditary inceptions are dubious. A connectch ion
of Korean (together with its wiped out relatives which shape the Koreanic family) with Japonic
dialects has been proposed by etymologists like William George Aston and Samuel Martin. Roy
Andrew Miller and others proposed or bolstered the incorporation of Koreanic and Japonic
dialects in the implied Altaic family (a full scale family that would contain Tungusic, Mongolian
and Turkic families), now not acknowledged by generally masters. Chinese characters touched

Paradise Bent Video Analysis
For Video Reflection Paper Two, I decieded to watch and write about Paradise Bent . Paradise
Bent follows Heather Croall learning about the Fa afaine s of Somoa everyday life, past, and
place in their culture. Fa afaine are Somoan boys who are brought up as girls, and act as girls in
everyday Samoan life. The first aspect of the video I found interesting was how it seemed that the
Fa afaine are a new trend and sect of Samoan society. What I found interesting was how the arrival
of the European missioniaries correlated with the explosion of transvestism. What also fascinated
me was how after the European s came, the girls of Samoa seemed to be overshadowed and

I thought it was strange how the western, and more imporantly Christian culture, led to Samoan
women being forced to wear breast coverings and mandatory dresses. This was because they
percieved them to be too revealing and sexual. One aspect of the video that I found surprising
was how Samoan religion supported the Fa afaine. Christianity is the official religion of Samoa.
A core value of Christianity is the close sexual bond and relationship between a man and woman.
I found it shcoking how accepting the Samoan minsiters and pastors were of the Fa afaine. I was
also suprised how the Fa afaine were allowed to dress as women while attending church. A
second aspect of the video that I found surprising was how accepting the enitre communtity was

how at five years old, Blondie s mom gave him dresses to wear and openly praised his siblings
when they referred to him as their sister . His mom allowed and praised him for wearing lava
lava under his armpits and shaving his entire body to mimic that of a woman. What was also
suprising was how after his mom s actions, Blondie began viewing himself as a female and saw the
women of the community as his role models. Because of this, he and the thousands of other Fa

Social And Political Movements Of The Progressive Era
Throughout America s history, there have been numerous social and political movements that
have had a profound and lasting impact on American culture. Movements such as the Civil
Rights Movement and the Women s Suffrage Movement have influenced and shaped American
ideals and beliefs. These movements were typically driven by a cause. From the 1890s to the
1920s, a period of social and political reform flourished in America. This was driven by the desire
to eliminate corruption in the government. People wanted to have a positive impact on society and
they wanted to speak up for what they believed in. This era was a pivotal turning point in the
history of the United States. This era was known as the Progressive Era. During the Progressive...

However, this issue was not being recognized on a national level. It wasn t seen as a major issue
until 1898. In 1898, there were reports in which stated that Armour Co. supplied rotten canned
beef to the U.S. Army. This occurred during the Spanish American War. Many troops became ill
as a result which meant that they were unable to fight. This devastating event captured the
attention of the public and brought awareness to the issue of foods being processed in
unsanitary conditions. As a result of this, the Senate formed the Pure Food Investigating
Committee in 1899. This committee held hearings in which it was discovered that the processed
foods were adulterated and unsafe for consumers. Amidst all of this controversy, journalists
began to express their opinions in their articles. They played a major role in spreading new
information to the public. Journalists criticized the work of Beef Trust businesses, which were a
group of five large meatpacking companies. Journalists would also talk about the unsanitary
conditions in which the meat was being produced and how these companies would try to avoid
inspection. This helped spread awareness to this issue that was continuing to grow as each day
passed by. One journalist who was widely recognized across America was Charles Edward Russell.
Charles Edward Russell played a significant role in voicing his opinions and bringing light to this
issue. He wrote a series of articles

Ecological Systems Theory By Urie Bronfenbrenner
Ecological Systems Theory The Ecological Systems Theory was founded by Urie Bronfenbrenner.
This theory focuses on the impact of the environment on a child s overall development. The
identifying characteristics of Bronfenbrenner s theory are the five systems used to organize external
influences within a child s development. These systems are the microsystem, mesosystem,
exosystem, macrosystem, and chronosystem. Each system is aligned with specific interaction
levels. The microsystem is considered to be the most intimate of the levels, in which development is
dependent on the immediate environment. The immediate environment would include adults,
peers, and siblings with influence to learning new behaviors and the environment in which the...

The Ecological Systems Theory applies to different aspects of the lifespan due to the ability to apply
the five systems continuously throughout the life span. The chronosystem can transition and
change within one s life. The macrosytem can align with infancy, this system setting examines the
culture of the individual. The exosystem can align with childhood into adolescent stages due to this
systems connection with forming healthy attachments. The mesosystem aligns with relationships
throughout life and peer interaction, this can take place in adolescence and continue throughout
adulthood and change based on experiences, in which the individuals Microsystem evolves (Wong,
Hall, Justice Hernandez, 2015, p. 32 33). There can be cultural, ethical, and legal concerns
associated with this theory are somewhat intertwined. The possible assumption that if a child is
born poor, of ethnic minority, raised in a violent setting, and neglected by parents foster care
placement may lead to disruption within the child s chronosystem. This can lead to attachment
issues related to trauma, increased fight or flight reactions that may lead to legal issues, academic
challenges, and poor social skills. There is a possible ripple effect from life events and
socioeconomic status that could lead to changes with behavior in association with the child s

Symbolism Of The Black Power Salute
In a world that appropriates and change every symbol until it s reduced to a sad, emojified
shadow of its former self, how will the raised fist salute face retain its intensity? Once an image
of unity, has morphed into a nebulous anything. The raised fist has become shorthand for
indignation, whether sincere or ironic, playful or deadly serious. It s easily found on soapy
primetime TV, comedy shows as on a smartphone keyboard. Once a sign of solidarity for the
black civil rights movement, the raised fist, now used by everyone from Winona Ryder to
Donald Trump, has come to mean everything and nothing at the same time. Riots, protests,
demonstrations, rallies; pick the issue; police brutality, racism, etc.; it s a sure bet a certain
symbol will be ever present. According to special broadcasting service (SBS) article factbox:
what is the black power salute ; it states the raised fist, also known as the black power fist is a
logo generally associated with black nationalism and sometimes socialism. Its most widely
known usage is by the Black Panther Party in the 1960s. Amongst black rights activists,
especially in the United States it has been called the black power salute. The black power salute
is known as a political gesture. At the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, medal winners John

When a false belief involves a value judgment, it is regarded as a delusion only when the judgment

Euphemism In Communication
My intent of this essay is to describe the six major barriers that impact of influence effective
business communications. Actually, those barriers are more likely to be known as clichГ©, jargon,
slang, sexist and racist language, euphemisms and doublespeak, which may alter the interpretation
of messages as well as subject of relevance, and therefore create sometime a lack of attention and

What is ClichГ©? According to Random House Dictionary, ClichГ© is: a trite,

A Critique of the Surfer Dude Culture in Endless Summer
Surfer Dude Culture in Endless Summer a Critique Director Bruce Brown s Endless Summer
was released in the summer of 1966. The 1960s in America and around the world was a high
point for conflict and counterculture. Endless Summer is a documentary that showcases the
lifestyle and philosophy of surf culture. It is one of the first surf documentaries that represent the
culture and the sport. The film exposed audiences around the world to surfer and sparked
increased interest and participation in the sport and the culture of the surfer. This paper will
describe and interpret the surfer dude culture. As with understanding any culture, true
understanding comes from sensitivity, awareness, and lack of superficiality. To mainstream
American culture in the 1960s and today, surfer dudes look lazy. They look like they do not
have careers or ambitions outside of surfing the perfect wave. To conservative outsiders, surfer
dudes can look like they continually evade normative responsibilities in pursuit of great waves
around the world. They may even seem reckless because surfing, while exhilarating, is a very
dangerous sport. Surfer dudes, particularly big wave surfer dudes put their lives at risk each time
they go out for a surf. It may look like they are needlessly putting themselves in harm s way for the
sake of a fleeting thrill. These are some facts about surfer dude culture, but these facts do not

Lab Report On Search For Things On A Day
Julia Monaco
Cog Lab #1
Introduction: We use our attention to search for things on a day to day basis, whether complex or
basic. Items we are searching for are noticed easier when there are many of the same different
items (distractors) around the one we are searching for. It helps the item we are searching for stand
out. When there is more than one different, kind of distractor around the item (target) it makes it
harder for us to find to find it. Mackintosh (1975) states, in order to have selective attention we learn
to watch or ignore the stimuli depending on its relevance to what we are looking for. We also learn
inverse relationship between the different stimuli. If stimuli increase the other, stimuli will
decrease and vice versa. We use these ideas when we were looking for a certain stimulus and we
have to find it in different scenes of varied other stimuli (distractors). According to Treisman and
Gelade (1980), the theory tells us that attention has to be individually directed to each dependent
stimulus regardless of the distractions surrounding it. One stimulus has to be easily distinguishable
to be detected as different. In order to find the target crowded by the various distractors, we have to
make sure we specifically focus our attention on just finding that one stimulus and not the
distractors. According to Treisman (1982), when searching for the dependent stimulus in a scene
with other different stimuli, we scan the scene in groups rather than by each

The Church Is Apostolic In The Film A Man For All Seasons
he Church is Apostolic In the film a man For All Seasons I think that the most visible mark of
the church is The Church is Apostolic . The Mark of the Church that is most clearly present in
the film A Man for All Seasons is The Church is Apostolic. In the film we see that the faith of
Thomas is tested countless times. For example in the movie his faith is tested when King Henry
VII wants to be devoiced to his wife because she cannot have a son, but the pope says no. the
king turns to Thomas, but Thomas keeps his faith and follows what the pope says. The Mark of
The Church is Apostolic is demonstrated by King Henry and Cromwell opposing it as well as
Thomas defending it. This shows the Church is Apostolic due to the fact that the Pope is the head
of the Church, and that s the way Jesusmade it. The Church is also Apostolic because the foundation
of the Church was founded on the Apostles. And it is based on the teachings of the Apostles, and
also because of Apostolic Succession.

shows the successors of the Apostles are irreplaceable. The final example that the Church is
Apostolic is due to Apostolic Succession, which are the specific teachings from the Apostles that
are handed down all the way to modern bishops and the Pope. In the film the Duke asks St.
Thomas why he is being so stubborn about the whole pope situation. Thomas replies, He is also a

My Key Point For Success
Success is defined as the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. There is different techniques
people use to make sure they reach success. I have read some stories that all have dealt with
someone aiming for success. The stories I read are A Right To Choose Single Sex Education,
Next Term, We ll Mash You, Raising Smart Kids, A Walk To The Jetty, and ILE. There are four
techniques I use to be successful. The first is knowing my strengths and weaknesses. The second
thing I do to reach success is focusing on myself and not on others or what is going on around
me. Another technique for myself to be successful is to keep in mind what I really want and
working towards my goals. My last key point for success is working hard to make my own money.

Choosing a career field is one of life s most important and difficult decisions. But knowing what
your expectations are and then comparing them to the realities will help you make educated

of business. Businesses have to be prepared to adopt any change that takes place. That s why I
choose business Management/Law as my career field because my family already own businesses
like hotels and convenience stores. The main reason I choose this as my career field is because
there are a lots of great opportunities available for people with business management/law
degrees. Creating and running a successful business has always been a challenge where only the
strong can survive and in the world of modern business with new advance technology managers
or owners need good knowledge to top hard training with serious set of skills. My parents always
told me as successful business owners that to be successful in running your own business you
need to have more than just talent. You must have access to ocean full of resources which will
help you in making your business successful in the long run. For that you need the proper training
and knowledge that will help you select the right place of resources whether it is your career, job,
or business you own. This can be achieved by having a degree in business management/law.

Coconut Oil For A Saponification Of Organic Chemistry In...
Abstract Despite most organic chemistry laboratories utilizing coconut oil for a saponification
reaction in laboratories, little has been done to utilize an alternative, more superior, oil for the
reaction. An extremely common allergy to have is to be allergic to nuts, and more specifically
coconuts. When laboratory experiments are conducted using coconut oil it endangers the lives
of students and laboratory personal. Coconut oil is also more expensive than other oils that
could potentially be used in the chemical process. After researching alternatives, it has been
determined that vegetable oil would be the most viable alternative to coconut oil due to its low
cost as well as its fairly high reaction rate. If college and high school laboratories would switch to
a vegetable based oil instead of the more standard coconut oil, then students and staff with
allergies would be safer, the cost for the overall laboratory experiment would be lower, as well as a
consistently high reaction rate.
I.INTRODUCTION
The saponification reaction is one of the most basic foundational blocks for any chemistry major.
The reaction is typically around one hour and consists of the mixings of a fatty oil such as coconut
oil, vegetable oil, bio waste oils (used cooking oil), or other oils and a base such as sodium
hydroxide. The set up for the laboratory experiment is very important, you need to have a

Diabetes did not Prevent a Better Future for Sonia Sotomayor
Can a disease prevent you from chasing your dream? For Sonia it did not. In fact, it was her
motivation. Sonias disease is what pushed her for a better future.
Sonia Sotomayor had a somewhat typical Puerto Rican childhood. She was born in New York to
her parents Juan Luis Sotomayor and Celina Baez de Sotomayor. Her only sibling was her
younger brother, Juan Luis Sotomayor Jr. who was born when she was three years old. She
grew up reading Nancy Drew books and dreamed of being a police detective. (Bernier,) At age
eight, she was diagnosed with diabetes. The doctor told her that her diabetes would prevent her
from being what she wanted to be when she grew up, because her diabetes was so hard to treat at
the time ( The Last , 33). Not wanting to depend on her parents to keep herself alive, she learned
to give herself insulin shots every day in her belly as well as boiling the water to sterilize a
syringe and needle. Sonia had a strong desire for a good education and to get there she had to
learn the English language, but her parents only spoke Spanish and she strongly disliked the
English language (Barnes). A little hard work never hurt anyone. In 1972, Sonia graduated from
Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx ( Sonia Sotomayor ). Her hard work and dedication to
studying allowed her to win college scholarships to both Princeton University and Yale University.

Problems like Dry scalp, flaky scalp and dandruff are quite common and this leads to loss of hair.
Another issue you may face is the excessive production of sebum. This leads to oily scalp
resulting in hair thinning. Your hair growth is affected by this as the pores of your scalp get clogged.
Neem oil acts as a remedy for all this. All you need to do is heat the oil. Make sure that it does not
boil. Use the warm oil to massage your scalp. Leave it for an hour following which you can have a
bath in warm water. Neem oil can be applied twice a week.
You may not like the smell of it. However, it is very effective and makes your hair stronger and
healthier.
Boil the leaves
Boil a handful of neem leaves in water. Allow the water to boil until there is a change in its
colour. This happens because the medicinal value of the leaves is extracted by the water. You
may remove the leaves once the water cools down. Wash your hair with this water right after you
apply shampoo. This method helps you to get rid of dandruff. It also leads to the opening up of all
the clogged pores.

Government Conspiracy Theory
Government or Controlled Demolition The September 11 attacks were a series of four coordinated
terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al Qaeda in the United States on the morning of
Tuesday, September 11, 2001. They attacked the Twin Towers in New York City. There are different
conspiracy theories with the 9/11 attack but the most important conspiracy theory is that the
collapse of the twin towers were the result of controlled demolition by the government rather than
structural failure due to impact and fire. Now the question remains, was it controlled demolition or
was it terrorist attacking the World Trade Centeron purpose? This conspiracy theory revolves
around authorities knowing about the attackers and also guiding them to complete their terror
attack. None of the deaths would have happened without the deliberate unplugging of Americas air
defense. The twin tower did not fall of plane impacts or fire. People claim that jet fuel doesn t melt
steel beams. It was a controlled explosion by the government. Our mission is to expose the official
lies in a way that inspires the people to overcome denial and understand the truth. People want
answers to what happened that morning, devastation all around. Conspiracy theorists believe that
the government dismissed all the signs that were in their face because this attack was a controlled
demolition. Dr. Griffin concluded that, it is already possible to know, beyond a reasonable doubt,

Analysis Of The Book Job As A Work On Human Suffering...
Over the past centuries, scholars have regarded the book of Job as the seminal and quintessential
work on human suffering and divine sovereignty. It has influenced the perspectives of both authors
and philosophers for millennia. To some of the greatest writers of the past few centuries, the book
of Job is presumed as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, literary work, especially on the topic of
theodicy. When regarding the book of Job, Victor Hugo stated, Tomorrow, if all literature was to
be destroyed and it was left to me to retain one work only, I should save Job . Poet Alfred
Tennyson regarded the book of Job as the greatest poem, whether of ancient or modern literature .
United States senator Daniel Webster exemplifies the book of Job as a work of literary
genius...[it] is one of the most wonderful productions of any age or of any language .
The placement of Job as a masterful work of literature notwithstanding, the versatility and wide
acceptance of the book of Job is due primarily to its investigation of the problem of evil and the
desire to distinguish how the sovereignty of God contends with theodicy. In the end, the overall
message of Job is not the problem of evil or the effect evil has on humanity, but rather God s
sovereignty in the face of evil. As this paper discusses the sovereignty of God, it is alluding to the
ultimate power and authority God has over all things, including evil.
By scrutinizing the theological perspectives shared by Job and

Before leaving New York to go to France, Sedaris took a month long French course as to not be a

speaking in a rather casual matter, Sedaris tone is also affected by the use of humour and

What Is The Similarities Between Flowers For Algernon And...
Does knowledge really bring true happiness? In the story Flowers for Algernon Charlie Gordon is

mankind starting with when Adam and Eve were first placed here on earth. The evil of the

What are the Taxes on Social Security Disability Benefits?
Some Social Security disability beneficiaries may have to pay federal income taxes, while some
do not. Here are ways to determine whether or not you have to pay taxes on social security
disability benefits.
Taxes on Social Security Disability Insurance
The Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits may be taxable. To determine whether
your SSDI benefits are subject to federal income taxes, you have to take into consideration the
payments you receive under the program and your other sources of income.
If you are single and you are earning more than $25,000 per year including SSDI benefits, a
portion of your benefits will be taxable. If you are married and you and your spouse filed jointly,

If your benefits are subject to tax because your income is beyond the limit, disability benefits will
be taxed at the marginal tax rate. Meaning, you may not be paying taxes of 50% or 85% of your
disability benefits but pay about 10% to 15% on 50% to 80% of your benefits. If your income is
higher, in which case 85% of your disability benefits will be taxed, you may have to pay 35% tax
on your benefits.
There are also state taxes to consider. Most states don t tax disability benefits, but there are still
some that impose taxes using the federal government income brackets as listed above. These states

Comparing Women In Hinduism And Christianity
Throughout history women have been treated as objects. Although it has never been a better time
to be a woman, people today treat women with disrespect. A reason women are treated this way is
because of religion and the societies that surround them. Some religions have put women down and
morphed the image of women to fulfill their religious views. Two of these aforementioned religions
are Hinduism and Christianity. These religions have made out women to be lower than men in both
similar and different ways. Hinduism and Christianity put women in a negative light and it effects
the women in their communities.
Like most religions the perception of women has evolved over time. Sometimes it was for the
better other times it is for the worse. An example of this is exemplified in Hinduism. According to
A Concise Encyclopedia of Hinduism by Klaus K. Klostermaier, In Vedic times women were the
equals of men in almost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

1 Corinthians 11:3 *
But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman [is]
the man; and the head of Christ [is] God. (And many more)
Unfortunately, some people in the faith believe that women are automatically sinners because of
Eve eating the fruit and due to the aforementioned verses. Although the severity in the
discrimination isn t as overt as in Hinduism, there are still issues that affect Christian women today.
The history of Christianity would have had a very different development if it had not been for the

Proper positioning of patient is one of the most significant components of physical therapy. Safe

The Modern City of Paris
In this essay, I intend to look at Question 1, The Modern City 1, Paris. I have decided to choose
and examine Maison de Verre (1928 32) by architect, Pierre Chareau which is situated in Rue
Saint Guillaume, Paris. Maison de Verre, also known as House of Glass was built in the era of
Modern Movement and of course, it somehow has a strong relation with the early modernist
issues materially, structurally and spatially. I will first explore how the house relates to the
industrialisation issue in general but to be specific how Chareau s interest and decision to use
certain materials like steel really brought forward the sense of the industrial design of the house.
Then, I will talk about the relation of the house with the issue of mechanisation and how successful
Chareau was in portraying a set of machines to live in with amazing planning since the very
beginning. His concept of mobility in most of the mechanical designs really captured my interest.
Last but not least, I will discuss the issue of hygienein this house as I think that it is somehow a
response to the spread of diseases in the twentieth century and people started to think more about
the idea of cleanliness. At the end of this essay, I will conclude it with a summary of the three
modernist issues which will be discussed later and the influence of Maison de Verre on the
following architects generation.
As mentioned earlier, industrialisation is one of the early modernist issues which relates
significantly with

Narcissism Analysis
Narcissism is defined as excessive or erotic interest in oneself and one s physical appearance.
This trait can be seen in many people and throughout all cultures. In many cases, narcissism is
recognized in only those that seek a position of power. However this trait can be recognized
differently between separate individuals . In the Tedx video The Psychology of Narcissism, Keith
Campbell, explains the psychology of the narcissistic personality disorderin a descriptive speech.
Campbell was able to provide a captivating attention grabber, clear examples of the different
types of narcissism, and a great overall speech. Campbell begins the video telling the audience a
story about the Greek myth of a man named Narcissus. Narcissus was a man that had a self
inflated view of himself. In the myth, Narcissus saw his reflection in a lake, fell in love with it, fell

These two groups are grandiose and vulnerable narcissists. He describing the more common type,
a grandiose narcissists, first. Grandiose narcissists is characterized by extroversion, dominance
and attention seeking. He connects this definition to examples that include politicians, cultural
leaders and celebrities. He then explains that grandiose narcissism can also be seen in individuals
that do it for more positive reasons such as seeking self improvement in reaching their full
potential or helping others as well. Campbell includes another form that is categorized as the
reserved narcissist. He explains that these types of people tend to be more quiet and reserved but
are easily threatened. By using multiple examples, the audience is able to easily recognize this
group in their personal lives. Finally, he connects the two traits and explains that, in extreme cases,
this trait can transform into a full blown personality disorder. To wrap things up,Campbell explains

Modern Drama And Modern Criticism
Nothing is harder to bring to life for a modern reader than the theatre of the past, Michael Booth
states in his book, English Melodrama, as an opening to his chapter the character of melodrama .
Booth resumes by saying that to reconstruct extinct theaters, to inhabit them once again with noisy
audiences, and to light them with flickering candles, harsh hissing gas, and soft multi colored
pools of limelight picking out actors long forgotten, acting in old fashioned ways in front of
creaking flats and jerking wings, is to make dead eyes see and dead ears hear. After research on
this topic, I realized that the task is even more difficult when the kind of theatre under discussion is
now extinct, and toward which modern dramaand modern criticism is unsympathetic. This is the
case with the melodramaof the nineteenth century, the most popular dramatic form of its age, a
form that depended more on graphic exhilaration and the thrill of the moment qualities almost
beyond critical recall than anything ever written for the stage. Now it is all gone, and I will
hopefully through this essay bring some of this back to life. Yet because of its energy and
vividness, something of its nature can be imparted. Melodrama had never been rated highly by
dramatic critics or historians, whose most contemptuous word is melodramatic. To describe and
raise it out of the neglect and contumely where it has generally remained all this century, to show it
so that it can at least be

The first paper is due by Monday, April 9, 11:59 p.m. You MAY use
sources outside of the Liberty Search Engine (and are encouraged to do so). Also you may use
scholarly books and not just journal articles. You should avoid using generic websites that do
not appear scholarly in nature. A good rule of thumb is that if a website does not have an author,
it is not a good source. Good online material has also usually been published in print at some point.
Google Scholar and JSTOR are great places to search, as well as the online encyclopedias I ve

which correspond to a number at the bottom of the page (footnotes). The required bibliographic
information about the work you are quoting and/or taking ideas from is written next to the footnote
number at the bottom of the page. Then, at the very end of the paper, the bibliography page
summarizes all of the bibliographic information used throughout the entire paper. Turabian is the
standard citation style for religion and history courses at most American colleges, including
LUO.

LUO has provided a very helpful Turabian guide, including the proper way to record
various types of sources. Pay attention specifically to the sections on Footnotes and Bibliography:

The writing of Letters to a Young Poet and the story of Black Swan Green are similar in their

The Darfur Crisis Essay
Introduction The Responsibility to Protect (R2P) is a concept that has its roots in the philosophy of
Human Security . Human Security can be defined as focusing on the individual human being as the
referent object of security as distinct from the nation state. R2P and Human Security have gathered
impetus in the international community both in academic and policy spheres with a view to these
concepts being justifiers for humanitarian intervention.
Taking realism as the security argument that deals directly with state security, it is accepted that
nation states have valid concerns in protecting their borders and populations within from external

A Brief History of R2P in Policy
Before relating the R2P to the Darfur Crisis it is important to understand the fundamental tenants of
the R2P debate in relation to humanitarian intervention and the repercussions for state sovereignty.
The R2P concept can trace its modern origin to the address given by former UN Secretary General
Kofi Annan, to the General Assembly in 1999 putting forward the challenge of preventing another
Rwanda.
In response to this challenge the Canadian Government sponsored the foundation of the
International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty (ICISS) in 2000 . Its report The
Responsibility to Protect was released the following year. The report outlines that the main message
of R2P is that sovereignty entails responsibility. Responsibility to protect its citizens from genocide
and other gross violations of human rights . Should any particular nation fail to uphold these
protections, then under the R2P concept responsibility devolves to the international community .
This of course comes with a significant moral weight. The R2P report from the ICISS effectively
changed the conceptual thinking from Humanitarian Intervention to Responsibility to Protect
effectively

People who have the disorder have their glucose levels lower known as hypoglycemia. Studies
revealed that this is caused by mutations in the gene for SGLT 2 which gave an opinion that SGLT
2 could be turned off, decreasing blood sugars without causing hypoglycemia. This made it to be a
good target for SGLT 2 inhibitors. This symporter mainly targets the kidneys, reducing the blood
glucose by eliminating excess sugar through urine. Mechanism of Action Sodium glucose co
transporter 2 (SGLT2), present in the proximal renal tubules, is important for the reabsorption of
filtered glucose from the tubular lumen. Canagliflozin acts by inhibiting SGLT2 co transporter. It
diminishes reabsorption of filtered glucose and cuts off the renal limit for glucose (RTG), by
additionally expanding the urinary glucose release (UGE). FIG: Mechanism of action of action of

It is the beginning of the first century A.D. Seneca, chief Roman tragic writer and philosopher in
the time, who just came back from exile is summoned to the Roman emperor s castle by the old
emperor Claudius wife Julia Agrippina. He is assigned to tutor her son, Nero.
Nero is a spoiled little twenty year old fat freak hungry for gladiator ism. He hates his step father,
Claudius for he always treats him as a good for nothing child, which he is. Where from he feels
indebted to his mother who seemingly gives him full attention and has always made him feel as

Unable to inhibit his excitement, he meets with his best friend, Hadrian, to share the thrill with
a person who understands. Hadrian is very much into competition and games of pride. Son of a
wealthy man, he spends his time playing his money away and getting women to entertain him.
He is known for his devilish nature and clever gossiping as a means to get what he wants. Nero
suspects him for sleeping with his mother for he often meets with her to play, he says. As to
avoid stupid accusations, Hadrian suggests that he and Nero create a small high quality contest
the winner of which would get the title of the best life taker in all Rome. Each one of them
would go on his own at night wearing a disguise and surprise someone and stab him to death. At
first doubtful but then triggered by the idea, Nero starts thinking about the name he will give
himself by the time his victory is pronounced. He sets off the game with an air of contentment as
Hadrian adds more flavor to the contest by demanding a little golden star for each life he takes.
The back story is, Nero desperately attempting to get Precia, the advisor of the emperor s
daughter in his bed. He is madly in love with her but she is in love with someone else she won t
announce for she fears for him to get killed. Precia s confidant, Sera, who is also her slave knows

The Effects Of Television On Television Messages
Cultivation theory suggests that exposure to television messages can be an important factor
influencing the behavior of individuals who spend a significant amount of time with the medium
(Gerbner, 1969; Shanahan Morgan, 1999)
History
George Gerbner, in 1976, founded the Cultural Indicators project, which estimated that the average
American child will have watched 8,000 murders on television by the age of twelve. Gerbner is so
alarmed about the baneful effects of TV that he describes them in terms of fascism.
Gerbner s cultivation theory says that television has become the main source of storytelling today.
Those who watch four or more hours a day are labeled heavy television viewers and those who
view less than four hours per day, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although there may be potential benefits from viewing some television shows, such as the
promotion of positive aspects of social behavior (e.g., manners, friendship, cooperation, altruism,
etc.), many adverse health conditions can also result.
Respondents for this study were viewers and nonviewers from all regions of the United States. 430
individuals respondents were recruited through the national media to take an online survey.
Because television free individuals comprise a very small percentage of the general population,
advertisements were made in national media establishments likely to attract participants who do not
watch television. These establishments included a large nationally syndicated popular magazine
and the web site for the TV Turnoff Network. Survey respondents were divided into three groups:
(a) television free, (b) viewers who watch in accordance with AAP recommendations and (c)
frequent viewers (over two hours per day).
Hammermeister found that television free individuals show a stronger association with enhanced
psychosocial health profiles than members of the moderate viewing group (i.e., the group following
AAP guidelines) was not supported for men or women. Watching television less than two hours per
day provides the same relation with psychosocial health as being television free in this sample. This
is consistent with cultivation studies examining behavioral effects of television viewing and

My Very Good Friend From High School, Maeleigh, And Her...
I interviewed my very good friend from high school, Maeleigh, and her recent girlfriend, Anna.
Maeleigh and Anna have completely different coming out stories at this point in their lives.
Growing up with Maeleigh, I was able to see how her life was affected by being gay. I know
more about her lifestyle and story than most would and it was difficult for her to figure herself
out. Mae was very confused and distraught as she got older and she started to realize she was not
the so called normal little girl. She had to learn to except herself before she could tell anyone or
most importantly come out to her parents. As for Anna, I have no personal ties to her. Maeleigh met
Anna this year at school; they both attend Manchester University and play on the softball team.
They eventually got together and developed a relationship. Everything between the two is new and
they are learning more about each others stories and how they dealt with coming out. Coming out is
one of the most difficult aspects of being a lesbian. They have spent an extreme amount of time
playing out in their minds how to tell this news to their parents. The scariest part, both have said,
would have to be the thought of being rejected by their families. Maeleigh had known she was
different from everyone since she was in 5th grade. She began to find herself having crushes on
girls rather than boys. She said in 5th grade she was terrified, not knowing why she felt this way.
Not knowing the reasons why she felt

Essay about Peyote and Native American Culture
Peyote and Native American Culture
Peyote was originally described in 1560, however it was not until the middle of the nineteenth
century that botanists were able to conduct field research and correctly classify the cactus
(Anderson, 1980). Field studies have concluded that there are two distinct populations of peyote
which represent two species. The first and most common, Lophophora williamsii extends from
southern Texas reaching south to the Mexicanstate of San Luis Potosi. The second and least
common of the two species is Lophophora difusa, which occurs in the dryer terrain of the Mexican

Also it should be noted that depending on the tribe or group leader, elements of Christianity figure
prominently through the ceremony (www. peyote. net). The majority of the peyotism practiced in
the United States can be identified with the Native American Church (NAC). There are many
divisions of the NAC, and each chapter is composed of several auxiliary chapters or moons, Each
chapter has officers who are trained to carry out the various tasks associated with the peyote
ceremony. The most prominent position is that of Road Chief who is responsible for governing the
main elements of the meeting as well as leading the participants down The Peyote Road or the way
of learning to live life well (www.peyote.net), There are other offices held in the ceremony such as
Cedar Man, Fire Man, Drum Man, and Earth Mother, and while many chapters have their own
variances of the ceremony, many share common ceremonial elements along with the adherence to
the practice of avoiding alcohol, devotion to family, and general moral living (www.peyote.net).
The ritualistic practice of peyote and shamanism, are commonly linked, however in the case of the
Mescalero Apache Tribe the use of peyote in shaman rites had anything but a transcendental effect
which eventually lead to the abolishment of peyote from shamanistic ceremony. A lack of harmony

Chairman and Chief Executive of leading European pharmaceutical enterprises, Nourtis:
Profit in pharmaceutical industries is not possible without patents and without patents innovation,
research and development of new life saving drugs and medicines suffers (Winestock and
Cooper, 2001, p. 1). Without incentive Research and Development (R amp;D) cannot be done,
and this incentive is provided by strong IPRs. According to Grabowski, H. (2002) the total cost
of doing researching and developing new drug along with the costs of capital and failed R amp;D
is more than US$400 million. In the absence of strong implementation of IPRs and R amp;D costs,
investors will not be ready to invest in R amp;D.
According to Dam (1994, P. 247), the copping of intangible assets are very easy and this will result
in free copying of innovation by imitators at a low cost. Patent which is one of the way of IPRs,
helps to motivate innovation and R amp;D by giving assurance to innovator total and exclusive
rights, these rights include manufacturing right, selling or maintaining, distributing or licensing to
distribute the invention. If patent laws in not available in pharmaceutical market no investors will
ready to do investment in R amp;D and the risk is so high that competitor will copy the good and
services with less risky investment (Ryan and Shanebrook, 2004, pp. 15, 16).

  • 2. How the United States Must Handle China and Its Military... There is a delicate balancing act a country must be aware of when it is a military superpower. A superpower must exercise extreme care to protect their economic superiority, advance their foreign policies, and project their military might all while working to advance the global system. Enticing China to become a responsible pillar of the global system will be one of the greatest challenges of coming decades for the United Statesand the Western world particularly since it appears for the moment China is uninterested in playing such a role. This is the unique situation the United States and China find themselves in, with so many mutual interests, and as the global economy begins to slow, challenges such as: China s increase in military... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Bergsten, unless China is careful such a regional grouping would almost certainly trigger a sharp backlash from the U.S. and EU, as well as from numerous developing countries, who view this as discrimination against them. The test for the U.S. is how to deal with this matter while still fostering positive relations with its Chinese s trading partner. The National Security Strategy released by the White House states, We welcome a China that takes on a responsible leadership role in working with the United States and the international community to advance priorities like economic recovery. My concern is whether this is a goal shared by China due to their numerous interactions with other nations in the region. When it comes to the global economy, this much is true: 2009 was China s year. In the first decade of the 21st century, China established itself as the world s workshop. The next decade (if things go right) could see China emerge as the world s leading exporter of capital and military muscle. China (not including Hong Kong) has become the largest trading partner of Taiwan and the second largest trading partner of Japan. The hope is increased economic trade between these nations will elevate some of the political tension recently experienced. The Peoples Republic of China (PRC) has become South Korea s largest foreign investment destination and largest export market. According to Taiwanese and Korean data, in ... • 3. Franklins Road To Humility Essay Ben s Autobiography begins in humility and ends in humility. He is born into a modest family being the youngest son of the youngest son for five generations back. He finishes part two with the modesty of an accomplished elder. However, in between it is full of arrogance and pride. During his early years (part 1 of The Autobiography), Ben s diligence and thirst for knowledge continuously put him in comforting situations. Unfortunately he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He proceeds to his brothers place of business to show off all these things and before he leaves he buys the journey men a round of drinks. Where is the humility in that? His brother later said he was insulted so much in front of his workers that he could never forgive or forget. Ben thought he was on top of the world when he came back to visit his family. But before he knew it, his father declined to assist him and he was stuck in England with no money and no job. That was one of the lessons he needed to learn in order to reach real humility in his later years. One day you are dining with royalty and have everything you need, the next day you are looking for a place to day, lonely, and living on bread and water. Ben uses the words reality and appearance twice in the autobiography. The first time it is in regards to him being efficient and hardworking. But he goes on to show how he is hardworking in the eyes of the citizens. He says that, in order to secure my credit and character as a tradesman... I would dress plainly and was never seen in places of idle Diversion, and I would never go out fishing or shooting (page 367). This proves the appearance of his hardworking efficiency. He doesn t say anything about what he really wanted to do in regards to fishing and shooting etc. On page 384 we see the second mention of reality and appearance. It was these few paragraphs that convinced me Benjamin Franklin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Worry not because every time is the right time to start exercising. It s okay if you don t like going to the gym because, luckily, there re less intense ways of kicking in some workouts. For example, yoga. I m sure you ve heard of yoga, maybe you even know someone who goes to yoga classes every week. Nonetheless, yoga is the type of workout everyone should try at least once. • 5. Building A Sustainable Plan For A Business Model Built to make profit, businesses/firms believed making money was their sole purpose and their business model made everything subservient to money and corporate greed. Only now, have we begun to see and understand how irresponsible we have become and those business models may make money but they are killing the environment. Here we will look at four businesses and their different models that center around sustainability, caring about mother earth, and still able to make money. The framework we will evaluate these organizations is through the triple bottom line method, process improvement, economic development, and giving back (altruism), as well as, build a sustainable plan for a company that had not implemented one in the past and is failing to accept any environmental responsibility. Beginning with the triple bottom line approach, we see this phenomenon discards the notion of top line revenue/bottom line profitand loss, we see companies are responsible for three bottom lines: people, planet and profit. Triple bottom line companies are responsibly sustainable; they benefit the communities, facilitate the development of better products and services, and contribute to society. The question now becomes why not every company is adjusting their business model to the triple bottom line. Companies like Patagonia are onboard with this idea and they have been very profitable and highly regarded on Wall Street. Companies like BASF and DuPont developed well defined that ... • 6. Personality And Theory Of Personality Essay Personality Examined Personality is deeply complexing subject that cannot be easily summed up. There is no concrete right answer, or only one way to evaluate any given subject, as every aspect of personality has more than one view point or angle. Famous psychologists such as Freud, Adler, Jung, Erickson, Eysenck, and Skinner all shaped and conducted the research that would come together and be taught to generations as the foundations of personality and the theory of personality. To better understand the idea of personality, we are going to examine the six different cornerstones of personality. They consist of Nature versus Nurture, The Unconscious, You of the Self, Development, Motivation and Maturation. In this, no one theory is more valid than the other, and no one research has more validity than the other. In this paper each cornerstone will be examined using scholarly research. Foundations of Personality Nature Versus Nurture Before the concept of nature versus nurture can be broken down and examined, first there must be a proper understanding of both terms. In context of nature versus nurture, nature refers to a person s biological factors, such as the hereditary factors passed down from the genes of their birth parents. Whereas nurture refers to an individual s personal experience and environment that shapes them into who they are, and gave them a form of identity. Montag et al (2016), work suggests that while in some cases nurture can be an influence on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Differences Between Stop And Terry Stop When it comes to stop and frisk and Terry Stop, can be both good thing and bad thing for our country. The good is if officer take there time and observe we can help prevent a lot of crime. On the downside, these officers mostly target African American and Hispanic males. Stop and frisk takes place when an officer feels it s some type of suspicion about a citizen, they then stop you and frisk if they feel is necessary. But not all of those stop and frisk are good, the statistics in New York show that 9 out of10 stop and frisk are innocent. So what does this tell you? That maybe as officers we should try a different method or a different type of citizen to stop and frisk. The Terry Stop, however, is a bit different. Terry Stop came from a case that took place in 1968 in Ohio; about a man who was stopped by an officer who felt Mr. Terry was behaving suspiciously with two other friends. After reading and learning about the Terry vs. Ohio case I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Fourth Amendment gives that the privilege of the general population to be secure in their people, houses, papers, and impacts, against irrational pursuits and seizures, should not be disregarded. This boundless right of 9*9 individual security has a place as much with the native in the city of our urban areas with regards to the property holder closeted in his examination to discard his mystery issues (Terry vs. Ohio). There are three main focuses when dealing with Terry stop: movement, length of detention, and intrusiveness. Terry stop is also a good and bad way to decrease the crime, but it s mostly just the approach and how aggressive officers, detectives, and sheriffs are when drawing closer to the citizen to ... Cutting Edge Korean Slides From Middle Korean Cutting edge Korean slides from Middle Korean, which thus dives from Old Korean, whiplummets from the dialect talked in Prehistoric Korea (named Proto Korean), whose nature is wrangled, to a limited extent since Korean hereditary inceptions are dubious. A connectch ion of Korean (together with its wiped out relatives which shape the Koreanic family) with Japonic dialects has been proposed by etymologists like William George Aston and Samuel Martin. Roy Andrew Miller and others proposed or bolstered the incorporation of Koreanic and Japonic dialects in the implied Altaic family (a full scale family that would contain Tungusic, Mongolian and Turkic families), now not acknowledged by generally masters. Chinese characters touched base in Korea together with Buddhism amid the pre Three Kingdoms period and stayed as the sole script for composing Korean through over a thousand years (Chinese script adjusted for Korean is known as hanja) alongside the phonetic scripts that were later imagined. Just special elites were taught for fluidly perused and think of them, however, as the vast majority of the populace was ignorant. In the fifteenth century, King Sejong the Great felt that the hanja were not sufficient to compose Korean and this was the reason for its exceptionally limited use, so (with a conceivable help of the Hall of Worthies) he built up an alphabetic featural composing framework referred to today as hangul, which was intended to either help in perusing hanja or supplant ... Paradise Bent follows Heather Croall learning about the Fa afaine s of Somoa everyday life, past, and place in their culture. Fa afaine are Somoan boys who are brought up as girls, and act as girls in everyday Samoan life. The first aspect of the video I found interesting was how it seemed that the Fa afaine are a new trend and sect of Samoan society. What I found interesting was how the arrival of the European missioniaries correlated with the explosion of transvestism. What also fascinated me was how after the European s came, the girls of Samoa seemed to be overshadowed and replaced. I found it intersting how the traditional Samoan female roles of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I thought it was strange how the western, and more imporantly Christian culture, led to Samoan women being forced to wear breast coverings and mandatory dresses. This was because they percieved them to be too revealing and sexual. One aspect of the video that I found surprising was how Samoan religion supported the Fa afaine. Christianity is the official religion of Samoa. A core value of Christianity is the close sexual bond and relationship between a man and woman. I found it shcoking how accepting the Samoan minsiters and pastors were of the Fa afaine. I was also suprised how the Fa afaine were allowed to dress as women while attending church. A second aspect of the video that I found surprising was how accepting the enitre communtity was of the Fa afaine and the open roles they played in everyday Samoan society. I found it shocking how at five years old, Blondie s mom gave him dresses to wear and openly praised his siblings when they referred to him as their sister . His mom allowed and praised him for wearing lava lava under his armpits and shaving his entire body to mimic that of a woman. What was also suprising was how after his mom s actions, Blondie began viewing himself as a female and saw the women of the community as his role models. Social And Political Movements Of The Progressive Era Throughout America s history, there have been numerous social and political movements that have had a profound and lasting impact on American culture. Movements such as the Civil Rights Movement and the Women s Suffrage Movement have influenced and shaped American ideals and beliefs. These movements were typically driven by a cause. From the 1890s to the 1920s, a period of social and political reform flourished in America. This was driven by the desire to eliminate corruption in the government. It wasn t seen as a major issue until 1898. In 1898, there were reports in which stated that Armour Co. supplied rotten canned beef to the U.S. Army. This occurred during the Spanish American War. Many troops became ill as a result which meant that they were unable to fight. This devastating event captured the attention of the public and brought awareness to the issue of foods being processed in unsanitary conditions. As a result of this, the Senate formed the Pure Food Investigating Committee in 1899. This committee held hearings in which it was discovered that the processed foods were adulterated and unsafe for consumers. Amidst all of this controversy, journalists began to express their opinions in their articles. They played a major role in spreading new information to the public. Journalists criticized the work of Beef Trust businesses, which were a group of five large meatpacking companies. Journalists would also talk about the unsanitary conditions in which the meat was being produced and how these companies would try to avoid inspection. • 12. Ecological Systems Theory By Urie Bronfenbrenner Ecological Systems Theory The Ecological Systems Theory was founded by Urie Bronfenbrenner. This theory focuses on the impact of the environment on a child s overall development. The identifying characteristics of Bronfenbrenner s theory are the five systems used to organize external influences within a child s development. These systems are the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, and chronosystem. Each system is aligned with specific interaction levels. • 21. Lab Report On Search For Things On A Day Julia Monaco Cog Lab #1 Introduction: We use our attention to search for things on a day to day basis, whether complex or basic. Items we are searching for are noticed easier when there are many of the same different items (distractors) around the one we are searching for. It helps the item we are searching for stand out. When there is more than one different, kind of distractor around the item (target) it makes it harder for us to find to find it. Mackintosh (1975) states, in order to have selective attention we learn to watch or ignore the stimuli depending on its relevance to what we are looking for. We also learn inverse relationship between the different stimuli. If stimuli increase the other, stimuli will decrease and vice versa. We use these ideas when we were looking for a certain stimulus and we have to find it in different scenes of varied other stimuli (distractors). According to Treisman and Gelade (1980), the theory tells us that attention has to be individually directed to each dependent stimulus regardless of the distractions surrounding it. One stimulus has to be easily distinguishable to be detected as different. In order to find the target crowded by the various distractors, we have to make sure we specifically focus our attention on just finding that one stimulus and not the distractors. According to Treisman (1982), when searching for the dependent stimulus in a scene with other different stimuli, we scan the scene in groups rather than by each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Mark of the Church that is most clearly present in the film A Man for All Seasons is The Church is Apostolic. In the film we see that the faith of Thomas is tested countless times. For example in the movie his faith is tested when King Henry VII wants to be devoiced to his wife because she cannot have a son, but the pope says no. the king turns to Thomas, but Thomas keeps his faith and follows what the pope says. The Mark of The Church is Apostolic is demonstrated by King Henry and Cromwell opposing it as well as Thomas defending it. This shows the Church is Apostolic due to the fact that the Pope is the head of the Church, and that s the way Jesusmade it. Abstract Despite most organic chemistry laboratories utilizing coconut oil for a saponification reaction in laboratories, little has been done to utilize an alternative, more superior, oil for the reaction. An extremely common allergy to have is to be allergic to nuts, and more specifically coconuts. When laboratory experiments are conducted using coconut oil it endangers the lives of students and laboratory personal. Coconut oil is also more expensive than other oils that could potentially be used in the chemical process. After researching alternatives, it has been determined that vegetable oil would be the most viable alternative to coconut oil due to its low cost as well as its fairly high reaction rate. If college and high school laboratories would switch to a vegetable based oil instead of the more standard coconut oil, then students and staff with allergies would be safer, the cost for the overall laboratory experiment would be lower, as well as a consistently high reaction rate. Over the past centuries, scholars have regarded the book of Job as the seminal and quintessential work on human suffering and divine sovereignty. It has influenced the perspectives of both authors and philosophers for millennia. To some of the greatest writers of the past few centuries, the book of Job is presumed as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, literary work, especially on the topic of theodicy. When regarding the book of Job, Victor Hugo stated, Tomorrow, if all literature was to be destroyed and it was left to me to retain one work only, I should save Job . Poet Alfred Tennyson regarded the book of Job as the greatest poem, whether of ancient or modern literature . United States senator Daniel Webster exemplifies the book of Job as a work of literary genius...[it] is one of the most wonderful productions of any age or of any language . The placement of Job as a masterful work of literature notwithstanding, the versatility and wide acceptance of the book of Job is due primarily to its investigation of the problem of evil and the desire to distinguish how the sovereignty of God contends with theodicy. In the end, the overall message of Job is not the problem of evil or the effect evil has on humanity, but rather God s sovereignty in the face of evil. Me Talk Pretty One Day Sedaris Learning a foreign language can be quite a difficult task, which is why it is important to have a comfortable learning environment, as well a good teacher who can encourage and help you to keep you motivated in your studies. In his essay Me Talk Pretty One Day , David Sedaris seems to be lacking both in his quest to become fluent in the French language. Before leaving New York to go to France, Sedaris took a month long French course as to not be a total beginner when attending class in France. On the first day, Sedaris is quite nervous, as he does not feel very confident in his French, especially not when observing the other students, who despite their nationalities spoke in what to him seemed like perfect French. For example, [...] they were all young, attractive, and well dressed, causing me to feel not unlike Pa Kettle trapped backstage after a fashion show (p. 1 l. 12) and had front teeth the size of tombstones. In the story The Garden Of Eden, Adam and Evewere chosen to be the first humans. They chose to bite from the tree of knowledge and disobey God. They were punished to live life and then die. • 40. Comparing Women In Hinduism And Christianity Throughout history women have been treated as objects. Although it has never been a better time to be a woman, people today treat women with disrespect. A reason women are treated this way is because of religion and the societies that surround them. Some religions have put women down and morphed the image of women to fulfill their religious views. Two of these aforementioned religions are Hinduism and Christianity. These religions have made out women to be lower than men in both similar and different ways. Hinduism and Christianity put women in a negative light and it effects the women in their communities. Like most religions the perception of women has evolved over time. Sometimes it was for the better other times it is for the worse. An example of this is exemplified in Hinduism. I have decided to choose and examine Maison de Verre (1928 32) by architect, Pierre Chareau which is situated in Rue Saint Guillaume, Paris. Maison de Verre, also known as House of Glass was built in the era of Modern Movement and of course, it somehow has a strong relation with the early modernist issues materially, structurally and spatially. I will first explore how the house relates to the industrialisation issue in general but to be specific how Chareau s interest and decision to use certain materials like steel really brought forward the sense of the industrial design of the house. Then, I will talk about the relation of the house with the issue of mechanisation and how successful Chareau was in portraying a set of machines to live in with amazing planning since the very beginning. His concept of mobility in most of the mechanical designs really captured my interest. Last but not least, I will discuss the issue of hygienein this house as I think that it is somehow a response to the spread of diseases in the twentieth century and people started to think more about the idea of cleanliness. At the end of this essay, I will conclude it with a summary of the three modernist issues which will be discussed later and the influence of Maison de Verre on the following architects generation. • 44. Modern Drama And Modern Criticism Nothing is harder to bring to life for a modern reader than the theatre of the past, Michael Booth states in his book, English Melodrama, as an opening to his chapter the character of melodrama . Booth resumes by saying that to reconstruct extinct theaters, to inhabit them once again with noisy audiences, and to light them with flickering candles, harsh hissing gas, and soft multi colored pools of limelight picking out actors long forgotten, acting in old fashioned ways in front of creaking flats and jerking wings, is to make dead eyes see and dead ears hear. After research on this topic, I realized that the task is even more difficult when the kind of theatre under discussion is now extinct, and toward which modern dramaand modern criticism is unsympathetic. This is the case with the melodramaof the nineteenth century, the most popular dramatic form of its age, a form that depended more on graphic exhilaration and the thrill of the moment qualities almost beyond critical recall than anything ever written for the stage. Now it is all gone, and I will hopefully through this essay bring some of this back to life. Yet because of its energy and vividness, something of its nature can be imparted.
