L.A. Gang Member by Sanyika Shakur Essay example
L.A. Gang Member by Sanyika Shakur
Kody Scott grew up in South Central L.A. during the nineteen sixties and seventies, soon after the
creation of the Crips. Raised in poverty without a father, and a full family raised solely by his mother,
Kody Scott led the stereotypical ghetto life, a poor and broken home. However he does not blame this
on his own personal decision to join the Crips while only eleven year s old. The allure of the respect
and glory that bangers got, along with the unity of the set (name for the specific gang) is what drew
him into the gang. Once joined, he vowed to stay in the set for life, and claimed that banging was his
life. After many years of still believing this, he eventually realized that the ... Show more content on

However, once out of prison for a while, he knew that this wasn t possible in the real world, like it was
in prison. He now had to make a choice. Once in Prison again, after a failed attempt at gang unity, he
realized that the Afrikan race as a whole along with his newfound responsibility to his family(wife and
kids), was more important than the set , and that he would now leave the set and the gang life.
However this was no easy task, as most who attempt to leave the set don t succeed or die trying. It
took him a whole three years to leave the Crips. He now, however, unlike before, realized that a
banging was wrong for more than just the black on black crime and such, but that it was a matter of
morals and family, and he now no longer took pride in his past actions, but still took responsibility for
them(page 357). Once out of prison again, he was now out of the set and could start a more normal
life with his family and with a real paying job. He was still however part of the New Afrikan
Independence Movement, and also devoted to stopping the causes of gangsterism(page 377).
This complete turnaround in his life and new devotion, is the purpose of the book he wrote. At the
start of the book he tells of how he joined the gang and why. He also tells of all of his glory stories and
how much he enjoyed banging. However as the book slowly progresses, he starts to mature and to
develop mentally. Until toward the end of the book, in

Computer Based Instructional Programs For Student Reading...
Chapter three will describe the methodology selected for an applied dissertation study, the
participants, research design, instruments, data collection procedures, and limitations informing the
research. The purpose of the proposed study is to determine the effectiveness of the i Ready®
computer based reading program used at a Title I school in a large urban district for relationship to
increases of student reading achievement. i Ready® is an interactive computer based instructional
program designed to accelerate reading and language skills at the host school. According to
Curriculum Associates (2014,) i Ready® combines assessment and individualized instruction in a
single web based format ensuring accessibility anywhere a computer or tablet with internet access is
available. i Ready® screens all students for reading difficulties by first requiring students to take a
computerized diagnostic test to determine a personal i Ready® ability level. Thus, the diagnostic can
monitor individual performance throughout primary and secondary education by analyzing specific
needs for students. The adaptive technology analyzes test response patterns to derive information in
order to pinpoint needs more efficiently than traditional fixed form testing methods.
The i Ready program was designed in 2013 to meet the growing demands of the Common Core State
Standards, which was adopted prior to the Florida State Standards. For reading, i Ready addresses the
primary Common Core domains: Phonics,

The Pros And Cons Of Military Peacekeeping
for the purposes of this study, is broadly defined, so it may encompass not only the UN, but also other
relevant organizations to the peacekeeping mission, including the soldier s home state s military.
Peacekeepers may find actions prohibited by the UN as sexual misconduct are culturally acceptable in
his or her home state. Cultural beliefs are considered the compendium of acts that are considered
acceptable by a group of people on which an individual bases his or her actions. The gendered
understanding of sexual misconduct as a value reflects the UN s official view on sexual relations
between peacekeepers and the local population. These relationships reflect a distorted power dynamic
that can be damaging to the organization, the victim, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Any given mission may have unique characteristics regarding the conflict, mandate, and beneficiary
local population. However, only one mission will be considered, given the logistical constraints of
collecting detailed information in many different locations. Despite this constraint, a large enough
sample will reveal if peacekeeping soldiers are having difficulty resolving value conflicts concerning
SEAs. Interviews will be conducted after pre deployment training. This will allow all soldiers to be
similarly exposed to the consequences of sexual misconduct and informed about the gendered
perspective concerning sexual misconduct. While training may vary, the UN produces the guidelines
centrally. Prior to all interviews, demographic data that may be helpful in the analysis will be
collected, including Gender Identification, Nationality, Age, and Rank. All interviewees will be
approved for participation by his or her commanding officer as well as the head of the mission. All
records of the interviews will be subject for review and elimination at the request of the head of the
mission, the commanding officer, and the interviewee at any time. All interviews are confidential, but
anonymized excerpts may be published, at the approval of the all of the aforementioned entities. At
any time during an interview, a participant may leave and/or refuse to have his or her data used in the
study. This right to refuse to participate is communicated in writing and orally both at the beginning of

Plebeians Underdogs
Plebeians; The Underdogs of Rome
There are multiple reasons why the Plebeians were important to Rome. They were the farmers, the
tradesmen, and the soldiers. They did the brunt of the work. They were also the majority of Roman
citizens. I will attempt to explain why the Plebeians were so important.
Who were the Plebeians? What was their role in Rome? What occupation did they hold? How many of
them were there? All important questions. The Plebeians were members of the general citizenry in
ancient Rome as opposed to the privileged patrician class (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica.,
2014). They were either conquered people who came to live in Rome and eventually became Romans,
or people who sought refuge in Rome from political, criminal, ... Show more content on

You do all the hard labor at work, but your boss gets the promotion? You study harder and get better
grades, yet you can t go to college and that rich kid with a C average can? The Plebeians were
underdogs, not appreciated until they were gone, the majority who were drowned out by the minority.
Many of us can understand that. We have all been in the position of being the underdog, the one who
did it all and never got the credit. Perhaps that is why, in history, the Plebeians are painted as victims
and Patricians as power hungry, greedy noblemen. We feel like we can relate to them, and we do not
feel we can relate to the Patricians. That makes me wonder, are we all just Plebeians, being controlled
by a select few individuals who are lucky enough to be born into success or are we all Patricians,
oppressing another group of people while believing we are the

Solving White Tailed Deer Overabundance With Hunting and Sterilization In the past few decades,
white tailed deer populations in North America have increased drastically. Due to some relief in
predation in correlation with changes in the environment deer populations in many zones meet or
exceed 10 deer per square kilometer, which is a much higher ratio than in the 1960 s and 1970 s (Côté
116). With an overabundance of deer, many problems arise; the diversity and success of habitats
decline, agriculture suffers, more deer vehicle collisions occur, and quite a few more issues appear. In
order to maintain a healthy number of deer and reduce these issues, deer populations ... Show more

An abundance of deer initially seems to indicate healthy habitats and flourishing wildlife; however,
overabundance actually leads to severe problems for ecosystems. One of the reasons deer populations
have been able to grow so exponentially is because many forested suburban areas allow for deer
habitats with low risk of predation (Boulanger 174). In correlation with their suburban living,
overpopulated deer end up crossing more roads and highways, posing as more pressing issues towards
automobiles and trains and causing more frequent collisions. Next, and quite obviously,
overabundance creates overcrowding in habitats. Less apparent, however, is the idea that with
increased browsing of new tree seedlings, overpopulated deer decrease species diversity in forests and
reduce tree growth, which leads to a lack of protection from erosion and floods (Côté 117). Deer also
forage selectively, meaning certain species of plant will be eaten more frequently than others, often
resulting in less diversity, ground coverage, and competition between plants (Côté 124). This, in turn,
makes ecosystems less suitable to other species, in particular the foliage. Steeve Côté quotes Hobbs
and Paine, who explain, By affecting competitive interactions among plants with varying levels of
chemical defenses and by altering successional trajectories, deer alter ecosystem processes that
include energy transfer, soil development, and

Seven Approaches to Studying the Human Body Essay
When studying the human body, there are seven organizational approaches. Each approach studies the
body in a different yet unique way and is used in the health care field. The approaches consist of; body
planes and directions, body cavities, quadrants and regions, anatomy and physiology, microscopic and
macroscopic, body systems and medical specialties.
There are three body planes which use different directions: coronal, sagittal, and transverse planes.
Coronal plane slices the body from head to toe giving a front and back view. There are two directions
that are related with it; anterior posterior, moving from the outside of the body through the anterior
part then the posterior section, and posterior anterior, which is its reverse. ... Show more content on

For instance, in the left lower quadrant is the lower part of the kidney, part of the colon, and the left
ovary for women. This type of diagram would help with position the organs. In the health field,
physicians refer to this during an internal exam.
According to Degreedirectory.org (1999), anatomy studies the structure of organs and cells. Since
cells are a microscopic size the best way to study, using this approach is with a microscope, which is,
a tool used to examine cells. Physiology is the study of the function of organ and cells. Organs are of a
macroscopic size that means it can be seen with the naked eye. These approaches can be used in many
ways in health care. An orthopedic would study muscles and tendons or an immunologist would study
blood cells using a microscope.
The human body is made up of several different types of systems. This means that each system is
made up of a few organs, which synchronize with one another and work as a unit. Organs are unable
to perform without the help of the other organs in their unit. All of the organs support one another to
perform their functions.
The gastrointestinal system breaks down the foods we eat into protein, vitamins, fats and
carbohydrates, which is used for energy, growth and repair. The organs in the respiratory system are
the nose, trachea and lungs. These organs help bring air into the body and eliminate the

Examples Of Petruchio In Taming Of The Shrew
Petruchio s Abusive Behavior in The Taming of the Shrew
Khadijah Ceesay
Domestic abuse happens all the time, yet is often overlooked, ignored, or excused. For Katherine
Minola, her husband s friends, servants, and her family overlook any signs of abuse her husband,
Petruchio, shows. To any upstander, it would ve been clear to see that Petruchio would use his power
to control Katherine and break her spirit. Petruchio s verbal and physical behavior towards Katherine
and others creates many signs that his relationship with Katherine may become abusive.
From the moment the play introduces Petruchio s character, he begins to show behavioral warning
signs. When he first arrives in Padua to visit his friend Hortensio, he gets into a small
misunderstanding with his servant Grumio over knocking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This misunderstanding leads Petruchio to wring Grumio by the ears causing Grumio to plead for
someone to save him. Hortensio hears the commotion in front of his door, but doesn t mention it to
either Petruchio or Grumio. Instead, he tells Petruchio of a young lady within Padua, Katherine, who
Petruchio should consider courting for marriage. This behavior from Hortensio is so terrible because
he is well aware of abuse Petruchio is capable of but he still sets him up with Katherine, knowing that
Petruchio is likely to abuse her too. The second behavioral warning sign Petruchio shows is when
arrives late to his own wedding, causing Katherine to believe she is being stood up on her wedding
day. When he does finally arrive, he is dressed in ridiculous clothing with his horse lame in its hips.
He is quite the spectacle to behold, much to the disappointment of Tranio and Baptista, who implore
him to change into more suitable clothing. He refuses their requests and states to me she s married, not
unto my clothes (III.ii.119). This is the first behavioral warning sign presented by Petruchio to
Baptista, showing a less charming version of him. This sharp change in

Jam-Packing The Room With Sound Analysis
The beginning of this poem is about how much the speaker likes loud music. For example the speaker
says the speakers throbbing which means the music from the speaker has a strong rhythm. This is an
Aural imagery. Jam packing the room with sound whether Bach or rock and roll means to crowd to
capacity the room with sound. Another phrase is the volume cranked up so each bass notes is like a
hand smacking the gut which means you feel the beat in your guts. Again this is a aural image. This

The Issue Of Healthcare Fraud And Abuse
The purpose of this paper is to bring awareness to the issue of healthcare fraud and abuse. I feel that
healthcare fraud and abuse is one of the biggest issues in healthcare. So, this paper will get everyone
to be able to spot fraud before it happens. During, the process you will be able to identify what a
person organization did that was fraud or how they abused healthcare rules. This paper will explain to
you what exactly healthcare fraud and abuse is and how it affects everyone around us. Throughout this
paper, we will examine 3 different articles related the healthcare fraud and abuse and provide a
summary and analyze them. So, what is healthcare fraud and abuse is, you may ask? When talking
about healthcare fraud and abuse, we are talking about 2 major statutes in the healthcare industry,
Physician Self Referral (Stark) Law and AKS (Anti Kickback Statutes). These laws apply to many
practices and procedures within organizations and can be manipulated to benefit an organization
financially. The Physician Self Referral Law prohibits entities from presenting a claim to anyone for
healthcare services for a service not rendered and it also prohibits a physician for creating a referral
for services that are designated but are not rendered. AKS prohibits anyone from offering a kickback,
paying a kickback, or receiving a kickback in return for the delivery of health care services. However,
the AKS encourages referrals based on monetary rewards to the primary source rather than

Marijuana Laws Restrict The Growth And Use Of Marijuana
Marijuana is the dried leaves and female flowers of the hemp plant, used in cigarette form as [a]
narcotic or hallucinogen. ( Marijuana ) In the 17th century, marijuana production was encouraged and
supported by U.S. legislation. Later, during the 19th century,[marijuana] use became a fad in France
and also, to some extent, in the U.S. ( Marijuana Timeline ). During the 1920 s and 1930 s, the drug
raised fears linked with illegal immigrants and criminal activity. ( Marijuana Timeline ). Then, during
World War II, cannabis regained its popularity and support as Hemp for Victory ( Marijuana Timeline
). In the following years, the federal government created laws restricting the growth and use of
marijuana. Specifically, drug ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After extensive research on both sides of the issue, I believe marijuana should remain illegal in the
United States.
Some people believe that through the legalization of marijuana, our nation s tax revenue will
significantly increase. On the contrary, like many other drugs, such as alcohol and tobacco, taxation of
the drug will cost the nation money. For example, as stated by Marty Nemko, a psychologist and
career coach, knowledgeable on the effects of legal marijuana, states that legal pot does not yield tax
dollars, it costs tax dollars (Nemko). As with the taxation of alcohol and tobacco, tax dollars are not
increased as commonly thought due to the cost of dealing with addiction, driving under the influence,
and domestic abuse or illness. (Miller) Likewise, if marijuana were legalized, its accessibility would
cause a total loss in tax revenue. The Drug Abuse Resistance Education estimates legalization...[of
marijuana] would bring with it additional substance abuse in [states] and long term public costs... that
would vastly exceed the ... amount of new revenue legal weed might import. (Miller) The California
Board of Equalization estimates that treating the taxation of marijuana like alcohol or cigarettes would
result in a tax revenue increase of a dollar while the nation would be spending $8.95 for treatment of
marijuana drug abuse related cases (Miller) Since, the taxation of legal marijuana

Compare And Contrast Macbeth And Jocasta
In both Oedipus the King and Macbeth, Shakespeare and Sophocles demonstrate how Jocasta and
Lady Macbeth are very similar and at the same time very different. After Jocasta and Lady Macbeth
heard their husbands prophecies, their lives were changed. Jocasta and Lady Macbeth both take action
and both kill themselves as a consequence. What differentiates these women is the motives behind
their actions.
Although Jocasta does not believe in oracles or prophecies, she does act against them, then, later on,
tries to convince Oedipus that prophecies mean nothing. In the other hand, Lady Macbeth believes in
prophecies and acts to make it a reality by convincing her husband, Macbeth, to kill so that he might

Here she uses the expression full [of the] milk , meaning she believed he was too innocent, righteous

Macbeth was not capable of committing a crime, she acted as his guidance and corrupts him by

For Maximum Productivity And Employee Satisfaction In The
For maximum productivity and employee satisfaction in the workplace, employers should employ

employee selection principles and techniques, psychological testing, and working conditions. Before
we apply these theories or techniques to the Grenadian workplace, we will describe them briefly as to

Cognitive tests will vary to correlate with the requirement of a position; however, they measure
critical thinking and problem solving skills, and a person s ability to learn, apply and comprehend new
information. Personality tests is usually based on a model which describes the different personality
dimensions and calculates where an individual stand. For example, a person who wishes to be in law
enforcement is screened for traits such as impulse control, stress tolerance, courage, and judgement
under pressure. Research supports the use of personality tests in addition to cognitive ability measures
where both are valid predictors of job performance (Bobko et. al., 1999; Sackett Ellingson, 1997;
Schmitt et. al.,1997). Psychological evaluations before employment can rationalize the hiring process
which results in making more informed decisions. Unfortunately, working conditions in Grenada is
poor in many organizations. Many organizations lack proper ventilation and lighting. The wages are
low in comparison to the work load, employees are not paid for overtime nor is employee appraisal
given. Jobs may be too complicated or too simple for some employees. These and other factors are
common in the Grenadian workplace society. This decreases productivity because employees do not

Analyzing Dna Matches From Identical Twins And Other...
Each person s genome apart from identical twins or other multiple births is distinct because of
variations in allele frequencies which cause chromosomes to have certain genotypes. This indicates
that when the DNA found at a crime location matches a person s, the individual is the culprit of the
crime; however, finalizing a case is not this elementary. The evidence collected from a scene does not
show the person s entire genome. While it can certainly point to suspects whose DNA matches the
samples collected from the scene, it does not secure a definite criminal. Analyzing DNA requires
understanding of a few complex fundamentals, but probability paired with statistical reasoning
provides for a more accurate approach in assessing DNA matches. Humans each have 23 pairs of
chromosomes that have similar sequences since they are analogous in gene chronology. They are not
identical, though, because one chromosome is composed of alleles of a gene from one parent, and one
chromosome is composed of alleles from the other (Dawid and Thomas). Short tandem repeats, or
brief recurring patterns, take place at particular positions in all DNA sequences, variation occurring
due to the differing number of repeats from person to person (Dawid and Thomas). DNA profiles
select certain positions of the human genome and record the number of short tandem repeats that
appear there for each DNA sample being analyzed (which in a court case would be the suspect s
profile and the profile from the

Poverty and crime has a relationship that goes hand in hand and have been portrayed by specialists
from all fields, from sociologists to market analysts. Today, the legislature is attempting to manage
poverty and confront the issues of criminal activities as they attempt to build up their nation s
economy and society. Beginning from the 1970s, researchers in the US pointed increasingly at the
connection between unemployment, crime, and destitution (Steinbuch, 2013). An assortment of social,
financial, and mental components may bring about dangerous practices, for example, armed robbery.

This has many advantages, such as the fact that double fertilization guarantees that the endosperm will
develop only in ovules where the egg has been fertilized. It also avoids angiosperms from wasting
nutrients. 13. Explain how fertilization in animals is similar to that in plants.
 Fertilization in animals is similar to that in plants because its first cellcell change occurs after
gamete fusion rises in the cytoplasmic Ca2+ levels as it does in animal gamete fusion. Also, the plants
make a block to polyspermy, which is the fertilization of an egg by more than one sperm cell, as do
the animal s cell s eggs. 14. Describe the fate of the ovule and ovary after double fertilization. Note
where major nutrients are stored as the embryo develops.
 After double fertilization, the ovule matures into a seed, and the ovary matures into a fruit
encircling the seed. As the embryo grows the seed stores proteins, oils, and starch. 15. Describe the
development and function of the endosperm. Distinguish between liquid endosperm and solid
endosperm.
 After embryo development, endosperm is growth to store nutrients. This happens after double
fertilization, when the triploid nucleus of the ovule s central cell divides. This causes the formation of
a milky multinucleate supercell . This becomes multicellular after cytokinesis. Finally, when the cell
walls are completed, the endosperm becomes solid. 16. Describe the development of

The Era Of World War I Essay
When Cubism reached its glorious grasp around 1907 1914, the World was in a wild place. With the
Ottoman Empire losing power; European influences were becoming avaricious for more, eventually
leading to the start of World War I. On the other side of the world we had America rising as a global
supremacy, creating its way to a worldly control. Because of these chaotic matters, society was
shifting towards a new direction. The Art World with its artists and writers also responded to this
conversion as well. The destruction and cruelty of War altered the lives of several European artists,
brought an end to several art movements, and gave light to other movements and brought them to
importance. Obviously the artists effected by the war had their work influenced by it but the early
decades of the twentieth century gave birth to groundbreaking movements and styles, out of which
Cubism (1908 12) was the most rational of all the Avant Grade movements. It excluded the idea of
linear perspective in favor of grander prominence on the two dimensional picture plane, scandalizing
the arts academics of Europe along the visitors of Parisian Salon des Independants and the New York
Armory Show (1913) in the process
With the invention of Photography, and it becoming widespread, the artists felt that they were being
replaced by this creation because artists, after all, were intended to create paintings/sculptures that
were realistic. The camera could do that in mere seconds and perfectly.

The Paris Climate Conference ( European Commission )
The Paris climate conference was held in December and 195 countries participated in an agreement
pertaining to climate change. This agreement is global and is expected to be put into plan in 2020. The
main goal of this conference was to develop a plan to have countries participate in trying to bring
global warming down to 2°C (European Commission, 2016). Like every other agreement that has had
an impact on the world s decisions there is both supporters and critics which results in the pros and
cons of the development of the plan. There are justifiably arguments on each side and there is no right
answer until the plan goes into full effect in 2020. Therefore, the issue of climate change is not going
anywhere anytime soon. The deal is said to be a major win for the global community and is the first
ever truly global climate deal (European Commission, 2016). One very positive outcome of the Paris
agreement is that all countries pledged to limit temperature increase to 1.5 degrees. This is one step
closer to fixing this serious environmental problem. Considering, since 1880 the temperature of earth
has risen 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit, the arctic ice minimum decreased 13.4 percent per decade. (NASA,
2016) Another positive outcome from the agreement is that 185 countries have written up a plan to
reduce their emissions, a gas that traps heat in the atmosphere also known as greenhouse gases. Some
countries like the United States and the nations of the European Union promised to

The Power Of Obedience In Max Weber s Legal-Rational...
Max Weber presents an ideal type of authority which is the foundation of our modern civilization. He
believes this is a legal rational authority and is based on a belief in the legitimacy of the pattern of
normative rules and the rights of those elevated to authority under such rules to issue commands
(Stillman, 2010). Obedience is owed to a legally established set of rules rather than a person. His
vision sets the power in the office rather than the person who occupies the office. In addition, he
claims anyone can rule as long as they come to office according to the rules. Weber was very adamant
about following rules and not varying from them. To him, this created order and ensured success.
However, I do not believe all rules should be strictly followed and never deviated from. Giving a
person the power of discretion allows for interoperation of rules in a manner that applies to the
situation. There will never be a set of rules that follows all situations exactly and so discretion should
be used when needed. When Max Weber wrote his principles, he could have never imagined the
amount of technology we have available today. The use of computers allows us to have more access to
information than ever before. It is also quickly accessible and can provide a great benefit to decision
making. The productivity that one could use with the help of a computer eliminates the need for many
people to work together. This gives a person more power, and allows them to make

Dave is selling illegal drugs out of his house. One day while patrolling the neighborhood, the officer
sees Dave walking down the street. The officer approaches Dave and tells him he is worried about him
and asks permission to search his house. Dave asks the officer if he must allow him to search his
house. The officer responds by telling Dave that if he doesn t, he will go attempt to get a search

finds over one hundred baggies of drugs. The first question is, Did the officer violate any of Dave s
constructional rights? The according to the Legal Information Institute (2017) the Fourth Amendments

Was the officer misleading by the way he worded his concerns to Dave? Some would say yes, because
full disclosure of his concerns was not established. Dave did not have to give consent. Dave could

given Dave enough time to destroy possible evidence which would allowed the officer to proceed with

Perfect Octave-Personal Narrative
So I am not going lie. I have never been to a concert but I will be talking about a life changing event I
had with music in this essay. I would have to say life as a whole can be perfect and will have it ups
and downs no matter where you see you it. But for this paper I would have to start in school. Like any
other day I would have to say, it s like a Tuesday or maybe a Wednesday, but we as a class were going
into the studio. As we enter you talk about having a deeper relationship with the song and not just
saying oh that so good or oh god that was perfect . There s other ways of saying that and even a deeper
way of saying of that was a perfect Octave. But after each song play there will be some kind of feeling
being left.
Music is the one thing in this world that we all share if we like it or not. We won t all ways have the
same taste but there enough to be shared and show. Music is a vocal or instrumental sounds (or both)
combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. And if
you have that kind of feeling into your music then what is the point of having it. Music can make you

Socialism Vs Capitalism
Something is wrong with capitalism... There must be a better distribution of wealth, and maybe
America must move toward Democratic Socialism Martin Luther King Jr.
Can a society with both billionaires and in work poverty really be considered successful?
Do you ever feel like you are underpaid at work? Is it too challenging to even find a job? Do you
disapprove of the great divide between the rich and the poor? Do you care about protecting the lives of
women and racial minorities? Do you care about protecting the environment for future generations?
These are the issues that Socialists care about most deeply. Come join us as we fight for liberty!
It is a fact that our current society is built upon profit. Socialists argue that this profit comes from the
produce of the workers. For example, if a worker builds a table out of wood, the value of the table is
equivalent to the labor that the worker puts in, plus the labor necessary to get the refined pieces of
wood to the worker. This theory, dubbed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, Socialists wish to construct a society in which the profit motive is gone, and in which
society as a whole democratically plans the economy. Money will be replaced with labor vouchers,
bosses by workers councils, and shops with communal stores wherein proceeds of labor are exchanged
for vouchers. The traditional profit driven capitalist firm , along with class society, will be entirely
vanquished. Socialists understand that revolution is necessary to put the working enterprises into the
hands of the workers on a mass scale.
We suggest that you join the Party for Socialism and Liberation (http://www.pslweb.org/about), as
they are currently the most popular Socialist party in the United States. The Principles of Communism

Tv s Influence On African American Culture
The influence of television in regards to race relations in society has always been very real and
powerful. Throughout the 1950 s to the 1980 s, the television shows in America depicted the African
American experience in unique and different ways that were either a step forward, or two steps
backwards in the fight for equality. First of all, the show Amos n Andy, was a very conflicting show to
people in America because it was funny and well written, but every black character on the show was
either a clown or a crook. What this means is that millions of white Americans around the country
were watching this show whenever it was on and all they saw on the TV was black people being
clowns (acting stupid) or crooks (stealing or getting in trouble). ... Show more content on

The most popular TV shows were able to completely sway the minds of people on a certain social
topic, and they had the ability to either accurately or inaccurately depict the black culture. A lot of the
time it depended on if they wanted to get a bunch of ratings and money, or if the show wanted to make
a major impact on society. The shows that just wanted money didn t actually display the real life
scenarios that blacks went through living in the hood with absolutely no money and being treated
poorly. This is because it made the white people look like the bad guys and why would any of them
come back consistently to watch a show that made them feel guilty? The shows that just wanted to
make a point to society were the ones that got canceled quickly but made the biggest impact. Shows
like East Side West Side, Roots, All in the Family. All of these shows were unique in their ability to
actually succeed in both goals. They were able to bring in big ratings every single time it was played,
but they were also able to make some people stop and reconsider the morals and understandings of
society in America at the time. I think that without shows such as the previous ones mentioned, the
civil rights movement may have been different. Obviously the movement could still have been done
successfully without the influence of television, but

Review on How the Amygdala s Emotional Function can Affect Sufferers of Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a relevant common mental disorder as it may affect
approximately 2 3% of the population at any point (Green, 2003). There are numerous literatures on
how a capacious amount of traumatic stress can affect the function of the brain, as the remembrance of
a traumatic experience can affect attention and memory in the present which may lead to present day
harm (Van der Kolk, 2006). Approximately thirty percent of individuals can develop PTSD following
a traumatic event, however, certain events have higher rates (such as rape) (Acierno et al., 1999, cited
in Elzinger and Bremner, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Johnson et al (2012) claims that the pathology of PTSD, is the natural response of threat reaction is
heightened and fails to decrease and thus becomes an issue to an individual s psychological and
physical well being. This follows on from Van der Kolk (2006) who stated that regions in the brain
that accesses the memory of an event also supports intense emotion which affects sensory and motor
functions within the Central Nervous System (CNS). This literature suggests that although PTSD is
classed as anxiety, it is the memory involvement in which causes the physical stress reaction.
Praag (2004) theorised that a sufferer of PTSD cannot easily erase memories of a certain stressful
trauma. This follows on from Liberzon et al s (1999) study that the repetitious memory recall of a
traumatic episode is a symptom of PTSD. This dysfunction of Memory involves certain brain regions,
including the amygdaloidal complex and hippocampal formation. In Liberzon et al s study on 11
control subjects and 14 combat veterans diagnosed with PTSD, placing them in stressful situations
using a single photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT) machine found activation in the
left amygdala on the PTSD sufferers but not with the control subjects. This suggests that the amygdala
responds to unpleasant stimuli in individuals suffering with memories of a past traumatic episode.

America s Changing Foreign Policy
The Monroe Doctrine was an assertion of President James Monroe regarding U.S. foreign policy in
1823. In the Doctrine, the President denounced European powers any further attempt to colonize and
exploit Latin American countries, while promising not to interfere any existing European colonies in
the Americas. The Monroe Doctrine was one of the greatest turning points in American foreign policy
as it marked the beginning of America s rapid development as a world power. Over the past two
hundred years of history, the meaning of the Monroe Doctrine had been altered multiple times in order
to suit America s changing foreign policy. For example, in the 1840s, President James Polk used the
Monroe Doctrine as an excuse to annex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, after the defeat of Napoleon in September 1815, three European nations Austrian Empire,
Prussia, and Russia formed the Holy Alliance, also known as the Grand Alliance, to endorse and
strengthen monarchism. The rapid growth of monarchy in Europe in the 1810s greatly threatened the
United States and its democratic political structure. Amid such a crisis, the United States, under the
leadership of President Monroe, issued the Monroe Doctrine in 1823 without hesitance. This action
suggested the braveness of the young United States as a nation in defending democracy and fighting
the growing imperialism of powerful European countries. In addition to the threat of the reviving
European monarchism, the isolationism endorsed by President Washington was also a driving force of
the Monroe Doctrine. In 1796, in President Washington s Farewell Address, he warned the United
States of the danger to ally with foreign countries. The Monroe Doctrine implemented ideas
mentioned in the Farewell Address by drawing an invisible line between the Americas and the Eastern
hemisphere, freeing the U.S. from any possible political alliance with foreign countries. In the

Kant Dualism
Immanuel Kant (1724 1804) is the central figure in modern philosophy. He synthesized early modern
rationalism and empiricism, set the terms for much of the nineteenth and twentieth century
philosophy, and continues to exercise a significant influence today in metaphysics, epistemology,
ethics, political philosophy, aesthetics, and other fields. Kant was involved in the crisis of the
enlightenment. Enlightenment is about thinking for oneself rather than letting others think for you. It
was to replace traditional authorities with the authority of individual human reason, but it was not
about overturning traditional moral and religious beliefs. (Stanford.edu, 2010)

Ethics is the area of philosophy that has to do with how to live in the world. Hardly any area of
philosophy is more directly applicable to real life than ethics, because it deals with the kinds of
decisions we have to make both in the long and short term. There are two basic perspectives of ethics,
Act based approaches to ethics predictably focus on doing what we should or should not do, how we
should act. Virtue based ethics, as it is called, is more focused on things like character, motives, and
true happiness rather than on whether specific actions are right or wrong. Also there are at least three
different kinds of act based approaches to ethics, duty based ethics, utilitarianism, and Egoist. The
problem with all ethical theories is the complexity of life. Life is filled with no win situations.

Classical Criminology Essay
Classical Criminology
The classical school of criminology was around in the eighteenth century. It came abount in a time
when the previous dominent spiritual look at defining crime and criminal behaviour was being
challenged by a newer naturalistic approach of the social contract theorists.
The classical school was the established ideas of monarchs, fedual lords and the fathers of the church.
The main pioneers of the classical school were Cesar Beccaria ( 1738 1974) from Italy and Jeremy
Bantham from Britain (1948 1832). From them writing their theories in the eighteenth century they

do something at the expence of someone we should be able to own up and take responsibilty for our
own actions. Also they believed that punishment was a good way to show potential offenders what
would happen to them if they behaved in a criminal way. They believed that anyone who breaks the
law should be punished to pay the price. They thought that the crime and he punishment must be
linked. They believed that the punishment should be in proportian to the crime in order for the
offender to think about what he has done. for example, if someone is caught steeling 3000 pounds,
then he should be made to pay back 4000 pound fine back. Or stay in prison for the same ammount of
time that the person would have taken to earn the 3000 pounds. Cesear Beccaria believed that there
should be a fixed punishment for crimes written into the law and not be changed. He believed that all
people should be trated equally and the punishments should not be changed from person to person. His
theory can be summerised into the following 13 propositions (taken from an 2nd edition introduction
into criminogical theory by Roger Hopkins Burke). 1) In order to escape social chaos, each member of

  • 2. L.A. Gang Member by Sanyika Shakur Essay example L.A. Gang Member by Sanyika Shakur Kody Scott grew up in South Central L.A. during the nineteen sixties and seventies, soon after the creation of the Crips. Raised in poverty without a father, and a full family raised solely by his mother, Kody Scott led the stereotypical ghetto life, a poor and broken home. However he does not blame this on his own personal decision to join the Crips while only eleven year s old. The allure of the respect and glory that bangers got, along with the unity of the set (name for the specific gang) is what drew him into the gang. Once joined, he vowed to stay in the set for life, and claimed that banging was his life. After many years of still believing this, he eventually realized that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, once out of prison for a while, he knew that this wasn t possible in the real world, like it was in prison. He now had to make a choice. Once in Prison again, after a failed attempt at gang unity, he realized that the Afrikan race as a whole along with his newfound responsibility to his family(wife and kids), was more important than the set , and that he would now leave the set and the gang life. However this was no easy task, as most who attempt to leave the set don t succeed or die trying. It took him a whole three years to leave the Crips. He now, however, unlike before, realized that a banging was wrong for more than just the black on black crime and such, but that it was a matter of morals and family, and he now no longer took pride in his past actions, but still took responsibility for them(page 357). Once out of prison again, he was now out of the set and could start a more normal life with his family and with a real paying job. He was still however part of the New Afrikan Independence Movement, and also devoted to stopping the causes of gangsterism(page 377). This complete turnaround in his life and new devotion, is the purpose of the book he wrote. At the start of the book he tells of how he joined the gang and why. He also tells of all of his glory stories and how much he enjoyed banging. However as the book slowly progresses, he starts to mature and to develop mentally. Until toward the end of the book, in ... Chapter three will describe the methodology selected for an applied dissertation study, the participants, research design, instruments, data collection procedures, and limitations informing the research. The purpose of the proposed study is to determine the effectiveness of the i Ready® computer based reading program used at a Title I school in a large urban district for relationship to increases of student reading achievement. i Ready® is an interactive computer based instructional program designed to accelerate reading and language skills at the host school. According to Curriculum Associates (2014,) i Ready® combines assessment and individualized instruction in a single web based format ensuring accessibility anywhere a computer or tablet with internet access is available. i Ready® screens all students for reading difficulties by first requiring students to take a computerized diagnostic test to determine a personal i Ready® ability level. Thus, the diagnostic can monitor individual performance throughout primary and secondary education by analyzing specific needs for students. The adaptive technology analyzes test response patterns to derive information in order to pinpoint needs more efficiently than traditional fixed form testing methods. The i Ready program was designed in 2013 to meet the growing demands of the Common Core State Standards, which was adopted prior to the Florida State Standards. • 4. The Pros And Cons Of Military Peacekeeping for the purposes of this study, is broadly defined, so it may encompass not only the UN, but also other relevant organizations to the peacekeeping mission, including the soldier s home state s military. Peacekeepers may find actions prohibited by the UN as sexual misconduct are culturally acceptable in his or her home state. Cultural beliefs are considered the compendium of acts that are considered acceptable by a group of people on which an individual bases his or her actions. The gendered understanding of sexual misconduct as a value reflects the UN s official view on sexual relations between peacekeepers and the local population. These relationships reflect a distorted power dynamic that can be damaging to the organization, the victim, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Any given mission may have unique characteristics regarding the conflict, mandate, and beneficiary local population. However, only one mission will be considered, given the logistical constraints of collecting detailed information in many different locations. Despite this constraint, a large enough sample will reveal if peacekeeping soldiers are having difficulty resolving value conflicts concerning SEAs. Interviews will be conducted after pre deployment training. This will allow all soldiers to be similarly exposed to the consequences of sexual misconduct and informed about the gendered perspective concerning sexual misconduct. While training may vary, the UN produces the guidelines centrally. Prior to all interviews, demographic data that may be helpful in the analysis will be collected, including Gender Identification, Nationality, Age, and Rank. All interviewees will be approved for participation by his or her commanding officer as well as the head of the mission. All records of the interviews will be subject for review and elimination at the request of the head of the mission, the commanding officer, and the interviewee at any time. All interviews are confidential, but anonymized excerpts may be published, at the approval of the all of the aforementioned entities. At any time during an interview, a participant may leave and/or refuse to have his or her data used in the study. This right to refuse to participate is communicated in writing and orally both at the beginning of the interview and at the debriefing following the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Plebeians Underdogs Plebeians; The Underdogs of Rome There are multiple reasons why the Plebeians were important to Rome. They were the farmers, the tradesmen, and the soldiers. They did the brunt of the work. They were also the majority of Roman citizens. I will attempt to explain why the Plebeians were so important. Who were the Plebeians? What was their role in Rome? What occupation did they hold? How many of them were there? All important questions. The Plebeians were members of the general citizenry in ancient Rome as opposed to the privileged patrician class (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica., 2014). They were either conquered people who came to live in Rome and eventually became Romans, or people who sought refuge in Rome from political, criminal, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You do all the hard labor at work, but your boss gets the promotion? You study harder and get better grades, yet you can t go to college and that rich kid with a C average can? The Plebeians were underdogs, not appreciated until they were gone, the majority who were drowned out by the minority. Many of us can understand that. We have all been in the position of being the underdog, the one who did it all and never got the credit. Perhaps that is why, in history, the Plebeians are painted as victims and Patricians as power hungry, greedy noblemen. We feel like we can relate to them, and we do not feel we can relate to the Patricians. That makes me wonder, are we all just Plebeians, being controlled by a select few individuals who are lucky enough to be born into success or are we all Patricians, oppressing another group of people while believing we are the ... • 6. Solving White Tailed Deer With Hunting And Sterilization Samantha Shields 952673863 ENGL 030 001 Dr. Aaron Mauro 3 December 2014 Solving White Tailed Deer Overabundance With Hunting and Sterilization In the past few decades, white tailed deer populations in North America have increased drastically. Due to some relief in predation in correlation with changes in the environment deer populations in many zones meet or exceed 10 deer per square kilometer, which is a much higher ratio than in the 1960 s and 1970 s (Côté 116). With an overabundance of deer, many problems arise; the diversity and success of habitats decline, agriculture suffers, more deer vehicle collisions occur, and quite a few more issues appear. In order to maintain a healthy number of deer and reduce these issues, deer populations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An abundance of deer initially seems to indicate healthy habitats and flourishing wildlife; however, overabundance actually leads to severe problems for ecosystems. One of the reasons deer populations have been able to grow so exponentially is because many forested suburban areas allow for deer habitats with low risk of predation (Boulanger 174). In correlation with their suburban living, overpopulated deer end up crossing more roads and highways, posing as more pressing issues towards automobiles and trains and causing more frequent collisions. Next, and quite obviously, overabundance creates overcrowding in habitats. Less apparent, however, is the idea that with increased browsing of new tree seedlings, overpopulated deer decrease species diversity in forests and reduce tree growth, which leads to a lack of protection from erosion and floods (Côté 117). Deer also forage selectively, meaning certain species of plant will be eaten more frequently than others, often resulting in less diversity, ground coverage, and competition between plants (Côté 124). This, in turn, makes ecosystems less suitable to other species, in particular the foliage. • 7. Seven Approaches to Studying the Human Body Essay When studying the human body, there are seven organizational approaches. Each approach studies the body in a different yet unique way and is used in the health care field. The approaches consist of; body planes and directions, body cavities, quadrants and regions, anatomy and physiology, microscopic and macroscopic, body systems and medical specialties. There are three body planes which use different directions: coronal, sagittal, and transverse planes. Coronal plane slices the body from head to toe giving a front and back view. There are two directions that are related with it; anterior posterior, moving from the outside of the body through the anterior part then the posterior section, and posterior anterior, which is its reverse. ... According to Degreedirectory.org (1999), anatomy studies the structure of organs and cells. Since cells are a microscopic size the best way to study, using this approach is with a microscope, which is, a tool used to examine cells. Physiology is the study of the function of organ and cells. Organs are of a macroscopic size that means it can be seen with the naked eye. These approaches can be used in many ways in health care. An orthopedic would study muscles and tendons or an immunologist would study blood cells using a microscope. The human body is made up of several different types of systems. This means that each system is made up of a few organs, which synchronize with one another and work as a unit. Organs are unable to perform without the help of the other organs in their unit. All of the organs support one another to perform their functions. The gastrointestinal system breaks down the foods we eat into protein, vitamins, fats and carbohydrates, which is used for energy, growth and repair. The organs in the respiratory system are the nose, trachea and lungs. These organs help bring air into the body and eliminate the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Analyzing Dna Matches From Identical Twins And Other... Each person s genome apart from identical twins or other multiple births is distinct because of variations in allele frequencies which cause chromosomes to have certain genotypes. This indicates that when the DNA found at a crime location matches a person s, the individual is the culprit of the crime; however, finalizing a case is not this elementary. The evidence collected from a scene does not show the person s entire genome. While it can certainly point to suspects whose DNA matches the samples collected from the scene, it does not secure a definite criminal. Analyzing DNA requires understanding of a few complex fundamentals, but probability paired with statistical reasoning provides for a more accurate approach in assessing DNA matches. Humans each have 23 pairs of chromosomes that have similar sequences since they are analogous in gene chronology. They are not identical, though, because one chromosome is composed of alleles of a gene from one parent, and one chromosome is composed of alleles from the other (Dawid and Thomas). Short tandem repeats, or brief recurring patterns, take place at particular positions in all DNA sequences, variation occurring due to the differing number of repeats from person to person (Dawid and Thomas). DNA profiles select certain positions of the human genome and record the number of short tandem repeats that appear there for each DNA sample being analyzed (which in a court case would be the suspect s profile and the profile from the ... With the Ottoman Empire losing power; European influences were becoming avaricious for more, eventually leading to the start of World War I. On the other side of the world we had America rising as a global supremacy, creating its way to a worldly control. Because of these chaotic matters, society was shifting towards a new direction. The Art World with its artists and writers also responded to this conversion as well. The destruction and cruelty of War altered the lives of several European artists, brought an end to several art movements, and gave light to other movements and brought them to importance. • 25. The Power Of Obedience In Max Weber s Legal-Rational... Max Weber presents an ideal type of authority which is the foundation of our modern civilization. He believes this is a legal rational authority and is based on a belief in the legitimacy of the pattern of normative rules and the rights of those elevated to authority under such rules to issue commands (Stillman, 2010). Obedience is owed to a legally established set of rules rather than a person. His vision sets the power in the office rather than the person who occupies the office. In addition, he claims anyone can rule as long as they come to office according to the rules. Weber was very adamant about following rules and not varying from them. To him, this created order and ensured success. However, I do not believe all rules should be strictly followed and never deviated from. Giving a person the power of discretion allows for interoperation of rules in a manner that applies to the situation. There will never be a set of rules that follows all situations exactly and so discretion should be used when needed. When Max Weber wrote his principles, he could have never imagined the amount of technology we have available today. The use of computers allows us to have more access to information than ever before. It is also quickly accessible and can provide a great benefit to decision making. The productivity that one could use with the help of a computer eliminates the need for many people to work together. • 30. Tv s Influence On African American Culture The influence of television in regards to race relations in society has always been very real and powerful. Throughout the 1950 s to the 1980 s, the television shows in America depicted the African American experience in unique and different ways that were either a step forward, or two steps backwards in the fight for equality. First of all, the show Amos n Andy, was a very conflicting show to people in America because it was funny and well written, but every black character on the show was either a clown or a crook. What this means is that millions of white Americans around the country were watching this show whenever it was on and all they saw on the TV was black people being clowns (acting stupid) or crooks (stealing or getting in trouble). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most popular TV shows were able to completely sway the minds of people on a certain social topic, and they had the ability to either accurately or inaccurately depict the black culture. A lot of the time it depended on if they wanted to get a bunch of ratings and money, or if the show wanted to make a major impact on society. The shows that just wanted money didn t actually display the real life scenarios that blacks went through living in the hood with absolutely no money and being treated poorly. This is because it made the white people look like the bad guys and why would any of them come back consistently to watch a show that made them feel guilty? The shows that just wanted to make a point to society were the ones that got canceled quickly but made the biggest impact. Shows like East Side West Side, Roots, All in the Family. All of these shows were unique in their ability to actually succeed in both goals. They were able to bring in big ratings every single time it was played, but they were also able to make some people stop and reconsider the morals and understandings of society in America at the time. I think that without shows such as the previous ones mentioned, the civil rights movement may have been different. Obviously the movement could still have been done successfully without the influence of television, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Review on How the Amygdala s Emotional Function can Affect Sufferers of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a relevant common mental disorder as it may affect approximately 2 3% of the population at any point (Green, 2003). There are numerous literatures on how a capacious amount of traumatic stress can affect the function of the brain, as the remembrance of a traumatic experience can affect attention and memory in the present which may lead to present day harm (Van der Kolk, 2006). Approximately thirty percent of individuals can develop PTSD following a traumatic event, however, certain events have higher rates (such as rape) (Acierno et al., 1999, cited in Elzinger and Bremner, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Johnson et al (2012) claims that the pathology of PTSD, is the natural response of threat reaction is heightened and fails to decrease and thus becomes an issue to an individual s psychological and physical well being. This follows on from Van der Kolk (2006) who stated that regions in the brain that accesses the memory of an event also supports intense emotion which affects sensory and motor functions within the Central Nervous System (CNS). This literature suggests that although PTSD is classed as anxiety, it is the memory involvement in which causes the physical stress reaction. Praag (2004) theorised that a sufferer of PTSD cannot easily erase memories of a certain stressful trauma. This follows on from Liberzon et al s (1999) study that the repetitious memory recall of a traumatic episode is a symptom of PTSD. This dysfunction of Memory involves certain brain regions, including the amygdaloidal complex and hippocampal formation. In Liberzon et al s study on 11 control subjects and 14 combat veterans diagnosed with PTSD, placing them in stressful situations using a single photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT) machine found activation in the left amygdala on the PTSD sufferers but not with the control subjects. This suggests that the amygdala responds to unpleasant stimuli in individuals suffering with memories of a past traumatic episode. Other brain imaging studies have found a link between encoding ... • 34. America s Changing Foreign Policy The Monroe Doctrine was an assertion of President James Monroe regarding U.S. foreign policy in 1823. In the Doctrine, the President denounced European powers any further attempt to colonize and exploit Latin American countries, while promising not to interfere any existing European colonies in the Americas. The Monroe Doctrine was one of the greatest turning points in American foreign policy as it marked the beginning of America s rapid development as a world power. Over the past two hundred years of history, the meaning of the Monroe Doctrine had been altered multiple times in order to suit America s changing foreign policy. In addition, after the defeat of Napoleon in September 1815, three European nations Austrian Empire, Prussia, and Russia formed the Holy Alliance, also known as the Grand Alliance, to endorse and strengthen monarchism. The rapid growth of monarchy in Europe in the 1810s greatly threatened the United States and its democratic political structure. Amid such a crisis, the United States, under the leadership of President Monroe, issued the Monroe Doctrine in 1823 without hesitance. This action suggested the braveness of the young United States as a nation in defending democracy and fighting the growing imperialism of powerful European countries. In addition to the threat of the reviving European monarchism, the isolationism endorsed by President Washington was also a driving force of the Monroe Doctrine. In 1796, in President Washington s Farewell Address, he warned the United States of the danger to ally with foreign countries. The Monroe Doctrine implemented ideas mentioned in the Farewell Address by drawing an invisible line between the Americas and the Eastern hemisphere, freeing the U.S. from any possible political alliance with foreign countries. He synthesized early modern rationalism and empiricism, set the terms for much of the nineteenth and twentieth century philosophy, and continues to exercise a significant influence today in metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, political philosophy, aesthetics, and other fields. Kant was involved in the crisis of the enlightenment. Enlightenment is about thinking for oneself rather than letting others think for you. Ethics is the area of philosophy that has to do with how to live in the world. Hardly any area of philosophy is more directly applicable to real life than ethics, because it deals with the kinds of decisions we have to make both in the long and short term. There are two basic perspectives of ethics, Act based approaches to ethics predictably focus on doing what we should or should not do, how we should act. Virtue based ethics, as it is called, is more focused on things like character, motives, and true happiness rather than on whether specific actions are right or wrong. Also there are at least three different kinds of act based approaches to ethics, duty based ethics, utilitarianism, and Egoist. The problem with all ethical theories is the complexity of life. Responsibility the classical school believed that if we do something wrong or do something at the expence of someone we should be able to own up and take responsibilty for our own actions. Also they believed that punishment was a good way to show potential offenders what would happen to them if they behaved in a criminal way. They believed that anyone who breaks the law should be punished to pay the price. They thought that the crime and he punishment must be linked. They believed that the punishment should be in proportian to the crime in order for the offender to think about what he has done. for example, if someone is caught steeling 3000 pounds, then he should be made to pay back 4000 pound fine back. Or stay in prison for the same ammount of time that the person would have taken to earn the 3000 pounds. Cesear Beccaria believed that there should be a fixed punishment for crimes written into the law and not be changed. He believed that all people should be trated equally and the punishments should not be changed from person to person. His theory can be summerised into the following 13 propositions (taken from an 2nd edition introduction into criminogical theory by Roger Hopkins Burke). 1) In order to escape social chaos, each member of sociey must sacrifice ...
