1.Executive Summary
ABC Learning Centres Limited (ABC) has recently came into limelight in the childcare industry. It
went into receivership on 6 Nov 2008 and Australian Government has announced to assist ABC to
continue operation till end of 2008 by injecting $22 million.
An analysis has been done on ABC on why the company has landed itself into receivership by
analysing its annual Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement. Reading and
analysing of news and articles in relation to ABC has been done to support and supplement the
analysis.

In 2006, ABC acquired Learning Care Group, Busy Bees in UK and Forward Steps in New Zealand to
become the world largest child care provider. All these major acquisitions took place during 2005
2007.
In 2005, ABC bought over Funatastic Holding, the exclusive toys supplier for ABC. However, this
doesn t mean ABC is getting the most competitive price. By making Funatastic Holding too dependent
on ABC and may impede its growth.
In last quarter of 2007, ABC further acquire Leapfrog Nurseries group of 88 childcare centres,
increase its stakes to 80% in Mediasphere Pty Ltd in digital publishing and the completion of
acquisition of New Zealand College of Early Childhood Education.
They are involved in social activities like funding SIDS and Kids, Starlight Children s Foundation
Australia and the Royal Children s Hospital Brisbane, and many others. It also set up its own training
college, NIECE The National Institute of Early Childhood Education, which makes ABC one of
Australia s most popular training and assessment providers in this specialized field.
As a result of this rapid expansion, ABC financial woes start to unfold due to rumours about its $1.8
billion debt triggered a decline in the company s share price. The major shareholders were forced to

3. People Of All Ages Share AAspiration For Meaning,...
People of all ages share a aspiration for meaning, significance, and hope in their lives that can lead to
an underlying sense of purpose. Discovering and understanding our purpose provides us with a basis
and a map with clear directions for how we can live out life to the fullest. For each person, the
meaning of life may vary and be slightly different based on different cultures and morals. In our
humanistic culture, people pursue what they think they will find meaning in. Some of these quests for
meaning include success within business, prosperity in revenue, satisfying sexual desires,
entertainment, and doing good to other people. However, the knowledge and experiences in life
imposes the view that placing the needs of others before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meaningless! ...Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless (Ecclesiastes 1:2). King Solomon, the
writer of Ecclesiastes, had wealth beyond measure, wisdom beyond any man of his time or ours,
hundreds of women, palaces and gardens that were the envy of kingdoms, the best food and wine, and
every form of entertainment available. He said at one point that anything his heart wanted, he pursued.
And yet he summed up life under the sun life lived as though all there is to life is what we can see
with our eyes and experience with our senses is meaningless. Why is there such a void? Coming from
a christian background, we are lead to believe that God created us for something beyond what we can
experience in the here and now. Solomon said of God, He has also set eternity in the hearts of men...
(Ecclesiastes 3:11). In our hearts we are aware that the here and now is not all that there is.
In the journal article On Pursuit of the Purpose of Life: The Shona Metaphysical Perspective, the
author Mawere justifies that loving others is an instinctive advantage that gives life a sense of
meaning and purpose. For the people of Shona, the purpose of life on earth is to love in order to make
the world a better place to live. (Mawere, 2010).
There are many types of love that exist: the love that a mother has for her child, the love shared
between a husband and a wife, and the love between friends as well as love in relationships with the
other sex. Love is present

4. Nursing Students As A Nurse
Question In nursing schools around the world, nursing students, in particular, are known for being
pushed to the brink. It s a simple technique, considering that you re preparing them for careers where
they are on their toes day in and day out, catering to the needs and well being of others all the while
managing the high demand of a post secondary education. Sure, we all have deadlines and things to do
in a day, but are we pushing them too far? Are nursing students becoming too stressed? Why? And
how do we fix this? Or are we just weeding out those that can t handle the stress and are not prepared
to handle a career as a nurse? Rationale This is an important question in our society as the world is
gradually needing more and more nurses present in hospitals, emergency crews and long term care
facilities. Not everyone, though they think that they are able, can handle the stressful day to day
challenges of being a nursing student and, eventually, a nurse. As described in our online class,
biological stress is a physiological reaction to stressful events. For many students, especially around
the months of November and December, as well as March and April, the amount of homework begins
to pile up as midterms come to an end, and, final exams grow closer and closer. As such, our brain
perceives the accumulation of essays, final exams and deadlines as stressors. I believe that this is an
important question to answer as though there are stressors in the everyday working lives

6. Olaudah Equiano s Influence
The Influence and Career of Olaudah Equiano There have been many authors throughout history who
have impacted America, amongst them is Olaudah Equiano. Olaudah Equiano, a slave who wrote
about his terrible experiences, not only changed America, but changed the world. Equiano s life and
career were divided in two parts: his life as a slave and his life as a free man. He battled the slave
ships and helped abolish the slave institutions with the power and depth of his writings. Equiano s
most powerful piece of literature was The Interesting Narrative of the life of Olaudah Equiano because
of its devastating impact on the slave trade. Olaudah traveled from country to country selling his book

While alive, he and William Wilberforce fought with other abolitionists to bring down slavery. After
his passing the world changed for the better when slave ships were no longer permitted in England.
Once this happened, ripples spread throughout the world, leading many other countries to abolish
slavery including the United States of America. Equiano exhibited no bitterness or anger, revealing a
moral superiority over his tormentors that spoke volumes about the potential of the human spirit. He in
his very actions and way of treating others proved that he was in fact completely correct.
(norfolkblackhistorymonth.org). His spirit led the abolition movements even after he died. He not only
changed the world s morals as a whole, but also changed how slaves themselves stood up to slavery.
Equiano impacted the whole entire genre of slave writings. He was a major example in encouraging
slaves to stand up and fight with the use of language. Olaudah s left behind his memories to the people
of today, showing that slavery is wrong. Equiano proved to everyone that a black man could be just as
smart, and in this case even smarter than many white men. A young boy, born in Africa, stripped of his
name, and sold into slavery would become an anti slavery hero. Olaudah Equiano became one of the
most powerful leaders ever to live. Equiano could have

7. Theme Of Evil In The Kite Runner
The majority of literature at its core, can display a power struggle between the forces of good and evil.
These overarching ideas represent the human condition and how a certain state of being brings out
these concepts from deep within the hearts of men. This is exemplified in Khaled Hosseini s The Kite
Runner, in which evil permeates characters in the form of greed, abuse of power and deceit. The
themes of evil act as an affliction on Amir s mind in his treatment of Hassan, within Baba s sins
toward his family and religion and Assef, who s psychological insanity drove him toward cruel
exploits of others. Amir s character represents a development of the human spirit. He is inherently
good in his thoughts and actions early on in the story, but the reader can see him begin to evolve. The
actions of others, more specifically his father and Hassan cause him to become plagued with
aforementioned themes of evil. He sees himself largely influenced by greed and an ability to abuse his
power over Hassan. The evil metamorphoses Amir into a character driven by self interest at the
deprivation of others. Amir feels challenged for his father s love by Hassan and uses his social status
and educated ability to impose himself over Hassan when they read together. This abuse of power
shows the corruption within Amir that develops into greed as Baba continues to distance himself from
Amir. This selfishness climaxes when Hassan is defiled by Assef and Amir says

Wine was an unknown drink to most. It was first drank at the greatest feast in history (Standage, 43) in
Assyria, hosted by King Ashurnasirpal II (Standage, 43). In Mesopotamian, most people haven t drank

says wine and it s associated drinking paraphernalia became emblems of power. Prosperity, and
privilege. (Standage, 47). Production of wine became full swing by the time other pharaohs and kings

sophistication, and its encouragement of both hedonism and philosophical inquiry, wine embodied
Greek culture (Standage 66,67). Wine from Greece spread all around, as did its influence on Greek
culture. Wine became so distinguished that is became a symbol of the one who drank it, a mark of
wealth and social status of the drinker (Standage 75). In Rome, different herbs and spices were added
to wines, especially to the cheaper wines to hide the bad taste or imperfections. Mulsum, a drink drank

they drank when wine was unavailable. Lora, considered the worst wine of all, was drank by the

14. The Centres For Disease Control Released A Report Essay
Plan/Problem
On September 24th 2014, the Centres for Disease Control released a report stating the United States of
America has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the developed world, with a rate of 6.1 infant
deaths per 1000 live births.
Sarah C P Williams from the John Hopkins University in the United States, published a report for the
Stanford University School of Medicine identifying that that poor infant survival rates in the United
States are intrinsically linked to high rates of preterm births those that occur when a woman is
between 22 and 37 weeks pregnant, rather than the full term of 37 41 weeks.
When a fetus has experienced a gestation period of 37 weeks, it s organ systems are defined mature
and are able to support and sustain life.
When a fetus experiences a shortened period of gestation, their organ systems are underdeveloped.
They do not have fully formed lungs, their nervous system and brain connection are not established
and their senses are still in the process of maturing. By all accounts, the fetus is fragile and is
unprepared to support and sustain life in the extra uterine environment.

15. If Inequality Is Increasing, Are We Likely to See More...
The question assumes that there is a linear relationship between inequality and armed conflict; the rise
of the former inevitably leads to the increase of the latter. However, in the absence of functioning
communism or utopian egalitarianism, we need to concede that our world is full of inequalities, but
not all parts of the world are equally ridden by conflict. Moreover, large N studies of civil war,
conducted over the past few years, all seem to conclude that inequality is not directly linked to the risk
of civil war (Collier Hoeffler, 2004: 563 595; Fearon Laitin, 2003: 75 90; Hegre, Gissinger, Gleditsch,
2003: 251 276). Following this lead, I will argue for a non linear link between inequality and conflict
and for the multi causality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Contradictory results might be explained by emphasising the diversity of the term inequality . Mount
(2008:3), classifies four different forms of inequality: political inequality, inequality of opportunities,
inequality of treatment in society, inequality of membership in society. To this list we could add the,
partly overlapping, categories of inequality of race, gender, status, class, age, income, inequality of
access to resources, education and medical services. At any given place and time, the specific
constellation and degree of various forms of inequality will be unique. Can we expect distinct
constellations and levels of inequality to conform to the simple linear relationship suggested in the
title? Besan莽on s (2005) findings that different socio political set ups have differing results with
regards to conflict are but one hint towards greater complexity. As a result, she associates herself with
academics suggesting that causes for all types of civil wars and armed conflict are not necessarily
parallel. Instead, she argues, a micro analysis of specific cases might prove more fruitful. A claim for
complexity can be further underpinned by invoking Stewart s (2000) analysis of horizontal inequality.
Structurally, one can distinguish between vertical inequality, which is based on objectively
quantifiable differences between people (e.g. income, wealth, etc.) and

Considering spatial variability of public s preference for the Everglades restoration Everglades, the
largest subtropical wetland of North America, has encountered anthropogenic perturbation since the
last quarter of 19th century when canals were built and peatlands were drained for economic gain
(Godfrey and Catton, 2011). Since then, the system has been exploited, drained, polluted and changed
from its natural setup to escalate and widen the potential services from it. The present state is a highly
regulated system to buttress economic productivity and fulfill several regional demands. The
Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan, one of the world s largest restoration initiative, aims to
restore, protect and preserve the water resources of central and southern Florida (National Research
Council, 2014). While the restoration program is built on a foundation of retrospective science backed
by several years of sophisticated research on understanding the Everglades and similar ecosystem
(Estenoz and Bush, 2015), the human dimension of restoration was not studied adequately(Clarke and
Dalrymple, 2003; Kranzer, 2002; National Research Council, 2014). Particularly, the spatial extent of
residents preference or the heterogeneity of their opinion is important for CERP as the plan aims to

18. Wittgenstein Research Paper
Tell them I ve had a wonderful life. This was the last words of Ludwig Wittgenstein, who had been
one of the most influential philosophers of human history. In Ray Monk s biography Ludwig
Wittgenstein: The Duty of Genius, it is shown how wonderful Wittgenstein s life was. Not that it was
especially happy. It was full of personal suffering, which were mostly self imposed. There was the fact
of his Jewish ancestry, which weighed on him, and there was his strained relationship to his own
sexuality, itself spoiled with tragedy the two men whom he truly loved, David Pinsent and Francis
Skinner, died very young, and the one woman whom he planned to make his wife rejected him.
Besides, no one with Wittgenstein s unusually academical seriousness would have been a likely
candidate for happiness in the usual sense. For all of these, his life was full of wonders. Wittgenstein
has become the father of not only one but two of the major movements of modern philosophy: the
ideal language philosophy and ordinary language philosophy. His genius as a logician was
astonishing; The famous Bertrand Russell virtually gave up serious philosophy not long after meeting

19. Pros And Cons Of Violence In Childrens Literature
Many people have different views on whether or not they are for or against violence in children s
literature. I am for children s literature due to the fact that if one is not educated, how is one expected
to know. In this essay we will look at the pros and cons of including violence in children s literature.
Fairy tales originate from the past and majority of the stories include some sort of gory detail and
violence. They originated from oral traditions by adults telling stories to other adults, as these fairy
tales were not meant to before the children. Each tale was set for that specific era or time based on the
reality which was often a morbid one. Therefore we view old literature as gory and violent. Each
generation had a different reality or gore to it.
Many parents seek to have children s literature which contains violence removed or banned from all
access to young children. They complain that the subject matter of these books is too much for
children to handle. The parents do this as they believe it to be a form of protection from the dangerous
world we live in. they know all too well that what is expressed in the books is happening in reality.by
reading these violent books it evokes a sense of fear or the need to harm oneself or others. Therefore

20. Realism And Constructivism In World War 1
The two major theoretical approaches in international relations that help explain the major causes of
World War 1 are Constructivism and Realism. The prominent reasons for the beginning of World War
1 were, the numerous mutual defense alliances in place at the time, imperialism, and the assassination
of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The assassination of Ferdinand set off a chain of events that would
ultimately plunge the world into one of the deadliest wars of all time. When a Serbian nationalist
assassinated Ferdinand, Austria Hungary used that as justification to declare war on Serbia. Realism is
defined as, power ought to be the primary end of political action, whether in the domestic or
international arena (Moseley, Alexander). While Austria Hungary ... Show more content on

Millions were killed on both sides and it truly put into perspective how devastating wars can be.
Liberalism was the last theoretical approach but was left out of this paper because it didn t explain the
key causes of the war. Liberalism contains the same ideas of realism except that it believes that it is
possible to avoid war through international institutions, economic interdependence, and democracy.
Within World War 1 this theory didn t explain the causes that ultimately resulted in the War. Realism
and Constructivism both helped to explain the major causes brought up in this paper. Realism and
Constructivism are two very different ideas, The striking difference between realism and
constructivism lies in the approach to ideas the latter demands that we take seriously the role of ideas
in world politics, while the former completely disregards it. However, we already saw that realism has
much historical evidence in its favor, so is it even possible to defend social constructivism? Not only it
is possible, but constructivism even offers a much more accurate account for war (Lisinski, Ksawery).
As is evidenced by this quote, these two theories are drastically different but to explain this complex
war, we need both of them to accurately portray the causes. While imperialism, the assassination of
Ferdinand and the mutual defense alliances weren t the only causes of the war; they were the major
ones, which could be explained using the main international relations

service of others. Her legacy of good will and economic empowerment spans several continents and
several decades. Mrs. Chisholm advocated for immigrant women and girls in India, England and
Australia. Because of her faith, Mrs. Chisholm was met with much opposition. As a Catholic in a time
where Catholicism was viewed with mistrust and disdain, she had to overcome barriers simply
because of her belief system even though if anything, her beliefs helped to motivate her to do all the
great work she did for immigrant women and girls.
Born in 1808 to a well off British family and married to Captain Archibald Chisholm at the age of 22.
Mrs. Chisholm was born into a Protestant family but converted to Catholicism when she married her
husband who was Catholic. Mrs. Chisholm began her first philanthropic endeavor in 1832 by
founding the Female School of Industry for the Daughters of European Soldiers in Madras, India,
where her husband was stationed. Upon witnessing the horrible conditions of poverty, crime and
prostitution the wives and families of British soldiers faced she appealed to the Madras government to
allow her to help. Granted permission to start her school, she taught the women and girls important
subjects such as reading and writing as well as

22. Teaching Students with Adhd
Teaching Students with ADHD J. Palmer Capella University Abstract In recent history, the number of
students diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder has grown tremendously; causing
teachers to face new challenges on how to instruct students with behavioral and learning difficulties.
Students with ADHD have not only the privilege, but also the right to learn according to the Public
Law 94 142 and the Americans with Disabilities Act. There is growing debate about methods that are
best for students with ADHD including reward systems for behavior, to medications administered to
the individual. In order for a student to learn with ADHD, teachers should integrate a variety of
techniques, a general knowledge of medications and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on the research of Bennett et al. (1996), Elliott (1988), Liu et al. (1991), and Power et al.
(1995), it was predicted that: 1. Teachers knowledge of ADHD, knowledge of treatments for ADHD,
and ratings of acceptability for two common treatments (medication and behavior management
strategies) would demonstrate moderate positive relationships with one another. 2. Teachers
experience and training in working with students with ADHD would exhibit moderate positive
relationships with their knowledge of ADHD, knowledge of treatments for ADHD, and ratings of
treatment acceptability. Unfortunately some general education teachers have little to no training in
teaching students with ADHD successfully. The teachers who had more information and training about
ADHD and teaching techniques were found to be more likely to use the strategies and meet the
academic needs of diagnosed students than teachers who had not received training (Glass, 2001).
Medication and ADHD Throughout most research, teachers are shown to have different views on
using medication for treatment of ADHD. Many believe that the popularity of ADHD is due to the
endorsement of the medical profession; the doctors influence decision making in the government
which then results in the popularization of the concept and the ever widening boundaries of its
definition (Timimi, 2005). But there are also studies that show that students who are treated with
medication are more likely to

23. Homework in Moderation is Good Essays
Did you know that homework is one of the greatest causes of student dropouts and failing? Homework
has been a major debate across America ever since the beginning of the twentieth century. At first,
homework was seen as a muscle that could be trained by learning and people enjoyed that learning
could be done at home. This enthusiastic spirit did not last for long because in the forties, Professor H.
J. Otto explained that, Compulsory homework does not result in sufficiently improved academic
accomplishment (Otto 380). In the 1950s, with the launch of Sputnik, the United States feared that
Russia would dominate the world in technology if homework continued to be unnecessary to
complete. This incident has partially shaped our nation to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order for students to solidify their core understanding of certain topics, homework must be used
because it allows students to recall what they have learned outside of school and learning skills can be
improved. For example, Harris Cooper summarizes many of the positive outcomes that homework has
on a student s life. Cooper categorizes these outcomes into four different sections: immediate
achievement and learning, long term academic benefits, nonacademic benefits, and greater parental
appreciation of and involvement in school. Under the first section, Cooper explains that one s learning
can progress rapidly because there will be an increased understanding, better critical thinking, greater
concept formation, information processing, curriculum enrichment, and better retention of factual
knowledge for a student in the learning process. In terms of long term academic benefits, homework
allows students to learn anything they want in their leisure time, an improved attitude toward school
can be observed, and new study habits can be formed to finish homework can classwork in more
efficient timing. However, Cooper s third category is considered one of the more important ones
because it shows how homework is not only limited in the life of an academic enthusiast, but also for
others, who do not focus on studying academic related subjects. For instance, according to Cooper s
studies, he has found that self direction,

24. The Bell Curve Dilemma And Performance Appraisal
The Bell curve conundrum
It is a well established fact that employed human capital provides the competitive edge to the firms
operating in the same competitive space. Organizations that have motivated and talented individuals
are likely to forge ahead of the pack, even if they have similar products or services. That is why it is
important that we manage the performance of the employees well. We discuss the goals to be achieved
during the year; provide feedback to employees on their progress and modify the direction as the year
progresses and organizational direction shifts. At the end of the performance year, start pulling
together information and evidence of how well the employees have achieved the goals. Then apply a
rating which will govern their payouts, promotions and compensation and create development plans
for the next year. We cannot fathom anything to go wrong in this textbook laid process. It has been a
best practice after all! But somehow performance appraisal is the most hated organizational practice
by the employees. No one is ever happy with the results of their performance appraisals. Many solid,
successful, and happy employees find their ratings discouraging. At the same time we find the
managers and HR to be fidgeting uncomfortably even after doing everything they could to ensure that
the performers are well fitted in the bell curve. There has to be a better way. Have the companies like
Microsoft, Cisco, Accenture and IBM found the better way by doing

In today s society, people are constantly being judged based on their physical appearance; lacking
aesthetics in any way may lead to rejection. In Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, Shelley created
characters that experienced what was going on in society during her day and what is still present in
society today. One of the characters s in Frankenstein was abandoned and left with no one due to his
undesirable physical appearance. In today s society, this is similar to what people with deformities
often experience. Due to the inferior mentality, race, and class in society in which Mary Shelley lived,
the creature s unappealing physical appearance played an immense role in the abandonment he
experienced; to this day, physical appearance still plays a huge role in society.

Along with Cancer and chemotherapy, Dwarfism can also cause deformities to a person s physical

Alexander Graham Bell had some good mentors when it came to his inventing. Bell also spent much
of his time inventing. Along with many other innovators of the 1870s, including Thomas Edison, he
worked om the multiplex telegraph a machine that would send and receive more than one signal over
an electrical wire at the same time (Streissguth). The fact that he worked with Thomas Edison, who is
one of the greatest inventors in history, shows that people had faith in him and believed that he could
accomplish great things. He had some excellent role models to look up to. He had some amazing
influences that helped lead him to the invention of the telephone.
Alexander Graham Bell has many different achievements, such as the Volta prize, President of the
National Geographic Society, and a regent of the Smithsonian Institution. He also invented things such
as, the air conditioning system, the hydrofoil speedboat and aerial transportation.
In 1880 the French government awarded Bell the Volta prize of 50,000 francs for inventing the
telephone. (Monkeyshines on America). His wining this award was helpful with his career. He used

30. Pretty How Town
For this week s journal I chose Anyone Lived in a Pretty How Town by E. E. Cummings. It is quite
interesting poem with simple words that can be easily understood by readers. The meaning of the
poem is that it describes the simple/ordinary life cycle of human beings. All people grow up, work, get
married and then die. For example, someones married their everyones laughed their crying and did
their dance (line 17 18) and One day anyone died I guess (line 25). It also shows the modern life, that
everyone is busy in their life and doesn t really care about others in their surroundings. As it stated,
women and men (both little and small) cared for anyone not at all (line 5 6). It also shows the common
and simple people, whose identity is not very important. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem, Cummings used a simple and weird names such as anyone , noone , and how town
maybe to represent a specific era or small town. The fifth element is personification which is a thing,
an animal, or an abstract term is made human (p.455). In the poem stars, rain, sun and moon are used
to show human s condition. Also bell is used to show all humans. For example, women and men (both
dong and ding) (line, 33). I think the way Cummings placed all the words in order, he represented a
good story. As a reader I was enjoying and had a feeling that I m reading a story. This sequence of
words and step by step definition made it easily for me to understand better the whole meaning behind
the poem. For example at first he started by giving an idea about people s ordinary life that no one
cares for each other anymore. Then it slowly goes to each step and phase of life and states how life is
going to end. The poetic elements that have been used are also simple and clear that can be easily
grasped. Therefore, it really helped me to imagine the whole poem, and interpret it

31. Eye Fatigue
David Warlick once said, We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher s
hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much
of our world. But is that true? Technology is not only costly, but it also hinders the student s health and
grades. With the use of technology, students are no longer learning cursive which is an essential part
of their learning. The health of the student is very important, especially if they want to do well in their
studies; however, it is difficult when they are staring at a tablet or computer, in school, for more than a
couple of hours. When the students stare at an electronic device for too long, it causes eye fatigue due
to the fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can divert the students from what is most important such as: paying attention to the teacher, doing
their homework, or playing an educational game, even if it is on the internet. Also, the teacher can not
monitor every student in class while explaining directions or teaching. Furthermore, computers and
tablets can not meet all the students needs, since all students do not learn the same way, if they learn
better hands on or orally. Technology can also take away valuable time learning from the teacher. So,
why do we want to bring technology into the classrooms if it is expensive, harms the students health
mentally and physically, it s not helping them, and students stop learning proper handwriting?
However, this can be stopped! Parents, who are in charge of their students, should gain more
knowledge about this and challenge the school board. Parents should also tell others, start a petition
against technology in classrooms and they should not only want safety for their children but also for
every else s kids. Their children are going to be the next generation of obesity, health problems and
learning challenges if the schools are allowing more and more technology in the classrooms, which
parents should be concerned

Drum N Bass and Breakbeat are two similar sounding genres that have coexisted together since the
early 2000s in their current guise. There have been many off shoots of both genres over the years, such
as Tech Step, Liquid, Jump up for Drum N Bass plus Nu Skool, Jungle, and Electro for Breakbeat, just
to name a few. They are both comparable in sound, production techniques and the technology used to
create the music, plus both can trace their roots deriving from Hardcore, which utilised breakbeats in
the early 90s, and originated from London. The main difference between the two genres is the Tempo

Bass and Breakbeat as a genre, showing the path and points of where the music has its origins.
I will give explanations of various sub genres of Breakbeat based music whilst exploring the path of
the originality of the term Breakbeat and its links with other parts of the Breakbeat family, such as
Breakbeat House or Breakbeat Garage which I will examine later in this chapter. Whilst the history of
Drum N Bass has been well documents (Reynolds 1998, Belle Fortune, 2005, Ferringo, 2011, Bradley,
2013) the focus of this study is not on the origins of Drum N Bass but rather on the originations of the
genre Breakbeat, and the exploration of why Breakbeat never had a comparable level of commercial
success as Drum N Bass.
What I believe to be obscure is the culture and background of Breakbeat as a genre, as there appears to
have been little research carried out into it as a genre. Also what seems to be difficult to pinpoint is
when the genre actually became Breakbeat and where did the Breakbeat only tag come from? There
are references to it as Breakbeat House dating as early as 1990 as noted by Simon Reynolds

33. Analysis Of Raphael Ravenscroft s The Moonlight Sonata...
It is my belief that every instrument has an anthem, every instrument has an instantly recognizable
piece that forms its epitome. Whether it be Beethoven s Moonlight Sonata for piano, Raphael
Ravenscroft s Sax hook in Gerry Rafferty s Baker Street, or G.C Colemans s Amen Break which has
been referred to as Six second drum break that shaped 1500 songs , every instrument has this end goal
to strive for, for violin, this piece is M茅ditation Religieuse.
M茅ditation, the dramatic interlude from the opera Tha茂s by French composer Jules Massenet, like
no other piece so thoroughly shows off the range and passion that in the right hands a violin can
execute. No longer confined to the realm of the Opera; Massonett s M茅ditation has taken on a life of
its own as a soloist piece. As a consequence, almost all of the great violinists of the modern age have
graced it with their own unique spin such as: Jascha Heifetz, Andre Rieu, and of course Joshua Bell.
Joshua Bell was born in Bloomington, Indiana on December 9th,1967. Bell s interest in music was
discovered at the age of four when his parents bought him a violin after finding Joshua making music

Modernization and Dependency: Alternative Perspectives in the Study of Latin American
Underdevelopment by J. Samuel Valenzuela and Arturo Valenzuela broadly compares and analyzes
modernization and the dependency approach (1978, p.536) within the context of underdevelopment in
Latin America.
Valenzuela and Valenzuela first begin by discussing the modernization perspective, its assumptions
and how this perspective relates to Latin America underdevelopment (1978, p.537). Valenzuela and
Valenzuela determined that modernization literature assumes that for a society to modernize it must
reject traditional values and patterns. Essentially, it is the internal traditional practises that need to be
dismantled for modernization to take place. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Development and underdevelopment are linked and condition each other mutually resulting in a
divided world that consists of industrial central countries and underdeveloped peripheral countries
(Valenzuela and Valenzuela, 1978, p.544), with the periphery often being constrained by its role in the
global capitalist system (Valenzuela and Valenzuela, 1978, p.544).
The level of analysis differs greatly between the modernization approach and dependency approach,
where modernization focuses predominantly on the behaviours, beliefs and traditions of individuals,
the dependency approach focuses on elements outside the individual unit such as international trade,
class alliances and conflict (Valenzuela and Valenzuela, 1978, p.550). Where the modernization
approach focuses on the microsocial, the dependency approach focuses on the macrosocial
(Valenzuela and Valenzuela, 1978, p.550).
Valenzuela and Valenzuela have determined that the dependency approach has a fundamental
advantage compared to modernization theory (1978, p.552), dependency perspective is much more
open to drawing from a broader body of evidence and range of phenomena, such as the relationship
between central countries and the periphery , trade and class alliances. Modernization theory, which
operates on a simple conceptual framework and a reductionist approach , such as the traditional
modern dichotomy (Valenzuela and Valenzuela, 1978, p.552),

There are implications regarding production and distribution of media content to a public audience. In
the media, as in any industry, big corporations play a vital role, but so do small, emerging ones. When
you lose small businesses, you lose big ideas. People who own their own businesses are their own
bosses. They are independent thinkers. They know they can t compete by imitating the big guys they
have to in novate, so they re less obsessed with earnings than they are with ideas. They are quicker to
seize on new technologies and new product ideas. They steal market share from the big companies,
spurring them to adopt new approaches. This process promotes competition, which leads to higher
product and service quality, more jobs, and greater wealth. It s called capitalism (Ted Turner). Today,
the only way for media companies to survive is to own everything up and down the media chain (Ted
Turner). I believe that conglomerates thrive better when they aren t in the hands of many, because the
idea of the company can get changed into something it was not intended to be. With more people in

unnecessary. In the sense of large companies, many advisors may be needed. The

Lower Body Adaptations to Power Lifting (Squats) Power is arguably the most important attribute for
an athlete. Specifically, it is most important for an athlete participating in a high intensity, anaerobic
sport. Anaerobic power is defined as the rate of energy release by cellular metabolic processes that
function without the involvement of oxygen. (Kenney 212) Having the ability to generate more power
means you will be able to like run faster, change direction quicker, and jump higher. Training for
power will have a much bigger impact on the athletes ability than just training for strength. Power
training will more than likely involve more complicated movements that must be done at a fast pace to
reach maximum results. Power is defined as the rate of performing work, thus the product of force and
velocity. (Kenney 211) Strength on the other hand, is just the maximum force the muscles are able to
produce. For example, if you have two athletes that squat the same weight, they both have the same
amount of strength, however if one of the athletes is able to perform that lift faster than the other, that
athlete has more power. With that being said, it is still important to also train for strength because
gains in power are only possible if you are making gains in strength through resistance training as
well. It is important to focus your training on the muscle groups and movements that are most alike
the type of sport you are playing. In most cases, the core and lower body

40. Mr Huckey Case Study
Mr. Hurley has a challenge on his hands, the largest of which is that he asked me to figure this out. Ok
now seriously we have to being to analyze the problem. The first thing we want to do is identify the
variables. In this case our variables will be the number of acres of corn and the amount of wheat that is
planted. We will further define them later. Next we have to identify our objective. In this case we are
looking to maximize profits and determine if participation in the government program will provide
him with greater profits than not participating in the program. Finally we identify the constraints; in
our example the constraints are the rotation restrictions: must plant at least 50 acres of each crop, if he
participates in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the profit is the largest from corn it makes sense to plant and harvest as much corn as possible,
however the requirement to have a minimum of 50 acres of wheat ensures that wheat is still in the
mix. So by opting to plant only the minimum wheat (50 acres) and maximizing on the remaining land
for corn (200 acres) we can calculate the profits expected and compare the two models. MAXIMIZE

41. Suzerain And The Vassal Analysis
Greetings Regna,
Great technical writing. You gave some critical thinking points on Suzerain (overlord) and the Vassal
(servant). As pointed out by Fee and Gordon, In Old Testament times, covenants were often given by
an all powerful suzerain (overlord) to a weaker, dependent vassal (servant). The Israelites were chosen
to be a covenant keeping people and breaking the covenant led to dire consequences. Fee and Gordon
continue, What is important for your understanding is that in making a covenant with Israel on Sinai,
God used this well known covenant form when he constituted the binding contract between himself
(Yahweh = the Lord ) and his vassal, Israel. In return for benefits and protection, Israel was expected
to keep the many stipulations

42. Essay on Life Along the Silk Road
Susan Whitfield writes Life along the Silk Road based on character stories occurring between the
eight and tenth century, all living at different times. She writes this history for several reasons. First,
she writes it to change the negative perception of the history of Central Asia that we know through the
annals of its neighbors. By explaining the history of the region through the eyes of its own occupants,
it rids the history of any distorted views from neighboring civilizations. She uses the comparison of
trying to examine the life of the Atlantic Ocean by studying the ecology of Europe. Another perception
Whitfield attempts to overcome is that of the present day Silk Road. Today, it is largely Islam, and it is
occupied by Turkic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of these stories give accounts of what life was like on the Silk Road. The Soldier s Tale is a very
bloody account of what life was like. For twenty five years, Seg Lhaton, a Tibetan soldier, had been at
battle. The Silk Road was his home during this time. The Tibetan army controlled a large region of the
Silk Road between Sogdiana and China. They blocked all trade and diplomatic missions through that
region. They only way trade could persist was to go another route through Uighur territory. They,
however, charged tolls for safe passage. China and Tibet were at war for years. Many battles were
fought that resulted in much blood shed. The story of these battles gives a better insight as to what
happened, rather than simply spitting out facts about who won. Whitefield also uses this story to
describe some of the harsh conditions along the road. She mentioned that at some points water was
extremely scarce. However, at other times there were major floods that acted as major barriers. Often
dividing the Chinese from the Tibetans, and postponing a battle. There was also a story about a
Chinese officer who lost his foot to frostbite while traveling through the mountains. In the end of the
story, Seg Lhaton has to travel over 1,500 miles to get back to his home. The Princess s Tale shows a
lot of the harsh conditions that one would face when traveling on the Silk Road. Princess Taihe
journey begins traveling

43. Renaissance Art Outline
1. The Renaissance got its start among the northern Italian city sates after a thousand years of
medieval brutality and barbarism, [Giorgio] Vasari claimed, Italian artists and thinkers had bravely
restored the lost perfection of art and philosophy as known as the ancients (Backman, page 373). The
cultural elite of the time was bringing the ideas, moral values, art, and civic mindedness back to life
to, what they believed, the two high points of Western culture: Periclean Athens and Republican Rome
(Backman, page373). Pier Paolo Vergerio, and early Renaissance writer on education, insisted that
only the study of the classical liberal arts can lift society from the moral and spiritual decay of the
medieval era (Backman, page 374).This gave fresh hope and creative energy to Europe (Backman, ...

There are a number of fundamental elements of humanism. One would be to prevail over suffering
and another, to change things in our lives for the better. To live life to the fullest, but still help others
live theirs that way as well. The best one can do is find comfort, beauty, or value in the broken shards
of the world scattered at one s feet (Backman, page 377).
3. Martin Luther s argument to the Catholic Church was against the church s practice of selling
indulgences (Backman, page 395). In order to be fully forgiven of sin, according to the Catholic
Doctrine, you must meet the four requirements: contrition, confession, absolution, and satisfaction.
After the first three, the forth one must then make some sort of restitution for what one did (Backman,
page 395). An exploit to this would be a special donation to the church was one way of earning the
indulgence (Backman, page 395).
4. The printing press, invented by Johannes Gutenburg, played a big part in the Renaissance and the
Reformation because it allowed the copying of written works be copied faster and pour over Europe
like a tide (Backman, page 384). The quicker the scriptures, the faster the

44. The Term Total War
The comprehension of the term total war has had great significance towards the understanding as to
how wars are fought, affect society and differ from other conflicts. The main issue that arises is
conclusively defining total war and is continually differing between both historians and military
combatants alike. Roger Chickering defines states total war is distinguished by its intensity and extent.
Theatres of operation span the globe; the scale of the battle is practically limitless all the while adding
total war requires the mobilisation not only of armed forced but also of whole populations This
definition, while not quintessential is a good starting point for a definition due to its broadness and
acceptance of the idea of the incapability to fully mobilise a society s entire resource. David A. Bell
states that it is often defined as a war involving the complete mobilization of a society s resources to
achieve the absolute destruction of an enemy, with all distinction erased between combatants and non
combatants . However, he notes the limitations of such an idea including the inability for societies to
meet such criterion, in particular, the ability for a society to completely utilise its resources towards
the war effort. Ultimately, Jeremey black, while not giving a conclusive definition for the term, total
war, does acknowledge different definitions by various individuals distilling many of their arguments
and consequently outlining main characteristics of

45. The Controversy Of Youth Sports
In the most recent decade, the controversy of youth sports has been a very important discussion for
people in the United States. Sports are a popular pastime for young athletes, and there are
approximately 45 million participants of youth sports in the US. However, just like most things, there
are pros and cons to be considered of these activities.
In an article by John R. Gerdy, he states that the biggest problems with youth sports are the parents
and coaches. At a typical practice, most of the time is dedicated to fundamental skill instructions and
only a small percentage of the practice is actually allowed for the player to have fun playing pick up
games without adult involvement. Allowing kids to be alone for their own practice then they
