Bacterial Infection Paper
The first step in any bacterial infection involves the attachment of bacteria to the host surface, which
followed by colonisation, and infection. Streptococcus pneumonia is a significant human pathogenic
bacterium; organism causes invasive diseases such as sepsis, meningitis, pneumonia and some more
disease in human. In pneumonia it attaches to nasopharyngeal cells through interaction of bacterial
surface adhesins. Tao Wang et al (47) reported that Big Domain ( bacterial immunoglobulin like) of
SP0498 a surface protein is a novel Ca2+ binding module, and suggested important role of the Big
domain in many essential calcium dependent cellular processes. Such domain are also reported in
Escherichia coli intimin, and Yersinia pseudotuberculosis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
and Tisa et al (3 and 4) Reported that the addition of a repellent resulted in E.coli cells tumbling and a
transient increase in cytoplasmic free Ca2+ and addition of an attractant to wild type cells caused
running and produced a transient decrease in cytoplasmic free Ca2+ levels. How an increase in
cytoplasmic Ca2+ is associated with tumbling and a decrease is associated with running remains to be
determined. Moreover In the same study (4) they showed that mutant for sensory receptor were did
not responded to chemical stimuli sensed by them, which remain unexplained?, though they
speculated/propose that increase and decrease in cytoplasmic ca level is linked with the
phosphorylation state of cheY protein which in turn controls tumbling and Running, there are no
concrete evidences to support this hypothesis as of yet. Various Ca2+ antagonists (and Ca2+channel
blockers) used in animal research, are (now) known to inhibit bacterial chemotaxis which includes ω
Conotoxin GVIA , Gallopamil , verapamil, diltiazem, tiapamil, nifedipine, and nitrendipine to name
some .E.coli Cell treated with (these) ca channel antagonist showed running bias i.e. that ca antagonist
running was predominant and tumbling was inhibited (2,). What is the reason behind this bias is not
known yet and since animal like Ca2+ channels do not appear to be coded for by the E. coli genome ,
it is unexplained why Ca2+ antagonists

Blade Faults in Gas Turbines
Gas turbines are often exposed to ingestion of particles suspended in the air such as dust, ash, salt, ice,
water droplets, and sand particles during operation. These particles are the most important factor that
cause blade fault in all types of gas turbines. The most common types of blade fault are fouling,
erosion, tip clearance increase, water ingestion, and foreign object damage (FOD) [1]. Most of
mentioned cases cause roughness over the blade surfaces that deteriorate the gas turbine performance.
Different numerical methods were used to solve the gas turbine cascade flow field in recent years. In
most of these studies, the quasi three dimensional Navier Stokes analysis is used. On the other hand,
in some studies the flow fields were experimentally tested. Sheets of sandpaper with different
equivalent sand grain roughness heights have been used by researchers to produce roughness on
surface of gas turbine blades placed in a wind tunnel and applying flow conditions of their case.
1.1 Experimental work
Yun et al. [2] used sheets of sandpapers with equivalent sand grain roughness heights of 106 and 400
micrometers. The performance tests have been conducted in a low speed, single stage, axial flow
turbine having roughened blades. They showed that for blades with roughnesses of the fully rough
regime (400 ), the normalized efficiency decreases by 11 percent for stator vanes and 8 percent for
rotor blades. For blades having a roughness in the transitionally rough regime (106

The Abstract Principles Of Sexuality And Race
The abstract principles of sexuality and race have always been delicate ideas for society to
comprehend. When you Google the word sexuality , you do not come across a gender specified
definition that constricts males and females to desire only one another. It simply states that it is the
sexual habits and desires of a person. Any person, male, female, transgender, or otherwise, can be
sexual with whomever they desire. So why is the dichotomy of homosexuality versus heterosexuality
such a pervasive notion?
There are multiple myths and facts about sexual orientation. Case Western Reserve University, located
in Cleveland, Ohio, is one of the most LGBT friendly campuses in the country. On their website they
host an page about their gender friendly campus that answers any common questions one might have
about such issues. No one knows what causes sexual orientation. Many lesbian, gay and bisexual
people know that they are attracted to members of their own sex at an early age, sometimes as young
as 6 or 7 years old. Others learn much later in life, in their 30 s, 40 s or later still. Some research
indicates that sexual orientation is determined between birth and age 3, but no one is sure what causes
particular orientations.
As for race, considering and supporting the theory of color on individuals and collaborating the ideas
to our community, in my opinion, seems to be much more of a delicate matter than sexuality. The
concept of race is a modern concept. In the

The Legacy Of The Sierra Club Adams
As Adams pursued his work in both art and conservation the various lines of his life were beginning to
converge revealing both the unity and the disjunction of his ideas. 137 His impact was felt on both
spheres of influence. Using modern techniques of mass communications, Adams brought a vision of
idealized wilderness to a broad audience and linked the environmental movement with nationalism
and a romantic view of nature. The sustained popularity of his photographs illuminates a continuing
public fascination with the wilderness landscape as both a place of beauty and a symbol of national
identity and ideals. (Pacific 42) Most leaders within the conservation movement continued to share his
ideal assuming that economic growth and wilderness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Challenges Of The Kuwait Diplomacy
Kuwait Diplomacy
Over the twentieth century there has always been a struggle of power within the middle east, and
particularly between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. Amongst the nations in the Arabian Peninsula,
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has always been at the most power and influential country. Saudi Arabia
and Iran were always polar opposites of each other. When Saudi Arabia first produced its oil, it saw its
economy benefit and heighten much more than Iran could do with its oil reserves. Oil was one of the
major element with Saudi Arabia and its neighboring countries that attracted Western powers to its
side and supported its foreign policies in direct opposition to Iran. After overthrowing the Shah of
Iran, the recession led to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The collapse of a state s authority and rise of militias and terrorist groups undermined other states
sovereignty and led to more violent proxy wars. Without the Iraqi buffer between the GCC and Iran,
more proxy wars began to spread all over the Middle East. One of the reasons that states in the
Arabian Peninsula were able to standoff terrorist attacks and proxy wars is because of the authority the
leaders wield which is forged over hundreds of years, the close kinship between the states have proved
detrimental to their survival in the past which is why they did not fall to terrorists in the way Yemen,
Iraq and Syria had.
The unique aspect that surrounds Iran is it is the only predominantly Shi a nations that is under a Shi a
authority; one way to understand Iran is that it is the polar opposite of what the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia is. Iran remains isolated in the region, not as isolated as it was before Saddam Hussein was in
charge of Iraq but it is still slowly spreading its influence around the GCC and surrounding nations
through Hezbollah, which had support from Iran and is present in Lebanon, Bahrain, Yemen and
Syria. Gulf States recognize Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.
However, it is important to clarify that not all of the conflicts in the Middle East occur because of Shi
a Sunni factions. When discussing religion in the Middle East, another classification that is often
overlooked or ignored is race and ethnicity. In

Workmanship Warranty
What Does The Workmanship Warranty Mean? Replacing your roof is an expensive venture. Several
parties are involved in roof replacement: manufacturers, roofing contractors and dumpsters, among
others. The different parties offer warranties. Do you understand what that means? Let us focus on the

warranty, together with the manufacturer s warranty, provides your roof with coverage if improper

The Importance Of Information On The Internet Of Things
The Internet of Things speeds up awareness and response to events. It has a wide domain of
application for instance in industries such as manufacturing, transportation and public sectors, faster
response time not only improves the output, it also decreases the occurrence of a hazard.
Taking an example of any factory, a temperature sensor deployed on critical machines on the floor can
send readings before a failure is about to happen and action can be taken before in hand. Likewise,
deploying a sensor on oil pipelines can raise an alert and slow down or stop the pumping of oil as a
response to the alert which can help prevent a huge loss. Now that we understand how important it is

Sends selected data to the cloud for historical analysis and longer term storage. Analyzing the IoT data
close to where it is collected minimizes latency. It reduces gigabytes of network traffic load from the
core network and keeps the sensitive information within the network.
1.5 Concept of Fog Computing:
The fog extends the cloud to be closer to the things that produce and act on IoT data. These devices,
called fog nodes, can be deployed anywhere with a network connection: on a factory floor, on top of a
power pole, alongside a railway track, in a vehicle, or on an oil rig. Any device with computing,
storage, and network connectivity can be a fog node. Examples include industrial controllers,
switches, routers, embedded servers, and video surveillance cameras. IDC estimates that the amount
of data analyzed on devices that are physically close to the Internet of Things is approaching 40
percent.
Fog computing, also known as fogging/edge computing, it is a model in which data, processing and
applications are concentrated in devices at the network edge rather than existing almost entirely in the
cloud.
Fog computing offers many key

Life Events And Stress, Stressors And Frustration
Boot Camp Days Finally, it has come, the final paper! Although I will miss all the great things we
learn about in class every week, I will not miss having to think of information to type in these papers.
This week the topics I have chosen to discuss are; life events and stress, stressors and frustration. The
best way I can relate to these topics is by talking about my personal experiences at Navy Boot Camp.
The worst eight and a half weeks of my life.
The Good Beginning
My journey began, I was leaving the Tampa airport and heading to Chicago, destination Great Lakes,
to become a sailor. At the airport, I was full of many different thoughts and emotions, being excited,
but scared of what was to come.
Arriving at the Chicago O Hare airport we were met by a group of Petty Officers who were a lot nicer
than I thought they would be. Before we left the airport, we had to throw out anything we were not
supposed to have, lip balm, lotions, soaps, we couldn t even keep our toothbrushes. That was fine, at
least I wasn t getting yelled at. Then we loaded up onto a bus and headed to the base.
The Start of the Worst Arriving on base, we pulled up to a building and quickly loaded off the bus and
filed in one by one. There were three different people all yelling different directions. Sadly, the Petty
Officers who picked us up from the airport, were not Recruit Division Commanders (RDC). My hope
of everything continuing to go well was shot down very quickly. Just being there five

Feminism Is A Very Loaded Word
Feminism is a very loaded word. Many people have their own definition for it. Generally, it is defined
as equality between men and women. Women and men should have equality within the house and as
mothers and fathers. Children rely much on mothers because of the reproductive labor that is
traditionally done by them. As such, they need to be included in such a discussion.
Within a household, women and men, mothers and fathers, have different roles and responsibilities,
much of which are based on the person s gender. Typically, women or mothers are responsible for the
emotional, social, and physical well being of her family (Lober 80), most of the hands on family work
(Lorber 81), and keep up of the house. The men or fathers are usually seen as the bread winners of the
family. Due to this and the work they do outside of the house, men usually have little to no
responsibilities to the family and within the home. It is not unusual for women to clean the house,
make sure the children are well taken care of, and cook while the man, or father, is at work. When he
gets back home, after work, it is expected for him to relax and unwind. Although they are a couple
with similar obligations, the divide of them is not equally distributed among the two and offer either
one different results. Not only is the work that is done within the house hold unequal, in favor of the
man, women s work is also invisible and usually unpaid. Both women who stay at home or work both

Tomb Raider Research Paper
Before Angelina Jolie took the mantle as Lara Croft in the movies, there was the iconic video game
that has inspired a generation of players and video game enthusiasts. Tomb Raider that features Lara
Croft was a hit and was critically acclaimed for a number of reasons. One, the game is packed with
adventure, with the heroine, Lara Croft taking the lead in the exploration and discovery. Two, the
video game was also about a female hero, something that was novel during the 1990s when games are
dominated by male heroes. These are just two reasons why Tomb Raider has become a hit during
1990s among video game players. But it the influence and effect of Tomb Raider is not just felt in the
movies, even the casino gaming industry managed to get inspired by the game and heroine. To be

The wild for the game is the Tomb Raider, which replaces other symbols. Winning combinations made
by the wilds will offer the best jackpots, with a maximum jackpot of x7,500 the wager, provided the
player gets all 5 wilds. The scatter is Lara Croft with her hand gun, and getting 3 scatters will push the
player to play the free spin mode. We also commend the designers of the game for adding a bonus
symbol, that can lead the player to play the bonus game. This part of the game can be activated if the
player gets 3 bonus Tomb Raider symbols. This bonus feature of Tomb Raider can help players boost
their winnings by x2,500 the wager.
Betting Options
Tomb Raider is great for mid limit bettors, and if you decide to bet the minimum amount for all lines,
then you only need to prepare 7.50. But if you decide to take your chance on all lines, then players
should prepare 37.50 where 5 coins are placed on all lines.

Narrative Essay On A Mouse In The Mouse
Me and my friends just found a dead mouse in our classroom, and one of them suggested we hide it in
Mrs Pratchett s jars of sweets. I was given the honor of putting the mouse in the jar. Before I did so, I
made a last minute decision to turn the tables of our secret plan, because I would have to face risky
consequences. Once we reached there, I ve started planning my own mouse plot by tricking my
friends into thinking that I put the mouse in, when in reality I hadn t. We barged in the sweet shop, and
we saw Mrs Pratchett s dissatisfied as usual. She grumbled because we barged in her sweet shop like a
pack of wild cattle. After that, she went to the bathroom, making it the perfect time to put the mouse
in. I told my friends to wait outside so just in case she walks out, she won t be expecting any
tomfoolery. This was just step 1 of my scheme, and a wide, smug grin spread across my face as my
plan came together. When she came out of the bathroom, I asked her if I could go there for a while.
She stared at me for a full minute of silence, wiping the soot of her chin, and said I could, but I had to
clean up afterwards. Drooping my arms, I headed to the bathroom and started desperately flushing the
mouse in. Mrs Pratchett heard all of the flushing, and she came to the door to see what was going on.
It was a miracle that her bathroom door had a lock option on it, because if there wasn t , my plan could
have been a total bust. I washed my hands twice to get the mouse s germs off my hands (the water
there wasn t very sanitary!), and came out like nothing unusual happened. I was starting to get a
jumpy feeling about how my mouse plot was running so smoothly (though I can t really call it a
mouse plot anymore because I threw away the mouse.) I told my friends to come inside, and they all
have the same jumpy feeling like I did, with big, smiling faces on the prank. I was chuckling quietly to
see the look on their faces when they realize who I really pranked. I whispered to Thwaites that the
mouse was in the candy corn jar, so he asked for a pound of them. I even pulled out a few bucks to
emphasize the prank. She unscrewed the jar and she didn t find any trace of mouse in there. Confused,
Thwaites asked her to keep

Alan Paton s Cry, The Beloved The Country
History is known to repeat itself, as evidence by the many groups that have suffered racial and ethnic
discrimination. Hitler created prejudice against the Jews during World War II. Southerners
discriminated against the Blacks, leading up to the Civil War, and during the Apartheid, the Natives
were segregated from the Whites. In Alan Paton s Cry, the Beloved the Country, the main character
Stephen Kumalo goes through a journey to restore his tribe. During his journey, he discovers and
learns of the injustices in South Africa. Through the parallels and contradictions of biblical allusions,
Alan Paton is able to explain the impact of racial inequality in South Africa, but signifies how
unconditional love and hope can be used to overcome fear and bring restoration to both the land and it
s inhabitants.
Arthur s allusion represents the overall battle of good versus evil and the fight for equality. King
Arthur and Arthur Jarvis were well liked, and respected by the people. Paton states the church had
been too small for all who wanted to come (181), and this is the ultimate representation of the respect
that Arthur receives. King Arthur had the Knights of the Round Table where everyone at the table was
seen as the same, while Arthur Jarvis wishes for sameness of both races and his death is seen as a
major tragedy. The reader is able to learn about what many characters think of him in the aftermath of
his death, this is a terrible loss for South Africa said the white priest.

And Different Ways to Avoid Them
Abstract
People who do business as a sole proprietor or in a partnership are liable for the torts committed by
them and for torts committed by the business and its agents. The best way to avoid tort liability is to
set establish their business as a corporation or a limited liability company. A corporation or limited

Remember that it does not matter what type of business organization is selected, if a person commits a
tort they are still personally held responsible. For example, if a shareholder in a corporation runs over
an employee while driving a company truck, he or she is still held liable for negligently operating the
vehicle. There are certain clauses that can be beneficial in a contract as well as clauses that one should
be wary of. Some clauses that can be beneficial include hold harmless clauses, which are used to shift
liability from person to another; and indemnification clauses, which are designed primarily to transfer
the liability and expense of claims brought against the business away from the entity (Rapp). While
some clauses are beneficial, one should be wary of others. For example, one should avoid clauses
pertaining to his or her rights and duties in the event that a claim or suit arises, which can create a
contractual duty on their part (Rapp). Entering into a provider agreement that forfeits a person s ability
to seek compensation for services they are entitled to should also be avoided. One should always be
cautious of forfeiting their right to compensations (Rapp).

Baumrind Parenting Style
Parenting Styles Hanna Lagman Los Angeles Harbor College Abstract Parenting styles play an
important role in a child s development. Diana Baumrind identified four parenting styles:
authoritative, authoritarian, indulgent, and neglectful. According to Baumrind, the authoritative style
works best. In order to understand parenting practices in other cultures, Mexican families and
Caucasian Non Hispanic families will be compared. It is hypothesized that the Mexican families
utilize the authoritarian parenting style, while the Caucasian Non Hispanic parents utilize authoritative
parenting style. All families were given a questionnaire to compare the parent s parental practices
across two cultural groups. It was anticipated that the families would differ in parental styles;
however, there were no differences between the parenting styles within the cultural groups. Parenting
Styles Developmental Theory In 1971, Diana Baumrind categorized different parenting styles by
observing middle class parents interacting with their children (Belsky, 2010, p. 201). Baumrind s
parenting styles influence the field of child development and have been widely cited. In her research,
she developed four parenting styles: authoritative, authoritarian, indulgent, and neglectful. They are
analyzed by two factors: responsiveness and demandingness. Parental responsiveness refers to how
parents respond to the child s needs. Parental demandingness refers to the parent s

Amnesia Psychology
Amnesia and Memory Loss: The Psychological Phenomenon
Introduction
For my psychology project, I chose the topic of amnesia. I have always been curious about memory
loss ever since I was a little kid. As a young, I watched movies like Finding Nemo were there was a
character, named Dory, who suffered from it. I have also been exposed stories from my parents, about
our ancestors, who suffered from alzheimer s, a disease that contributes to chronic memory loss.
Because of this, I became very curious about amnesia, as well as the concept of memory loss as a
whole. Prior to my research, I created a list of questions that I intended on answering. The questions
that I had were the following: How can we prevent amnesia and memory loss? What are the side
effects of amnesia? And, what are the different types of amnesia?
Overview ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Right off the bat, I can tell you that it relates directly to the unit on biological sciences, as well as our
developmental psychology unit. We all learned that some memory loss is normal as we age, almost
everyone experiences it in some point in their life. That being said, there have been some rare
instances where octogenarians, or people in their 80 s, retained better working memories than people
in their 20 s (which is often associated as the peak of human mental capacity).
However, most of the time scientists can see a sharp decline in memory, in most octogenarians, as well
as nonagenarians. Moving more towards the biological side of things, normal memory loss that
accompanies normal aging occurs in the brain due to changes in the prefrontal cortex. Meaning, that
as we get older, the less things we may tend to

Electrocution Occupational Hazard
Electrocution as an occupational hazard isn t limited to electricians. According to OSHA,
electrocution is responsible for one of every ten deaths in the construction industry. This commonly
happens when a ladder or the worker on it accidentally contacts a power line. This occurs in a number
of ways such as: A ladder contacts a power line while it is lifted into place, moved sideways, or taken
down. A ladder on unstable ground topples onto power lines. Ladders displace other conductive
objects such as antennas onto power lines. Workers on ladders accidentally contact power lines while
using a long handled tool. Because power lines are invariably near roads, houses, and buildings,
construction workers of all kinds must exercise caution when

Correlational Research
In my chosen field of school psychology, correlational research is a great research method in order to
build various support groups, interventions, and an overall warm school climate. One topic that I am
specifically interested in is the relation of self esteem and bullying. I would predict that there would be
a negative correlation between the two variables, as I believe that bullying is prominently done by
those students whom have lower levels of self esteem.
Research Question: How is self esteem related to bullying?
I believe that this research question would be most supported by correlational research because the
results will allow me to see if there is a relationship between self esteem and bullying. If I find that
there is in fact a relationship, then I will have the ability to build programs within the school that focus
on self esteem in order to reduce, or stop, bullying from happening. To begin, I would assign self
esteem as the predictor variable and bullying as the outcome variable.
For this study, I would seek all students attending 3 different schools in the same city, or area. I would
want one school that reports very little bullying, a school that reports an average amount of bullying,
and one school that reports extreme amounts of bullying. I believe that the three different ... Show

Accidental Death of an Anarchist
Q) Critically analyze the Figure of Madman in Dario Fo s play The Accidental Death of an anarchist.
A) Dario Fo s play The Accidental Death of an Anarchist (1970) lies in the category of revolutionary
theatre that challenges the fascist regime of Italy. The play is a farce based on events involving a real
person, Giuseppe Pinelli, who fell or was thrown from the fourth floor window of a Milan police
station in 1969. He was accused of bombing a bank. The accusation is widely seen as part of the
Italian Far Right s strategy of tension. Just like Fo s other play, this play is also funny and subversive
and shows a strong preference for the culture and traditions of the ordinary people and a commitment
to the left wing politics. The play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He provides most of the humor content of the play. The madman is whimsical and he constantly
contradicts other characters as well as himself. His series of logical/illogical arguments becomes
impossible to tackle and it frustrates the Police Department. Even though being termed as
psychologically unfit, the madman appears to be the most intelligent character in the play. He ridicules
the police officials for missing out on the basic concepts of English grammar and the use of the most
important COMMA that changes the meaning of a sentence. He dictates the terms of law and judiciary
to police officials. He is extremely sarcastic. He ridicules the superintendent for assuming the railway
man planted the bomb in railway station without any substantiate evidence and sarcastically rebukes
the kindergarten logic .
The people in power appear to be inhuman and brute in their actions, and the sacred governmental
place, the police station appears to be a madhouse or a slaughterhouse. The madman, even though he
is mad appears to be the sanest character in the play. In fact, he appears to be directing the play
according to his wishes. Suffering from a disease

Capital Punishment And Juvenile Punishment
Capital punishment is the term used when an individual is put to death by the state or government for
the commission of a crime. Until recently, juveniles were not exempt from this punishment, however
they would generally need to commit a more serious offense compared to their adult counterpart. Then
there was the decision ruling the execution of mentally handicapped individuals was unconstitutional,
using the 8th amendment as their authority, while taking into account the diminished capacity of the
individual. Succeeding that ruling, in 2005 the Supreme Court ruled that putting a child to death was
unconstitutional using the 8th amendment as their rationalization, and the juvenile s lack of maturity
as one of the reasoning. I have chosen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This subject is also important because much like many other issues, even though it is considered
obsolete at the moment, it may not always be that way. The Supreme Court ruling in the 2005 case
that ruled juvenile executions unconstitutional, passed by a majority of five to four. Since that time we
have had two of the five majority leave the Court, two of the minority leave, and added four new
justices, including the chief justice. This is important to this subject because the ruling was made
based on the interpretation of the information by nine individuals. If this ruling is ever challenged
again, we may see a different outcome, thus having a need for research on the topic. By researching
the broader subject matter of capital punishment, I am able to collect data from adult cases and
compare them the juvenile equivalent, while at the same time evaluate theories that may have fallen
short in research for adults, such as deterrence, and determine if they would apply to younger
offenders. I will be able to do this by using data prior to the 2005 Supreme Court case which ruled
juvenile capital punishment unconstitutional, and comparing it to data in the years following. I will
also be able to evaluate the data where the death penalty could have been used prior to 2005, but was
not, and compare that to more recent data of juvenile being sentenced to life without parole.
Evaluating cases warranting the death penalty compared

Technology Is Too Invasive, Lacks Transparency, And Must...
As with any advancement, the rise of technology has its drawbacks. The internet has allowed the
creation of an industry based solely in gathering and selling mass amounts of user data. This data
collection is meant to improve and personalize a user s experience. But the amount of data collected
far exceeds the amount needed to accomplish this. And despite the size and pervasive nature of the
industry, the general public knows very little about what they do. Data collection online is too
invasive, lacks transparency, and must be restricted. For starters, the sheer amount of data collected is
absurd. Some of it is expected, such as names, email addresses, crash reports, and other basic pieces of
information. But many companies also drew from unexpected sources. Google collects data from
search queries, time and date of phone calls, length of phone calls, and even data on a user s precise
location (Google). And while a user may expect that Facebook collects data from everything they post,
they may be surprised to learn that Facebook also collects data on a user from posts by other people.
Facebook will even collect information on web activity outside of Facebook via third party partners
(Facebook). And they re hardly the only companies to do this. In fact, there are companies that exist
solely for this purpose. They are known as data brokers , and they gather much of their information
online. When the Federal Trade Commission did a report on nine major data brokers, they

High Island Research Paper
I ve been going to the same summer camp for six years and most years we canoe out to High Island,
which is about a mile away from the camp, or a 45 minute paddle. I ve never had much luck going out
to the island. One year it was so windy we had to stop at a town dock and be driven back to camp
because the winds were so strong, and the water was so choppy. Another year my canoe was dented,
which dramatically affected the tracking so we had to be tied to a counselor s canoe and brought back
to camp. With the strong memories of those trips I was worried when my counselor in training
program required a three day camping trip to High Island, meaning a canoe trip out with lots of
supplies. For our group of four guys, four girls, and two counselors ... Show more content on

While my friends paddled away, Sophia and I were blown around by the wind, and wouldn t get to the
island in the predicted time window. We stopped at a dock and quickly were able to switch positions,
so I was in the front of the boat, and sophia was in the back. This helped a lot but, we were coming
upon a part of the route where we had to travel past an area where two islands allowed strong winds to
come through. We paddled hard, not caring about the calluses or sore arms, just trying to get where we
needed to be. Once our boat passed the channel of wind, we paddled our way past the choppy water
and found our way to the island shore where Liam and Ethan were waiting. They helped us unpack
and tie up the boat, when our counselor noticed a broken part of the boat. The yoke or middle beam of
the boat was broken, which he explained, was extremely dangerous, and most likely why it was so
hard to get to the island. Whenever we traveled in the canoe from that trip on we couldn t have much
extra weight in the boat, and we had a designated rescue boat. The day after we arrived on the island
we paddled to a quarry next to Liam and Ethan, and did the same the day after that when we went
back to camp. This trip showed me that road trips are seen as an American tradition because it shows

John Stuart Mill s Elimination Of Victimless Crimes
There are thousands of laws on the books that are rarely enforced by law enforcement personnel.
Numerous laws are violated each day, in private, and do not raise the suspicion of the police or any
other person. Does that mean there were no victims of a crime? Unfortunately no. There is a large
contingent of people that want to keep the state out of an individual s private lives and suggest there
are many victimless crimes that should never be enforced and stricken from the law books.
Regrettably every crime that is committed has a victim, whether directly or indirectly that affects
society as a whole.
In order to appreciate the concept that there are no victimless crimes there needs to be an
understanding to the counter argument. According to John Locke, he states that individuals should
almost always be left alone to live their lives without interference from the state or government.
Additionally, John Stuart Mill developed the harm principle which ... Show more content on

should be abolished are unaware of the potential victims that are created from their actions. For
example, an individual smoking marijuana in his home with no one around could lose their job
because of the positive drug test or their impaired behavior, have no additional income, and turn to
theft and burglary to support their habit and pay the bills. Even more serious would be that same
individual leaving his home after smoking marijuana is involved in a major accident that either
seriously injure or kill himself or someone else. Both of these scenarios proves there was no direct
victim that was caused harm by this alleged victimless crime, but this also shows there is a long list of
secondary victims associated with smoking

Mesopotamia, Nile in Egypt and Indus Valley (Mahenjodaro and Harrapa) in India.

The region herein referred to as Mesopotamia was made up of independent city states that had their
respective political organizations and sphere of influence. Between the period of emergence and fall,
Mesopotamian city states often engaged each other in various wars due to the fact that the Kings of
respective cities always wanted to expand their territorial boundaries. The need to expand the sphere
of influence also stemmed from the desire to control vast amount of resources (Fordham University,
Mesopotamia ).
The Ancient Mesopotamian inhabitants lacked a unified national identity. They majorly identified
themselves with their respective cities and their political control. The concept of national identity
arose only after the development of the printing press, which makes it understandable why this region
was not unified under a common national identity. Most of the identities were, however, defined
alongside family, clan, village and then the city (Fordham University, Mesopotamia ).
Religion in Mesopotamia
Religion in Mesopotamia was understood as a concept that helped people to get a deeper meaning of
the world and its surroundings. It offered an assurance to the people of Mesopotamia that there are
other existences beyond the chaotic and random happenings of the physical world. Consequently,
Mesopotamians had anthromorphic gods that often assumed the appearance of

Explain The Motives For European Exploration
Motives for European Exploration
The Age of Exploration was a period from the early 15th century and continuing into the early
17th century. Historians generally recognize three motives for European exploration and colonization.
God, glory, and gold are describing the motives generating the exploration, expansion and conquests,
allowing European countries to rise.
In 622, Christianity was faced with new challenges. Islamic religion spread throughout the
Middle East and into Europe. Soon thereafter, European Christians began the Crusades, a campaign of
violence against Muslims to dominate the Holy Land. Moreover, Europeans decided to reclaim the
holy city from Muslim rulers as well as conquer the entire surrounding area.

Merchants ships brought Europeans valuable goods, traveling between the port cities of western
Europe and the East along the Silk Road. However, transporting goods along the Silk Road was costly,
slow, and unprofitable. Muslims collected taxes as the goods changed hands. As well as seeking a
water passage to the wealthy cities of the East, the sailors wanted to find a route to the Spice
Islands. The profit pushed explorers to seek new trade routes to the Spice Islands and helped to
eliminate Muslims. The competition between the Spanish and the Portuguese motivated both nations
to colonize quickly and aggressively.

expanded its empire down the western coast of Africa to the Congo, along the western coast of India,

mass, their possession of the islands and coastal ports gave them control of the trade routes. As

The Importance Of Proteins
Proteins are the metabolic workhorses of the cell; they engage in a variety of essential activities
ranging from enzymatically catabolizing macromolecular food sources to serving as structural
components that maintain cell stability. Maximizing protein function relies on intricate non covalent
interactions occurring on the secondary, tertiary, and quaternary levels that help determine the overall
shape of the protein. In their native states, proteins will assume the most energetically favorable
configuration. Occasionally however, cells are exposed to exogenous disruptions such as heat stress.
Heat Stress can compromise protein three dimensional structure. Hydrophobic residues tend to be

sHSPs are a ubiquitous class of chaperones found across all kingdoms of life. sHSP range in size from
12 42 kilo Daltons in large oligomers of 12 to 32 subunits and the structure is homologous across all
species. The sHSP monomer consists of three domains: a disordered N terminal arm, a beta sandwich
α crystallin domain, and a flexible C terminal extension. The N terminal domain is the most variable
region with little conservation between species. Experimental evidence also suggests N terminal
involvement in substrate binding and protection. The α crystallin domain is the most highly conserved
region and adopts a β sandwich conformation composed of 7 to 8 anti parallel β strands (Basha et al,
2012). The C terminus contains an I X I motif, which helps to satblizie the oligomeric form of the
sHSP (Basha et al, 2012).
Data from previous studies suggest that the inactive sHSP takes on the oligomer conformation Upon
stress, these oligomers assemble into active dimeric species, exposing previously inaccessible
hydrophobic surfaces that can then interact with nonpolar patches on the misfolded substrate,
capturing them in large complexes. The sHSP substrate complexes maintain the substrate in a folding
competent state for extended periods of time. Biologically this is of utmost importance since it is

Analysis Of In Defense Of The Insanity Defense
The current American Justice System has many issues, one in particular is the insanity defense.
Defendants have used this plea in courts for many years, which have led to massive debates. The
insanity plea weighs heavily in our society. A society that demands for justice. However, some people
praise it as if it was sent from the heavens above. On the other hand, there are many people who view
it as an unnecessary evil. The insanity defense is rooted in a basic principle of justice; this it is unfair
to hold persons responsible for their actions when they don t know, or can t control, what they are
doing (Worth 16), it may be true that there are people out there who are truly unaware of their actions
while committing a crime, but if they are unaware should these people still be held responsible and
punished for the crime? In the editorial, In Defense of the Insanity Defense , by Robert L. Scandoff,
the author uses credible sources, counterarguments, and does not cherry pick information; however, in
the article Abolish the Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity Plea , by the Lancaster News Era, the author
uses cherry picking, connotation, and has no sources. Being able to identify cherry picking and

Criminal Sentencing
Criminal Sentencing Decisions within the American Judicial System
Abstract
A major issue in criminal justice is sentencing. America s court system has struggled to balance
competing goals and policies in regards to criminal sentencing. This paper explores the ideas behind
changes made to the sentencing policies with the United States judicial system. It begins with an
overview of the goals behind criminal sentencing. This paper concludes with a discussion on the
current status and disparities involving criminal sentencing.
Criminal Sentencing
In The Limits of Criminal Sanction, Herbert Packer said that criminal punishment should serve two
purposes; deserved infliction of suffering on evil doers and the prevention of crime ... Show more

Incapacitation is another goal behind criminal sentencing. The idea is simple. By incapacitating
someone (keeping them in prison) they will no longer be able to commit crimes against society. Long
prison sentences are not the only means of incapacitating someone. Incapacitation looks at reducing
the offender s ability and opportunity to commit future crimes. This can be done through intensive
supervision, electronic monitoring, and even the requirement to register as a sex offender can be seen
as incapacitating. Incapacitation assumes that most criminals will continue to commit crimes if they
are not restrained.
Another goal of criminal sentencing is to rehabilitate. Rehabilitation is a programmed effort to alter
the attitudes and behaviors of inmates and improve their likelihood of becoming law abiding citizens
(Seiter, 2008, p. 32). Rehabilitation assumes that criminals have underlying problems that are the
cause of their criminality and that if these causes are treated, the offender can return to society and
possibly provide some type of restitution for the victims of their crimes.
Restitution is also a goal of criminal sentencing. Many sentences with or without confinement also
involve some type of compensation, either in fines paid to the government or in damages paid to the

Professional Soccer Player As A Professional Athlete Player
Is there such thing as the dream job? For many, being a professional athlete is like the perfect job. For
me, that is too vague. I have done my research, and it is clear to me now what a great job being a
professional soccer player is. Soccer players participate in the world s most popular sport, which is
soccer (Facts on File). Although, their job isn t always just to play the sport. They must also deal with
the media and everything the club they are in asks of them. Being a soccer player can be tough, but it
comes with many perks and benefits. In addition, little education is required, but lots of skill and
characteristics are needed. Professional soccer players might live the dream lives of many. They play a
very fun sport and get paid to do so. Although, it may come with a lot of stress if they do not manage
it correctly. A lot is expected from these players week in and week out. Not only do they have to work
on the pitch, but also with sponsors and the press. In addition, this career is not a lifelong career, so it
is crucial to be prepared for when you retire. One of the greatest parts of being a soccer player is the
high salary you will receive (Facts on File). Since being a professional athlete does not require much
study, a high school diploma is good enough to become a soccer player (Facts on File). Yet, training
for the sport is still needed, and can be expensive before becoming a pro. Soccer players normally
show interest in the sport since their youth.

The Controversial Restoration of the Sistine Chapel
The restoration of the Sistine Chapel in the 1980 s and 90 s was very controversial. This issue began
because Michelangelo, the painter of the Sistine Chapels ceiling, did the painting as a fresco. This
means that the paint was absorbed in the wall, thus becoming part of the wall itself. Like many other
walls and building, over time they began to crack and deteriorate. During the time of the consideration
of the restoration of the chapel, the fresco had been up for over 500 years. As one would expect, there
had been many cracks in the ceiling and the coloring of the ceiling was becoming dull. The ceiling
was also dusty and covered in grime from candle smoke and burning coal. Before the newest and most
major renovation of the chapel, there had been other previous smaller ones. In some of these
restorations, a type of glue was used to temporarily brighten the dark colors. Unfortunately, the glue
helped to attract more dust and grime, which took away from the efforts of restoring it. In one attempt
to restore the ceiling, wine and bread were used to clean it. I cannot not see how anyone would think
that would work and it obviously did not. The most current restoration began in the 1980 s and lasted
for about twelve to fourteen years. This restoration included some of the best restorers worldwide. The

  • 2. Bacterial Infection Paper The first step in any bacterial infection involves the attachment of bacteria to the host surface, which followed by colonisation, and infection. Streptococcus pneumonia is a significant human pathogenic bacterium; organism causes invasive diseases such as sepsis, meningitis, pneumonia and some more disease in human. In pneumonia it attaches to nasopharyngeal cells through interaction of bacterial surface adhesins. Tao Wang et al (47) reported that Big Domain ( bacterial immunoglobulin like) of SP0498 a surface protein is a novel Ca2+ binding module, and suggested important role of the Big domain in many essential calcium dependent cellular processes. Such domain are also reported in Escherichia coli intimin, and Yersinia pseudotuberculosis ... How an increase in cytoplasmic Ca2+ is associated with tumbling and a decrease is associated with running remains to be determined. Moreover In the same study (4) they showed that mutant for sensory receptor were did not responded to chemical stimuli sensed by them, which remain unexplained?, though they speculated/propose that increase and decrease in cytoplasmic ca level is linked with the phosphorylation state of cheY protein which in turn controls tumbling and Running, there are no concrete evidences to support this hypothesis as of yet. Various Ca2+ antagonists (and Ca2+channel blockers) used in animal research, are (now) known to inhibit bacterial chemotaxis which includes ω Conotoxin GVIA , Gallopamil , verapamil, diltiazem, tiapamil, nifedipine, and nitrendipine to name some .E.coli Cell treated with (these) ca channel antagonist showed running bias i.e. that ca antagonist running was predominant and tumbling was inhibited (2,). What is the reason behind this bias is not known yet and since animal like Ca2+ channels do not appear to be coded for by the E. coli genome , it is unexplained why Ca2+ antagonists ... • 3. Blade Faults in Gas Turbines Gas turbines are often exposed to ingestion of particles suspended in the air such as dust, ash, salt, ice, water droplets, and sand particles during operation. These particles are the most important factor that cause blade fault in all types of gas turbines. The most common types of blade fault are fouling, erosion, tip clearance increase, water ingestion, and foreign object damage (FOD) [1]. Most of mentioned cases cause roughness over the blade surfaces that deteriorate the gas turbine performance. Different numerical methods were used to solve the gas turbine cascade flow field in recent years. In most of these studies, the quasi three dimensional Navier Stokes analysis is used. On the other hand, in some studies the flow fields were experimentally tested. Sheets of sandpaper with different equivalent sand grain roughness heights have been used by researchers to produce roughness on surface of gas turbine blades placed in a wind tunnel and applying flow conditions of their case. 1.1 Experimental work Yun et al. [2] used sheets of sandpapers with equivalent sand grain roughness heights of 106 and 400 micrometers. The performance tests have been conducted in a low speed, single stage, axial flow turbine having roughened blades. They showed that for blades with roughnesses of the fully rough regime (400 ), the normalized efficiency decreases by 11 percent for stator vanes and 8 percent for rotor blades. For blades having a roughness in the transitionally rough regime (106 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Abstract Principles Of Sexuality And Race The abstract principles of sexuality and race have always been delicate ideas for society to comprehend. When you Google the word sexuality , you do not come across a gender specified definition that constricts males and females to desire only one another. It simply states that it is the sexual habits and desires of a person. Any person, male, female, transgender, or otherwise, can be sexual with whomever they desire. So why is the dichotomy of homosexuality versus heterosexuality such a pervasive notion? There are multiple myths and facts about sexual orientation. Case Western Reserve University, located in Cleveland, Ohio, is one of the most LGBT friendly campuses in the country. On their website they host an page about their gender friendly campus that answers any common questions one might have about such issues. No one knows what causes sexual orientation. Many lesbian, gay and bisexual people know that they are attracted to members of their own sex at an early age, sometimes as young as 6 or 7 years old. Others learn much later in life, in their 30 s, 40 s or later still. Some research indicates that sexual orientation is determined between birth and age 3, but no one is sure what causes particular orientations. As for race, considering and supporting the theory of color on individuals and collaborating the ideas to our community, in my opinion, seems to be much more of a delicate matter than sexuality. The concept of race is a modern concept. In the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Legacy Of The Sierra Club Adams As Adams pursued his work in both art and conservation the various lines of his life were beginning to converge revealing both the unity and the disjunction of his ideas. 137 His impact was felt on both spheres of influence. The unique aspect that surrounds Iran is it is the only predominantly Shi a nations that is under a Shi a authority; one way to understand Iran is that it is the polar opposite of what the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is. Iran remains isolated in the region, not as isolated as it was before Saddam Hussein was in charge of Iraq but it is still slowly spreading its influence around the GCC and surrounding nations through Hezbollah, which had support from Iran and is present in Lebanon, Bahrain, Yemen and Syria. These devices, called fog nodes, can be deployed anywhere with a network connection: on a factory floor, on top of a power pole, alongside a railway track, in a vehicle, or on an oil rig. Any device with computing, storage, and network connectivity can be a fog node. Examples include industrial controllers, switches, routers, embedded servers, and video surveillance cameras. IDC estimates that the amount of data analyzed on devices that are physically close to the Internet of Things is approaching 40 percent. • 13. Life Events And Stress, Stressors And Frustration Boot Camp Days Finally, it has come, the final paper! Although I will miss all the great things we learn about in class every week, I will not miss having to think of information to type in these papers. This week the topics I have chosen to discuss are; life events and stress, stressors and frustration. The best way I can relate to these topics is by talking about my personal experiences at Navy Boot Camp. The worst eight and a half weeks of my life. The Good Beginning My journey began, I was leaving the Tampa airport and heading to Chicago, destination Great Lakes, to become a sailor. At the airport, I was full of many different thoughts and emotions, being excited, but scared of what was to come. Arriving at the Chicago O Hare airport we were met by a group of Petty Officers who were a lot nicer than I thought they would be. Before we left the airport, we had to throw out anything we were not supposed to have, lip balm, lotions, soaps, we couldn t even keep our toothbrushes. That was fine, at least I wasn t getting yelled at. Then we loaded up onto a bus and headed to the base. The Start of the Worst Arriving on base, we pulled up to a building and quickly loaded off the bus and filed in one by one. There were three different people all yelling different directions. Sadly, the Petty Officers who picked us up from the airport, were not Recruit Division Commanders (RDC). My hope of everything continuing to go well was shot down very quickly. Just being there five ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Feminism Is A Very Loaded Word Feminism is a very loaded word. Many people have their own definition for it. Generally, it is defined as equality between men and women. Women and men should have equality within the house and as mothers and fathers. Children rely much on mothers because of the reproductive labor that is traditionally done by them. As such, they need to be included in such a discussion. Within a household, women and men, mothers and fathers, have different roles and responsibilities, much of which are based on the person s gender. Typically, women or mothers are responsible for the emotional, social, and physical well being of her family (Lober 80), most of the hands on family work (Lorber 81), and keep up of the house. The men or fathers are usually seen as the bread winners of the family. Due to this and the work they do outside of the house, men usually have little to no responsibilities to the family and within the home. It is not unusual for women to clean the house, make sure the children are well taken care of, and cook while the man, or father, is at work. When he gets back home, after work, it is expected for him to relax and unwind. Although they are a couple with similar obligations, the divide of them is not equally distributed among the two and offer either one different results. Not only is the work that is done within the house hold unequal, in favor of the man, women s work is also invisible and usually unpaid. Both women who stay at home or work both have ... Tomb Raider Research Paper Before Angelina Jolie took the mantle as Lara Croft in the movies, there was the iconic video game that has inspired a generation of players and video game enthusiasts. Tomb Raider that features Lara Croft was a hit and was critically acclaimed for a number of reasons. One, the game is packed with adventure, with the heroine, Lara Croft taking the lead in the exploration and discovery. Two, the video game was also about a female hero, something that was novel during the 1990s when games are dominated by male heroes. These are just two reasons why Tomb Raider has become a hit during 1990s among video game players. But it the influence and effect of Tomb Raider is not just felt in the movies, even the casino gaming industry managed to get inspired by the game and heroine. • 16. Narrative Essay On A Mouse In The Mouse Me and my friends just found a dead mouse in our classroom, and one of them suggested we hide it in Mrs Pratchett s jars of sweets. I was given the honor of putting the mouse in the jar. Before I did so, I made a last minute decision to turn the tables of our secret plan, because I would have to face risky consequences. Once we reached there, I ve started planning my own mouse plot by tricking my friends into thinking that I put the mouse in, when in reality I hadn t. We barged in the sweet shop, and we saw Mrs Pratchett s dissatisfied as usual. She grumbled because we barged in her sweet shop like a pack of wild cattle. After that, she went to the bathroom, making it the perfect time to put the mouse in. I told my friends to wait outside so just in case she walks out, she won t be expecting any tomfoolery. This was just step 1 of my scheme, and a wide, smug grin spread across my face as my plan came together. When she came out of the bathroom, I asked her if I could go there for a while. She stared at me for a full minute of silence, wiping the soot of her chin, and said I could, but I had to clean up afterwards. Drooping my arms, I headed to the bathroom and started desperately flushing the mouse in. Mrs Pratchett heard all of the flushing, and she came to the door to see what was going on. It was a miracle that her bathroom door had a lock option on it, because if there wasn t , my plan could have been a total bust. I washed my hands twice to get the mouse s germs off my hands (the water there wasn t very sanitary!), and came out like nothing unusual happened. I was starting to get a jumpy feeling about how my mouse plot was running so smoothly (though I can t really call it a mouse plot anymore because I threw away the mouse.) I told my friends to come inside, and they all have the same jumpy feeling like I did, with big, smiling faces on the prank. I was chuckling quietly to see the look on their faces when they realize who I really pranked. I whispered to Thwaites that the mouse was in the candy corn jar, so he asked for a pound of them. I even pulled out a few bucks to emphasize the prank. She unscrewed the jar and she didn t find any trace of mouse in there. Confused, Thwaites asked her to keep ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Alan Paton s Cry, The Beloved The Country History is known to repeat itself, as evidence by the many groups that have suffered racial and ethnic discrimination. Hitler created prejudice against the Jews during World War II. Southerners discriminated against the Blacks, leading up to the Civil War, and during the Apartheid, the Natives were segregated from the Whites. In Alan Paton s Cry, the Beloved the Country, the main character Stephen Kumalo goes through a journey to restore his tribe. During his journey, he discovers and learns of the injustices in South Africa. Through the parallels and contradictions of biblical allusions, Alan Paton is able to explain the impact of racial inequality in South Africa, but signifies how unconditional love and hope can be used to overcome fear and bring restoration to both the land and it s inhabitants. Arthur s allusion represents the overall battle of good versus evil and the fight for equality. King Arthur and Arthur Jarvis were well liked, and respected by the people. Paton states the church had been too small for all who wanted to come (181), and this is the ultimate representation of the respect that Arthur receives. King Arthur had the Knights of the Round Table where everyone at the table was seen as the same, while Arthur Jarvis wishes for sameness of both races and his death is seen as a major tragedy. The reader is able to learn about what many characters think of him in the aftermath of his death, this is a terrible loss for South Africa said the white priest. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Baumrind Parenting Style Parenting Styles Hanna Lagman Los Angeles Harbor College Abstract Parenting styles play an important role in a child s development. Diana Baumrind identified four parenting styles: authoritative, authoritarian, indulgent, and neglectful. According to Baumrind, the authoritative style works best. In order to understand parenting practices in other cultures, Mexican families and Caucasian Non Hispanic families will be compared. It is hypothesized that the Mexican families utilize the authoritarian parenting style, while the Caucasian Non Hispanic parents utilize authoritative parenting style. All families were given a questionnaire to compare the parent s parental practices across two cultural groups. It was anticipated that the families would differ in parental styles; however, there were no differences between the parenting styles within the cultural groups. Parenting Styles Developmental Theory In 1971, Diana Baumrind categorized different parenting styles by observing middle class parents interacting with their children (Belsky, 2010, p. 201). Baumrind s parenting styles influence the field of child development and have been widely cited. Also to ensure a fair test the beetroot should be from the same batch as different beetroots may have different membranes but if they are all from the same batch the membranes should be the same, so I should use beetroot from the same batch. I have also been exposed stories from my parents, about our ancestors, who suffered from alzheimer s, a disease that contributes to chronic memory loss. Because of this, I became very curious about amnesia, as well as the concept of memory loss as a whole. Prior to my research, I created a list of questions that I intended on answering. The questions that I had were the following: How can we prevent amnesia and memory loss? What are the side effects of amnesia? And, what are the different types of amnesia? Overview ... One topic that I am specifically interested in is the relation of self esteem and bullying. I would predict that there would be a negative correlation between the two variables, as I believe that bullying is prominently done by those students whom have lower levels of self esteem. Research Question: How is self esteem related to bullying? I believe that this research question would be most supported by correlational research because the results will allow me to see if there is a relationship between self esteem and bullying. If I find that there is in fact a relationship, then I will have the ability to build programs within the school that focus on self esteem in order to reduce, or stop, bullying from happening. But the amount of data collected far exceeds the amount needed to accomplish this. And despite the size and pervasive nature of the industry, the general public knows very little about what they do. Portugal then expanded its empire down the western coast of Africa to the Congo, along the western coast of India, and eventually to Brazil and to the Atlantic islands. Although the Portuguese did not rule over a land mass, their possession of the islands and coastal ports gave them control of the trade routes. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Example Of Doublethink This is a clip which shows a compilation of multiple different news outlets repeating or saying the same phrase. A media conglomerate called Sinclaire and they started buying local news organizations. What occurred which is shown in this video is that they give forced memos that they have to read verbatim to all of the news outlets they own. The issue here is that when people watch the news, they do not know that the anchors are forced to say this. When they watch the news, they have no reason to doubt their trusted news source. This video illustrates the concept of doublethink. Doublethink is where one believes or accepts contrary beliefs at the same time. The process has to be conscious, or it would have insufficient precision, but it also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Marry Parker Follet Mary Parker Follett (3 September 1868 18 December 1933) was an American social worker, management consultant and pioneer in the fields of organizational theory and organizational behavior. She also authored a number of books and numerous essays, articles and speeches on democracy, human relations, political philosophy, psychology, organizational behavior and conflict resolution. Along with Lillian Gilbreth, Mary Parker Follett was one of two great women management gurus in the early days of classical management theory. She admonished overmanaging employees, a process now known as micromanaging, as bossism and she is regarded by some writers as the mother of Scientific Management. As such she was one of the first women ever invited to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The New State, Follett ponders many of the social issues at hand today. It is a mistake to think that social progress is to depend upon anything happening to the working people: some say that they are to be given more material goods and all will be well; some think they are to be given more education and the world will be saved. It is equally a mistake to think that what we need is the conversion to unselfishness of the capitalist class. [9] Pawelec, (1998) (now Ann Deschenes) found obscure reference pointing to Mary Parker Follet having coined the term Transformational Leadership . She quote: Rusch, Edith A. • 35. The Importance Of Proteins Proteins are the metabolic workhorses of the cell; they engage in a variety of essential activities ranging from enzymatically catabolizing macromolecular food sources to serving as structural components that maintain cell stability. Maximizing protein function relies on intricate non covalent interactions occurring on the secondary, tertiary, and quaternary levels that help determine the overall shape of the protein. In their native states, proteins will assume the most energetically favorable configuration. Occasionally however, cells are exposed to exogenous disruptions such as heat stress. Heat Stress can compromise protein three dimensional structure. Hydrophobic residues tend to be buried in the interior of the protein but when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... sHSPs are a ubiquitous class of chaperones found across all kingdoms of life. sHSP range in size from 12 42 kilo Daltons in large oligomers of 12 to 32 subunits and the structure is homologous across all species. The sHSP monomer consists of three domains: a disordered N terminal arm, a beta sandwich α crystallin domain, and a flexible C terminal extension. The N terminal domain is the most variable region with little conservation between species. Experimental evidence also suggests N terminal involvement in substrate binding and protection. The α crystallin domain is the most highly conserved region and adopts a β sandwich conformation composed of 7 to 8 anti parallel β strands (Basha et al, 2012). The C terminus contains an I X I motif, which helps to satblizie the oligomeric form of the sHSP (Basha et al, 2012). Data from previous studies suggest that the inactive sHSP takes on the oligomer conformation Upon stress, these oligomers assemble into active dimeric species, exposing previously inaccessible hydrophobic surfaces that can then interact with nonpolar patches on the misfolded substrate, capturing them in large complexes. The sHSP substrate complexes maintain the substrate in a folding competent state for extended periods of time. Biologically this is of utmost importance since it is ... • 37. Analysis Of In Defense Of The Insanity Defense The current American Justice System has many issues, one in particular is the insanity defense. Defendants have used this plea in courts for many years, which have led to massive debates. The insanity plea weighs heavily in our society. A society that demands for justice. However, some people praise it as if it was sent from the heavens above. On the other hand, there are many people who view it as an unnecessary evil. The insanity defense is rooted in a basic principle of justice; this it is unfair to hold persons responsible for their actions when they don t know, or can t control, what they are doing (Worth 16), it may be true that there are people out there who are truly unaware of their actions while committing a crime, but if they are unaware should these people still be held responsible and punished for the crime? In the editorial, In Defense of the Insanity Defense , by Robert L. Scandoff, the author uses credible sources, counterarguments, and does not cherry pick information; however, in the article Abolish the Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity Plea , by the Lancaster News Era, the author uses cherry picking, connotation, and has no sources. Being able to identify cherry picking and conformational bias in a writer s work is important because these writing techniques can either liberate a criminal or imprison a mentally ill person. • 38. Analysis Of The Thinking Out Loud Video After watching the three videos, I had a very differing opinions about all of them. The one that stuck out to me the most, and certainly not in a good way, was the Thinking Out Loud video. Obviously, the interpreter was not qualified to be doing that type of work. After watching the video, the first time with the sound on, I watched it again with the sound off to see if I could understand her signing. Unfortunately, I did not understand what she was saying. In terms of ethical considerations, or in this case lack thereof, there is absolutely no regard toward assuring equal access to her consumers. I do not recall her even completing one full sentence or thought when I was watching with the sound off and no captions. I did notice that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Per this assignment, I interviewed a Deaf individual named Alyssa Kovatch. Her reactions to the videos were nearly identical to mine. We thought the same things about the videos, especially the Thinking Out Loud one. During our FaceTime interview, Alyssa said she was Awful and that she Could not understand the video at all unless [she] read the captions. She also said that she did not like how in the Boston Blizzard video she had to read the captions for the whole first part of the video since the interpreter was not shown until later. Even when the interpreter was being shown, Alyssa said it was difficult to see her. She said that in emergency situations it is absolutely important for interpreters to be shown in focus, or at least on the side of the screen in a separate bubble. Alyssa did say that she appreciated the first and the last videos much more than she appreciated the middle one. Along with interviewing a Deaf Individual, I also spoke with (retired) certified interpreter Debbie Drobney. Debbie had very few, if any, positive things to say about the second video, much like both Alyssa and I. She couldn t even sign the year 2016 right, Debbie said during our interview. • 39. Criminal Sentencing Criminal Sentencing Decisions within the American Judicial System Abstract A major issue in criminal justice is sentencing. America s court system has struggled to balance competing goals and policies in regards to criminal sentencing. This paper explores the ideas behind changes made to the sentencing policies with the United States judicial system. It begins with an overview of the goals behind criminal sentencing. This paper concludes with a discussion on the current status and disparities involving criminal sentencing. Criminal Sentencing In The Limits of Criminal Sanction, Herbert Packer said that criminal punishment should serve two purposes; deserved infliction of suffering on evil doers and the prevention of crime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Incapacitation is another goal behind criminal sentencing. The idea is simple. By incapacitating someone (keeping them in prison) they will no longer be able to commit crimes against society. Long prison sentences are not the only means of incapacitating someone. Incapacitation looks at reducing the offender s ability and opportunity to commit future crimes. This can be done through intensive supervision, electronic monitoring, and even the requirement to register as a sex offender can be seen as incapacitating. Incapacitation assumes that most criminals will continue to commit crimes if they are not restrained. Another goal of criminal sentencing is to rehabilitate. Rehabilitation is a programmed effort to alter the attitudes and behaviors of inmates and improve their likelihood of becoming law abiding citizens (Seiter, 2008, p. 32). Rehabilitation assumes that criminals have underlying problems that are the cause of their criminality and that if these causes are treated, the offender can return to society and possibly provide some type of restitution for the victims of their crimes. Restitution is also a goal of criminal sentencing. Many sentences with or without confinement also involve some type of compensation, either in fines paid to the government or in damages paid to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Professional Soccer Player As A Professional Athlete Player Is there such thing as the dream job? For many, being a professional athlete is like the perfect job. For me, that is too vague. I have done my research, and it is clear to me now what a great job being a professional soccer player is. Soccer players participate in the world s most popular sport, which is soccer (Facts on File). Although, their job isn t always just to play the sport. They must also deal with the media and everything the club they are in asks of them. Being a soccer player can be tough, but it comes with many perks and benefits. In addition, little education is required, but lots of skill and characteristics are needed. Professional soccer players might live the dream lives of many. They play a very fun sport and get paid to do so. Although, it may come with a lot of stress if they do not manage it correctly. A lot is expected from these players week in and week out. Not only do they have to work on the pitch, but also with sponsors and the press. In addition, this career is not a lifelong career, so it is crucial to be prepared for when you retire. One of the greatest parts of being a soccer player is the high salary you will receive (Facts on File). Since being a professional athlete does not require much study, a high school diploma is good enough to become a soccer player (Facts on File). Yet, training for the sport is still needed, and can be expensive before becoming a pro. Soccer players normally show interest in the sport since their youth. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Controversial Restoration of the Sistine Chapel The restoration of the Sistine Chapel in the 1980 s and 90 s was very controversial. This issue began because Michelangelo, the painter of the Sistine Chapels ceiling, did the painting as a fresco. This means that the paint was absorbed in the wall, thus becoming part of the wall itself. Like many other walls and building, over time they began to crack and deteriorate. During the time of the consideration of the restoration of the chapel, the fresco had been up for over 500 years. As one would expect, there had been many cracks in the ceiling and the coloring of the ceiling was becoming dull. The ceiling was also dusty and covered in grime from candle smoke and burning coal. Before the newest and most major renovation of the chapel, there had been other previous smaller ones. In some of these restorations, a type of glue was used to temporarily brighten the dark colors. Unfortunately, the glue helped to attract more dust and grime, which took away from the efforts of restoring it. In one attempt to restore the ceiling, wine and bread were used to clean it. I cannot not see how anyone would think that would work and it obviously did not. The most current restoration began in the 1980 s and lasted for about twelve to fourteen years. This restoration included some of the best restorers worldwide. The Nippon Television Corporation, a Japanese television company, donated 3 million dollars to fund this project and in return required that they had exclusive television and ...
