The 1920 s
The 1920 s were a difficult time for those in the agriculture industry. It was a time of industrialization,
however the farmers were unable to keep up. Furthermore this caused new laws to be made and old
laws to be vetoed. Farmers were unable to repay their debts and were put out of business. This caused
a decline in the goods being both imported and exported. This led to the great depression that began in
1929.
The 1920 s was a time of change and industrialization for America. During this time the agriculture
industry was both growing with new technologies, but declining the amount of sustainable farmers.
They were expected to industrialize their farms buying new expensive equipment, that forced them out
of business.During this time the farmers were having problems paying off their crops, and were
getting loans for short periods of time. They were also in high hopes of the government finding a way

The McCumber act of 1922 dramatically raised the price of tariffs, making it hard for european
countries to pay off their war debt (para 7 of Fordney McCumber Tariff). This act was made to
increase the amount of income that the United States would receive as a whole, because of the
agricultural decline in America the entire world is under distress. This act failed 7 years later in 1929.
In 1928 president coolidge vetoed the McNary Haugen Bill This was the law that allowed the
government to sell the farmers surplus to outside countries at world price(Adler, pg. 568). This was
the government s attempt to help the farmers in any way possible. This crisis had not only affected the
farmers and their families, but the entire world. Without the farmers ability to produce goods for
consumers, there would be no exporting goods, only the importation of goods, causing a major
economic decline. The veto of this bill helped keep all surplus goods inside the United States to lower
the costs of importing

America s Relationship With Japan
Before America entered WWII, the U.S. and Japan were trading partners. However, Japan had been
involved in the Pacific Theater of WWII, conquering land across Asia and the Pacific Ocean, before
the U.S. joined the war. As a result, American resources had aided Japan in imperializing other
nations. Critical of America s relationship with Japan, Dr. Seuss released a political cartoon, shown
above. In the cartoon, a man wearing a sweater labeled Japan shops at a store run by a bird, which
dons a hat with a U.S. flag design. The Japanese man orders kerosene, some excelsior and a blow
torch , claiming his mother wishes to bake a cake (Seuss, Gimme some kerosene, some excelsior and a

The Race to a Far Away Place
Imagine turning on the television set and witnessing a small discrete object flying through a sparkling
abyss. It is floating above the planet Earth gazing down at America. What classified images is it
capturing? What top secret conversations is it recording? Nerves began to set in. Tension was building
between Russia and the United States near the end of World War II. The race to put the first satellite
into space sparked fierce competition between the two countries because both nations wanted to be
superior to the other. On October 4, 1957, the Russians launched Sputnik 1, the first satellite ever sent
into space; this would have a profound impact on American culture. The Sputnik 1 launch pressured

Trader Joe s demonstrates the importance of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling in the
management process. To begin with, Trader Joe s demonstrates planning when they decided on a way
to make their stores different. Through observing that consumers are more likely to try new things
while on vacation, the company decided that their employees would don Hawaiian shirts and that they
would provide one of a kind foods at a great price. Trader Joe s is able to keep product costs down by
consistently purchasing directly from the producer of each item. This method of disintermediation
successfully cuts out the middleman, thus greatly reducing expenses, which in turn reduces costs for
consumers.
Organization is demonstrated through the planning process itself. After observing that people are more
likely to try new things while on vacation, the company set out to enable customers to be able to try
new things in stores. Trader Joe s was successful in organizing and devising a plan in which it could
incorporate the sampling of new products that will consequently broaden sales for sampled items.

Perseus Archetypes
erica s obsession with Greek and Roman culture has been around for centuries. Buildings like the
Capitol, the White House, and even the Lincoln Memorial were designed with the intended purpose of
portraying the intimidating architecture of Ancient Greece. In fashion, elaborate clothing crafted by
designers imitate early Greek attire to display a regal femininity or a warrior like masculinity. For
entertainment purposes, books, television shows, and movies are used to carry on the myths and
stories of the Greek gods and Heroes. Depending on each myth, the story could have been
compromised from the act of being passed down from generation to generation. In the original myth
of Perseus, multiple archetypes were used and provided stereotypical roles in the myth. However, the
modern day Clash of the Titans movie portrayed the myth in a completely different context, added or
removed new characters and even changed the archetype of the characters, thus changing the meaning
of the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Title: Seven Samurai
Director: Akira Kurosawa
● Historical/Contextual Details: When was the film released? What events influence this film?
The film was released in 1954, and it was Kurosawa s first samurai film. This film is one of the
greatest Japanese films ever made. The story of this film is based on historical samurai who once
existed. It is about seven samurai warriors try to defend poor farmers in a village from bandits. The
respect from other people or the farmers that the seven samurai get because of high standards of
behavior, and their moral characters that influence this film ● What do you think the title means?

Why do you think the director chose to present them this way?
The beginning of the opening credits is almost the same of the other movies that we have watched in
the class, but what makes the beginning of this film famous is the attack of bandits on the village.
● How does the film start? How does this affect you as a viewer?
The film starts with a group of bandits attacking a village of farmers and stealing their crops. As
viewer, it tells me historical some facts like formers were the victims or the poor weak class in the
society because they did not have the power to fight back.
● What are the three most important scenes in the film? Why?
In the scenes where the seven samurai warriers teach the farmers how to fight the bandits or defend
themselves are very important because we see two different social classes unite to fight the same
enemy. One of the most important scenes is the scene where the seven samurai warriers agree to help
the villagers without getting a great amount of money or status in return. They agree to help because
they care about the people. They want to teach the villagers how to defend themselves to get rid of the
bandits that are ruining and taking advantage of the lives of the poor

1984 Vs Present Day Government
There are many similarities and differences between the government in both George Orwell s book,
1984, and our present day government. It is the same way with both societies. The government and
society in the book is very simple and the rules are straightforward. Our present government and
society on the other hand is very complex and usome of the rules have gray areas. What both the
society and government from both sides have in common is that they have a significant amount of
violence. What makes the societies differ is that in ours more people have more access to resources
while in the book people s resources are very limited. Both of the governments have quite a few
similarities. One, for example, is that a lot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book, the government is incredibly strict and thorough. Our s is strict but not nearly as much as
in the book. In the book if you got caught doing something illegal, you were for sure going to jail and

crimes, you can get out of jail after your sentence. Also, you could possible get out of jail early on
good behavior. There are only very few cases of life in jail or the death sentence. Another difference is
that we have one active leader that we vote on. In the book, there are many leaders. Although they call
the government as a whole one name that resembles a person called Big Brother . A big difference is
that they both have different crimes they think are the worst. In the book, the worst crime you can
commit is thoughtcrime. Thoughtcrime is when a person hold unspoken beliefs that go against the
governments beliefs. You could get away with it quite easily. Today, the worst crime the commit is
murder, which is harder to get away with. One last difference is that today we have almost complete
privacy. We are allowed to do most things when we please without someone watching. On the other
hand, in the book, there is someone watching them at all times. The government can tune in to the

Punishment That Befits The Sin Essay

Punishment that Befits the Sin
Dante s Inferno originally named The Divine Comedy or in modern Italian The Commedia , follows
the contemporary Christian ethos by showing how the consequences of man are equal to their sins;
passed upon them in death. The physical sins that man does on earth if not repented of, will then
become their eternal consequence in Hell. Dante shows us in his travels through the circles of hell
how this suffering is the direct and equal result of their earthly sins. The sins of the cowardice, the
lustful, gluttonous, greedy, angry, heretical, violent, fraudulent and treacherous have their bodies in
constant pain equivalent of the actions of their human bodies on earth. The thesis of this paper is to
show how physical pain enacted upon corporeal bodies in hell, are the logical consequence of sin on
earth. I will show this by citing examples of sinners featured in The inferno that are tortured for the
sins in their respective layer of hell. The Inferno is based directly upon Dante s devout catholic nature.
The inferno is mixed with the bible, roman Catholicism, mythology and medieval tradition with a
direct influence of 14th century roman Catholicism. The passage concerning purgatory is a direct
indoctrination from roman Catholicism and is not found anywhere in the bible. The Catechism of the
Catholic Church teaches:
All who die in God s grace, but still imperfectly purified,

Heritable Race Based Slavery And Indentured Servitude Essay
1. Heritable Race Based Slavery Indentured Servitude:
a. Heritable Race Based Slavery:
Heritable Race Based Slavery was essentially similar to indentured servitude because indentured
servitude led to heritable race based slavery in certain ways. Without indentured servitude, they would
have never gotten to the need to use heritable race based slavery. Which is following in the condition
of the mother. The children of a slave mother are born into slavery. They are born into slavery and
they are going to be a slave because their mother is. It used to be following in the condition of the
father, but what father is a slave? It was rare, especially if you have a mulatto child. The father would
be white. So, to avoid having all these free black children, who should be slaves ( Follow The Money
) they used the condition of the mother. The mother is always a slave, so therefore, they make money
and get more slaves out of the deal. You have a generation to generation guaranteed slave, what more
could you want?
b. Indentured Slavery:
Indentured Servitude is where you can say it all started. Indentured Servitude was used for 4 7 years to
pay off a debt. It could be extended, but there was always a promise that it would end (you would gain
freedom) and that you would get land when it was over and settled with. Indentured Servitude also
had blacks and whites together. They were not separated like they were with slavery, which was
strictly blacks. Indentured Servitude was not passed

The Summer Day Mary Oliver
The final lines of Mary Oliver s poem The Summer Day instructs the reader to Tell me, what is it you
plan to do with your one wild and precious life . I attended a Jesuit high school and there were many
quotes and sayings which were repeated over and over that connected to the teachings of the Jesuits.
There were a few in particular that really stuck with me, the first being Mary Oliver s quote.
Throughout her poem The Summer Day , Mary Oliver essentially asks the question of what is a life
well lived and proceeds to end the poem with challenging the reader to find their own definition. She
is saying that we have one life and it is up to us whether we chose to make something of that life, or
simply wait until it is too late and we have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, I call on another of the many Jesuit saying that have been engrained in me. This time I feel
Socrates quote The unexamined life is not worth living brings another vital layer to the definition of a
well lived life. This is an incredibly bold statement made by Socrates. He is saying in a very
straightforward manner that if you do not reflect on and examine the decisions you have made and
actions you chose take, your life is not worth living. It is a very blunt and harsh statement. Coming
from a Jesuit high school, we took a forced pause every day to reflect and pray St. Ignatius daily
Examen in order to ensure that we were acting as our best selves that day. If you do not reflect, there is
no way you can correct behavior that deviates from your moral compass or personal beliefs and goals.
A life like that simply cannot be well lived and is ultimately and unfortunately a waste because you
are not living as the person you were meant to be. It can then be said that the next part of the definition
of a well lived life is that you consciously reflect on your decisions and actions and try to change them
for the better when they deviate from your intended

Race, Racial, And Race Relations
Every individual has a particular definition of race and a distinct view of race relations in America
today, because every individual s reality is different and therefore their perception is different as well.
With that in mind, it becomes clear that the best way to understand race relations better is to
understand what another person s thoughts are on the matter. This interview paper sheds light onto
another s understanding and thoughts regarding race relations in America. I can not sate the true

Around the same time, he began to notice other races and his classmates began to notice his race and

place because of something he couldn t control. George further explained the feeling as knowing on
some level that everything was created with someone that was not him in mind, that society was not
best fit for him to succeed. A second early childhood experience George remembers well is having a
sit down conversation with his family where they told him that some people would discriminate
against him and hate him just for the color of his skin. This was a very startling and nerve racking
conversation for a young child to have. George feels that race has shaped his upbringing from the very
start and these are just a few of the moments where race played a pivotal role in his early life. He
believes that there is an innumerable amount of examples like these from his preschool days that are
stuck in his subconscious. As George grew older he began to notice racial divides more and more in
his everyday life. One incident stands out above the rest for him. It was a spring afternoon and George
was walking to lacrosse practice after stopping by McDonalds to grab a bite to eat. While walking
down the road, George was approached by a police officer. This police officer stopped George and

Essay on Predictable and Unpredictable Life Events
P5: Explain the influences of two predictable and two unpredictable major life events on the
development of an individual
A life event can change the direction of our lives, affecting our personal development. Some major
changes in life can be predicted and even chosen, while others may be unpredicted. Predictable life
events, such as starting school, going through puberty and retiring from work, often mark a transition
from one stage of life to another, acting as milestones in our personal development. Unpredictable life
events, such as sudden illness or injury, redundancy or the death of a friend or relative, occur
unexpectedly and are often associated with loss, but may also lead to positive change in our lives.

How Music Changed My Life
How Music Changed My Life One of my earliest memories from my childhood involves music. I was
only five or six and me and my brother would be coming home from pre school and daycare. My mom
would ask us what we wanted to listen to and we would both yell back Our CD! My mother would
laugh and proceed to play a Beethoven CD she kept in the center console of the car. This memory has
stuck with me since I was a kid. It has played a major role in my development and was the beginning
of my growing passion for music. Since that memory many others followed; all involving music and
its impact on me. Particularly, is music s impact on me during sports as a motivator. For example, one
memory I have is from our most important competition Cheersport. It was a three day competition in
Atlanta, Georgia and we were all excited. At our first practice the night before the actual completion,
we were dropping stunts, bumping in to each other during transitions, and our pyramid kept falling.
We had lost our motivation for the next day and we were crumbling as a team. The day of the
competition was hectic and wasn t any better than the previous night. We began fighting and blaming
each other for why the pyramid kept falling. However, when we stepped out onto the stage it all
melted away. The bright lights shined down on us as we lowered our heads and squeezed our hands to
our sides. Then the music began and we all forgot the fighting and instead worked together. The music

Julius Caesar And Calpurnia Essay
Portia and Calpurnia were both noble and important character in Julius Caesar. They were both
married to men who had authority in Rome. Portia was married to Brutus while Calpurnia was married
to Caesar who had more power than Brutus. There are similarities between these two and also
differences. Brutus and Portia marriage is based on equality. Calpurnia s marriage is based on the
Roman marriage, where the man is in charge.
Portia and Brutus s marriage was based on treating each other as equals and no one has power over
another. First and foremost, Portia was only seen right after the important conversation between the
conspirators. She was worried about Brutus, Dear my lord, Make me acquainted with your cause of
grief (Act 1 Scene 2). She was worried because Brutus was not telling her what s going on and why he
s keeping it a secret. When they swore to treat each other equal, it means not to keep secrets from one
another. Also, Portia said, tell me your counsels, I will not disclose em (Act 2 Scene 1). Portia is

The Use of Immorality in Order to Achieve Popular Rule Essay
Throughout The Prince and The Discourses of Livy, Niccolo Machiavelli demonstrates multiple
theories and advocacies as to why popular rule is important to the success of a state. Popular rule is a
term that will be used to define an indirect way to govern the people of a state. In order to rule the
masses, a leader must please the people or revolts will occur, causing mayhem and a lack of stability
in one’s state. During both written works, Machiavelli stresses the importance of obedience and
order needed for a state, and especially for a leader to be successful. Machiavelli thoroughly states that
anything and everything must be done to keep the peace of the masses, even if acts of immorality are
used. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the bigger picture, it is more moral to prevent disorder to a community and keep it obedient and
prosperous than to let it fall to disorder and tyranny. Therefore, the acts of immorality that a ruler does
to accomplish this are justifiable means to the more important end of securing power to maintain
order.
Machiavelli is a supporter of popular rule, though in an indirect way. Rulers must please their
constituents but not give them power. For if the people feel they have power they will rebel against
their leader and cause chaos in the state. On page 96 Machiavelli states, “it is the populace who are
responsible for innumerable conflicts and clashes in a republic. Because it is difficult to satisfy the
majority without upsetting the minority, people become enraged and protest, causing what the
government would consider to be conflicts. That is why it is so important to create a strong
government that revolves around a magistrate or council, for people fear being publicly accused of
faults, let alone as a threat to public liberty. Machiavelli states that there is no authority more
“useful and necessary for leaders of a government to employ upon their citizens. “[Citizens]
for fear of being accused, dare not attempt to do anything that might

The Book The Outsiders By S. E. Hinton
The book outsiders by S.E Hinton is action packed and breathtaking. The theme leaves off a very
powerful message as well. The author makes me believe that one of the biggest themes would be,
money doesn t make who you are. These are the three quotes that support my decision. My first quote
is when Randy was in the car talking to Ponyboy; Greaser didn t have anything to do with it. My
buddy over there wouldn t of done it. Maybe you would have done the same thing, maybe a friend of
yours wouldn t have. It s the individual ( Hinton 115 ). The reason why I picked this quote is because,
Randy s buddy is a Soc who has a lot of money. When Randy was saying this he meant that no matter
what the social class and how much money someone had they most likely wouldn t of done it. This
means that Ponyboy was really brave and did the right thing even though he is a greaser. Which is not
very common since society has it in people s minds that greasers are bad and don t do the right thing.

drug contacts instead of skill and talent. Steroids could possibly be legalized although there are many
risks, people are caught everyday using steroids, people could be harmed from using steroids, and
many negative consequences are caused from the use of steroids. Steroids are not the ideal choice for
many health reasons. The use of steroids in men can cause a plethora of changes some being mental,
or physical. Changing these features and looks in men can cause many social issues with others. They
could be unwanted in social groups and not fit in. There are many alterations in men, shrinking of the
testicles, baldness, breast development, languid, and infertility. Shrinking of the testicles is caused by
using steroids for too long, or taking a higher dose than prescribed. Male pattern baldness occurs when
the follicle, which is where hair grows out of, becomes smaller which can be caused from steroids.
When men take steroids, more estrogen is being produced caused from the overflow of testosterone,
breasts can develop. Another risk from males using steroids is infertility, which means that a person
cannot have kids (Fitness). Women can have some of the same changes like men. Some risks just for
women include an increase of body hair, facial hair, baldness, deeper voice,

Naturalism in Miss Julie Essay
Naturalism in Miss Julie
Writers involved in the naturalist movement believed that actors lines should be spoken naturally, and
that mechanical movements, vocal effects, and irrational gestures should be banished. A return to
reality was proposed, with the old theatrical attitudes replaced with effects produced solely by the
voice. There was a call to individualise characters, instead of generalising them, to produce characters
whose minds and bodies would function as they would in real life. Strindberg s Miss Julie has been
said to be an excellent example of this movement, as it involves stress on multiple motivation of
action; a departure from the stereotypical depictions of character; and random, illogical ... Show more

There is also the bluntly overt exchange of lines such as, Beast! Menial! Lackey! Menial s whore,
lackey s harlot! It has been proposed that this retreat to the characteristics of old theatricality is
perhaps only redeemed in the last minutes, when the stage action becomes solemnly symbolic. The
end of the relationship is represented by the decapitation of Julie s songbird; the sudden ring of the
Count s bell introduces a character that has been silent throughout, present only in spirit. Jean places a
razor in Julie s hand, and she walks out to her death in silence, as if in a hypnotic trance. Her death is
not as melodramatic or theatrical as her previous behaviour, so this goes some way to compensate for
earlier lapses.
Strindberg expressed an aversion to dividing his play into acts, as he believed that, the declining
capacity for illusion is possibly affected by intervals, which give spectators the time to reflect and
thereby withdraw from the suggestive influence of the author hypnotist. His theory centres on the
assumption that by eliminating intervals, which act as breaks from the action, continuity would
improve, thereby increasing the intense nature of the plays action and creating a claustrophobic
environment. In order not to break the illusion, he also wanted to be rid of any musicians that the
audience could see, and would not

David Bosworth Faith And Resilience Summary
In the article Faith and Resilience: King David s Reaction to the Death of Bathsheba s Firstborn,
David Bosworth writes to prove that David s behavior in 2 Samuel 12:13 25 is because he is a resilient
individual. I believe that Bosworth makes a well supported argument to explain how David s lack of
mourning is because his faith makes him resilient in times of adversity (692). Bosworth breaks his
argument down into sections discussing how David s actions tie in with supplication, the concept of
resilience, and various pathways to resilience. Bosworth s goal is to clarify how the strange behavior
of David in this episode presents him as a man whose faith makes him resilient in times of adversity.
Bosworth first clarifies that David s behavior ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author points out that regardless of any of the other possible explanations, the text only points at
David s piety as the reason for his resilience. Although the servants are still confused by his actions
they may not understand because David characterizes himself as someone who finds resilience
through religion. Bosworth continues his argument by stating that the ability to find meaning in a loss
is a core part of grieving and generally surviving adversity (Bosworth, 703). David knows that he
deserves to die and his sin is the reason for his infant son s illness. He begs God to change his mind,
but when he does not, David accepts this and moves on. Bosworth then adds personal guilt can bring a
sense of control to an event that otherwise seems random, inexplicable, and beyond control (704). The
death of David s infant son makes sense to him because he accepts that God has done this to punish
him for his wrongdoing. The author also references some biblical texts to support the reasoning for
David s belief that his son died for a moral reason. Closing his argument, Bosworth compares David s
character in this particular passage to his character throughout the rest of the text. He finds that David
continually acts with the same self reliance and reliance on God throughout all of his trials

Analysis Of The Harvest Gypsies By Steinbeck
The bare land of California faced severe drought under the scorching sun, precious crops are harvest
ready, scarcely diminishing without any growers around. However, a group of benevolent nomads
approaches this dying land in hopes of living among it and healing it. Migrants from all around the
world travel across countries, borders, and vast terrain. California, being a famous location today in
the United States, is also set to be the heaviest drought environment with very large farmlands. This
land would have deteriorated, but it was healed in the most mundane way, agricultural farming.
Steinbeck introduces the mere impact that these migrants they ve had in the country, but in most cases,
it s not seen like that. In The Harvest Gypsies , Steinbeck writes a deliberate passage to assure that
these migrants are not of the country s problem. He denounces prejudice views among them, includes
the issues they face with the law, incorporates their unprecedented arrival, and alludes California s
importance in migrant labor for agricultural economics. Near the beginning of the passage, Steinbeck
s technique is to use specific word choices to imply that most residential views on migrants/gypsies
are prejudice. They are often a part of: This hatred of the stranger that occurs in the whole range of
human history (2). Steinbeck uses hatred of the stranger to tap into a sort of knowledge of history.
Aside from his, he shares a view in which they are often seen as ignorant and

Summary In The Lottery By Martin Niemoller
What do you think Then Lottery by Shirley Jackson means? I could bet some money that you are
wrong. What about First they came by Martin Niemoller, you know what that means? The plot in The
Lottery is, that you should speak up even if it s the wrong thing to do. The plot in First They Came is,
justice indifference Martin Niemoller. The three claims I have are justice indifference, standing up
may not be the easiest, following the crowd (peer pressure).
Now, the claim is talking about justice indifference. The justice indifference in The Lottery First they
came are similar yet different in its own ways. This is how. In the lottery their justice is the town s
lottery they have a yearly lottery but it s not what you are thinking (most likely) it s not that you win
money, it s that you win rocks. You ask how? Why? What do you mean by rocks? Well the answers to
that is, how? They don t do money but rocks and what so they do with the rocks? They throw them at
you, why thought? Because it s their towns tradition. The indifference in the Lottery is that you expect
yourself or someone else to win money not rocks thrown at you to your death. Now the justice in First
they came is that he/she was not helping others and the justice in that was that he/she got no one to
help them out. The indifference is that you expect someone or anyone to help you out in the time in
need but you have to do something in return. In both of these stories you expect something else then
what you really got.
What do you think of when someone says standing up ? Do you think it is an easy thing to do or hard
or a little bit of both? We all have different answers but let s just say it s not ALWAYS the easiest thing
to do. In the Lottery Tessie is the one to stand up but it s not easy because she is by herself. No one is
on her side. She tries to stick up for herself bur that was the first time she stuck up for the lottery she
never stuck up of anyone else so who do you know would help her out right now. Same goes for first
they came . The Nazis are going after Jews but this person is not a Jew so they don t worry about it so
they don t stick up for the Jews being taken away. Once that person is being taken

One company that made a strategic mission of being more environmental friendly and continuously
focuses on reducing the environmental impact of their product is the Dutch beer company Heineken.
The company applied the green logistics management in their supply chain by identifying were
potential improvements could be made. According to Heinekens sustainability report, they focused on
many elements to become greenxiii. It focused on inbound and outbound logistics, packaging and the
logistics of the their human resources.
Packaging
As stated before, packaging is an example of operational performance in logistics. Heineken of course,
also developed new ways of packaging their products so that production process became more
environmental friendly and the delivery of products would become more efficient. Although
packaging is a way to express their brand and presents where they stand for, it is also a big part of
their carbon footprint and part of polluting factors. Therefore Heineken renewed their packaging

Interpretation of Poems by Robert Browning, William Yates,...
The Duke of Ferrara is a character and the speaker in the poem My Last Duchess, by Robert
Browning. The reader witnesses a man that is controlling and whom will destroy anything that he
cannot control. One realizes immediately, the extent of the Duke s need for power in the title and in
the first line when he uses the term My which shows ownership (Browning). The Duke cannot control
the Duchess s spot of joy, (Browning line 21) therefore; he commands to have her killed (Browning
line 45). He still feels the need to control the Duchess, even after death. This control is revealed when
he opens the curtain and declares, (since none puts by / The curtain I have drawn for you, but I)
(Browning line 9 10). The Duke is speaking to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He asks the sages to help him in this conversion by asking them to consume my heart away (Yates line
21). This statement makes the reader believe that the speaker is surrendering to and seeking for a
spiritual rebirth from a divine being. The speaker begins to imagine a time, maybe in the after life,
where he can be preserved. He decides he will preserve himself in unnatural things, such as art when
he says, Once out of nature I shall never take / [m]y bodily form from any natural thing. The speaker
eventually becomes satisfied as he pictures himself in the after life of hammered gold and gold
enameling / To keep a drowsy emperor awake, (Yates lines 28 29) which is immortal. The speaker
goes through a sort of emotional transformation.
The poem The Red Wheelbarrow, by William Williams, can be interpreted in several ways. The first
thing that stands out is that it seems as if every line depends on the next. The way Williams separates
each sentence, makes the reader realize that everyone and everything depends on someone or
something else. For example, if the reader reads line 1 3 he/she would think that so much depends /
upon / a red wheel (Williams lines 1 3). However, after reading the next line barrow (Williams line 4)
one learns that it is a red wheelbarrow that so much depends on. The red wheel depends on the barrow
to be a helpful tool; the wheel would be useless without the

The Age And Stages Questionnaire
Introduction Children in the early childhood stage are always striving for independence. They are at
the age where they are learning self control and starting to recognize the needs of others (Ashford
LeCroy, 2013). How do delays in development impact these desires? For my developmental and
biopsychosocial assessment I interviewed a 5 year old boy who I will refer to as John. He was recently
diagnosed with developmental delays, and currently receives speech and physical therapy services.
This paper will explore his assessment using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ), as well as
how John s age and environment impacts his development.
Age Assessment Communication
During the assessment John s mother reported that his speech had improved significantly after seeing
a speech therapist for the past year and a half. She also shared that John was not speaking at all up
until February of 2016, and now he uses one or two word phrases. I saw this during my time with
John, where he was unable to form complete sentences. Instead of saying I want a drink he would
point to his cup and whimper. Mom encouraged him to use his words, which resulted in him saying,
drink.
John also struggled with following multistep directions that were unrelated to each other. We started
with an activity where I gave mom three different steps, then her and John preformed them together. I
instructed, walk to the window, touch your head, and come back. John was able to preform all 3

The Role Of Women In Ancient Mesopotamian And Egyptian...
Wo is female and the man is male, indicating how women are made for men. She is physiologically,
psychologically and biologically different from a man. Women in ancient civilizations were more
dependent on men than they are today. For example, in ancient Greece, women were not considered as
people by law and were not allowed to take part in the legal processes until they were represented by
any of their male relative. However, in our modern day, women represent themselves without the need
of a man, due to the women s rights code. Yet after all these years, ancient civilizations seem to have
profounding influence on modern day societies. For instance, women in ancient Mesopotamian
civilization were trained by their mothers to be a traditional wife, mother and housekeeper. Similarly,
in the present day Bangladesh, mothers train their daughters to be a better companion to their
husbands and endure and do what they ask of them. Since my topic is about the role of women in
ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations, the research question I have derived is, How does
the role of women in ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations have an effect on the present
treatment of women in Canadian and Bangladeshi societies? The reason why I am investigating is
because firstly, I am a woman, belonging to the middle class. Secondly, I was born and raised in
Bangladesh and grew up in a society where women are treated similarly to the women in ancient

My Goals And Dedication Of Dedication
When people hear dedication, they may think about relationships or a job. Dedication means
something different to all of us. To me, dedication is more general. It is chasing a dream or goal
relentlessly yet selflessly. It has shaped me into the person I am today. Dedication emerged in me
when I first started school and competing in athletics, and it has led me to every major achievement.
Twelve years after dedication started to model me into who I am today, I realized it was shaping my
life when I became a National Merit Scholar and placed eighth at state wrestling, both in February of
2016. I looked back to all the times where dedication is all that kept me on the track of achieving my
goals and where dedication paid off. I didn t choose to value dedication; external factors grew it up
inside of me. Every youth soccer league practice and game, every wrestling practice and tournament,
and every class I had were factors in the development of dedication. It s clear what made me become
so dedicated. The question to ask myself is why these experiences instilled dedication in me. The first
place to look is wrestling. It s a sport that can build or destroy character. Wrestling builds confidence.
This confidence can grow or shrink depending on the outcome of competition. Some people become
overconfident and others settle into the perfect amount of confidence. I believe I fall into the latter
group. Practice can grow humility and dedication by fighting through

The sea is known for its violent storms because of the difference in temperatures. Hills and mountains
that reach nearly 2,000 feet high on the east side bound the sea. Another contributing factor to the
storms is that the Sea of Galilee is only about 200 feet at its deepest, which causes the wind to create
violent waves. The Sea of Galilee is where Jesus performed many of His miracles. Four of apostles
Peter, Andrew, James, and John came to Jesus after he stilled a ragging storm; this is also, where Jesus
and Peter walked on water. The Sea of Galilee also is the backdrop for feeding 5,000 people with only
a loaf of bread and two fish. This is also, where Mary of Magdala was from. The Sea of Galilee is
present throughout the Bible it is referenced in Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Number, Deuteronomy,
Joshua, and 1 Kings.

The Species Are Declining Around The World
Background Information
Amphibians in General
Amphibian species are declining around the world. According to The IUCN Red List of Threatened
Species one third of the about 6,500 extant amphibian species as threatened with extinction (Rödder et
al., 2009, p. 53). Main threats to amphibians include habitat loss/degradation, global warming,
pollution, invasive species, over exploitation and pathogens (Wanner, 2015). Amphibians are
considered an indicator species. Indicator species are very sensitive to a changing environment and
when they begin to decline as a result, it serves as a warning to other species, including humans
(Wanner, 2015). Wanner stresses that The risk of losing the world s amphibians represents a threat to

Not all amphibians are affected by chytrid fungus the same way. Susceptibility of B. dendrobatidis in
amphibian hosts depends upon the particular species immune system make up; some species have
antimicrobial peptides and mutualistic bacteria that fight epidermal infections (Stockwell, Storrie,
Pollard, Clulow, Mahony, 2014, p.397). And there is evidence that some amphibian species can clear
chytrid fungal infection (Retallick, McCallum, Speare, 2004, p. 1970).
Origin
Chytrid fungus is very widespread and prevalent in watersheds around the world. Bd is prevalent in
amphibian populations in Australia, Panama, Ecuador, Venezuela, New Zealand, and Spain and has
been found in every continent that has amphibians. (Weldon, Preez, Hyatt, Muller, Speare, 2004, p.
2100). The specific origin of chytrid fungus is not fully known. However the earliest evidence of Bd
was found in Africa in the 1930s on skin samples from African clawed frogs (Xenopus laevis)
(Rosenblum et al., 2010, p.1). It spread from there via the large exportation of these frogs in the light
of the discovery of pregnancy assays (Weldon et al., 2004, p. 2102). The pregnancy assay devised
from these frogs is based on the fact that when urine from pregnant woman is injected under the frog s
skin, the urine contains sufficient hormones to make the frog ovulate, thus producing a positive result
of pregnancy for that woman (Marris, 2009).

In the scenes where the seven samurai warriers teach the farmers how to fight the bandits or defend themselves are very important because we see two different social classes unite to fight the same enemy. It is the same way with both societies. The government and society in the book is very simple and the rules are straightforward. Our present government and society on the other hand is very complex and usome of the rules have gray areas. What both the society and government from both sides have in common is that they have a significant amount of violence. • 10. Punishment That Befits The Sin Essay Myles P. Toe Professor Cynthia Gaw World literature 11 November 2016 Punishment that Befits the Sin Dante s Inferno originally named The Divine Comedy or in modern Italian The Commedia , follows the contemporary Christian ethos by showing how the consequences of man are equal to their sins; passed upon them in death. The physical sins that man does on earth if not repented of, will then become their eternal consequence in Hell. Dante shows us in his travels through the circles of hell how this suffering is the direct and equal result of their earthly sins. The sins of the cowardice, the lustful, gluttonous, greedy, angry, heretical, violent, fraudulent and treacherous have their bodies in constant pain equivalent of the actions of their human bodies on earth. The thesis of this paper is to show how physical pain enacted upon corporeal bodies in hell, are the logical consequence of sin on earth. I will show this by citing examples of sinners featured in The inferno that are tortured for the sins in their respective layer of hell. The Inferno is based directly upon Dante s devout catholic nature. The inferno is mixed with the bible, roman Catholicism, mythology and medieval tradition with a direct influence of 14th century roman Catholicism. The passage concerning purgatory is a direct indoctrination from roman Catholicism and is not found anywhere in the bible. Heritable Race Based Slavery: Heritable Race Based Slavery was essentially similar to indentured servitude because indentured servitude led to heritable race based slavery in certain ways. Without indentured servitude, they would have never gotten to the need to use heritable race based slavery. Which is following in the condition of the mother. I attended a Jesuit high school and there were many quotes and sayings which were repeated over and over that connected to the teachings of the Jesuits. There were a few in particular that really stuck with me, the first being Mary Oliver s quote. Throughout her poem The Summer Day , Mary Oliver essentially asks the question of what is a life well lived and proceeds to end the poem with challenging the reader to find their own definition. This time I feel Socrates quote The unexamined life is not worth living brings another vital layer to the definition of a well lived life. This is an incredibly bold statement made by Socrates. He is saying in a very straightforward manner that if you do not reflect on and examine the decisions you have made and actions you chose take, your life is not worth living. It is a very blunt and harsh statement. Coming from a Jesuit high school, we took a forced pause every day to reflect and pray St. Ignatius daily Examen in order to ensure that we were acting as our best selves that day. If you do not reflect, there is no way you can correct behavior that deviates from your moral compass or personal beliefs and goals. A life like that simply cannot be well lived and is ultimately and unfortunately a waste because you are not living as the person you were meant to be. It can then be said that the next part of the definition of a well lived life is that you consciously reflect on your decisions and actions and try to change them for the better when they deviate from your intended ... Machiavelli is a supporter of popular rule, though in an indirect way. Rulers must please their constituents but not give them power. Naturalism in Miss Julie Essay Naturalism in Miss Julie Writers involved in the naturalist movement believed that actors lines should be spoken naturally, and that mechanical movements, vocal effects, and irrational gestures should be banished. A return to reality was proposed, with the old theatrical attitudes replaced with effects produced solely by the voice. There was a call to individualise characters, instead of generalising them, to produce characters whose minds and bodies would function as they would in real life. Strindberg s Miss Julie has been said to be an excellent example of this movement, as it involves stress on multiple motivation of action; a departure from the stereotypical depictions of character; and random, illogical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is also the bluntly overt exchange of lines such as, Beast! Menial! Lackey! Menial s whore, lackey s harlot! It has been proposed that this retreat to the characteristics of old theatricality is perhaps only redeemed in the last minutes, when the stage action becomes solemnly symbolic. The end of the relationship is represented by the decapitation of Julie s songbird; the sudden ring of the Count s bell introduces a character that has been silent throughout, present only in spirit. Jean places a razor in Julie s hand, and she walks out to her death in silence, as if in a hypnotic trance. Her death is not as melodramatic or theatrical as her previous behaviour, so this goes some way to compensate for earlier lapses. Strindberg expressed an aversion to dividing his play into acts, as he believed that, the declining capacity for illusion is possibly affected by intervals, which give spectators the time to reflect and thereby withdraw from the suggestive influence of the author hypnotist. His theory centres on the assumption that by eliminating intervals, which act as breaks from the action, continuity would improve, thereby increasing the intense nature of the plays action and creating a claustrophobic environment. In order not to break the illusion, he also wanted to be rid of any musicians that the audience could see, and would not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I believe that Bosworth makes a well supported argument to explain how David s lack of mourning is because his faith makes him resilient in times of adversity (692). Bosworth breaks his argument down into sections discussing how David s actions tie in with supplication, the concept of resilience, and various pathways to resilience. Bosworth continues his argument by stating that the ability to find meaning in a loss is a core part of grieving and generally surviving adversity (Bosworth, 703). David knows that he deserves to die and his sin is the reason for his infant son s illness. He begs God to change his mind, but when he does not, David accepts this and moves on. Bosworth then adds personal guilt can bring a sense of control to an event that otherwise seems random, inexplicable, and beyond control (704). The death of David s infant son makes sense to him because he accepts that God has done this to punish him for his wrongdoing. The author also references some biblical texts to support the reasoning for David s belief that his son died for a moral reason. He denounces prejudice views among them, includes the issues they face with the law, incorporates their unprecedented arrival, and alludes California s importance in migrant labor for agricultural economics. Near the beginning of the passage, Steinbeck s technique is to use specific word choices to imply that most residential views on migrants/gypsies are prejudice. What about First they came by Martin Niemoller, you know what that means? The plot in The Lottery is, that you should speak up even if it s the wrong thing to do. The plot in First They Came is, justice indifference Martin Niemoller. The three claims I have are justice indifference, standing up may not be the easiest, following the crowd (peer pressure). Now, the claim is talking about justice indifference. The justice indifference in The Lottery First they came are similar yet different in its own ways. This is how. In the lottery their justice is the town s lottery they have a yearly lottery but it s not what you are thinking (most likely) it s not that you win money, it s that you win rocks. You ask how? Why? What do you mean by rocks? Well the answers to that is, how? They don t do money but rocks and what so they do with the rocks? They throw them at you, why thought? Because it s their towns tradition. The indifference in the Lottery is that you expect yourself or someone else to win money not rocks thrown at you to your death. Now the justice in First they came is that he/she was not helping others and the justice in that was that he/she got no one to help them out. The indifference is that you expect someone or anyone to help you out in the time in need but you have to do something in return. In both of these stories you expect something else then what you really got. What do you think of when someone says standing up ? Do you think it is an easy thing to do or hard or a little bit of both? We all have different answers but let s just say it s not ALWAYS the easiest thing to do. In the Lottery Tessie is the one to stand up but it s not easy because she is by herself. No one is on her side. She tries to stick up for herself bur that was the first time she stuck up for the lottery she never stuck up of anyone else so who do you know would help her out right now. This statement makes the reader believe that the speaker is surrendering to and seeking for a spiritual rebirth from a divine being. The speaker begins to imagine a time, maybe in the after life, where he can be preserved. He decides he will preserve himself in unnatural things, such as art when he says, Once out of nature I shall never take / [m]y bodily form from any natural thing. The speaker eventually becomes satisfied as he pictures himself in the after life of hammered gold and gold enameling / To keep a drowsy emperor awake, (Yates lines 28 29) which is immortal. The speaker goes through a sort of emotional transformation. The poem The Red Wheelbarrow, by William Williams, can be interpreted in several ways. The first thing that stands out is that it seems as if every line depends on the next. The way Williams separates each sentence, makes the reader realize that everyone and everything depends on someone or something else. For example, if the reader reads line 1 3 he/she would think that so much depends / upon / a red wheel (Williams lines 1 3). However, after reading the next line barrow (Williams line 4) one learns that it is a red wheelbarrow that so much depends on. The red wheel depends on the barrow to be a helpful tool; the wheel would be useless without the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Age And Stages Questionnaire Introduction Children in the early childhood stage are always striving for independence. They are at the age where they are learning self control and starting to recognize the needs of others (Ashford LeCroy, 2013). How do delays in development impact these desires? For my developmental and biopsychosocial assessment I interviewed a 5 year old boy who I will refer to as John. He was recently diagnosed with developmental delays, and currently receives speech and physical therapy services. This paper will explore his assessment using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ), as well as how John s age and environment impacts his development. Age Assessment Communication During the assessment John s mother reported that his speech had improved significantly after seeing a speech therapist for the past year and a half. She also shared that John was not speaking at all up until February of 2016, and now he uses one or two word phrases. I saw this during my time with John, where he was unable to form complete sentences. Instead of saying I want a drink he would point to his cup and whimper. Mom encouraged him to use his words, which resulted in him saying, drink. John also struggled with following multistep directions that were unrelated to each other. We started with an activity where I gave mom three different steps, then her and John preformed them together. I instructed, walk to the window, touch your head, and come back. John was able to preform all 3 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Role Of Women In Ancient Mesopotamian And Egyptian... Wo is female and the man is male, indicating how women are made for men. She is physiologically, psychologically and biologically different from a man. Women in ancient civilizations were more dependent on men than they are today. For example, in ancient Greece, women were not considered as people by law and were not allowed to take part in the legal processes until they were represented by any of their male relative. However, in our modern day, women represent themselves without the need of a man, due to the women s rights code. Yet after all these years, ancient civilizations seem to have profounding influence on modern day societies. For instance, women in ancient Mesopotamian civilization were trained by their mothers to be a traditional wife, mother and housekeeper. Similarly, in the present day Bangladesh, mothers train their daughters to be a better companion to their husbands and endure and do what they ask of them. Since my topic is about the role of women in ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations, the research question I have derived is, How does the role of women in ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations have an effect on the present treatment of women in Canadian and Bangladeshi societies? The reason why I am investigating is because firstly, I am a woman, belonging to the middle class. Secondly, I was born and raised in Bangladesh and grew up in a society where women are treated similarly to the women in ancient Mesopotamian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. My Goals And Dedication Of Dedication When people hear dedication, they may think about relationships or a job. Dedication means something different to all of us. To me, dedication is more general. It is chasing a dream or goal relentlessly yet selflessly. It has shaped me into the person I am today. Dedication emerged in me when I first started school and competing in athletics, and it has led me to every major achievement. Twelve years after dedication started to model me into who I am today, I realized it was shaping my life when I became a National Merit Scholar and placed eighth at state wrestling, both in February of 2016. I looked back to all the times where dedication is all that kept me on the track of achieving my goals and where dedication paid off. I didn t choose to value dedication; external factors grew it up inside of me. Every youth soccer league practice and game, every wrestling practice and tournament, and every class I had were factors in the development of dedication. It s clear what made me become so dedicated. The question to ask myself is why these experiences instilled dedication in me. The first place to look is wrestling. It s a sport that can build or destroy character. Wrestling builds confidence. This confidence can grow or shrink depending on the outcome of competition. Some people become overconfident and others settle into the perfect amount of confidence. I believe I fall into the latter group. Practice can grow humility and dedication by fighting through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The sea is known for its violent storms because of the difference in temperatures. Hills and mountains that reach nearly 2,000 feet high on the east side bound the sea. Another contributing factor to the storms is that the Sea of Galilee is only about 200 feet at its deepest, which causes the wind to create violent waves. The Sea of Galilee is where Jesus performed many of His miracles. Four of apostles Peter, Andrew, James, and John came to Jesus after he stilled a ragging storm; this is also, where Jesus and Peter walked on water. The Sea of Galilee also is the backdrop for feeding 5,000 people with only a loaf of bread and two fish. This is also, where Mary of Magdala was from. According to The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species one third of the about 6,500 extant amphibian species as threatened with extinction (Rödder et al., 2009, p. 53). Main threats to amphibians include habitat loss/degradation, global warming, pollution, invasive species, over exploitation and pathogens (Wanner, 2015). Amphibians are considered an indicator species. Not all amphibians are affected by chytrid fungus the same way. Susceptibility of B. dendrobatidis in amphibian hosts depends upon the particular species immune system make up; some species have antimicrobial peptides and mutualistic bacteria that fight epidermal infections (Stockwell, Storrie, Pollard, Clulow, Mahony, 2014, p.397). And there is evidence that some amphibian species can clear chytrid fungal infection (Retallick, McCallum, Speare, 2004, p. 1970). Origin Chytrid fungus is very widespread and prevalent in watersheds around the world. Bd is prevalent in amphibian populations in Australia, Panama, Ecuador, Venezuela, New Zealand, and Spain and has been found in every continent that has amphibians. (Weldon, Preez, Hyatt, Muller, Speare, 2004, p. 2100). The specific origin of chytrid fungus is not fully known. However the earliest evidence of Bd was found in Africa in the 1930s on skin samples from African clawed frogs (Xenopus laevis) (Rosenblum et al., 2010, p.1). It spread from there via the large exportation of these frogs in the light of the discovery of pregnancy assays (Weldon et al., 2004, p. 2102). The pregnancy assay devised from these frogs is based on the fact that when urine from pregnant woman is injected under the frog s skin, the urine contains sufficient hormones to make the frog ovulate, thus producing a positive result of pregnancy for that woman (Marris, 2009). ...
