Composing Gender Analysis
In society, people are told to fit certain molds regarding how they are represented in the media
such as movies, advertisements, and standards that are set by society. Both men and women are
depicted in different ways in American society with unattainable standards that can only be
achieved by photoshop or body surgery and alterations. Women are envisioned having the ideal
body type that s shown in media. They re assumed to be emotional and delicate by much of society.
Men are often expected to be muscular while not showing other people their emotions other than
aggression and power. There are different ideal body types throughout the world, America for
example has an unreachable standard that s set through uses of photoshop and other alterations that
can cause some people to develop emotional disorders. In the book, Composing Genderby Rachael
Groner and John O Hara, it explains how gender is a social construct and how people are often
under set gender standards which plays into McDonaldization theory. The McDonaldization theory
is explained as the use... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

people will lose weight by refusing to eat and becoming extremely thin in some cases. The ideal
body type that America sees has a huge impact on young people by shaming them for their body
type if it doesn t fit the standards. People can lose their self esteem when they re constantly

Erasmus And The Renaissance Humanism
Desiderius Erasmus, believed to be the illegitimate son of a Priest named Gerard, was born
around 1466 in the Netherlands. He is also believed to have been born with a different name,
and his birthday is unknown because he was born out of wedlock. Despite this, his father made
sure he had a good education by sending him to a prestigious Latin school when he was 9 years
old. However, when Erasmus s parents died, he was sent to live with guardians who strongly
believed that he should become a Monk. During this time, Erasmus gained a personal
relationship with God but was opposed to the strict rules and teachings of the school. Poverty
eventually forced Erasmus into a monastery in 1492, where he was ordained a Catholic priest.
He then became the secretary for Henry de Bergen, the bishop of Chambray, which allowed him
to travel across Europe for the next ten years to study Latin and literature. These studies led to
his discovery of Renaissance humanism. In the early 1500s, not long after his travels, Erasmus
was invited to lecture in theology at the University of Cambridge and it was during this time that
Erasmus began to publish literature showing his some of his new ideas and criticisms of society
and the church. These ideas started to become well known after he published one of his early
works, Praise of Folly. His ideas stood out from others of the time and sparked debate all over
Europe. These ideas are strikingly similar to those made famous by Martin Luther, however, as

Applying The World Is Flat to Canada
Title: The World is Flat Canada and the Flat World There are many challenges and opportunities
that the Flat World has provided and allowed for in the world we live today. Canada needs to be
prepared for this Flat World. The following hopefully explores just that. 1. How has/does a flat
world impact world trade and Canada. The flat world, with the advent of advancements and
exposure to technology, infrastructure, culture, cost, education, political change and ideology has
changed both World Trade and Canada has a whole. The flat world has changed a traditional top
down (vertical) type command and control to a horizontal one (collaborate and connect), in our
global economy. This in turn impacts the World and Canada.... Show more content on

The approach described in the book is excellent one, to establish and emphasize in education. It
focuses on four strategies. 1) The ability to learn how to learn be inspired and love doing it. 2) Be
passionate and curious. Having strong combination of curiosity quotient and passionate quotient
would foster motivation, innovation and creativity, and thus self education in turn developing the
individual s intelligence quotient. 3) Development of strong interpersonal/interactive skills. This
shall allow for strong interactions with other people within the collaborative world. 4)
Development of the right hemisphere of the brain, which addresses relationship skills, and
creativity, and seeing the big picture . An area that I would also emphasize in education that is not
really focused on is financial education. Being able to understand and interpret how the economic
and financial aspects of the global marketplace work would be a very strong asset to students. This
includes understanding financial reporting, investment strategies, and application of financial well
being (i.e. minimization of debt, asset acquisition and allocation, etc.). In terms of de emphasizing
teaching activities I would address some minimization of low skill type elective courses which
may potentially detrimental for student growth and development. 5. What are the specific
challenges for Managers to be better equipped to work in a flat world?

Post War America Civil Rights Analysis
Post War America: Civil Rights Immediately after the Second World War, America witnessed a
period of increased prosperity and economic success by way of continued expansion of the
industry. This was a continuation of what was witnessed after the First World War, where the
United Stated of America emerged as a winner and a new superpower in world politics. Most
certainly, all races were involved in combat by way of being drafted into service. The GI Bill of
Right of 1944 this legislation that provided money for education and other benefits to military
personnel returning from World War II (Foner, 2014). However, the benefits that accrued favored
the whites more as opposed to the blacks who were in all ways involved in the combat. In this case,
the other minority groups which were feeling subjugated started to forcefully voice out their
concerns and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The urgency and energy were now directed to the emancipation of such groups from continuing
oppression and subjugation. During this period (1960 going forward) the civil rights movement
now engaged the governments directly requiring that their rights be protected. The violent
protests and boycotts which ensued gave the movement a sense of urgency. This necessitated
more organized forms of engagement for instance by way of civil rights organizations organized
both by students and the citizens everywhere. Notably, this period saw the emergence of notable
figures such as Malcolm X, Adam Clayton Powell and Martin Luther King Jnr. Their heroism,
regardless of the different tactics employed totally changed the civil rights movement. This
urgency was aided by the efforts by the Conservative wing of congress to block all social policies
that were brought forward by John F Kennedy. This has inspired hope and made the American
people believe ion the ideal of equality and utmost respect for the dignity of all persons and

To what extent was the Second Reich an entrenched autocracy between 1900 1914?
In the years 1900 1914 there was arguably a significant move towards democracy within Germany.
There were general desire for political and social reform and many wished for constitutional
change. However, come 1914 Germany still remained nearly as autocratic as it had been back in
1900. Over this period it can clearly be shown through 3 key areas: the Constitution, German policy
and events, that, regardless of attempted moves towards democracy, Germany truly was an
entrenched autocracy in this period.
The German Imperial Constitution of 1871 was widely regarded by contemporaries to be one of
the most democratic in the world. People commented at the time ... Show more content on

This meant the rapid expansion of the Imperial German Navy through successive Naval Laws.
The Agadir Crisis July 1, 1911 is a clear example of this change in policy. During the crisis, the
German government deployed the large Panther gunboat to intervene in the conflict rather than
resorting to diplomacy from the outset. Flottenpolitik was an integral part of this in that it aimed
to create a navy to rival that of Britain which would whip up patriotic feeling. This all followed the
idea of Social Imperialism which was an attempt to buttress the position of the elites at the top of
Germany s class system by diverting the masses away from social and political reform and
towards a populist acceptance of the Kaiser and the Kaiserreich (Geoff Layton). Once again this
support for the Kaiser was voluntary but was subtly influenced by the Germans peoples want for
international recognition. It was internationally undemocratic but the aggressive foreign policy got
people to back the Kaiser as he initiated it. The more powerful Germany became and the more
recognition they got internationally the more the Kaiser s position was protected and his

Cupid Chastised Art Analysis
The Cupid Chastised painting was made in 1613 in the early Italian Baroque era by Bartolomeo
Manfredi. The painting is 69 x 51 3/8 inches, and painted with Oil paints on canvas. While staring
at this painting you can see that with each brushstroke that was made you can see that this painting
was an obviously inspired from Caravaggio s work. Caravaggio s style of paintingis very
recognizable for its realism, intense chiaroscuro and has the effect that makes you feel as if you
are a part of the scenery. Most of Manfredi s painting has as the Caravaggio s style to help his
paintings to have more dramatic action. In the Italian Baroque era there were many followers of
Caravaggio, called the Caravaggisti; Caravaggio influenced his follower by having... Show more

When seeing this painting in person we see all the lines and colors really pop out as opposed to
seeing it in a text book. You see that the images are much clearer in person giving us sharper
appearances of the subject matters. With Manfredi being a member of the Caravaggisti, and
therefore; we see Caravaggio like methods in the painting; such as the darken background, and
the one source lighting. With the background being very dark not only does it allow you to
focus more on the subject matter of the piece but it allows for the gloomy emotional aspect of it
to be displayed. With the one source lighting in this painting it permits for Cupid s skin to look
like actual perfect flesh. The lighting allows Manfredi to show off his skills on how well can he
imitate the human flesh by having the layers of red, giving the painting life, and the layers of
blue, giving the paint translucently. The lighted areas that is caused by the once source of light
focuses on the main parts of the composition; the flying doves, the Mars arm holding Cupid s
wrist, Cupid, and the Venus shoulder and arm. Like most of Caravaggio s paintings, the one
source lighting helps Manfredi to displays Leonardo s Golden triangle method. Just like
Caravaggio s paintings, Manfredi uses the Golden triangle method so that the viewer s eye is

Jesus Is Not Ashamed And Call You Brother
Jesus is not ashamed to call you brother. Let that sink in a little. Don t rush past that sentence. You.
With everything you thought about yesterday (yeah, he heard those thoughts) and the temptations
to which you yielded (yeah, he saw that too). Yes, you, struggling Christian. Jesus is not ashamed to
call you brother (or sister).
As I recently read Hebrews, I was struck in a fresh way with the power of this reality. Jesus is not
ashamed to be associated with me. And not simply in a friend sort of way or even a servant sort of
way. The Bible says that Jesus calls me friend and servant but it also says more. His pride of
association with me is on the familial level. He is not ashamed that I am a part of his family. But not
only is he not ashamed of me, he delights in me. The writer of Hebrews goes on later to say that it
was for the joy set before him that he endured the cross. What was that joy set before him? It was
me. And it was you. Brothers and sisters added to the family of God that they might reign with Him
in the new heavens and the new earth. When Jesus looks at us, he is proud.
But I fear that while we would all check the box and say we believe this truth, in practice we fail to
live out its implications.
Personal Implications
Too many Christians walk through life as if the Gospel is not true. When we sin, we rightly feel
the conviction of the Holy Spirit. And rather than boldly coming before the throne of grace in our
time of need, we cower and shrink

Gender Inequality In Canadian Society
Women experience inequality in nearly every aspect of their lives. Although many improvements
have been made in the past few decades, there still remains a need for feminism in Canadian
society; factors such as the industrial revolution, the glass ceiling and poverty have contributed to
gender inequality within Canada today. There seem to be many misconceptions surrounding the
intent and purpose of feminists, however, true feminismis simply defined as equal rights between
men and women, thus resulting in complete equality. (115).
Canada is a country with a considerably modern and liberal mindset; however, gender inequality is
still present in everyday life. Although society has remained predominantly patriarchal, the
expectations for men and women differed prior to the 1800s, and less inequality was experienced
than is currently experienced. Along ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Teaching Research Methods Within The Classroom
Abstract
Psychology undergraduates are required to study research methods within their course.
Psychology undergraduates are required to study research methods within their course. Within this
are many different statistical definitions which have been considered the most challenging aspect of
the curriculum.
An individual undergraduate psychology student took part in this study. The study aimed to
increase the accuracy and fluency of the recall of these definitions by applying an intervention
phase of reading through SAFMEDS cards aloud previous to recalling them in one minute. The
SAFMEDS cards were made up of key statistical concepts taken from a study guide which is core to
the research methods module. Results indicated that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is more of a requirement now as students are being given greater opportunities within their
course due to the new resources being put into psychology departments. Part of this means that
students are now able to conduct their own research within the third year of their degree, meaning
they need a deep level of understanding for statistics in order to accumulate adequate conclusions
from their results.
Precision teaching (PT) has proved to be an effective tool when aiming to teach students material
fluently and accurately. Lindsley (1990) showed that students in precision teaching classrooms
who were told to keep records of their own academic and non academic performance and use
these records to guide their performance and eventually lead to more academic success due to the
visual representation they had. This element of precision teaching is particularly useful as
learners who improve this way are susceptible to fluency based procedures which often consist of
SAFMEDS or packs of cards similar to this. SAFMEDS are typically used to help students become
fluent in definitions and basic concepts, in this experiment they are being used to improve a base of
knowledge on research methods within psychology.

Dehydration Lab Report
Hydration plays a fundamental role in body function. As such, fluid intake and excretion are tightly
regulated by various heterogeneous body mechanisms that work together to maintain a homeostatic
fluid balance. Fluid and solute balance affects every organ system in the body, especially, the
cardiovascular system, the nervous system, the genitourinary system, and the various fluid
compartments such as the interstitial and intracellular spaces. Dehydration occurs when there is an
extracellular fluid volume deficit and can originate from a variety of diverse causes. It can be the
result of insufficient fluid intake, excess fluid loss, or a combination of the two. Common causes of
excessive fluid loss that lead to dehydration include unmonitored... Show more content on

These mechanisms include activation of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS), which elicits
systemic vasoconstriction (via catecholamine binding of О±1 receptors) in an attempt to increase
peripheral vascular resistance (PVR), and increases heart rate (via catecholamines binding to ОІ1
receptors) in an attempt to increase CO, both of which are fundamental components of the blood
pressure equation. This is done to maintain an adequate perfusion pressure in order to oxygenate the
tissues and prevent hypoxic cell injury. If hypovolemia is present, the body will first shunt the
blood away from less critical organs such as the GI tract in order to maintain perfusion of critical
organs such as the brain, the heart system, and the kidneys. If hypovolemia and tissue
hypoperfusion are severe enough, major organ damage will occur as a result of hypoxia (Copstead
Banasik, 2013). This patient experienced clear signs of systemic tissue hypoperfusion secondary to
severe hypovolemia as evidenced by his syncopal episode (cerebral hypoperfusion), his persistent
pressure like chest pain (myocardial ischemia), and his acute renal failure (renal hypoperfusion).
The fact that these critical organs were affected indicates just how severe his state of hypovolemia,
hypotension, and hypoperfusion

The genre I chose to review for the month of October was an American Movie, The Revenant.
Directed by Alejandro GonzГЎlez IГ±ГЎrritu this film is set in 1823 in Montana and South

frontiersman who is half Native American and has a Native American son named Hawk. The
movie revolves around his struggles as a father and his comeback after being attacked by a bear and
almost dying, losing his son, and being left behind by his own men. In the end a Native

The movie also has merit because of the emotion that is displayed by the main characters during
their long and difficult journey throughout the movie. Overall, The Revenant was an emotional and
suspenseful journey through Hugh Glass s struggles as an American Frontiersman.
The connection to American culture is strong in this movie because of its setting and the
characters involved. The setting is in South Dakota and Montana. The time period is the winter
of 1823, a popular time for the American Frontier. Many of the scenes in the movie show
extreme cold and lots of snow. For example, when Hugh Glass is wounded and running from an
Indian Tribe on a horse, he jumps off a cliff with the horse. He then precedes to open the horse
and gut it. Then he goes inside of the horse and falls asleep. This horse s bodies saved him from

Introduction . In High Acute Settings, Such As Intensive
Introduction
In high acute settings, such as intensive care units essential nursing care such as oral care is very
vital to prevent life threatening complications such as nosocomial acquired, Ventilator Associated
Pneumonia (VAP), and also most patients in intensive care are on oral intubation, and medications
such as anticholinergics, antihypertensives, which may lead to xerostomia (dry mouth). One of the
challenging nosocomial infections is VAP, and a leading cause of mortality in hospital patients in
high acuity settings (Jones, 2007). The development of VAP is occurred due to mechanical
ventilation, longer ICU stays and longer intubation periods, increasing the mortality of ICU patients
to as high as 70 per cent (Jones, 2007). Good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which may further lead to prioritising oral care as a less priority for nurses than other aspects of
care (H. Jones et al., 2004). In turn, even the tapes that are used in the fixation of the tube quickly
become heavily contaminated with the bacterium in the existence of salivary secretions and the
hitches associated with cleaning the mouth (Abidia, 2007). So, they have greater susceptibility to
nosocomial acquired infections such as ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) (Zurmehly, 2013).
Patients who are intubated are also forced to keep their mouths open which leads to xerostomia,
caused due to dryness of oral mucosa (Miranda, de Paula, de Castro Piau, Costa, Bezerra, 2016).
Furthermore, patients who may have some medical conditions have oral manifestations such as
diabetes, Crohn s disease, Leukaemia (H. Jones et al., 2004). In order to prevent these life
threatening complications, it is important to prioritise oral care as an essential nursing priority in
high acuity settings by doing appropriate and more frequent oral assessments followed by mouth
care with an evidence based approach.
Oral Assessment
To initiate interventions, patients oral care requirements are to be identified. To process and
evaluate, assessment needs to be performed. Evidence suggested oral assessment should be
performed using a checklist within the 24 hours

Abolishing Death Penalty
The future of the death penalty lies unclear in the cross country battle over whether or not it should
be abolished. The death penalty should in fact be abolished because of the extreme costs and
painful time involved to house and execute inmates, the indecision of which method of execution is
the most humane, and the increasing number of innocent inmates being wrongfully executed.
The number of death sentences peaked at about 315 in 1996, but last year dropped to only 73. In

capital punishment has led to the states disliking. One aspect of capital punishment that has
displeased average American citizens is all the attention on death row prisoners, making rock stars
out of killers. Many believe the money and attention should be spent on more serious issues like
disease or poverty or even on the struggling families of the victims. However, the crime rate jumped
122% from 1963 to 1980, and maybe that is why capital punishment is needed. The fear of being
executed will diminish the amount of murders and crimes in the country, and that if we protect
guilty lives then innocent lives will be given up in exchange. But by reinforcing the death
penalty, innocents could be wrongly executed. Take for example Anthony Ray Hinton. Hinton
spent 30 years on Alabama s death row after being convicted for two murders at age 29. But due
to a defense lawyer s mistakes in 1985, he was granted a new hearing and was found innocent.
After being freed he said, I spent 30 years on death row for something I didn t do. This supports
my argument in that if all this time and money is spent on protecting the death penalty to come to a
clear verdict, than there should never be a wrong conviction. The risk of wrongful convictions is
greater if the

given great importance throughout history.
Prior to thermodynamic research, the concept of heat transfer in materials was thought of as being a

He later established the general theory of specific heats by observing the amount of heat required to
raise the temperature of different substances by the same temperature interval.
In 1819, the French physicists Pierre Louis Dulong and Alexis ThГ©rГЁse Petit observed that the
heat capacity per atom for metals were extremely similar within the temperature range of 300 500K.
They determined heat capacities by surrounding the bulb of a mercury thermometer with a hot
powdered sample and subsequently monitoring the cooling rate [2]. Since their experimental results
for the heat capacities of different metals were close to that of an average, 3R, where R is the
universal gas constant, it was concluded and accepted that the value of the heat capacity of an
element is constant.
In 1892, Sir James Dewar performed experiments in the pursuit of determining the specific heat
capacity of palladium. He measured the rise in the volume of vapour produced when placing the
solid in boiling liquid. In doing so he invented the Dewar flask by placing a brass container within
another container and depriving the gap between them of air, creating near vacuum conditions.
In 1907 Albert Einstein made the first attempt to apply quantum theory to the molar heat capacity
of solids [1] He made two assumptions: each atom in the lattice of a material is an independent
quantum harmonic oscillator and that all vibrational modes

Are Electromagnetic Field Melt Metal Screw Nuts ( Zinc,...
Research Question and Engineering Goal: Can an electromagnetic field melt metal screw nuts
(zinc, brass, and stainless steel)? Our engineering goal is to create a device that will form an
electromagnetic field that has the ability to melt an assortment of metals. It might look like magic;
however, it is just science!
Background: Electromagnetic Field: (noun) a field that is made up of associated electric and
magnetic components that result from the motion of an electric charge. It also possesses a definite
amount of electromagnetic energy. Electromagnetic fields, or EMFs, is sometimes referred to as
radiation. We are exposed to EMFs almost all the time. Almost all of the electronics or powered
devices have some sort of electromagnetism in them. This includes your cell phone, kitchen
appliances, television, lights, and computer. Electric door bells also use electromagnetic fields.
When the button is pushed it signals for the coil to get electrified, then the bell sounds all because
of the electromagnetic force. Perhaps the most well known application in society is Japan s
magnetically levitating bullet train. It s capable of going up to 500 km/h without even touching
the tracks. They have used the idea of electromagnetism to make magnets instead of wheels that
have the ability to propel the train along with the help of electricity. This train is the fastest of it s
kind so far, but the idea is sure to spread because of the possibilities (which seem

Kanye West
This picture is a perfect portrayal of celebrity culture in today s era. The desire to be virtually
connected and share everything in one s life is the new trend. And this has resulted from the
constant competition from the new community of microcelebrities , which is based on achieving
fame through broadcasting oneself through media. One of the demeaning aspect of the picture is
the lack of genuineness and enforcement of stylish lifestyle on the audience which makes it loose
the emotional quotient.
For me, the picture represents three key elements Kanye West, who achieved success because of his
songs, then Kim Kardashian, who rose to fame through the infamous sex tape and built her media
empire over it and finally the baby, North West, who is unaware of her surroundings where she will
be in constant gaze and would have to struggle, like her parents, to depict herself according to their
social stature. According to Braudy, this urge to be unique and constant competition is what drives

This study was performed to put more explanation of how non dipping circadian blood pressure
works as far as cardiac output and vascular resistance are related to it. The non dipping pattern is
an established predictor of bad heart outcomes and researchers want to know more about what it
depends on. There are 140 African American and white men and women with elevated clinical
blood pressure. There are readings taken during the day and the night for each participant of
various hemodynamic values. This is a prospective cohort study. There is no control group
present in this study. Using the criterion of less than 10% dip in SBP, there were 51 non dippers
and 89 dippers. There was almost no change in cardiac output for all participants between night
time and day time. However, vascular resistance decreased from daytime to night time, but non
dippers compared with dippers exhibited a significant decrease in vascular resistance from
daytime to night time. Relative to the white participants, African Americans also exhibited dipping
as well as a decrease in vascular resistance. ANOVA analysis was used to calculate statistical
significance. In the context of high BP, these findings suggest that non dipping may be a
manifestation, or marker, of more advanced vascular disease. The non dipping pattern of circadian

Analysis Of Judith Lorber s Susan M. Gilbert And Susan...
When you scroll through a college course catalog, there are always literature classes like 19th
Century British Literature by Women, African American Literature, Queer Literature , etc.
Granted, there is value to teaching courses focuses around those segments of literature; however,
courses called Books by Straight White Men or American Male Literature almost never seem to
pop up. That s not to say those books aren t taught in the college classroom; they just don t need
to be labeled a certain way or qualified as a different category they are the standard, the baseline.
In the same way, we normally don t look at literature through a masculine lens unless we are
comparing it with feminist literature. Why do we see men as the prototype of an author? Why do we
utilize the term femaleauthor if we are talking about a woman, but just author if it s a man?
In Judith Lorber s essay, Susan M. Gilbert and Susan Gubar s essay The Madwoman in the Attic,
they claim The poet s pen is in some sense (even more than figuratively) a penis (Gilbert 4). Many
prominent female authors have spoken to the fact that males are seen at the supremes in the world
of femininity, including Virginia Woolf, Alice Walker, and Adrienne Rich. Their commentary
seems to point to a historical common sense of males being more skilled at creative work and the
male superiority to complex as white, male authors as the standard of authorship, with all other

The Japanese Criminal Justice System
For some time now, the Japanese criminal justice system has been regarded or perceived to be a
successful justice system model. The success is mainly attributed to Japan s culture and even
embedded in the language itself (Goold, 2004). The success has drawn interest among criminology
scholars and practitioners either for the purpose of broadening their knowledge or to emulate its
criminal justicesystem (Ebbe, 2000). The interest is based on statistical data that indicate low
levels of criminality in the developed nation of Japan in comparison to others. From these statistics,
it would imply that Japan s way of dealing with crimeis more effective in its prevention. While the
statistic might be solid, the texts on the criminal system may... Show more content on

The benefits of this kind of success are sure to be present and for that matter welcomed. However,
I will also evaluate at what cost that this haven of peace comes about. Clear examples will
accompany any argument and statements as support of a claim.
The history of Japan s criminal justice system is important if one wishes to understand completely
how the system operates and borrow from it. Before the Second World War, Japan was mostly
isolated from the rest of the world except for some trading activities with Portugal. Due to this
Western or rather European, the influence in the country was minimal. Japan was, therefore, able to
retain some of its strong traditional legal systems despite incorporating some aspects from the
French, Chinese, and Americans.
However; after WWII, Japan was forced to adopt the American legal approaches to the constitution
and human rights due to the post war agreement that was signed (Reichel, 2002). The Japanese
however did not abandon their systems all together as they continued to use the informal ways of
conflict resolution through mediation, consensus, and compromise. The formal systems were then
used in combination with these. Aside from the informal procedures used by police and citizens to
resolve disputes, the Japanese system have a highly centralised and organised criminal justice
system (Dammer, Albanese, 2013). To Australian s it resembles something of a familiar system
with two national policing agencies, a hierarchical

The Civil War Era Was A Period Of Major Medical...
The Civil War era was a period of major medical advancement. New breakthroughs during this time
period had a great effect on the results of the battles and the war as a whole. Advancements in
medical procedures, sanitation, infection control, field hospitals and triage, nursing techniques, and
the development of the American Red Cross all greatly impacted the mortality rates of soldiers in
both the Union and the Confederate armies during the American Civil Warin both positive and
negative ways.
Amputations were the most effective and renowned surgical technique during this time period.
Amputations were wildly taboo procedures that caused much controversy at the time. By some they
were considered butchery and many questioned the military surgeons qualifications to perform such
aberrant procedures. One doctor wrote, The surgery of these battle fields has been pronounced
butchery. Gross misrepresentations of the medical officers have been made and scattered broadcast
over the country, causing deep and heart rending anxiety to those who had friends or relatives in the
army, who might at any moment require the services of a surgeon.... Despite their contentious
depictions, amputations proved to be extremely effective. As opposed to losing three fourths of
their patients afflicted by gunshot wounds to blood loss and infection they now lost only one fourth
of them. Amputations also proved effective in improving the lives of the afflicted soldiers. Instead

CBRN Tactics
When talking about CBRN devices and tactics that may be used in a terrorist attack, people
envidiblity think about what is commonly referred to as a dirty bomb , or a RDD (radiological
dispersal device). This type of device offers many advantages to an individual or group wanting
to cause harm or more importantly cause terror. These types of devices are rudimentary in
design and their basic purpose is to spread radioactive debris in a manner that it will be absorbed
by as many people as possible. The means of spreading this material can come in various forms.
The typical design would involve explosives and a radioactive element that would disperse rapidly

Any type of bomb is going to cause damage purely from the energy that is released when the
device detonates. There is great amount of kinetic force that is released in the form of a shock
wave. This alone can cause death, as well as serious injury to people in the area, and the severity
of this injury is determined by the strength of the device and proximity to the actual event at the
time of detonation. Secondary injuries or casualties might be caused from materials that are
projected by the force of the blast. Furniture, building materials, and in some cases, people
themselves can be thrown with such force that upon impact with another person can cause grave
damage. Next there is a thermal element to such a device. Detonation of any explosive creates a
large amount of heat that is a by product of the chemical reaction of the explosive material as it is
set off. People in the immediate area would be severely injured or killed by this element alone.
Once again the radius of damage would be proportional to the relative proximity to the device
upon detonation. Last but not least with this type of device is the radiological property. The
explosive element is almost secondary as it serves as a delivery method for the

The Blackamoors, representing black Africans, with their lowly status was a comforting
juxtaposition to the white wealthy aristocrat s fickle status position (pg.40 41). Additionally, the

Therefore, it is only predictable that white French aristocrat s commissioned Blackamoors in

to adopt a fortified white European colonizer identity that offered imagined power over peoples,
cultures, and the world. Similarly, white French aristocrat s possession of Blackamoors also
represented a desire to control time. By attempting to reduce the aliveness of black Africans to
eternal reminders of the slave trade, white French aristocrats were attempting to preserve a
prosperous time in French society (pg.41). However, the Blackamoors served another purpose in
relation to perseration, the white French aristocrat s economic and psychological dependence on
black Africans were similarly eternalized. The intimacy of violence that would bind white French

Jackson s removal policy did not sit well with a lot of groups; many were uncomfortable about it
but agreed it had to be done. President Jackson showed great leadership apart from everything
else, and handled the Indian Removal act when no one else wanted to address the growing issue of
Indian problem. Most government officials saw little to gain from addressing this and would do
nothing. Some historians believe the president s motivation was clearly out of concern for the
Indians customs, their culture and their language, but his first concern was the safety of the
military, Indians occupying the east might jeopardize the defense of the United States. In
December of 1830 President Jackson would submitted the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek to
congress, it would be the first to win Senate approval. President Jackson wanted everything to go
smoothly so that the American people would see that he was humane and that this Treaty would
benefit both the Indians and the American nation at large. With Jackson located too far away to
oversee the actual removal of the Choctaw Nation, they would endure mismanagement, theft,
corruption, and inefficiency on a level that would lead to their destruction. Jackson would be
deeply offended and the removal of the Choctaw Nation would become one of the worse horror

Appling Sociological Theory Development
Introduction
There have been many career criminals, but most of them have been Caucasian, so I decided to
see if we had any African male or female career criminals, and despite the myth that there are no
black serial killers, there are, but there are very few because, there are not a lot of agencies that
keep the statistics of the number of African American serial killerscompared with Caucasians.
Based on information received from a phone call to Sgt. Thomas from the Augusta, Richmond
County Sheriff department he explained to me that the FBI s National Center for the Analysis of
Violent Crime does not maintain statistics for serial killers, and they do not have any type of
national repository that can keep up let alone track the race or number of serial killers throughout
the U.S.
So, from my source of contact I am incline to believe that the FBIs has never been able to create a
nonspecific profile for a serial killer nor a set physiognomies that someone can examine or look
out for. Moreover, serial killers tend to span all racial groups. There are Asian, white, Hispanic,
and African American serial killers. Basically, the racial diversification of serial killers usually
mirrors that of the overall population.

Although it sounds like an odd question, it is appropriate. Until this assignment I never realized
that society holds a lower standard for our celebrities, even dismissing when our super stars put

For example, how many of you listen to the singer Chris Brown, do you know he got away with
assault charges? For those of you who knew he was guilty of assault, but not punished, did it affect

I know this problem cannot be fixed overnight. The law enforcement officers, the Judges, and the
rest of the justice system should be ashamed in the way that celebrities are getting away with
crimes. I believe that this should be a topic that the public should be made aware of. In the
atmosphere of public outcry, the justice system would remedy the unfairness immediately. I know
that not everyone will be accepting of this and not see the point in putting harsher punishments on
celebrities for crimes. I think that if enough people knew about more than just the handful of
celebrities that have had the charges dropped in their criminal cases and the number of celebrities
that have gotten away with crimes than more people would believe in the un equality of celebrities

Discuss The Six Elements Of Tragedy
Tragedy is an imitation of an action that is serious, complete, and of a certain magnitude; in
language embellished with each kind of artistic ornament, the several kinds being found in separate
parts of the play; in the form of action, not of narrative; with incidents arousing pity and fear,
wherewith to accomplish its catharsis of such emotions .
This definition of tragedy was created by Aristotle, one of the great philosophers of Ancient
Greece and one of the greatest thinkers of our time. Tragedy was not invented by Aristotle. Instead
he used examples from the works of famous Greek playwrights such as Sophocles, Euripedes and
their epigones to illustrate his ideas. He studied hundreds of texts in great detail and wrote

Aristotle claimed that the central aim of tragedy is not to depict human personalities, but to
represent human action. He highlights the importance of action because action initiates events;
which in turn makes it the single most important driver of plot. He argues that even though character
and thought drive action, they aren t as important as the action itself. Plot is the arrangement of
incidents, and only in plot can we find contentment, regardless of motivation or underlying cause.
When talking about plot, Aristotle describes the elements of plot, which include completeness,
magnitude, unity, determinate structure, and universality. Completeness refers to the necessity for
a tragedy to have a beginning, a middle, and an end. Magnitude refers to its length; a tragedy
should be a length which can be easily embraced by the memory. However Aristotle maintains that
the longer a tragedy, the better it can be so long as it portrays a change from bad fortune to good,

built from the ground up. France s military had been struggling and was in shambles. Due to the
work of King Louis XIV and his war minister, Marquis de Louvois, they reorganized the army and
improved the qualification and rewards for joining. All the sudden the Army was an actual career
path that could support an entire family. Soldiers were supplied with uniforms and wages that

Business Challenges Of The Salon
After identifying the business challenges, analyzing them, below are solutions recommended for
the three business functional areas.
Marketing:
It is recommended that The Salon establishes its presence in social media like Facebook. The Salon
can use this media for its marketing. furthermore, it is used to establish the connection between The
Salon and its customers. It is also used to build the customers loyalty. Similarly, The Salon s
Facebook page can also be used as a means to gather customers feedback and measure how satisfied
customers are; and therefore creates needed action items to improve the business.
It is also recommended that The Salon establishes its presence in Yelp, which is the top website for
business review. Through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is recommended that The Salon creates new services that differentiate from the competitors. If
The Salon has better services that customers perceive more valuable and creates more
satisfaction than competitors, The Salon may be able to set higher prices without fearing losing
customers. Specifically, The Salon should create different levels for any service if possible. For
example, for pedicure, it should create three or four levels such as basic, deluxe, elite with the
price and margin increases as the level increases. The increase can be justified because the high
level of service offers more,e.g. the elite pedicure has hot rock massage on feets while the others
do not. In another way to differentiate is to increase the value offered in the service, for example,
offering free toe nail art/design when customers have both manicure and pedicure services.
By the same token. it is recommended that The Salon creates service bundles that are compelling to
customers and perceived as good value. The bundles would create differentiation that helps The
Salon stand above the competitors. Better differentiation would allow attract more customers and
The Salon can set a higher profit margin without fear of competition of the identical service. One
example of bundling services is the top to bottom bundle that includes eyebrow lip waxing,
manicure, and pedicure with a price that less than if individual service is performed separately.

Cultural Difference Between Fiat And Chrysler
dimensions with Italy only ahead by 8%. Each society is similar in regards to men and women in
an organization however; Italy has more respect towards elders and women. Italy surpasses the
United States in the Uncertainty Avoidance dimension. In the United States we do not like change,
but in Italy it is something they thrive on. When it comes to the Long and Short Term Orientation,
both Italy and the United States are low. Italy leads by a slight percentage. Both countries have a
short term when it comes to business planning. These cultural differences are not extreme. This
does not seem like a big enough threat for the FiatChrysleralliance or merger. In many ways Italy
and the United States appear to be similar countries. In many ways they are different too. Fiat and
Chrysler still have to be cautious of even the smallest cultural difference because it can be the
difference between success and failure.
III. Internal Environment The internal environment is important to all businesses as it directly
makes impacts on the business. These factors can include resources, management values,
stakeholder goals, strategy, corporate culture, employees, and capabilities. Fiat and Chrysler
respectively have strengths and weaknesses which can improve, or hurt, what they bring to the
global auto industry.
Fiat Strengths Fiat has a strong brand, production, and marketing. Fiat started their brand in Italy
which has allowed them to grow their global business. The brand is strong and

Composing Gender Analysis In society, people are told to fit certain molds regarding how they are represented in the media such as movies, advertisements, and standards that are set by society. He is also believed to have been born with a different name, and his birthday is unknown because he was born out of wedlock. Despite this, his father made sure he had a good education by sending him to a prestigious Latin school when he was 9 years old. However, when Erasmus s parents died, he was sent to live with guardians who strongly believed that he should become a Monk. During this time, Erasmus gained a personal relationship with God but was opposed to the strict rules and teachings of the school. Poverty eventually forced Erasmus into a monastery in 1492, where he was ordained a Catholic priest. He then became the secretary for Henry de Bergen, the bishop of Chambray, which allowed him to travel across Europe for the next ten years to study Latin and literature. These studies led to his discovery of Renaissance humanism. In the early 1500s, not long after his travels, Erasmus was invited to lecture in theology at the University of Cambridge and it was during this time that Erasmus began to publish literature showing his some of his new ideas and criticisms of society and the church. These ideas started to become well known after he published one of his early works, Praise of Folly. His ideas stood out from others of the time and sparked debate all over Europe. These ideas are strikingly similar to those made famous by Martin Luther, however, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The flat world has changed a traditional top down (vertical) type command and control to a horizontal one (collaborate and connect), in our global economy. This in turn impacts the World and Canada.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The approach described in the book is excellent one, to establish and emphasize in education. It focuses on four strategies. 1) The ability to learn how to learn be inspired and love doing it. 2) Be passionate and curious. Having strong combination of curiosity quotient and passionate quotient would foster motivation, innovation and creativity, and thus self education in turn developing the individual s intelligence quotient. 3) Development of strong interpersonal/interactive skills. This shall allow for strong interactions with other people within the collaborative world. 4) Development of the right hemisphere of the brain, which addresses relationship skills, and creativity, and seeing the big picture . An area that I would also emphasize in education that is not really focused on is financial education. Being able to understand and interpret how the economic and financial aspects of the global marketplace work would be a very strong asset to students. This includes understanding financial reporting, investment strategies, and application of financial well being (i.e. minimization of debt, asset acquisition and allocation, etc.). In terms of de emphasizing teaching activities I would address some minimization of low skill type elective courses which may potentially detrimental for student growth and development. 5. Post War America Civil Rights Analysis Post War America: Civil Rights Immediately after the Second World War, America witnessed a period of increased prosperity and economic success by way of continued expansion of the industry. In the years 1900 1914 there was arguably a significant move towards democracy within Germany. There were general desire for political and social reform and many wished for constitutional change. However, come 1914 Germany still remained nearly as autocratic as it had been back in 1900. Over this period it can clearly be shown through 3 key areas: the Constitution, German policy and events, that, regardless of attempted moves towards democracy, Germany truly was an entrenched autocracy in this period. The German Imperial Constitution of 1871 was widely regarded by contemporaries to be one of the most democratic in the world. People commented at the time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the crisis, the German government deployed the large Panther gunboat to intervene in the conflict rather than resorting to diplomacy from the outset. Flottenpolitik was an integral part of this in that it aimed to create a navy to rival that of Britain which would whip up patriotic feeling. This all followed the idea of Social Imperialism which was an attempt to buttress the position of the elites at the top of Germany s class system by diverting the masses away from social and political reform and towards a populist acceptance of the Kaiser and the Kaiserreich (Geoff Layton). Once again this support for the Kaiser was voluntary but was subtly influenced by the Germans peoples want for international recognition. It was internationally undemocratic but the aggressive foreign policy got people to back the Kaiser as he initiated it. The painting is 69 x 51 3/8 inches, and painted with Oil paints on canvas. While staring at this painting you can see that with each brushstroke that was made you can see that this painting was an obviously inspired from Caravaggio s work. With everything you thought about yesterday (yeah, he heard those thoughts) and the temptations to which you yielded (yeah, he saw that too). Yes, you, struggling Christian. Jesus is not ashamed to call you brother (or sister). As I recently read Hebrews, I was struck in a fresh way with the power of this reality. Jesus is not ashamed to be associated with me. And not simply in a friend sort of way or even a servant sort of way. The Bible says that Jesus calls me friend and servant but it also says more. His pride of association with me is on the familial level. He is not ashamed that I am a part of his family. But not only is he not ashamed of me, he delights in me. The writer of Hebrews goes on later to say that it was for the joy set before him that he endured the cross. What was that joy set before him? It was me. And it was you. Brothers and sisters added to the family of God that they might reign with Him in the new heavens and the new earth. When Jesus looks at us, he is proud. In 1819, the French physicists Pierre Louis Dulong and Alexis ThГ©rГЁse Petit observed that the heat capacity per atom for metals were extremely similar within the temperature range of 300 500K. They determined heat capacities by surrounding the bulb of a mercury thermometer with a hot powdered sample and subsequently monitoring the cooling rate [2]. Since their experimental results for the heat capacities of different metals were close to that of an average, 3R, where R is the universal gas constant, it was concluded and accepted that the value of the heat capacity of an element is constant. One of the demeaning aspect of the picture is the lack of genuineness and enforcement of stylish lifestyle on the audience which makes it loose the emotional quotient. For me, the picture represents three key elements Kanye West, who achieved success because of his songs, then Kim Kardashian, who rose to fame through the infamous sex tape and built her media empire over it and finally the baby, North West, who is unaware of her surroundings where she will be in constant gaze and would have to struggle, like her parents, to depict herself according to their social stature. According to Braudy, this urge to be unique and constant competition is what drives the Page 3 personalities to share and market their every life event which makes them superior to others. The non dipping pattern is an established predictor of bad heart outcomes and researchers want to know more about what it depends on. There are 140 African American and white men and women with elevated clinical blood pressure. There are readings taken during the day and the night for each participant of various hemodynamic values. This is a prospective cohort study. There is no control group present in this study. Using the criterion of less than 10% dip in SBP, there were 51 non dippers and 89 dippers. There was almost no change in cardiac output for all participants between night time and day time. However, vascular resistance decreased from daytime to night time, but non dippers compared with dippers exhibited a significant decrease in vascular resistance from daytime to night time. Relative to the white participants, African Americans also exhibited dipping as well as a decrease in vascular resistance. ANOVA analysis was used to calculate statistical significance. In the context of high BP, these findings suggest that non dipping may be a manifestation, or marker, of more advanced vascular disease. When you scroll through a college course catalog, there are always literature classes like 19th Century British Literature by Women, African American Literature, Queer Literature , etc. Granted, there is value to teaching courses focuses around those segments of literature; however, courses called Books by Straight White Men or American Male Literature almost never seem to pop up. That s not to say those books aren t taught in the college classroom; they just don t need to be labeled a certain way or qualified as a different category they are the standard, the baseline. In the same way, we normally don t look at literature through a masculine lens unless we are comparing it with feminist literature. Why do we see men as the prototype of an author? Why do we utilize the term femaleauthor if we are talking about a woman, but just author if it s a man? In Judith Lorber s essay, Susan M. Gilbert and Susan Gubar s essay The Madwoman in the Attic, they claim The poet s pen is in some sense (even more than figuratively) a penis (Gilbert 4). Many prominent female authors have spoken to the fact that males are seen at the supremes in the world of femininity, including Virginia Woolf, Alice Walker, and Adrienne Rich. The success is mainly attributed to Japan s culture and even embedded in the language itself (Goold, 2004). The success has drawn interest among criminology scholars and practitioners either for the purpose of broadening their knowledge or to emulate its criminal justicesystem (Ebbe, 2000). The interest is based on statistical data that indicate low levels of criminality in the developed nation of Japan in comparison to others. However, I will also evaluate at what cost that this haven of peace comes about. Clear examples will accompany any argument and statements as support of a claim. The history of Japan s criminal justice system is important if one wishes to understand completely how the system operates and borrow from it. Before the Second World War, Japan was mostly isolated from the rest of the world except for some trading activities with Portugal. Due to this Western or rather European, the influence in the country was minimal. Japan was, therefore, able to retain some of its strong traditional legal systems despite incorporating some aspects from the French, Chinese, and Americans. However; after WWII, Japan was forced to adopt the American legal approaches to the constitution and human rights due to the post war agreement that was signed (Reichel, 2002). The Japanese however did not abandon their systems all together as they continued to use the informal ways of conflict resolution through mediation, consensus, and compromise. The formal systems were then used in combination with these. Aside from the informal procedures used by police and citizens to resolve disputes, the Japanese system have a highly centralised and organised criminal justice system (Dammer, Albanese, 2013). New breakthroughs during this time period had a great effect on the results of the battles and the war as a whole. Advancements in medical procedures, sanitation, infection control, field hospitals and triage, nursing techniques, and the development of the American Red Cross all greatly impacted the mortality rates of soldiers in both the Union and the Confederate armies during the American Civil Warin both positive and negative ways. Amputations were the most effective and renowned surgical technique during this time period. Amputations were wildly taboo procedures that caused much controversy at the time. By some they were considered butchery and many questioned the military surgeons qualifications to perform such aberrant procedures. One doctor wrote, The surgery of these battle fields has been pronounced butchery. Gross misrepresentations of the medical officers have been made and scattered broadcast over the country, causing deep and heart rending anxiety to those who had friends or relatives in the army, who might at any moment require the services of a surgeon.... There is great amount of kinetic force that is released in the form of a shock wave. Secondary injuries or casualties might be caused from materials that are projected by the force of the blast. Furniture, building materials, and in some cases, people themselves can be thrown with such force that upon impact with another person can cause grave damage. Next there is a thermal element to such a device. Detonation of any explosive creates a large amount of heat that is a by product of the chemical reaction of the explosive material as it is set off. People in the immediate area would be severely injured or killed by this element alone. Once again the radius of damage would be proportional to the relative proximity to the device upon detonation. Most government officials saw little to gain from addressing this and would do nothing. Unit 9 DB 1 Appling Sociological Theory Development Introduction There have been many career criminals, but most of them have been Caucasian, so I decided to see if we had any African male or female career criminals, and despite the myth that there are no black serial killers, there are, but there are very few because, there are not a lot of agencies that keep the statistics of the number of African American serial killerscompared with Caucasians. Based on information received from a phone call to Sgt. Thomas from the Augusta, Richmond County Sheriff department he explained to me that the FBI s National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime does not maintain statistics for serial killers, and they do not have any type of national repository that can keep up let alone track the race or number of serial killers throughout the U.S. So, from my source of contact I am incline to believe that the FBIs has never been able to create a nonspecific profile for a serial killer nor a set physiognomies that someone can examine or look out for.
