A New Form Of Punishment And Social Control
As school issues such as school refusal (Lock 1986) and ADHD/ADD (Conrad and Bergey 2014)
began to be recognised as serious social issues, these socially undesired behaviours became
regarded as medical conditions in which require helps from medical experts. Anthropologists
provided critical views of contemporary medicineand scientific understanding of human conditions
and struggles (Kleinman 1996, Lock 1993 and Rhodes 1996). Conrad and Schneither describe the
medicalization of deviance as deviant behaviours that were once defined as immoral, sinful, or
criminal have been given medical meanings. Some say that rehabilitation has replaced punishment,
but in many cases medical treatments have become a new form of punishment and social control
(1992, 1). Rhodes points out our attitude toward medicalization as ...the vulnerability of self, body,
and society to illness engages us, to a greater or lesser extent depending on context and inclination,
in the same problem faced by clinicians: the need to act, to provide useful understanding or in
some other way to contribute to the alleviating suffering (1996, 170). Medical labels for common
anxiety among university students, therefore, are associated a concern that those abnormal
psychological conditions lead to other social issues in Japanese society. Medicalization of
hikikomori and NEET highlight and illustrate the process in which how clinical conceptions
expand into everyday life and how Japanese society addresses social

Statement Of Purpose For Metallurgy And Material Engineering
Statement of Purpose
It was an introductory class on physical chemistry and our chemistry teacher was teaching us the
allotropes of carbon. At the end of the class, he asked us, What do you think makes a small piece
of diamond more precious than tons of charcoal, although they are made up of same carbon
atoms? Is it its appearance? No. It s the pressure that the carbon endured for thousands of years to
become a diamond . A diamond is just a piece of charcoal that handled the pressure well , he
quoted. No pressure, No diamond. Pressure shapes a diamond, in the same way, persistence in
challenging situation shapes a man I still remember all these words from my high school chemistry
teacher which made a huge impact in me and made me realize that perseverance is the key to reach

Although metallurgy and materials science studies dates back many centuries, its scope and
popularity remain very little and novel in India. In a country where millions of mechanical,
electrical and computer engineers are bred, very few materials engineers are produced. During my
freshmen and sophomore year, I had courses in electronics and mechanical technology which
blended and integrated mechanical engineering and electrical electronics engineering with materials
science. I was fascinated by the way Materials Engineering was breaching the wall between
different fields of studies and promoting interdisciplinary study and research

Blood In Macbeth
Blood, whether it be the color, smell, or importance is vital to life itself. However, almost
exceeding the importance of physical blood is the imagery of blood found throughout William
Shakespeare s, Macbeth. The continual presence of blood in Shakespeare s, Macbeth is constantly
reminding the audience how significant the consequences of the characters actions are. The
imagery of blood in Shakespeare s, Macbethrepresents the guilt felt by Macbeth and Lady Macbeth
due to their brutal actions, thus developing the theme the corrupting power of unchecked ambition .
As their guilt grows, so does the importance of the blood imagery and how it haunts both characters,
staining their soul.
It s not until after the murder of King Duncan that Macbeth s guilt begins to manifest. This is
expressed through Macbeth s obsession with King Duncan s blood staining his hands when
Macbeth states:
With all great Neptune s ocean wash this blood Clean from my hand? No, this my hand will rather
The multitudinous seas incarnadine, Making the green one red (II ii, 28).
An ocean represents purity and life, Macbeth expresses how even an entire ocean could not wash
his hands clean from the foul deed he had committed. In turn, the ocean would turn into blood.
Shakespeare uses blood to symbolize Macbeth s guilt and horror over his crimes. Shakespeare also
uses blood to symbolize Macbeth s acceptance

Media s Influence On The Socialization Of A Child
As media technology now offers various ways to access TV contents, such as on the Internet,
cell phones and iPad, it leads children to spend more time watching animations and movies.
According to a Kaiser family foundation study, 8 10 year old children expose average 7 hours 51
minutes to media in a typical day. 11 14 year old children and 15 18 year old children spend
average 11 hours in a day. (Victoria et al.) Children thoroughly perceive and accept the concepts
from media, so it is the powerful medium and cramming education method that control
consciousness and create the imitation. Animations and movies, as the most accessible media,
significantly have an effect on the process of socialization of children to form personality traits and
the concept of the gender.
Gender has been portraying stereotypically for a long period in the history of media. Media plays a
very vital role in the socialization of a child or even adult, through different the storyline, characters
and dramatization of different genders through different theme and portrayals. Traditionally, media
have broadened the representation of male. In the presence of male and female characters in
animated cartoons, 67.4% characters were male and only 32.6% were female. It showed that male
characters out numbered female characters in the animated cartoons broadcasted from the
worldwide popular channel, Cartoon Network.(Ahmed, Shumaila, and Juliana A. Wahab) Disney s

Lakeland Case Study
Three Must Destinations in Lakeland
To a tourist visiting Florida, there is a break he can pass on distant from the tedious rides in the
iconic theme parks of Disneyworld in Orlando or the fine white sand beaches in the Tampa area.
This is particularly so when the trip involves a family. Cost notwithstanding, Lakeland, located 42
minutes from the theme parks from the East and about 45 minutes West to the Tampa shores of
Central Florida, offer places to travel that are loose on the budget.

Radha, as the only one of all the characters in the novels...
Radha, as the only one of all the characters in the novels is a true representing of the modern
Indian woman. In her study of the imaginary of Indian women in literature, Rajan states that The
image of the new Indian woman is of course derived primarily from the urban educated middle
class woman(Rajan 130) and describes her as attractive, educated, hardworking, and socially
aware (Rajan 131). In spite of her origin as a daughter of a middle class traditional family, while
studying and in the years following her education, Radha became well aware of her possibilities.

herself as of an independent young woman who can freely decide about ... Show more content on

This dilemma is inevitably the theme of the novel and Saadiya s pursuit of freedom can be seen as
a variation on the theme. The closer to the ideal of a housewife Radha gets, the more she feels the
need to escape. The more boundaries she crosses, however, the more she tends to get back to her
role of a wife. The longing for adventure as well as the guilt she feels while pursuing it is the
main driving power that makes her sway between her duty to Shyam and her attraction to Chris.
The two men stand for a safe yet dull and tiring life full of stereotypes in which she is unable to
realise herself fully on one hand and an exciting yet strange life full of the unexpected that
makes her feel alive again. She feels trapped by the expectation that are applied to her, such as
having a baby or being a glossy, silly wife (Nair 61) and struggles to find a way out so that she
could breath freely. While Chris gives her, at least in her eyes, the space she needs in able to
breathe freely, Shyam expects her to behave in the way his situation requires, denying her own
individual choices. His expectations ( Does she ever consider that such silly acts have
repercussions? Besides, what will my friends and their wives say if they find out? We have a
place in society. A standing that Radha has always treated rather carelessly ) stand in a contrast to
Radha s feelings. (nair 70)12

Wee Bag Band
On an average Friday night, O Kelly s Irish Pub on U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, is
filled to the brim with service members and civilians alike. In the midst of the noise and
commotion, sweet notes weave its way through the crowded space slowly drawing the attention
of the crowd. As the crowd quiets to hear the song, the band bursts into a lively Irish jig, starting
off the set with excitement. The Wee Bag Band played March 18 at O Kelly s Irish Pub as a part
of their third tour with Armed Forces Entertainment. It s very kind to be invited back; we believe
it is the first time that the band has been invited back three times, said Paul Strummer, a guitarist

music: traditional, which consists of the old tunes of long ago, popular Irish music and
contemporary Celtic music. The Wee Bag Band strives to play a mix of all of the genres. On the
bands website, it stated the charm of Irish music lies in its ability to appeal to people of all ages;
this is an essential part of its spirit and allure. People enjoy Irish music, said Strummer. We

The Importance of Proper Wine Storage
A. The Importance of Proper Wine Storage
While most of the commodities are consumed within 24 hours from the time of purchase, wines
are often preserved for long term storage and aging. Wine is one of the things that get better with
time when stored and aged properly but it can also spoil and deteriorate rapidly if kept in
inappropriate condition. Proper storage and aging will enhance the wine s flavor, color and quality
in general.
In order for us to better understand the concept of preserving and aging of wines, the following
critical elements should be taken into consideration.
1.Light
Wines, especially white wines should not be subjected to excessive amounts of light. Wines
should not be stored under direct sunlight and fluorescent lights with ultraviolet light in the
wavelength of 325 to 450 nm. Light may adversely react with the chemical compounds in wine
and create potential wine faults or defects which often leads to the wine having a lightstruck
aroma (or gouts de lumiere French for tastes of light). A wine with a lightstruck aroma is
characterized by a decrease in citrus aroma, while the intensity of unpleasant aroma increased.
Wine stored in dark area are mostly to maintain its clarity and citrus aroma thus, most wines are
packed in colored glass and stored in dark cellars.
2.Humidity
Humidity is also a critical element of wine storage to be considered especially if wine cork closures
and stoppers are used. The efficacy of the wine cork depends upon the

During Henry s free time, he would spend time working on building a gasoline engine ignited by
electricity. On June 4, 1896, at age 32, Henry completed his first successful horseless carriage
which was called the Quadricycle (http://www.hfmgv.org/exhibits/hf/). Soon after that, Henry
started working on making better automobiles and making them for sale. Henry joined with
investors to establish a company that would manufacturer automobiles. But then a year later, the
company was disbanded. Henry Ford designed a new car, the Model T. Henry built it in 1908
and was designed to be lighter, faster, and stronger. Henry had found and used Vanadium steel for
the Model T which was much stronger than regular steel. When Henry finished a Model T, he
would paint it black since that paint color dried the fastest. Ever since the Model T became popular
so quickly, Henry was trying to find a way to speed up manufacturing (http://www.history.com

a motorized conveyor belt which moved the cars to the workers, while the each worker add a
part to the car as the car pass them. The assembly line helped make time making cars go faster
and the cost. The assembly line made the cars cheaper. The Model T cars was sold for $850, then
dropped to $300. Between 1908 until 1927, Henry made about 15 million cars

Pisces Constellations
I chose the constellation of Pisces because I am a Pisces and love all things related to the ocean
and the goddess Aphrodite. Pisces is Latin for plural fish. Constellations have always interested
me. Some of my favorite are the big and little dipper. My mother and I used to call them the mother
and daughter of the sky. And the Piscesconstellation looks similar to me. However it s lore is much
more interesting than the mother and daughter of the sky.
It is said that long ago the Goddess Aphrodite and the God Eros who were under the control of a
terrible monster planned a wonderful escape. After many failed attempts they finally figured out the
one way they could escape the monster Typhon, was to jump into the sea and become fish.

My Speech On The Emergency Medicine Class
In the summer of 2014, I thought I had life completely planned out. I was enrolled at Rowan
Cabarrus Community College while still attending Mount Pleasant High School. I had just
started taking my Emergency Medicine class and had already completed two thirds of my fire
class. I volunteered at Northeast Cabarrus Fire Department and was so close to becoming an
interior firefighter, I could taste it. I never slowed down enough to think about God s plan for me.
I seemed to only care about creating my own plan and following through with it. My intentions
were to graduate high school and be completely done with my education. Graduating meant I was
free to spend my time chasing my dreams, but that changed on my way to my Emergency Medicine

I was overcome with an intense pain shooting from my neck to the area between my shoulders.
My breathing slowed and shortly was accompanied by my low moans as I tried to squeeze little

chest. I passed out for what felt like a long night s sleep, to only be awakened by the sound of the

At some point on that rainy day, I found myself consumed in complete and utter denial. It must

of my mother weeping at my bedside. I took the diagnosis like a bullet; it pierced my heart and

Analysis Of Meno By Socrates
We all have questions: what am I? What is a human being? What is the meaning of life? Where
are we going as a society? Sometimes we might wake up in a cold sweat at night and despair
about ever truly having the answers. We joke around with them. We brush them off. We do
anything but face them. We refuse to give them power over us. These are truly questions that need
to be asked that we have to confront because only with sound answers will we be able to go
forward in our lives meaningfully. Philosophyempowers us to ask the big questions, the questions
that matter. It is a way to not let the fear take over our lives, but to live without fear of the
unknown. Even if these questions seem too broad, too all encompassing they can be broken down...

Public opinion is what friends and neighbors spout out to us. The things that appear to be true.
Lessons we absorb without even truly thinking it over. What the media pumps out at us every
day. We get it from all angles, without second guessing it. But maybe it should be second
guessed. Meno is the perfect example of what happens when we don t philosophize, or question.
Meno goes out and gives grand speeches about virtue, all accumulations of what other people
have told him like Gorgias, but doesn t truly understand the subject. When Socrates asks him to
define virtue he can give examples but not an actual definition. Finally, Meno is rendered silent,
and he realizes that he truly doesn t have an answer to give Socrates. He has never questioned
himself or what he knows to be true, but has only had a bunch of unsupported opinions from
what other people have told him. He comes across as uneducated, and ill informed, because he
has never gone out to investigate for himself the true from the false. And he didn t even have
true opinions on his side. Under philosophy, all these various sources come under the scrutiny of
reason. Philosophy gets us to be proactive instead of simply reactive. We become the engines of
our lives, instead of the cog in a wheel, moving at the pace of everyone else s opinions or beliefs,
we spur our own thinking. Is what everyone else says about money, children, travel, or work
really true? Philosophy engages us in asking whether a long held thought or belief is really
logical on its own merit rather than simply saying that it must be correct on the merit of the person
or group that makes it look so, like Meno. Instead of a compilation of false opinions that we pass of
as ours, we truly have our own thoughts that when they come under scrutiny, we can powerfully
and confidently defend them as our

My Bubble Research Paper
In the past, I was not the most outgoing of people. I never spoke over others, and I only opened
my mouth when asked. I always let others walk over me because I feared confrontation. I lived
within my own bubble of safety. As long as I stayed within the boundaries of everything and
away from everyone, I convinced myself that this was the most efficient way to live. No
problems with anyone else, and no problems within my life. Although the life I lived was very
safe, it was also very colorless. This mindset of safety clouded over me and influenced almost all of
my choices.
I never seemed to muster up the courage to talk to new people and stayed within my circle of
friends. I never branched out, I never tried out for sports, or the school musical or anything new
because I feared the results would not turn out in my favor. Even food wise, I did not try new
things. Growing up in a Filipino household, I was offered a plethora of diverse cultural foods; I
however, had a very strict diet of apple slices and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. This tied to

Examples Of A Relationship Essay
Relationship Advice All you need is love. Relationships are the building blocks of a happy life. Not
taking into account the acquaintances, who you don t know anything about, your friends and loved
ones are the only place you can go to relax and feel at home. Healthy relationships are based on
trust, honesty, listening, knowing each other, valuing the strengths and accepting the differences. A
healthy relationship doesn t mean that it is always sunshine and rainbows. It is built upon the fact
that two people are ready to work through the low times and cherish the good times. Unhealthy
relationships show signs of jealousy, egoistic problems, disrespect, judgment, intimidation and
sometimes even violence. Assessment Start with assessing your relationships. Do... Show more

Ambitious people often cling together. You will never see a hippie having a healthy
relationship with a CEO. Their goals, paths and lives are entirely based on different structures.
Do you even have goals? Don t live a life of aimless existence. Be accountable for your life and
live for a purpose. Resolve conflicts Sometimes all you need to do is work on your differences.
No matter how charming two people find each other, a small conflict can lead to jealousy, hurt
and huge misunderstandings which can lead to suffering in the relationship. Show your
dedication towards the relationship and work on your issues. And afterwards you ll find your
relationship was worth more than you had assumed. Conclusion There is never a perfect person
and there is never a perfect relationship. All you can have is a fulfilling relationship and that ll
come from nowhere else but your own heart. Have a big heart and give your best to the
relationship, however cheesy that might sound. After all, real love is not like in the movies where
it s all about romantic dinners, nice music and luxury. It is about will, individuality, respect, trust

Essay on The Immorality of Child Labor
The Immorality of Child Labor
Child labor is a serious moral issue. There have been many controversial debates over whether it
should be legal or not. Two different viewpoints on the subject exist. Many argue that child labor is
morally wrong and that the children should not work, no matter how poverty stricken their family
might be. Advocates and major corporations that support child labor argue that it is good because it
gives poverty stricken families a source of income.
Child labor first appeared with the development of domestic systems (when people became
civilized). It was widely practiced in England, America, and other countries during the 16th 18th
centuries. Children were paid very little for the dangerous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Child labor is necessary in some places because poor families need the extra income this will bring.
Poverty is the reason many children go to work. In India, 37% of the urban and 39% of the rural

How Much Aid Should Wealthy Nations Provide for Developing Countries? Introduction Politics
have been important throughout history, but in the last century, government has changed a large
amount. With the rise of the standard of living in first world nations, there has been a push to help
bring everyone in the world up to a minimum standard. There have been many perspectives taken on
the issue, and there are many articles for helping and against helping developing nations shown
through political and historical lenses. A key question is how much aid wealthy nations should

Bandow argues through many perspectives in the political lens, creating a blending of voices that
makes his argument to have less government in developing nations more effective than if he relied
on one perspective alone. Article #2 The other article, Why developing countries get stuck with
weak institutions and how foreign actors can help by Brad Parks, Mark Buntaine, and Benjamin
Butch argues that the incentives given by donors only change cosmetic functions of the institution,
rather than changing actual results. An example is providing aid to improve staffing in an
organization to have people with better qualifications , but not dealing with the corruption in the
rest of country, so better qualified people still can t make things better. Rewarding countries for
doing things that are just cosmetic doesn t accomplish anything, but often gets the reward of more
aid. This group wants more change in the regimes of developing nations, which would lead to
actual development. The current system leads to stagnation of developing countries. The countries
put large amount of effort into achieving cosmetic goals to get the next financial quota, but they
are so poor they can t or won t do the harder steps to achieve real results. They just go for the
cheaper option. This was a well crafted argument, but only having a single piece of evidence to back

feeling of doing a cartwheel, but never felt the sensation a gymnast feels as they flip through the

hunger. Hunger so bad called starvation, malnutrition, undernourishment, or poverty. To make an
impact on the issue of hunger today, it stands important to consider the current issue and the
positive effects of donating to a strong organization.
Of all the children in the world, hunger remains the leading cause of death (Turk). An estimated
6,200 children die from hunger or hunger related causes each day (Feed My Starving Children).
That means about 3.1 million children every year. In children under the age of five, poor nutrition
continues to be responsible for forty five percent of the deaths (Turk).
The majority of hungry people can be found living in developing regions (World Hunger, Poverty
Facts, Statistics 2016). Of people suffering from hunger, ninety eight percent live in developing
regions. Numerically, this means 780 million people live in developing regions, out of the 795

A King Is The Ruler
A king is the ruler, the maker or laws, and is the heart and representation of a country. Dynasties
rise and fall, under the reign of their king. He is sometime called the chosen one, as he has the
power to either bring the country to its glory, or bring ruin and devastation. Thus, throughout the
history of Israel, the three kings Saul, David, and Solomon where all chosen by God, and each of
them had contributed to the development of the nation.
Before the time of the three kings, those who reign over Israel were the Judges. However, the
beginning of 1 Samuel unfolded the fading of their era (New International Version). By the time
the leadership lay in the hands of Eli and his ungodly sons, God had stopped speaking to them
and gave His guidance to Samuel (Hinson and Yates 163). Thus, in time, Samuel gained his
judgeship and led the nation to victory and peace. However, as he aged, the people wish to have
a king. Since Samuel son s did not proved to be faithful to the Covenant the way their father did,
the people believed it is necessary to requested for a king (Constable, Notes on 1 Samuel). They
claimed: (w)e want a king over us. Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead
us and to go out before us and fight our battles (1 Samuel 8: 19 20, NIV). Indeed, having a king
would give the power against other enemies. Nonetheless, the people of Israel ultimately failed to

Preparation Of Scarification And Stratification
Started this experiment on February 25th and we gathered all our results on May 3rd 2016.
When we started we tested Redbuds in 4 treatments and tested Peaches in 3 treatments. For the
Redbuds, we did a control group with nothing but wrapping it with a paper towel and storing it
into a Ziploc bag. Then we soaked redbuds in sulfuric acid without promix, and soaked them with
sulfuric acid with promix (not moist), and then for the last lot we wrapped redbuds with moist
promix. For peaches we also had a control group with just storing them in a Ziploc bag, and for
the second lot we placed that seeds in moist promix in a cooler. Finally, for the third lot we
soaked the seeds in water for a week and added moist promix and then placed in the cooler. As a
result, to this experiment of scarification and stratification we have seen that lot 3 for Redbuds
(scarification) germinated 16/40, which is a good amount of germination. For stratification with the
peaches only lot 2 germinated 1/20 which was more than the other lots.
Introduction:
Scarification in botany involves weakening, opening, or otherwise altering the coat of a seed to
encourage germination. Scarification is often done mechanically, thermally, and chemically. The
seeds of many plant species are often impervious to water and gases, thus preventing or delaying
germination. Any process designed to make the testa (seed coat) more permeable to water and
gases (and thus more likely to germinate) is known as scarification.

Comparison Of I Am Legend And The Omega Man
One of the purposes of science fiction is to confront modern society s issues through an
allegorical perspective. The films I am Legend and The Omega Man are both based off the
Richard Matheson novel, I am Legend. Both films follow Robert Neville as the last man on earth
and his struggle against fighting the creatures that come out at night. In each of these films the
creatures are representative of a fear that American society held at the time that the films were
made. The Omega Man, released in 1971, features a strong critical allegory about hippie culture in
response to the Manson Family murders. I am Legend, released in 2007, features an abandoned and
decaying New York City in the post 9/11 era. Each of these eras had a significant influence on how
the creatures that Robert combats are depicted. In each of these films, the creatures are
representative of the Other, and their portrayal in each film is indicative to how the producers
wished narrative American society to relate to the Other. Through analysis of each of film and its
portrayal of its respective creatures, the groups that the creatures... Show more content on

Because of the poor quality of the first adaption, The Last Man on Earth, which Matheson was
directly involved in, the producers of Omega Man chose to not seek out any input or help from
Matheson (Matheson.) This is possibly why the film significantly varies from the novel. While
the creatures in Matheson s novel are explicitly described as vampires, the monsters in Omega
Man are more similar to zombies who cannot stand bright lights. The Family, as they call
themselves, also have a high level of intelligence comparable to Neville s own. The film opens
with a coordinated attack on Neville as he returns to his home, and they are revealed to be able to
speak. Besides the pale skin and facial wounds, one would wonder what makes these creatures

Benefits Of Tourism Increased The Chinese Economy
When you think of China it is easy to conjure the image of the Great Wall or of actors from the
Peking opera with their faces painted with elaborate swirls of color. However, China s history and
culture are complex and ancient. With over three thousand years of written history and 56
government recognized ethnic groups with their own unique culture, there are many things that can
pique curiosity or intrigue the mind. Coupled with the beautiful geographic features and a growing
place within the world economy, hundreds are thousands of foreign travelers are drawn to China
each year. This has many benefits: tourism increased the Chinese economy, this in turn draws
foreign companies to do business in China, and this increases the number of people that want to
study the Chinese languageand culture, which in turn draws more tourists. It is a nearly endless
cycle. However, I would argue that even though there are positive benefits from both tourism and
the indusial growth in China, the negative effects to the Chinese population and the environment
outweigh those positive attributes.
In addition to being one of the world s oldest nations, China is the world s most populated
country. With a population consisting of 1,357,380,000 people as of 2014, China is home to
almost 25% of the world s population (World Bank, 2015). Of this massive population, roughly

Islamic Women Vs Western Feminism Essay
Although Western feminism started in the 1900s, yet, it didn t reach the Islamic world until most
recently, a couple of hundred years later than the West. Despite the fact that both of the feminism
movements come from totally different back grounds, and they are affected by different history and
culture, still, both of them aimed for women s best interests. Muslim women were profoundly
feeling aggrieved by the discrimination they have against them. They stereotypical reputation about
them in the West, and their presentation in the Western media didn t help either. They started and
supported a new fight to regain themselves the equal status they were granted by Islamcenturies ago.
Muslim women didn t like to be looked at as being backward and oppressed by men in a male
dominant world. According to the feminist historian Margot Badran, Islamic feminismis a feminist
discourse and practice articulated within an Islamic paradigm. Islamic feminism, which derives its
understanding and mandate from the Qur an, seeks rights and justice for women, and for men, in
the totality of their existence. (Badran, 2001)
To understand how Islamic feminism is different than the Western feminism, Hosseini suggested
that we can find the answers by:
examining the dynamics of Islamic feminism and its potential in the Muslim world. It is difficult
and perhaps futile to put the emerging feminist voices in Islam into neat categories and to try to

Narrative Essay About A Tough Move
A Tough Move It was a bright and sunny day. All the kids from ages 2 12 were outside playing
and enjoying in the sun. The other middle schoolers and high schoolers were sitting inside their
house in their room and texting their friends or doing homework . My mom says that with this
much technology people have stopped communicating with their voices and are now always
texting. I was in my room doing my weekend homework, when my dad rang the family
discussion bell and me and my brother Logan came down and sat around the family discussion
spot. No one spoke and it started to feel awkward. However I didn t have the courage to talk and
break the silence. Logan took his phone out and started texting his friends. Mom finally broke
the silence by saying, How is your weekend so far? She usually says somethings like how s your
day , how is your weekend , or how are you doing with your life when she doesn t know how to
start a conversation between people. Really good, I said actually starting the conversation. So
why did you call us here? My mom and dad sighed and looked at eachother and my dad said, We
have to ... move. My work got moved to Seattle. I was shocked, I had to have misheard him, I m
sorry dad, but could you please repeat that. We going to have to move to Seattle, my dad
repeated. Now I probably heard him right, but moving from Miami, Florida to Seattle,
Washington. Where did dad s job find a place across the world, I thought, if we re actually
moving, then my best friend, my school, my favorite ice cream shop, and my favorite library
would all go away. I really couldn t believe it. So we re moving from here to Seattle, Washington,
I said almost shouting. What about Cass, the ice cream, the warm weather, the beach, the
library, and the swamps and marshes. Where would all that go? Disappear into thin air? My mom
sighed and looked at me, We know that this would be hard for the two of you, but we need to be
there by Monday. Dad and I already booked the tickets and we re leaving on Sunday. We ve already
packed our stuff and all you guys have to do is pack your stuff and say all the goodbyes today. We

The Tyger Poem Figurative Language
Why did God create both gentle and fearful creatures? Why did God create a world with
bloodshed, pain and terror? The Tyger by William Blake, written in 1794 and included in his
collection Songs of Innocence and Experience , takes readers on a journey of faith. Through a
cycle of unanswered questions, William Blake motivates the readers to question God. Blake sees a
necessity for balance in the world, and suggests to the readers that God created a world with a
balance of good and evilso that humanity can see goodness more clearly through contrast and
comparison. This theme is achieved through the poem s imagery, figurative language, and structure.

The tiger was born in distant deeps or skies (787), implying that the tiger was created with the
creator s consciousness and fantasy. The verbs: twist , seize , and burnt all foreground the power
and strength of the creator. Through these lines: And what shoulder, and what art,/Could twist the
sinews of thy heart? (787), Blake demonstrates the creator s capability. Originally, sinews is
defined as the very tendon that enables the heart to beat. Blake uses sinews here as a metaphor for
strength, power, and life. Thus, to twist the sinews requires physical prowess. Blake seems to be
suggesting that the creator of the tiger is not only strong; but also, the creator believes in his own
strength and vision. The word shoulders represents responsibilities and burden; therefore the term
implies the risk the creator had to take for creating such a fearful creature.
Through these lines: What the hammer? what the chain?/In what furnace was thy brain?/What
the anvil? what dread grasp/Dare its deadly terrors clasp? (788) a vivid picture of the forging
process is presented in front of the readers. And the image of a powerful, courageous, and artistic
creator of the tiger deepens. It leads the readers to speculate who the creator could be if not God.

II. The Historical Context
Exchange of Scholars in early U.S. Higher Education
There is no record of any state or federally funded scholar exchange program until the twentieth
century. However, it wasn t uncommon for American students and scholars to study in educational
institutions abroad even early in the history of U.S. higher education. German universities were
usually the early favorites. Benjamin Franklin had become the first American to visit a German
university, when he went to Gottingen in 1766. In the 19th century many professors in the
American universities, including the ones that had German origin had studied in Germany and
most of them had received their doctoral degrees from German universities.
Number of students who were officially enrolled in German Universities between 1815 and 1870 is
estimated to be 640 (Goldschmidt, 1991). Although the number of students enrolled slightly

Electron microscopes are generally microscopes that use electrons as a source of illumination to
create an image, unlike light microscopes that relays on light. One of these types of microscopes
is Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), This microscope uses electrons to scan the surface of a
sample giving an observer a highly magnified image of the sample. The electron microscope has
been an amazing tool for research purposes around the world for many decades and the technique
was discovered and developed throughout the years.
A SEM consist of a column that is situated at the top which generates an electron beam, and at the
bottom there is a sample stage, a thermionic cathode in the column is heated up by an electric
current and emit electrons into the vacuum and below it is an anode connected to a ... Show more

Another limitation to this technique is that it s expensive to buy and to maintain.
SEM is limited to solid samples so all the liquids and gaseous materials cannot be viewed under this
microscope, also samples that cannot withstand vacuum pressures cannot be viewed under this
equipment. Since the scanning electron microscope is more focused on the surface it cannot
accurately give information about the bulk at once. For samples that are not metallic like
biological samples like tissues and cells coating is necessary since they are not electrically
conductive, this becomes a limitation because a living cell cannot be viewed since coating would
kill it so these are some of the

Dutch Golden Age Essay
From the late sixteenth century up until the end of eighteenth century, Dutch Republic attracted
numerous migrants from other European countries (Van Lottum, 2007). The province Holland
became a global center for trades, culture and science during this period, which is what we call
Dutch Golden Age now. A reflection of the flourishing economy in Holland is the Dutch East India
Company (VOC), which was sponsored by not only the government but also Dutch citizens. It
raised 6.5 million guilders at that time about three million euros which were worth billions at the
time. With the money, they started the company and overseas expansion. Moreover, in 1609, the
first stock exchange was born in Amsterdam. The stockholders of VOC could convert their... Show

In the seventeenth century, the German accounted for 43% of all immigrants in Holland cities
(Lucassen, 2002, cited in Van Lottum, 2007). The Thirty Years War between 1618 and 1648 had
a devastating influence on Germany. Many Germans were deprived of homes and even of lives.
The German mark devalued by 25% just between 1619 and 1622, while prices of goods such as
wheat and wine went up by as much as 300%. Combined with falling wages for German workers,
this led to a steep decline in quality of life (Kamen, 1968). That s why many Germans left their
home and settled in new places like the Netherlands. Most German immigrants to the Netherlands
were actually refugees due to Thirty Years War. The priority for them when arriving in the
Netherlands was to find a job to make a living. In Amsterdam, Typical occupations for not
Amsterdammers represented in the marriage registers were unschooled laborers in the construction
trades (96%), tailors (92%), bakers (92%), shoemakers (81%), and seamen (76%). Tailors, bakers,
and shoemakers were overwhelmingly Germans. (Phillips, 2008) German immigrants did the
physically demanding and lowly paid job in the Netherlands and became a huge source of cheap
labor, which has a positive effect on the Dutch financial success at the time. German immigrants
also made a great contribution to Dutch maritime trade. Dutch Republic was a seaborne empire, so

Air Force Core Values
In the early 1990 s the Chief of staff, Merrill A. McPeak, originally posted the six core values of
the United States Air Force which consisted of integrity, tenacity, courage, patriotism, competence,
and service. It wasn t until a few years later that those six core values were merged into three. The
three core values; integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do were officially
embraced by the United StatesAir Force in January of 1995 in order to define the type of character
expected from those within the branch of service (Lt Col Tower, P., Lt Col Dunford, D, n.d.).
Today these core values are the three basic fundamentals of life in the family known as the United
States Air Force. Every person in the United States... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Air Force defines integrity as always doing what is right even when no one is looking
(United States Air Force core values, 1997). Integrity itself is built off of many different key
traits; honesty, kindness, generosity, courage, responsibility and having respect not only for
others but yourself as well. Those are just some of the key traits. I will give prime examples of
each trait mentioned above from my own personal life to help you better understand integrity.
The first trait I would like to review with you is honesty. There are many different aspects of
honestly. It could be as simple as telling someone how you really feel or admitting to a mistake
you may have made in your life. Several years back, I was riding my bicycle at a high rate of
speed and flew around a sharp corner. I came around the corner so fast that I crashed my bicycle
into a brand new car that just happened to be parked on the side of the road. As you can
imagine, I flew over my handle bars and landed on the car. The accident left minor damage to
vehicle, but no one was around. I could have easily rode off and pretended it never happened,
though that would not have been the honest nor the right thing to do. I spoke with the owner of the
car and made arrangements to pay him back for the damage. Honesty is a key trait you must have

Organ Trafficking
Organ Trafficking Organ trafficking is one of the great issues that is faced by the society today.
It is a practice of stealing people s organ through surgery under the influence of drugs or from a
dead person, and the organs are normally sold in black market such as China. South Africa, and
Russia. WHO has estimated that one fifth of the 70,000 kidneys that are transplanted every year

Message to Garcia Essay
A Message to Garcia by Elbert HUBBARD 1899 Apologia HORSE SENSE If you work for a
man, in Heaven s name work for him. If he pays wages that supply you your bread and butter,
work for him, speak well of him, think well of him, and stand by him, and stand by the
institution he represents. I think if I worked for a man, I would work for him. I would not work
for him a part of his time, but all of his time. I would give an undivided service or none. If put to
the pinch, an ounce of loyalty is worth a pound of cleverness. If you must vilify, condemn, and
eternally disparage, why, resign your position, and when you are outside, damn to your heart s
content. But, I pray you, so long as you are a part of an institution, do not condemn... Show more

Initiative The world bestows its big prizes, both in money and in honors, for but one thing. And
that is Initiative. What is Initiative? I ll tell you: it is doing the right thing without being told.
But next to doing the thing without being told is to do it when you are told once. That is to say,
carry the Message to Garcia: those who can carry a message get high honors, but their pay is not
always in proportion. Next, there are those who never do a thing until they are told twice; such
get no honors and small pay. Next, there are those who do the right thing only when necessity
kicks them from behind, and these get indifference instead of honors, and a pittance for pay.
This kind spends most of its time polishing a bench with a hard luck story. Then, still lower
down in the scale than this, we have fellow who will not do the right thing even when some one
goes along to show him how and stays to see that he does it; he is always out of job, and receives
the contempt he deserves, unless he happens to have a rich Pa, in which case Destiny patiently
awaits around a corner with a stuffed club. To which class do you belong? 1899 A Message to

Analysis Of To Alhea From Prison By Richard Lovelace
If I have freedom in my love, and in my soul am free, Angels alone that soar above, enjoy such
liberty Richard Lovelace. To Althea from Prison is a poem written by Lovelace in 1642. Most
poems from the 1600s used the rhyme scheme: ABABCDCD. Which means that each stanza, the
first and third lines, the second and fourth, the fifth and seventh, and the sixth and eighth share a
similar end rhyme. This poem is one of Lovelace s famously known works and is often quoted by
many. Interestingly enough, the location of the poem s creation was the Gatehouse Prison to
inspire the negation of the Clergy Act of 1640. He presented a petition to the British parliament that
objected the Bishops Exclusion Bill. This lead to the creation of his poem... Show more content on

Additionally, Lovelace s imagery of love further shows his overall theme of mental imprisonment.
If I have freedom in my Love, And in my soul am free (Lovelace 29 30). Therefore, implying that
if you have the power to accept love into your heart, then your soul is free. With Lovelace s
imagery, we can see his depiction of how imprisonment is what you make of it. Moreover, the
use of symbols further broadens the poet s central idea of mentality. He implies that birds are
one of his symbols of independence, The birds that wanton in the air no such liberty (Lovelace 7
8). Lovelace utilizes birds as a symbol of freedom due to them being able to fly wherever they
choose on their own will. Lovelace also uses fishes as a symbol to demonstrate freedom with
wild animals. Fishes that tipple in the Deep Know no such Liberty (Lovelace 15 16). This depicts
that fish are a symbol of freedom, as they tend to swim around freely without any imprisonment.
On the other hand, the poet makes a connection between himself and his current situation of
imprisonment. He does this by making himself a symbol of a by relating to a linnet. When (like
committed linnets) I with Shriller throat shall sing (Lovelace 17 18). This symbolizes the poet as
he himself has committed the act of crime to imprison himself in the cell. Utilizing all these
symbols, the poet conveys his message that animals know how to be free as their mentality is free
spirited. Indeed, Lovelace

White supremacist prison gangs have the biggest growth rate of white supremacists. These
groups start in prison and continue to grow and stay active outside of prison when the inmates
gets out. The prison gangs are the ones committing organized crimes. The two most famous
prison gangs are both located in California, Aryan Brotherhood and Nazi Lowriders. Aryan
brotherhood was founded in 1964 by Irish bikers at the San Quentin state prison. This gang is
exclusively made of 20,000 white male members. Nazi Lowriders is a smaller gang with 1,000
to 5,000 members, but just as dangerous. In 1996, two members from Nazi Lowriders, Danny
Williams and Eric Dillard, beat and stabbed a black teenage to death. How these groups are

  • 2. A New Form Of Punishment And Social Control As school issues such as school refusal (Lock 1986) and ADHD/ADD (Conrad and Bergey 2014) began to be recognised as serious social issues, these socially undesired behaviours became regarded as medical conditions in which require helps from medical experts. Anthropologists provided critical views of contemporary medicineand scientific understanding of human conditions and struggles (Kleinman 1996, Lock 1993 and Rhodes 1996). Conrad and Schneither describe the medicalization of deviance as deviant behaviours that were once defined as immoral, sinful, or criminal have been given medical meanings. Some say that rehabilitation has replaced punishment, but in many cases medical treatments have become a new form of punishment and social control (1992, 1). Rhodes points out our attitude toward medicalization as ...the vulnerability of self, body, and society to illness engages us, to a greater or lesser extent depending on context and inclination, in the same problem faced by clinicians: the need to act, to provide useful understanding or in some other way to contribute to the alleviating suffering (1996, 170). Medical labels for common anxiety among university students, therefore, are associated a concern that those abnormal psychological conditions lead to other social issues in Japanese society. Medicalization of hikikomori and NEET highlight and illustrate the process in which how clinical conceptions expand into everyday life and how Japanese society addresses social ... Statement Of Purpose For Metallurgy And Material Engineering Statement of Purpose It was an introductory class on physical chemistry and our chemistry teacher was teaching us the allotropes of carbon. At the end of the class, he asked us, What do you think makes a small piece of diamond more precious than tons of charcoal, although they are made up of same carbon atoms? Is it its appearance? No. It s the pressure that the carbon endured for thousands of years to become a diamond . A diamond is just a piece of charcoal that handled the pressure well , he quoted. No pressure, No diamond. • 6. Blood In Macbeth Blood, whether it be the color, smell, or importance is vital to life itself. However, almost exceeding the importance of physical blood is the imagery of blood found throughout William Shakespeare s, Macbeth. The continual presence of blood in Shakespeare s, Macbeth is constantly reminding the audience how significant the consequences of the characters actions are. The imagery of blood in Shakespeare s, Macbethrepresents the guilt felt by Macbeth and Lady Macbeth due to their brutal actions, thus developing the theme the corrupting power of unchecked ambition . As their guilt grows, so does the importance of the blood imagery and how it haunts both characters, staining their soul. It s not until after the murder of King Duncan that Macbeth s guilt begins to manifest. This is expressed through Macbeth s obsession with King Duncan s blood staining his hands when Macbeth states: With all great Neptune s ocean wash this blood Clean from my hand? No, this my hand will rather The multitudinous seas incarnadine, Making the green one red (II ii, 28). An ocean represents purity and life, Macbeth expresses how even an entire ocean could not wash his hands clean from the foul deed he had committed. In turn, the ocean would turn into blood. In her study of the imaginary of Indian women in literature, Rajan states that The image of the new Indian woman is of course derived primarily from the urban educated middle class woman(Rajan 130) and describes her as attractive, educated, hardworking, and socially aware (Rajan 131). In spite of her origin as a daughter of a middle class traditional family, while studying and in the years following her education, Radha became well aware of her possibilities. The closer to the ideal of a housewife Radha gets, the more she feels the need to escape. The more boundaries she crosses, however, the more she tends to get back to her role of a wife. The longing for adventure as well as the guilt she feels while pursuing it is the main driving power that makes her sway between her duty to Shyam and her attraction to Chris. The two men stand for a safe yet dull and tiring life full of stereotypes in which she is unable to realise herself fully on one hand and an exciting yet strange life full of the unexpected that makes her feel alive again. She feels trapped by the expectation that are applied to her, such as having a baby or being a glossy, silly wife (Nair 61) and struggles to find a way out so that she could breath freely. While Chris gives her, at least in her eyes, the space she needs in able to breathe freely, Shyam expects her to behave in the way his situation requires, denying her own individual choices. His expectations ( Does she ever consider that such silly acts have repercussions? Besides, what will my friends and their wives say if they find out? We have a place in society. • 12. The Importance of Proper Wine Storage A. The Importance of Proper Wine Storage While most of the commodities are consumed within 24 hours from the time of purchase, wines are often preserved for long term storage and aging. Wine is one of the things that get better with time when stored and aged properly but it can also spoil and deteriorate rapidly if kept in inappropriate condition. Proper storage and aging will enhance the wine s flavor, color and quality in general. In order for us to better understand the concept of preserving and aging of wines, the following critical elements should be taken into consideration. 1.Light Wines, especially white wines should not be subjected to excessive amounts of light. Wines should not be stored under direct sunlight and fluorescent lights with ultraviolet light in the wavelength of 325 to 450 nm. Light may adversely react with the chemical compounds in wine and create potential wine faults or defects which often leads to the wine having a lightstruck aroma (or gouts de lumiere French for tastes of light). A wine with a lightstruck aroma is characterized by a decrease in citrus aroma, while the intensity of unpleasant aroma increased. Wine stored in dark area are mostly to maintain its clarity and citrus aroma thus, most wines are packed in colored glass and stored in dark cellars. 2.Humidity Humidity is also a critical element of wine storage to be considered especially if wine cork closures and stoppers are used. In 1913, Henry Ford added the assembly line in the plant. the assembly line is a motorized conveyor belt which moved the cars to the workers, while the each worker add a part to the car as the car pass them. I volunteered at Northeast Cabarrus Fire Department and was so close to becoming an interior firefighter, I could taste it. I never slowed down enough to think about God s plan for me. • 19. Analysis Of Meno By Socrates We all have questions: what am I? What is a human being? What is the meaning of life? Where are we going as a society? Sometimes we might wake up in a cold sweat at night and despair about ever truly having the answers. We joke around with them. We brush them off. We do anything but face them. We refuse to give them power over us. These are truly questions that need to be asked that we have to confront because only with sound answers will we be able to go forward in our lives meaningfully. Philosophyempowers us to ask the big questions, the questions that matter. It is a way to not let the fear take over our lives, but to live without fear of the unknown. The things that appear to be true. Lessons we absorb without even truly thinking it over. What the media pumps out at us every day. We get it from all angles, without second guessing it. But maybe it should be second guessed. Meno is the perfect example of what happens when we don t philosophize, or question. Meno goes out and gives grand speeches about virtue, all accumulations of what other people have told him like Gorgias, but doesn t truly understand the subject. When Socrates asks him to define virtue he can give examples but not an actual definition. Finally, Meno is rendered silent, and he realizes that he truly doesn t have an answer to give Socrates. He has never questioned himself or what he knows to be true, but has only had a bunch of unsupported opinions from what other people have told him. He comes across as uneducated, and ill informed, because he has never gone out to investigate for himself the true from the false. And he didn t even have true opinions on his side. Under philosophy, all these various sources come under the scrutiny of reason. Philosophy gets us to be proactive instead of simply reactive. We become the engines of our lives, instead of the cog in a wheel, moving at the pace of everyone else s opinions or beliefs, we spur our own thinking. Is what everyone else says about money, children, travel, or work really true? Philosophy engages us in asking whether a long held thought or belief is really logical on its own merit rather than simply saying that it must be correct on the merit of the person or group that makes it look so, like Meno. Instead of a compilation of false opinions that we pass of as ours, we truly have our own thoughts that when they come under scrutiny, we can powerfully and confidently defend them as our ... Thus, throughout the history of Israel, the three kings Saul, David, and Solomon where all chosen by God, and each of them had contributed to the development of the nation. Before the time of the three kings, those who reign over Israel were the Judges. However, the beginning of 1 Samuel unfolded the fading of their era (New International Version). By the time the leadership lay in the hands of Eli and his ungodly sons, God had stopped speaking to them and gave His guidance to Samuel (Hinson and Yates 163). Then we soaked redbuds in sulfuric acid without promix, and soaked them with sulfuric acid with promix (not moist), and then for the last lot we wrapped redbuds with moist promix. For peaches we also had a control group with just storing them in a Ziploc bag, and for the second lot we placed that seeds in moist promix in a cooler. The films I am Legend and The Omega Man are both based off the Richard Matheson novel, I am Legend. Both films follow Robert Neville as the last man on earth and his struggle against fighting the creatures that come out at night. In each of these films the creatures are representative of a fear that American society held at the time that the films were made. The Omega Man, released in 1971, features a strong critical allegory about hippie culture in response to the Manson Family murders. I am Legend, released in 2007, features an abandoned and decaying New York City in the post 9/11 era. Each of these eras had a significant influence on how the creatures that Robert combats are depicted. This has many benefits: tourism increased the Chinese economy, this in turn draws foreign companies to do business in China, and this increases the number of people that want to study the Chinese languageand culture, which in turn draws more tourists. It is a nearly endless cycle. However, I would argue that even though there are positive benefits from both tourism and the indusial growth in China, the negative effects to the Chinese population and the environment outweigh those positive attributes. In addition to being one of the world s oldest nations, China is the world s most populated country. With a population consisting of 1,357,380,000 people as of 2014, China is home to almost 25% of the world s population (World Bank, 2015). Islamic Women Vs Western Feminism Essay Although Western feminism started in the 1900s, yet, it didn t reach the Islamic world until most recently, a couple of hundred years later than the West. Despite the fact that both of the feminism movements come from totally different back grounds, and they are affected by different history and culture, still, both of them aimed for women s best interests. Muslim women were profoundly feeling aggrieved by the discrimination they have against them. They stereotypical reputation about them in the West, and their presentation in the Western media didn t help either. Islamic feminism, which derives its understanding and mandate from the Qur an, seeks rights and justice for women, and for men, in the totality of their existence. (Badran, 2001) To understand how Islamic feminism is different than the Western feminism, Hosseini suggested that we can find the answers by: examining the dynamics of Islamic feminism and its potential in the Muslim world. The other middle schoolers and high schoolers were sitting inside their house in their room and texting their friends or doing homework . My mom says that with this much technology people have stopped communicating with their voices and are now always texting. No one spoke and it started to feel awkward. However I didn t have the courage to talk and break the silence. Logan took his phone out and started texting his friends. Mom finally broke the silence by saying, How is your weekend so far? She usually says somethings like how s your day , how is your weekend , or how are you doing with your life when she doesn t know how to start a conversation between people. Really good, I said actually starting the conversation. So why did you call us here? My mom and dad sighed and looked at eachother and my dad said, We have to ... move. My work got moved to Seattle. I was shocked, I had to have misheard him, I m sorry dad, but could you please repeat that. We going to have to move to Seattle, my dad repeated. The Tyger by William Blake, written in 1794 and included in his collection Songs of Innocence and Experience , takes readers on a journey of faith. Through a cycle of unanswered questions, William Blake motivates the readers to question God. Blake sees a necessity for balance in the world, and suggests to the readers that God created a world with a balance of good and evilso that humanity can see goodness more clearly through contrast and comparison.
