The Book Thief By Marcus Zusak Essay
In the novel The Book Thief written by Marcus Zusak, Max found himself in a situation where the
propaganda that Hitler has set affected his life in many ways. With the help of Liesel s words and
reading and the care that the Hubermanns gave, Max grew stronger and he had the courage to stand up
and protect himself from the force that Hitler had set against the him and the Jews. By having the his
power of will, Max was fighting Hitler in his own circumstances even if it s just in his imagination.
When a Jew shows up at your place of residence in the early hours of the morning, in the very
birthplace of Nazismn, you re likely to experience extreme levels of Discomfort, Anxiety, Disbelief
and Paranoia. , The propaganda of Hitler was the most important aspect in the The Book Thief
because it often set the mood that I was feeling and that feeling was sick and cringing while reading
the Novel. Before the war, The Nazi s passed laws to effectively get rid of the Jews Human Rights and
basically stripping and restricting them from being human . Max, The Jewish Fist Fighter , was a
victim of the Propaganda and his presence served and reminded me the vast superiority that the
German s had against the Jews during the Holocaust. This made me think so negatively on the
Propaganda that was set against the Jews and completely disagreeing with the way Hitler was seeing
things because of the fact that for Max to be, lucky , lucky meant that his home was the Hubermann s

The UK Education System for Disabled Pupils
The Education System in the UK is presently experiencing a major transform which has no occurred
at any time since Butler Education Act in 1944. There are currently an enormous variety of schools
with extensively mismatched governance, funding arrangements and legal obligations. All pupils in
England, excluding those at self governing (i.e. private or fee paying) schools and the recent
academies are necessary to remain to the National Curriculum. Northern Ireland and Wales mainly
pursue the National Curriculum needs. United Kingdom independently addresses the needs and rights
of pupils and children with disability/special educational requirements (Adams Brown, 2006). The

Vygotsky Vs Piaget
In the world of cognitive development , two of the most influential psychologists are Jean Piaget and
Lev Vygotsky. Piaget s theory of cognitive development and Vygotsky s sociocultural theory had a
profound impact on the field of cognitive development, and their contributions continue to influence
psychologist, educators and researchers today. Both Vygotsky and Piaget s theories provide a different
perspective on how children learn, and by looking at both theories, we can better understand a child s
cognitive development. At the beginning of his career, Jean Piaget considered himself to be a genetic
epistemologist (McLeod,2015). Because of his desire to understand how knowledge emerges, Piaget
decided to study human development, specifically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first stage, Piaget looked at understanding object permanence which is recognizing if an object
still exist even when it is out of sight (Cardwell Flanagan,2004). Children below the age of two failed
to grasp the concept. Next, Piaget examined if children, in pre operational stage, could understand the
logic. He did this by seeing if children could understand that despite the change of the appearance of
an object, it would remain the same (Cardwell Flanagan, 2004). In his conservation experiment, Piaget
showed children identical glass full of equal amount of liquid. He then pours the liquid of one the
glasses in a taller narrow glass. After which, he would ask the child, what glass has more? . Inevitably,
the child would say the tall the narrow glass, believing it contained more liquid because of the height
of the glass (Cardwell Flanagan, 2004). Piaget believed that this was caused by centration , and was
based on perception instead of logic (Cardwell Flanagan, 2004).
The importance of Piaget s work cannot be understated. His theory of cognitive development
continues to influence research today. In a recent study, researchers decided to take a closer look at
early brain development as it pertains to Piaget s sensorimotor stage. They discovered that the nerve
pathway that carries information such as eye, head, neck and trunk coordination is one of the earliest
central nervous systems to myelinate, allowing the infant s early sucking, grasping, and the following
objects just as Piaget describes in his early stage of development (Lefman

valuable pieces of art, including sculptures, paintings, and even some books. Recently, the museum
had a collection of busts from the Immortales collection in Rome. This was the first time that many of
these pieces have ever left Italy and was the only place in the United States that they have been.

I felt as though it was just a completely different setup, the mahogany wood did not fit well with the
plain white stonewalls of the rest of the exhibits. It was also set up as if it was a house with couches
and tables but they were not for sitting on and so it just takes up space. It can be distracting from
actual paintings displayed there. However, other then the distractions the mahogany wood was
beautiful. It almost transported the viewers into a different time period. It was a weird choice when
compared to the rest of the museum, but if you were to examine just those two rooms by their selves
then you can appreciate the effort took in designing the setup. The last thing that has not been
addressed with the critique is the setup of the gift shop, however, I personally did not get the
opportunity to look into the gift shop so I can not comment on its setup, but if the gift shop is anything
like the rest of the museum then I am sure that it is a nice store with great products for sale. In
conclusion, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is a wonderful example of an art museum. It is one of
the nicest museums in the country on a college campus. The museum also is always free, free
admission to such a huge collection of artwork is not something that happens very often and we are

Coca Cola Rhetorical Analysis

This is a conative message strategy. This function sends objective information, in other words,
exposes the reality in an objective way, no comment or evaluation. Generally, the text is presented in

This announcement appeals for consumer rationality, showing that the product, the ketchup is made

The Effects Of Toxic Leadership On Toxic Leaders
The Effects of Toxic Leadership

What is Toxic Leadership
Many people are guided in their personal and professional lives by individuals who are caring,
compassionate, and ethical. However there are also those who are guided by cruel, greedy, and
poisonous leaders. Those leaders are considered to be toxic. Toxic leaders can have a direct effect on
the people they influence.
Toxic leadership has been around since the beginning of time. Most individuals if asked could name at
least one person in their personal or professional life that they would consider toxic. Toxic leaders can

Long Term Health Implications Long term exposure to stressful or toxic workplaces can have
devastating health implications. According to an article by Elizabeth Heubeck stress in the workplace
was the most costly risk factor. The risk factor for stress was more than tobacco and alcohol use,
obesity, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. While the impact of workplace stress varies from
one person to the next, mounting evidence shows that stress can cause some very specific adverse
health effects (Heubeck, E WebMD). Being subjected to a prolonged stressful or toxic work
environment has the potential to seriously negatively affect the workforce, and cost the company
financially.
Emotional Effects of Toxic Leadership
Effect of Toxic Leadership on Relationships Stressful workplaces have the potential to strain
relationships both in and outside of the workplace. One of the many detrimental characteristics of a
toxic leader is to create a culture of conflict in the workplace between departments or individuals.
These conflicts can often result in feelings of contempt, lack of trust, and disgust for peers. These
feelings make successful teamwork in some cases extremely difficult, if not impossible. These
conflicts have the potential to turn healthy competitions into ugly battles in the

Children Should Start At An Early Age

Babies are born every day creating a constant demand for advice about every aspects of childcare and

a child is complicated.
Being a parent is one of the most challenging task but very rewarding experience in life. I can say this

In cases like these, people around us would judge us right away that we are not good parents and we
do not discipline our child.
How Can I Help My Child Learn Good Behaviour? There are lot of ways how to help our kids learn
good behaviour. All we need is to understand and consider them, that they are not perfect and often
makes mistakes just like we do. Here are some suggestions:
Offer Praise and Affection Regularly. For example, my son, Andrew who is two years old at that time
had drawn a squiggly lines and web like scribbles on our white wall. After coming home exhausted
from work, he met me at the door and very proud and happy to show his drawing. Instead of being
mad, I composed myself and said, Oh that is very nice, it is like a spider web, but next time draw or
write it in a paper as I had literally gave a paper and crayons to him.
Plan Transition. Doing one activity to the next makes child anxious, we need to talk to our child so
they knew what to expect. Give our child advance warning when transitioning into another activity.
Example) Two or more minutes playing with the blocks or dolls, then its time to clean up . In this way,
they prepare themselves for the change of routine and move on to another activity.
Avoid stressful situations. Common triggers may include hunger and sleepiness, and quick change of
venues. So, plan in advance and anticipate our child schedules. Don t take our child shopping and do

Dbq Compromise Of 1877
The year 1877 is considered the year that ended Reconstruction mainly because of the actions that
took place after the election of Rutherford B. Hayes. Initially, it looked as if Democrat Samuel Tilden
had won the election. Tilden had the majority in the popular vote but had only ended with 184 out of a
needed 185 electoral votes. Three southern states had disputed returns during this election and their
electoral votes had not been accounted for yet. This led to a few months of both parties trying to claim
the remaining electoral votes. This brings us to the the Compromise of 1877. This let Hayes have the
presidency and in return the southern states had control over their governments along with some vague
promises including a southern transcontinental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was a lot of violence that hd happened in the years prior to the election primarily the years 1874
1876. This surge of political violence could be the reaction to the results of the 1872 election which
left a Republican in charge. The people participating and leading these violent action believed that
they were doing the right thing in trying to regain white supremacy. In a religious metaphor that
matched their view of the Civil War as a lost crusade, southern Democrats called their victory
Redemption and depicted themselves as Redeemers, holy warriors who had saved the South from the
hell of black Republican rule. (Goldfield, 16.5) There were instances in which white persons joined
together in an effort of intimaidation and were mostly successful in overthrowing back politicians as
well as scaring black voters away from the polls. One example that had a profound impact was that of
the New Orleans Leaguers who attempted to oust the Republican Governor William P. Kellog in 1874.
Although this attempt was more or less thwarted, they were more successful in the countryside where
they attacked and overthrew or murdered Republican officials in eight

Little Women Book Vs Movie
What bond is stronger than sisterhood? Although the movie, Little Women, shares many basic
components with the book by Louisa May Alcott, there are still many differences which set them
apart, such as directors choice, dramatic irony, feelings and much more. The director of the movie,
Little Women chose to keep mostly true to the book, while adding some scenes that helped the movie
show more emotions that made it a bit more like the book. For example, in the beginning, of the
movie the director had a scene where Laurie sitting at the window, watching the girls deliver food to
their neighbors, which wasn t a part of the book. I think the director did this because he wanted us to
know that he would be in the movie later on. Although this was a difference, one similarity was how
Jo and Laurie met. In both they met at a party, Laurie was standing behind a curtain because he was
shy, and Jo ended up behind that curtain because she was trying to get away from a guy that wanted to
ask her to dance. I think the director chose to keep this because it shows that Jo is more of a
mischievous person, which is described in the book, but is shown in the movie. The director did a
good job of keeping me just as hooked as I was when I read the book, he stayed true to the book while

A part where the author and director both used dramatic irony was when Laurie and Jo both knew that
John liked Meg and they would talk about it together, I think the director decided to keep this in the

was different was when Laurie called Mrs. March to come home early when Beth was sick, in the
book Mrs. March reached a day after Laurie told the sisters he called their mother, but in the movie,
Mrs. March showed up in a few hours. I think the director decided to change this because he

I have been exposed to the Holocaust from grade school, through my own personal interest in school.
For the most part, this was through books historical fiction, and survivor accounts. My most recent
expose was this past summer as an intern with the St. Louis Holocaust Museum and Learning Center.
This experience brought me working closely with artifacts from survivors who call St. Louis home. I
worked with the artifacts to create condition reports. What was important to me about the museum
was that it main parts were about 1933 1945, but it talked about the pre war and post war life for Jews.
It was a very rewarding experience to work with artifacts that belonged to survivors who live the

In stability, leads can lead to conflict, but nationalism has a similar effect in a stressful situation like
the 1930 s in Germany. Nationalism important to the formation of Germany. However, it can have
some serious conquests because of the emphasis on a shared culture, history, and language. This by
nature makes nationalism exclusive; it forces states to create who are its people. Hitler uses
nationalism to his advantage to sow doubt to his supports that Jews were not German. Nationalism
allowed for non Jewish Germans to understand that Jewish were not like them. For the fact that Jewish
had a shared history, culture, and langue that is different from other Germans. The creation of shared
identities allows for those who appear to not have these qualifications to be discriminated against.
When a nation holds tightly to nationalistic standards it leads down a path towards a genocide. Hitler
speeches and writing are based on who is German. Studying the Holocaust shows that nations must
take a more multicultural perspective and legal basis for defining citizens. A policy based on emotion
does not create the best policy for a state. This goes back to physiologically how people think about
others, and in moving towards both extremes of the political spectrum there is black and white
thinking. Nationalism allows for not critical

The morality about sex had a main aim: An ideal of purity based on a chastity code which emphasized
the relevance of premarital continence. In order to keep this chastity code, anything related to sex was
silenced in an attitude of deliberated ignorance, an attitude of rejection of sex, especially in women,
who usually associated sex with a marital duty. The Victorian education tried to introduce, especially
in young men, an attitude towards women based on respect. They were taught to think of women as
sisters or even as angels rather than human beings. This kind of education tried to separate completely
love from sex and it was not especially oriented to girls because women were supposed to not have
any kind of sexual desire. Any kind of sexual expression is limited to marriage, and even, sexual
relationships in marriage were only justified for procreation. The main source of this code of purity
and virtue is the resurgence of Puritanism in the last decades of 18th century (Methodism and
Evangelical movement). There was a revival of the old traditions which were very conservative and
especially repressed of any sexual behaviour. The Victorian Age s morality also condemned any kind
of sexual reference in literature. Victorian critics demanded from serious literature a didactic content
and respect to the Victorian conventions which established that sex

After reading the short story as a whole, Ms. Cameron then wanted the students to read independently.
I saw Ben using skills such as, pointing to the words as he read them. However, he often pointed
twice, or skipped pointing to particular words altogether. In addition to this, while reading Ben
omitted and added new words without self correction. This made me think that this was his way of
trying to understand the text. This also leads me to believe that Ben is having some difficulty with
word recognition and fluency/pace. When Ben read the book the second time he used the pictures to
read the story with no regard for the text. This tells me that he is able to interpret the pictures in order
to understand the story when he is not able to read the sentences.
The second lesson I observed was geared towards phonemes, segmenting and blending. Ms. Cameron
did a lot of modeling before this lesson. Although I have only been in her class twice, I can tell she is a
firm believer in the I do, we do, you do method. Ms. Cameron gathered all the students on the rug and
showed the class how to tap out different sounds of the letters in words like sit, mud, sad using their

due to Ben s lack of attention during the instruction. He was rocking back and forth in his spot, in

Neuroplasticity In The Brain
This editorial concerns an interesting paper, recently published in Acta Physiologica, showing
evidence that the focus of attention internal or external during execution of a motor task can cause
transient neuroplastic like responses in motor areas of the brain (Khun et al., 2016). Neuroplasticity
refers to the capacity of the brain to reorganise itself in response to our experiences throughout life.
Typically, changes to the organization of the brain come about to support brain function. For instance,
after a spinal cord injury or stroke, the brain must adapt to allow functional recovery (Rao et al.,
2016). The recognition that the brain must change to improve function has led to several attempts to
boost neuroplasticity. Cutting edge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, loud acoustic stimulation delivered during movement preparation (Marinovic et al.,

effects of loud sounds on movement facilitation (e.g. faster reaction times and increased response

Anthem Racism Essay
Are all of the different types of national anthem protest in the NFL equally effective at protesting
racial injustices in the US, or are they all just being disrespectful to the flag and the country? There are
many ways players and teams are protesting the National Anthem in the NFL today. The Seattle
Seahawks locked arms and stood, the Pittsburgh Steelers didn t even come onto the field, and the
Arizona Cardinals were allowed to do whatever they felt was right. All of these teams claimed that
they were demonstrating unity and standing up for racial equality. The most effective way was
demonstrated by the Seahawks because they displayed their stance on racial injustices in the most
professional way. And while it is clear that these protests have made an uproar in the NFL community,
it is not clear on how effective all the different types of protests are.
This is not the first time professional athletes have protested racial injustices in front of the entire
nation to see. During the 1968 Olympics runners Tommie Smith and John Carlos held a fist in the air
while wearing beads and cloth for shoes to protest the lynching and poverty of African Americans.
And in 1996, Mahmoud Abdul Rauf, a point guard in the NBA, was suspended a game for sitting
during the National Anthem. His reason for sitting was that it was against his religion. He was
scrutinized for this and after his contract was up he never played in the NBA again, and this was
during the prime of his career. During the

Deaf Education During The 1900 s
The rich history of American Deaf culture in conjunction withlanguage displays the determination
along with the brilliance of these people. Though the hearing world had called them sin, denounced
them as dumb, these people rose up against their oppressors, making a new world for themselves.
Deaf people have always existed, as did discrimination towards deaf people. As far back as 384 322
BCE, people had been saying that deaf people could not learn. Due to Deaf people being seen as
inferior, we hardly have any documented history on them before the early 1500 s. Patient parents of
Deaf children needed to have a way to communicate with their young, through this need the rise of
Deaf education began. Geronimo Cardano, a mathematician, created ... Show more content on

Wireless Networks Can Be Broadly Classified Into Three...
Wireless Networks can be broadly classified into three categories: Infrastructure based networks,
Wireless LANs and Ad Hoc Networks. Infrastructure based networks are traditional cellular systems
which require base station infrastructure. Wireless LANs are very flexible within the reception area. It
requires low bandwidth when compared to wired networks. Ad Hoc networks are useful when the
infrastructure is not available, impractical or expensive to build.
In Cellular Wireless, spaces are divided into cells. Each cell consists of base stations which is
responsible to communicate with the hosts in its cell. Hosts moves from one cell to cell to another and
hand off occurs, the new base station takes care of the communication. In Multi hop wireless, mobility
causes a change of route. Hence it need to traverse multiple links to reach destination. Ad hoc network
is a self organizing multi hop wireless network, which relies neither on infrastructure nor on the
predetermined connectivity.
Rapid deployment of mobile users will be the need for the next generation wireless communication
systems. A mobile ad hoc network is a collection of mobile users that communicate over constrained
wireless links with lower bandwidth. Network scenarios which include establishing dynamic
communication for emergency/rescue operations, survivable, efficient, disaster relief efforts and
military networks cannot rely on organized and centralized connectivity. Networks are known as ad
hoc because

A Feministic View on Jackson’s Short Stories ‘the Lottery’...
Shirley Jackson is most famous for her short story The Lottery and her novel The Haunted House .
She has been applauded for her fresh approach towards American Gothic writing. There are many
works dedicated to the gothic elements her stories contain. However, most critics overlooked the
feminist elements that most of her stories have. The two short stories discussed in this essay both have
female characters who are outsiders in their society. Careful examination of the protagonists course of
action, setting, and symbolic references Shirley Jackson put in both of the stories shows that the
female protagonist in both The Lottery and The Tooth should be considered as a woman with a
feminist attitude towards a male dominated society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

eventually lead to her downfall. Now that she is the victim, there is a significant change in attitude
towards the town and its tradition. She is no longer a good natured woman who finds the lottery on
great joke, instead, she stands up to this old tradition and is more nervous and aggressive than ever

The Pursuit Of Happiness Movie Analysis

Life is a struggle for the single father Chris Gardner known as Will Smith. He and his young son
known as Jaden Christopher Syre Smith got evicted from their apartment with no place to go. The
Pursuit Of Happiness directed by Gabrielle Muccino. The Pursuit Of Happiness was released in 2006
and it is 117 minutes long. The genre of the movie is Biography and drama. The important theme in
this movie is about the American Dream. It is a very common dream that we all share. The dream is to
being successful and happy. To fulfill that dream in America you need to have courage and the
abilities to achieve your dream.
The Pursuit Of Happiness is based on a true story about a man called Chris Gardner. Chris Gardner is
a great example for somebody that wants to Pursuit his American Dream. The Pursuit Of Happiness is
about how Chris Gardner is willing to make sure he achieves his happiness. For living, Chris Gardner
is a salesman who sells bone density scanners. Eventually he figured out that nobody wanted to buy it
because it is a luxury device in the medical business. Sometime in the beginning of the movie, there is
a scene where we see Chris Gardner approaching and trying to talk to Mr.Twistle. We see a long shot
of them both which shows us that they both are dressed in suits, which means that they both might be
office workers. The long shot then drifts and became a mid shot. The director could have purposely
done that to show that Mr.Twistle is in a hurry and has no time to speak with Chris. Chris Gardner and
Mr.Twistle got in the same cab. While they are in the same taxi together, we see that Chris is talking to
Mr.Twistle but the close up of Mr.Twistle s face shows that he s not interested in what Chris is saying.
This is because Twistle is just playing with a Rubik s cube. We then see an over the shoulder shot
which shows that it could mean that Chris is desperately wanting to talk to Mr.Twistle. Mr.Twistle
then says to Chris I m sorry, this thing is impossible. The extreme close up of Chris s face shows that
he is determined to do whatever it takes to talk to Mr.Twistle . Again, in the taxi part of the scene we
are only really shown mid shots and close

In The Pursuit of Happiness
Individuals try to find happiness, but like water or air, it is hard to clench in your hands. As defined in
Merriam Webster (2014), happiness is a state of well being and contentment. However, happiness is
hard to achieve, but it can be as simple as being contented, doing what you love, and living who you
really are. Furthermore, everyone asks how one would know that they have it already.
Happiness is hard to achieve. Some people follow several steps in order to get what they want. People
have unlimited wants. However, not all the things they want can give them happiness. Like what
Matthie Ricard (2007) said Happiness is a state of inner fulfillment, not the gratification of

One should be the captain of their own ship in order to be happy. Despite the fact that happiness seems
unattainable, it can be as simple as being contented. It is something that comes from people s action.
People should do what they need to. They make things happen and pursue new understandings. They
need to have a sense of purpose. Without purpose, everything is lost. If people have a sense of purpose
in their life, they can easily fulfill their satisfactions. Satisfying their wants would make them happy.
However, being happy is not all about satisfying people s wants. It is also about being contented with
what they have. The growth of happiness is directly proportional to acceptance and inversely to
expectations (Fox, 2007). Acceptance of the things around a person, whether it is good or bad, can
make one truly happy. In everything people do, one must follow where their heart is. From the
simplest things to the hardest ones, people must follow their heart. In making their decisions and
choosing their options, it is best to consult their own feelings. Following one s heart would really
make one happy. It would also avoid regrets in the end. Since they chose what they really love, they
would freely accept whatever the result is. Happiness is doing what you love. Moreover, people must
love what they need to do. They cannot always do what they only want to do. If people keep

Descartes Intersubjectual Judgements
Descartes using the power of intellectual judgements in order to justify the existence of other people.
When we observe other people over time, their appearances are representation of who thet actually
could be. When Descartes observes others, he finds that their consciousness is not in any sense
apparent through their appearances over time.7 When we look out and see men with their hats and
coats walking across the street, I find that I see no difference them and automatons that are
mechanically determined to perform in accordance with the law of causality.8 What allows us to
determine that the hats and coats that are walking outside are men rather than automatons is the same
intellectual judgement that allows us to state the wax remains the same object despite substantial
particular changes.9 Descartes holds that it is this a priori, metaphysical judgement that is the basis for
intersubjectivity.
Descartes metaphysical judgement demonstrates the permanence of the Cartesian Cogito. What
precisely connects the different particular aspects of the piece of wax is precisely the universal subject
that manages to unify the particular characteristics over time under the general name of wax . This can
t be a characteristic of the wax itself, and since their must be a permanence that connects the
particulars, it must therefore the permanence of individual consciousness.10 Perceptions are therefore
representations in front of mind, that need to played in front of the mental

Alain De Botton
In his TED talk, A kinder, gentler philosophy of success , Alain de Botton focuses on the different
ways that society views and accepts successes and failures. One model that de Botton discusses is one
where an individual takes their successes and failures to be upon themselves. He mentions that
individuals who take responsibility for their failures, as much as they do their successes, are more
likely to have low self esteem and career anxiety. With this lack of confidence and added stress, de
Botton concludes that it is difficult to find one s kinder, gentler . . . success because an individual will
fear the judgment that will surround their mistakes and the resulting negative effect on their reputation
which are all due to the mistakes that stem from their own fault. With his argument, de Botton
persuades his audience to veer away from believing that one s mistakes are entirely of their own
doing, and he introduces another way of thinking in lieu of it de Botton states that with an individual s
idea of success, one should be aware of their limits and admit what it s [success] is losing out on. He

Pirates of the Caribbean has a wide range of attractive qualities such as the fast paced action and the

The hero s and villains play an interesting part but the best part is played by Johnny Depp as the anti
hero captain Jack Sparrow. His cunning personality makes you grin as even in the face of death he s

The fast paced action like the swordfight between him and Barbossa at the end, two immortal pirates
locked in an everlasting battle.
This makes the film wide ranged because has romance, action, comedy, and fantasy, this helps the film
appeal to a wider audience.
The fantasy part of the film in my opinion is the best aspect of the film. The idea of pirates and curses
would fascinate the audience to watch with interest. It is a compelling story line which works well
with the special effects. For example when Elizabeth first learns about the curse and doesn t believe it
she walks out onto the deck and sees all the all the pirates in their ghostly form. Any film goer would
love this new and original storyline
The camera angles work well in the different parts of the film. At the beginning of the film when we
first see Elizabeth as a child the angle starts low and then zooms in on Elizabeth just the way the
camera is positioned shows us that Elizabeth is an important character. In another part of the film
when the undead pirates are walking on the sea bed the wide angle gives an affect that there are more
pirates than there really are. This gives the film a better look which appeals to everyone that is
watching.
The range of music in the film is excellent. The music is

Being the Best Missionary to the Indians
A good missionary is one that simply is respected and accepted by the Indians and who has
successfully spread the word of God to them. Many qualities however though play into obtaining this
presence. A lot of Europeans that came to the new world did not possess these many qualities to
understand the Indians. As a Jesuit myself who is a part of the New France mission I do know on a
first hand basis what it takes to be a good missionary. As a part of the New France mission I have
experienced various encounters with several different Indian nations. I do admit that these native
people are very down to earth and connected with each other very well. The purpose of are mission to
New France was to spread the word of God and our Catholic faith to the natives and convert them.
This process is much easier said than it is to actually be done. For one just think about trying to first
communicate with a person who speaks a different language, has no idea who you are, and where you
came from. To sum it up basically trying to talk with an alien from another planet in the skies. This
leads me to saying that communication and patience are the top two qualities that we missionaries
have to have to even start to succeed with our mission. Other Frenchmen that came here to the New
World to start a new life do not seem up to par with are communication and patience skills with the
natives here. The fact of their skills not up to par with ours is mainly because as a Jesuit we have been

With reference to your own process, discuss and analyse how the use of mask affected your approach

In this essay I will argue that the use of mask is vital in creating a believable and consistent character
for performance. The techniques used in masks not only help to define a character but also help an
actor improve their improvisation techniques.
Jacques Lecoq wanted to explore the hidden gestures, emotions and underlying states of a character,
which we express through mimages [109: 2002, Bloomsbury] I incorporated both the mimages and his

Draco would then scoff before dropping it elsewhere.
When making my mask, I wanted to create one that oozed authority with a hint of smarminess. I was
ultimately surprised by the outcome, my end product was a trickster. The raised eyebrow however led
to a smirk which ultimately led to the name Draco; a genus of reptiles, very apt for my character.
However, the eviller Draco became the more drastic a counter mask had to be. As our piece was
dedicated to stealing a picture of Zefron Zac Efron , when ripped, Draco had to flip suddenly.
I drew upon the counter mask exercises we had developed in rehearsals. Changing everything that
made Draco who he was. His ever present sneer faded into a frown and a wail.
To achieve Draco s mannerism and voice I charged my mask. Copying the arched eyebrow on the
mask I found a nasally voice with an added scoff at the end. I then began to work on my inner
dramatic monologue.
I wanted to keep in mind that Draco thought himself above everyone else hence a simple inner
monologue; I am surrounded by idiots...peasants, they should be quivering in my mere presence.
Getting the temperament of Draco however was difficult. Despite embodying the arlecchino mask I
wanted Draco to keep an air of authority, the temperament I chose for Draco was Choleric This way
follow me, follow me this way now! .
All the exercises and techniques I used to develop Draco greatly helped me in perfecting his character,
from Lecoq s 7 states to chekov s centres.

Realism Iraq War
Various theories will be analyzed in this essay in order to conclude whether or not the conflict between
the U.S and Iraq was justified, legal, and why it was initiated. Liberal and realist perspectives will be
compared in order to establish whose opinion of the war was the most correct and reasonable. There
are many theories regarding this conflict, for instance, Iraq was thought to be in possession of
weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) and as a result, it was believed that Iraq posed a military threat
to the United States. Others believe that the principal motivation for the conflict was to gain further
access to Iraqi oil and in fact had nothing to do with the possession of weapons. Many also believe

From a realist perspective, the United States aimed to show that they will not fall under threat of
terrorism but due to the fact that the terrorist attacks prior (such as 9/11) were actually linked to Saudi
Arabia and not linked directly to Iraq in any way; it is disputed whether or not the attacks where only
a display of hegemony and not at all to do with the threat of terrorism. Realism is the most dominant
theory within International Relations but it has been criticized that realism poses arguments that are
lacking in detail and therefore lack credibility. A realist perspective does not help to determine the
decisions that will be made in relation to conflicts such as these as often they are made only in the best
interests of that specific country. The U.S. under George W. Bush appeared to take a strongly realist
view on the situation and reacted in a hubristic manner and in a way that was solely in the country s
own self interest. Realists, are well aware of the difficulty of spreading democracy, especially by
military means. They also understand that even if the enterprise is successful, that is no guarantee that
peace will break out. (Mearsheimer 2005) showing that there is no guarantee of peace when using
violent methods to solve conflicts and yet initiating an attack on Iraq was the first decision made. It
may have been more important at the time to point attention to other pressing issues as opposed to
creating more conflict, Other casualties of the war include the lack of progress made with state
building in Afghanistan, given the US focus on Iraq and the disproportionate allocation of resources
there. (Dunn, Tim Mulaj, Klejda 2010) There were pre existing conflicts between the United States

Pawel Kuczynski s Art Essay
Phones are the easiest and most common way to get connected. Through his art, Pawel Kuczynski is
warning the audience of problems that phones cause among people. The artist has created many
paintings to convey the idea of technology causing people to become separated and disconnected from
one another. Kuczynski s art could be seen as a metaphor for young people, being connected through
technology but still isolated in loneliness. Phones are most likely the most commonly used source of
communication in the world; which begs the question of how they could possibly be disconnecting
people. The title alone, Islands, suggests to the audience a sense of distance and isolation. That is also
conveyed in the painting itself with the use of perspective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The title again has reference to the picture but doesn t convey the actual meaning. There is a person
scrolling through their phone while the snow falls. The person has been there so long that a snow man
was made on his back. This another great use of satire by Kuczynski. He has developed such a playful
way of calling attention to these overarching societal problems that no one really seems to be talking
about. The person in the picture isn t really living his life. All of his time has been consumed with the
phone that only has virtual images on it. It s crazy how technology has done the opposite of what it
was intended to do. Instead of playing in the snow with his friends his just sitting out in the cold all
alone. Every time I go out I notice fewer people communicating with one another verbally. The
common thought is that social media, phones, and just technology in general connects people of all
kinds across the globe. Connecting with people through the use of technology has a few positives but
what about the overwhelming negative aspects. Millions of people can connect to children and other
adults with horrifying intentions. Cyberbullying is becoming prevalent in schools. Kids are being

Environmental Issues in North America and the World
Introduction North America has been struggling immensely since the last century with air and water
pollution, deforestation, and overpopulation. These struggles are due to poor prevention planning and
industrial manifestation. Pollution is changing the atmosphere much sooner than expected and global
warming is predicted to overwhelm the atmosphere within the next half of a century. In order to
sustain the environment and atmosphere humans must take immediate action right now. The longer we
wait to start immediate prevention, the sooner our air and water supplies will diminish. Unfortunately,
it is not only North America that needs to change it is many other countries and regions of the world.

Air Pollution and Global Warming The biggest cause of air pollution in North America comes from
carbon dioxide emissions. Fossil fuel, electricity, and vehicle technology has been an enormous
contribution to the emission of greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are gases that attract radiation
from the sun into the earth s exterior and its environment. Producing an overabundance of greenhouse
gases at a time may dramatically change the atmosphere as we know it today. The ozone layer that
protects human beings and many other species of plants and animals from the sun s excruciating rays
may deplete or be damaged due to too much pollution. The United States heavy demand of fossil fuels
for transportation is causing extreme confliction and competitiveness with many other countries. Japan
became so concerned with these issues that they devised a plan that could bring countries together to
compromise this extremely difficult issue. The Kyoto Protocol is a negotiation put together by the

Religion In Massachusetts Bay Colonies
The Puritan community of the Massachusetts Bay colony was primarily focused around church and
faith. In 1630, a mass exodus of Puritans moved from England to the colonies in an attempt to isolate
themselves and focus on their own religion. Puritans believed that they had a covenant with God,
meaning they were predestined for heaven.
In the colony of Massachusetts bay, around 9,000 Puritans settled down to make their own model
society based on religious purity. In their community, going to church was an absolute necessity. One
could not be part of the community unless they were members of the church. The government and
religion were so closely woven that they were nearly the same thing. When town meetings were held,

Once on a Monday morning, Sizar was walking down the street to meet his cousin so they can go eat.
out of nowhere, a weird machine came out of thin air and said, come with me if you want to live. The
machine yelled. Sizar ran as fast as he can around the machine but right as he past it the whole world

mushroom explosion started raging with anger as it destroy everything in it s path [personification].
Sizar turned around and ran into the machine. A few second later Sizar saw the machine doors open
and he was suddenly in 1983 or at least it s what it said on the machine s calendar.
Sizar didn t know what was going on until a voice came out of nowhere to tell him that he is the new
time traveler. It went a little something like this hello Sir I am Ordis a AI designed to serve your every
need (Ordis is a talking computer). Sizar just stood there for a couple seconds then said WOOHOO I

people he is killing by not stopping the explosion. He took a picture of the ice cream and gave the

The Film Rocky Horror Picture Show The Character Dr. Frank...
In the film Rocky Horror Picture Show the character Dr. Frank N Furter sings the words, So I ll
remove the cause, but not the symptom (O Brien). In this cult classic musical written by Richard O
Brien follows a newly engaged couple through a sexual journey as they lose their innocence and start
to conform to traditional gender stereotypes. Today the youth of America are being bombarded with
conflicting ideas about gender, race and sex. These conflicting ideas can lead to skewed visions on
what defines masculinity and furthermore what defines femininity. Furthermore, sexual assault on
college campuses by men and particularly student athletes have come to the forefront of many news
headlines in recent years and while some believe that sexual assault stems from locker room culture ,
rather it stems from a skewed sense of masculinity that has been created over the years of consuming
media. Many try to educate these same men on what defines consent and how to properly act in sexual
situations, but this is merely trying put a temporary solution on a much larger issue. If people wanted
the systemic issue of sexual assault to be reduced, then the root cause must be removed. A twisted
view of masculinity is the root cause of many sexual assault because a twisted view of masculinity
causes unhealthy understanding of sexuality and consent.
Three main terms will be used in this essay and require a definition as to avoid confusion. Masculinity
is defined by Merriam Webster as,

Savannah s Desire To Go To America
If I were ever stuck in an island and a rich man asked me to marry him, I would say no, especially if
he was my father. Surrounded in a small isolated island, avoiding American commercialism is too hard
to ignore, especially if you want to go to America. In the CCNY theatrical adaption of the musical
book Jamaica by Yip Harburg, Fred Saidy and Harold Arlen, director and choreographer, Keith Lee
Grant conveyed the witty life of Savannah and her friends in the Caribbean island of Jamaica. With its
use of puppets and power points director Grant portrays the eagerness each character was in need to
get what they wanted. Savannahs desire to go to New York City, and Koli s true love to fight for her
was a love story I believe should not have finished with a good ending. The ending was cliché and
very happy to wrap up a story that involved incest and desperation of money. ... Show more content on

Within the fifth and the eighth weeks of prenatal development, the hard and the soft palate are formed.
If the palate is not yet formed, this is a cleft or/and palate. The signs of a child having a cleft lip or/and
palate is that the forehead can be overhanging. The lower jaw may take longer to develop. When the
child is born, there are many effects. The child has difficulties with eating, speaking, and also
breathing. With the excessive opening of the nostril, the child is more prone to frequent and
reoccurring ear infections. The nasal cavity is advised to be cleaned thoroughly and covered ever so
often. These ear infections can possibly cause hearing loss. When feeding the child, the cleft lip or
palate prevents effective suction. Small but frequent feedings maybe considered. This will help the
child get the nutrients and enough satisfaction. The child will also have difficulties with speech. This
may cause slurring of the words and incorrect pronunciation. Irregular positioning of the mouth,
malformed of the teeth structure and missing teeth can occur in the cleft lip or palate. Fluoride

Hofstede s Six Cultural Dimensions
Hofstede s Six Cultural Dimensions
The Hofstede s six cultural dimensions were created collectively by Geert Hofstede, Michael Bond,
and Michael Minkov. These dimensions of culture were created to view how values in the workplace
were influence by a particular culture of a given country. Essentially, it was a tool to describe how
workforces in different countries operate under their own culture. There are currently six different
dimensions of national cultures; power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism, masculinity,
long term orientation, and indulgence versus restraint. Professor Greet Hofstede was the creator of the
first four cultural dimensions, back in 1973. Roughly two decades later, Michael Bond with the
support of Hofstede created the fifth dimension, in 1991. Recently in the 2010, the last dimension was
added to the list, by Michael Minkov and his research team (Minkoy Hofstede, 2011). The first four
dimensions discovered by Hofstede, dealt with four different anthropological issues that were handled
differently from nation to nation. These issues involved; methods of coping with inequality and
uncertainty, relationships within a primary group, and the emotional significance of having been born
as male or female (National, n.d.). The fifth dimension is long term orientation. Long term orientation
provides the idea that a given culture or country prefers to do things in an old fashion manner or in a
modernized pragmatic approach. The last dimension,

The Book Thief By Marcus Zusak Essay In the novel The Book Thief written by Marcus Zusak, Max found himself in a situation where the propaganda that Hitler has set affected his life in many ways. With the help of Liesel s words and reading and the care that the Hubermanns gave, Max grew stronger and he had the courage to stand up and protect himself from the force that Hitler had set against the him and the Jews. By having the his power of will, Max was fighting Hitler in his own circumstances even if it s just in his imagination. When a Jew shows up at your place of residence in the early hours of the morning, in the very birthplace of Nazismn, you re likely to experience extreme levels of Discomfort, Anxiety, Disbelief and Paranoia. , The propaganda of Hitler was the most important aspect in the The Book Thief because it often set the mood that I was feeling and that feeling was sick and cringing while reading the Novel. Before the war, The Nazi s passed laws to effectively get rid of the Jews Human Rights and basically stripping and restricting them from being human . Max, The Jewish Fist Fighter , was a victim of the Propaganda and his presence served and reminded me the vast superiority that the German s had against the Jews during the Holocaust. This made me think so negatively on the Propaganda that was set against the Jews and completely disagreeing with the way Hitler was seeing things because of the fact that for Max to be, lucky , lucky meant that his home was the Hubermann s freezing basement ... • 6. Vygotsky Vs Piaget In the world of cognitive development , two of the most influential psychologists are Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky. Piaget s theory of cognitive development and Vygotsky s sociocultural theory had a profound impact on the field of cognitive development, and their contributions continue to influence psychologist, educators and researchers today. Both Vygotsky and Piaget s theories provide a different perspective on how children learn, and by looking at both theories, we can better understand a child s cognitive development. At the beginning of his career, Jean Piaget considered himself to be a genetic epistemologist (McLeod,2015). Because of his desire to understand how knowledge emerges, Piaget decided to study human development, specifically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first stage, Piaget looked at understanding object permanence which is recognizing if an object still exist even when it is out of sight (Cardwell Flanagan,2004). Children below the age of two failed to grasp the concept. Next, Piaget examined if children, in pre operational stage, could understand the logic. He did this by seeing if children could understand that despite the change of the appearance of an object, it would remain the same (Cardwell Flanagan, 2004). In his conservation experiment, Piaget showed children identical glass full of equal amount of liquid. He then pours the liquid of one the glasses in a taller narrow glass. After which, he would ask the child, what glass has more? . Inevitably, the child would say the tall the narrow glass, believing it contained more liquid because of the height of the glass (Cardwell Flanagan, 2004). Piaget believed that this was caused by centration , and was based on perception instead of logic (Cardwell Flanagan, 2004). The importance of Piaget s work cannot be understated. His theory of cognitive development continues to influence research today. In a recent study, researchers decided to take a closer look at early brain development as it pertains to Piaget s sensorimotor stage. They discovered that the nerve pathway that carries information such as eye, head, neck and trunk coordination is one of the earliest central nervous systems to myelinate, allowing the infant s early sucking, grasping, and the following objects just as Piaget describes in his early stage of development (Lefman ... It was also set up as if it was a house with couches and tables but they were not for sitting on and so it just takes up space. It can be distracting from actual paintings displayed there. However, other then the distractions the mahogany wood was beautiful. It almost transported the viewers into a different time period. It was a weird choice when compared to the rest of the museum, but if you were to examine just those two rooms by their selves then you can appreciate the effort took in designing the setup. The last thing that has not been addressed with the critique is the setup of the gift shop, however, I personally did not get the opportunity to look into the gift shop so I can not comment on its setup, but if the gift shop is anything like the rest of the museum then I am sure that it is a nice store with great products for sale. Although the movie, Little Women, shares many basic components with the book by Louisa May Alcott, there are still many differences which set them apart, such as directors choice, dramatic irony, feelings and much more. The director of the movie, Little Women chose to keep mostly true to the book, while adding some scenes that helped the movie show more emotions that made it a bit more like the book. For example, in the beginning, of the movie the director had a scene where Laurie sitting at the window, watching the girls deliver food to their neighbors, which wasn t a part of the book. I think the director did this because he wanted us to know that he would be in the movie later on. Although this was a difference, one similarity was how Jo and Laurie met. In both they met at a party, Laurie was standing behind a curtain because he was shy, and Jo ended up behind that curtain because she was trying to get away from a guy that wanted to ask her to dance. I think the director chose to keep this because it shows that Jo is more of a mischievous person, which is described in the book, but is shown in the movie. In stability, leads can lead to conflict, but nationalism has a similar effect in a stressful situation like the 1930 s in Germany. Nationalism important to the formation of Germany. However, it can have some serious conquests because of the emphasis on a shared culture, history, and language. This by nature makes nationalism exclusive; it forces states to create who are its people. Hitler uses nationalism to his advantage to sow doubt to his supports that Jews were not German. Nationalism allowed for non Jewish Germans to understand that Jewish were not like them. For the fact that Jewish had a shared history, culture, and langue that is different from other Germans. The creation of shared identities allows for those who appear to not have these qualifications to be discriminated against. When a nation holds tightly to nationalistic standards it leads down a path towards a genocide. Hitler speeches and writing are based on who is German. Studying the Holocaust shows that nations must take a more multicultural perspective and legal basis for defining citizens. A policy based on emotion does not create the best policy for a state. This goes back to physiologically how people think about others, and in moving towards both extremes of the political spectrum there is black and white thinking. The morality about sex had a main aim: An ideal of purity based on a chastity code which emphasized the relevance of premarital continence. In order to keep this chastity code, anything related to sex was silenced in an attitude of deliberated ignorance, an attitude of rejection of sex, especially in women, who usually associated sex with a marital duty. The Victorian education tried to introduce, especially in young men, an attitude towards women based on respect. They were taught to think of women as sisters or even as angels rather than human beings. This kind of education tried to separate completely love from sex and it was not especially oriented to girls because women were supposed to not have any kind of sexual desire. Any kind of sexual expression is limited to marriage, and even, sexual relationships in marriage were only justified for procreation. The main source of this code of purity and virtue is the resurgence of Puritanism in the last decades of 18th century (Methodism and Evangelical movement). There was a revival of the old traditions which were very conservative and especially repressed of any sexual behaviour. The Victorian Age s morality also condemned any kind of sexual reference in literature. I saw Ben using skills such as, pointing to the words as he read them. However, he often pointed twice, or skipped pointing to particular words altogether. In addition to this, while reading Ben omitted and added new words without self correction. This made me think that this was his way of trying to understand the text. This also leads me to believe that Ben is having some difficulty with word recognition and fluency/pace. When Ben read the book the second time he used the pictures to read the story with no regard for the text. This tells me that he is able to interpret the pictures in order to understand the story when he is not able to read the sentences. The second lesson I observed was geared towards phonemes, segmenting and blending. Ms. Cameron did a lot of modeling before this lesson. Although I have only been in her class twice, I can tell she is a firm believer in the I do, we do, you do method. Ms. Cameron gathered all the students on the rug and showed the class how to tap out different sounds of the letters in words like sit, mud, sad using their fingertips. Neuroplasticity In The Brain This editorial concerns an interesting paper, recently published in Acta Physiologica, showing evidence that the focus of attention internal or external during execution of a motor task can cause transient neuroplastic like responses in motor areas of the brain (Khun et al., 2016). Neuroplasticity refers to the capacity of the brain to reorganise itself in response to our experiences throughout life. Typically, changes to the organization of the brain come about to support brain function. For instance, after a spinal cord injury or stroke, the brain must adapt to allow functional recovery (Rao et al., 2016). The recognition that the brain must change to improve function has led to several attempts to boost neuroplasticity. Cutting edge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anthem Racism Essay Are all of the different types of national anthem protest in the NFL equally effective at protesting racial injustices in the US, or are they all just being disrespectful to the flag and the country? There are many ways players and teams are protesting the National Anthem in the NFL today. The Seattle Seahawks locked arms and stood, the Pittsburgh Steelers didn t even come onto the field, and the Arizona Cardinals were allowed to do whatever they felt was right. All of these teams claimed that they were demonstrating unity and standing up for racial equality. The most effective way was demonstrated by the Seahawks because they displayed their stance on racial injustices in the most professional way. And while it is clear that these protests have made an uproar in the NFL community, it is not clear on how effective all the different types of protests are. This is not the first time professional athletes have protested racial injustices in front of the entire nation to see. During the 1968 Olympics runners Tommie Smith and John Carlos held a fist in the air while wearing beads and cloth for shoes to protest the lynching and poverty of African Americans. And in 1996, Mahmoud Abdul Rauf, a point guard in the NBA, was suspended a game for sitting during the National Anthem. His reason for sitting was that it was against his religion. Infrastructure based networks are traditional cellular systems which require base station infrastructure. Wireless LANs are very flexible within the reception area. It requires low bandwidth when compared to wired networks. Ad Hoc networks are useful when the infrastructure is not available, impractical or expensive to build. In Cellular Wireless, spaces are divided into cells. Each cell consists of base stations which is responsible to communicate with the hosts in its cell. Hosts moves from one cell to cell to another and hand off occurs, the new base station takes care of the communication. In Multi hop wireless, mobility causes a change of route. Hence it need to traverse multiple links to reach destination. Ad hoc network is a self organizing multi hop wireless network, which relies neither on infrastructure nor on the predetermined connectivity. Rapid deployment of mobile users will be the need for the next generation wireless communication systems. A mobile ad hoc network is a collection of mobile users that communicate over constrained wireless links with lower bandwidth. One model that de Botton discusses is one where an individual takes their successes and failures to be upon themselves. He mentions that individuals who take responsibility for their failures, as much as they do their successes, are more likely to have low self esteem and career anxiety. With this lack of confidence and added stress, de Botton concludes that it is difficult to find one s kinder, gentler . . . success because an individual will fear the judgment that will surround their mistakes and the resulting negative effect on their reputation which are all due to the mistakes that stem from their own fault. Realism is the most dominant theory within International Relations but it has been criticized that realism poses arguments that are lacking in detail and therefore lack credibility. A realist perspective does not help to determine the decisions that will be made in relation to conflicts such as these as often they are made only in the best interests of that specific country. And yes, I hike in sunny Arizona, but weather snaps here on the trails like most any ridge or mountain. Make sure your hiking clothing will keep you safe and uncompromised in the elements. 8. Sunscreen We all burn. Some more easily than others, but the sun has it s way with us all in the end. Don t come home with an embarrassing sunburn. I prefer SPF 35, but the most important number is one. Bring at least one bottle of sunscreen and apply before you hit the hiking trail. Seasoned day hikers know the importance of sunscreen and protecting their skin from excess rays. 9. Post hike Shoes There s nothing quite like the feeling of kicking off your shoes after a long day of work. Multiply that feeling by a million after you ve gone hiking. I normally have my Chacos waiting for me in the car, but some normal flip flops or sneakers should do. Air Pollution and Global Warming The biggest cause of air pollution in North America comes from carbon dioxide emissions. Fossil fuel, electricity, and vehicle technology has been an enormous contribution to the emission of greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are gases that attract radiation from the sun into the earth s exterior and its environment. Producing an overabundance of greenhouse gases at a time may dramatically change the atmosphere as we know it today. The ozone layer that protects human beings and many other species of plants and animals from the sun s excruciating rays may deplete or be damaged due to too much pollution. The United States heavy demand of fossil fuels for transportation is causing extreme confliction and competitiveness with many other countries. Japan became so concerned with these issues that they devised a plan that could bring countries together to compromise this extremely difficult issue. The Kyoto Protocol is a negotiation put together by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The treaty was compromised in Kyoto, Japan in 1997. • 45. Hofstede s Six Cultural Dimensions Hofstede s Six Cultural Dimensions The Hofstede s six cultural dimensions were created collectively by Geert Hofstede, Michael Bond, and Michael Minkov. These dimensions of culture were created to view how values in the workplace were influence by a particular culture of a given country. Essentially, it was a tool to describe how workforces in different countries operate under their own culture. There are currently six different dimensions of national cultures; power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism, masculinity, long term orientation, and indulgence versus restraint. Professor Greet Hofstede was the creator of the first four cultural dimensions, back in 1973. Roughly two decades later, Michael Bond with the support of Hofstede created the fifth dimension, in 1991. Recently in the 2010, the last dimension was added to the list, by Michael Minkov and his research team (Minkoy Hofstede, 2011). The first four dimensions discovered by Hofstede, dealt with four different anthropological issues that were handled differently from nation to nation. These issues involved; methods of coping with inequality and uncertainty, relationships within a primary group, and the emotional significance of having been born as male or female (National, n.d.). The fifth dimension is long term orientation. Long term orientation provides the idea that a given culture or country prefers to do things in an old fashion manner or in a modernized pragmatic approach. The last dimension, ...
