Science Fair Projects At Woodstock Middle School And I Am...
Research Paper Marissa Chudy
Several students are doing Science Fair projects at Woodstock Middle School and I am one of the
seventh grade students. The topic I shall be doing is on how bridge structure affects the weight
bearing capacity. I chose this specific topic to guide bridge builders in the right direction on
what bridge is safest for public use. The key topics I plan to research on include the following:
Beam, Warren Truss, suspension, cable stayed, and arch bridges. I shall use the scientific method
to guide me through this process. Like every other science project, mine starts with a question.
How does bridge structure affect the weight bearing capacity? is the question. If I change the
bridge structure on the most popular bridges, then those specific bridges will be capable of
holding longer and hold larger amounts of weight. is the hypothesis. The three types of variables
used are independent, dependent, and control variables. These variables include the location of the
bridge, the bucket, the amount of water, the supplies, and the climate I experiment in. There are
multiple items and steps to fully complete the experiment. My materials include the following:
Graph paper, 200 regular Popsicle sticks, wire cutters, wood glue, 100 cotton swabs, 72 medium
and small binder clips, one half inch width clear tape, masking tape, gram balance, loading block

The Negative Impacts Of Smoking
The most common problems that are destroying the health of young generations and killing
thousands and thousands adults every day is smoking cigarette. The issue of smoking has become
one of the most significant and controversial debates in Australia, due its health problem and the
effect of the environment atmosphere. Researches and medics worldwide were studying the main
causes that makes people smoke and why? (Backes, 2016). According to Dr Jewell s article,
reveals that there are lots of factors that influencing young children to smoke. Factors such as
social influence or peer pressure, curiosity, advertising, media as well as family (Jewell, 2015).

However, parents and family are more responsible for the children as they re growing. This will
help the young kids to grow with respect and good appearance that will bring respectable value in
the family.
FAMILY
The importance of parents in life is the essential thing that every child need. Father and mother
serve as the role models not only through direct relations with their kids but through the example
they present their attitude and behaviour inside the family and in the external world. Family play
a big part in influential the behaviour and beliefs of an individual through parent expectations
and social media. When it comes to life influence, parents holds a major role in shaping the
attitudes of the young people, which means that the negative and positive impact of teenagers
who might develop a view independent of their close relative or parents. Parents play the main
role in child is growth. They play a significant role in a lifestyle, mental health, and physical,
social, financial as well as career development. This shows that they control and prepare the
pathway or the footprint for them to follow. This insinuate that adolescences are more likely to
smoke if they close relative or parents were smokers, even if they quit smoking long time ago.
Teenagers with an older brother or sister who smoke s are also more likely to start smoking
cigarettes.

The Magnetic Field Of Magnets
Abstract Summary
Magnets have a magnetic field surrounding them and these fields is the magnetism force that the
magnet poses of an object. On a large scale, the Earth is a magnet which also has a magnetic field.
Magnets also has North and South poles which can flip. The amount of magnetic material attracted
to the magnet, allows the magnet s poles to flip. Flipping on the earth s magnet could cause
destruction on the earth. The magnetic field protects earth from solar radiation.
Purpose of the Experiment:
The purpose of this experiment is to discover if a magnet physically turns or if the magnetic field
weakens to allow the North and South poles to flip.
Methods:
Lay the bar magnet on a flat surface so that it is facing a particular direction other than North. This
allows to see if the magnet physically towards the North.
Place some nuts and bolts on the magnet (same amount throughout the experiment)
Tip magnet upside down and observe how many nuts and bolts fall off of the magnet.
Record observations.
Repeat the above steps several times, adding the same amount of nuts and bolts at the same distance
as used in the beginning of the experiment. Every time that the experiment is repeated, observe and
record the amount of falling nuts and bolts
Conclusion:
The hypothesis was correct but is was also wrong because the magnetic field did weaken but the
magnet also physically turned. This shows that for magnetic poles to flip, the magnetic field needs
to weaken

The Legacy Of The Jim Crow Laws
The years leading up to the 1960 s were ones full of worldly and civil unrest. Wars raged, blood
spilled, and many lives were lost. However, these wars weren t always fought across continents
and countries. Some were fought internally, without involving assault rifles or trenches. The war
I m speaking did involve two sides, but not Axis and Union. This war dealt with racial
segregation and hatred among races . This movement sprouted all the way from the roots of
slavery and the oppression of those enslaved. Nearly a hundred years after the end of slavery a
clash between races was still very prevalent in the United States. Segregation was in full effect and
blacks everywhere were being treated beyond unfairly. Blacks and even some others,... Show more

However, this movement would not come without its fair share of violence and hatred. Plenty of
resistance came from whites who believed their race was superior. The NAACP (National
Association for the Advancement of Colored People) did the best they could in order to fight
against this racism, starting their anti lynching campaign in the 1930 s. While other organizations
attempted to start campaigns like this as well, the NAACP proved to be the most influential
organization during the civil rights movement (Janken, n.d.). Perhaps the most detrimental
organization towards this movement was one known as the Ku Klux Klan, also known as the KKK.
The KKK were, and still are huge advocates of white supremacy and fought against more than
just the blacks. They were/still are known to be hateful towards Jews, Catholics, immigrants, and
many more (History.com, 2009). The KKK was responsible for countless crimes during this era.
Blacks were lynched, houses were burned to the ground, and countless black families were torn
apart. The KKK spread across and occupied nearly every southern states in the United States in the
years before the Civil Rights Act of 1964. However, despite all of this adversity, many blacks
continued to protest and fight one way or another. This was the beginning of the monumental
protests led by two of the most important and influential figures of the civil rights

Essay on Navigating Interstitial Spaces
Navigating Interstitial Spaces
[T]he law permits the Americans to do what they please.
Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America
The protection of virtue, I submit, requires an understanding of interstitial spaces spaces where
formalist adherence to rules and laws does not suffice to adequately promote virtue. Recognition of
these spaces spawned agent morality and Aristotle s practical wisdom. Fascination with these
spaces fueled Alexis de Tocquevilles inquiry into American religious, familial and political mores
in Democracy in America. Though America s formal, codified laws of the 1830s granted dangerous
freedom to the individual, Americans managed to navigate interstitial spaces with assiduous virtue.

Given the arguments in my second seminar paper on Socratic citizenship, the comparison
between Plato s Guardians and Aristotle s men of practical wisdom seems to be a reasonable
one. Both Guardians and men of practical wisdom operate relatively freely in a moral system of
substantive justice, with little reference to fixed principles. Plato s discussion of democracy in
the Republic and of obedience in the Crito, however, makes clear that he did not believe regular
individuals could operate virtuously in interstitial spaces between fixed rules and principles. Plato
feared a democratic expansion of liberty which would allow each citizen to pursue a way of life to
suit himself, as this would unleash a torrent of subjectivism and a bastardization of virtue. As such,
his ideal Republic employed absolute rule of the Guardians, noble lies and temperance (read
disinterest in political participation ) to close the interstitial spaces which would allow the clumsy
subjectivism of the lower classes to operate. Emancipated from the rule of the Guardians, the
democratic man cannot control his desires and sows the seeds of tyranny. Plato seems convinced
that the democratic expansion of interstitial spaces could only mean extinguishing virtue.
Pericles Athens provides a compelling counter example to Plato s pessimism about democracy.
Pericles prescribes a mixture of individual

Radiation Exposure From Procedures
What You Need to Know about Radiation Exposure from Procedures
Radiation is a form of energy that can enter the cells in your body. Radiation is used in some
common medical procedures. X rays and gamma rays are some of the most common types of
radiation used in imaging tests. These rays let health care providers create images of the organs
and tissues inside the body to help them make a diagnosis.
Radiation can also change cells and sometimes destroy them. Exposure to too much radiation can
cause health conditions such as cancer.
WHICH PROCEDURES INVOLVE RADIATION?
Imaging tests that use radiation include:
X rays.
Mammograms.
Bone density scans.
CT scans.
PET scans.

Shooting An Elephant By George Orwell
Shooting an Elephant The short story Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell describes Orwell
s experience as a police officer of a town in the British colony of Burma. George Orwell, a
military occupier in the Burmese land is much hated by the civilians. The hatred he receives from
the locals makes him despise the British Empires mistreatment on the Burmese people. However,
he also resents the locals in the village for revolting against him, for he is only a worker of the
British Empire. Shooting an Elephant by George Orwelldiscusses the author s views and experience
on peer pressure through the structure, quality, and applicability of the information shared. The
incident that took place was when a domesticated elephant escaped from its chains, and was
causing harm to the villagers and their property. The mahout a caretaker of the elephant went
searching towards a different route which happened to be 12 hours away; the only solution in
stopping this berserk elephant was by shooting it. George Orwell, the police officer who works in
Moulmein, Burmawas conflicted upon shooting or not shooting at the elephant. Orwell felt
pressured by the villagers when confronting the elephant. As he walked towards the field, a large
sum of the village was following close by. The villagers felt a wave of excitement as they saw the
gun in Orwell s hand; to witness the killing of the elephant was seen as a joyous celebration in their
eyes. The villager s excitement in witnessing the

Essay Online Social Networking
Online Social Networking sites have been rapidly emerging over the past decade. They are
changing the way people interact, make and break friendships, gossip and communicate. This
essay will explore the extent to which social networking has re defined social relationships and
consider whether or not the impact of social networking is generationally specific. Online social
networking could be defined in many ways depending on which book, article or journal you are
reading. One way social networking is defined is; an online service or website that focuses on
reflecting the social networks or social relationships among young people who may share the same
interests or activities. The encyclopedia of management (2009) stated that geographic... Show more

Life s most important social interactions no longer rely on face to face exchanges. Brown s
research tells us that the internet has drastically re shaped our individual social lives over the
distance of just a couple of decades, luring us into a virtual world where traditional interactions
such as living, loving, belonging and separating require new protocols (Brown, A, 2011 p 29).
For many in the future, the path followed when falling in love may be via an online website.
Dating sites, which we have once thought of as an uncool way to meet and connect with new
people, have grown in popularity. They may perhaps be seen to have taken on the role that was
once filled by family and friends. Facilitating and managing relationships online is projected to
become close to a billion dollar industry in the United States in 2011 , (Brown, A, 2011 p30).
Changes in online social relationships have increased rapidly, particularly over the past 30
years. Generational differences increase as the pace of social change increase , Shapiro said,
(Salman, J, 2009). Several different generations, for example the baby boomer generation,
generation Y and generation X, have embraced online social networking. As of 2009, 73% of
teenagers between the ages of 12 17 use online networking sites. This is an increase from 58% in
2007. Specifically, 82% of teenagers between the ages of 14 17 and 55% of youth between 12 13
year olds have a social networking profile

Apple Stereotyping
In Steven Levy s article The new iPods: Random sampling or not?, he postulates that Apple s
mechanism for shuffling songs is not entirely random. Apple popularized its shuffle feature in
2004 with the slogan Life is Random. However, Levy finds this difficult to believe. He
consistently gets songs by Steely Dan and nothing by Aretha Franklin, despite the supposed
randomized shuffling feature. Yet, Apple maintains that its shuffling process is randomized.
Ultimately, the problem is because of Apple s coding, user error, or due to random sampling error.
Apple describes its process of shuffling like a Vegas dealer shuffles a deck of cards. The
effectiveness of this process is dependant upon the code that Apple uses. If there is any bias

Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex Case Study
Overview:
The Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex (DLPFC) is part of the frontal lobe, one of the most complex
parts of the brain and among the last areas to develop. According to numerous neuroimaging
studies, it may not be fully mature until a person s mid 20s. The DLFPC has numerous connections
with other parts of the brain and helps integrate information from different systems.
The DLPFC is involved in higher order processing and executive functions like working memory,
planning, attention, and self regulation. These functions are crucial for everyday tasks like
learning, decision making, and socializing.
Location:
The Prefrontal Cortex lies in the frontal lobe anterior to the motor, premotor, and limbic areas and
makes up about в…“ of the total neocortical area of the brain. The prefrontal cortex may be further
subdivided into the dorsolateral, orbitofrontal, and (sometimes) ventrolateral cortices, though there
is some debate about these divisions. There is not a clear anatomical line where the DLPFC begins
and ends. One way of defining it is by its connection to the parvocellular subdivision of the
mediodorsal nucleus of the thalamus. Some authors say it includes Brodmann Areas 9 and 46 only,

Compare And Contrast The Renaissance Art And Paintings
When looking at the paintings that were created throughout the Renaissance art period, there are
multiple paintings that depict religious stories. The best of these paintings has Jesus depicted
within them. The majority of these paintings were created by those who had a large impact on the
art world today. One of the most famous paintings that reveals religion within it is The Last Supper
by Leonardo da Vinci, which is similarly to The Wedding at Cana by Paolo Veronese. When
analyzing these two pieces of artwork, they are often confused for the other due to the fact that
they are both based on biblical stories as well as how they are organized. There have been multiple
discussions about which painting has more impact based on their physical effect. Based on the
color and imagery depicted in the painting, The Wedding at Cana, it is one of the most influential
and inspiring stories ever told in a religious painting.
The painting, The Wedding at Cana, was created in the year 1563 which was a mixed time
between two art periods. This was during the end of the Renaissance art period and right in the
middle of the Mannerism art period. The Renaissance was the most famous art period in which
some of the most influential pieces of work were created. The Renaissance is the time when artists
were coming out of the middle ages and were able to put more creativity within their art work.
Cultures had mixed with one another and this was shown in the work that was produced by the

the largest airlines in the world. This case study will examine the relationship between demand and
capacity for the home hub of Delta Air Lines. Future predictions for air travel estimate enormous
growth rates as high as 50% by the year 2025. Airlines, airports, and the entire air travel
infrastructure will be challenged with the task of keeping up with this level of demand as we move

This data is also broken down by aircraft gate type which shows the increase in certain types of
aircraft. The data shows a total of 33 new gates required by year 2031. New domestic gates
comprise the majority of the increase (+24 gates). International gate increases (+9) make up the
rest of the total. Large increases in widebody aircraft gates can be observed for both the domestic
gate totals and international gate totals. This seems to correlate with the recent trends in widebody
aircraft efficiency increases and respectively the future orders of such aircraft as the Boeing 787
Dreamliner and the Airbus A350XWB.
These predicted increases in demand have highlighted a situation where in the future, capacity will
likely not be able to keep up with the demand and ATL will become deficient at maintaining
throughput. In 2004 the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had already began a Future Airport
Capacity Task (FACT) study which examined airport capacity across the country. The study was
meant to capture key airports within the U.S. that were predicted to have future capacity issues. In
2007 the FAA finished the updated second version of the study (FACT2) which outlined ATL as a
key airport in need of future expansion. Studies have continued with FAA and the Atlanta state

Death Row inmates, individuals and organizations are calling for a moratorium a cooling off

However, comprehensive studies, including the 1994 FBI Uniform crime Report, indicate that
capital punishment does not serve as a deterrent to crime. According to the American Civil Liberties

The Importance Of Andrew Jackson And The Common Man
Imagine if we didn t win the War of 1812 or if the common people felt unwanted? Where would
we be without Andrew Jackson? Andrew Jackson s presidency should be admired because he
supported the common man and thought the rich were overrated, he also a well known war
hero. This topic is relevant because Andrew Jacksonmade it so the people were treated as equals,
and how different groups shouldn t be treated better just because of their money status. It also is
relevant because our country wouldn t have double without the War of 182 or our success
during the Revolutionary. Andrew Jackson wasn t born into the richest family, in fact he lived
out most of his life an orphan. President Jackson always thought that the rich were over
privileged or didn t deserve what they were given. Andrew Jackson wanted to make sure the
common people felt just as equal as the rich. Jackson also was a well renowned war hero for his
victory during the War of 1812which gave the United Statesthe ability to double in size or it
wouldn t have given us the social status that was desired.Because Andrew Jackson was a common
man himself, how did he put towards that part of his life into his acts as president?
Andrew Jackson wasn t just a president, he was also a common man. Jackson was most famous
because he believed in the common man, and that s what he fought for and how he wanted to

The Account Of My Ten Foot Square Hut Summary
East Asian religious texts are filled with numerous valuable lessons that 21st century readers can
now all access. Moreover, two Classical Japanese texts, known as The Tale of Genji and The
Account of my Ten Foot Square Hut, both include the two main themes of attachment and suffering
within their stories. The Tale of Genji, was written by Murasaki Shikibu, a famous Japanese female
author, who began writing this story in 1001 during the Heain period that ranged from 794 1185
(Theme 9 Lecture 2, Mar.16). The tale follows an imperial prince, named Hikaru Genji, who

His descriptions of such events that he witnessed in his lifetime from hunger, poverty, and
sickness clearly embody suffering. The city that is filled with impurity and attachments could be
the cause of the natural disasters that include chaos and death, which a simple life renouncing in
nature could avoid (Theme 9 Lecture 3, Mar.19). Furthermore, the population s suffering can
symbolize the city as a whole that does not allow for one to discover one s buddha nature, hidden
within each of us (Theme 9 Lecture 3, Mar.19). Realizing one s buddha nature would demand one
s mind to be cleared of all delusions and attachments to exhibit the possibility to become the
Buddha ( The Dalai Lama: On Buddha Nature. ;Theme 9 Lecture 3, Mar.19). Therefore, by
retrieving in a hut that is distant from the city could allow oneself to eliminate these sources of
suffering composed of one s clinging to attachments creating impermanent delusions in our lives,
briefly explained by a Chinese hermit in modern day China in the documentary, called Amongst
White Clouds ( Amongst White Clouds , 27:00). This proves that the positive and negative
distinction between nature and the city still exists in 21 century East Asian religions (Theme 9

A Report On Car Sharing
Car Sharing
1.Introduction [carshare]
1.1.What is Car Sharing? [SAG_Report_ _Car_Sharing]
Car Sharing is the term used throughout most of the world to refer to mobility services. It is a
group of people that use one car in every single day to terminate their business daily. Car Sharing
refers to automobile rental services intended to substitute for private vehicle ownership, with
vehicles located in neighborhoods, are rented by the hour, and easy to check in and out. Carsharing
ranges from small informal cooperatives to sophisticated businesses with many vehicles. The
current transportation market offers consumers many options for purchasing an automobile, but
fewer practical options for using a vehicle occasionally. This contributes to several problems:
It results in inefficient use of valuable assets. Many private automobiles are used only a few hours
per week. These low annual mileage vehicles have high costs per vehicle mile.
It increases vehicle use. Because cars are expensive to own but cheap to drive, owners have the
incentive to maximize their use. This increases external costs such as traffic congestion, facility
costs, accidents and environmental impacts.
Some low income households cannot afford to drive at all, or they spend an excessive portion of
their budgets own vehicles they only need occasionally. This is a financial burden and contributes
to problems such as uninsured driving.
2.Car Sharing with fewer pollutants and use less fuel

Effect Of The Stroop Effect On Accuracy, Time And...
The Effect of the Stroop Effect on Accuracy, Time and Self Confidence Levels
Stroop s 1935 study was the first experiment to test the Stroop effect as we know it now. The
Stroop task measures the participants ability to ignore some parts of the stimuli, either the color of
the word or what the word actually reads and pay attention to others. This is especially the case
when the stimuli is incongruent, or when color written does not match the color of the font it is
written in. The research question that this study seeks to answer is what effect if any does the
Stroop Effect have on accuracy, time and confidence levels of participants.
In their 2012 study, Khanna and Gupta asked how lunch and sociability affected Stroop test scores.

Sheehan, Donovan and MacLeod (1988) sought to find out if hypnosis affected Stroop test
performance. Participants were sorted into two groups, those highly susceptible to hypnosis, and
those not really susceptible to hypnosis. The subjects were tested three times, waking, under
hypnosis with no strategy manipulation and hypnosis with strategy manipulation. This study found
that reaction times and accuracy were not significantly different between those highly susceptible
to hypnosis and those not susceptible, however, both groups of participants had significantly
slower reaction times when hypnotized. This study shows that hypnosis slows down reaction
time, and does not increase accuracy. The gap in research that this study is aiming to fill is the
relationship between the stroop effect and time, accuracy, and confidence self ratings. This study
will have participants read both a congruent and incongruent Stroop task for both time and
accuracy. After they are finished they will self rate their confidence levels. Based on previous
studies, I predict that there will be a main effect of list type, I think that the congruent list will be
read faster, with better accuracy and a higher confidence level. I also predict that there will be a
main effect of task type. I think that the word naming task will be read faster, with better accuracy,
and a higher confidence level. I also predict that there will be an interaction effect. The

Summary Of Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
Upon reading Upton Sinclair s book The Jungle, it can easily be seen that there were numerous
injustices occurring within the early 1900s Chicago government. He wrote the book in 1906 after
spending six months gathering research on the lives of poor, low class, immigrant families. With
this information, he published his first book, The Jungle, through which he displays the hardships a
immigrant family faces when they move to America. He chose the meat packing industryin the city
of Chicago as his backdrop for this story, and while the names of the characters are fictional,
most of the story is based on his real observations. He originally wrote the book trying to set forth
the breaking of human hearts by a system which exploits the labor of men and women for profit,
but people took it the wrong way, and Sinclair explained this misinterpretation when he says I
aimed at the public s heart, and by accident I hit it in the stomach. (NCBI) By this, he means that
he wanted the American people to see the plight of the immigrants but instead the general public
was more upset by the unsanitary condition of the meat they were ingesting. While Sinclair may
not have achieved his original goal, his book did in fact have a significant impact; an impact that
still effects the American people of today. It led to the creation of the Pure Food and Drugs Act
of 1906 which is the predecessor to the modern day FDA (Young 231) (US Food). The Jungle
shows the corruption in the Chicago government through the main character Jurgis and his trial,
the raping of his wife Ona, and the unsanitary conditions in the meat factories where he worked.
Sinclair shows the corruption in the Chicago government through the raping of Ona. Ona is the
teenage wife of Jurgis, and just a few months after their wedding she is raped by her own boss.
When Jurgis demands a reason for why she was gone for an entire night, she says He told me he
would have me turned off. He told me he would we would all of us lose our places. We could
never get anything to do here again. He he meant it he would have ruined us (Sinclair 109) Now
this example would be good to describe the corruption both in the meat packing factories, and in the
government. While it

Day after day, late students are punished or end up in detention due to short passing periods.
Having short passing periods can make a student s grade go down or worse when students are late
to class. This can be prevented by extending passing periods to 10 minutes. Although the staff at
H.P.M.S may disapprove, but in the long run, they will see the effects of having longer passing
periods has on students. Because of the short timeof passing periods, students at Happy Place

the positive effects are that students can get to class on time, and gives students and teachers time

And also, the traffic in the halls often crawls at the SPEED OF MOLASSES. Simply to say, it
can make you very late for class. Students also go to their class missing their books because they
don t have time to go to the locker to get their materials. This makes it worse for students because
they are unable to do work (Abdelmalek).
Furthermore into the topic, the 10 minute passing period lets and/or helps teachers prepare for their
next period. A longer passing period would prevent students from asking to go use the bathroom,
get a drink, or be late, so teacher(s) have the student s full concentration, If your student doesn t
have to interrupt you to use the restroom or get some water, it is going to be a better learning
environment for the rest of the students. Without these interruptions you may continue your lesson
and have student s full concentration, instead of worrying about their personal needs (Medina).
And also in addition to that, teachers will have more time to prepare for their next class
compared to 5 minutes, so teachers can get coffee or take a break during the passing period.
Therefore, passing periods should be extended to 10 minutes since there are upsides and very few
downsides, the upsides: Have more time to get to their classes, students can be spared from the

Force Awakens Vs Rogue One Analysis
#1 Draft Pick: Force Awakens Over Rogue One When you think of the number one draft pick,
the majority of the time football comes to mind. Well, this is not in this case. The number one
draft is the Star Wars movie which is the seventh movie in the series. That one fairs far better
than the antithetical film Rogue One. The Force Awakens occurs thirty years after the Galactic
Empire is defeated. The galaxy is faced with a new threat from an evil villain named Kylo Ren
and also the First Order which is a military dictatorship. A defector stormtrooper FN2817 also
known as Finn escapes the realm of the darkside and Kylo Ren. He ends up on Tatooine, which is

For both movies, it is a little confusing in the beginning because of the new characters in the
beginning of the movies and you just jump right into the plot line. The Force Awakens plot line
seems to make more sense throughout the movie and it s easier to understand if you have
watched the other movies. It has the same characters as the previous movies but there are a few
new characters. In The Force Awakens, the movie takes place at least 20 years after Return of
the Jedi. Princess Leia and Han Solo have a son together, and becomes evi. Rogue One has new
characters in it and doesn t fit as well as it should because of the new characters, which makes it
a little more complicated to follow along with since there is a lot of new characters to keep track
of. When watching the movies, watching them in order by movie number is ideal. Rogue One fits
in after the Empire Strikes Back and before Return of the Jedi because the plot line places the
movie in that time period. The Force Awakens fits in after Return of the Jedi because that is what
the timeline places the movie

Genre Of A Motivational Athlete Tweet
Genre can be defined in many different ways. The word genre is something that can be very
flexible; it s not something that is classified under a rigid definition. Genre is the way you separate
different things into different categories; it s how you classify items based on something that they
have in common. Also, there are many different digital artifacts that can be categorized into many
different genres; basically anything can be put into a genre; my digital artifact, which is a Kobe
Bryant tweet from 2014, can be categorized under the genre of a motivational athlete tweet. A
concise depiction about the tweet is Kobe saying that he wanted to thank the team that traded him
after they told him that they had no use for him on their team, and then he ended up winning five
championships with the Los Angeles Lakersand also go down as one of the best to ever play the
game of basketball. This tweet really stands out to me. It motivates me; just because someone says
that you can t do something doesn t mean that you can t do it, if you put your mind to it and put in
the work you can be as successful as you want. As stated before, this is a motivational athlete tweet,
which is meant to target the audience of either young athletes or people who need some sort of
motivationin their lives. Furthermore, this tweet s intended audience is most likely leaning towards
young aspiring athletes or people who just need some kind of motivation in their life. Kobe Bryant

Joan Didion s On Going Home By Joan Didion
What does the word home mean? In the essay On Going Home by Didion she recreates her
feelings and thoughts about her meaning of home. Family is a big part of one s life and
important one at that and Didion uses it as the center of her work. The work itself is about re
defining what home truly is. Home to many people is where you live but to Didion it was where
her family was. The story starts out as an innocent retelling of how it is her daughter s first
birthday and how she is celebrating it with her family down in Central Valley California. Yet as
the essay goes on it starts to become a blast to the past into Didion s childhood. She describes the

positioning the main clause at the end of the sentence. This allows her to emphasize the word
paralyzed, which aptly describes how Didion feels when considering both of her home lives
(troykelleher3). This quote gives off the idea that she is scared to draw her attention to the past
and take it apart, but she barely now gained the backbone to face her past. Dust is constantly
talked about in the essay probably suggesting she can t move on in her life. When dust starts to
collect it usually means someone doesn t have the time to clean it up or they don t care. Didion
s inability to clean up one drawer just shows that she is struggling. Didion s home doesn t have
the feeling of safety because of this quote I come to dread my husband s evening call...suggests

perception that she is most likely cold inside because she doesn t have somewhere she feels
absolutely comfortable. The work On Going Home is Didion s point of view of what home
ultimately is by using her own personal experiences. The essay describes her struggle to connect
her current home life with her prior home life, which are vastly different (troykelleher3). She starts
off her essay by stating this By home I do not mean the house in Los Angles where my husband

These sanctions do seem appropriate. It is unclear from the details of the release what the
defendant s motives were in his negligence. If he was simply ignorant or lazy, then the sanction
seems fair, and hopefully served as future motivation for Federico to take his work seriously.
However, if the oversights and lack of documentation were done to cover up shoddy work in order

than he received. The accounting profession relies on public trust, as does the financial market as a

Essay on Matthew s Christology
Matthew s Christology
Matthew s Christology is one that emphasises to a Jewish audience the Jewishness of Jesus. It will
be the purpose of this paper to argue that the raison d etre of Matthew s Christology is to portray
Jesus as entirely compatible if not with the Judaism of his day then with ancient Judaic tradition,
namely the Old Testament. Whilst there are numerous titles given to Jesus that are exclusive
/predominant within the Matthean account, such as that of Son of God, it is the writer s assertion
that these merely complement Matthew s central theses; this being the portrayal of Jesus as

3:17; Isaiah 42:1). Consequently, we see in Matthew s depiction of Jesus a fundamental tenet of
Israel s theological history personified.
Jesus is, as the Messianic Servant, shown to be the fulfilment of further Isaianic prophecy, that of
the suffering Servant. Throughout Matthew s gospel there are six direct allusions to Isaiah 53
indicating a definite link and identification by Matthew with this Israelite and Messianic hope.
Further, Farmer suggests that direct allusions notwithstanding in 20:20 28 and especially 26:26 30
Isaiah 53 s redemptive hope is supposed to be fulfilled through Jesus description of the outcome of
his crucifixion.
Isaianic prophecy aside it is also clear that Matthew above the other three evangelists presents
Jesus as the fulfilment of the law, a new Moses. The structure of the book into five sections is
intended to help the Jewish readers identify Jesus as an antecedent of Moses. Jesus is according
to some scholars a type of Moses bringing about a new exodus and a new Israel. More explicitly
however, Matthew portrays Jesus as the only man to have fulfilled the law in its entirety as well
as the messianic fulfilment of Old Testament prophecy through the many formula quotations (3:15;
5:17 48;12:17 21; 13:35; 21:5, 16, 42; 22:44; 23:39; 26:31; 27:9, 35, 46).

Beginning this middle kingdom of Egypt, the most significant position a women can hold, was

apart: men and children are separated. Children come back from school to find that their parents
have disappeared. Women return from shopping to find their houses sealed, their families gone.
Anne Frank. When families are separated it s hard on them. They don t know what had happened

they are coming back. When families are pulled apart it makes them about one another, so a

Theda Bara, Mortica Addams
Throughout modern history there have been certain characters that personify the very essence
of Goth, for instance Theda Bara [1885 1995], Mortica Addams in the 1960s TV series The
Addams Family, Italian heiress Marchesa Luisa Casati [1881 1957], to more recent iconic Goths
like Helena Bonham Carter and maverick dresser Daphne McGuinness, which has helped inspire
individuals and the movement, to create their own persona and sense of the gothic style. The
Goth subculture can be broadly divided into various subsets which have there own unique
characteristics for instance Cyber Goth, Gothic Lolita and Fetish Goth. In the early days of the
movement in the 1980s and 1990s, the Goth subculture fashion drawing heavily on the early
fetish, bondage and S M style for example straps, buckles, zips, waistcoats, frock coats, corsets,
gowns, thigh high stiletto boots and hairstyles like backcombing and the Deathawk, take some
influence from the punk movement. Ian Astbury 1997 describes the early fashion characteristics
for the beginning of the Goth culture in the eighties and nineties; For the male ... black spiky hair
and a black leather jacket. For the women ... black fishnets, black leather thigh high boots ... dark
makeup and the big black spiky hair (History of Goth:2016). The traditional materials for the
Gothic style includes lace, brocade, leather, velvet, however modern Goths within the various
subsets have created new materials such as rubber and PVC to create their own version of the
aesthetics. It could be said Gothic punks like Siouxsie Sioux, Joy Dividson, Peter Murphy, Sid

History And Development Of Nursing Education
Comparing Nursing Education in Ireland and China Lakeisha Alexander Florida International
University Introduction The countries that I have chosen to research are Ireland and China. I
chose Ireland because while I was in high school there was an opportunity to study abroad in the
country; I was unable to participate in the program but was curious about what receiving an
education there would be like. My opinion of nursing education in Ireland is that it s at a basic
level and not as advanced as the nursing education you would receive in the United States. The
other country that I have chosen to research is China and this is because I think that they are
advanced in technology and because of their advancement the nursing education should be more
progressive than in the United States. Ireland and China are two different countries that have gone
through tremendous strides to bring about a successful nursing education system. Political History
and Development of Nursing Education Ireland. Nursing in Ireland begun in the 1950 1970 with
the apprenticeship model, in the model new nurses were trained on the job by more experienced
nurses (O Dwyer, 2007). The apprenticeship model was seen as not being financially sustainable
in the 1950 1960, and Ireland was unable to create an alternative model of nursing education. The
educational needs of nurses were seen as subordinate to the needs of the service and so nursing
students were used as

Comparing the Supernatural in William Shakespeare s...
Comparing the Supernatural in William Shakespeare s Hamlet and Macbeth
In the time of William Shakespeare there was a strong belief in the existence of the supernatural.
Therefore, the supernatural is a recurring theme in many of Shakespeare s plays. In two such plays,
Hamlet and Macbeth, the supernatural is an integral part of the structure of the plot. It provides a
catalyst for action, an insight into character, and an augmentation of the impact of many key scenes.
The supernatural appears to the audience in many varied forms. In Hamlet there appears perhaps
the most notable of the supernatural forms, the ghost. However, in Macbeth, not only does a ghost
appear, but also a floating dagger, witches, and prophetic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Hamlet, having no suspicion of the ghost after the production by the players, encounters the ghost
next in his mother s room. In this scene the ghost makes an appearance to whet Hamlet s almost
blunted purpose (III.iv.126). Hamlet is now convinced of the ghost and he no longer harbors any
suspicion. He now listens to it, Speak to her, Hamlet (III.iv.130). The supernatural is the guiding
force behind Hamlet. The ghost asks Hamlet to seek revenge for the King s death and Hamlet is
thus propelled to set into action a series of events that ends in his own death.
The supernatural occurs four times during the course of Macbeth. It occurs in all the appearances of
the witches, in the appearance of Banquo s ghost, in the apparitions with their prophecies, and in
the air drawn dagger that guides Macbeth towards his victim. Of the supernatural phenomenon
evident in Macbeth the witches are perhaps the most important. The witches represent Macbeth s
evil ambitions. They are the catalysts that unleash Macbeth s evil aspirations. Macbeth believes the
witches and wishes to know more about the future so after the banquet he seeks them out at their
cave. He wants to know the answers to his questions regardless of whether the consequence is
violent and destructive to nature. The witches promise to answer and, following Macbeth s wishes,
they add further unnatural ingredients to the cauldron and call up their masters. This is

Norman Rockwell s Homecoming Marine
Homecoming Marine is a painting by Norman Rockwell, it was featured on the cover of The
Saturday Evening Post in October of 1945. The original is 46x42 , is an oil painting on canvas,
and can be found in the Norman Rockwell Museum collection. The painting shows a young
soldier seated on a box just to the left of center, in what appears to be a mechanics workshop,
surrounded by six other people. He is dressed in a green military uniform; his shirt has a lighter
green tone compared to his pants. His military hat is tall, circular and perched high on his head
with a leather band around the base of the hat where it meets the black brim. Affixed to the front
of the hat appears to be a black insignia. He wears six different color ribbons over his... Show more

garage, and he told him when he returned from the war his job will be waiting for him. He
probably told him that because he is also the marine s father, as this was a family business. The
marine s brother is seated on the work bench and has been carrying the load of two people while
his brother was away. The two boys in the room are the brother s sons, and they have different
interests in this uncle returning home. Everyone in the room is listening intently to the marine,
with the exception of the oldest boy. He is wearing the sweater, standing next to his dad, and is
listening, but his body language and clothing tell me he has no interest in following in his
footsteps. This young boy has dreams of going to college, getting out of that town, and avoiding
the military if at all possible. The other young boy in the painting is just the opposite, he is
engaged and hanging on every word spoken in the room. I would suspect their dad would be
supportive of either way the boys wanted to go, as he is proud of his brother but wouldn t want to

King s Gothic Naturalism
Naturalist writers of the early 20th century convey the notion that persons are fated to whatever
station in life their biological heredity and social environment prepare them for. Those who profess
to be proponents of the naturalist perspective see literature as a means to understand the nature of
man. Since the naturalist found in scientific discovery only a confirmation of humankind s
helplessness in the face of indifferent and inscrutable forces, their writings usually generate an
uninspiring idea of humanity s frailty (Strengell 11 12). While the deterministic worldview is
logical, it is difficult for many to resonate with powerless and doomed characters. Thus, the only
way for the naturalistic frame of mind to reach a wider... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jack is a man who struggles to control his temper, especially when under the influence. Growing
up with an abusive father, Jack had taken his lumps when the old man was drunk, which was a
lot of the time, (King 229). That is how his father dealt with all his children. When Jack was
seven years old, he was spanked by a neighbor lady for playing with matches, and he threw a rock
at passing car in anger (King 160). Jack s father witnessed his behavior and punished him,
physically and severely. Having learned that Jack responds to violence irrationally, one is not
surprised when Jack subsequently kicks a dog into the gutter. Upon getting insight into Jack s past,
one should immediately assume that Jack is predestined to succumb to brutish behavior because he
either learned this by watching his father give his children their medicine or inherited it like a
physical trait.
King highlights the extent to which heredity affects Jack when he notes that Jack s father s fate
resembles that of the main character in naturalist author Frank Norris novel, McTeague: A Story of
San Francisco (1977). McTeague is completely deterministic the epitome of naturalistic characters.
McTeague s father was an alcoholic brute, so when McTeague drinks and acts violently, there is no
question as to why he acts in that manner. According to Norris, heredity is more than a pattern of
learned behavior: it is something

Northwestern Men s Swimming Organizational Structure
Northwestern Men s Swimming as a Rational Organization
Rational Organizations Theory is an idea that has been motivated by social theorist Max Weber who
explains that traditionally, organizations were structured in a way that favored traditionalism,
where relationships, values, and other political agendas explained the framework for which an
organization was constructed and that over the course of time, this organizational structure will
continue to move towards a more modern platform promoting rational behavior, rational decision
making, and a rational culture. Rational organizations use formal structures to designate people and
positions of authority to specific tasks in order to improve predictability and calculability. Although
the behavioral characteristics of rational organizations are typically demonstrated in academia by
analyzing the structure and delegation of tasks within organizations like financial firms, small
businesses, and professional sports franchises, a space that is often overlooked is ... Show more

It is important to recognize that the bureaucratic structure of Northwestern Men s Swimming is
indicative of its rationality. There are delegated roles designed to allow different departments to
operate within their respective sphere of competences, which theoretically should translate to a
lubricated, rational organization. However, the idea of over rationalization and the iron cage of
rationality is not something that should be overlooked here. Weekly meetings with psychologists,
constant check ups with trainers, and the lack of an off season are all things that, when viewed
through the lens of rational decision maker, are things that should better the program in its entirety.
However, there comes a point when the returns to these investments begin to decrease, as over
rationalization may actually become irrational, and inhibit

Animal Vs Asian Elephants
Asian elephants are a big mammal but let me tell you more about them and what makes them
different from the other elephants. Asian elephants live in Nepal, India and Southeast Asia scrub
forests and rainforests. Asian elephants have been around for over 55 million years elephants are
very successful animals they found many different fossils and they have said over 300 species
have walked the earth over a long period. Elephants eat roots, grasses, fruit, and bark. An adult
elephantcan consume up to 300 pounds of food in a single day. Elephants form deep family
bonds and live in tight matriarchal family groups of related females called a herd. When a calf is
born, it is raised and protected by the whole matriarchal herd. Female elephants live in a herd.
Male elephants have very different social needs, males are driven out of the family group as they
approach sexual maturity, males spend as much as 95% of their lives alone. When it comes to
babies getting attacked by predators, the whole herd pitches in.
After five years of rearing the young elephants, the mother gives birth to a new infant weaning the
now adolescent calf at the same time. The subspecies of the elephants are African and Asian. In
Africa there is two different species the African bush elephant, and the African forest elephant. In
Asia they just have the Asian elephant. In the early times of 2000 b.c. elephants because of the size
they were they helped building. Many experts believe that the mammoth which is

The Golden Princess Persuasive Speech
As the princess waves her hand slightly to the right, signaling that the young man should choose
the right door, the man starts to cautiously make his way towards it. Just before he could grab the
silver lever, he thinks to himself, What if the princess knew I was going to pick the right door
leading me to the lady, instead of leading me to the ferocious maneating tiger? Why would she want
me to be with another woman whom she thinks is dire? I cannot go through with this barbaric
decision. In one instant, the young man turns swiftly to look back at the Princess, who is staring at
him with fear and softly mouthing to him, Choose the right door. He disregards her and turns to
the left door, which is latched by an enormous silver lever and he opens it with ease. While the
young man tries to see through the blackness, the princess quietly gets up from her seat and sneaks
out of the arena.
The crowd gasps and cheers as the young man and the beating red tiger s eyes meet. The man s
palms start sweating as the the orange and black beast slowly backs him into the door of from
which he entered. Looking above him, he sees that the crowd as well as the king, are smiling and
laughing at him as if it was amusing, but the princess is nowhere in sight. As the young man starts
to scan the crowd for the princess, his thoughts are broken by an enormous bang! Just as the young
man backs into the corner of the opposite end of where he and the tiger met, the princess swings

acquisitions he has made. Even though people doubted Ellison could build such a large
company by buying other companies, he has made Oracle the largest provider of corporate
software in the world (Nelson amp; Quick, 2013). The CEO of Oracle has a strong ability to
exercise his power and influence in the form of hostile takeovers. A good example of this would
be his actions towards the forced resignation of Hewlett Packards CEO Mark Hurd. This
happened after an investigation was launched involving allegations of sexual harassment. Larry
Ellison quickly blamed the board of trustees at Hewlett Packard for the forced resignation, then
he instantly hired Hurd at Oracle (Nelson amp; Quick, 2013). The new CEO of Hewlett Packard
became the next target for Ellison, he accused the CEO of overseeing intellectual property theft at
his previous job. The CEO of Hewlett Packard fought back against Ellison and stated that the
allegations were complete hogwash and untrue (Nelson amp; Quick, 2013). Ellison then went back
and questioned Hewlett Packards board of trustees and CEO all together about their competence,
intelligence, and integrity. Even though Ellison lashed out at them, he made sure not to ever
criticize Hewlett Packard itself. In 2010, Oracle had achieved a new world record for database

James K. Polk s Achievements
Throughout the course of American history, many influential figures have greatly impacted
America. Their contributions to society has changed America for the better or worse, and also
impact our views on society today. These people may include famous inventors, scientists, or even
our previous presidents. An example of an influential figure who has made numerous
accomplishments that benefitted America is the former president, James K. Polk. Polk lived from
the year 1795 to 1849, and was the eleventh President of the United States, who served for one
term. Before becoming the president, Polk was known in politics as the governor of Tennessee.

The point of the protective tariffs was that the Northern states would manufacture their own
products to avoid benefitting foreign countries. This was a disadvantage for the South as they
had no benefits from it. Polk had appointed his Secretary of the Treasure, Robert J. Walker, to
lower the tariff rates of products to a standard rate, this was known as the Walker Tariff. It
lowered the taxes on items that were a necessity, and increased for luxury items. The political
effects of the Walker Tariff was political conflict between the North and the South. The North was
against such a law because it provided less profit from the South. The South benefitted in a way
that they did not have to pay too much on exports of foreign countries. This benefitted the United
States economically because it encouraged the South to trade and export their extra crops to
countries abroad. As a result, relations among America and Britain had improved because the
Walker Tariff encouraged free trade between them. It also allowed Britain to import the grains

William Shakespeare s Beowulf Essay
Tuttle 1
Beowulf Unfit to be King of the Geats For 1000 years we have been reading of the adventures of
Beowulf, and his story was told for hundreds of years before. The tale is full of trials,
tribulations, adventure, great loss, great victory, and wonderful battles. But, what do we make of
it? Is it a tale told to illustrate the virtues of the epic hero himself, or is it a cautionary tale, told to
warn the readers of the dangers of allowing unqualified men (or women) to ascend to a position of
leadership and the inevitable results of such an event?
The author of Beowulf takes great care to describe the hero in detail, and we, as readers, learn about
his abundant courage and strength. We are taken on a tour through his early struggles, his successes
against the great monster Grendel and Grendel s mother, and his ultimate demise during his battle
with a dragon. But one needs to analyze the unstated theme in order to fully appreciate the effect
that Beowulf has had on readers for generations. Stanley Greenfield, in his article Beowulf and
Epic Tragedy writes that, in the end, For all of Beowulf s efforts, he is reaped only with useless
gold, for a nation soon to perish (104). This is representative of the core issue at hand in this epic.
Beowulf is unfit to be a great king, despite his physical prowess. Because of his early and
continuing history of foolishly taking unnecessary risks, his excessive pride and lack of humility,
the diminishing quality of his personal

The Importance Of Public Surveillance
With the increase in public surveillance by governments and big coperations, there has grown a
need to combat it and its effects on society today. It s mainly a question of privacy to everyone,
can we really trust him, so what s Public surveillance and automated face recognition? Public
Surveillance is the monitoring of conduct, exercises, or other changing data to influence, oversee,
coordinate or protect individuals. This can incorporate the use of Closed Circuit Television
(CCTV) or capturing of electronically transmitted data, for example, through phone calls. Besides
that, it s no longer a dusk to dawn activity but 24/7. Automated Face Recognition can be best
described as the use of specialised software to identify individuals in digital images or videos
using sophisticated algorithms that are linked to databases. This kind of software is able to
compare several facial features of a person and uniquely identify them amongst a million others
accurately.
In 2013, the act of public surveillance and automated face recognition by world governments was
raised after Edward Snowden exposed the global surveillance documents. Revealing in view of
archives Snowden spilled to different media outlets set off an open deliberation about common
freedoms and the privilege to security in this Digital Age. So how is it carried out. As stated above
surveillance is mainly carried out by governments with the help of big coperations and security
organisations like the police. In a study

Essay The Ethics of Sonography and Gendercide
The constantly growing field of medical technology has raised many questions especially pertaining
to ethics. The mapping of the human genome, cloning technologies, stem cell research, and of
course reproductive technology has caused some very real dilemmas over the role of the human
decision in the creation and orientation of new life. Humans are able to accomplish amazing things
in science, but at what cost? The ubiquitous nature of reproductive technology has caused a new
discipline of reproductive ethics. One such dilemma is that of selective abortiondue to sex
preference. In this paper I will discuss the ethics of gendercide and sonography s affect on this
practice

These technologies changed everything. Previously, parents would resort to infanticide to be sure
they could have a boy. Now parents who wanted a son, but balked at killing baby daughters were
able to choose abortion instead. Even today, there are no proven practices that allow gender
detection during the first trimester, and ultrasound is fairly unreliable until approximately the 20th
week of pregnancy. Consequently, sex selection often requires late term abortion of a fetus.
This practice not only affects the family but the society as a whole. It has caused an increase in
the imbalances between sex ratios. Boys are slightly more likely to die in infancy than girls. To
compensate, more boys are born than girls so there will be equal numbers of young men and
women at puberty. In all societies that record births, between 103 and 106 boys are normally
born for every 100 girls. The ratio has been so stable over generations that it appears to be the
usual order of things. That order has changed drastically in the last 25 years. According to research
the ratio today is 123 boys per 100 girls. These rates are not possible without human intervention.
There are many reasons as to why this practice has become so popular in many countries around
the world. It is said that by having a one child policy, China has increased the rate of abortion of
female fetuses. As most Chinese families are given incentives to have only one child, and would

  • 2. Science Fair Projects At Woodstock Middle School And I Am... Research Paper Marissa Chudy Several students are doing Science Fair projects at Woodstock Middle School and I am one of the seventh grade students. The topic I shall be doing is on how bridge structure affects the weight bearing capacity. I chose this specific topic to guide bridge builders in the right direction on what bridge is safest for public use. The key topics I plan to research on include the following: Beam, Warren Truss, suspension, cable stayed, and arch bridges. I shall use the scientific method to guide me through this process. Like every other science project, mine starts with a question. How does bridge structure affect the weight bearing capacity? is the question. If I change the bridge structure on the most popular bridges, then those specific bridges will be capable of holding longer and hold larger amounts of weight. is the hypothesis. The three types of variables used are independent, dependent, and control variables. These variables include the location of the bridge, the bucket, the amount of water, the supplies, and the climate I experiment in. There are multiple items and steps to fully complete the experiment. My materials include the following: Graph paper, 200 regular Popsicle sticks, wire cutters, wood glue, 100 cotton swabs, 72 medium and small binder clips, one half inch width clear tape, masking tape, gram balance, loading block ... • 4. The Magnetic Field Of Magnets Abstract Summary Magnets have a magnetic field surrounding them and these fields is the magnetism force that the magnet poses of an object. On a large scale, the Earth is a magnet which also has a magnetic field. Magnets also has North and South poles which can flip. The amount of magnetic material attracted to the magnet, allows the magnet s poles to flip. Flipping on the earth s magnet could cause destruction on the earth. The magnetic field protects earth from solar radiation. Purpose of the Experiment: The purpose of this experiment is to discover if a magnet physically turns or if the magnetic field weakens to allow the North and South poles to flip. Methods: Lay the bar magnet on a flat surface so that it is facing a particular direction other than North. This allows to see if the magnet physically towards the North. Place some nuts and bolts on the magnet (same amount throughout the experiment) Tip magnet upside down and observe how many nuts and bolts fall off of the magnet. Record observations. Repeat the above steps several times, adding the same amount of nuts and bolts at the same distance as used in the beginning of the experiment. Every time that the experiment is repeated, observe and record the amount of falling nuts and bolts Conclusion: The hypothesis was correct but is was also wrong because the magnetic field did weaken but the magnet also physically turned. This shows that for magnetic poles to flip, the magnetic field needs to weaken ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Legacy Of The Jim Crow Laws The years leading up to the 1960 s were ones full of worldly and civil unrest. Wars raged, blood spilled, and many lives were lost. However, these wars weren t always fought across continents and countries. Some were fought internally, without involving assault rifles or trenches. The war I m speaking did involve two sides, but not Axis and Union. This war dealt with racial segregation and hatred among races . This movement sprouted all the way from the roots of slavery and the oppression of those enslaved. Nearly a hundred years after the end of slavery a clash between races was still very prevalent in the United States. Segregation was in full effect and blacks everywhere were being treated beyond unfairly. Blacks and even some others,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this movement would not come without its fair share of violence and hatred. Plenty of resistance came from whites who believed their race was superior. The NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) did the best they could in order to fight against this racism, starting their anti lynching campaign in the 1930 s. While other organizations attempted to start campaigns like this as well, the NAACP proved to be the most influential organization during the civil rights movement (Janken, n.d.). Perhaps the most detrimental organization towards this movement was one known as the Ku Klux Klan, also known as the KKK. The KKK were, and still are huge advocates of white supremacy and fought against more than just the blacks. They were/still are known to be hateful towards Jews, Catholics, immigrants, and many more (History.com, 2009). The KKK was responsible for countless crimes during this era. Blacks were lynched, houses were burned to the ground, and countless black families were torn apart. The KKK spread across and occupied nearly every southern states in the United States in the years before the Civil Rights Act of 1964. However, despite all of this adversity, many blacks continued to protest and fight one way or another. This was the beginning of the monumental protests led by two of the most important and influential figures of the civil rights ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America The protection of virtue, I submit, requires an understanding of interstitial spaces spaces where formalist adherence to rules and laws does not suffice to adequately promote virtue. Recognition of these spaces spawned agent morality and Aristotle s practical wisdom. Fascination with these spaces fueled Alexis de Tocquevilles inquiry into American religious, familial and political mores in Democracy in America. Though America s formal, codified laws of the 1830s granted dangerous freedom to the individual, Americans managed to navigate interstitial spaces with assiduous virtue. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Given the arguments in my second seminar paper on Socratic citizenship, the comparison between Plato s Guardians and Aristotle s men of practical wisdom seems to be a reasonable one. Both Guardians and men of practical wisdom operate relatively freely in a moral system of substantive justice, with little reference to fixed principles. Plato s discussion of democracy in the Republic and of obedience in the Crito, however, makes clear that he did not believe regular individuals could operate virtuously in interstitial spaces between fixed rules and principles. Plato feared a democratic expansion of liberty which would allow each citizen to pursue a way of life to suit himself, as this would unleash a torrent of subjectivism and a bastardization of virtue. As such, his ideal Republic employed absolute rule of the Guardians, noble lies and temperance (read disinterest in political participation ) to close the interstitial spaces which would allow the clumsy subjectivism of the lower classes to operate. Emancipated from the rule of the Guardians, the democratic man cannot control his desires and sows the seeds of tyranny. Plato seems convinced that the democratic expansion of interstitial spaces could only mean extinguishing virtue. Pericles Athens provides a compelling counter example to Plato s pessimism about democracy. Pericles prescribes a mixture of individual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Shooting An Elephant By George Orwell Shooting an Elephant The short story Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell describes Orwell s experience as a police officer of a town in the British colony of Burma. George Orwell, a military occupier in the Burmese land is much hated by the civilians. The hatred he receives from the locals makes him despise the British Empires mistreatment on the Burmese people. However, he also resents the locals in the village for revolting against him, for he is only a worker of the British Empire. Shooting an Elephant by George Orwelldiscusses the author s views and experience on peer pressure through the structure, quality, and applicability of the information shared. The incident that took place was when a domesticated elephant escaped from its chains, and was causing harm to the villagers and their property. The mahout a caretaker of the elephant went searching towards a different route which happened to be 12 hours away; the only solution in stopping this berserk elephant was by shooting it. They are changing the way people interact, make and break friendships, gossip and communicate. This essay will explore the extent to which social networking has re defined social relationships and consider whether or not the impact of social networking is generationally specific. Online social networking could be defined in many ways depending on which book, article or journal you are reading. Brown s research tells us that the internet has drastically re shaped our individual social lives over the distance of just a couple of decades, luring us into a virtual world where traditional interactions such as living, loving, belonging and separating require new protocols (Brown, A, 2011 p 29). For many in the future, the path followed when falling in love may be via an online website. Dating sites, which we have once thought of as an uncool way to meet and connect with new people, have grown in popularity. They may perhaps be seen to have taken on the role that was once filled by family and friends. Facilitating and managing relationships online is projected to become close to a billion dollar industry in the United States in 2011 , (Brown, A, 2011 p30). Changes in online social relationships have increased rapidly, particularly over the past 30 years. Generational differences increase as the pace of social change increase , Shapiro said, (Salman, J, 2009). Several different generations, for example the baby boomer generation, generation Y and generation X, have embraced online social networking. As of 2009, 73% of teenagers between the ages of 12 17 use online networking sites. This is an increase from 58% in 2007. Apple popularized its shuffle feature in 2004 with the slogan Life is Random. However, Levy finds this difficult to believe. He consistently gets songs by Steely Dan and nothing by Aretha Franklin, despite the supposed randomized shuffling feature. Yet, Apple maintains that its shuffling process is randomized. Compare And Contrast The Renaissance Art And Paintings When looking at the paintings that were created throughout the Renaissance art period, there are multiple paintings that depict religious stories. The best of these paintings has Jesus depicted within them. The majority of these paintings were created by those who had a large impact on the art world today. One of the most famous paintings that reveals religion within it is The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci, which is similarly to The Wedding at Cana by Paolo Veronese. When analyzing these two pieces of artwork, they are often confused for the other due to the fact that they are both based on biblical stories as well as how they are organized. There have been multiple discussions about which painting has more impact based on their physical effect. Based on the color and imagery depicted in the painting, The Wedding at Cana, it is one of the most influential and inspiring stories ever told in a religious painting. The painting, The Wedding at Cana, was created in the year 1563 which was a mixed time between two art periods. This was during the end of the Renaissance art period and right in the middle of the Mannerism art period. The Renaissance was the most famous art period in which some of the most influential pieces of work were created. Large increases in widebody aircraft gates can be observed for both the domestic gate totals and international gate totals. This seems to correlate with the recent trends in widebody aircraft efficiency increases and respectively the future orders of such aircraft as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Airbus A350XWB. These predicted increases in demand have highlighted a situation where in the future, capacity will likely not be able to keep up with the demand and ATL will become deficient at maintaining throughput. The city that is filled with impurity and attachments could be the cause of the natural disasters that include chaos and death, which a simple life renouncing in nature could avoid (Theme 9 Lecture 3, Mar.19). Furthermore, the population s suffering can symbolize the city as a whole that does not allow for one to discover one s buddha nature, hidden within each of us (Theme 9 Lecture 3, Mar.19). [SAG_Report_ _Car_Sharing] Car Sharing is the term used throughout most of the world to refer to mobility services. It is a group of people that use one car in every single day to terminate their business daily. Car Sharing refers to automobile rental services intended to substitute for private vehicle ownership, with vehicles located in neighborhoods, are rented by the hour, and easy to check in and out. Carsharing ranges from small informal cooperatives to sophisticated businesses with many vehicles. The current transportation market offers consumers many options for purchasing an automobile, but fewer practical options for using a vehicle occasionally. This contributes to several problems: It results in inefficient use of valuable assets. Many private automobiles are used only a few hours per week. These low annual mileage vehicles have high costs per vehicle mile. It increases vehicle use. Because cars are expensive to own but cheap to drive, owners have the incentive to maximize their use. This increases external costs such as traffic congestion, facility costs, accidents and environmental impacts. Some low income households cannot afford to drive at all, or they spend an excessive portion of their budgets own vehicles they only need occasionally. This is a financial burden and contributes to problems such as uninsured driving. 2.Car Sharing with fewer pollutants and use less fuel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This study found that reaction times and accuracy were not significantly different between those highly susceptible to hypnosis and those not susceptible, however, both groups of participants had significantly slower reaction times when hypnotized. • 26. Summary Of Upton Sinclair s The Jungle Upon reading Upton Sinclair s book The Jungle, it can easily be seen that there were numerous injustices occurring within the early 1900s Chicago government. He wrote the book in 1906 after spending six months gathering research on the lives of poor, low class, immigrant families. With this information, he published his first book, The Jungle, through which he displays the hardships a immigrant family faces when they move to America. He chose the meat packing industryin the city of Chicago as his backdrop for this story, and while the names of the characters are fictional, most of the story is based on his real observations. He originally wrote the book trying to set forth the breaking of human hearts by a system which exploits the labor of men and women for profit, but people took it the wrong way, and Sinclair explained this misinterpretation when he says I aimed at the public s heart, and by accident I hit it in the stomach. (NCBI) By this, he means that he wanted the American people to see the plight of the immigrants but instead the general public was more upset by the unsanitary condition of the meat they were ingesting. While Sinclair may not have achieved his original goal, his book did in fact have a significant impact; an impact that still effects the American people of today. It led to the creation of the Pure Food and Drugs Act of 1906 which is the predecessor to the modern day FDA (Young 231) (US Food). The Jungle shows the corruption in the Chicago government through the main character Jurgis and his trial, the raping of his wife Ona, and the unsanitary conditions in the meat factories where he worked. Sinclair shows the corruption in the Chicago government through the raping of Ona. Ona is the teenage wife of Jurgis, and just a few months after their wedding she is raped by her own boss. When Jurgis demands a reason for why she was gone for an entire night, she says He told me he would have me turned off. He told me he would we would all of us lose our places. We could never get anything to do here again. Family is a big part of one s life and important one at that and Didion uses it as the center of her work. The work itself is about re defining what home truly is. Home to many people is where you live but to Didion it was where her family was. The story starts out as an innocent retelling of how it is her daughter s first birthday and how she is celebrating it with her family down in Central Valley California. Yet as the essay goes on it starts to become a blast to the past into Didion s childhood. She describes the family she has made and the family she came from and how there is a distinct difference... This allows her to emphasize the word paralyzed, which aptly describes how Didion feels when considering both of her home lives (troykelleher3). This quote gives off the idea that she is scared to draw her attention to the past and take it apart, but she barely now gained the backbone to face her past. Dust is constantly talked about in the essay probably suggesting she can t move on in her life. When dust starts to collect it usually means someone doesn t have the time to clean it up or they don t care. Didion s inability to clean up one drawer just shows that she is struggling. Didion s home doesn t have the feeling of safety because of this quote I come to dread my husband s evening call...suggests uneasily that I get out and drive to San Francisco or Berkeley (Didion 141). This gives the perception that she is most likely cold inside because she doesn t have somewhere she feels absolutely comfortable. The work On Going Home is Didion s point of view of what home ultimately is by using her own personal experiences. The essay describes her struggle to connect her current home life with her prior home life, which are vastly different (troykelleher3). She starts off her essay by stating this By home I do not mean the house in Los Angles where my husband and I and the baby live, but the place where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It will be the purpose of this paper to argue that the raison d etre of Matthew s Christology is to portray Jesus as entirely compatible if not with the Judaism of his day then with ancient Judaic tradition, namely the Old Testament. Consequently, we see in Matthew s depiction of Jesus a fundamental tenet of Israel s theological history personified. Jesus is, as the Messianic Servant, shown to be the fulfilment of further Isaianic prophecy, that of the suffering Servant. Throughout Matthew s gospel there are six direct allusions to Isaiah 53 indicating a definite link and identification by Matthew with this Israelite and Messianic hope. Further, Farmer suggests that direct allusions notwithstanding in 20:20 28 and especially 26:26 30 Isaiah 53 s redemptive hope is supposed to be fulfilled through Jesus description of the outcome of his crucifixion. Isaianic prophecy aside it is also clear that Matthew above the other three evangelists presents Jesus as the fulfilment of the law, a new Moses. The structure of the book into five sections is intended to help the Jewish readers identify Jesus as an antecedent of Moses. Jesus is according to some scholars a type of Moses bringing about a new exodus and a new Israel. More explicitly however, Matthew portrays Jesus as the only man to have fulfilled the law in its entirety as well as the messianic fulfilment of Old Testament prophecy through the many formula quotations (3:15; 5:17 48;12:17 21; 13:35; 21:5, 16, 42; 22:44; 23:39; 26:31; 27:9, 35, 46). Comparing the Supernatural in William Shakespeare s Hamlet and Macbeth In the time of William Shakespeare there was a strong belief in the existence of the supernatural. Therefore, the supernatural is a recurring theme in many of Shakespeare s plays. In two such plays, Hamlet and Macbeth, the supernatural is an integral part of the structure of the plot. It provides a catalyst for action, an insight into character, and an augmentation of the impact of many key scenes. The supernatural appears to the audience in many varied forms. He now listens to it, Speak to her, Hamlet (III.iv.130). The supernatural is the guiding force behind Hamlet. The ghost asks Hamlet to seek revenge for the King s death and Hamlet is thus propelled to set into action a series of events that ends in his own death. The supernatural occurs four times during the course of Macbeth. It occurs in all the appearances of the witches, in the appearance of Banquo s ghost, in the apparitions with their prophecies, and in the air drawn dagger that guides Macbeth towards his victim. Of the supernatural phenomenon evident in Macbeth the witches are perhaps the most important. The witches represent Macbeth s evil ambitions. King s Gothic Naturalism Naturalist writers of the early 20th century convey the notion that persons are fated to whatever station in life their biological heredity and social environment prepare them for. Those who profess to be proponents of the naturalist perspective see literature as a means to understand the nature of man. Since the naturalist found in scientific discovery only a confirmation of humankind s helplessness in the face of indifferent and inscrutable forces, their writings usually generate an uninspiring idea of humanity s frailty (Strengell 11 12). The point of the protective tariffs was that the Northern states would manufacture their own products to avoid benefitting foreign countries. This was a disadvantage for the South as they had no benefits from it. Polk had appointed his Secretary of the Treasure, Robert J. Walker, to lower the tariff rates of products to a standard rate, this was known as the Walker Tariff. It lowered the taxes on items that were a necessity, and increased for luxury items. The political effects of the Walker Tariff was political conflict between the North and the South. The North was against such a law because it provided less profit from the South. The South benefitted in a way that they did not have to pay too much on exports of foreign countries. This benefitted the United States economically because it encouraged the South to trade and export their extra crops to countries abroad. As a result, relations among America and Britain had improved because the Walker Tariff encouraged free trade between them. It also allowed Britain to import the grains produced in ... • 51. William Shakespeare s Beowulf Essay Tuttle 1 Beowulf Unfit to be King of the Geats For 1000 years we have been reading of the adventures of Beowulf, and his story was told for hundreds of years before. The tale is full of trials, tribulations, adventure, great loss, great victory, and wonderful battles. But, what do we make of it? Is it a tale told to illustrate the virtues of the epic hero himself, or is it a cautionary tale, told to warn the readers of the dangers of allowing unqualified men (or women) to ascend to a position of leadership and the inevitable results of such an event? The author of Beowulf takes great care to describe the hero in detail, and we, as readers, learn about his abundant courage and strength. We are taken on a tour through his early struggles, his successes against the great monster Grendel and Grendel s mother, and his ultimate demise during his battle with a dragon. But one needs to analyze the unstated theme in order to fully appreciate the effect that Beowulf has had on readers for generations. Stanley Greenfield, in his article Beowulf and Epic Tragedy writes that, in the end, For all of Beowulf s efforts, he is reaped only with useless gold, for a nation soon to perish (104). This is representative of the core issue at hand in this epic. Beowulf is unfit to be a great king, despite his physical prowess. Because of his early and continuing history of foolishly taking unnecessary risks, his excessive pride and lack of humility, the diminishing quality of his personal ... • 53. Essay The Ethics of Sonography and Gendercide The constantly growing field of medical technology has raised many questions especially pertaining to ethics. The mapping of the human genome, cloning technologies, stem cell research, and of course reproductive technology has caused some very real dilemmas over the role of the human decision in the creation and orientation of new life. Humans are able to accomplish amazing things in science, but at what cost? The ubiquitous nature of reproductive technology has caused a new discipline of reproductive ethics. One such dilemma is that of selective abortiondue to sex preference. In this paper I will discuss the ethics of gendercide and sonography s affect on this practice Sex selective abortion is the practice of terminating a pregnancy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These technologies changed everything. Previously, parents would resort to infanticide to be sure they could have a boy. Now parents who wanted a son, but balked at killing baby daughters were able to choose abortion instead. Even today, there are no proven practices that allow gender detection during the first trimester, and ultrasound is fairly unreliable until approximately the 20th week of pregnancy. Consequently, sex selection often requires late term abortion of a fetus. This practice not only affects the family but the society as a whole. It has caused an increase in the imbalances between sex ratios. Boys are slightly more likely to die in infancy than girls. To compensate, more boys are born than girls so there will be equal numbers of young men and women at puberty. In all societies that record births, between 103 and 106 boys are normally born for every 100 girls. The ratio has been so stable over generations that it appears to be the usual order of things. That order has changed drastically in the last 25 years. According to research the ratio today is 123 boys per 100 girls. These rates are not possible without human intervention. There are many reasons as to why this practice has become so popular in many countries around the world. It is said that by having a one child policy, China has increased the rate of abortion of female fetuses. As most Chinese families are given incentives to have only one child, and would ...
