Corrie Ten Boom is the daughter of a popular watchmaker and christian living in Holland during the
beginning of Hitler, the Nazis, and hatred against Jews. The Ten Boom s, however, always do the right
thing and help anyone in need. Before their mother died, their household was always full of poor
neighbors needing food or tea or anything else they could provide. This kindness continues into the
beginning of the Holocaust. Corrie begins to join an underground system, involved with helping and
sheltering Jews. At first, she was just trying to get some to different places where they would be safe,
however. Corrie got so involved that the watch shop, called the Beje. became the center. She had

The Minefield, a poem by Daniel Thiel, portrays itself in an obscure yet abrupt manner in which a
hungry, fourteen year old boy, only looking for a head of lettuce, is blown up by a minefield. The
word choice and imagery in the poem consequently conveys the vision of the minefield explosion (by
the father) being unleashed through the acts of fury and violence towards his children. Word choice
conveys this vision through explicit yet traumatic experiences with the past explosion by referencing
how, only fourteen, innocent, hungry, and under good intention, was the friend blown up. For
example, on the first two lines of stanza three, Thiel depicts the scattered boy as someone who,
...carried them underneath his good intentions , /turned his head, looked back once, / and his body was
scattered across the field (Stanza 1, line 8 9). The word choice within these quotes makes the young
boy appear blameless given his traumatic fate. On the second stanza, the two lines may indicate that

Summary
The United States currently holds around 2 million prisoners, or around 25% of the world s prison
population (Prisonstudies.org). Furthermore, a large percentage of American prisoners are from
minority groups, and many others are charged for petty crimes such as non violent drug offenses.
People convicted of low level crimes experience the same kind of treatment as what a violent convict
would reasonably receive. These convicts tend to be deprived from basic rights, get into gang fights
on a daily basis and are emotionally deprived.
Across the world, different countries treat their prisoners differently. There are some countries, like
Brazil, that completely deprive prisoner s rights. On the other hand, prisoners in Norway are given
VIP treatment to be able to integrate themselves to society once again. It is unfortunate that these
extreme differences exist across the globe. Unlike Brazil and Norway, America has average if not,
below average treatment in prisons.
The correctional prison system spends a great deal of money on its system; it is greater than the school
budget (Kelly). Why is the US government investing more in its prisons rather than in its educational
facilities? In addition, the most notorious prisons stuff as many prisoners into the tiny cells. The

There are a few highly advance word processing apps like Microsoft web apps, Polaris and documents
to go for the iPad. (Bowles 2013) I have used both Polaris and Microsoft but have not tried documents
to go. Polaris was extremely good on my Android Galaxy S3 smartphone and let me do almost

Zeitoun s only crime is being Arab and believing in Allah in a time when Islamophobia is rampant,
reasons that do not justify the mistreatment he suffers during the next couple of weeks as a supposed
terrorist. Therefore, through the inclusion of credible evidence and quotes, Eggers successfully
harnesses logos to affirm the unmerited racial and religious injustices that Zeitoun faces during and
after his arrest, simply because he is a Middle Eastern, Muslim man. Besides logical appeal, Eggers
also uses stark juxtaposition in his writing, in order to draw attention to the injustices that the Zeitoun
