The Negative Effects of Job Automization In Zuboffā€™s, ā€œIn...
In Zuboff s, In the Age of the Smart Machine the reader develops a sense of how automation of jobs
can have a negative effect on the employees if implementation of new technology is not done
properly. Both the automation of the mill and the automation of the global bank had some similarities.
Both organizations went from a more oral and action on type of task to more of a data centered task.
We can see this clearly form Zuboff s examples. At the pulp mill, workers were used to making rounds
and checking the pulp consistency, which at that point the workers would make a decision if they need
to open or close a valve. This hands on task transitioned into a more data reading and monitoring task,
which was something that the workers were not specifically trained for. Instead, mill workers had to
be able to read the indicators and know the consistency of the pulp. Like the pulp mill, the global bank
ran into a similar problem. At the global bank, workers communicated with one another and passed
around documents for verification. For example, a clerk would hand a document to a loan approver
with the necessary information and the loan approver would check the documents and make a decision
if the loan should be approved or not. Once the decision is made, the loan approver would hand the
document back to the clerk. In other words, employees used each other to transfer documents through
communication and the physical action. The automation took all the communicating

Compare And Contrast Scouts And Girl Scouts
The Boy Scouts of America and the Girls Scouts of the USA are both nonprofit organizations that can
be the most wonderful experiences in one s life. Being a Boy Scout or Girl Scout can help the youth
develop maturity and character, as they grow with age and enter adulthood. Through the process of
volunteering and showing leadership skills, Boy Scouts of America and Girls Scouts of the USA are
both life changing organizations. One involved in any of the two organizations will create unity
throughout their community and uphold a legacy. While the youth involved in one of the two
organizations earn achievements and countless awards, scouting can be utilized to create an
exceptional college admission resume. Although the Girls Scouts of the ... Show more content on

prove that she s worthy, she will automatically proceed in the organization based upon her grade level.
Another contrast between Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are the most noteworthy honors that a scout can
be awarded. While being in any of these two Scouting organizations, a scout can earn numerous
awards. The highest award that a scout can be presented with, nonetheless, differs between
organizations. In Boy Scouts, the highest achievement a Boy Scout can receive is an Eagle Scout.
Rather than an Eagle Scout being an award, it is the highest position in the rank system. Becoming an
Eagle Scout takes much work and dedication to the organization. One receiving this award will have
to meet several requirements. One must show that they are progressing in the program through their
leadership, service, and outdoor skills (Trail to Eagle). Moreover, in order to become an Eagle Scout, a
Boy Scout must first move forward in the ranking system. Although there are more than 130 merit
badges that a Boy Scout can receive, they must earn 21 to be eligible become an

The Central Park Five Summary
The documentary we had to watch for this week s discussion called The Central Park Five directed by
Ken Burns was eye opening. The movie was about five black and Latino teenagers aged 14 to 16 of
being falsely convicted of attacking and raping a 28 year old white woman in the central park, New
York in 1989. There was lots of miscarriage of justice that occurred in this movie that caught me by
surprise and disappointment me. If this was a woman from Harlem or another poor city, this would not
have been such a big case. In the movie, they talk about the woman being raped and thrown off the
balcony and no one had any issue with that. It was not even public headlines in most newspapers, not
fair how some stories get more popularity over others. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They lied to the 5 teens saying, the other in the group is telling them they did the crime and if they
admit it they can walk out a free man. Manipulating and pressuring the teens to do something or say
something they want to hear is a terrible persona. That is a tough situation for a teen to be in; they are
not used to being locked up for days and being interrogated by the police. In their head, they thought
the only way to get out was by saying something the prosecutor and detective wanted to hear, which
untimely ended up hurting them the most in the trial. I was disappointed in the fact that the teens were
convicted before the trail, I feel as once they walked into the police department the law enforcement
team knew they were going to pin this crime on the teens by any means. This would have been easy
for the public to believe because of the color of their skin and easy to see them as violent

Internet Censorship Libraries Essay
Libaries across the nation are in a dilemma, should they filter what information is available to it s
visitors via the Internet? This scenario is being debated all across the United States. Many states are
arguing over whether or not the library has the authority to limit what information is accessible via the
Internet computers at the library. The argument is over the First Amendment right of Free Speech.
There are family groups who are actually in favor of allowing unfiltered access on the Internet, not
what one would think. These groups also support the notion of parents being with their children while
they are on the Internet, not something that all parents have the luxury of being able to do. Other
groups want the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Public access to the Internet is available at over 50% of the public libraries in the United States.
Library patrons can access the limitless information available that the Internet offers. With this many
libraries allowing access and many more each day adding access a new dilemma has been created. The
dilemma is to support the American Library Associations Bill of Rights and the First Amendment
Right of Free Speech or to limit access to the Internet by censoring or blocking out undesirable
information, and thus going against the right of free speech. On July 2, 1997 the American Library
Association (ALA) adopted a resolution affirming that the use of filtering software by libraries to
block access to constitutionally protected speech violated the Library Bill of Rights. An earlier
statment by the ALA titled Access to Electronic Information, Services and Networks in January of
1996 stated users should not be restricted or denied access for expressing or receiving constitutionally
protected speech.
One would think that this would resolve the libraries dilemma, it did not. Public libraries must answer
to boards, parents and their constituencies and therefore this group of people must support this
decision as well. Libraries have constitutional support as well as professional sanction for open
Internet access. Each library must wrestle with

Characteristics Of Machiavelli
To be an efficient ruler they must possess the ability to project beast like attitude, with this correlated
with this is the justification of a ruler for breaking his word, this idea only applies if doing otherwise
will place a ruler at a disadvantage within his society. These two characteristics are inevitable and
imperative to rulers if they hope to be successful. For a ruler, presentation is key to leading a
successful society. They must learn to be Half man, half beast. Machiavelli points this out in The
Prince through an allegory, Chiron is a centaur who was a teacher to other princes. He demonstrated
the need for rulers to develop both characteristics, that of a man and beast. This idea is essential
because Machiavelli thought of men by nature as deceptive liars, who would take advantage of a ruler
and his power if they sensed a submissive attitude (P.54). This could be a consequence of not
exhibiting that beast like quality, which could later place not only the ruler, but society as a whole at a
disadvantage.
Isaiah Berlin, author of the article A Special Supplement: The Question of Machiavelli , further
justifies this concept by explaining: The pagan world that Machiavelli prefers is built on recognition
of the need for systematic guile and force by rulers, and he seems to think it natural and not at all
exceptional or morally agonizing that they should employ these weapons wherever they are needed
(P.35). Because the book was written in the 16th century when

Litigation Explosion Essay
Litigation Explosion or Epidemic of Injuries In the articles written by Richard L. Abel and Peter W.
Huber both have valid arguments with extremely different viewpoints on the litigation process. Peter
W. Huber feels there is too much litigation in our country to where it cripples our society to become
more successful. Huber feels there is less encouragement for citizens to take matters in their own
hands and take responsibility for their actions. With a rather different perspective Richard L. Abel
feels we have too little litigation rather than too much, he believes that manufacturers products and
services cause this and more litigation is actually needed. Abel feels that all injuries that happen to
individuals should never go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overall even though Huber feels there is too much litigation in our country, having a contract is very
important within the process between individuals. In the opposing article written by Richard L. Abel
he feels there is not enough litigation in our country and it is necessary to have in our legal system.
Abel believes that victims obtain better outcomes in the tort system today then they did in our past.
Tort claims which are successful do not create an accident cost, in fact if proven they shift the cost
from the victims to the tortfeasors. Many accidents and injuries occur in our country from year to year.
Surveys have concluded that everyone will suffer from one serious injury throughout their lifetime in
which they are not likely to recover from the damages because of a tortfeasor. Abel blames all of these
problems on the present tort system we have today, in which he states is an absolute failure. Abel
writes in his article that most scholars believe that tort law is divided up into three basic principal
objectives: redressing the violation of important norms, compensating victims, and discouraging
unsafe behavior. He writes about how most feel litigations which go through the courts these days are
ludicrous and crazy. Also most of the lawsuits which happen are unjust and don?t deserve to be heard
in a court of law. Abel believes that the media is what

My Greatest Accomplishment

the Scout has been active in scouting for years, has performed multiple hours of community service,
has taken on multiple leadership position within the troop, and completed a large project that benefits

FINANCIAL LITERACY
Financial literacy is one of the most important investor basics, especially if you want to be a safe

an investment. Just as a doctor uses X rays to look at your skeletal system, a financial statement

A sophisticated investor reads the numbers to get the true story and begins to see things that the
average investor does not see. A sophisticated investor must see the impact of government regulations,
tax codes, corporate law, business law, and accounting law. One reason it is hard to find accurate
investment information is that to gain a full picture requires financial literacy, an accountant, and an
attorney. In other words, you need two different professionals to get the real picture. The good news is
that if you take your time and invest the time to learn the ins and outs of what goes on behind the
scenes, you will find investment opportunities and great wealth, wealth that very few people ever find.
You will find out the truth about why the rich get richer, and the poor and middle class work harder,

Suppose A Player Averages A 23 Points Per Game
Sports is world of measurement. Let s think of a sport like basketball, to where players attempt to
make baskets. Suppose a player averages a 23 points per game. Is that a good player, a bad player, or s
great player? A good coach will know that base of this limited information it will be impossible to
answer that question. Basketball is more than scoring. Players can block shots, rebound missed shots,
steal the ball, and assist others on scoring. They can also make a number of mistakes that benefit their
opponents. So now if a player averages 23 points, 9 rebounds, 12 assists, and 4 steals per game. Is that
a good player, a bad player, or a great player? A poor coach might be trick on answering that question,
but a good coach will still realize that those statistics measures only certain aspects of effectiveness.

every set of data is sufficient in helping us on making good decision. A good system of metrics needs
to provide information on effectiveness, efficiency, and adaptability. This is just not true in a sport like
basketball. Businesses constantly seek to collect and study data in an effort to make good decision. In
fact, humans are hopelessly addicted to metrics that will aide them in making good decision. What

actions. Performance measurement metrics can actually motivate the behaviors of athletes, employees,

meaning that it had to control at least 80% of Conoco s stock. In addition the split had to be motivated
by a valid business purpose. Also DuPont had to get rid of all Conoco stock so it would not have any
control over the company after the deal was completed. Conoco had to be recapitalized or reorganized
into two classes of common stock. Class A stock that carried one vote each, issued to the public and
Class B stock with five votes each, retained by DuPont for later disbursement to DuPont shareholders

Examples Of Foreshadowing In The Fly Paper Elizabeth Taylor
The fly paper
The Fly paper is a short story by Elizabeth Taylor, an English novelist. It starts as an everyday event
and after a while demonstrates how oppressive the protagonist s seemingly calm day changes to the
darker side. In order to show not only a polite surface, but also an opposite, surface that includes
tension and depressive motives, Elizabeth Taylor virtuously uses foreshadowing. Foreshadowing is
being determined by a hint given in order to understand or predict certain events that will happen later
in the story. It is a great method of using uneven objects / references to demonstrate the future events.
I ve found four examples of foreshadowing in the short story. Elizabeth Taylor is using this technique

In the beginning of unfortunate events that will take place in the house of an old lady, a reader may
observe a foreshadowing in the following sentence: Sylvia followed the woman down a side path to
the back door, trying to push her worries from her mind. . An author is using a pre scene surrounding,
many readers, out of my own observation, did not notice. It is a really questionable moment, why she
decided to go to the back door instead of using a main entrance. Another very interesting moment
where Elizabeth Taylor wisely decided to use a foreshadowing is the end of the short story, when
Sylvia noticed a fly paper located in the house of an old lady: She stared up at a fly paper hanging in
the window the only disconcerting thing in the room. Some of the flies were still half alive, and
striving hopelessly to free themselves. But they were caught forever. . In my opinion, it is one of the
smartest ways to end this story, which was completely shocking to a reader. Here, once again, a fly
represented a young girl, Sylvia, and fly paper represented a trap, house where she decided to go. But
I believe that a fly paper is not just a representation of a house itself, but also of the comfort that
Sylvia tried to get from an old lady. And as she was experiencing a lack of love from her relatives, her
kidnappers idea was to compensate that attention that a poor young

What Is Grounded Theory ( Glaser And Strauss )
1. Method
We use a single case study methodology to focus on a failed IS project implementation. The study
uses grounded theory (Glaser and Strauss 1967; c.f., Charmaz 2013; c.f., Corbin and Strauss 2015) in
its focus on principles of emergence by which systematic generation and conceptualization of data
provides meaning and relevance to concepts (Glaser and Strauss 1967). In accordance with the
recommendations of engaged scholarship by Van de Ven (2007), the project began with the
identification of a research problem identified to be relevant to experienced practitioners in leading
organizations of IT project management. To develop a base understanding of the challenges
experienced in the execution of IT projects, we engaged informally with key industry informants.
Observations made in this stage were used to inform the specific research objectives and question put
forth in the Introduction. Specifically, observations were used as data that was conceptualized based
on theoretical sensitivity in line with grounded theory (Glaser 1978; Strauss and Corbin 1990). Data
complexity was used in the early stages of the research to allow the relevant themes and findings to
emerge from the data and to avoid forcing the data to fit existing theories (Urquhart 2013). The
conceptual development aspect of grounded theory allows us to discover theory from the data and
identify the theories and tenets within that are applicable to IT contexts of interest (Jabareen 2009;

Charles Dickens, author of Great Expectations, provides a perfect example of the hope of class
mobility. The novel portrays very diverse and varied social classes which spread from a diligent,
hardworking peasant (Joe) to a good natured middle class man (Mr. Wemmick) to a rich, beautiful
young girl (Estella). Pip, in particular, elevates in the social pyramid from a common boy to a
gentleman with great expectations. With his rise in society, he also alters his attitude, from being a
caring child to an apathetic gentleman. During this process, Pip learns how he should act and how to
become a real gentleman. Social mobility and wealth, furthermore, carves a disposition and how a

after Pip learns how to be a gentleman, Biddy began to address Pip as Mr. Pip . Also, The Blue Boar, a

room. On the other hand, when he had lost all his riches, the Blue Boar only provided him with an
indifferent room among the pigeons.
Wemmick is considered to be a strange, middle class man, who serves as a clerk for Jaggers. When the
he first meets Wemmick, Pip characterizes Wemmick as an uptight, insensitive man. However, later,
when Pip goes to Wemmick s house he realizes that he is a funny, family friendly man. Given that he
is in the middle class, he is not affected by money. Additionally, he is less concerned about amount of
money he has and just concerns about his father, known as The Aged, and his wife, Miss Skiffins.
In contrast to Wemmick, who can live in a jailhouse and his own middle class home, Estella, another
character in Dickens novel, can only function in an enhanced civilization. She is represented as one of
the higher society since she is adopted by a wealthy, aged woman, Miss Havisham. Ironically, her true
father is a convict and her mother is a servant for Jaggers. Because of her affluence, she treats others,

Causes Of The Secession
The secession of the southern states, which ultimately started the Civil War, was one of the most
gruesome time in American history (Historical Context). It was predicted by the State legislature on
December 20, 1860 that the secession would cause great harm to the government and people. Like
predicted, the secession led to many problems politically, socially, and economically. Why did the
southern states secede if they knew the consequences were going to impact not only the union but
themselves as well?
The secession of the South began when South Carolina declared they were no longer part of the
Union. South Carolina disagreed with the fact of them ever becoming part of the United States in the
start, However, according to Dan Bryan, South Carolina was forced to. It was also went on to say that
any chance, like the election of Abraham Lincoln. That South Carolina had to secede was going to be
taken. November 6, 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected as president, subsequently South Carolina
seceded a month later as promised.
It was believed that the south Seceded because of the election of Abraham Lincoln. However,
according to document seven, The election was not the cause of secession, but it was the last feather
which you know broke the camel s back . Which could possibly mean that the South was tired of
being mistreated by the North. While the election was what gave them the decision to succeed it was
not the causation of secession.

A Dinner At Home Is A Great Experience For People
Having dinner at home is supposed to be a great experience for people: being with families, enjoying
hot soup and eating delicious pork. However, in the article The Diner, Bill Trub represents a dinner
experience which is a little weird to readers. The I returns home and has his dinner in a small
restaurant. During the meal, he sees diners who he cannot recognize behave in a strange manner. For
example, a bearded lady yawns. She s eating meatloaf and mash without a knife or fork. Her name is
Rachel, Denise or Chuck. The town is filled with such people with such three uncertain names.
According to a baby grandfather s words, they are all waiting for and welcoming I , whose name is
Bill, Bill, or Bill here, to get back home. In my eyes, the people there are like savages or walking
bodies. Their identities are unclear and they cannot be recognized by others, while they act as if they
are numb, lacking the ability of thinking. The fiction is like an exaggerated model of the real world
where people are in a tendency to be objectified, and I would like to share my opinions on why it
happens and what it will lead to. Nowadays, money is taking a significant part of people s life. To get
money, lots of people objectify others as if they are tools instead of human beings, and ignore their
basic physical and mental needs. Meanwhile, during the process, they are objectifying themselves

Should A Structured Recess Program Be Increased Aggressive...
The goal of this action research project is to determine if a structured recess program would decrease
aggressive behavior on the playground which in turn would decrease the number of behavior referral
forms that would have to be written. There is a growing problem in our schools; children do not know
how to play during recess time. Children are spending more and more time in front of the television,
video games, or other sedentary non play activities. They are not learning how to play properly with
other children and are coming to school not knowing what to do during their recess (Patrick, 1996). As
they enter school it is now the schools job to teach the students how to correctly interact while playing
at recess. Recess needs to be the fourth R taught in school (Pellegrini, Bohn, 2005). Putting students
on the playground for recess time when they do not know how to play and interact with other students
will only lead to boredom and inappropriate behavior. To avoid these inappropriate behaviors schools
have started to use a more structured recess approach to teach children how to play and interact while
on the playground. The question then becomes what structured recess program to use and will this
program be truly affective?
The first solution would be to start using a structured recess program called Playworks. This is a
system that uses structured games to teach children pro social skills, positive language, and conflict
resolution. Playworks teaches

Software Engineering And Intelligent Systems Essay
INTRODUCTION
Throughout the year I have learnt about many issues in software engineering and intelligent systems
by researching for this report. In this report I will be explaining and discussing these key problems and
some key techniques that can be implemented to overcome these for both software engineering and
intelligent systems.
SOFTWARE ENGINEERING
Software Engineering is the discipline of designing and developing software projects so that they
behave in an efficient and independent manner while meeting the requirement of the client. Some key
problems which arise in software engineering are complexity, inefficient communication and
inadequate testing. Software projects are large and take years to make. In order to reduce the risk of
failure and keep track of problems, software projects must follow the correct methodology.
A methodology is a set of instructions followed in order to develop projects efficiently. In software
engineering, a methodology is a discipline which structures a project strongly so that it will succeed.
Without a strong structure, the project will start to break down and create big problems for software
engineers.
KEY PROBLEMS COMPLEXITY
Software projects are complex and can crash with the slightest errors. Software Engineering projects
take a lot of time and can sometimes take years to code. Some projects are made with over a thousand
lines of code, due to this, the chance of error increases. For example, in 1998, a crew member of the

Anatomy And Physiology Of The Heart Study Guide
I. ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF THE HEART
I. LOCATION OF THE HEART
The heart is located in the chest between the lungs behind the sternum and above the diaphragm. It is
surrounded by the pericardium. Its size is about that of a fist, and its weight is about 250 300 g. Its
center is located about 1.5 cm to the left of the midsagittal plane. Located above the heart are the great
vessels: the superior and inferior vena cava, the pulmonary artery and vein, as well as the aorta. The
aortic arch lies behind the heart. The esophagus and the spine lie further behind the heart.
II. FUNCTIONS OF THE HEART The role of circulation is to: 1. Continuously deliver oxygen,
nutrients, hormones, and antibodies to organs, tissues and cells ... Show more content on

When irritable, heart muscle responds to stimuli with the strongest possible contraction (all or nothing
law). Irritability is influenced by: (a)neural, hormonal, and nutritional balance (b)adequacy of oxygen
supply (c)drug therapy and (d)products of infection. 3. Refractoriness this prevents heart muscle from
responding to a new stimulus while the heart is still in a state of contraction due to an earlier stimulus,
and thus, helps to preserve heart rhythm. Irritability is lowest during refractory period. During the
absolute refractory period, the heart muscle will not respond to any stimulus however, strong;during
the relative refractory period, the heart muscle slowly regains irritability. 4. Conductivity ability of
heart muscle fibers to transmit electrical impulses. 5. Contractility shortening of heart muscle fibers in
response to stimuli. 6. Automaticity ability of heart to beat spontaneously and repetitively without
external neurohormonal control. The heart is capable of beating outside the body, given proper
laboratory conditions. Automaticity is evidently linked to fluid and electrolyte balance rather than to
nervous system control. 7. Extensibility (Expansibility) ability of heart muscle to stretch as the heart
fills with blood between contractions. Starling s Law of Heart states: the greater the stretch of cardiac
muscle, the more forceful are the heart s

Essay on The Doctrine of the Mean in Aristotles Politics
The Doctrine of the Mean in Aristotle s Politics.
Examining the texts of Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics and Politics side by side, one is bound to find
parallels between his reasoning with regard to the individual and to the state. In Nicomachean Ethics
Aristotle discusses happiness, virtue, and the good life on an individual level and lays out necessary
provisions for the good life of a person. He maintains that virtue is a necessary element of happiness: a
man will be happy if he has virtues of justice, courage, and temperance, each constituting a balance
between the extremes. But this requirement of virtue for the happy life goes beyond the individual
level, as we see it in Politics . There, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the mean relative to us is not one, and is not the same for everyone .
With respect to this, Aristotle states that virtue seeks the mean relative to us, and this is how each
science produces its product well : by focusing on what is intermediate and making the product
conform to that. A well made product will be that to which nothing can be added or taken away
without making it worse, since it assumes that excess or deficiency ruins a good result, while the mean
preserves it. And just like good craftsmen focus on an intermediate when they produce a product, one
should aim at intermediate in regard to virtue.
Thus we see that virtue is to be achieved by concentrating on the optimal mean between the extremes
of deficiency and excess. But the discussion of virtue would be incomplete if one did not investigate
its role with respect to the object possessing virtue and its effect on that object. Since Aristotle defines
virtue as a state that decides the optimal mean relative to us, he asserts that every virtue causes its
possessors to be in a good state and to perform their functions well; the virtue of eyes, e.g., makes the
eyes and their functioning excellent, because it makes us see well , and this is argued to be true in the
case of all objects. At this point, the role of virtue with respect to the object is apparent: something
will be functioning at the best level only if it reaches an

Richard III Foreshadowing Analysis
Shakespeare uses foreshadowing in Richard III, to show the reader the fate of each characters. For
every character we see some type of foreshadowing that predicts their future. We see foreshadowing in
Margaret s curses, Anne s curses, Richard and Richmond s dreams, and the prophetic dream of
Clarence. Shakespeare uses curses as a big part of foreshadowing. He uses Margaret s and Anne s
curses to foreshadow the fate of the main characters. Almost every character in Richard III falls to the
fate of Margaret s curses. In Act 1 of the play Margaret curses King Edward, Queen Elizabeth, Edward
Prince of Wales, Rivers, Dorset, Lord Hastings, and finally Richard of Gloucester. Margaret curses
King Edward with death due to eating too much, Rivers, Dorset, and Lord Hastings are cursed with
death by an unexpected accident, Edward Prince of Wales is cursed with death, and Queen Elizabeth is
cursed with living a miserable life like Margaret. All of these curses foreshadow the fate of these
characters. Margaret concludes her curses on the York s with Richard saying:
The worm of conscience still begnaw thy soul.
Thy friends suspect for traitors while thou liv st,
And take deep traitors for thy dearest friends.

Unless it be while some tormenting dream

Many books have been banned from school libraries. Have it be the language, racial themes, sex,

the books. What about Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes a book about a 32 year old man named
charlie who is developmentally disabled and has the opportunity to undergo a surgical procedure that
will dramatically increase his mental capabilities. Why ban this book? Well in this book you can find
references to the use of alcohol, references to sexual content and Bullying. The book s references to
sexual content, alcohol use, and bullying influenced many parents to have this book be banned, but is
the banning of this book throughout the nation justified.
One reason why Flowers of algernon by daniel keyes was banned in many schools was because of the
reference to the use of alcohol. In progress report 16 the use of alcohol is mentioned a few times Fay
had taken off her shoes and was sitting on the floor, sipping gin out of the bottle, This makes it sound
like drinking alcohol is a casual thing.Alcohol is also mentioned again in progress report 16, is it wise
of you to drink so heavily? , No, but i m trying to relax... This part of the conversation between two
people makes it sound like alcohol is a remedy to stress. With alcohol being used casually and as a

Marionettes, Inc. by Ray Bradbury takes place in the year of 1989 when two men are conspiring over
the thought of having a robot stand in for them at home so that they can go out and do things their
wives would not approve of. The story starts out as two young men are walking down a street and

early hour, and Braling goes on to explain that he has a new robot that looks, acts, and smells like him
so he can trick his wife and this is just a trial run to see if his wife notices that he is missing, he also
adds that his wife has been controlling him for the last ten years and he would like to get away and go
on his dream vacation without her. At first Smith is suspicious about the company and the morals they
stand for so he questions his friend to find out more about the company. Braling then goes on to
explain that the company is called Marionettes Inc. and that although they are not yet legalized by the
government they have been secretly running their business for two years and they will clone anyone

political faith founded upon things fundamental in American history and tradition. He was presented

The Italian Resistance Movement
The Italian resistance movement also knows as Resistenza or Movimento Partigiano, had a crucial
impact on World War II final results. The movement has been active approximately since September 8
1943, also known as Armistice day, until the very beginning of May 1945.
The born of the Italian resistance is due to the popular insurrection: Italian people realized where
Fascism and Nazism was driving their country and the whole world and decided to revenge the
national pride. At first people coming from monarchy and anti fascist groups joined the movement but
the number of supporters increased exponentially in the next few years. Civil people didn t have

Teams take on all shapes and sizes. It seems as if you don t have to look very far to see both the
importance and impact that teams have on almost every aspect of life as we know it. Those who learn
how to properly harness the power of teamwork understand how it can create an incredible
opportunity and potential for progress and accomplishment. Teams that find the ability to work
together with a sense of unity and common vision seem to produce at high levels of effectiveness.
Teamwork also, however, can create environments where conflict and challenge can easily arise and
hinder the ability to work together with effectiveness. Patrick Lencioni states, As difficult as it is to
build a cohesive team, it is not complicated. As simple as it may be, for many leaders the ability to
build, develop and properly utilize teams is a challenge. For church ministry leaders, the ability to
build and develop teams and manage conflict are vital skill sets that must be invested in to understand
and develop. In the pages ahead I plan to explore from a biblical perspective of why the building and
development of teams is so important, and some of the challenges that

Pich, Loch and De Meyer [12] describe a type of project that encounters unknown unknowns and how
it is best suited to what they called a learning strategy which involves scanning, problem solving and

which are suited to instructionism , and distinct from selectionism where the most fruitful initiative is
chosen after a pool of trials. Turner and Cochran [13] espouse the goals and methods matrix that
describes four diļ¬€erent types of project according to how well deļ¬ned the methods and goals are.
Projects can have poorly deļ¬ned goals ( ļ¬re ) or poorly deļ¬ned methods ( water ), or both ( air ).
Shenhar and Wideman [14] describe a type of project that involves high levels of uncertainty, using
technologies together for the ļ¬rst time. They call these high tech [14]. They also describe a type of
project that actually creates new technologies, called super high tech . Shenhar [15] describes how low

Numerous covered shopping arcades, such as the 19th century Al Hamidiyah Souq in Damascus,Syria,
can be considered precursors to the present day shopping mall.[4] Isfahan s Grand Bazaar, which is
largely covered, dates from the 10th century. The 10 kilometer long covered Tehran s Grand Bazaar
also has a long history. The Grand Bazaar of Istanbul was built in the 15th century and is still one of
the largest covered markets in the world, with more than 58 streets and 4,000 shops.
Gostiny Dvor in St. Petersburg, which opened in 1785, may be regarded as one of the first purposely
built mall type shopping complexes, as it consisted of more than 100 shops covering an area of over
53,000 m2 (570,000 sq ft).
The Oxford Covered Market in Oxford, England opened in 1774 and still runs today.
The Burlington Arcade in London was opened in 1819. The Arcade in Providence, Rhode Island
introduced the retail arcade concept to the United States in 1828. This was a forerunner of today s

The Book Thief, directed by Brian Percival, and The Boy in Striped Pyjamas, directed by Mark

The innocence of Bruno is portrayed through the stylistic device, dramatic irony, such as Not fair, me

this scene, there is a form of diegetic music being played and the film finishes with a fading camera

William Shakespeare s King Lear
In the beginning of Shakespeare s play King Lear, the Duke of Albany is very gray. If the reader were
to look up the definition of sitting on the fence in the dictionary, there would be a picture of Albany
next to it. Although the character Albany begins the play as a complacent character, his character
matures greatly throughout the play. By the end of the play, he is one of the only characters left alive
and he becomes king of England. Shakespeare s character Albany in King Lear shows questionable
character traits in the beginning; but in the end, he shows his worthiness to rule the kingdom. One of
the more questionable character traits Albany shows in the beginning would be submissiveness. With
no effort to show any leadership, Albany has a total of nine lines through the first three acts of the
play. Why does he have so little? Many people would argue that his lack of dialogue is because of his
mild tempered attitude, but he does not say anything because he is blind meaning he does not see and
understand what is happening around him. This trait of submissiveness in Albany is further
emphasized by the fact that three scenes out of the first act happen at his castle and he does not even
speak except for a couple lines. And even when he does speak, his speech is simple one liners such as,
Now, gods that we adore, wherof comes this? or What s the matter, sir? Albany does not understand

The Gulf Of Tonkin Resolution
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution was a resolution that stated that the
president could take any and all action necessary in Vietnam. This was spurred by a supposed attack
on a United States gun boat in the Gulf of Tonkin. A point of comparison to the Gulf of Tonkin
Resolution could be the declaration of war following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. On December 7th,
1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) launched a large bombing mission against the ships and the
soldiers at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. After this event, the original idea to try and keep the United States
out of World War II was abandoned and the United States began to churn out military equipment and

African Americans would be dedicated workers alongside whites if whites cast down their buckets to
African Americans to help them to find work. In Washington s mind, allowing African Americans to

The Native Americans were forced and paid to leave their traditional lands and either chose to hide
from or join the white people by living on reserves. Their native tongue, teachings and traditions were
soon to be extinct and one man named Ishi and his family went around trying to pass on their culture
to the new inhabitants of their land, The whites. Unfortunately, Ishi died not long after, a subject of
disease. And thanks to his efforts and the efforts of people all around America, white people began to
rally against the government alongside the natives. Native Americans were granted the same rights as
any other American in 1924 and were soon merged in with the rest of society.
In both cases, after a long, hard battle against the white settlers on their land, the Indigenous
Australians and Native American have finally been granted the rights they deserve and have been
accepted by society as a whole. Although, some people may stick to the old mindset, unable to move
on and appreciate the natives of the land on which they stand. They are, after all, the traditional

  • 2. The Negative Effects of Job Automization In Zuboffā€™s, ā€œIn... In Zuboff s, In the Age of the Smart Machine the reader develops a sense of how automation of jobs can have a negative effect on the employees if implementation of new technology is not done properly. Both the automation of the mill and the automation of the global bank had some similarities. Both organizations went from a more oral and action on type of task to more of a data centered task. We can see this clearly form Zuboff s examples. At the pulp mill, workers were used to making rounds and checking the pulp consistency, which at that point the workers would make a decision if they need to open or close a valve. This hands on task transitioned into a more data reading and monitoring task, which was something that the workers were not specifically trained for. Instead, mill workers had to be able to read the indicators and know the consistency of the pulp. Like the pulp mill, the global bank ran into a similar problem. At the global bank, workers communicated with one another and passed around documents for verification. For example, a clerk would hand a document to a loan approver with the necessary information and the loan approver would check the documents and make a decision if the loan should be approved or not. Once the decision is made, the loan approver would hand the document back to the clerk. In other words, employees used each other to transfer documents through communication and the physical action. The automation took all the communicating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Compare And Contrast Scouts And Girl Scouts The Boy Scouts of America and the Girls Scouts of the USA are both nonprofit organizations that can be the most wonderful experiences in one s life. Being a Boy Scout or Girl Scout can help the youth develop maturity and character, as they grow with age and enter adulthood. Through the process of volunteering and showing leadership skills, Boy Scouts of America and Girls Scouts of the USA are both life changing organizations. One involved in any of the two organizations will create unity throughout their community and uphold a legacy. While the youth involved in one of the two organizations earn achievements and countless awards, scouting can be utilized to create an exceptional college admission resume. Although the Girls Scouts of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The six levels consist of: Daises (grades kindergarten and first), Brownies (grades second and third), Juniors (grades fourth and fifth), Cadettes (grades sixth and eighth), Seniors (grades ninth and tenth), and Ambassadors (grades eleventh and twelfth) (Grade Levels). Rather than a Girl South having to prove that she s worthy, she will automatically proceed in the organization based upon her grade level. Another contrast between Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are the most noteworthy honors that a scout can be awarded. While being in any of these two Scouting organizations, a scout can earn numerous awards. The highest award that a scout can be presented with, nonetheless, differs between organizations. In Boy Scouts, the highest achievement a Boy Scout can receive is an Eagle Scout. Rather than an Eagle Scout being an award, it is the highest position in the rank system. Becoming an Eagle Scout takes much work and dedication to the organization. One receiving this award will have to meet several requirements. One must show that they are progressing in the program through their leadership, service, and outdoor skills (Trail to Eagle). Moreover, in order to become an Eagle Scout, a Boy Scout must first move forward in the ranking system. Although there are more than 130 merit badges that a Boy Scout can receive, they must earn 21 to be eligible become an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Central Park Five Summary The documentary we had to watch for this week s discussion called The Central Park Five directed by Ken Burns was eye opening. The movie was about five black and Latino teenagers aged 14 to 16 of being falsely convicted of attacking and raping a 28 year old white woman in the central park, New York in 1989. There was lots of miscarriage of justice that occurred in this movie that caught me by surprise and disappointment me. If this was a woman from Harlem or another poor city, this would not have been such a big case. In the movie, they talk about the woman being raped and thrown off the balcony and no one had any issue with that. It was not even public headlines in most newspapers, not fair how some stories get more popularity over others. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They lied to the 5 teens saying, the other in the group is telling them they did the crime and if they admit it they can walk out a free man. Manipulating and pressuring the teens to do something or say something they want to hear is a terrible persona. That is a tough situation for a teen to be in; they are not used to being locked up for days and being interrogated by the police. In their head, they thought the only way to get out was by saying something the prosecutor and detective wanted to hear, which untimely ended up hurting them the most in the trial. I was disappointed in the fact that the teens were convicted before the trail, I feel as once they walked into the police department the law enforcement team knew they were going to pin this crime on the teens by any means. This would have been easy for the public to believe because of the color of their skin and easy to see them as violent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Internet Censorship Libraries Essay Libaries across the nation are in a dilemma, should they filter what information is available to it s visitors via the Internet? This scenario is being debated all across the United States. Many states are arguing over whether or not the library has the authority to limit what information is accessible via the Internet computers at the library. The argument is over the First Amendment right of Free Speech. There are family groups who are actually in favor of allowing unfiltered access on the Internet, not what one would think. These groups also support the notion of parents being with their children while they are on the Internet, not something that all parents have the luxury of being able to do. Other groups want the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Public access to the Internet is available at over 50% of the public libraries in the United States. Library patrons can access the limitless information available that the Internet offers. With this many libraries allowing access and many more each day adding access a new dilemma has been created. The dilemma is to support the American Library Associations Bill of Rights and the First Amendment Right of Free Speech or to limit access to the Internet by censoring or blocking out undesirable information, and thus going against the right of free speech. On July 2, 1997 the American Library Association (ALA) adopted a resolution affirming that the use of filtering software by libraries to block access to constitutionally protected speech violated the Library Bill of Rights. An earlier statment by the ALA titled Access to Electronic Information, Services and Networks in January of 1996 stated users should not be restricted or denied access for expressing or receiving constitutionally protected speech. One would think that this would resolve the libraries dilemma, it did not. Public libraries must answer to boards, parents and their constituencies and therefore this group of people must support this decision as well. Characteristics Of Machiavelli To be an efficient ruler they must possess the ability to project beast like attitude, with this correlated with this is the justification of a ruler for breaking his word, this idea only applies if doing otherwise will place a ruler at a disadvantage within his society. These two characteristics are inevitable and imperative to rulers if they hope to be successful. For a ruler, presentation is key to leading a successful society. They must learn to be Half man, half beast. Machiavelli points this out in The Prince through an allegory, Chiron is a centaur who was a teacher to other princes. He demonstrated the need for rulers to develop both characteristics, that of a man and beast. This idea is essential because Machiavelli thought of men by nature as deceptive liars, who would take advantage of a ruler and his power if they sensed a submissive attitude (P.54). This could be a consequence of not exhibiting that beast like quality, which could later place not only the ruler, but society as a whole at a disadvantage. Isaiah Berlin, author of the article A Special Supplement: The Question of Machiavelli , further justifies this concept by explaining: The pagan world that Machiavelli prefers is built on recognition of the need for systematic guile and force by rulers, and he seems to think it natural and not at all exceptional or morally agonizing that they should employ these weapons wherever they are needed (P.35). Huber feels there is less encouragement for citizens to take matters in their own hands and take responsibility for their actions. With a rather different perspective Richard L. Abel believes that victims obtain better outcomes in the tort system today then they did in our past. Tort claims which are successful do not create an accident cost, in fact if proven they shift the cost from the victims to the tortfeasors. Many accidents and injuries occur in our country from year to year. Surveys have concluded that everyone will suffer from one serious injury throughout their lifetime in which they are not likely to recover from the damages because of a tortfeasor. Abel blames all of these problems on the present tort system we have today, in which he states is an absolute failure. Abel writes in his article that most scholars believe that tort law is divided up into three basic principal objectives: redressing the violation of important norms, compensating victims, and discouraging unsafe behavior. Foreshadowing is being determined by a hint given in order to understand or predict certain events that will happen later in the story. An author is using a pre scene surrounding, many readers, out of my own observation, did not notice. It is a really questionable moment, why she decided to go to the back door instead of using a main entrance. Another very interesting moment where Elizabeth Taylor wisely decided to use a foreshadowing is the end of the short story, when Sylvia noticed a fly paper located in the house of an old lady: She stared up at a fly paper hanging in the window the only disconcerting thing in the room. Some of the flies were still half alive, and striving hopelessly to free themselves. But they were caught forever. . The study uses grounded theory (Glaser and Strauss 1967; c.f., Charmaz 2013; c.f., Corbin and Strauss 2015) in its focus on principles of emergence by which systematic generation and conceptualization of data provides meaning and relevance to concepts (Glaser and Strauss 1967). In accordance with the recommendations of engaged scholarship by Van de Ven (2007), the project began with the identification of a research problem identified to be relevant to experienced practitioners in leading organizations of IT project management. To develop a base understanding of the challenges experienced in the execution of IT projects, we engaged informally with key industry informants. Observations made in this stage were used to inform the specific research objectives and question put forth in the Introduction. Specifically, observations were used as data that was conceptualized based on theoretical sensitivity in line with grounded theory (Glaser 1978; Strauss and Corbin 1990). Data complexity was used in the early stages of the research to allow the relevant themes and findings to emerge from the data and to avoid forcing the data to fit existing theories (Urquhart 2013). The conceptual development aspect of grounded theory allows us to discover theory from the data and identify the theories and tenets within that are applicable to IT contexts of interest (Jabareen 2009; Birks et ... The goal of this action research project is to determine if a structured recess program would decrease aggressive behavior on the playground which in turn would decrease the number of behavior referral forms that would have to be written. There is a growing problem in our schools; children do not know how to play during recess time. Children are spending more and more time in front of the television, video games, or other sedentary non play activities. They are not learning how to play properly with other children and are coming to school not knowing what to do during their recess (Patrick, 1996). As they enter school it is now the schools job to teach the students how to correctly interact while playing at recess. Recess needs to be the fourth R taught in school (Pellegrini, Bohn, 2005). Putting students on the playground for recess time when they do not know how to play and interact with other students will only lead to boredom and inappropriate behavior. To avoid these inappropriate behaviors schools have started to use a more structured recess approach to teach children how to play and interact while on the playground. The question then becomes what structured recess program to use and will this program be truly affective? The first solution would be to start using a structured recess program called Playworks. • 22. Software Engineering And Intelligent Systems Essay INTRODUCTION Throughout the year I have learnt about many issues in software engineering and intelligent systems by researching for this report. In this report I will be explaining and discussing these key problems and some key techniques that can be implemented to overcome these for both software engineering and intelligent systems. SOFTWARE ENGINEERING Software Engineering is the discipline of designing and developing software projects so that they behave in an efficient and independent manner while meeting the requirement of the client. Some key problems which arise in software engineering are complexity, inefficient communication and inadequate testing. Software projects are large and take years to make. In order to reduce the risk of failure and keep track of problems, software projects must follow the correct methodology. A methodology is a set of instructions followed in order to develop projects efficiently. In software engineering, a methodology is a discipline which structures a project strongly so that it will succeed. Without a strong structure, the project will start to break down and create big problems for software engineers. KEY PROBLEMS COMPLEXITY Software projects are complex and can crash with the slightest errors. Software Engineering projects take a lot of time and can sometimes take years to code. Some projects are made with over a thousand lines of code, due to this, the chance of error increases. For example, in 1998, a crew member of the USS ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examining the texts of Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics and Politics side by side, one is bound to find parallels between his reasoning with regard to the individual and to the state. In Nicomachean Ethics Aristotle discusses happiness, virtue, and the good life on an individual level and lays out necessary provisions for the good life of a person. He maintains that virtue is a necessary element of happiness: a man will be happy if he has virtues of justice, courage, and temperance, each constituting a balance between the extremes. But this requirement of virtue for the happy life goes beyond the individual level, as we see it in Politics . There, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the mean relative to us is not one, and is not the same for everyone . With respect to this, Aristotle states that virtue seeks the mean relative to us, and this is how each science produces its product well : by focusing on what is intermediate and making the product conform to that. A well made product will be that to which nothing can be added or taken away without making it worse, since it assumes that excess or deficiency ruins a good result, while the mean preserves it. And just like good craftsmen focus on an intermediate when they produce a product, one should aim at intermediate in regard to virtue. Thus we see that virtue is to be achieved by concentrating on the optimal mean between the extremes of deficiency and excess. But the discussion of virtue would be incomplete if one did not investigate its role with respect to the object possessing virtue and its effect on that object. Since Aristotle defines virtue as a state that decides the optimal mean relative to us, he asserts that every virtue causes its possessors to be in a good state and to perform their functions well; the virtue of eyes, e.g., makes the eyes and their functioning excellent, because it makes us see well , and this is argued to be true in the case of all objects. At this point, the role of virtue with respect to the object is apparent: something will be functioning at the best level only if it reaches an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It seems as if you don t have to look very far to see both the importance and impact that teams have on almost every aspect of life as we know it. Those who learn how to properly harness the power of teamwork understand how it can create an incredible opportunity and potential for progress and accomplishment. Teams that find the ability to work together with a sense of unity and common vision seem to produce at high levels of effectiveness. Teamwork also, however, can create environments where conflict and challenge can easily arise and hinder the ability to work together with effectiveness. As simple as it may be, for many leaders the ability to build, develop and properly utilize teams is a challenge. For church ministry leaders, the ability to build and develop teams and manage conflict are vital skill sets that must be invested in to understand and develop. If the reader were to look up the definition of sitting on the fence in the dictionary, there would be a picture of Albany next to it. Although the character Albany begins the play as a complacent character, his character matures greatly throughout the play. By the end of the play, he is one of the only characters left alive and he becomes king of England. Shakespeare s character Albany in King Lear shows questionable character traits in the beginning; but in the end, he shows his worthiness to rule the kingdom. One of the more questionable character traits Albany shows in the beginning would be submissiveness. With no effort to show any leadership, Albany has a total of nine lines through the first three acts of the play. Why does he have so little? Many people would argue that his lack of dialogue is because of his mild tempered attitude, but he does not say anything because he is blind meaning he does not see and understand what is happening around him. This trait of submissiveness in Albany is further emphasized by the fact that three scenes out of the first act happen at his castle and he does not even speak except for a couple lines.
