The Extinction of The Dinosaurs
Extinction of Dinosaurs Many different theories exist as to why the dinosaurs went extinct. We
know for sure most dinosaurs died out around 65 million years ago. The majority of scientists agree
on a number of theories as to what brought the end of the dinosaurs. The most popular theory is that
an asteroid ended the reign of the dinosaurs. Another theory, massive climate change in the pre
historic atmosphere, caused all the dinosaurs to die. Some scientists believe that mammals out
competed dinosaurs for food and other resources. The last theory that dinosaurs died due to a large
amount of volcanism comes up in scientists list of theories as well. Many different theories of why
dinosaurs went extinct include extinction by asteroid,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The power and magnitude of the asteroid is greater than we could ever imagine. If all the world s
atomic weapons went off simultaneously it still wouldn t cause as much damage as this asteroid
did (Erdman). The enormous impact forced large clouds of dust into the air, these clouds blocked
the sun causing darkness and extreme climate changes ( What Killed the Dinosaurs ). Out of all
the extinction theories the asteroid theory has the most evidence backing it up. As time movies by
layers of rock form in the Earth s crust. The rock formed in the layer around formed the time of
extinction contains abnormally large amounts of iridium, a metal found only in asteroids (Erdman).
Another piece of evidence found in the rock is impact ejecta. Impact ejecta results from an
explosion instantly melting bedrock and throwing it into the air. An abundance of impact ejecta in
the rock layer formed near the dinosaur s extinction suggests that a large asteroid destroyed the
dinosaurs ( What Killed the Dinosaurs ). Scientists can locate a layer of rock that formed during
extinction because all fossils of a certain species show up under or in a rock layer but never above (
What Killed the Dinosaurs ). The crater like shape of the area, the layer rick in iridium and the age
of the rocks all lend weight to the theory ( Eden Channel ). Figure

Green Winter Through The Kick Starter Website
In efforts to grow the Seedfolk City Farm, Barker initiated Operation Green Winter through the
kick starter website, Indiegogo. This was a community focused urban agriculture project that
helped raise funds to continue operating the greenhouses during the winter. It also enabled them to
provide consistent year round after school employment for four of the young people that helped to
get the project off the ground. This campaign was in addition to several community events held in
efforts to raise money for the green winter . This was as a result of weather implications in
Rochester, NY, which prevented them from growing fresh fruits and vegetables. The pilot
aquaponic farming system would winterize the greenhouse by sustaining a year round farming
operation that enabled them to triple production capabilities with four new vertical grow beds. Not
only did the money raised help physically make these changes possible, but it also provided the
youthwith more after school activities as a result of these expansions.
ProsperRochester has relied on its partnerships to achieve its goals. In order to establish these
greenhouses, ProsperRochester teamed up with In The City/Off The Grid. ICOG is a Rochester
based cooperative business that offers solar installation services and general construction services,
while engaging in community development projects and employee training. Thankfully, ICOG was
able to assist with building and provide solar panels for the greenhouses.

Alcoholism Destroys Families and Children
INTRODUCTION
Alcohol abuse is now considered as a proliferating issue that distributes to ruin individuals, and
especially families (Schäfer, 2011). According to The World Health Report in 2003, the global
proliferation of alcohol abuse is evaluated at 1.7%, and this abuse is responsible for 1.4% of the
world disease burden (Grant et al, 2004). Nearly one out of four U.S. children under 18 years old
is revealed to the influences of alcohol misuse and reliance in the family (Grant, 2000).
According to the Random House Dictionary of the English Language (1996), alcoholism is defined
as a diseased condition due to the excessive use of alcoholic beverages (Parsons, 2003) and
alcoholics are the one that can t stop drinking, or can t control the amount of alcohol they drink no
matter how dramatically it affects on their lives (Nordqvist, 2013).
Dramatically negative influences of alcohol use disorders aren t just limited to the individual
alcohol abusers; the damaging consequences reach far beyond and affect the alcoholic s friends
and families. It is shown that alcoholism is responsible for more family problems than any other
single cause; one of every four families has problems with alcohol (Silverstein, 1990). Writing
about the same problems, Joyce Rebeta Burditt also agrees with Silver s opinion: Alcoholism isn t
a spectator sport. Eventually the whole family gets to play .

Analysis Of Lauryn Hill Mystery Of Iniquity
Kane Smith Smith1 Nov.14.2017 Eng. 102 Lauryn Hill Lauryn Hill was and still is an iconic
individual of the African American Hip Hop genre. She is known for her enlightening lyrics and
historical puns that resonate with her listeners. During a time where blacks were being served
with the injustice of society and being defied the moral code of citizenship, Ms. Hill released a
song like poem that not only told our story but spread the message of frustration and struggle so
those without a voice can be heard. Mystery of Iniquity is poem that transcribes three main topics

It s the mystery of iniquity Said It s the misery of inequit Said it s the misery of inequity When it
all... All falls down... Telling you all.... It all falls down (Hill) The above text is the hook to the
poem Mystery of Iniquity Before going in depth with the first piece of the poem; something
stands out in the first two stanzas: iniquity and inequity . According to Webster s dictionary,
inquity is defined as gross injustice; a wicked act or thing and inequity is defined as injustice,
unfairness; an instance of injustice or unfairness (Merriam Webster) Here Ms. Hill sets the tone
for the rest of the poem. She explains that the unfairness of iniquity and inequity is a miserable
feeling. She is talking directly to those that share her unfortunate circumstances of being treated
unfairly in a state of misery. The pre verse that follows the hook brings the topic of religion into
view. The first four lines in the pre verse symbolize Biblical meaning and give way to religious
pretext. The verse says Smith3 Children...Eat your bread. Little children...eat your bread In the
Bible, the bread is symbolic of truth. In John 6:35 there is a story of Jesus speaking to his people.

King Arthur Hero
Medieval literature has fascinated me even when I was a child. Something about tales tales of
epic quests to recover an ancient artifact or mystical power, or even to take back a Holy Land,
these are just a few examples of pieces of literature that excite me. The one thing that excites me
more than the quests, are the knights and heroes that are on this voyage. They are so amazing
because they are such a diverse group of characters all with different personalities, back stories,
and life goals, all bound together as a team to achieve their quest. People like Robin Hood, Beowulf
, and the one that stands out to me, King Arthur. King Arthur was...well a King during the fifth

These three knights would be Sir Percival, Lancelot, and Bedivere. Sir Percival was King Arthur
s most loyal knight, and proved his worth to the king by retrieving the Excalibur, the sword King
Arthur used in many of his battles, from a lake guarded by a group of gnomes. Sir Percival was
also the last of the three knights in the search for the Holy Grail and ended up becoming the
holder, or defender if you will, of the Grail. This story however, has many different renditions
between cultures and countries, but usually they all end with in the some way the Holy Grail
ending up in his possession and him serving as the keeper of it. Sir Lancelot was King Arthur s
best friend and my second favorite knight. He was the only knight who was able to defeat King
Arthur in a jousting match, but even then the two were extremely close to one another until Sir
Lancelot betrayed his friend s trust by falling in love with the Guinevere. This occurred when Sir
Lancelot save Queen Guinevere from an abduction and the two began to have a secret affair.
Eventually King Arthur discovered the two silent affection, but his love for his wife and best
friend ended up having him spare the two. He lived the ends of his life as a lonely hermit. The
last knight is Sir Bedivere, my favorite knight overall. He was one of the first knights to join the
court and served King Arthur to the very end of his reign. He even helped King Arthur in the
fight to take back Camelot, losing one of his hands in the process. In the fight King Arthur as
previously mentioned is wounded to the point of near death. In this process the Excalibur ended
up in Bedivere s possession, though with all the power at his disposal, King Arthur asks him to
return the sword back into the lake where it was originally found so it s magical powers may heal
his wounds and bring his strength back. Sir Bedivere has

The Ethical Dilemma Of Smartphone Manufacturer
As technology is advancing in this digital age so is the need to protected people s privacy and to
keep their personal information confidential. As Michael McFarland, of the Markkula Center for
Applied Ethics noted Reverence for the human person as an end in itself and as an autonomous
being requires respect for personal privacy. To lose control of one s personal information is in
some measure to lose control of one s life and one s dignity. Therefore, even if privacy is not in
itself a fundamental right, it is necessary to protect other fundamental rights (Michael McFarland,
2012). It is in the light of this that the ethical dilemma of whether smartphone manufacturer has the
right to track their customer location is the focus of this paper. People s personal and sensitive
information such as medical records, court records, financial records and geolocation information
should be protected and held confidential. Today manufacturer of smartphone embedded beacon in
their device which transmits their customer location. The location data collected are notably used
as part of providing services or for contextual advertising (Electronic Frontier Foundation, 2016).
The three normative ethical principles chosen to analyze this dilemma are autonomy, confidentiality
and respect for persons. There are three important stakeholders involved in this matter, the
smartphone user, the smartphone manufacturer and the government. Under autonomy, the
individual smartphone user have the

The Media In The Movies
Moving on, zombies and the lower class have an interesting future ahead. According to the essay
The Media in the Movies zombies make their interactions primarily through pop culture and
media. Media is becoming the way of life around most of the world. Nearly everything is now
digital and accessible via an electronic device. This electronic domination can go both ways for
zombies as their initial appeal method of movies may take a hit because less people are heading
to movie theaters and are watching movies and television shows via streaming websites such as
Netflix. According to MPPA.org there has been a steep decline of about five percent in movie
theater attendance. This can potentially hurt the zombie appeal because movies are a huge
display point for zombies and having a decline in movie theater attendance mean less people are
watching the zombie brand. On the flip side, it is beginning to look like zombies are no longer
relying on items such as movies but instead focus on television shows in hopes of expanding the
brand. Numerous zombie incorporated television shows such as The Walking Dead have rapidly
gained popularity as these shows are becoming much watch TV for many people. In the midst of
all this it seems as zombies aren t being hurt but rather changing. Which is similar to the lower
class as it will continue to evolve as well. In the current United States economic system, the middle

Masculinity In The Sun Also Rises By Ernest Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway s classic historical fiction novel The Sun Also Rises comprises an eventful
timeline: bullfighting, fishing trips, male friendship, disguised alcoholism, and the differences
between femininity and masculinity and how they overlap. . His 1926 novel about members of an
expatriate friend group and one pivotal fiesta in Spain portrays a story rife with unrequited love,
symbolism, and metaphors for the Lost Generation in Europe. However, the way Hemingway
focuses on masculinityand femininityinterplaying with each other and contrasts the effects of the
two on all characters and story stands out to the audience. Most of the feminine aura in the novel
doesn t even come from women. In general, Hemingway does not involve women much in his
novels. Notably, the first woman, Frances, introduced in the book is immediately made into an
unsympathetic hag like devil wife who berates and verbally abuses Robert Cohn, her unwilling
husband. After a certain amount of time, her character is written out of the novel as she vaguely
le[aves] for England (Hemingway 77). Lady Brett Ashley, the main woman of the novel, does not
exude femininity either, with her boyish haircut and mannerisms. Even though she is married to a
Lord, literally making her a Lady, she bends the early 20th centuries rules for the genders and is in
fact only mentioned by her title about a dozen times in the novel; the occasional reminder to the
audience that despite her erratic and impulsive behavior, she

Political Theory Has Changed Over The History Of The World
Political theory has changed over the history of the discipline. Two of the most influential and
arguably most important theorists are the Greek philosopher Plato, and the Renaissance s Niccolo
Machiavelli. These two characters represent the beginning of idealistic political thought, and a
more realist and contemporary way that politics are looked at even today. The ideals of these two
will be discussed and dissected, to some extent to show how unobtainable Platos ideal is compared
to Machiavelli s realism that is seen in today s political atmosphere in various types of political
systems seen throughout the world. Looking at Plato, you must understand where and what the
timeframe he lived in. He was born in Classical Greece in the year 427. He was educated,
sophisticate, wise, intelligent, and also wealthy. These were traits that in this time period put
you at the top of societal elites. Plato was a very gifted orator and speaker, giving him the ability
to reason and discuss any topic really, with the ability to win arguments and persuade people.
Due to his status in society, he was very idealistic and used this idealism to reason how a perfect
society should be constructed and run. Plato discusses and sets forth his political ideal in the
Republic. He uses platonic type writing in the book, using characters to discuss, make points and
arguments about how to form such a society. The ideal city, or state even, is a model for how we

Easter Island
Easter Island I was born today. My bones quarried at Rano Raraku near the northeast end of my
homeland, Easter Island. My makers were small, with deep tawny skin that gleamed with moisture
under the sun as they carved the gentle curves of my body. As I lay among the rock, an unmoving
piece of stone that stretched across the land to the creatures that constructed me, I observed the
thriving life around me. I was surrounded by trees, some whose unbranched bodies shot into the
vibrant sky, their silky, lively leaves dancing in the warm wind that swept over me. Down at my
laying level, grew a variety of small, round, leafy, thin, and sweet smelling plants, sprouting from
the land like gifts sent from the fertile soil. From the moment... Show more content on

onto the beach, dragging their dead tree boats into the choppy water, heading to sea to kill the
peaceful porpoises, which happily swam around the island. And each night, I would watch these
boats, like a heard of hungry savages, charge towards the shore with their slaughtered fish
thrown in a heap, ready to be feasted on by the islanders. I was no longer the only one of my
kind. Hundreds of others lined the shore. Some were taller, others much smaller, each with
differently carved facial features, some even decorated with red crowns. I painfully watched as
my brothers and sisters were created. First they were born from the quarry, and carved by
hundreds of humans with their stone chisels. Next, once the needed amount of Chilean wine
palms trees were killed and enough hauhau trees to make a long rope were stripped apart, the
statue was ready to be transported to the coast, where I stood. I noticed as the land around me

Marxism In The Golden Poppy
John Griffith Chaney, best known by his pen name Jack London was an American writer; he was
born in San Francisco, California on January 12th, 1876, and died in Glen Ellen, California on
November 22nd, 1916. London had a difficult childhood, regarding London s writing style,
oxfordbibliographies.com, (2012) mentions: Perhaps in part because of the psychological dualities
of his childhood, London frequently attempted to conjoin opposites in his work, such as socialism
and individualism, wanderlust and love of home, travel overseas and California ranching, Friedrich
Nietzsche versus Karl Marxor Charles Darwin, racism versus brotherhood .

This approach is concerned about the social content of the literary work, consequently, the idea is to
analyze literature from the implications and the consequences that a capitalist system has on a
specific society. As cliffsnotes.com, (n.d) indicates: this theoretical approach asks us to consider
how a literary work reflects the socioeconomic conditions of the time in which it was written .
From the Marxist approach, the story the golden poppy shows a society full of differences and
inequalities. In one side, there is a wealthy lady who has a stunning poppy field full of beautiful
yellow flowers, and on the other hand, there are the poor people of the town that need to take
and sell the flowers in order to live. Based on this, the story has a class struggle, high class
contrasted with low class, besides of having the role of the powerful person, in this case, the lady
owner of the poppy field.
To analyze this approach is vital to take into account the concept of capitalism, this is a system in
which the main and the only objective is to profit. In capitalism the power and the decision making
are based on the ones who own the factors of production, so it depends on what they need or what
they want to make changes; changes that are going to bring benefits to

The Presidential System Of Government
No matter the system of government, there will always be advantages and disadvantages to it. Not
everyone wants or expects the same same things so how can the government supply everything that
is needed and wanted by the people no matter how hard they try. Three of the systems of
government: presidential, parliamentary, and communist arouse advantages and disadvantages
within the government. Within the governmental structure of the presidential system, the executive
branch is led by the president, who is both the head of state and the government. In its existence, it
is separate from legislaturewherein it cannot dismiss. As it is separate from those rulings, the
president does not have as much power or control creating a system of checks and balances,
allowing each branch to monitor one another. It is a stable system that is kept in line as it has
fixed two year terms. The people must elect or re elect the president to have them a longer amount
of time, making his leadership and authority more legitimate as the people choose him. To appeal
to the people, political parties are formed to uphold the potential presidential candidates. These
parties are long term and established ones that are trustworthy. Throughout it all, the people have
the choice of their candidates as almost every position has a term in which a new person must be
elected or another must be elected. Public opinion constantly changes, as does their opinion on the
people they had elected into power. While

As increasing number of women are gaining more rights globally as well as their economic
power. However, domestic violence, especially violence against both women and children from
associated partner remaining a broad issue that need to be addressed. Public health studies
indicated that a large number of people have the experience of witnessing varies degree of violence
within the family. I believe that when speaking of family violence, there is a picture that comes out
of our mind. It usually started with a quarrel between the parents, the husband and wife had some

The most extreme case would be murdering. WHO reported that 38% of murdering of women is
conducted by intimate partners. Other than the case above, other significant damages would be
disability, functional disorder, delusional disorder, despondent, etc. The general feelings of victims
would be fear, depression, avoidance, suspicious, and the duration of those emotions would depend
on the degree or means of the violence conduction, the victim s education background, their social
status and numbers of other factors.
Not only women and children, men can be victims as well. But their experiences during violence
are different. Men tend to bury their thoughts deep in the heart; it means they would rather be silent
than speak out. Most likely men are mental victims in violence compared to women. Overall,
speaking of the size, women and children are still the main victim in terms of domestic violence.
Discussion over the issue
To understand the origin of domestic violence, the first thing I think is to identify universal factors
causing violence. According to the research, four major concerns are listed as below: economic
living conditions, traditional gender attitudes towards women, authoritarian parenting, and a
general tolerance of violent behavior in a given society. The research found that in rural area with
relatively low economic condition, women tend to have larger exposure to

people about what could happen to their society if they continued like this. It was trying to pull

Joel A. Rogers greatest achievement was his writing on racist depictions on people of black

Rogers knew that as a black man in white America there was going to discrimination and
suppression toward his works but his self determination pushed him further to write about black
opposition.
Joel A. Rogers is a man of self determination because of Rogers only obtaining a high school
diploma and educating himself further in his career where he became a prolific journalist and
author of histories and collective biographies of great black figures (1). His self determination
started at an early age when he escaped from rural Jamaica by joining the British army and from
that enlistment and emigrated to America. His time in America shaped his attitudes and beliefs
(which would stay with him later in his career) because of the United States reinforcement of white
hierarchy and unescapable discrimination. Even as a student, Joel A. Rogers, in school he had
resisted principles of white superiority, and in the United States he thought back on the
accomplishments of black West Indians who had excelled within the British educational and
military systems (2). As a student, Rogers grew into an eager and zealous opponent of American
racism. Rogers realized that the empowerment of African Americans depended upon a needed prior
revolution in their internalized self images. Furthermore, Rogers set out as a writer to disseminate

Advent Research Paper
Advent is a season observed in many Western Christian churches as a time of expectant waiting and
preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. The term is a version of the
Latin word meaning coming .
Latin adventus is the translation of the Greek word parousia, commonly used to refer to the Second
Coming of Christ. For Christians, the season of Advent anticipates the coming of Christ from three
different perspectives. Since the time of Bernard of Clairvaux(d.1153) Christians have spoken of
the three comings of Christ: in the flesh in Bethlehem, in our hearts daily, and in glory at the end of
time. [1] The season offers the opportunity to share in the ancient longing for the coming of the

which provides Advent Collects, Epistles, and Gospels for the five Sundays preceding Christmas
and for the corresponding Wednesdays and Fridays.[14] While the Sunday readings relate to the
first coming of Jesus Christ as savior as well as to his second coming as judge, traditions vary in
the relative importance of penitence and expectation during the weeks in Advent.

The usual liturgical color in Western Christianity for Advent is either violet (or purple) or blue.[15]
The violet or purple color is often used for hangings around the church, the vestments of the clergy,

an alternative liturgical color for Advent, a custom traced to the usage of

The likelihood of such abuse of the sales tax law induced the legislature to protect the public from
this burden by enacting a prohibition under Section 46 against such collection from customers. A
mere prohibitory provision may remain a pious wish , unless, to make it effective, the statute puts
teeth into it. Section 37(1) (a) and Section 63(1)(h) are the claws of Section 46 which go into
action, departmentally or criminally, when there is violation. I. Whether the Legislature has the
required competence
In the jurisprudence of power, colourable exercise of or fraud on legislative power or, more
frightfully, fraud on the Constitution, are expressions which merely mean that the legislature is
incompetent to enact a particular law, although the label of competency is stuck on it and then it is
colourable legislation. The court observed that it is very important to notice that if the legislature is
competent to pass the particular law, the motives which impel it to pass the law are really
irrelevant. To put it more relevantly to the case on hand, if a legislation, apparently enacted under

Support Transportation Changes Throughout Different Periods
Central Government.
The participation of the central government willing to support transportation changes appeared at
different periods. The first attempt was during the administration of LeГіn Febres Cordero (1984

1992) team developed plans that will improve transportation in the city. Their main idea was to
acquire a train to connect the south of the city with the valleys. Nevertheless, that option was not
the best alternative due to the few population living at the valleys (Interviewer X, 2016). During
this administration, ideas of decentralizing power to local authorities grew, and the congress began

Credit History Essay
Credit history is a record of a borrower s responsible repayment of debts. When an American
customer fills
out an application for credit from a bank, credit card company, or a store, there information is
forwarded to a credit bureau. These organizations match the name, address, and other identifying
information on the credit applicant with
information found in the files of the credit bureaus. The gathered records are then used by lenders
to determine an individual s credit worthiness that is determining an individual s ability and track
record of repaying a debt. Lenders will extend credit to individuals who have paid consumer debt
obligations regularly and on time, while those
who missed payments are more likely to be declined.
How are credit scores, also known as FICO scores, calculated?
Payment history makes up 35% of the credit score/FICO score. A record of negative information
can lower a
consumer s credit rating or score negative events such as charge offs, collections, late payments,
repossessions, foreclosures, settlements, bankruptcies and judgments can affect the FICO score
greatly. Newer offenses have a greater affect than older offenses, and many is worse than a few.
Debt and debt history makes up 30% of the FICO score.
Three types of debt, revolving debt, installment debt, and open debt all contribute to an individual
s credit score. Revolving debt is credit card debt, and while home equity lines of credit have
revolving terms, the bulk of debt

Phoenix Jackson Characteristics
Most fictional characters found in novels and short stories possess a characteristic that the reader
also enjoys. In the case of Eudora Welty s, A Worn Path , protagonist Phoenix Jackson has a few
notable features that entice the reader. As the reader, I felt as if I possessed comparable traits to
Ms. Jackson the depth of her might captivated me as I have always been hardy too. Robert
Saunders must have felt similarly when he read A Worn Path
as he also highlights Phoenix s strength
in his article, albeit with different evidence than used in my unpublished paper A Flame That Won t
Burn Out . Phoenix s toughness is something that every reader notices because it is such a
predominant trait (as Welty desired). Consequently, my argument that Phoenix Jackson is a robust
woman is supported by Saunder s article, especially based on the ideas of similarity to the
mythological phoenix, strength during adversity, and Phoenix Jackson s connection with nature.
Initially, Saunders and I both drew on the important comparison between Welty s Phoenix Jackson
and the large bird known through history as a phoenix. While I chose to highlight the similarities
in common traits between Ms. Jackson and the bird, Saunders poses the ideas that Phoenix
represents the bird physically. Saunders recalls the red head rag she wears, stating, The color of
that head apparel cannot be accepted as coincidental; recall the scarlet plumage of the ancient bird

Achieving Goal In Chinua Avi s Nothing But The Truth
Do you know how hard some people work to get toward their goal? Some people don t work at
all. If you have a job, then you know you have to actually do your job in order to get paid. If you
don t do your job, however, you won t get paid, and you will probably get fired. The same goes
for if you want to try out for a team; you have to do your schoolwork. In Nothing But the Truth ,
Avi uses the character of Philip to demonstrate how you have to work hard to get to your goal.
The first way Philip demonstrates that you have to work hard to get toward your goal, is when he
asks his coach about trying out for the track team, which ends negatively. In the book, Philip wants

Supposedly, there is a rule at their school that basically says that you have to stand in respectful

study will be using a qualitative research design. This qualitative design will be accomplished
through the use of face to face and phone interviews. This current study seeks to answer the
following questions: What parental challenges do Latino immigrant parents face? What resiliencies
do Latino immigrant parents obtain? What resources/services do Latino immigrant parents feel
they need? What parenting skills, styles, and/or knowledge have Latino immigrant parents used
and were they effective in producing positive child outcomes? One advantage of using a qualitative
design is that the researchers get more detailed and in depth answers. Another advantage of using a
qualitative design is that more complex questions can be asked. Researchers can also explain terms
and questions in order to get the most reliable answers. One limitation of using a qualitative design,
is the limited number of participants upon which the results are based. Without a large sample size,
it is difficult to conclude that the results will be generalized to a larger population size. Another
limitation of this study is that the research results will be based on self reports which limits the
reliance on the data. Participants may not truthfully report their behaviors and feelings. Participants
may answer the interviewquestions with socially acceptable answers. Participants may be inclined

Argumentative Essay On Corn Ethanol
In 2005, federal mandates were placed to encourage the use of biofuel (Bullis). Biofuels can come
from many different sources, like sugar for example (Tyner et al. i), but the most prominent and
most controversial biofuel is corn ethanol. In 2007, President Bush (Bullis) expanded the quotas on
ethanol with the Energy Independency and Security Act (Tyner et al. i). Although there are other
biofuels, legislature has established ethanol as an additive to traditional petroleum based
automobile fuels. Corn ethanol is controversial because many believe that it is not more efficient
than fossil fuels and raises the price of food since livestock or humans could eat it.
Professor Don Hofstrand at Iowa State University says ...a 100 million gallon ethanol biorefinery
will reduce [greenhouse gas] emissions by approximately 400,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide
equivalents per year. Although ethanol requires greenhouse gases to be emitted for production,
ethanol fuel s net emissions are fifty four percent less than gasoline. Half of the emissions related to
producing ethanol are related to growing crops, while the other half is contributed to refining the
fuel (Hofstrand). The burning and production of ethanol combined has a smaller carbon footprint
than petroleum fuels. This makes it a good fuel substitution while even greener forms of energy are
developed to power automobiles and machinery. Reduced greenhouse gases can help slow climate
change.

Stone Mountain Research Paper
Approximately ten miles from downtown Atlanta, one thousand six hundred eighty three feet above

A missionary can be defined as someone who is sent to...
A missionary can be defined as someone who is sent to spread Christianity throughout the world or
do other religious works. There have been several influential missionaries in modern day America
such as William Carey, George MГјller, David Livingstone, Lottie Moon, and Amy Carmichael.
These people have dedicated their lives to reaching out to others and have inspired many people to
become missionaries. Each one of them has impacted the world in a different way. William Carey
was an English Baptistmissionary. He was born on 17 August 1761 in Paulerspury, England. As a

said Young man, sit down; when God pleases to convert the heathen, he will do it without your
aid and mine. The man s son, Carey s friend, denied that his father made the comment. In 1789
Carey became the main pastor of a church in Leicester. A few years later he published an
enquiry that had five different parts. In part one he used scripture in order to convince people
that they had a duty as a Christian to spread the gospel throughout the world. The second part
contained the history of missions. Part three was just statistics in order to show how many
people need to be reached. The fourth part covered the dangers and struggles one might face as a
missionary. The fifth part talks about the need for a Baptist Mission Society and how it could
possibly be supported. After this pamphlet was made Carey preached a sermon about missionaries
where he used his most famous quote: Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God.
On October 1792 Carey, Andrew Fuller, John Ryland, and John Sutcliff participated in the

Essay on Racism in Disney s Aladdin
Racism: discrimination which exemplifies stereotypical differences between the ethnic groups to
which people belong. While Disney animated films are the ideal family movies, it is undisclosed
to many that such racism is being portrayed. Disney s movie Aladdin (1992), was a high profile
release, the winner of two Academy Awards, and one of the most successful Disney films ever
produced (Giroux, 104); however, what is often disregarded is the obvious depiction of careless
racism towards Arabs seen in the illustrations of the characters, the statuses into which they are

One Arab merchant even tries to cut off Jasmine s hand when she doesn t have money to pay for
an apple she gave to a hungry boy. Not once in the movie does it show a wealthy man living
outside the palace among civilization. This is not only unrealistic but it is also very insulting
towards the Arabic culture. When it comes to the illustrations of his popular characters in
Aladdin, Disney proves to be quite racist. Most of the small part, background characters and
especially the bad guys , such as Jafar and the palace guards, all have incredibly distinct Arabic
appearances. Every one of them stereotypically consists of beards, large noses, sinister eyes, and
heavy accents, and they re wielding swords constantly (Giroux, 104). In contrast, Aladdin the
hero, looks and talks like an All American man. His skin is pale and he wants to be addressed as
Al, which is an American name rather than Arabic. He does not have a beard, big nose, turban, or
accent. The key point in this illustration is that Disney is establishing that Aladdin looks right for
the part of a hero, while Jafar looks right for a villain. Jack Zipes, author of the essay Breaking the
Disney Spell , clarifies that though the characters are fleshed out to become more realistic, they are
also one dimensional. There is no character development because the characters are stereotypes,
arranged according to a credo of domestication of the imagination

The Occurrence Of Rape Essay
Sexual urge ... lust ... desire ... force (Emma, 2012) these are all words used by real life sexual
offenders to describe their accounts and what motivated them to commit such crimes. Relative
terms such as rape culture have become increasingly relevant to one of the most discussed issues
in contemporary society. However, a majority of the discussion centres around the impact on the
victims, as well as the injustice of their behaviour. Little of the discussion looks at what goes on
through the minds of these types of offenders. In this essay, I will attempt to unpack a number of
theories that discuss the roots of the occurrence of rape. This will be evaluated in conjunction with
the criminological theory of seductions of crime, as well as the conflict theory. In addition to
this, I will scrutinise these theories and its flaws. I will also be using the example of a real life
convicted rapist to show his version of how someone could become a sex offender. Furthermore, an
analysis on different character traits of sex offenders will follow this, as well as an investigation
on rape culture in order to develop a more informed understanding on sexual offending.
A number of theories have been developed to help explain the reasons why rape occurs. Thornhill
and Palmer developed the evolutionary theory that connects rape to primitive traits (Siegert Ward,
2002 cited in Lowell, 2010: 158). According to Thornhill and Palmer, this meant that men who

Analysis Of A Certain Lady By Dorothy Parker
Love, by definition, is an intense feeling of affection, associated with attachment. Love can be
very painful for many people since they end up getting hurt by the person they love. With the
power love possesses, it has been used throughout literature in plays, books, poems, essays, and
more. Dorothy Parker was a writer starting when she was in her twenties. Over the years, she began
writingher own books, which became very popular. She expanded her writing style through her
career and became very well known for how realistic and blunt her writing was. In the poem A
Certain Lady, Dorothy Parker uses symbolism to convey a theme of how damaging lovecan be. For
example, Parker describes eager lips to show her attraction to him, even though he was causing
her pain by not being faithful. She also describes that her heart is dying over and over every time
he tells her of his excursions with other women. Parker seems regretful by the way she ends her
poem, and the characters are never described individually.
Symbolism is used throughout Parker s poem, creating an unclear connotation. She uses words
such as eager lips to show how intense her emotions are. She feels so very strong for her
companion that she is longing for, that she is hopeful for him to come back to her. Even though
she misses him and wants him to come back from his trips, it is bittersweet for her because he
always tells her about what exactly he has been doing while he was away. Parker also uses
symbolism as she writes that her heart dies over and over, each time her companion explains how
he has been with other women. This could represent that her love is dying for him each time he
cheats on her, or that she is so disappointed in him that she cannot give him her whole heart.
Though she seems desperate sometimes throughout the poem, I believe the female character is a
strong woman who may just be intimidated by the man she loves, or even scared of what might
happen if she were to leave.
Parker ends the poem with a regretful, mysterious tone. The last lines of the poem read And what
goes on, my love, while you re away, You ll never know. Ending the poem with the uncertainty of
not knowing what really happens when he is away really allows for

largely beneficial in the lives of the working people. While workers in sweatshops are extremely

Real life examples would be campuses across the United States, and individual municipalities across
Canada advocating against sweatshops, and advocating for sweat free goods. Student activists in
universities in the United States have started to disallow purchasing university merchandise from
factories that don t respect worker s rights. This push is coming from the United Students Against
Sweatshops, who have over the years organized strikes, rallies, and charity events to demand that
American universities make stronger policies to disallow clothing for students to come from
sweatshops. Pressure from students have made numerous universities support this cause.
Furthermore, students have demanded that popular clothing brands like Nike disclose which
factories are used to make university merchandise, and Nike did give the locations and names of its
factories to the organization. Nike also promised to make sweatshop conditions better. This is an
example of how student organizations are getting major companies to improve the conditions in
sweatshops, and how major organizations share the view that sweatshops are extremely bad for
worker s economic and social human rights. Student organizations in universities are also making
companies pay their workers more in order for them to meet the living wage. While this does
make prices for merchandise higher, it has a minimal impact on the consumer and a huge impact on
the worker. In this way students are improving the lives of many sweatshop workers around the

piece. My advertisement was one meant to inform the audience on harmful practices that are
causing the destruction of our forests, and along with it our air. This advertisement is about
deforestation and our air quality.
Our continuous chopping of forests and trees has not only affected us and the forest, but animals
and tribes of people as well. So many living things depend on the forests to survive and without that
we may lose them. Chopping down trees increases the amount of carbon dioxide released into the
atmosphere thus making our air quality worsen. The picture ad really impacts the reader by
showing the picture of a bare forest that symbolizes our lungs, creating a double meaning and more
depth. This issue is very important to our health and the world s. The Help us save the air we
breathe advertisement uses imagery to intensify their points about deforestation and puts this issue
into perspective, causing action to be taken.

Bias In The Media Bias
There are many different hidden truths in the media that people do not know about due to the
fact that the media emphasizes on just one particular point of view. Throughout the years, people
have been biased in the media and the reason as to why this happens is that people choose to
lean on one side such as republican, democrat, libertarian, or conservative. To be biased means to
only be on one side of an argument or situation and only favor more of what one person has to say.
There are a variety of different news channels in which they all tend to lean more on one side, there
is not a single news channel that is on the same side as another. There are many current events that
have multiple contentious between other news channels. The viewers... Show more content on

Whether it is news channels on the television or whether it is Twitter and Facebook news, the
public will always have a way to find out current reports. Since society has become so dependent
on technology, a greater amount of individuals get their actual news online and especially
through social media. As many of the public know, you cannot trust what people online are
saying. Since individuals are so accustomed to getting the news online, many of them tend to
believe what they just happen to scroll across on Twitter and Facebook or any other sort of social
media. Finding actual facts and truths on the news have become so difficult now, due to all of the
millions of different sites and places where we can get our news from. The news online tend to be
biased and untrue due to how openly and freely individuals can create their own site and reports on
current events such as a real news channels would. Social media has just made it more complicated
to find the actual accuracy of current events but with enough research, dedication, and using the

Purloined Letter And The Murders In The Rue Morgue
The stories I chose for this unit are The Fall of the House of Usher, The Purloined Letter, and The
Murders in the Rue Morgue. The first story I chose involved with two siblings that have
something wrong with them. The brother who has a mental illness which leads to the suffering of
fear and anxiety, as well as having a morbid acuteness of the senses. The Purloined Letter tells
about how the queen got her letter stolen by Minister D, and yet Dupin stole that Minister D s letter
who replaced the stolen letter with a fake one. The Murders in the Rue Morgue tells about how
Dupin solves the murders of two people with a daughter s throat cut then being stuffed up a
chimney and the mother was strangled then thrown out a window.
The Fall of the House of Usher showed Roderick cope with death and gloominess by reading
literature books, music, and art because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People would also like to have immortality such as living beyond death or leaving a mark the
world for people to remember. The few people that would be different about death could be
avoiding the thought of death or they are not aware of the feeling about becoming closer to death.
People would do more positive things to leave their mark, so thinking of death would drive others
to do good. The other part of the people who think of negative things will believe that death will
have a terrible outcome.
The only character I believe would act the closest to actual people would be Dupin. Dupin copes
with death by reading books and he does more good if he solves the impossible which leaves his
mark on the world. I could agree with Rodrick from The Fall of the House of Usher because of
how he deals with the feeling with similar to Dupin, because they have a hobby in literature and
Roderick uses his hobbies to get away from the dreadful feeling of

  • 2. The Extinction of The Dinosaurs Extinction of Dinosaurs Many different theories exist as to why the dinosaurs went extinct. We know for sure most dinosaurs died out around 65 million years ago. The majority of scientists agree on a number of theories as to what brought the end of the dinosaurs. The most popular theory is that an asteroid ended the reign of the dinosaurs. Another theory, massive climate change in the pre historic atmosphere, caused all the dinosaurs to die. Some scientists believe that mammals out competed dinosaurs for food and other resources. The last theory that dinosaurs died due to a large amount of volcanism comes up in scientists list of theories as well. Many different theories of why dinosaurs went extinct include extinction by asteroid,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The power and magnitude of the asteroid is greater than we could ever imagine. If all the world s atomic weapons went off simultaneously it still wouldn t cause as much damage as this asteroid did (Erdman). The enormous impact forced large clouds of dust into the air, these clouds blocked the sun causing darkness and extreme climate changes ( What Killed the Dinosaurs ). Out of all the extinction theories the asteroid theory has the most evidence backing it up. As time movies by layers of rock form in the Earth s crust. The rock formed in the layer around formed the time of extinction contains abnormally large amounts of iridium, a metal found only in asteroids (Erdman). Another piece of evidence found in the rock is impact ejecta. Impact ejecta results from an explosion instantly melting bedrock and throwing it into the air. An abundance of impact ejecta in the rock layer formed near the dinosaur s extinction suggests that a large asteroid destroyed the dinosaurs ( What Killed the Dinosaurs ). Scientists can locate a layer of rock that formed during extinction because all fossils of a certain species show up under or in a rock layer but never above ( What Killed the Dinosaurs ). • 4. Green Winter Through The Kick Starter Website In efforts to grow the Seedfolk City Farm, Barker initiated Operation Green Winter through the kick starter website, Indiegogo. This was a community focused urban agriculture project that helped raise funds to continue operating the greenhouses during the winter. It also enabled them to provide consistent year round after school employment for four of the young people that helped to get the project off the ground. This campaign was in addition to several community events held in efforts to raise money for the green winter . This was as a result of weather implications in Rochester, NY, which prevented them from growing fresh fruits and vegetables. The pilot aquaponic farming system would winterize the greenhouse by sustaining a year round farming operation that enabled them to triple production capabilities with four new vertical grow beds. Not only did the money raised help physically make these changes possible, but it also provided the youthwith more after school activities as a result of these expansions. • 6. Alcoholism Destroys Families and Children INTRODUCTION Alcohol abuse is now considered as a proliferating issue that distributes to ruin individuals, and especially families (SchГ¤fer, 2011). According to The World Health Report in 2003, the global proliferation of alcohol abuse is evaluated at 1.7%, and this abuse is responsible for 1.4% of the world disease burden (Grant et al, 2004). Nearly one out of four U.S. children under 18 years old is revealed to the influences of alcohol misuse and reliance in the family (Grant, 2000). According to the Random House Dictionary of the English Language (1996), alcoholism is defined as a diseased condition due to the excessive use of alcoholic beverages (Parsons, 2003) and alcoholics are the one that can t stop drinking, or can t control the amount of alcohol they drink no matter how dramatically it affects on their lives (Nordqvist, 2013). Dramatically negative influences of alcohol use disorders aren t just limited to the individual alcohol abusers; the damaging consequences reach far beyond and affect the alcoholic s friends and families. It is shown that alcoholism is responsible for more family problems than any other single cause; one of every four families has problems with alcohol (Silverstein, 1990). Writing about the same problems, Joyce Rebeta Burditt also agrees with Silver s opinion: Alcoholism isn t a spectator sport. Eventually the whole family gets to play . It all falls down (Hill) The above text is the hook to the poem Mystery of Iniquity Before going in depth with the first piece of the poem; something stands out in the first two stanzas: iniquity and inequity . According to Webster s dictionary, inquity is defined as gross injustice; a wicked act or thing and inequity is defined as injustice, unfairness; an instance of injustice or unfairness (Merriam Webster) Here Ms. Hill sets the tone for the rest of the poem. She explains that the unfairness of iniquity and inequity is a miserable feeling. She is talking directly to those that share her unfortunate circumstances of being treated unfairly in a state of misery. The pre verse that follows the hook brings the topic of religion into view. The first four lines in the pre verse symbolize Biblical meaning and give way to religious pretext. The verse says Smith3 Children...Eat your bread. • 8. King Arthur Hero Medieval literature has fascinated me even when I was a child. Something about tales tales of epic quests to recover an ancient artifact or mystical power, or even to take back a Holy Land, these are just a few examples of pieces of literature that excite me. The one thing that excites me more than the quests, are the knights and heroes that are on this voyage. They are so amazing because they are such a diverse group of characters all with different personalities, back stories, and life goals, all bound together as a team to achieve their quest. People like Robin Hood, Beowulf , and the one that stands out to me, King Arthur. King Arthur was...well a King during the fifth while most wars against the Anglo Saxon tribes were still going on.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These three knights would be Sir Percival, Lancelot, and Bedivere. Sir Percival was King Arthur s most loyal knight, and proved his worth to the king by retrieving the Excalibur, the sword King Arthur used in many of his battles, from a lake guarded by a group of gnomes. Sir Percival was also the last of the three knights in the search for the Holy Grail and ended up becoming the holder, or defender if you will, of the Grail. This story however, has many different renditions between cultures and countries, but usually they all end with in the some way the Holy Grail ending up in his possession and him serving as the keeper of it. Sir Lancelot was King Arthur s best friend and my second favorite knight. He was the only knight who was able to defeat King Arthur in a jousting match, but even then the two were extremely close to one another until Sir Lancelot betrayed his friend s trust by falling in love with the Guinevere. This occurred when Sir Lancelot save Queen Guinevere from an abduction and the two began to have a secret affair. Eventually King Arthur discovered the two silent affection, but his love for his wife and best friend ended up having him spare the two. He lived the ends of his life as a lonely hermit. The last knight is Sir Bedivere, my favorite knight overall. He was one of the first knights to join the court and served King Arthur to the very end of his reign. He even helped King Arthur in the fight to take back Camelot, losing one of his hands in the process. In the fight King Arthur as previously mentioned is wounded to the point of near death. In this process the Excalibur ended up in Bedivere s possession, though with all the power at his disposal, King Arthur asks him to return the sword back into the lake where it was originally found so it s magical powers may heal his wounds and bring his strength back. • 9. The Ethical Dilemma Of Smartphone Manufacturer As technology is advancing in this digital age so is the need to protected people s privacy and to keep their personal information confidential. As Michael McFarland, of the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics noted Reverence for the human person as an end in itself and as an autonomous being requires respect for personal privacy. To lose control of one s personal information is in some measure to lose control of one s life and one s dignity. Therefore, even if privacy is not in itself a fundamental right, it is necessary to protect other fundamental rights (Michael McFarland, 2012). It is in the light of this that the ethical dilemma of whether smartphone manufacturer has the right to track their customer location is the focus of this paper. According to the essay The Media in the Movies zombies make their interactions primarily through pop culture and media. Media is becoming the way of life around most of the world. Nearly everything is now digital and accessible via an electronic device. This electronic domination can go both ways for zombies as their initial appeal method of movies may take a hit because less people are heading to movie theaters and are watching movies and television shows via streaming websites such as Netflix. According to MPPA.org there has been a steep decline of about five percent in movie theater attendance. This can potentially hurt the zombie appeal because movies are a huge display point for zombies and having a decline in movie theater attendance mean less people are watching the zombie brand. On the flip side, it is beginning to look like zombies are no longer relying on items such as movies but instead focus on television shows in hopes of expanding the brand. Numerous zombie incorporated television shows such as The Walking Dead have rapidly gained popularity as these shows are becoming much watch TV for many people. Masculinity In The Sun Also Rises By Ernest Hemingway Ernest Hemingway s classic historical fiction novel The Sun Also Rises comprises an eventful timeline: bullfighting, fishing trips, male friendship, disguised alcoholism, and the differences between femininity and masculinity and how they overlap. . His 1926 novel about members of an expatriate friend group and one pivotal fiesta in Spain portrays a story rife with unrequited love, symbolism, and metaphors for the Lost Generation in Europe. However, the way Hemingway focuses on masculinityand femininityinterplaying with each other and contrasts the effects of the two on all characters and story stands out to the audience. Most of the feminine aura in the novel doesn t even come from women. In general, Hemingway does not involve women much in his novels. Notably, the first woman, Frances, introduced in the book is immediately made into an unsympathetic hag like devil wife who berates and verbally abuses Robert Cohn, her unwilling husband. After a certain amount of time, her character is written out of the novel as she vaguely le[aves] for England (Hemingway 77). Lady Brett Ashley, the main woman of the novel, does not exude femininity either, with her boyish haircut and mannerisms. Even though she is married to a Lord, literally making her a Lady, she bends the early 20th centuries rules for the genders and is in fact only mentioned by her title about a dozen times in the novel; the occasional reminder to the audience that despite her erratic and impulsive behavior, she ... Two of the most influential and arguably most important theorists are the Greek philosopher Plato, and the Renaissance s Niccolo Machiavelli. These two characters represent the beginning of idealistic political thought, and a more realist and contemporary way that politics are looked at even today. The ideals of these two will be discussed and dissected, to some extent to show how unobtainable Platos ideal is compared to Machiavelli s realism that is seen in today s political atmosphere in various types of political systems seen throughout the world. Looking at Plato, you must understand where and what the timeframe he lived in. He was born in Classical Greece in the year 427. He was educated, sophisticate, wise, intelligent, and also wealthy. These were traits that in this time period put you at the top of societal elites. Plato was a very gifted orator and speaker, giving him the ability to reason and discuss any topic really, with the ability to win arguments and persuade people. Due to his status in society, he was very idealistic and used this idealism to reason how a perfect society should be constructed and run. • 25. Credit History Essay Credit history is a record of a borrower s responsible repayment of debts. When an American customer fills out an application for credit from a bank, credit card company, or a store, there information is forwarded to a credit bureau. These organizations match the name, address, and other identifying information on the credit applicant with information found in the files of the credit bureaus. The gathered records are then used by lenders to determine an individual s credit worthiness that is determining an individual s ability and track record of repaying a debt. Lenders will extend credit to individuals who have paid consumer debt obligations regularly and on time, while those who missed payments are more likely to be declined. How are credit scores, also known as FICO scores, calculated? Payment history makes up 35% of the credit score/FICO score. A record of negative information can lower a consumer s credit rating or score negative events such as charge offs, collections, late payments, repossessions, foreclosures, settlements, bankruptcies and judgments can affect the FICO score greatly. In the case of Eudora Welty s, A Worn Path , protagonist Phoenix Jackson has a few notable features that entice the reader. As the reader, I felt as if I possessed comparable traits to Ms. Jackson the depth of her might captivated me as I have always been hardy too. Robert Saunders must have felt similarly when he read A Worn Path as he also highlights Phoenix s strength in his article, albeit with different evidence than used in my unpublished paper A Flame That Won t Burn Out . Phoenix s toughness is something that every reader notices because it is such a predominant trait (as Welty desired). Consequently, my argument that Phoenix Jackson is a robust woman is supported by Saunder s article, especially based on the ideas of similarity to the mythological phoenix, strength during adversity, and Phoenix Jackson s connection with nature. Initially, Saunders and I both drew on the important comparison between Welty s Phoenix Jackson and the large bird known through history as a phoenix. While I chose to highlight the similarities in common traits between Ms. Jackson and the bird, Saunders poses the ideas that Phoenix represents the bird physically. Saunders recalls the red head rag she wears, stating, The color of that head apparel cannot be accepted as coincidental; recall the scarlet plumage of the ancient bird (2). In Nothing But the Truth , Avi uses the character of Philip to demonstrate how you have to work hard to get to your goal. This study will be using a qualitative research design. This qualitative design will be accomplished through the use of face to face and phone interviews. This current study seeks to answer the following questions: What parental challenges do Latino immigrant parents face? What resiliencies do Latino immigrant parents obtain? What resources/services do Latino immigrant parents feel they need? What parenting skills, styles, and/or knowledge have Latino immigrant parents used and were they effective in producing positive child outcomes? One advantage of using a qualitative design is that the researchers get more detailed and in depth answers. Another advantage of using a qualitative design is that more complex questions can be asked. Researchers can also explain terms and questions in order to get the most reliable answers. One limitation of using a qualitative design, is the limited number of participants upon which the results are based. Without a large sample size, it is difficult to conclude that the results will be generalized to a larger population size. Another limitation of this study is that the research results will be based on self reports which limits the reliance on the data. Participants may not truthfully report their behaviors and feelings. • 29. Argumentative Essay On Corn Ethanol In 2005, federal mandates were placed to encourage the use of biofuel (Bullis). Biofuels can come from many different sources, like sugar for example (Tyner et al. i), but the most prominent and most controversial biofuel is corn ethanol. In 2007, President Bush (Bullis) expanded the quotas on ethanol with the Energy Independency and Security Act (Tyner et al. i). Although there are other biofuels, legislature has established ethanol as an additive to traditional petroleum based automobile fuels. Corn ethanol is controversial because many believe that it is not more efficient than fossil fuels and raises the price of food since livestock or humans could eat it. Professor Don Hofstrand at Iowa State University says ...a 100 million gallon ethanol biorefinery will reduce [greenhouse gas] emissions by approximately 400,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents per year. Although ethanol requires greenhouse gases to be emitted for production, ethanol fuel s net emissions are fifty four percent less than gasoline. Half of the emissions related to producing ethanol are related to growing crops, while the other half is contributed to refining the fuel (Hofstrand). The burning and production of ethanol combined has a smaller carbon footprint than petroleum fuels. This makes it a good fuel substitution while even greener forms of energy are developed to power automobiles and machinery. Reduced greenhouse gases can help slow climate change. William Carey was an English Baptistmissionary. He was born on 17 August 1761 in Paulerspury, England. As a child he was known for his ability to learn languages. He even taught himself Latin. The man s son, Carey s friend, denied that his father made the comment. In 1789 Carey became the main pastor of a church in Leicester. A few years later he published an enquiry that had five different parts. In part one he used scripture in order to convince people that they had a duty as a Christian to spread the gospel throughout the world. The second part contained the history of missions. Part three was just statistics in order to show how many people need to be reached. The fourth part covered the dangers and struggles one might face as a missionary. Disney s movie Aladdin (1992), was a high profile release, the winner of two Academy Awards, and one of the most successful Disney films ever produced (Giroux, 104); however, what is often disregarded is the obvious depiction of careless racism towards Arabs seen in the illustrations of the characters, the statuses into which they are placed and the lyrics of the opening song near beginning of the film. One Arab merchant even tries to cut off Jasmine s hand when she doesn t have money to pay for an apple she gave to a hungry boy. Not once in the movie does it show a wealthy man living outside the palace among civilization. This is not only unrealistic but it is also very insulting towards the Arabic culture. When it comes to the illustrations of his popular characters in Aladdin, Disney proves to be quite racist. Most of the small part, background characters and especially the bad guys , such as Jafar and the palace guards, all have incredibly distinct Arabic appearances. Every one of them stereotypically consists of beards, large noses, sinister eyes, and heavy accents, and they re wielding swords constantly (Giroux, 104). In contrast, Aladdin the hero, looks and talks like an All American man. His skin is pale and he wants to be addressed as Al, which is an American name rather than Arabic. He does not have a beard, big nose, turban, or accent. The key point in this illustration is that Disney is establishing that Aladdin looks right for the part of a hero, while Jafar looks right for a villain. • 35. The Occurrence Of Rape Essay Sexual urge ... lust ... desire ... force (Emma, 2012) these are all words used by real life sexual offenders to describe their accounts and what motivated them to commit such crimes. Relative terms such as rape culture have become increasingly relevant to one of the most discussed issues in contemporary society. However, a majority of the discussion centres around the impact on the victims, as well as the injustice of their behaviour. Little of the discussion looks at what goes on through the minds of these types of offenders. In this essay, I will attempt to unpack a number of theories that discuss the roots of the occurrence of rape. This will be evaluated in conjunction with the criminological theory of seductions of crime, as well as the conflict theory. In addition to this, I will scrutinise these theories and its flaws. I will also be using the example of a real life convicted rapist to show his version of how someone could become a sex offender. Furthermore, an analysis on different character traits of sex offenders will follow this, as well as an investigation on rape culture in order to develop a more informed understanding on sexual offending. A number of theories have been developed to help explain the reasons why rape occurs. Thornhill and Palmer developed the evolutionary theory that connects rape to primitive traits (Siegert Ward, 2002 cited in Lowell, 2010: 158). • 36. Analysis Of A Certain Lady By Dorothy Parker Love, by definition, is an intense feeling of affection, associated with attachment. Love can be very painful for many people since they end up getting hurt by the person they love. With the power love possesses, it has been used throughout literature in plays, books, poems, essays, and more. Dorothy Parker was a writer starting when she was in her twenties. Over the years, she began writingher own books, which became very popular. She expanded her writing style through her career and became very well known for how realistic and blunt her writing was. In the poem A Certain Lady, Dorothy Parker uses symbolism to convey a theme of how damaging lovecan be. For example, Parker describes eager lips to show her attraction to him, even though he was causing her pain by not being faithful. She also describes that her heart is dying over and over every time he tells her of his excursions with other women. Parker seems regretful by the way she ends her poem, and the characters are never described individually. Symbolism is used throughout Parker s poem, creating an unclear connotation. She uses words such as eager lips to show how intense her emotions are. She feels so very strong for her companion that she is longing for, that she is hopeful for him to come back to her. Even though she misses him and wants him to come back from his trips, it is bittersweet for her because he always tells her about what exactly he has been doing while he was away. Parker also uses symbolism as she writes that her heart dies over and over, each time her companion explains how he has been with other women. This could represent that her love is dying for him each time he cheats on her, or that she is so disappointed in him that she cannot give him her whole heart. Though she seems desperate sometimes throughout the poem, I believe the female character is a strong woman who may just be intimidated by the man she loves, or even scared of what might happen if she were to leave. Parker ends the poem with a regretful, mysterious tone. The last lines of the poem read And what goes on, my love, while you re away, You ll never know. Ending the poem with the uncertainty of not knowing what really happens when he is away really allows for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Real life examples would be campuses across the United States, and individual municipalities across Canada advocating against sweatshops, and advocating for sweat free goods. Student activists in universities in the United States have started to disallow purchasing university merchandise from factories that don t respect worker s rights. This push is coming from the United Students Against Sweatshops, who have over the years organized strikes, rallies, and charity events to demand that American universities make stronger policies to disallow clothing for students to come from sweatshops. Pressure from students have made numerous universities support this cause. Furthermore, students have demanded that popular clothing brands like Nike disclose which factories are used to make university merchandise, and Nike did give the locations and names of its factories to the organization. Nike also promised to make sweatshop conditions better. This is an example of how student organizations are getting major companies to improve the conditions in sweatshops, and how major organizations share the view that sweatshops are extremely bad for worker s economic and social human rights. Student organizations in universities are also making companies pay their workers more in order for them to meet the living wage. While this does make prices for merchandise higher, it has a minimal impact on the consumer and a huge impact on the worker.
