The Fall Of A City By Alden Nowlan
The birth of a child is a truly magical occurrence. Once a baby s gender is determined, either through
ultrasound, or from the brief examination of a doctor, this small branch of a family s inheritance, has
already been designated with countless burdensome requirements to follow within their limited world.
In regards to historical stereotypes, timid, little girls wear pink skirts and hair bows. These girls grow
up to become housewives, who cook, clean and babysit the children. Meanwhile, boisterous young
boys have the whole world to conquer and rule. The multiple responsibilities of a man are deemed as
very important since he is the person who earns the family income. In contrast, Teddy, the main
character of The Fall of a City by Canadian author Alden Nowlan, is a very inventive and quiet child,
who uses his imagination to build himself a utopian escape in his dark, gloomy attic. He uses scrap
paper to create the citizens of Upalia and cardboard to fabricate the radiant city of Theodoresburg.
Eventually, Teddy s aunt worries about what Teddy is constantly doing, hidden away from his family.
His uncle heads to the attic only to discover the shocking revelation that Teddy has been playing with
paper dolls and a doll house. Teddy s uncle laughs and teases Teddy mercilessly, culminating in Teddy
to go against his accomplishments and lose an important part of his individuality. Furthermore, the
conflict between Teddy and his uncle is a manifestation of how many adults, such as

The Human Eye Has No Blind Spot
There are approximately 8.5 million known species in the world. Each one sees differently. A few
species vision is more advanced than others; as humans we are very limited to what we can see
compared to other animals. Birds of prey have the ability to see extreme detail at far distances. A bee
has hundreds of six sided lens and together the lenses form a single image. And an octopus s eye has
no blind spot. Each of these species eyesight has evolved overtime to adapt to survival needs.
Most individuals take for granted their ability to see. Eyesight is a major connection to the outside
world; around 80 percent of impressions are through sight, meaning that only 20 percent are from the
other four senses. The human eye has evolved over time to turn into what it is today. Through human s
needs for survival, the eye has changed to suit humans. Two of the most common types of eyes found
in nature are the camera type eye and compound eyes; the human eye fits into camera type eyes
because just like a camera lens focuses light onto something, the eye does a similar thing. The cornea,
a structure in the front of the eye, focuses light onto the retina, and behind the cornea, is a colored
membrane called the iris. It has an adjustable circular opening, the pupil, which expands or contracts
to determine the amount of light that enters the eye.
The eye did not always function this way. To get to this point the human eye has evolved. But scientist
debate how the eye has evolved.

Gardner s Pedophilia
Gardner believed that all human sexual paraphilias, such as pedophilia, sadism, rape, necrophilia,
zoophilia, coprophilia, and other paraphilias, served a beneficial purpose in a species survival by
enhanc[ing] the general level of sexual excitation in society. Many of his misogynistic and pedophilic
viewpoints have been intertwined into the development of his rational behind PAS and its treatment.
In regards to women, Gardner argued that a woman s physiology and conditioning make[] them
potential[] masochistic rape victims who may gain pleasure from being beaten, bound, and otherwise
made to suffer, as the price they are willing to pay for gaining the gratification of receiving the sperm.
Furthermore, Gardner blamed a father s sexual molestation of his child on the mother, who he
suggested was not satisfying the sexual needs of her husband, which resulted in him turning to his
child for sexual gratification. Gardner claimed that mothers, who alleged allegations of a child s
sexual abuse, where satisfying their own sexually inhibited needs by visualizing the child with their
father. Gardner claimed that pedophilia is a widespread and accepted practice among literally billions

Vladimir Lenin And The Soviet Revolution
Vladimir Lenin has proven to be a difficult figure to place in history. Some choose to view him as one
of the most influential political leaders in history, while others allow him to fade off into the past.
Lenin s image also greatly depends on where one lives. In the western half of the world, Lenin is
viewed as a man of destruction, and Winston Churchill called him The Grand Repudiator. In other
parts of the world, he is viewed as a man who tried to make the best out of a failing situation. Lenin
was a revolutionary intellectual who establish the Bolshevik Party (later renamed the Communist
Party). He was the leader of the Bolshevik Revolution, and, therefore, began the first government of
the Soviet Union. Lenin became leader of the USSR in 1922 and ruled until his death in 1924, when
Joseph Stalin assumed power. Though many argue that Lenin started one of the worst governments in
history, Russian Communism, Lenin actually provided a solution for the troubling times in Russia. In
the 1890, Lenin quit his job as a lawyer and moved to St. Petersburg where he became involved with a
group of radicals that supported the ideas of Karl Marx. In 1903 at the Second Congress of the
Russian Social Democratic Labor Party (RSDLP), Lenin and his fellow radicals argued for the
development of a new political party that was tight knit and limited in number. This party would be
highly involved in organizational work. Later in 1904 1905 when Russia went to war with Japan, and

Laertes Character
Character Analysis Laertes, a young Danish lord, is a character in William Shakespeare s play Hamlet.
Laertes is the son of Polonius and the brother of Ophelia. His name is taken from the father of
Odysseus in Homer s Odyssey. Hamlet and Laertes grew up together confiding in one another. Hamlet
went away to Wittenberg and Laertes to Paris for school. The friendship parted ways at that point.
Although Hamlet felt Laertes was a noble young man, he also thought of him as his foil. Laertes faces
the same problem that Hamlet does, a murdered father. That is where the similarities end. However,
they do mirror each other but behave in the opposite manners. Where Hamlet is verbal and only talks
about the issues in his life, Laertes is physical, acting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hamlet tended to therefore take the more aggressive approach to problems. The most obvious
comparisons to Laertes and Hamlet is that each lost their father with the high suspicion of murder
being the cause of death. In turn, each initially looks towards revenge against King Claudius who is
the suspected murder of the death of each father. The major difference in their approach though is that
Laertes doesn t care or wish to consider his consequences for his actions whereas Hamlet considers
the consequences up to a spiritual level. Another major resemblance of the two main characters is
Laertes sister Ophelia and the love that Laertes and Hamlet have towards her. Laertes has the love of a
protective brother and Hamlet has a love towards her in such a way that he himself attempted to shoo
her away in an effort to have her reject him. Ultimately, it is the matter of their heart that makes

Compare The Poems I Wander As A Lonely Cloud By William...
Comparison and Contrast Research Paper The poems I wander as a lonely cloud and To an athlete
dying young are equally different, and similar in many ways. How are these poems different let alone
similar? you may ask. Well in this essay I will compare and contrast the poems that will give you
insight on how the characteristics of these two poems differentiate and, are comparable. For example
tone, symbolism, and structure each play a big part in both poems. However in essay you will also
know the role of these three characteristics, and how each one can makes the poems whole. I wander
as a lonely cloud by William Wordsworth represents that loneliness can bring the bliss of solitude. In
the poem Wordsworth start it off with the speaker wandering in valleys and high hills. The speaker
compares himself as a cloud because a cloud represents loneliness and bemusement, and that
represents the speaker s feelings. The speaker continues to wander until he sees daffodils by a lake
dancing. As the speaker watches the daffodils he explains their dancing as carefree, gleeful and happy.
I saw a crowd a host of daffodils; Beside a lake, beneath the trees, fluttering in the breeze. (Lines 4 6).
The speaker gives the daffodils personality to show the daffodils have humanlike qualities which gives
the flowers life. Along the margin of bay: Ten Thousand I saw at a glance, Tossing their heads in
sprightly dance. (Lines 10 12). After watching the dancing daffodils, the speaker then realizes that the
flowers give him a gift, and that is the bliss of solitude. This gift of solitude helps the speaker out of
his lonesome state and, whenever he feels lonely he remembers the bliss of solitude. And then my
heart fills with pleasure, And the daffodils dance. (Lines 21 24). The speaker thinks of the daffodils,
because of the solitude in his heart which this solitude gives him joy and peace. The speaker comes to
realize that loneliness doesn t last forever, and with solitude he will find serenity and comfort. To an
Athlete Dying Young the speaker talks about a young athlete that died at a young age. The first stanza
of the poem starts out with a cheerful tone as the speaker is remembering the athlete winning a big

Argument On The Tobacco Advertising
ARGUMENT ON THE TOBACCO ADVERTISING
On Feb 6, 2001 Government of India (GOI) dropped a bombshell on the tobacco Industry when it
announced that it would shortly table a bill banning Tobacco Companies from advertising their
products and sponsoring sports and cultural events. The people that support the government plan on
banning Tobacco Companies from advertising their product, believe state had the right to intervene in
the overall interest of the citizens. They also cited the example of drugs like cocaine, which was,
banned in the world over. Most of the people that support the ban believe that so far it as happened in
some international countries like France, Finland and Norway, it is constitutional to ban the product
from advertising.
In fact, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), tobacco accounted for over 3 million
deaths in 1990, the figure rising to 4.023 million deaths in 1998. It was estimated that tobacco related
deaths would rise to 8.4 million in 2020 and to 10 million in about 2030, they strongly believe existent
of tobacco will definitely increase the number of early death.
Furthermore, Internal industry documents2 released in the United States, described 14 24 year olds as
tomorrow s cigarette business. In a case which started in 1991 and ended in 1997, RJ Reynolds

The Causes Of Forest Fires
There are more than 100,000 forest fires a year and 4 to 5 million of acres burn in the US every year.
Forest Management can help make our forests healthier and more clean if we took more consideration
into forest management then we can save homes, people, and animals habitat. The biggest fuel for
forest fire is dead vegetation that hasn t been cleared out. Between 1920 and 1950 10 to 50 million
acres burned each year. If we keep letting forest fires burn more and more acres every year the world
is gonna go up in flames. Let s stop the forest fires and make forest management a bigger deal in our
lives. Forest fires are destroying people s homes all the time. Last year in the US 4,312 structures were
destroyed by forest fires, including more than 3,000 homes and more than 70 commercial buildings.
Forests fires can be minimized if forest management is put into place. For an example the biggest fuel
for wildfires is dead vegetation and trees. If we took time in the forests to clean up the dead vegetation
and take the dead trees out then when forest fires do occur they wouldn t have a lot to burn off of. Fire
burns faster and spreads quicker on dead trees and plants then alive plants. Forest can also be healthier
and more aesthetically pleasing. If we kept the forest more healthy and cleared out all the dead plants
then it would leave more room for small flowers and smaller plants and trees to grow. The forest could
be growing with vegetation that was never able to grow

Organisational theory is the discipline which studies the structure and design of an organisation. It

them to pursue skills which are bases on their interest. The employees will find this more motivating
and satisfying. Moreover the usage of resources is maximised as new products and changes can be
incorporated quickly by moving and regrouping the teams based on the necessity.
However this type of structure is very hard to manage. This is the problem that Ritz Carlton might be
facing because the employees will be reporting to two managements with complimentary

An Episode Of War Naturalism Essay
During the 1800 s, concept of realism, or portraying life accurately as possible, as well as the concept
of naturalism, or suggesting that events that take place are out of one s control, were both very popular
concepts that were portrayed in art and literature. In the passage, An Episode of War , both of these
two concepts seem to be present, but the concept of naturalism seems to be more accurately portrayed
since it is emphasized consistently throughout the beginning, middle, and end of the passage.
The idea of naturalism is clearly emphasized right when the lieutenant gets shot, as he realized himself
that he had no control over what had just happened to him. Turning his eyes from the hostile wood, he
looked at the sword as he held it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But at this instant, the men, the spectators, awoke from their stone like poses and crowded forward
sympathetically After getting shot, the people that saw what happened crowded around the lieutenant
in order to sympathize for what had happened to him, because they could not do anything in their
power to help him or reverse what had happened, since it was beyond their control. There was no one
to fight back with or no one to further protect, which was mainly the only thing they could have done
to help. All they could do was sympathize for the lieutenant and what had happened to him, because
the events that had taken place were beyond their control, and there was nothing that they could do
with their skills to have prevented it or made it better at the moment than just feel bad for the
lieutenant and the situation in which he was in. Naturalism is clearly shown through the middle of the
passage as the writer emphasizes how the people around the lieutenant realized that the events that
took place were beyond their control, and there was nothing which they could have done either before
or at the moment to prevent or better the current

Herman Melville s Influence On Business
Melville was an American writer and literary scholar who had many views and opinions on different
aspects of American life and culture during the 19th century. He was a well renowned literary who
didn t hold back any thoughts he had to any issues plaguing that time period. Something Melville was
truly passionate about was how corrupt American business was at the time and how it served little
interest in the people. Melville wrote many short stories and passages about his beliefs on the matter
and how he believed things could be changed around for the better. His slight anti establishment views
and the way he perceived the upper classes influence on business also were important things that he
touched on his works. Lets take a look at Herman Melville and how he perceived 19th century
American business practices. First off, Melville took very staunch stances against how the upper class
had a major influence on business and how they gave Wall Street free reign to do as it pleased at the
benefit of the 1% and not to the advantage of the overall American public. Melville thought that most
of these business men were honestly criminals in business suits being overpaid to manipulate and

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Acute respiratory distress syndrome otherwise known as ARDS, is very serious inflammatory lung
injury that can cause very dangerous low oxygen levels throughout the blood. This condition is known
as hypoxemia. Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) can lead to numerous and very serious
problems.[2] Acute respiratory distress syndrome is a life threatening injury and will require
immediate attention to prevent further damage. There are many causes of ARDS but not all have been
identified yet. The most common cause of acute respiratory distress syndrome is sepsis, Sepsis is
where an infection and entered the blood stream and has had a rapid spread. For the most part sepsis
occurs in the hospital but can be seen in the prehospital setting very frequently.[4,5] Alcohol and drug
abuse seem to have and increased risk of ARDS in septic patients. Acute respiratory distress syndrome
can also be caused when aspiration of the stomach contents into the lungs happens in hospitalized
patients who have had an endotracheal tube placed into their lungs to help manage their airway.[1]
This is also known as intubation. When a patient suffers massive blood loss and a blood transfusion is

Application Of A Penetration Testing Against `` My House...
Chapter 3: Practical test
My House lab Scenario.
For this coursework I have decided to perform a penetration testing against My House lab , to evaluate
and improve my WLAN Infrastructure security.
The scenario that I had examined is a WLAN Infrastructure Network using a Virgin Media Super Hub
(Netgear) , with more than 10 devices connected .
Looking on the internet about the router model I own I could make an interesting discovery. I found an
article written by an expert in computer security, Paul Moore, dating back to March 2014(Paul
Moore,2014). This guy, a year ago, had found a flaw inside the super hub of VirginMedia. Indeed
reboot the router took 1 minute to start well, and in this minute for seven seconds was able to access
the WiFi network without the need for key. Fortunately Paul contacted the Virgin who in turn
contacted the Netgear to try to resolve the issue with the release of a new firmware.
Now the problem is resolved, however is an interesting issue happened, because sometimes, our
security depends not only on us and what we can do to protect it and keep it. Sometimes there may be
larger obstacles, as in this case an error of firmware that we can circumvent but not eliminate (until the
company responsible is not able to patch it).
Methodologies
I adopted different steps to performing penetration testing that is effective in testing how well the My
House lab is secure. I have used different softwares such as NMap , Wareshark,

Slave Living Conditions
Living Conditions of Slaves The living conditions for slaves in the United States depended on the
slave, the owner, and where they were located. Most of the time is just depended on the owner and
how he treated his slaves, how hard he made them work and how he felt about them.
Slaves were not unwilling to work for their owners, but in return they wanted the owner to take care
them for working for the owner. For slaves a nice warm meal and a full belly was the most important
thing. If they had a decent meal breakfast lunch or dinner then they did not mind doing hard work for
the owner. During the 18th century, the plantain became a very important food in the lowlands. This
was due to large coffee plantations which grew a plant called the coffee mama to provide shade for
small coffee plants. These coffee mama plants often produced a lot of plantains and so slaves sold
them to neighbors to get a little extra money for their needs. The planters came to prefer this food

Marcus Aurelius would have had mixed feelings about the collapse of the Roman Empire in the mid to
late third century AD. Marcus was undeniably aware of change and accepted it as a part of life that
was consistent, and that accepting change is basically equivalent to being one with nature. Marcus said
Words that everyone once used are now obsolete, and so are the men whose names were once on
everyone s lips: Camillus, Caeso, Volesus, Dentatus, and to a lesser degree Scipio and Cato, and yes,
even Augustus, Hadrian, and Antoninus are less spoken of now than they were in their own days. For
all things fade away, become the stuff of legend, and are soon buried in oblivion. The enormous
magnitude of emperors claiming the throne during the third century, and the speed at which they were

There s no possible way that he would have been glaring into the past and yearning for times of other
prominent emperors because he understood that there was no control over the past or future.
Moreover, the present was the only moment that each individual owned and it was fleeting, and
Aurelian made exceptional use of it. The Emperor Aurelian made exceptional strides in reunifying the
Roman Empire from the rebel leaders Zenobia and Tetricus, and attempted to mend the broken
economy. Aurelian managed to reunify the Roman Empire and give the inhabitants a little sense of
security that they had been missing. Marcus was a firm believer in grasping the moment and living in
the present, as he said we live only in the present, in this fleet footed moment. Aurelian was the
second Emperor in a row who attempted to better the political situation in the Empire, and truly made
no excuse of the horrible hand he was dealt. Marcus would have been an admirer of Aurelian s
military and political successes. Over the course of the third century AD, the silver content of the

Essay on Controversial Supreme Court Case Roper V. Simmons
The Death Penalty is a controversial topic on its own. However, if you add the possibility of a minor
receiving the death penalty it gets even more interesting. The Supreme Court case of Roper v.
Simmons was a perfect example of that. Roper v. Simmons presented the Supreme Court with two
questions: 1) whether or not the execution of those who were sixteen or seventeen at the time of a
crime is cruel and unusual punished and 2) does is violate the Eighth and Fourteenth Amendment. The
main audience for this particular case is the general American population, and specifically affects the
juvenile population.

an innocent woman. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
KENTUCKY, 492 U.S. 361 1989) The Court later ruled in Atkins v. Virginia (2002) that, mentally
retarded persons were exempt from the death penalty as well, a further sign of society s changing
standards. (ATKINS v. VIRGINIA, 536 U.S. 320 2002) The decision in Atkins explained that due to
their impairments, it is highly unlikely that such offenders could ever deserve capital punishment.
(ATKINS v. VIRGINIA, 536 U.S. 320 2002) The reasoning in Atkins is applied to the Simmons
decision. Kennedy argues that because individuals under 18 are categorically less culpable than the
average criminal, they should not deserve the death penalty. Kennedy adds that there are three
differences between juveniles under 18 and adult offenders. First, juveniles often lack the maturity
found in adults, a trait that is understandable among the young and adolescents are overrepresented
statistically in virtually every category of reckless behavior. (ROPER v. SIMMONS, (03 633) 543
U.S. 551 2005) The second difference is, that they are more vulnerable to negative influences or
outside pressures and this could lead to deviant behavior. (ROPER v. SIMMONS, (03 633) 543 U.S.
551 2005) Lastly, Kennedy asserts that the character of a juvenile is not as well formed as an adult and
that personality traits in adolescents are transitory. (ROPER v. SIMMONS, (03 633) 543 U.S. 551
2005) Moreover, because of the comparative immaturity and irresponsibility of

Why Ted Is Not The Only Place Where Ted
His work was not the only place where Ted was considered unreliable. When Theodore transferred
from University of Tacoma to the University of Washington he met and fell in love with Stephanie
Brooks. At first in this relationship all was well, But Stephanie was pragmatic. It was wonderful to be
in love, to have a college romance, to stroll through the wooded paths of the campus hand in
hand...but she sensed that Ted was floundering, that he had no real plans, no real prospects for the
future (Rule, 2000). Much to Ted s dismay, Stephanie soon broke this relationship off. Some claim
that this is one of the many things that helped ease Theodore Bundy over the edge into homicidal rage,
and most cite a similar description of Stephanie Brooks to the majority of his later victims. For quite
some time Ted excelled at life, his broken heart over Stephanie and learning the truth of his parentage

Of Mice and Men Importance of Friendship George and Lennie
Of Mice and Men has many themes presented by Steinbeck, one of which is about friendship. The
novella shows the relationship between the protagonists, George and Lennie, and showing how they
try to achieve the American Dream by working together. This is in contrast to many of the other
characters who are alone by themselves which seems to be the norm at the time of the Great
Depression. The reader is able to look at how the need to have a companion is portrayed by Steinbeck,
especially during the harsh economic times that the story is set in.
The reliance that George and Lennie have on one another is able to emphasise on how it is only the
friendship between the two of them which allows them to survive. Lennie saying I got you to look ...

Although most of the men have no true friends, they at least get to play cards and associate with
others. Lennie, because of the colour of his skin and his friendship with George, cannot possibly
understand Crooks plight. George chooses to kill Lennie at the novel s end, realizing that Lennie could
not stand the loneliness of being locked up in a prison or an asylum. This is also able to highlight the
true friendship which is separated at the end which also brings an end to the novella. Thus the need for
companionship, which is shown by other characters that are victimised within society, is emphasised
as other strive for what George and Lennie have.
Throughout the book Steinbeck uses many characters to emphasize a message which he wants to get
across to the reader. This is how the importance of being able to share a friend was vital during the
1930 s as it was the time of the Depression era and everyone always needed someone else to be with.
This is what makes the true friendship between George and Lennie a key component of the

Willy Loman As A Modern Tragedy Analysis
The definition of a modern tragedy is ordinary people in tragic situations. Death of a Salesman the
play by Arthur Miller demonstrates this theme. The main character, Willy Loman, is a salesman who
created his own tragedy. He had a poor moral compass which lead him to make the wrong decisions.
Also, he was unable to recognize his flaws in his personality. Finally, Willy had not in any way
developed the proper coping abilities to help him handle his problems properly. Willy was living a
modern tragedy due to nothing other than his moral weaknesses, tragic flaws and his inability to cope
with unfavourable circumstances.
Willy had a poor moral compass. He knew right from wrong yet he always acted on the wrong
decision. For 32 years Linda and Willy were married and Willy still cheated on her. When in a
marriage cheating is one of the worst deeds a person could do. Considering that a marriage binds the
bond of love between 2 people until the death. Cheating in a relationship can happen in many types of
forms. Willy cheated in a physical way. She s nothing to me, Biff I was lonely, I was terribly lonely
(Miller 95) When Willy used to go on business trips in Boston he acquired a mistress. He thought that
no one would find out. When Biff knew that he wasn t going to graduate high school because he failed
a math test he wanted to tell Willy in person. Biff surprised Willy at the hotel he was staying in.

Feminist Facts About Victim Blaming
Victim Blaming Victim blaming can be defined as a devaluing act where the victim of the said crime
is blamed and held partially responsible for the outcome committed against them (Ben David,
Schneider, 2005). As displayed throughout this paper, from historical times to present day there still
manages to be the idea that the victim plays some kind of role in their sexual assault taking place. In
1980 an important study was done that is still relevant today. Brown s study showed the predictive
validity of feminist theoretical ideas about the nature of rape in America. The results show that many
Americans believed in rape myths with attitudes connected to gender role stereotyping (Burt, 1980).
Individuals in the research were asked questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For males, it is explained that they are always in the mood and therefore, cannot be sexually assaulted
(Ben David, Schneider, 2005). Another popular topic is victim perception. This is the understanding
that only certain types of people are sexually assaulted, additionally the victims must have been asking
for it in regards to what they were wearing or their profession such as prostitution. Lastly, another
example of victim blame is through fabrication, which is the thought that the victim must have lied
and over reacted as women do (Burt, 1980; Davies, 2012). Through recent advancements in the
feminist movement and recent topics of gender equality, it would be assumed that the public believes
less in rape victims today than they were in recent studies. Research from 2010 however, has found
that women are more likely to be evaluated as genuine rape victims under certain conditions: they
attempted to fight back (and have the battle wounds to prove it), they did not have a past history with
the accused, and they are a respectable, meaning they are well liked, are an outstanding student and so
on (Schuller 2010). People tend to evaluate female victims as more blameworthy if their attitudes
violate the specific traditional gender

Fraud In Forgery
This essay will investigate the serious problem of forgery and a way of how this problem can be
controlled.
Counterfeit or forged money is an imitation of real money, which is produced without the legal
permission of the government or state. To use or produce counterfeit money is a form of fraud and
therefore highly punished. Forgery has been an issue for a very long time, as it is a problem, which is
nearly as old as money itself. Counterfeiting has a large impact on the economy and society, as it is
reducing the value of real money, increasing the prices due to the fact that more money is circulating
in the economy, and there s also a decrease in the acceptability of paper money. (3)
Forgery is a serious and widely spread problem, as alone in the UK (2009) there were 566,000
counterfeit notes revealed. 95% of these were 20 pound notes. The most common fraud is of one
pound coins, which there were in 2009 30 40 million in circulation of. That would be approximately
2.8% of the total one pound coins. (6) Some fraudsters, like for example McAnea, had or still have the
possibility to churn up to 2 million of forged banknotes a day. ... Show more content on

So the ethics of the fraudsters may not have changed, as those people continue to counterfeit
banknotes, however the ethics and morals of the society have changed. People have become more

surprised if a cashier carefully examines their bills, as checking the if the notes large and small are
real, allows the cashiers to intercept counterfeits and keep them out of the till and out of the their
change. (16) This shows that people have not only become aware of this serious problem, but also
started to take responsibility and

quality of premium grapes. ( Napa Valley American Viticultural Area (AVA). ) Raymond and Justin
conceived a unique idea for their winery. Rather than producing multiple varietals, they would focus
on a single wine Cabernet Sauvignon. Specifically, their goal was to produce a delicious wine from
the genesis and to achieve this goal, they committed to an extensive aging program of twenty five
months in American oak barrels, and fifteen twenty months of cellaring in a bottle. ( Our Story. ) As a

Solutions to Lowering the Risks of the Hajj s #1 Issue
Air pollution greatly impacts the Hajj. According to Homeland Security News Wire
(2014), this great risk is due to the population (3 4 million people) that experiences the 5 day journey
and it is also due to the effects that Mecca has before the Hajj (p. 1). And according to
Urton (2014), however, by 2025, 1 2 million more Muslims are predicted to take the spiritual journey.
The Hajj is a tradition is for Muslims. This spiritual journey represents one of the Five
Pillars of Islam, according to Fetini (2009), and it is the pilgrimage to Mecca. Particularly during the
Hajj, Mecca must lower its air pollution in order for residents and visitors to avoid facing the specific
health problems due to the smog and other debris in the air.
During the Hajj, people can take cars, busses, or trains, with traffic lasting up to an hour long, if they
prefer them instead of walking. The utilizations of these excess vehicles create exhaust, which
contributes to smog in the air. With the transportation on wheels, there are many environmental issues
during the Hajj in Mecca. The main one is air pollution. Contributors include vehicle exhaust, benzene
high gasoline, coolants, and sprays. Homeland Security News

My Hero Essay
Flames shot twenty feet into the air. Drums blared, guitars strum, and one tear escaped my eye. This
was the greatest experience of my life, I was finally getting to see my hero, Paul McCartney. While
most kids of the generation look up to the the likes of Justin Bieber, and Ariana Grande, I differ. My
hero has integrity, he stands up for what he believes in, even if it s not a popular opinion. Even better
is his ability to inspire, his lyrics and rhetoric make people change for the better. A true hero has the
ability to make people act, not by force, but because they want to.
It is not easy to stand up for what one believes in when he is criticised by the public or media. Being
able to stand against the regular cultural norms and do what is right is a strong identifier of integrity,
and that is what Paul McCartney does. The greatest example of this was in the late 60 s, when Paul
was a Beatle. This was the stadium era, a time for concert goers that was ushered in by The Beatles.
The unfortunate piece of the however, was the fact that this era still involved segregation. Paul and the
Beatles would not stand for this tolerance, the most amazing piece to keep in mind is that at the time
they were just teenagers. They showed integrity when after hearing that a concert of theirs would be
segregated they released this statement We never play to segregated audiences and we aren t going to

Drugs In Mexico
Our feud with Mexico is incomprehensible on many levels. Included in the mix are the wall that our
president wants the Mexican people to pay for, the North American Free Trade Association (NAFTA)
that he wishes to renegotiate, and the apparent flight of some U.S. companies south of the border in
pursuit of lower labor and environmental costs. These are business decisions based on considerations
of profits and regulations.
The issue of the wall likely has political as well as economic implications. One purported rationale for
the wall is to stem the influx of drugs from Mexico to the US. It will also serve as a buffer against
people entering the U.S. by circumventing legal means. The estimated cost of the wall (1300 miles

This is one way to drive wages up. An alternate approach recognizes that workers who are happy in
their jobs, who are paid more (perhaps above market), tend to work harder. Higher wages also reduce

Abortion Research Paper
Abstract The topic covered in this research paper is abortion. This paper looks into the history of
abortion, the pro life view of abortion and the pro choice view of abortion. Under history of abortion
the information included is the time line of significant events of abortion such as becoming legal, also
different ways in ancient times women would try to use abortions. The upgrading of technology
making abortion safer and even if abortion was illegal women would still find a way to abort a baby

Pro choice is for female activists and their beliefs on women taking control of their own body and
making their own decisions. The other side of the debate in abortion is pro life, which is defined as
murder, killing an innocent baby which has no say. It has been reported that anti abortionists relate
having an abortion to murdering someone. They believe that a murder is intentional and so is an
abortion because you are planning to abort the baby (Currie, 2000,103). Results have shown that
people who advocate for Pro Life primarily are Christian or Catholic members because of the Bible. In
the Bible, it does not say directly that abortion is not permitted it makes references to make it clear
that God felt very strong about the fact that a fetus or embryo is still considered a human. It suggests
that God creates the baby s life well its in the womb and it also says that the same penalty should be
giving to someone who causes the death of the child in the womb as to someone who commits murder
(Frechet, 2009). As you can see there is two very strong definitive sides to the debate of abortion, both
having strong arguments. History Abortion has been known since the ancient times. Women in all
cultures have used it as a method of birth control, regardless of whether the culture officially permitted
it. Over many centuries women wishing to terminate a pregnancy have drunken poisonous liquids,
rubbed certain herbs on their stomachs, or even attempted to pierce

The Argument Of Skepticism Is All About
Maryam Quraishi
Professor Leon
Philosophy 101

Skepticism
In this paper, I will first discuss what the basic argument of skepticism is all about, then I will provide
the defense of the argument: the three cases (Judy/Trudy Case, Crow/Raven and Coke/ Generic Coke
case). After that, I will talk about the responses to the argument, specifically about the criticisms from
Descartes and Moore; how Moore feels that perceptual evidence is enough and we can reject premise
1 and how descartes thinks that we can rule out the skeptical scenarios with our evidence. Finally, I ll
provide my opinion on all this and what I personally have to say about skepticism, whether I am a
skeptic or not or if I reject either of the premises. The basic argument of skepticism goes somewhat
like this:
1. If you know that you re in class, then your evidence is good enough to rule out that you re in the
Matrix.
2. Your evidence (that you re in class) isn t good enough to rule out that you re in the Matrix.
3. Therefore, you don t know that you re in class.
If put into simpler words, what it s trying to say is that as long as you know something, your evidence
is good enough to rule out a claim, but if your evidence is not good enough, then doubts and
uncertainty may be present about your claim. Skepticism is all about attitude of doubt or uncertainty,
either in general or toward a specific thing, or to any doubtful attitude or

Essay On Stress And Stress
The human body is like a car engine. It needs fuels to be powered for it to run, but instead of fuel we
need food and nutrients to keep a steady metabolism. If too many calories are consumed (being over
3,500 calories) then those calories turn into adipose or fat. In stressful situations, a person can become
inclined to eat more than or less than recommended and this can lead to a change in their weight; for
example, the infamous freshmen fifteen. The freshmen fifteen are the common weight gain of college
freshmen that is the result of stressful events throughout the first year of school. While not every
student can become subjected to this it is a great example of the affects stress can have on an
individual. Stress and weight gain can affect any person even adolescents. Stress can influence any
individual regardless of age. In a study done (Health and Behavior in Teenagers Study) 4,065 teens
had their weight, height, and waist measured. Over five years those teens had their waists and BMI
measured and along with their perceived stress (being ranked from low to high). Prior factors were
also taken to account; age, sex, and various other factors were added to the measurements. Every year
the cohorts were observed for weight gain and it was indicated that the individuals with moderate to
high stress levels had been associated with higher BMI and waist circumferences. (Jaarsveld, 2009)
This study demonstrated that stress can affect any individual regardless of the age.

The Influence Of The Italian Renaissance
The Renaissance period is know for the revival of the classical art and intellect born in ancient Greece
and Rome. The Renaissance is also a time that is marked with growth, exploration and rebirth. The
Italian Renaissance started in Florence and progressively made it s way into Venice and then into the
great city of Rome. During the Renaissance, Rome was home to some of the renowned works of art
and the finest architectural masterpieces in the world to many that still holds true today. Along with
the delicate architecture and grand artistry, Rome was also home to a mixture of people and cultures. It
is in this cultural context that understanding how men, woman, and specifically Jews and Christians
lived in Rome, becomes important to better understanding this period of renewal.
Men who were Catholic in Rome during this time period, by far had the easiest part out of the three.
For the most part they had jobs, they were able to hold property and they were allowed to vote. They
were also the heads of the households, the owners of businesses, and often could be seen in brothels. If
a man were to go pay for a prostitute nothing was ever really said, men could sleep around with as
man women as he chooses. Pope Alexander VI and even some cardinals were notorious for sleeping
with harlots. Men were also seen to be at fault less than women. For example in document 11, it
presents the testimony from a rape trial. The outcomes of this trial are still unknown, however, and
important piece is in the preface when Bell is talking about what when on in the trail. Bell explained
that in the man s defense he said that the girl had loose morals and that she would pose naked for men
all the time. Nowadays, if a man were to say anything remotely along the lines of that he would

Analysis of the Movie Frozen by Dani Colman
Dani Colman talks about many ideas in her article that show how the new movie Frozen does not
show realistic feminist ideals as everyone may think it might. Her article is very opinionated, and
seemingly biased or exaggerated. Instead of embracing how Disney has taken a step in the right
direction with the movie when trying to embrace new societal ways of thinking, she attacks how it
does not affectively show all of values held by feminists; what she fails to overlook, however, is the
idea that the movie was not meant to be a feminist movie, but rather was made to entertain young
children it just included aspects that Disney thought was progressive and compliant to today s society.
Colman does not seem to be validated with her ideas on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She says that her clumsiness factor is not built as something that she, as the protagonist, has to
overcome; she thinks that she made Elsa s coronation just about her since she is vain (Colman, 2014).
She points out scenes in the movie that show Elsa as being unaware, like when she rode into the storm
unprepared, did not think of her limitations, like when she tried climbing the mountain, and provoked
Elsa without thinking of the consequences (Colman, 2014). Her only ambition, according to Colman,
is finding her true love, though she s condescending towards the person that is assumed to fall into that
position, Kristoff, and is belligerent towards the person who it ends up being: her sister, Elsa (Colman,
2014).
In addition to these ideas, she expresses negative ideas about Elsa, Anna s sister. She says that Elsa is
not any better than Anna, and suggests that she may be worse; she says Elsa is self repressing, though
it is not her fault, pathological due to shutting everyone out (even though some people, like Anna, just
want to help), is self blaming, avoidant of issues, frightened, vulnerable, repressed, intelligent
(something positive!), and antisocial (Colman, 2014). She shuts everyone out due to her fears, and
because of that, runs away from her problems instead of confronting them. Most of her actions that
Colman deems as negative are due to her fears, showing how conflicted she is. Colman thinks that
both Elsa and Anna are impulsive,

  • 2. The Fall Of A City By Alden Nowlan The birth of a child is a truly magical occurrence. Once a baby s gender is determined, either through ultrasound, or from the brief examination of a doctor, this small branch of a family s inheritance, has already been designated with countless burdensome requirements to follow within their limited world. In regards to historical stereotypes, timid, little girls wear pink skirts and hair bows. These girls grow up to become housewives, who cook, clean and babysit the children. Meanwhile, boisterous young boys have the whole world to conquer and rule. The multiple responsibilities of a man are deemed as very important since he is the person who earns the family income. In contrast, Teddy, the main character of The Fall of a City by Canadian author Alden Nowlan, is a very inventive and quiet child, who uses his imagination to build himself a utopian escape in his dark, gloomy attic. He uses scrap paper to create the citizens of Upalia and cardboard to fabricate the radiant city of Theodoresburg. Eventually, Teddy s aunt worries about what Teddy is constantly doing, hidden away from his family. His uncle heads to the attic only to discover the shocking revelation that Teddy has been playing with paper dolls and a doll house. Teddy s uncle laughs and teases Teddy mercilessly, culminating in Teddy to go against his accomplishments and lose an important part of his individuality. • 3. The Human Eye Has No Blind Spot There are approximately 8.5 million known species in the world. Each one sees differently. A few species vision is more advanced than others; as humans we are very limited to what we can see compared to other animals. Birds of prey have the ability to see extreme detail at far distances. A bee has hundreds of six sided lens and together the lenses form a single image. And an octopus s eye has no blind spot. Each of these species eyesight has evolved overtime to adapt to survival needs. Most individuals take for granted their ability to see. Eyesight is a major connection to the outside world; around 80 percent of impressions are through sight, meaning that only 20 percent are from the other four senses. The human eye has evolved over time to turn into what it is today. Through human s needs for survival, the eye has changed to suit humans. Two of the most common types of eyes found in nature are the camera type eye and compound eyes; the human eye fits into camera type eyes because just like a camera lens focuses light onto something, the eye does a similar thing. The cornea, a structure in the front of the eye, focuses light onto the retina, and behind the cornea, is a colored membrane called the iris. It has an adjustable circular opening, the pupil, which expands or contracts to determine the amount of light that enters the eye. The eye did not always function this way. To get to this point the human eye has evolved. But scientist debate how the eye has evolved. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Vladimir Lenin And The Soviet Revolution Vladimir Lenin has proven to be a difficult figure to place in history. Some choose to view him as one of the most influential political leaders in history, while others allow him to fade off into the past. Lenin s image also greatly depends on where one lives. In the western half of the world, Lenin is viewed as a man of destruction, and Winston Churchill called him The Grand Repudiator. In other parts of the world, he is viewed as a man who tried to make the best out of a failing situation. Lenin was a revolutionary intellectual who establish the Bolshevik Party (later renamed the Communist Party). He was the leader of the Bolshevik Revolution, and, therefore, began the first government of the Soviet Union. Lenin became leader of the USSR in 1922 and ruled until his death in 1924, when Joseph Stalin assumed power. Though many argue that Lenin started one of the worst governments in history, Russian Communism, Lenin actually provided a solution for the troubling times in Russia. In the 1890, Lenin quit his job as a lawyer and moved to St. Petersburg where he became involved with a group of radicals that supported the ideas of Karl Marx. In 1903 at the Second Congress of the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party (RSDLP), Lenin and his fellow radicals argued for the development of a new political party that was tight knit and limited in number. This party would be highly involved in organizational work. Later in 1904 1905 when Russia went to war with Japan, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The friendship parted ways at that point. Although Hamlet felt Laertes was a noble young man, he also thought of him as his foil. Laertes faces the same problem that Hamlet does, a murdered father. I wander as a lonely cloud by William Wordsworth represents that loneliness can bring the bliss of solitude. In the poem Wordsworth start it off with the speaker wandering in valleys and high hills. The speaker compares himself as a cloud because a cloud represents loneliness and bemusement, and that represents the speaker s feelings. The speaker continues to wander until he sees daffodils by a lake dancing. As the speaker watches the daffodils he explains their dancing as carefree, gleeful and happy. I saw a crowd a host of daffodils; Beside a lake, beneath the trees, fluttering in the breeze. (Lines 4 6). The speaker gives the daffodils personality to show the daffodils have humanlike qualities which gives the flowers life. Along the margin of bay: Ten Thousand I saw at a glance, Tossing their heads in sprightly dance. (Lines 10 12). After watching the dancing daffodils, the speaker then realizes that the flowers give him a gift, and that is the bliss of solitude. This gift of solitude helps the speaker out of his lonesome state and, whenever he feels lonely he remembers the bliss of solitude. And then my heart fills with pleasure, And the daffodils dance. (Lines 21 24). The speaker thinks of the daffodils, because of the solitude in his heart which this solitude gives him joy and peace. Forest Management can help make our forests healthier and more clean if we took more consideration into forest management then we can save homes, people, and animals habitat. The biggest fuel for forest fire is dead vegetation that hasn t been cleared out. Between 1920 and 1950 10 to 50 million acres burned each year. If we keep letting forest fires burn more and more acres every year the world is gonna go up in flames. Let s stop the forest fires and make forest management a bigger deal in our lives. Forest fires are destroying people s homes all the time. Last year in the US 4,312 structures were destroyed by forest fires, including more than 3,000 homes and more than 70 commercial buildings. Forests fires can be minimized if forest management is put into place. For an example the biggest fuel for wildfires is dead vegetation and trees. If we took time in the forests to clean up the dead vegetation and take the dead trees out then when forest fires do occur they wouldn t have a lot to burn off of. Fire burns faster and spreads quicker on dead trees and plants then alive plants. Forest can also be healthier and more aesthetically pleasing. If we kept the forest more healthy and cleared out all the dead plants then it would leave more room for small flowers and smaller plants and trees to grow. An Episode Of War Naturalism Essay During the 1800 s, concept of realism, or portraying life accurately as possible, as well as the concept of naturalism, or suggesting that events that take place are out of one s control, were both very popular concepts that were portrayed in art and literature. In the passage, An Episode of War , both of these two concepts seem to be present, but the concept of naturalism seems to be more accurately portrayed since it is emphasized consistently throughout the beginning, middle, and end of the passage. There was no one to fight back with or no one to further protect, which was mainly the only thing they could have done to help. All they could do was sympathize for the lieutenant and what had happened to him, because the events that had taken place were beyond their control, and there was nothing that they could do with their skills to have prevented it or made it better at the moment than just feel bad for the lieutenant and the situation in which he was in. VIRGINIA, 536 U.S. 320 2002) The reasoning in Atkins is applied to the Simmons decision. Kennedy argues that because individuals under 18 are categorically less culpable than the average criminal, they should not deserve the death penalty. Lowering The Risks Of The Hajj Running Head: SOLUTIONS TO LOWERING THE RISKS OF THE HAJJ S #1 ISSUE Solutions to Lowering the Risks of the Hajj s #1 Issue Alghafees Ebraheem University of San Francisco Solutions to Lowering the Risks of the Hajj s #1 Issue Air pollution greatly impacts the Hajj. According to Homeland Security News Wire (2014), this great risk is due to the population (3 4 million people) that experiences the 5 day journey and it is also due to the effects that Mecca has before the Hajj (p. 1). And according to Urton (2014), however, by 2025, 1 2 million more Muslims are predicted to take the spiritual journey. The Hajj is a tradition is for Muslims. This spiritual journey represents one of the Five Pillars of Islam, according to Fetini (2009), and it is the pilgrimage to Mecca. Particularly during the Hajj, Mecca must lower its air pollution in order for residents and visitors to avoid facing the specific health problems due to the smog and other debris in the air. During the Hajj, people can take cars, busses, or trains, with traffic lasting up to an hour long, if they prefer them instead of walking. The utilizations of these excess vehicles create exhaust, which contributes to smog in the air. With the transportation on wheels, there are many environmental issues during the Hajj in Mecca. • 32. My Hero Essay Flames shot twenty feet into the air. Drums blared, guitars strum, and one tear escaped my eye. This was the greatest experience of my life, I was finally getting to see my hero, Paul McCartney. While most kids of the generation look up to the the likes of Justin Bieber, and Ariana Grande, I differ. My hero has integrity, he stands up for what he believes in, even if it s not a popular opinion. Even better is his ability to inspire, his lyrics and rhetoric make people change for the better. A true hero has the ability to make people act, not by force, but because they want to. It is not easy to stand up for what one believes in when he is criticised by the public or media. Being able to stand against the regular cultural norms and do what is right is a strong identifier of integrity, and that is what Paul McCartney does. The greatest example of this was in the late 60 s, when Paul was a Beatle. This was the stadium era, a time for concert goers that was ushered in by The Beatles. The unfortunate piece of the however, was the fact that this era still involved segregation. Paul and the Beatles would not stand for this tolerance, the most amazing piece to keep in mind is that at the time they were just teenagers. They showed integrity when after hearing that a concert of theirs would be segregated they released this statement We never play to segregated audiences and we aren t going to start now. • 34. Drugs In Mexico Our feud with Mexico is incomprehensible on many levels. Included in the mix are the wall that our president wants the Mexican people to pay for, the North American Free Trade Association (NAFTA) that he wishes to renegotiate, and the apparent flight of some U.S. companies south of the border in pursuit of lower labor and environmental costs. These are business decisions based on considerations of profits and regulations. The issue of the wall likely has political as well as economic implications. One purported rationale for the wall is to stem the influx of drugs from Mexico to the US. It will also serve as a buffer against people entering the U.S. by circumventing legal means. An alternate approach recognizes that workers who are happy in their jobs, who are paid more (perhaps above market), tend to work harder. Higher wages also reduce job leaving propensities and the cost of training new workers. Overall, workers whose productivity is rewarded tend to be more efficient. Rewarding productivity mitigates income inequality. This is more benign than fear driven wages increases due to labor shortages resulting expelling undocumented workers and building a beautiful wall. Comment Repealing the ACA, gutting the Department of Labor, EPA, the Department of Education, Medicaid, and willing the wall seem like an effort to return to a bygone era where the focus of government policy was on the well to do. • 36. Abortion Research Paper Abstract The topic covered in this research paper is abortion. This paper looks into the history of abortion, the pro life view of abortion and the pro choice view of abortion. Under history of abortion the information included is the time line of significant events of abortion such as becoming legal, also different ways in ancient times women would try to use abortions. The upgrading of technology making abortion safer and even if abortion was illegal women would still find a way to abort a baby are also covered under the history of abortion. Under pro life choice for abortion looks into abortion murder, the rights of human and the rights of the unborn and that a women doesn t have a right to terminate her own fetus. Under pro choice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pro choice is for female activists and their beliefs on women taking control of their own body and making their own decisions. The other side of the debate in abortion is pro life, which is defined as murder, killing an innocent baby which has no say. It has been reported that anti abortionists relate having an abortion to murdering someone. They believe that a murder is intentional and so is an abortion because you are planning to abort the baby (Currie, 2000,103). Results have shown that people who advocate for Pro Life primarily are Christian or Catholic members because of the Bible. In the Bible, it does not say directly that abortion is not permitted it makes references to make it clear that God felt very strong about the fact that a fetus or embryo is still considered a human. It suggests that God creates the baby s life well its in the womb and it also says that the same penalty should be giving to someone who causes the death of the child in the womb as to someone who commits murder (Frechet, 2009). As you can see there is two very strong definitive sides to the debate of abortion, both having strong arguments. History Abortion has been known since the ancient times. Women in all cultures have used it as a method of birth control, regardless of whether the culture officially permitted it. Over many centuries women wishing to terminate a pregnancy have drunken poisonous liquids, rubbed certain herbs on their stomachs, or even attempted to pierce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Argument Of Skepticism Is All About Maryam Quraishi Professor Leon Philosophy 101 August 9, 2016 Skepticism In this paper, I will first discuss what the basic argument of skepticism is all about, then I will provide the defense of the argument: the three cases (Judy/Trudy Case, Crow/Raven and Coke/ Generic Coke case). After that, I will talk about the responses to the argument, specifically about the criticisms from Descartes and Moore; how Moore feels that perceptual evidence is enough and we can reject premise 1 and how descartes thinks that we can rule out the skeptical scenarios with our evidence. Finally, I ll provide my opinion on all this and what I personally have to say about skepticism, whether I am a skeptic or not or if I reject either of the premises. The basic argument of skepticism goes somewhat like this: 1. If you know that you re in class, then your evidence is good enough to rule out that you re in the Matrix. 2. Your evidence (that you re in class) isn t good enough to rule out that you re in the Matrix. 3. Therefore, you don t know that you re in class. If put into simpler words, what it s trying to say is that as long as you know something, your evidence is good enough to rule out a claim, but if your evidence is not good enough, then doubts and uncertainty may be present about your claim. Skepticism is all about attitude of doubt or uncertainty, either in general or toward a specific thing, or to any doubtful attitude or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Essay On Stress And Stress The human body is like a car engine. It needs fuels to be powered for it to run, but instead of fuel we need food and nutrients to keep a steady metabolism. If too many calories are consumed (being over 3,500 calories) then those calories turn into adipose or fat. In stressful situations, a person can become inclined to eat more than or less than recommended and this can lead to a change in their weight; for example, the infamous freshmen fifteen. The freshmen fifteen are the common weight gain of college freshmen that is the result of stressful events throughout the first year of school. While not every student can become subjected to this it is a great example of the affects stress can have on an individual. Stress and weight gain can affect any person even adolescents. Stress can influence any individual regardless of age. In a study done (Health and Behavior in Teenagers Study) 4,065 teens had their weight, height, and waist measured. Over five years those teens had their waists and BMI measured and along with their perceived stress (being ranked from low to high). Prior factors were also taken to account; age, sex, and various other factors were added to the measurements. Every year the cohorts were observed for weight gain and it was indicated that the individuals with moderate to high stress levels had been associated with higher BMI and waist circumferences. (Jaarsveld, 2009) This study demonstrated that stress can affect any individual regardless of the age. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. The Influence Of The Italian Renaissance The Renaissance period is know for the revival of the classical art and intellect born in ancient Greece and Rome. The Renaissance is also a time that is marked with growth, exploration and rebirth. The Italian Renaissance started in Florence and progressively made it s way into Venice and then into the great city of Rome. During the Renaissance, Rome was home to some of the renowned works of art and the finest architectural masterpieces in the world to many that still holds true today. Along with the delicate architecture and grand artistry, Rome was also home to a mixture of people and cultures. It is in this cultural context that understanding how men, woman, and specifically Jews and Christians lived in Rome, becomes important to better understanding this period of renewal. Men who were Catholic in Rome during this time period, by far had the easiest part out of the three. For the most part they had jobs, they were able to hold property and they were allowed to vote. They were also the heads of the households, the owners of businesses, and often could be seen in brothels. If a man were to go pay for a prostitute nothing was ever really said, men could sleep around with as man women as he chooses. Pope Alexander VI and even some cardinals were notorious for sleeping with harlots. Men were also seen to be at fault less than women. For example in document 11, it presents the testimony from a rape trial. The outcomes of this trial are still unknown, however, and important piece is in the preface when Bell is talking about what when on in the trail. Bell explained that in the man s defense he said that the girl had loose morals and that she would pose naked for men all the time. Nowadays, if a man were to say anything remotely along the lines of that he would probably be laughed at and thrown in jail immediately. It is also important to examine his defense because it gives insight into what men really thought of themselves and of women. From his defense you can see that he believes himself a higher individual, which corresponds to the social pyramid. Men were always higher on the totem pole than women. Women who were catholic might be lower on the totem pole than men who were catholic, but they were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Analysis of the Movie Frozen by Dani Colman Dani Colman talks about many ideas in her article that show how the new movie Frozen does not show realistic feminist ideals as everyone may think it might. Her article is very opinionated, and seemingly biased or exaggerated. Instead of embracing how Disney has taken a step in the right direction with the movie when trying to embrace new societal ways of thinking, she attacks how it does not affectively show all of values held by feminists; what she fails to overlook, however, is the idea that the movie was not meant to be a feminist movie, but rather was made to entertain young children it just included aspects that Disney thought was progressive and compliant to today s society. She says that her clumsiness factor is not built as something that she, as the protagonist, has to overcome; she thinks that she made Elsa s coronation just about her since she is vain (Colman, 2014). She points out scenes in the movie that show Elsa as being unaware, like when she rode into the storm unprepared, did not think of her limitations, like when she tried climbing the mountain, and provoked Elsa without thinking of the consequences (Colman, 2014). Her only ambition, according to Colman, is finding her true love, though she s condescending towards the person that is assumed to fall into that position, Kristoff, and is belligerent towards the person who it ends up being: her sister, Elsa (Colman, 2014). In addition to these ideas, she expresses negative ideas about Elsa, Anna s sister. She says that Elsa is not any better than Anna, and suggests that she may be worse; she says Elsa is self repressing, though it is not her fault, pathological due to shutting everyone out (even though some people, like Anna, just want to help), is self blaming, avoidant of issues, frightened, vulnerable, repressed, intelligent (something positive!), and antisocial (Colman, 2014). She shuts everyone out due to her fears, and because of that, runs away from her problems instead of confronting them. Most of her actions that Colman deems as negative are due to her fears, showing how conflicted she is. Colman thinks that both Elsa and Anna are impulsive, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
