The Invention Of The World Wide Web
The present society of today embodies a distinct shape, organization, role, and feel from the societies
of a millennium ago, a century ago, or even a decade ago. These metamorphoses are, in part, caused
by the multiple technological revolutions that our society has experienced throughout its history. Each
time a technological revolution occurs when a novel technology is introduced to build upon or succeed
an older one the entire society (and the individuals that comprise it) changes. However, as Marshall
McLuhan suggested within the printed pages of Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man, the
medium is the message (McLuhan 1964). In other words, these shifts are not as much the direct result
of the invention s content or it s use, as they are the outcomes of effects that are intrinsic within the
technology itself. Although McLuhan published this work in 1964, almost thirty years before the
invention of the World Wide Web, this adage still holds true for the Internet today.
Technologies, such as the Internet, should not be viewed, using the instrumentalist perspective, as
inherently neutral tools that are valuable only for their ends, intended purposes, or practical benefits
(Ellul, Wilkinson, and Merton 1964, Carr 2010, 45). Rather, the means themselves, or what McLuhan
would consider the medium, should also be recognized as carrying messages that hold powerful,
unintended consequences for society (Ellul, Wilkinson, and Merton 1964, McLuhan 1964). In

Three Fifths Compromise Essay
There are a number of compromises that can be found in the U.S constitution, all having had a major
role in shaping what we all know today as the United States of America. With so many important
compromises it is hard to chose just one. That being said, the compromise which I intend to discuss is
the three fifths compromise. This compromise is important in our history and is a pretty controversial
matter.Three fifths compromise was important for both the northern and southern states. The main
question that was brought up for this subject was if slaves should be counted in census to determine
the number of congressional delegates a state should recieve. What was the Three Fifths Compromise?
It was an agreement between the north and the south ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As previously stated, the clause provides that representation in Congress will be based on the whole
number of free persons and three fifths of all other persons (Article 1 section 2 clause 3) which
referred to the slaves. According to Erik M. Jensen, professor of law, the popular misunderstanding in
regards to this provision is that it did not declare that African American slaves were three fifths of a
person but rather the provision was declaring that the slave states would get extra representation in
Congress for their slaves, even though those states treated slaves only as property. Ultimately, this
provision was not really about race but rather about status and political power for the states.
Something that some might not know is that free blacks were not counted in the same way as slaves
were. They were counted in the same way as all white men. (The Root) The reason for this is because
the clause did not say that a slave was three fifth of a person also, the clause had nothing that involved
free blacks. Instead, the clause gave us a mathematical formula for the allocation of representatives in
congress that factored in slave population. Although slaves could not vote, free blacks could vote in
some states. Long story short, the cause did not provide a voice for the slaves but rather this was about
the distribution of political power in the

arrives at Shawshank Prison, Red bets that he will be the first one to collapse that night. Apparently,

begins to be close with Andy. In jail, people are filled with negative emotions and tons of difficulties.
Under this cruel circumstances (What circumstances?), Andy and Red are always together and share
with each other about all of their lives, which help them develop their precious friendship. At the end
of the film, they are still the best friend of each other. Their shared belief and experience tight them

Shawshank Prison, most of the prisoners suffer from institutional syndrome which refers to deficits or
disabilities in social and life skills, which develop after a person has spent a long period living in
mental hospitals, prisons, or other remote institutions. (Williams, 1994) This disorder is common to be
found with people who live in institutions over a long period of time. Therefore, the sufferers are
unable to handle themselves in the world outside the institutions. They would often feel depressed.

Presenting symptom:
A 28 year old Caucasian female patient is presenting with a new breast lump found on self
examination at home. The patient describes this breast lump located in the left upper quadrant of her
breast and states that it is approximately the size of a pea and is hard.
The physical examination would include a thorough breast examination. The patient should be
covered for decency and exposing one breast at a time should be done. Breasts are divided into four
quadrants based on horizontal and vertical lines crossing at the nipple (Bickley, 2013). Palpation of
lymph nodes in the lateral, central, subscapular, pectoral, supraclavicular and infraclavicular areas

Patients may be more apt to take breast cancer seriously and do monthly examinations knowing that
they have a BRCA mutation. This may help to save lives and prevent future health declines associated
with breast cancer. There are also many cultural considerations with breast cancer. For example,
Latinas are usually diagnosed with breast cancer in advanced stages (Kingsley, 2010). This may be
because it can be taboo to talk about cancers or perhaps those born to poor economic status do not
have access to adequate health care screenings. However, Latinas have a lower incidence of breast
cancer compared to Caucasians (Kingsley, 2010). No matter the race, age, ethnicity, culture or religion

Essay on The Physics of Motorcycle Roadracing
Despite what some people may think, motorcycle roadracing is not only a highly strenuous sport, but
there is much more involved than just twisting the throttle and turning the handlebars. There are a
number of powerful forces working on the bike and the rider. There is, of course, the downward pull
of gravity, friction between the tires and the track, and centrifugal force which acts to the outside of
the turn. The key to cornering at high speeds is to perfect the lean angle of the motorcycle so that the
force of gravity reaches equilibrium with the centrifugal force attempting to stand the bike back up. If
the bike is leaned to far, it falls over. If it is not leaned far enough, centrifugal force pulls it back up
and the turn is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the rider would push on the left handlebar (turning the bars to the right) in order to make
a left turn. This may seem like a foreign concept at first, but it makes sense in the context of
gyroscopic motion. Consider a bicycle wheel:
The effects of gyroscopic precession can be felt when the wheel is held by the axle in the position
shown, spun, and then turned sharply to the left or right. If the wheel is turned to the left, the top will
twist to the right, pushing the bottom to the left. The same applies to a motorcycle when the wheels
are spinning very quickly and the machine is turned. Turning the handlebars to the left would force the
top of the wheel to move to the right, thus leaning the motorcycle in the opposite direction that the
wheel was turned.
The equation for this motion of the wheel is
T=IWv
where T is the torque, I is the moment of inertia, v is the wheel speed, and W is the angular velocity of
the turn. This equation relies on the conservation of the wheel s angular momentum.(Sport Rider
2002)
Steering Method #2: Body Steering
The concept of body steering relies on the rider s shifts in weight and pressure application on various
parts of the motorcycle to turn it. Theoretically, one could turn a bike without ever touching the
handlebars simply by shifting body weight. For example, to turn the bike to the left, the rider could

With the premier of The Jazz Singer, the first talkie, Monumental Pictures must uproot a current film
in production and make the transition to synchronized sound film. It is through this background peek
at the world of Hollywood film production that Singin in the Rain provides a reliable take on the

The best example of this from Singin in the Rain comes from the shot where the director of The
Dueling Cavalier is trying to get Lina Lamont to talk into the microphone. Viewers are able to see the
mechanics of placing microphones and the inconvenience of having cords running to the sound booth.
The microphones were hidden in plain view and upon realizing that sound was not being picked up,
the sound engineers had to find ways to reposition them. Lina has to have her microphone sewn into
two different places on her dress in order to get the best sound recording possible. Charles O Brien
credits new technology brought about to improve synchronized sound with, ultimately rendering the
cinema less rather than more varied stylistically, in his book (O Brien 5). This shows that while
synchronized sound improved narration it was responsible for steering the film business towards an
industry characterized by a mass influx of synchronized sound films and the extinction of silent films.
From around 1927 to 1930 synchronized sound swept the

Intelligence Is An Important Factor
Intelligence can determines what classes you take, what jobs you get, your level of education, your
type of lifestyle, your future and etc.... Intelligence is an important factor in our lives but what exactly
is it? Intelligence has many different meanings due to different investigators having numerous
definitions of it. For example, in a 1921 conference, American psychologists Lewis M. Terman and
Edward L. Thorndike contrasted over the definition of intelligence, Terman believed that intelligence
was the ability to think abstractly while Thorndike alleged that intelligence was learning and the
ability to give good responses to questions (Sternberg, 2014). Overtime, psychologists have been able

These dispute first initiated in 1865 with an English scientist, Francis Galton who began studying the
correlation on hereditary and success (Behavioral Neuroscience Web Ring Macalester College).
Convinced, based on his evidence, that success and other abilities were mostly based on hereditary
factors, he deduced that intelligence must be bred and not trained (Wilderdom, 2005). He then
opposed those who believed in the environmental effects on intelligence (Behavioral Neuroscience
Web Ring Macalester College). For centuries, this debate had no clear conclusion but many theories
and hypothesis. Although both the nature and nurture side has find great amount of evidence, it is still
undecided which side has more effects in one s intelligence. First, the theory about how genes can
affect your intelligence can be tested thanks to the birth of monozygotic or identical twins born from
the same cell (Behavioral neuroscience Web Ring Macalester College). Because children share 50% of
their genes with each of their parents, this then becomes an interesting area of research because they
could compare monozygotic twins who share 100 percent of their genes. This is good because they
both obtained 50% of their parents genes plus they are identical twins so this gives a great window to
research. In

Analysis Of The House Holder By Ruth Prawer Jhabvala
The portrayal of socio economic structure of Indian society of 1950 s and early 1960 s gets amply
reflected in the early novels of Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, Most of the protagonists of her novels hail from
upper and middle classes and their interaction with the lower strata of society reveals the gap between
the rich and the poor, While her satire is directed against the materialistic attitudes of the middle class
in most of her novels. Jhabvala can not be blamed for totally ignoring the lower class. In her fourth
novel, The House Holder (1960), she has projected lower strata of society on an even bigger canvas.
With this novel she returns to the intra Indian context.
The main protagonist Prem, a Hindi teacher with a second class B.A., in Mr. Khanna s private college
in Delhi and the other representative of his class Sohanial confront against several social and familial
realities which are the consequence of Indian planning. The break up of the joint family and the
mashrooming of nuclear family have created some problems in Indian society and then there is need
for new adaptations and adjustments. This phenomenon as a feature of the new India comes in Ruth

but a resident of Turner Station in Dundalk, MD. Henrietta had mentioned to family that she had felt a

Due to the fact that Henrietta s cells were the first human cells grown in a lab that did not die after a

immortal . This was a major breakthrough in medical and biological research. One major breakthrough
was the development of a vaccine for polio. To test the vaccine the cells were quickly put into mass
production in the first ever cell production factory. Another enormous breakthrough was the successful
cloning of human cells in 1955. Demand for the HeLa cells grew quickly. Since they were put into
mass production, Henrietta s cells have been mailed to scientists around the globe from research into
cancer, AIDS, the effects of radiation and toxic substances, gene mapping, and countless other
scientific pursuits. (Smith, 2002, Wonder Woman: The Life, Death, and Life After Death of Henrietta
Lacks, Unwitting Heroine of Modern Medical Science .) HeLa cells have been used to test human
sensitivity to tape, glue, cosmetics, and many other products. Scientists have grown some 20 tons of
her cells, and there are almost 11,000 patents involving HeLa cells. (Batts, 2010) Neither Lacks nor
her family gave her physician permission to harvest the cells. At that same time, however, permission
was neither required nor usually sought. (Washington, 1994) In the early 1970 s, the family of

nineteenth and twentieth centuries. All of this contributed to how her life came to relate to the life of
Albert Einstein. In 1891 she decided to go to paris, this marked the beginning of her career in science.
Once in paris, she studied at the Sorbonne where she received her Licenciateships in physics and the
Mathematical sciences. Then in 1894 she met a professor by the name of Pierre Curie while searching
for larger lab space. Though Pierre didn t have a large laboratory, he was able to find some space for
her to work. It wasn t long before their mutual interest in science drew them together and they were

Comparing Marx s Views On Socioeconomic Status And The...
This paper is going to discuss the differences in classic theorist s views on socioeconomic status and
the level of education a person receives. To begin, let s say that the people who receive a higher level
of education tend to be higher in socioeconomic status and, therefore, the people who do not receive a
much education tend to be lower in status. Structural functionalist would say that the different levels
of education are to keep society balanced. People with less education tend to have mediocre or blue
collar jobs, while people with a higher education have more noteworthy jobs. As a society, we need
both types of people in order for society to fully function. If everyone was blessed with the
opportunity to get the highest levels of education, it would offset the equilibrium because no one
would want to do the simple yet necessary jobs. If no one did those, we would not have restaurants or
clean public restrooms. The roads would be terrible because there would be no construction workers to
maintain them. Currently, the people with a higher education depend on the less educated in order to
have the standard of living that they have now. The less educated people currently depend on the
higher educated people to require their services, whether it be serving them ... Show more content on

Reasons For Increasing The Illegal Downloading Of Music
There are many reasons for increasing the illegal downloading for music in the last years.
The technology development of computer and communication led to increase the illegal downloading
of digital multimedia (e.g. music). In general, there is no change in the behavior of buyers, but starting
of internet network and uprising of computerized systems, result in latest rise in piracy. The digital
revolution has been one of the most important causes in control of piracy. As the arrival of the digital
revolution, it has become not difficult to copy digital information without losing in its features. One
more significant cause has been the introduction of the Internet, a commercial Internet protocol that
has basically opened the front gate to low cost worldwide sharing. A third facilitator has been the fast
growth of high speed internet. Developments in broadband technology have permitted people to
upload and download enormous files fast. The existence of these three causes has become a perfect
storm for illegal downloading. As a result this could considerably destroy market progression and
sustainability of companies. (Sudler, 2013).
Another reason for increase the number of illegal downloading there is no global obligation within the
countries to control the online piracy. For example, China has website named Baidu, largest search
engine site in China, remains to provide a facility of sharing widespread music (Young, 2011, cited
from Sudler, 2013). Other countries such as

The Production of Ammonia and Its Building Blocks
Also known as azane, ammonia is a chemical compound with one nitrogen and three hydrogen atoms
that are tightly bonded together; giving it the formula NH3. At room temperature, ammonia exists in a
gaseous state with a colourless form and a pungent smell. It boils at 33.34°C and ammonia used for
household uses is usually a mixture of ammonia and water. Ammonia provides the right conditions
and nutrition that are needed for the growth of terrestrial organisms. Even in commercial products
such as pharmaceuticals, ammonia is directly or indirectly a building block. Ammonia that is used for
commercial applications is called anhydrous ammonia. Since it has a very low boiling point, the
chemical should be kept at very low temperatures and pressure to sustain its liquid form for
commercial use. Some products that contain this alkaline substance can be cleaning products or
fertilizers, as ammonia is known to provide the right conditions for plants to grow. Although the
chemical has several commercial uses, it is very hazardous, even in low concentrations and therefore it
is important to handle the chemical properly. Inhaling or getting the solution on skin can have several
effects such as burning, fainting and even death. Even low concentrations can cause damage to the
human body when over exposed. Production

releasing ammonia into the air. Not only that, but ammonia salts can also be

Superheroes In The Incredibles
The Incredibles is a 2004 animated film produced by Pixar Studios. It takes place in a superhero filled
world in the 1960 s. The film follows former superheroes, Bob and Helen Parr, as well as their super
powered children. The film breaks from the convention of the genre through its focus on the
consequence of hero work, the subversion of the typical protagonist and its lack of source material.
Often in superhero films, heroes are able to tear up whole cities in the pursuit of stopping a villain
with next to no repercussions resulting from the property damage they caused; this type of careless
display of destruction was shown in such films as The Avengers (2012), and was most notably
criticized in 2013 s Man of Steel. The Incredibles, however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

After the events of the opening sequence, it cuts to 15 years later, as they are no longer allowed to use
their superpowers, Bob is working at a mundane office job and Helen (formerly Elastigirl) is at home
taking care of their children. Heroes are often shown as younger and physically fit, not middle aged
and married; even in films where they follow a more mature hero, such as Tony Stark in Iron Man
(2008), and subsequent films; he is still a childless bachelor. Centering the film on characters in this
phase of life brings an interesting perspective on what it would be like to juggle a family and
superhero work. Moreover, unlike other superhero teams, which may position the team as coming
together to form familial like relationship through their shared super powered abilities, as in X Men
(2000), or through an organization like Avengers (2012), The Incredibles has the superhero team as an
actual family. The film displays a realistic, slightly dysfunctional family dynamic, making the
characters feel real instead portraying them like gods or icons to look up to, as superheroes often

Curriculum Reform in Schools
Critical Review The world population has grown and diversified causing a great impact on economic
and social life. This growth has influence language specialists and teachers of ELT to have a different
perspective on language learning and language use. The growing changes in standardized English ask
for a curriculum reform and different ways for schools to meet the students needs. For those reasons I
will critically review the following articles, Opportunity and Diversity: The Handbook for Teachers of
English , created by the British Council in 2009. The article Towards Intercultural Communicative
Competence in ELT written by, Cem Alptekin 2002 and The Future of English article , written by
David Graddol 1997. This review will put in perspective the different ideas on how to approach ELT
in the 20th century and the next years to come. Articles summary The Handbook for Teachers of
English (2009) is a book which gives insight on different methods that can be used to teach a diverse
classroom and establishing equality. According to the book the first step to establish equality in the
classroom is to identify the students visible and invisible differences (British Council, p.8). The book
suggests that using these differences in a positive manner will facilitate the practical process of
teaching. A good example is given in the book of how this it is done, by suggesting class projects
where the students learn about other cultures and learn to accept them. By doing this

A Frightening Journey Essay
A Frightening Journey
It was a dark knight, I remember that it was Thursday which is usually said as the Friday night. People
believe that many evil spirits will appear and haunt people or the human being. And this is my
experience when I had to walk alone on the Friday night.
I went to my aunt s house on Tegal Wangi street in order to give her some food cooked by my mother.
It was o clock in the evening and I arrived thereat quarter past seven in the evening. I rode my
motorbike. There, I met my aunt and my cousin, whereas my uncle was going to the village and was
not at home. She was happy to know that I visited her. As usual, we talked about many things. It was
very interesting. We kept talking until finally, when I looked at the clock, ... Show more content on

I also passed my friend s house which is located located next to the cemetery. At that time I thought
that I would spend the night at my friend s house. But, I cancelled my thought and continued my way
home. I did not like the cemetery s situation, it is frightening. Besides, my friend must be sleeping so I
did not want to bother her. I kept walking until I found a very silent road. Nobody was going out and
only several lamps were turned on. I started to feel frightened. I stopped and thought again, I planned
to come back to my uncle s house but it was too late. My house was about several meters away, and I
had to pass the road because the road is the shortcut to my house. I encouraged myself, I have to be
brave! Slowly, I started to walk through that frightening road. I saw to the left and to the right. The
road was like a dead city. I could not find anybody there. Suddenly, I felt someone following me.
When I looked back, I did not see anything or anyone.I felt frightened again, but I have to continue
my journey . I walked again and took a deep breath to calm myself down. Suddenly, something even

Short Story Of Diablo 2
Diablo II s twin suns burned Carlos Nieto s exposed skin as he concentrated on the job before him. He
tried not to gag from the smell of the dead police sniper next to him. Carlos pulled the bloody sniper
rifle from under the dead officer s body and checked the action. He was amused to see it was a locally
manufactured copy of an old Earth .50 cal rifle. From his rooftop position on the on the apartment
building he had a good view of the surrounding area. Hundreds of protesters advanced towards a line
of police officers, protecting a government office. Carlos looked over the other rooftops and didn t see
any other police. He took positioned with the rifle barrel on top of the half wall bordering the roof and
took aim. There was surprisingly little recoil as the rifle fired. Carlos watched as the police officer s
neck exploded, effectively decapitating the woman as her helmet fell to the ground with her head still
in it. Carlos fired nine more times, while the police line held their position and opened fire on the
protesters. That should be enough for today, Carlos thought smugly. He walked to the opposite side of
the roof and removed a rope from his satchel then tied it to a pipe before throwing it down the side of
the building. He reached into his satchel and dropped a protest pamphlet next to the rope before taking
one last look around the roof then retreating to the roof exit. Cease fire damn it! Sgt. Kim Mulder

The Outer Banks Of North Carolina
Out of all the places in the world to visit, one might consider the Outer Banks of North Carolina with
the vast grassy nature preserves to the warm sand between your fingers and toes. A good place to be
with me would be a week at the beach, a place of healing and relaxation. On the beach, you can live in
bliss. There are many beaches all over the world that people enjoy going to for different reasons;
however, the Outer Banks of North Carolina has vibrant beaches where people can enjoy their
vacations at any time of day.
Located about 330 miles south of New York City is the Outer Banks, there is much more to do than
just lay around on one of the many beautiful beaches. The Outer Banks are barrier islands off the coast
of the U.S. state of North Carolina, separating the Atlantic Ocean from the mainland. Their open sea
beaches, state parks and shipwreck diving sites make them a popular holiday destination. The Outer
Banks is a 200 mile long string of narrow peninsulas and barrier islands off the coast of North
Carolina and a small part of Virginia, beginning in the southeastern corner of Virginia Beach on the
east coast of the United States.
Reasons to visit the Outer Banks, in North Carolina would be the gorgeous beach, the wild horses and
the views of the historic lighthouses. In North Carolina, when the fresh breeze in the air hits you in the
early morning, then it s time to start the day. In the morning, the waves are slow and calm, rolling in
and out to the shore. The

Research Approach And Inductive Approach
When choosing the research approach, when the selection between deductive approach and inductive
approach both are suitable for the research. Deductive approach is when theory and hypothesis are
built up after reading literature and the testing theory and hypothesis is tested. Inductive approach is
focused on the testing theory. When this theory developed from the analysis of collected data which
depend on building theory (Saunders etal., 2003). So, the chosen method is the deductive approach.
First of all, we started to read the different literature to find the theories of our questions. If we start to
talk about research philosophy, we understand the way of thinking when it comes to the development
of knowledge. We can form the research process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Primordial Soup
In 1924, the Soviet biologist Alexander Oparin proposed a theory of the origin of life, Oparin believed
that during chemical evolution of molecules that have carbon in Primordial Soup. The theory suggests
that life began in a body of water, resulting into the combination of chemicals from the atmosphere
and a form of energy to create amino acids which evolved into all of the species. Chemist Stanley
Miller and physicist Harold Urey conducted an experiment in 1950 to test Oparin s theory. They
mixed gases thought to be present on primitive earth such as: Methane, Ammonia, Water, and
Hydrogen. They then sparked the mixture to represent the lightning, and amino acids were produced;

It is believed that it may have been a major step in cellular life due to the fact that RNA stores genetic

Community Clay Hypothesis
In this hypothesis a scientist by the name of Dan Luo believes that clay hydrogels provide a way for
chemicals to come together and form complex biomolecules. Hydrogel is made up of groups of
polymer chains that suck up large amounts of water. The trapped chemicals react and form
biochemicals like proteins and DNA. We propose that in early geological history clay hydrogel
provided a confinement function for biomolecules and biochemical reactions, said Luo.

Questions On Computer Systems System
Task 1 Computer Systems
Internal System Unit Components:
Central processing unit
A processor or also known as a micro processor is a small chip that goes inside a computer and some
other electronic devices. The job of a processor is very important as it has to receive input and provide
the appropriate output. This component can handle trillions of calculations per second.
The main processor in a computer system is called a central processing unit which handles all the
simple instructions that the computer gives. For example it gives instructions for processing output
features like the mouse and keyboard and running applications. The processor fits on the motherboard
and is known as the heart of the computer system as it controls everything that takes place in the
computer system. The central processing unit contains the circuitry which processes the instructions in
the computer programs by interpreting them into actual movements of bits of data within the computer
memory. Motherboard
The motherboard is the most important component within a computer system. The motherboard is a
printed circuit board where the majority of the essential parts of the PC belongs. Connections between
the actual PC and peripherals go through the motherboard. The motherboard houses components like

Film Analysis Of Sleeping Beauty
Sleeping Beauty
The film Sleeping Beauty , produced by Charles Perrault, is set as a tale which involves a princess, a
handsome prince, and an evil witch. The story is about, Princess Aurora, who was stabbed with the
spindle as a baby and overcome the curse of an evil witch. She fell asleep for one hundred years, and
could only be saved only by charming Prince Phillip. In the Sleeping Beauty, Charles Perrault used a
number of Aristotle s elements such as the plot to structure storylines for his film.
The film has an interesting plot and opened with a shot of turning pages of a storybook, showing a
fantastical nature of the following tale. The story introduced King Stefan and his wife, who finally
conceived their first child after years of wanting one. Supporters from all over Stephan s kingdom
brought gifts and celebrated the birth. Stefan invited King Hubert, a king from his neighboring
kingdom. Hubert s young son, Prince Phillip engaged to the baby princess Aurora, was part of the
celebration.
At the festivities, there were three godmotherly fairies from the forest that came to shower gifts on the
baby princess. Flora delivered the gift of beauty, and Fauna gave Aurora the gift of song. But before
spunky little Merryweather could have present her gift, the evil witch Maleficent appeared in a rush of
wind. In bitter response because she was not invited to the celebration, the black witch cursed Aurora.
She stated that the princess will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel on her sixteenth
birthday and die. . Merryweather couldn t reversed the curse, but she changed the effect of the prick to
a deep sleep instead of death, out of which the princess could be awakened by the kiss of true love.
King Stefan ordered a bonfire of all the spinning wheels in the kingdom, trying to avoid the witch s
powerful curse. Sadly, he allowed the three fairies to take Aurora away from the kingdom in order to
protect her, hide her, and raise her without magic. They also renamed Princess Aurora to Briar Rose.
After Sixteen years passed in the kingdom, the most important day of Rose s sixteenth birthday
arrived. The witch still had not yet found Aurora because, as she realized only today, her henchmen

U.s. Immigration Policy Policies Essay
U.S. immigration policy has always been an important topic debated by Presidential candidates for
decades. Immigration reform has been ignored by Congress, leaving decisions up to the President and
Supreme Court. In the meantime, the hopes of about eleven million illegal immigrants in the U.S., as
well as future rules for legal immigration, rest on the shoulders of those decision makers. Hillary
Clinton and Donald Trump both agree that changes to U.S. immigration policy are needed; however,
Donald Trump is taking a radical approach suggesting mass deportation and completely revamping
U.S. immigration policy, whereas, Hillary Clinton is overlooking some issues and wants to continue to
support the policy set forth by the Obama Administration. Regardless of who becomes President, they
will have a hard time getting these issues passed through Congress.
Deportation
Donald Trump s signature topic during his presidential campaign has been illegal immigration. He has
generated headlines and controversial remarks during his plans for change. In 2015, when he
announced he was running for president, Donald Trump claimed Mexico was sending all their rapist
and violent criminals into the U.S. (Gabbatt, 2015). He also called for the deportation of an estimated
eleven million illegal immigrants. Donald Trump has built his campaign on his willingness to deport a
projected eleven million illegal immigrants; however, most recently his stance has changed. In a
recent interview, Fox News

The Role of Women in Homer’s Iliad Essay
The Role of Women in Homer s Iliad
Homer s Iliad is undoubtedly focused on its male characters: Achilles, primarily, but also Hector and
Agamemnon. Nevertheless, it seems that the most crucial characters in the epic are female. Homer
uses the characters of Thetis, Andromache, and Helen as a basis for comparison to the male characters.
Homer wants his audience to see and understand the folly of his male characters in choosing war over
peace, aggression over kindness, and honor over family. While the behavior of these characters clearly
speaks for itself, the contrasting attitudes and behaviors of the female characters proffer an alternative;
in comparison, the reader can hardly fail to concur with Homer s message that war, aggression, ...

Thetis is always motivated by her love and pity for her son, two emotions he seems unable to feel
himself. As a loving mother, she is concerned for her son and his future and so ensures that he is aware
of his options. Out of respect for him, she allows Achilles to make his own decision and goes as far as
to support him fully, although the attentive reader can sense that doing so is immensely painful for her.
Therefore, although it superficially seems that Thetis supports war and aggression, her true motives
are far more admirable.
Unlike Thetis, Andromache s values are clear. On the rampart in book six, she makes an impassioned
plea to Hector for reason and peace. Pity me, please! she says, Take your stand on the rampart here,
before you orphan your son and make your wife a widow. (ll. 230 231) When her fears are realized
and Hector is struck down by Achilles, she laments, Hector, what help are you to [Astyanax], now you
are dead? (l. 571) This single statement lays bare the true folly of pride: How can one justify the
preservation of honor at the cost of the destruction of all that one fought for in the first place?
Finally, there is great irony in the lamentations of both Helen and Briseis for Hector and Patroclus
respectively. Helen proclaims her respect for Hector s kindness: Hector, you d win them to my side . . .
you with your gentle temper, all your gentle

Reaction Paper On The Underground Railroad
Have you wondered about how the African American slaves got their freedom? In the video, The
Underground Railroad, we see the struggles they experienced to get freedom. I feel like this video was
very good and it made me realize how grateful I should be living in the 21st century and appreciate
history because without history I wouldn t know how people got their freedom, how people came into
places, and in general how the world is what it is. The underground railroad is not a literal railroad, but
a name for a 200 year long struggle of breaking free from slavery in America and gaining your basic
human rights. Living as a slave back then was miserable, torturous, and in general a nightmare. The
slaves couldn t even think about doing something for themselves as it was all about helping the white
people on their farms. Slavery was a core belief of America and a sacred privilege for the whites. If
you take slavery away, America wouldn t feel like America anymore. There were slaves in the all 13
colonies and even in Canada, but in the 1800s a lot of them became anti slavery, so the South was
where we had a lot more slaves in relation to the North. The South had many crops and plantations
which in turn called for a large number of slaves to maintain it, increasing demand in the South. In the
video it mentioned, Plantation owners deeply believed that slavery was an economic necessity and that
the slave trade was its human stock market ( Alexander Street, The

The Culture Of America By Mark Seltzer
In today s society, Americans have been given choices. Choices to do and say what they want.
Although given these choices, Americans would rather designate themselves to take a role as a
spectator rather than being directly involved in a threatening situation. But why does one want to
witness such an image to begin with? This form of fascination can be attributed to the publicizing of
violent crimes by many outlets of media such as newspapers, televisions, and other sources readily
available to the public. The convening of the public around violent scenes has come to make up what
author Mark Seltzer characterizes as a wound culture, which he outlines as the public fascination with
torn and open bodies and torn and opened persons, a collective gathering around shock, trauma, and
the wound (1). Given the enormous volume of crime stories and scenes in today s media, it is
confident to say that the public has become fascinated. The culture of America is drawn to trauma,
which is a Greek word for wound. ( Trauma ) In the turning of the twentieth century, the superstar of
the wound culture emerged: the serial killer. The fascination with this new founded celebrity haunts
and excites the community. These famous killers are intriguing and raise complex questions of why
people do what they do. Therefore, serial killers are molded by family experiences, the oedipal
complex, and the fear of abandonment.

Lumbriculus Viegatus Lab Report
Lumbriculus variegatus, also known as blackworms, reproduce by asexual fragmentation in a lab
setting. They are easy to handle and keep alive, needing only fresh spring water every few days. They
are viewed under a stereomicroscope and slowed down by exposure to ice water for easier cutting.
The object of the experiment was to test whether the amount of segments left in a cut worm affected
the regeneration rate of the worm. We cut the worms into small and long anterior and posterior
fragments, along with separating the heads and tails. We predicted the pieces of worms with the most
segments (the long anterior and long posterior) would survive and regenerate better than the smaller
sections. Our results showed the null hypothesis was supported because the short anterior segments
grew the most. The reason for this occurrence may be the worms survival, regardless of segment
length, is unpredictable. This would also offer an explanation as to why our control worms died in the
end of the experiment.
Introduction
Lumbriculus variegatus, also known as blackworms or California blackworms, are known for their
abilities to regenerate. Lumbriculus variegatus are in the phylum Annelida, class Oligochaeta, order
Lumbriculidae, family Lumbriculidae, and genus Lumbriculus variegatu. (Drewes 2004). Blackworms
are easy to maintain, needing only spring creek water to keep them alive. A blackworm has about 150
to 250 segments on its body, which is about 10 centimeters long (Drewes 2004).

An Examination Of Post Event Information ( Pei )
Another form of Post event information (PEI) is conformity, in the event that an individual witnesses a
crime committed there is always the potential that there are co witnesses that also witnessed the crime,
while an increase in witnesses may hold some positives there is the potential for conformity.
Conformity takes place when one witnesses memories of a past event become more like another
person s described memories of the same event (Kieckhaefer, J.M. Wright, D.B., 2015, pg. 462). Co
witnesses often alter their memory reports to coincide with other witnesses reports (Goodwin K.A. et
al., 2013, pg. 91). If a co witness is a friend or family then an individual is even more likely to
conform to their views than they would be if the co witness was a stranger. Kieckhaefer and Wright
also found evidence that another factor that increases a witnesses memory conformity is if the co
witness is likable(Kieckhaefer, J.M. Wright, D.B., 2015, pg. 463). There have been multiple studies
conducted where researchers use confederates, research helpers used to feed unknowing participants
information, to determine whether or not participants will conform to the confederate s reports
(Goodwin, K.A. et al., 2013, pg. 91). Furthermore, witnesses are more likely to alter their views when
they are motivated to avoid deviating from the group. Therefore, if a group of other individuals
pressure a witness they are likely to alter their experience to fit with others (Goodwin, K.A. et al.,

The Approach to Nature of Descartes and White Essay
The Approach to Nature of Descartes and White The approach to nature which René Descartes takes is
distinct from that of Gilbert White. Descartes and White have similar key methods of examining
nature. It is mainly in Descartes deductive reasoning and beliefs that lead him to the method of
approaching nature internally (mind and body). Conversely, White s keen observances, inductive
reasoning, and appreciation for his surroundings lead him to the method of investigating the external
nature (Selborne). Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this hierarchy, God stands as some more perfect being on which [humans] [depend] (Descartes, 26).
Humans are placed in the centre, because God grants us the ability to reason the ability to distinguish
what is true from what is false (Descartes, 22). Below us rest animals, having no reason. Truth in
nature therefore, must not come from animals since they are lesser beings, but rather, it must be found
within humans.
White finds appreciation for the external nature which Descartes considers to be less certain
(Descartes, 28). While Descartes takes a rational approach, White takes a scientific, yet literary means
toward nature. He observes nature ardently, noting animals modes of life housing, reproduction,
communications, transportation, and physical appearance. His ability to personify these animals
creates a meeting place for wild life and human feeling (White, xvii). In his recordings for example,
White observes the swallow s mode of life. It builds its nest, often within barns and out houses against
the rafters (White, 156). The swallow lays from four to six white eggs, dotted with red specks; and
brings about her first brood about the last week in June, or the first week of July (White, 157). The
swallow is a delicate songster, and in soft sunny weather sings

Persuasive Essay Water Footprint
Introductory Paragraph: The next time you re sitting back enjoying a hot cup of coffee consider that
you ve just consumed up to around one hundred and forty litres of water, that s around how much
water it took to grow the coffee beans that are in that coffee. This may be a shock but it is trifling
compared to the amount of soil, ground, surface, and rain water it takes to produce most goods
humans consume or use on a daily basis, the volume of which each Australian individual consumes is
known as the water footprint . Water footprints show the extent of water use in relation to how much is

most Australians would have no idea how much water that they are using by purchasing food or
goods, or purchasing a home appliance. A global study Water Footprints Of Nations (Hoekstra
Chapagain) found that Australia s households had the worlds worst record for the consumption of
water, despite having one of the most efficient farming and industrial usages. It is important for
Australian residents to find ways to save water in their homes and in the industry to ... Show more

Hypnotherapy is therapy that is undertaken with a subject in hypnosis.[citation needed]
The word hypnosis (from the Greek hypnos, sleep ) is an abbreviation of James Braid s (1841) term
neuro hypnotism , meaning sleep of the nervous system .
A person who is hypnotized displays certain unusual characteristics and propensities, compared with a
non hypnotized subject, most notably hyper suggestibility, which some authorities have considered a
sine qua non of hypnosis. For example, Clark L. Hull, probably the first major empirical researcher in
the field, wrote,
If a subject after submitting to the hypnotic procedure shows no genuine increase in susceptibility to
any suggestions whatever, there seems no point in calling him ... Show more content on

Whilst Braid differed in offering an explanation of hypnotitc effects that did not rely on supernatual
forces, he credited the methods used in hypnosis to the practice of Mesmerism. Braid said of the
subject:
Hypnotism might therefore not inaptly be designated, Rational Mesmerism, in contra distinction to the
Transcendental Mesmerism of the Mesmerists.[2]
In their original committee report on hypnotherapy, the British Medical Association (BMA), likewise,
made a point of condemning the occult theories of Mesmerism and sharply distinguishing them from
hypnotism.
The Committee, having completed such investigation of hypnotism as time permitted, have to report
that they have satisfied themselves of the genuineness of the hypnotic state. No phenomena which
have come under their observation, however, lend support to the theory of animal magnetism . (
Report on Hypnotism , British Medical Journal, 1892).
Whereas Mesmerism is a supernatural theory, hypnotism attempted to explain the same phenomena in
terms of psychology and physiology. As Braid puts it, it is a scientific and psycho physiological (mind
body) discipline.
There is no doubt that some individuals have suffered the ill effects of being involved in stage
hypnotic shows. Stage hypnotists use words like magic and control in an attempt to mystify the effects
of hypnosis. In addition, using various tests of hypnotic

Role Of Indians In Colonial American History
One may believe that the information in one s history textbook is accurate, but this is not always the
case. The definition of history is the study of past events, the branch of knowledge that records and
analyzes past events , according the Merriam Webster Dictionary. One may regard the native
Americans if we regard them at all as exotic or pathetic footnotes to the main course of American
history , according to Axtell. (Axtell, James.981) One may believe this because of what textbooks say.
When mentioning Indians, History textbooks often infer the Indians do nothing, resist... [or make]

Especially since the British had become more experienced as well in Scotland at the time in
counterinsurgent warfare. The Indians gave the colonist an opponent to perhaps train or practice on
along with gaining knowledge. The history of the colonial American fighting tactics would be
undoubtedly different without the Indians to introduce the new fighting strategy known as guerrilla
warfare. It is possible this may have been helpful to the colonist when they won the revolutionary war.
(Axtell.994) Furthermore the economy would have been utterly different without the Indians in place
when the colonial Americans arrived. It is easy for one to see how the agriculture would have been
similar but not the same without the Indians. Axtell stated that the mainstay of colonial life would
have been farming either for family subsistence or for capitalist marketing and accumulation. Because
of the Indians existence before the Colonial Americas an extensive amount of land was cleared by the
Indians which made the farming process somewhat easier for the Colonial Americas. The Indians were
able to clear to clear the grub and make meadows and park like woods by seasonal burning .

were formed. It was relatively easy for the colonist to obtain clear Indian land by trading a few

according to MILJANOVIC, M. and LAPAS, D., The nature of armed conflicts has changed

  • 2. The Invention Of The World Wide Web The present society of today embodies a distinct shape, organization, role, and feel from the societies of a millennium ago, a century ago, or even a decade ago. These metamorphoses are, in part, caused by the multiple technological revolutions that our society has experienced throughout its history. Each time a technological revolution occurs when a novel technology is introduced to build upon or succeed an older one the entire society (and the individuals that comprise it) changes. However, as Marshall McLuhan suggested within the printed pages of Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man, the medium is the message (McLuhan 1964). In other words, these shifts are not as much the direct result of the invention s content or it s use, as they are the outcomes of effects that are intrinsic within the technology itself. Although McLuhan published this work in 1964, almost thirty years before the invention of the World Wide Web, this adage still holds true for the Internet today. Technologies, such as the Internet, should not be viewed, using the instrumentalist perspective, as inherently neutral tools that are valuable only for their ends, intended purposes, or practical benefits (Ellul, Wilkinson, and Merton 1964, Carr 2010, 45). Rather, the means themselves, or what McLuhan would consider the medium, should also be recognized as carrying messages that hold powerful, unintended consequences for society (Ellul, Wilkinson, and Merton 1964, McLuhan 1964). • 3. Three Fifths Compromise Essay There are a number of compromises that can be found in the U.S constitution, all having had a major role in shaping what we all know today as the United States of America. With so many important compromises it is hard to chose just one. That being said, the compromise which I intend to discuss is the three fifths compromise. This compromise is important in our history and is a pretty controversial matter.Three fifths compromise was important for both the northern and southern states. The main question that was brought up for this subject was if slaves should be counted in census to determine the number of congressional delegates a state should recieve. What was the Three Fifths Compromise? It was an agreement between the north and the south ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As previously stated, the clause provides that representation in Congress will be based on the whole number of free persons and three fifths of all other persons (Article 1 section 2 clause 3) which referred to the slaves. According to Erik M. Jensen, professor of law, the popular misunderstanding in regards to this provision is that it did not declare that African American slaves were three fifths of a person but rather the provision was declaring that the slave states would get extra representation in Congress for their slaves, even though those states treated slaves only as property. Ultimately, this provision was not really about race but rather about status and political power for the states. Something that some might not know is that free blacks were not counted in the same way as slaves were. They were counted in the same way as all white men. (The Root) The reason for this is because the clause did not say that a slave was three fifth of a person also, the clause had nothing that involved free blacks. Instead, the clause gave us a mathematical formula for the allocation of representatives in congress that factored in slave population. Although slaves could not vote, free blacks could vote in some states. Long story short, the cause did not provide a voice for the slaves but rather this was about the distribution of political power in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This may be because it can be taboo to talk about cancers or perhaps those born to poor economic status do not have access to adequate health care screenings. • 6. Essay on The Physics of Motorcycle Roadracing Despite what some people may think, motorcycle roadracing is not only a highly strenuous sport, but there is much more involved than just twisting the throttle and turning the handlebars. There are a number of powerful forces working on the bike and the rider. There is, of course, the downward pull of gravity, friction between the tires and the track, and centrifugal force which acts to the outside of the turn. The key to cornering at high speeds is to perfect the lean angle of the motorcycle so that the force of gravity reaches equilibrium with the centrifugal force attempting to stand the bike back up. If the bike is leaned to far, it falls over. If it is not leaned far enough, centrifugal force pulls it back up and the turn is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the rider would push on the left handlebar (turning the bars to the right) in order to make a left turn. This may seem like a foreign concept at first, but it makes sense in the context of gyroscopic motion. Consider a bicycle wheel: The effects of gyroscopic precession can be felt when the wheel is held by the axle in the position shown, spun, and then turned sharply to the left or right. If the wheel is turned to the left, the top will twist to the right, pushing the bottom to the left. The same applies to a motorcycle when the wheels are spinning very quickly and the machine is turned. Turning the handlebars to the left would force the top of the wheel to move to the right, thus leaning the motorcycle in the opposite direction that the wheel was turned. The equation for this motion of the wheel is T=IWv where T is the torque, I is the moment of inertia, v is the wheel speed, and W is the angular velocity of the turn. This equation relies on the conservation of the wheel s angular momentum.(Sport Rider 2002) Steering Method #2: Body Steering The concept of body steering relies on the rider s shifts in weight and pressure application on various parts of the motorcycle to turn it. Theoretically, one could turn a bike without ever touching the handlebars simply by shifting body weight. For example, to turn the bike to the left, the rider could simply ... Intelligence is an important factor in our lives but what exactly is it? Intelligence has many different meanings due to different investigators having numerous definitions of it. For example, in a 1921 conference, American psychologists Lewis M. Terman and Edward L. Thorndike contrasted over the definition of intelligence, Terman believed that intelligence was the ability to think abstractly while Thorndike alleged that intelligence was learning and the ability to give good responses to questions (Sternberg, 2014). He then opposed those who believed in the environmental effects on intelligence (Behavioral Neuroscience Web Ring Macalester College). For centuries, this debate had no clear conclusion but many theories and hypothesis. Although both the nature and nurture side has find great amount of evidence, it is still undecided which side has more effects in one s intelligence. First, the theory about how genes can affect your intelligence can be tested thanks to the birth of monozygotic or identical twins born from the same cell (Behavioral neuroscience Web Ring Macalester College). Because children share 50% of their genes with each of their parents, this then becomes an interesting area of research because they could compare monozygotic twins who share 100 percent of their genes. This paper is going to discuss the differences in classic theorist s views on socioeconomic status and the level of education a person receives. To begin, let s say that the people who receive a higher level of education tend to be higher in socioeconomic status and, therefore, the people who do not receive a much education tend to be lower in status. Structural functionalist would say that the different levels of education are to keep society balanced. People with less education tend to have mediocre or blue collar jobs, while people with a higher education have more noteworthy jobs. As a society, we need both types of people in order for society to fully function. If everyone was blessed with the opportunity to get the highest levels of education, it would offset the equilibrium because no one would want to do the simple yet necessary jobs. If no one did those, we would not have restaurants or clean public restrooms. The roads would be terrible because there would be no construction workers to maintain them. The technology development of computer and communication led to increase the illegal downloading of digital multimedia (e.g. music). In general, there is no change in the behavior of buyers, but starting of internet network and uprising of computerized systems, result in latest rise in piracy. The digital revolution has been one of the most important causes in control of piracy. As the arrival of the digital revolution, it has become not difficult to copy digital information without losing in its features. One more significant cause has been the introduction of the Internet, a commercial Internet protocol that has basically opened the front gate to low cost worldwide sharing. A third facilitator has been the fast growth of high speed internet. Developments in broadband technology have permitted people to upload and download enormous files fast. The existence of these three causes has become a perfect storm for illegal downloading. As a result this could considerably destroy market progression and sustainability of companies. (Sudler, 2013). Another reason for increase the number of illegal downloading there is no global obligation within the countries to control the online piracy. The Production of Ammonia and Its Building Blocks Also known as azane, ammonia is a chemical compound with one nitrogen and three hydrogen atoms that are tightly bonded together; giving it the formula NH3. At room temperature, ammonia exists in a gaseous state with a colourless form and a pungent smell. It boils at 33.34°C and ammonia used for household uses is usually a mixture of ammonia and water. Ammonia provides the right conditions and nutrition that are needed for the growth of terrestrial organisms. Even in commercial products such as pharmaceuticals, ammonia is directly or indirectly a building block. Ammonia that is used for commercial applications is called anhydrous ammonia. Since it has a very low boiling point, the chemical should be kept at very low temperatures and pressure to sustain its liquid form for commercial use. Some products that contain this alkaline substance can be cleaning products or fertilizers, as ammonia is known to provide the right conditions for plants to grow. Although the chemical has several commercial uses, it is very hazardous, even in low concentrations and therefore it is important to handle the chemical properly. Inhaling or getting the solution on skin can have several effects such as burning, fainting and even death. Even low concentrations can cause damage to the human body when over exposed. The film follows former superheroes, Bob and Helen Parr, as well as their super powered children. The film breaks from the convention of the genre through its focus on the consequence of hero work, the subversion of the typical protagonist and its lack of source material. Often in superhero films, heroes are able to tear up whole cities in the pursuit of stopping a villain with next to no repercussions resulting from the property damage they caused; this type of careless display of destruction was shown in such films as The Avengers (2012), and was most notably criticized in 2013 s Man of Steel. The job of a processor is very important as it has to receive input and provide the appropriate output. This component can handle trillions of calculations per second. The main processor in a computer system is called a central processing unit which handles all the simple instructions that the computer gives. For example it gives instructions for processing output features like the mouse and keyboard and running applications. The processor fits on the motherboard and is known as the heart of the computer system as it controls everything that takes place in the computer system. The central processing unit contains the circuitry which processes the instructions in the computer programs by interpreting them into actual movements of bits of data within the computer memory. Motherboard The motherboard is the most important component within a computer system. The motherboard is a printed circuit board where the majority of the essential parts of the PC belongs. Connections between the actual PC and peripherals go through the motherboard. The motherboard houses components like the CPU, RAM and other hardware components. • 28. Film Analysis Of Sleeping Beauty Sleeping Beauty The film Sleeping Beauty , produced by Charles Perrault, is set as a tale which involves a princess, a handsome prince, and an evil witch. The story is about, Princess Aurora, who was stabbed with the spindle as a baby and overcome the curse of an evil witch. She fell asleep for one hundred years, and could only be saved only by charming Prince Phillip. In the Sleeping Beauty, Charles Perrault used a number of Aristotle s elements such as the plot to structure storylines for his film. The film has an interesting plot and opened with a shot of turning pages of a storybook, showing a fantastical nature of the following tale. The story introduced King Stefan and his wife, who finally conceived their first child after years of wanting one. Supporters from all over Stephan s kingdom brought gifts and celebrated the birth. Stefan invited King Hubert, a king from his neighboring kingdom. Hubert s young son, Prince Phillip engaged to the baby princess Aurora, was part of the celebration. At the festivities, there were three godmotherly fairies from the forest that came to shower gifts on the baby princess. Flora delivered the gift of beauty, and Fauna gave Aurora the gift of song. But before spunky little Merryweather could have present her gift, the evil witch Maleficent appeared in a rush of wind. In bitter response because she was not invited to the celebration, the black witch cursed Aurora. She stated that the princess will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel on her sixteenth birthday and die. . Merryweather couldn t reversed the curse, but she changed the effect of the prick to a deep sleep instead of death, out of which the princess could be awakened by the kiss of true love. King Stefan ordered a bonfire of all the spinning wheels in the kingdom, trying to avoid the witch s powerful curse. Sadly, he allowed the three fairies to take Aurora away from the kingdom in order to protect her, hide her, and raise her without magic. They also renamed Princess Aurora to Briar Rose. After Sixteen years passed in the kingdom, the most important day of Rose s sixteenth birthday arrived. The witch still had not yet found Aurora because, as she realized only today, her henchmen have been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. U.s. Immigration Policy Policies Essay U.S. immigration policy has always been an important topic debated by Presidential candidates for decades. Immigration reform has been ignored by Congress, leaving decisions up to the President and Supreme Court. In the meantime, the hopes of about eleven million illegal immigrants in the U.S., as well as future rules for legal immigration, rest on the shoulders of those decision makers. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump both agree that changes to U.S. immigration policy are needed; however, Donald Trump is taking a radical approach suggesting mass deportation and completely revamping U.S. immigration policy, whereas, Hillary Clinton is overlooking some issues and wants to continue to support the policy set forth by the Obama Administration. Regardless of who becomes President, they will have a hard time getting these issues passed through Congress. Deportation Donald Trump s signature topic during his presidential campaign has been illegal immigration. He has generated headlines and controversial remarks during his plans for change. In 2015, when he announced he was running for president, Donald Trump claimed Mexico was sending all their rapist and violent criminals into the U.S. (Gabbatt, 2015). He also called for the deportation of an estimated eleven million illegal immigrants. Donald Trump has built his campaign on his willingness to deport a projected eleven million illegal immigrants; however, most recently his stance has changed. In a recent interview, Fox News ... • 30. The Role of Women in Homer’s Iliad Essay The Role of Women in Homer s Iliad Homer s Iliad is undoubtedly focused on its male characters: Achilles, primarily, but also Hector and Agamemnon. Nevertheless, it seems that the most crucial characters in the epic are female. Homer uses the characters of Thetis, Andromache, and Helen as a basis for comparison to the male characters. Homer wants his audience to see and understand the folly of his male characters in choosing war over peace, aggression over kindness, and honor over family. While the behavior of these characters clearly speaks for itself, the contrasting attitudes and behaviors of the female characters proffer an alternative; in comparison, the reader can hardly fail to concur with Homer s message that war, aggression, ... As a loving mother, she is concerned for her son and his future and so ensures that he is aware of his options. Out of respect for him, she allows Achilles to make his own decision and goes as far as to support him fully, although the attentive reader can sense that doing so is immensely painful for her. Therefore, although it superficially seems that Thetis supports war and aggression, her true motives are far more admirable. Unlike Thetis, Andromache s values are clear. On the rampart in book six, she makes an impassioned plea to Hector for reason and peace. Pity me, please! she says, Take your stand on the rampart here, before you orphan your son and make your wife a widow. (ll. 230 231) When her fears are realized and Hector is struck down by Achilles, she laments, Hector, what help are you to [Astyanax], now you are dead? (l. 571) This single statement lays bare the true folly of pride: How can one justify the preservation of honor at the cost of the destruction of all that one fought for in the first place? Finally, there is great irony in the lamentations of both Helen and Briseis for Hector and Patroclus respectively. Helen proclaims her respect for Hector s kindness: Hector, you d win them to my side . . . you with your gentle temper, all your gentle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Reaction Paper On The Underground Railroad Have you wondered about how the African American slaves got their freedom? In the video, The Underground Railroad, we see the struggles they experienced to get freedom. I feel like this video was very good and it made me realize how grateful I should be living in the 21st century and appreciate history because without history I wouldn t know how people got their freedom, how people came into places, and in general how the world is what it is. The underground railroad is not a literal railroad, but a name for a 200 year long struggle of breaking free from slavery in America and gaining your basic human rights. Living as a slave back then was miserable, torturous, and in general a nightmare. The slaves couldn t even think about doing something for themselves as it was all about helping the white people on their farms. Slavery was a core belief of America and a sacred privilege for the whites. If you take slavery away, America wouldn t feel like America anymore. There were slaves in the all 13 colonies and even in Canada, but in the 1800s a lot of them became anti slavery, so the South was where we had a lot more slaves in relation to the North. The South had many crops and plantations which in turn called for a large number of slaves to maintain it, increasing demand in the South. In the video it mentioned, Plantation owners deeply believed that slavery was an economic necessity and that the slave trade was its human stock market ( Alexander Street, The ... • 37. The Culture Of America By Mark Seltzer In today s society, Americans have been given choices. Choices to do and say what they want. Although given these choices, Americans would rather designate themselves to take a role as a spectator rather than being directly involved in a threatening situation. But why does one want to witness such an image to begin with? This form of fascination can be attributed to the publicizing of violent crimes by many outlets of media such as newspapers, televisions, and other sources readily available to the public. The convening of the public around violent scenes has come to make up what author Mark Seltzer characterizes as a wound culture, which he outlines as the public fascination with torn and open bodies and torn and opened persons, a collective gathering around shock, trauma, and the wound (1). Given the enormous volume of crime stories and scenes in today s media, it is confident to say that the public has become fascinated. The culture of America is drawn to trauma, which is a Greek word for wound. ( Trauma ) In the turning of the twentieth century, the superstar of the wound culture emerged: the serial killer. The fascination with this new founded celebrity haunts and excites the community. These famous killers are intriguing and raise complex questions of why people do what they do. Therefore, serial killers are molded by family experiences, the oedipal complex, and the fear of abandonment. The early stage of life, the childhood years, is the most important stage of a ... • 38. Lumbriculus Viegatus Lab Report Lumbriculus variegatus, also known as blackworms, reproduce by asexual fragmentation in a lab setting. They are easy to handle and keep alive, needing only fresh spring water every few days. They are viewed under a stereomicroscope and slowed down by exposure to ice water for easier cutting. The object of the experiment was to test whether the amount of segments left in a cut worm affected the regeneration rate of the worm. We cut the worms into small and long anterior and posterior fragments, along with separating the heads and tails. We predicted the pieces of worms with the most segments (the long anterior and long posterior) would survive and regenerate better than the smaller sections. Our results showed the null hypothesis was supported because the short anterior segments grew the most. The reason for this occurrence may be the worms survival, regardless of segment length, is unpredictable. This would also offer an explanation as to why our control worms died in the end of the experiment. Introduction Lumbriculus variegatus, also known as blackworms or California blackworms, are known for their abilities to regenerate. Lumbriculus variegatus are in the phylum Annelida, class Oligochaeta, order Lumbriculidae, family Lumbriculidae, and genus Lumbriculus variegatu. (Drewes 2004). Blackworms are easy to maintain, needing only spring creek water to keep them alive. A blackworm has about 150 to 250 segments on its body, which is about 10 centimeters long (Drewes 2004). ... • 39. An Examination Of Post Event Information ( Pei ) Another form of Post event information (PEI) is conformity, in the event that an individual witnesses a crime committed there is always the potential that there are co witnesses that also witnessed the crime, while an increase in witnesses may hold some positives there is the potential for conformity. Conformity takes place when one witnesses memories of a past event become more like another person s described memories of the same event (Kieckhaefer, J.M. Wright, D.B., 2015, pg. 462). Co witnesses often alter their memory reports to coincide with other witnesses reports (Goodwin K.A. et al., 2013, pg. 91). If a co witness is a friend or family then an individual is even more likely to conform to their views than they would be if the co witness was a stranger. Kieckhaefer and Wright also found evidence that another factor that increases a witnesses memory conformity is if the co witness is likable(Kieckhaefer, J.M. Wright, D.B., 2015, pg. 463). There have been multiple studies conducted where researchers use confederates, research helpers used to feed unknowing participants information, to determine whether or not participants will conform to the confederate s reports (Goodwin, K.A. et al., 2013, pg. 91). Furthermore, witnesses are more likely to alter their views when they are motivated to avoid deviating from the group. Therefore, if a group of other individuals pressure a witness they are likely to alter their experience to fit with others (Goodwin, K.A. et al., ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Descartes and White have similar key methods of examining nature. Conversely, White s keen observances, inductive reasoning, and appreciation for his surroundings lead him to the method of investigating the external nature (Selborne). Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this hierarchy, God stands as some more perfect being on which [humans] [depend] (Descartes, 26). Humans are placed in the centre, because God grants us the ability to reason the ability to distinguish what is true from what is false (Descartes, 22). Below us rest animals, having no reason. Truth in nature therefore, must not come from animals since they are lesser beings, but rather, it must be found within humans. White finds appreciation for the external nature which Descartes considers to be less certain (Descartes, 28). While Descartes takes a rational approach, White takes a scientific, yet literary means toward nature. He observes nature ardently, noting animals modes of life housing, reproduction, communications, transportation, and physical appearance. His ability to personify these animals creates a meeting place for wild life and human feeling (White, xvii). In his recordings for example, White observes the swallow s mode of life. It builds its nest, often within barns and out houses against the rafters (White, 156). The swallow lays from four to six white eggs, dotted with red specks; and brings about her first brood about the last week in June, or the first week of July (White, 157).
