How Did Hitler Want To Take All Power
Do you know a powerful dictator that wanted to take all power? Well Hitler was just that, Adolf Hitler
was a German chancellor that wanted to take all power and conquer as many countries for power.
Hitler was also a dictator, he tried to most countries. Adolf Hitler never cared and wanted all power, he
killed jews for the fault of the loss of World War 1. Although Hitler had some skills that made him a
significant leader. Germany had been weak since the loss of World War 1 with the Weimar Republic,
This had some consequences for Germany. Although after Adolf Hitler became chancellor he made
Germany big again by rearming his army and taking power. Before Hitler was chancellor the Weimar
Republic was an unofficial, historical designation for the German state. Weimar Republic flag for
Germany was a striped flag going from one end to the other with the colors of black on top, red on the
middle, and yellow at the bottom.Weimar Republic existed as the designation for Germany for 14
years, between 1919 and 1933. Although World War 1 had occured during 1914 and 1918, but
Germany was in this World War. Germany was in this war that mostly took place in Britain and
France, most damages from the war were caused here. Although Germany had lost this war, and
Germany had to pay some consequences. Germany had to pay all the reparations done in the war and
Germany couldn t of had a big army according to the Treaty of Versailles. Their army was only as big
as 6 battleships, 6 light cruisers,

Movie Critique On The Industrial Organizational Psychology...
Movie Critique on the Industrial Organizational Psychology present in Antz
Introduction
The 1998 film Antz is an excellent depiction of the industrial and organizational work force. Being
that the film is a Dream Works animation, it has a simple and attention grabbing plot that is given to
the viewer through the perspective of a hero, and in this context an colony ant worker named Z
(Darnell et al., 1998). This peculiar, open minded ant portrayed several topics related to industrial
organizational psychology such as leadership, occupational stress, and job satisfaction. In addition to
the prevalent presence of industrial psychology that can be seen in the main character, other characters
and details of the plot are representative of industrial psychology as well. Elements such as
organizational commitment and employee selection are intriguingly exemplified through this
moralistic story of ants (Darnell et al., 1998).
In the film Antz, the once miserable and dissatisfied protagonist finds bliss and hope in the colony
princess, Princess Bala at a worker s bar. Z leaves the work colony for a day to pursue his newfound
love interest by pretending to be a soldier for a day. Unfortunately and unexpectedly, Z is sent into
battle during his quest to re connect with Princess Bala (Darnell et al., 1998). However, he turns out to
be the only soldier to survive the battle. This results in him seeing the princess again, insulting the

Business Communication Essay example
Business communication needs to become interpersonal again. No matter how we believe our human
forms came into existence, we were built to need personal contact and function best with face to face
communication. As children, we desired comfort from touch, a hug from our mothers. As teenagers,
we held hands with our boyfriend or girlfriend. As adults in the workforce, we still need to feel that
connection and comfort with our families and the people we work with. As Susan RoAne (2008),
owner of a speaking, consulting, and coaching business, discusses one way we feel this connection is
through getting to know and building trust by communicating in person. Through this interpersonal
interaction, we not only feel more comfortable around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the greatest success of the business, employees need interpersonal communication to connect with
their co workers. A leadership expert, John C. Maxwell (2010) says: Connecting goes beyond words.
(p. 41). Physically being in the same room, verbally speaking thoughts, engaging in eye contact, and
being able to see nonverbal responses are all important and add to a person s understanding of the
message being communicated and feeling a connection. Overall, communicating face to face is more
natural for employees. An employee knows who is hearing what they are saying and seeing their
nonverbal gestures. The employee can either get immediate feedback whether or not the person
understands or agrees or disagrees. The communication does not have to be formatted as it does on
paper. An employee should still present themselves professionally, but communicating face to face is a
process, instead of format.
Through in person communication, employees will be able to not only build needed connections, but
relationships and trust with co workers in the business. Maslow s hierarchy of needs is like a staircase,
a person needs to satisfy the lower stairs to easily reach and fulfill the higher staircases. If you refer to

Difference Between Prospect Theory And Prospect Theory
INTRODUCTION
Generally, it is believed the net effect of the gains and losses involved with each choice are combined
to present an overall evaluation of whether a choice is desirable. Scholars tend to use utility to state
enjoyment and contend that we prefer instances that maximize our utility.
However, studies have found that we don t actually process information in such a rational way.
Kahneman and Tversky presented an idea called prospect theory in 1979, which contends that people
value gains and losses differently, and, as such, will base decisions on perceived profits rather than
perceived losses. Thus, if a person were given two equal choices, one expressed in terms of possible
gains and the other in possible losses, people would choose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

First, in prospect theory, people derive utility from gains and losses, measured relative to some
reference point, rather than from absolute levels of wealth: the argument of Kahneman and Tversky
motivate this assumption, known as reference dependence, with explicit experimental evidence (see,
for example, Problems 11 and 12 in their 1979 paper), but also by noting that our perceptual system
works in a similar way: we are more attuned to changes in attributes such as brightness, loudness, and
temperature than we are to their absolute

Arguments In Favor Of Animal Testing
Hannah Bjorklund

Animal Testing Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of
compassion to embrace all living creatures... (Einstein). Every year, an immense number of animals
are unwillingly subjected to testing in laboratories across the United States. If action is not taken,
millions of lab animals will continue to die and suffer not only in America, but universally. Animal
testing stems all the way back to the ancient Greeks, Romans, and Arabs, and has since then expanded
into a global issue (Scutti). Currently, more than 26 million animals are used for product development
and drug testing, as well as medical research ( Should ). Many, if not most, of these lab tests ... Show

Also, the practice has produced many treatments necessary in saving human lives. For example, the
discovery of the polio vaccine reduced global instances of the disease from 350 thousand cases in
1988 to 223 in 2012 ( Should ). Considering over 371 million people worldwide have diabetes
(Castillo), the invention of insulin has saved countless lives since its discovery. Animal testing has
also offered a better understanding of conditions such as tuberculosis, cystic fibrosis, multiple
sclerosis, many types of cancer like leukemia and breast cancer, and countless other diseases ( Should
). Not only does animal research yield lifesaving medical treatments and advancements, the animals
involved are protected by various laws and regulations. The most prominent of these laws is the
Animal Welfare Act, or AWA, which has been in effect since 1966. Not only does the AWA regulate
the types of animals tested on, it also requires minimum housing standards for the research animals.
For instance, all lab animals must be provided with a suitable enclosure size, fresh food and water, and
a comfortable habitat temperature ( Should ). Furthermore, all persons requesting to use animals for
experimentation must have their request approved by their facility s Institutional Animal Care and Use
Committee, or IACUC. All facilities are also required to employ veterinarians, animal care specialists,
and animal health technicians to best insure considerate treatment of the lab animals ( Should ). While
living in poor conditions is mainly bad for the animals, it also affects the results of the experiments
themselves. Neglected animals produce inaccurate test results, due to many of their characteristics
only being observable if they are contented, meaning humane treatment of lab animals is better for the
researchers as

A Peaceful Day Of A Crummy Condo
It was a peaceful day in a crummy condo. Kade and I were sitting in his room. An hour of AP Social
Studies homework and 7th grade English homework in when a gust of wind came through the closed
window. How do I put this, there was a noise. A very dim, subtle noise. A ZING,ssive, easygoing way,
and the women said to us in a soft, calm voice, We are your parents, we want to take you home . My
brother and I were abandoned when he was 6 months old. One morning my father was making me
chocolate chip pancakes and the next, I was alone. Imagine a five year old calling 911 saying your
parents were abducted by aliens. That s what I wanted to believe. After I turned 10, I realized that
every prayer wasn t worth it. My parents were never coming back. My brother and I were taken to
Child Services the next day and we sent to Billy and Jen s house, me scared little 5 year old about to
take on a world of responsibilities. We got home and Billy gave me a puppy and told me that she was
there for me when they weren t and to take care of my brother. They left me there for a week, so I
called Miss Tammy, the child services lady and she took me to a new home. We stayed there until I
turned 13. It was a group home and they gave us food, shelter, and, educational opportunities. But no
true compassion or a parent like figure. When I realized that we were never going to get the love we
deserve, I took Kade in the middle of the night and found an abandoned condo. It had all the amenities

Different Political Sysytems
In the vast majority of political systems, which have gone through the processes of federalisation or
decentralization, the courts have assumed a prominent role in resolving intergovernmental disputes.
However, academics, such as Alan Trench and Robert Hazel, agree, that courts role in the working of
devolution in the United Kingdom was limited. They name political congruence in the UK as a main
factor minimizing the role of the judiciary in the devolution process. There also is a number of
secondary factors adding to it. Such as the limited role accorded to lawyers and legal issues in the UK
s governmental system, the high degree of flexibility of the devolution settlements and a political
nature of the UK s constitution, which favours resolution of intergovernmental disputes by means
other than courts. Despite the chance that once devolution legislation comes into force, the case law
builds up and devolved legislatures become more active, courts role is more likely to become more
significant as a result of third party litigation, Alan Trench predicts that the role of courts in most
intergovernmental matters is unlikely to change due to hindering factors mentioned above. We will
elaborate on them further.

resolve numerous arising intergovernmental disputes on new constitutional agreements, as it happened

Glamour Analysis
Glamorous is a phrase often used today to detail various public figures. Yet, we still know peculiarly
little about the element of the word glamour or the artistic taste behind its significance. Glamour is
existence that is difficult to define, but is instantly substantial. Our society inundate photographs that
revolve around hollywood movie stars. In my own words, glamour is an unreal quality that uplifts an
individual into the dimension of something else, their natural beauty and desire is above anything we
see in everyday life. The it factor causes us to be captivated with movie stars as making it an essential
of glamour. Glamour portraits a certain style to be recognizable, it portrays and image of a star, not the

recognition in the 1930s from Hollywood film industry. During the 1930s publicity agents from
hollywood concentrated on advertising the actress on film, advertising these stars was a main source
to photograph them. The photo had to get audiences attention right away, without fail, every time. This
photograph is categorized as a glamour portrait. Photographers back in these times took glamour
portraits that are characterized by close up frame, a sharp focus, and high contrast lighting. An
essential element in the modern construction of glamour is recognized role of photography. George
Hurrell work literature has traced these origins. However, Hurrell was recruited by MGM in the 1930

Rate Of Osmosis
As suggested by the graph above and the data obtained through the conduction of the experiment, an
evident correlation between the surface area to volume ration and the rate of osmosis can be implied.
As can be seen from the graph, as the surface area and volume ratio of the cube is increased, the %
change in mass is decreased (as suggested by the % change in mass of 2 x 2 x 2 cube). In a
contradicting manner, as the SA: V of the potato cube in decreased, the % change in mass of the
potato cube in increased (as suggested by the % change in mass of 1 x 1 x 1 cube). This pattern in the
data reinforces the hypothesising statement, which stated that if the size of potato is larger, then the
rate of osmosis would be gradual due to its smaller volume to surface area ratio, whereas if the size of
the potato is smaller, then the rate of osmosis would be faster.
One explanation for the correlation between these variables is that an object with a large SA:V ratio
comprises of a smaller surface for the chemical/substance (salt solution) to move across, allowing

The results of these two groups clearly differ from the other 4 groups. To exemplify, the results for the
% change in mass of the groups 1, 2, 3 and 5 range from 6 11% but the results of group 4 and 6 are
34.09 % and 0.99 % respectively. One probable explanation for this discrepancy in the results is that
the groups 4 and 6 may have conducted the experiment incorrectly. Potential factors that may have
caused these inconsistencies in results, include a damaged weighing scale and a damaged timer, which
could ve misled the experimenters of groups 4 and 6 by displaying the incorrect time. This would
mean that the potatoes were kept in the salt solution for more or less than 20 minutes, which would
explain the vast difference in the

Name:
(Class Information):
Date:
The ideals by the Republicans which came into the limelight after the Revolutionary War would set
into motion a revolution not just in the United States but in many countries across the world. Linda
Kerber s Women of the Republic is a demonstration of the paradigm shift in relation to the US social
and political structures after the American Revolution. Kerber observes that not only did the war
provide more opportunities to women but also set a platform for women to chart the way forward
politically. This important role is what came later to be known as the Republican Motherhood. The
concept of Republican Motherhood demonstrates the important role that woken played politically in
addition to attending to their traditional roles of domestic responsibility.
Women of the Republic demonstrates the expanded role of women politically amidst the rising
influence of their male counterparts in civic responsibility. Kerber states that the American Revolution
provided a platform for women to express themselves away from ideological ferment that was
premised on the confines of a family set up. This situation might perhaps explain why there were few
women leaders during the period leading to the Revolution War. Kerber appears to place her concept
of the Republican Motherhood to the industrialisation era that was characterized by fathers working

Teenage Stereotypes
Lazy, Disrespectful, Selfish, Technology Crazed. These are just a few of the words that come to mind
when the typical adult describes the everyday teenager. To some, these descriptions are taken as a
given fact and lack recognition of the issue this poses to the individuals on the receiving end of such.
This is the exact issue present in discrimination and stereotyping. For years, a specific group of
individuals has been reduced to the negative connotations presented against them by every other group
that lacks such quality such as their race, gender, appearance, age ...etc. Every instance applicable
contains the common ground in which the other groups fail to recognize the harm in their superficial
classifications of one another due to narrow minded tendencies. This is the basis to every single form
of discrimination. An incredibly oppressed group who is by far, no stranger to these circumstances are
teens who continuously receive the hostility of adults for simply belonging to their age group. Present
day teenagers have come to be placed in an inaccurate box that classifies them as a selfish, immature
group by adults due several factors, the most prominent being the media and the form it introduces
teens to the average adult. The constant incorrect portrayal of teens in movies, t.v. and other platforms
has caused adult audiences to believe these classifications and thus, cause several issues to be inflicted
upon teens in several areas of their lives that calls for

The main objective of this paper is to examine the effects of HIV/AIDS scourge on labour force
productivity of Adamawa state households. 2. Problem Statement The health status of the people in
any country is a critical element in the growth of its economy as well as an important factor in the
overall quality of life. AIDS tend to selectively affect women, youths, which are the vulnerable
groups; it will influence a wide range of social and economic factors. In Adamawa State, agriculture is
the dominant industry; high rate of infection could lead to the stagnation of the industry. Recent
studies have revealed that HIV/AIDS prevalence among women and youths is increasingly worrisome.

Analysis Of The Central Themes From Shakespeare s Henry Iv
What is honor? That question is one of the central themes from Shakespeare s Henry IV. Throughout
the play Shakespeare provides many different views of honor, but never directly states what honor is.
Which makes sense because honor is a rather abstract concept that seems to vary depending on who
states their opinion. There are some universal ideas of honorable deeds but the word itself is rarely
defined by individuals. Two of the characters within the play have very different ideas of honor and
vary greatly in their desire for it. They are Hotspur and Falstaff, Hotspur appears to have a very clear
idea of what honor is and he pursues honor with great fervor. However, Falstaff questions the very
existence of honor and has little to no desire for it. The ideas of Falstaff and Hotspur about honor are
vastly different.
Falstaff and Hotspur differ significantly in their idea of honor. Hotspur believes honor is all about
glory and being the center of attention. While Falstaff is only certain that the dead have honor but is
unsure about what it is as described by this excerpt of his soliloquy, No. What is honour? . Hotspur
believes that honor is derived from epic or heroic deeds, these deeds tends to be very physical in
nature such as the honor gained from battle. Bravery and the acts associated with it is an additional
font from which honor can flow freely. This is described by the line, O the blood more stirs To rouse a

Management 303 SWOT Analysis of USAA

Fortune 500 company, United Services Automobile Association (USAA) began as a small group of 25
U.S. Army officers in 1922. Nearly 90 years later, it is now an organization with more than 7.4 million
members, offering banking, investing, retirement and insurance services worldwide. Since its
inception, USAA has expanded membership eligibility to include all members of the Armed Forces
and their family. What makes USAA stand out is that it is not a corporation, but an inter insurance
exchange. This allows each member to be insured by every other member concurrently, yet only liable

Weakness #2 No Particular Agent The second organizational weakness is the lack of personalized
service. It s impossible to give personal attention to as many members as USAA has like it is for a
smaller community bank and insurance provider. Since the organization is so large, it is easy to feel
lost in the mix and just another number. Smaller community banks and insurance providers have the
benefit of getting to know their clients personally, may be better able to serve their specific concerns
and clients tend to be more comfortable doing business with someone from their own community with
whom they deal with consistently. Also, it can be frustrating that you are unable to speak to the same
representative twice when calling a large business such as USAA. USAA can minimize this weakness
by creating teams of representatives for their members. Each member can be assigned to a team of 5 7
USAA representatives, one of which will be answering that members concern. Teams would be
comprised of representatives from each specialty (IRA planning, mortgage help, banking etc.) and be
available only to their customers. This strategy would provide comfort to the members who like to
deal with the same individuals when doing business.
Section III Opportunities and Threats
Two opportunities presented to USAA are to expand the number of physical locations both
domestically and nationally and to provide additional services to programs already being used. Two

Debate on Columbus Day Essay
To change Columbus Day to no longer be a holiday would be turning a blind eye to a difficult history,
yet still turning that eye away from a history with a side to be celebrated. I instead ask of you to
celebrate Columbus Day, learn the full history, including the wrong doings of Columbus and his crew,
and celebrate the good change brought about by this event that ultimately led to the lifestyle you lead
today. If the wrongs of every event in history were to be scrutinized would we have a history left to
celebrate? Think of the reasons why we celebrate a moment in history, and then think why we have
not excluded that from our celebrations. I believe it is to celebrate the good times and the bad and to

Even when we look at something in a holiday that isn t negative, like the Christmas tree, which there
aren t conifers in Jerusalem, it shows how much our holidays can be skewed from a tradition which
was originally practiced. Even the other holidays honoring great men can have a darker side. MLK
day for example; Martin Luther King, or Michael Luther King, was under scrutiny because his
doctorate had blatant plagiarism, also his I Have a Dream speech was plagiarized from a pastor from
his church he attended. This shows that history and the light we view people in can be skewed to
retain the honor or the pomp and circumstance that comes with remembering the good brought about
by their achievements.
Beyond the fact that Columbus was not the first person to discover the Americas, he was the man that
brought about European civilization to America and their fascination with conquering a new world.
His wrong doings, which include, letting his crew rape, pillage and plunder the Bahamas, should not
outweigh the good that coming to America brought for us as Americans who, without European
influence may not have progressed quite as far or in the circumstances we did. As with the Colombian
exchange that was brought about by Columbus venture to the Americas it is a box of good and evil.
With the disease and captured indigenous people, the Columbian Exchange brought a trade of new

How Is The Perils Of Obedience Shown In A Few Good Men
The film, A Few Good Men, showcases military lawyer, Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee, defending two
United States Marines, Lance Corporal Harold Dawson and Private Louden Downey, who were
accused of murdering a fellow Marine Corps member, Private William Santiago. The obedience of the
Marines was assessed when Colonel Jessup ordered Lance Corporal Dawson and Private Downey to
perform a code red, a brutal punishment made illegal by the government, on Private Santiago in order
to coerce him into becoming an improved Marine. Similarly, in the article The Perils of Obedience,
Stanley Milgram conducted a psychological experiment that observed the extent at which an
individual will obey orders. The experiment created a scenario where an unknowing member ... Show

When Jessup initially stated that no one was to touch Santiago, Markinson was to relay the message to
the fellow Marines. One of the most valued questions declared by Kaffee to Jessup was, If Lieutenant
Kendrick gave an order that Santiago wasn t to be touched, then why did he have to be transferred?
Colonel? Kendrick ordered the Code Red, didn t he? Because that s what you told Lieutenant
Kendrick to do! (A Few Good Men). Kaffe then exposed that after Santiago died, Jessup had
Markinson sign an invalid transfer order and Jessup then altered the flight log book (A Few Good
Men). After continued discussion about who to blame for Santiago s death, Jessup confessed to
ordering the code red (A Few Good Men). Correspondingly, Stanley Milgram found that within the
experiments, the blame of the shocks being given was disoriented. Milgram s findings show that
individuals blame each other for something that goes awry, which in the film, the Marines, Dawson,
and Downey took the blame from their authority figures. Comparatively, Fromm stated, As long as I
am obedient to the power ... , I feel safe and protected. In fact, it makes little difference what power it
is that I am obedient to (Fromm 127). Thus being the reason why Dawson and Downey obeyed Jessup
s code red order and why teachers in the Milgram experiment continued on, even when the

The Kingdoms Of Day And Night
The Kingdoms of Day and Night
It would seem the people did not understand the urgency of the situation, the years of history and
development of the kingdom was under siege and they were only moments away from obliteration.
Still they continued to walk along the gravel roads, seemingly unaware of the looming phantom of
absolute destruction that shrouded itself within the unsuspecting crossroads that divided the city. It
was not your typical tale of two cities, in fact to call these two cities was an insult to the efforts that
were taken to distinguish these two powerful kingdoms, distinguishable factors that could only be
ascertained from within as any third party who were to travel between the two mighty nations would
believe them to be one in the same. Only through distinctive circumstance could the kingdoms be
perceived as separate, even their oblivious gravel roads and the people who strolled along them were
strikingly similar The aforementioned circumstances were manifested solely from a traveler s
interaction with the two kingdoms, the sense of hospitality and the lack thereof was what segmented
them as if they were kingdoms of night and day. Hospitality was the key to the Kingdom of the Sun
while intimidation and exploitation was the driving force behind the Kingdom of the Silver Sky.

The Working Class In Edith Wharton s The House Of Mirth
challenging or overcoming the marketplace is not even possible: she approaches the topic from an
aristocratic perspective, which offers no alternative to the standard of a business centered society.
Para. 28: Wharton nevertheless tries to overcome this impossibility by exploring it through the
working class. The character of Nettie, for instance, is representative of being outside the exchange
system, and therefore able to transcend the exchange system.
Para. 29: Placing her hope for change within her idealized vision of the working class, Wharton seeks
to find an exit from the confines of the marketplace mentality. Dimock s final argument, then, is that
the House of Mirth is Wharton s critique of a system that places arbitrary values on human
experiences for the sake of short term capital gain.
In Debasing Exchange: Edith Wharton s The House of Mirth, Wai Chee Dimock seeks to prove how
The House of Mirth acts as an illuminating critique of the society in which it is set, namely how and
why social interactions are defined by an all pervasive system of exchange that ultimately defines all
other aspects of the characters lives. She establishes intellectual territory in her analysis by reading
closely into the myriad of relationships between the characters in the novel, attending to how their
dialogue and actions are steeped in the language of business. Dimock s reasoning for The House of

Devil Wears Prada Analysis
The Devil Wears Prada
The fashion centric, The Devil Wears Prada showcases a journalism major from Northwestern

purpose of getting hitched to this film at the very beginning was its title. I guess it s prominent that the
word fashion reaches a woman s ear faster than the speed of lightning striking the sky and Prada being
the most popular brand drew me closer to it.
The Devil Wears Prada was released in 2006 by Fox 2000 Pictures, directed by the talent house David

The famous scene shot here was when Miranda doesn t want to let go of her job and refuses to let
Nigel (Runway Magazine stylist) work with James Holt (rising fashion star) as a creative director and
instead offers that post to someone else. This part of the movie took my breath away emotionally. I
was as shaken as Andrea was in the film.
One of the best elements of the film is its pack of wolves; that s the cast. Each character, whether
playing a small or a big role comes off as relatable. For example, When Andrea loses herself and is
absorbed in swirling costumes, her boyfriend Nate (Adrian Greiner) and her college friends come to
her rescue. Nate explains to her how she has become one of the Runway girls she used to make fun of
in the beginning. Too lost, she comes with a conclusion of taking a break from their relationship. Her
friend Lily (Tracie Thoms) also refuses to support her and states her actions as demeaning. This
dramatic point definitely is reality. We see these downfalls happen to us, friends and everyone we are
close to. It connects with the audience easily.
The Devil Wears Prada comes with an edging climax where Andrea has to choose whether she wants
to remain this quintessential damsel or go back to who she really is. In the movie, we see Miranda tell

This paper will go over what is involved with fingerprint scanning and information databases they go
in into to include how fingerprint scanning works and the comparison of the scan with other

identify the pros and cons of using finger scanning for security. This paper will talk about the
Enforcement Integrated Database and will conclude with the Interface between databases.
The use of computers and fingerprint scanners has been a source of spy thrillers for decades. Recently,
fingerprinting has become pretty fascinating technology in the real world. In the past few years,
however, finger print scanners have started popping up all over the place, such as in federal, state and
local police departments; high security buildings, the background and clearance process and even on
PC keyboards and mobile devices. And while two fingerprints may look similar at a glance, a
professional investigator or cutting edge software can pick out clear, defined differences in a
fingerprint pattern.
The actual fingerprint device is used in place of a human analyst that would be collecting a print
sample and then comparing it to other samples on record. Fingerprint scanning technology uses
electronic devices to replicate a digital image of the fingerprint pattern called a live scan. The
fingerprint scanning system has two basic functions; first it needs to take a digital scan of the

The Subculture Of The Deaf Community
While with hearing people, she was expected to adapt to their behaviors and to their ways of talking.
She realized that their view of her as handicapped could not be overcome; it was too deeply rooted in
their culture (Padden 154). In quote Tom Humphries is talking about Carol Padden in a very
influential time of her life. Being a part of a subculture like the deaf community must be enriching but
also have interesting effects on how people within the subculture see normal individuals. Deaf people
can be seen throughout history, the best historical information found was in The Deaf Community in
America: History in the Making, written by Melvia M. Nomeland and Ronald E. Nomeland. They
provide many details about the history of deaf individuals like, The first mention of a deaf person,
Chushim, is noted in the Torah (Nomeland 6). The Torah is the religious text of the Jewish people, and
was written around 1312 B.C. Education for deaf people took over 3,000 years for there to be public
education for the Deaf. The London Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb, another school, was opened at
Kent Road in 1792 to accept deaf children from poor families (Nomeland 17).
The deaf subculture has always seemed so interesting, American Sign Language (ASL) is so
intriguing, a personal friend is deaf and it is amazing, the fact that hearing and speaking could change
a person s culture so drastically. This essay will explain in broad terms what the deaf culture is like

Structural Testing And Component Integration Testing Essay
 The structural testing is the testing of the structure of the system or component.  Structural testing
is often referred to as white box or glass box or clear box testing because in structural testing we are
interested in what is happening inside the system/application .  In structural testing the testers are
required to have the knowledge of the internal implementations of the code. Here the testers require
knowledge of how the software is implemented, how it works.  During structural testing the tester is
concentrating on how the software does it. For example, a structural technique wants to know how
loops in the software are working. Different test cases may be derived to exercise the loop once, twice,
and many times. This may be done regardless of the functionality of the software.  Structural testing
can be used at all levels of testing. Developers use structural testing in component testing and
component integration testing, especially where there is good tool support for code coverage.
Structural testing is also used in system and acceptance testing, but the structures are different. For
example, the coverage of menu options or major business transactions could be the structural element
in system or acceptance testing. 5.4 Accuracy Assessment (Describe all the methods for assessing the
accuracy of your System) For access the accuracy of the application we check it different different

14 As Stamper argues, this is a significant aspect of portraying authority when one an emperor uses
precedent of Rome s founding 15 and this is shown by Augustus in commemorating the temple to

Fujifilm made the conscious decision to embrace the change towards digitization. In 2004, the
company management team planned to take measures to ensure the viability of the company during
the shift towards digital. With this decision, Fujifilm remained a force to be reckoned with in the
photography industry. With the economic down spiral was occurring in 2008 Fujifilm was reporting
record breaking profits and earnings. Understanding the Global crisis of an impending recession
Fujifilm once again took action to maintain their viability. This time the company implemented a
series of decisive Group and division wide structural reforms over a two year period commencing the

While Fujifilm was embracing the new technology and moving towards the digital world Kodak

the first hand held camera saw its company collapse. The company filed for bankruptcy protection in
2010 to protect some of their assets. Although, Kodak was beginning to lose profits in 2007 their
management team did nothing to increase the company revenues and prevent the inevitable. In court

Irony In The Most Dangerous Game
Irony and imagery are both important writing tools, used to guide the reader through the story while
keeping them engaged and thinking about the story complexly. When used together successfully, the
reader can walk away with something to think about, a new perspective on something they might have
thought different about before. When considering this, I would argue that The Most Dangerous Game,
is overall a better story than The Necklace .
In both stories, irony is used to to teach a lesson. In Richard Cowell s The Most Dangerous Game, he
tells a story of a hunter who is put into the place of the hunted. At the beginning of the story the
protagonist, Reinsford, boasts about the extravagant nature of hunting for sport. The best sport in the
world, (Cowell, 1924, p. 54) is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the end Reinsford feels sympathy for the hunted, being able to relate to the animals directly. The
irony used in this story is easily relatable to the reader, everyone at one point in time has had some
sort of drastic change in opinion. Whether it is about something as relative as the quality of a story, or
something considerably more important, like what makes something s life important, we have all had
that feeling. On the other hand, we have The Necklace, by Guy De Maupassant. Maupassant s use of
irony is less relatable and more comedic. He does this very well, oh my poor Mathilde, but mine was
only paste! (Maupassant, 1884, p. 208) A punch line of sorts, a funny ending to a unfunny story. It is
unexpected, and gets the reader to remember what has happened earlier in the story, but when looking
for an overarching theme, the humor could

Essay On Reading Is An Extension Of You
Reading: An Extension of You According to the Children s Literacy Foundation, one out of six
children who do not read at their respective age level by the end of third grade will not graduate from
high school. This reality is not only disturbing but also highlights the undisputable relationship
between reading and further learning. Without the proper foundation that reading lays, children will
simply fall through the shaky structure below them towards a life of poverty and, surprisingly often,
crime. Furthermore, in my not so humble opinion reading, along with general literacy, is the bridge
between the schoolyard and the real world. Unfortunately, kids, tweens, teens, and adults often burn

The 300 and 900 sections of the library were my reading havens. On a date that I cannot recall, it was
thirteen years ago, I went to Berkley and Jensen s (BJ s) with my mother and I went to the book table
while she shopped for groceries, as was my custom. On that slab filled with fantasy, romance, and
Lego visual dictionaries I discovered one of my favorite books to date, Great Battles: Decisive
Conflicts That Have Shaped History. The book depicts battles ranging from Marathon to the Tet
Offensive and enthralls the reader with varying perspectives and full detail maps. I loved looking at
those maps and imagining that the battle was playing out in front of my very eyes. I learned two things
about myself and life because of this book: a one sided conflict or debate does not exist and you do
not have to be the strongest, tallest, or most likeable to win. All you need to win is conviction,
intelligence, and ambition. From then on, I interpreted reading as an opportunity to view two sides of
an argument and an opportunity to make my own decisions about who or what I should or should not
support. As Winston Churchill once said, You have enemies? Good. That means you ve stood up for
something, sometime in your life. Approximately six years later, I graduated from the ninth grade to
the tenth grade, congratulations to me. I have to confess, when I saw that I had to read Shakespeare

Pride And Prejudice Social Class
Should being in a different social class have an effect on how you feel about someone? Even if the
person has a pure heart, but low in social status? Jane Austen outlines in Pride and Prejudice the
substances of social class, pride, and women s rights. Austen satirizes the social standing of the upper
classes and how they treated people of the lower class. How the people in the eighteenth century and
also Pride and Prejudice were split into categories by what they have or what they know are very
similar.
In Pride and Prejudice, Austen describes to the reader how women were treated differently from men;
whether it was in education, the workforce, or politically. Women typically did not have an education
in the eighteenth century, as for Elizabeth and her sisters, they were among the girls who was not able
to attend school nor had a governess. Elizabeth may not have had any real teaching, but she learned a
lot from reading in an interrogating conversation with Lady Catherine about her education, Eliza says,

Catherine, Darcy s prideful aunt, played a major role in the novel. She is in no way a civilized woman.

Adolf Hitler never cared and wanted all power, he killed jews for the fault of the loss of World War 1. Although Hitler had some skills that made him a significant leader. Germany had been weak since the loss of World War 1 with the Weimar Republic, This had some consequences for Germany. Although after Adolf Hitler became chancellor he made Germany big again by rearming his army and taking power. Before Hitler was chancellor the Weimar Republic was an unofficial, historical designation for the German state. Weimar Republic flag for Germany was a striped flag going from one end to the other with the colors of black on top, red on the middle, and yellow at the bottom.Weimar Republic existed as the designation for Germany for 14 years, between 1919 and 1933. • 3. Movie Critique On The Industrial Organizational Psychology... Movie Critique on the Industrial Organizational Psychology present in Antz Introduction The 1998 film Antz is an excellent depiction of the industrial and organizational work force. Being that the film is a Dream Works animation, it has a simple and attention grabbing plot that is given to the viewer through the perspective of a hero, and in this context an colony ant worker named Z (Darnell et al., 1998). This peculiar, open minded ant portrayed several topics related to industrial organizational psychology such as leadership, occupational stress, and job satisfaction. In addition to the prevalent presence of industrial psychology that can be seen in the main character, other characters and details of the plot are representative of industrial psychology as well. Elements such as organizational commitment and employee selection are intriguingly exemplified through this moralistic story of ants (Darnell et al., 1998). In the film Antz, the once miserable and dissatisfied protagonist finds bliss and hope in the colony princess, Princess Bala at a worker s bar. Z leaves the work colony for a day to pursue his newfound love interest by pretending to be a soldier for a day. Unfortunately and unexpectedly, Z is sent into battle during his quest to re connect with Princess Bala (Darnell et al., 1998). However, he turns out to be the only soldier to survive the battle. This results in him seeing the princess again, insulting the General, kidnapping Princess ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This blemished chapter in our national history. The time has now come for our nation to turn a new page. A new page in Australia s history by writing the wrongs of the past and so moving forward with confidence to the future. • 5. Business Communication Essay example Business communication needs to become interpersonal again. No matter how we believe our human forms came into existence, we were built to need personal contact and function best with face to face communication. As children, we desired comfort from touch, a hug from our mothers. As teenagers, we held hands with our boyfriend or girlfriend. As adults in the workforce, we still need to feel that connection and comfort with our families and the people we work with. As Susan RoAne (2008), owner of a speaking, consulting, and coaching business, discusses one way we feel this connection is through getting to know and building trust by communicating in person. Through this interpersonal interaction, we not only feel more comfortable around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the greatest success of the business, employees need interpersonal communication to connect with their co workers. A leadership expert, John C. Maxwell (2010) says: Connecting goes beyond words. (p. 41). Physically being in the same room, verbally speaking thoughts, engaging in eye contact, and being able to see nonverbal responses are all important and add to a person s understanding of the message being communicated and feeling a connection. Overall, communicating face to face is more natural for employees. An employee knows who is hearing what they are saying and seeing their nonverbal gestures. The employee can either get immediate feedback whether or not the person understands or agrees or disagrees. The communication does not have to be formatted as it does on paper. An employee should still present themselves professionally, but communicating face to face is a process, instead of format. Through in person communication, employees will be able to not only build needed connections, but relationships and trust with co workers in the business. Maslow s hierarchy of needs is like a staircase, a person needs to satisfy the lower stairs to easily reach and fulfill the higher staircases. • 6. Difference Between Prospect Theory And Prospect Theory INTRODUCTION Generally, it is believed the net effect of the gains and losses involved with each choice are combined to present an overall evaluation of whether a choice is desirable. Scholars tend to use utility to state enjoyment and contend that we prefer instances that maximize our utility. However, studies have found that we don t actually process information in such a rational way. Kahneman and Tversky presented an idea called prospect theory in 1979, which contends that people value gains and losses differently, and, as such, will base decisions on perceived profits rather than perceived losses. Thus, if a person were given two equal choices, one expressed in terms of possible gains and the other in possible losses, people would choose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, in prospect theory, people derive utility from gains and losses, measured relative to some reference point, rather than from absolute levels of wealth: the argument of Kahneman and Tversky motivate this assumption, known as reference dependence, with explicit experimental evidence (see, for example, Problems 11 and 12 in their 1979 paper), but also by noting that our perceptual system works in a similar way: we are more attuned to changes in attributes such as brightness, loudness, and temperature than we are to their absolute ... • 7. Arguments In Favor Of Animal Testing Hannah Bjorklund Mr. Wills English 10 2 February 2016 Animal Testing Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures... (Einstein). Every year, an immense number of animals are unwillingly subjected to testing in laboratories across the United States. If action is not taken, millions of lab animals will continue to die and suffer not only in America, but universally. Animal testing stems all the way back to the ancient Greeks, Romans, and Arabs, and has since then expanded into a global issue (Scutti). Currently, more than 26 million animals are used for product development and drug testing, as well as medical research ( Should ). Many, if not most, of these lab tests ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, the practice has produced many treatments necessary in saving human lives. For example, the discovery of the polio vaccine reduced global instances of the disease from 350 thousand cases in 1988 to 223 in 2012 ( Should ). Considering over 371 million people worldwide have diabetes (Castillo), the invention of insulin has saved countless lives since its discovery. Animal testing has also offered a better understanding of conditions such as tuberculosis, cystic fibrosis, multiple sclerosis, many types of cancer like leukemia and breast cancer, and countless other diseases ( Should ). Not only does animal research yield lifesaving medical treatments and advancements, the animals involved are protected by various laws and regulations. The most prominent of these laws is the Animal Welfare Act, or AWA, which has been in effect since 1966. Not only does the AWA regulate the types of animals tested on, it also requires minimum housing standards for the research animals. For instance, all lab animals must be provided with a suitable enclosure size, fresh food and water, and a comfortable habitat temperature ( Should ). Furthermore, all persons requesting to use animals for experimentation must have their request approved by their facility s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, or IACUC. All facilities are also required to employ veterinarians, animal care specialists, and animal health technicians to best insure considerate treatment of the lab animals ( Should ). While living in poor conditions is mainly bad for the animals, it also affects the results of the experiments themselves. Neglected animals produce inaccurate test results, due to many of their characteristics only being observable if they are contented, meaning humane treatment of lab animals is better for the researchers as ... An hour of AP Social Studies homework and 7th grade English homework in when a gust of wind came through the closed window. How do I put this, there was a noise. A very dim, subtle noise. A ZING,ssive, easygoing way, and the women said to us in a soft, calm voice, We are your parents, we want to take you home . My brother and I were abandoned when he was 6 months old. One morning my father was making me chocolate chip pancakes and the next, I was alone. Imagine a five year old calling 911 saying your parents were abducted by aliens. That s what I wanted to believe. After I turned 10, I realized that every prayer wasn t worth it. My parents were never coming back. My brother and I were taken to Child Services the next day and we sent to Billy and Jen s house, me scared little 5 year old about to take on a world of responsibilities. We got home and Billy gave me a puppy and told me that she was there for me when they weren t and to take care of my brother. They left me there for a week, so I called Miss Tammy, the child services lady and she took me to a new home. We stayed there until I turned 13. It was a group home and they gave us food, shelter, and, educational opportunities. But no true compassion or a parent like figure. • 9. Different Political Sysytems In the vast majority of political systems, which have gone through the processes of federalisation or decentralization, the courts have assumed a prominent role in resolving intergovernmental disputes. However, academics, such as Alan Trench and Robert Hazel, agree, that courts role in the working of devolution in the United Kingdom was limited. They name political congruence in the UK as a main factor minimizing the role of the judiciary in the devolution process. There also is a number of secondary factors adding to it. Such as the limited role accorded to lawyers and legal issues in the UK s governmental system, the high degree of flexibility of the devolution settlements and a political nature of the UK s constitution, which favours resolution of intergovernmental disputes by means other than courts. Despite the chance that once devolution legislation comes into force, the case law builds up and devolved legislatures become more active, courts role is more likely to become more significant as a result of third party litigation, Alan Trench predicts that the role of courts in most intergovernmental matters is unlikely to change due to hindering factors mentioned above. We will elaborate on them further. Yet, we still know peculiarly little about the element of the word glamour or the artistic taste behind its significance. Glamour is existence that is difficult to define, but is instantly substantial. Our society inundate photographs that revolve around hollywood movie stars. In my own words, glamour is an unreal quality that uplifts an individual into the dimension of something else, their natural beauty and desire is above anything we see in everyday life. Glamour recognition in the 1930s from Hollywood film industry. During the 1930s publicity agents from hollywood concentrated on advertising the actress on film, advertising these stars was a main source to photograph them. The photo had to get audiences attention right away, without fail, every time. This photograph is categorized as a glamour portrait. • 11. Rate Of Osmosis As suggested by the graph above and the data obtained through the conduction of the experiment, an evident correlation between the surface area to volume ration and the rate of osmosis can be implied. As can be seen from the graph, as the surface area and volume ratio of the cube is increased, the % change in mass is decreased (as suggested by the % change in mass of 2 x 2 x 2 cube). In a contradicting manner, as the SA: V of the potato cube in decreased, the % change in mass of the potato cube in increased (as suggested by the % change in mass of 1 x 1 x 1 cube). This pattern in the data reinforces the hypothesising statement, which stated that if the size of potato is larger, then the rate of osmosis would be gradual due to its smaller volume to surface area ratio, whereas if the size of the potato is smaller, then the rate of osmosis would be faster. One explanation for the correlation between these variables is that an object with a large SA:V ratio comprises of a smaller surface for the chemical/substance (salt solution) to move across, allowing more compounds ... One probable explanation for this discrepancy in the results is that the groups 4 and 6 may have conducted the experiment incorrectly. Potential factors that may have caused these inconsistencies in results, include a damaged weighing scale and a damaged timer, which could ve misled the experimenters of groups 4 and 6 by displaying the incorrect time. This would mean that the potatoes were kept in the salt solution for more or less than 20 minutes, which would explain the vast difference in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Linda Kerber s Women Of The Republic LINDA KERBER: WOMEN OF THE REPUBLIC Name: (Class Information): Date: The ideals by the Republicans which came into the limelight after the Revolutionary War would set into motion a revolution not just in the United States but in many countries across the world. Linda Kerber s Women of the Republic is a demonstration of the paradigm shift in relation to the US social and political structures after the American Revolution. Kerber observes that not only did the war provide more opportunities to women but also set a platform for women to chart the way forward politically. This important role is what came later to be known as the Republican Motherhood. The concept of Republican Motherhood demonstrates the important role that woken played politically in addition to attending to their traditional roles of domestic responsibility. Women of the Republic demonstrates the expanded role of women politically amidst the rising influence of their male counterparts in civic responsibility. Kerber states that the American Revolution provided a platform for women to express themselves away from ideological ferment that was premised on the confines of a family set up. This situation might perhaps explain why there were few women leaders during the period leading to the Revolution War. • 14. Teenage Stereotypes Lazy, Disrespectful, Selfish, Technology Crazed. These are just a few of the words that come to mind when the typical adult describes the everyday teenager. To some, these descriptions are taken as a given fact and lack recognition of the issue this poses to the individuals on the receiving end of such. This is the exact issue present in discrimination and stereotyping. For years, a specific group of individuals has been reduced to the negative connotations presented against them by every other group that lacks such quality such as their race, gender, appearance, age ...etc. Every instance applicable contains the common ground in which the other groups fail to recognize the harm in their superficial classifications of one another due to narrow minded tendencies. This is the basis to every single form of discrimination. An incredibly oppressed group who is by far, no stranger to these circumstances are teens who continuously receive the hostility of adults for simply belonging to their age group. Present day teenagers have come to be placed in an inaccurate box that classifies them as a selfish, immature group by adults due several factors, the most prominent being the media and the form it introduces teens to the average adult. The constant incorrect portrayal of teens in movies, t.v. and other platforms has caused adult audiences to believe these classifications and thus, cause several issues to be inflicted upon teens in several areas of their lives that calls for ... • 17. Analysis Of The Central Themes From Shakespeare s Henry Iv What is honor? That question is one of the central themes from Shakespeare s Henry IV. Throughout the play Shakespeare provides many different views of honor, but never directly states what honor is. Which makes sense because honor is a rather abstract concept that seems to vary depending on who states their opinion. There are some universal ideas of honorable deeds but the word itself is rarely defined by individuals. Two of the characters within the play have very different ideas of honor and vary greatly in their desire for it. They are Hotspur and Falstaff, Hotspur appears to have a very clear idea of what honor is and he pursues honor with great fervor. However, Falstaff questions the very existence of honor and has little to no desire for it. The ideas of Falstaff and Hotspur about honor are vastly different. Falstaff and Hotspur differ significantly in their idea of honor. Hotspur believes honor is all about glory and being the center of attention. While Falstaff is only certain that the dead have honor but is unsure about what it is as described by this excerpt of his soliloquy, No. What is honour? . Hotspur believes that honor is derived from epic or heroic deeds, these deeds tends to be very physical in nature such as the honor gained from battle. Nearly 90 years later, it is now an organization with more than 7.4 million members, offering banking, investing, retirement and insurance services worldwide. Since its inception, USAA has expanded membership eligibility to include all members of the Armed Forces and their family. Weakness #2 No Particular Agent The second organizational weakness is the lack of personalized service. It s impossible to give personal attention to as many members as USAA has like it is for a smaller community bank and insurance provider. Since the organization is so large, it is easy to feel lost in the mix and just another number. Smaller community banks and insurance providers have the benefit of getting to know their clients personally, may be better able to serve their specific concerns and clients tend to be more comfortable doing business with someone from their own community with whom they deal with consistently. Also, it can be frustrating that you are unable to speak to the same representative twice when calling a large business such as USAA. USAA can minimize this weakness by creating teams of representatives for their members. Each member can be assigned to a team of 5 7 USAA representatives, one of which will be answering that members concern. Teams would be comprised of representatives from each specialty (IRA planning, mortgage help, banking etc.) and be available only to their customers. This strategy would provide comfort to the members who like to deal with the same individuals when doing business. If the wrongs of every event in history were to be scrutinized would we have a history left to celebrate? Even the other holidays honoring great men can have a darker side. MLK day for example; Martin Luther King, or Michael Luther King, was under scrutiny because his doctorate had blatant plagiarism, also his I Have a Dream speech was plagiarized from a pastor from his church he attended. This shows that history and the light we view people in can be skewed to retain the honor or the pomp and circumstance that comes with remembering the good brought about by their achievements. Beyond the fact that Columbus was not the first person to discover the Americas, he was the man that brought about European civilization to America and their fascination with conquering a new world. Kendrick ordered the Code Red, didn t he? Because that s what you told Lieutenant Kendrick to do! (A Few Good Men). The Working Class In Edith Wharton s The House Of Mirth challenging or overcoming the marketplace is not even possible: she approaches the topic from an aristocratic perspective, which offers no alternative to the standard of a business centered society. Para. 28: Wharton nevertheless tries to overcome this impossibility by exploring it through the working class. The character of Nettie, for instance, is representative of being outside the exchange system, and therefore able to transcend the exchange system. Para. 29: Placing her hope for change within her idealized vision of the working class, Wharton seeks to find an exit from the confines of the marketplace mentality. Dimock s final argument, then, is that the House of Mirth is Wharton s critique of a system that places arbitrary values on human experiences for the sake of short term capital gain. In Debasing Exchange: Edith Wharton s The House of Mirth, Wai Chee Dimock seeks to prove how The House of Mirth acts as an illuminating critique of the society in which it is set, namely how and why social interactions are defined by an all pervasive system of exchange that ultimately defines all other aspects of the characters lives. Structural Testing And Component Integration Testing Essay  The structural testing is the testing of the structure of the system or component.  Structural testing is often referred to as white box or glass box or clear box testing because in structural testing we are interested in what is happening inside the system/application .  In structural testing the testers are required to have the knowledge of the internal implementations of the code. Here the testers require knowledge of how the software is implemented, how it works.  During structural testing the tester is concentrating on how the software does it. For example, a structural technique wants to know how loops in the software are working. Different test cases may be derived to exercise the loop once, twice, and many times. This may be done regardless of the functionality of the software.  Structural testing can be used at all levels of testing. Developers use structural testing in component testing and component integration testing, especially where there is good tool support for code coverage. In 2004, the company management team planned to take measures to ensure the viability of the company during the shift towards digital. With this decision, Fujifilm remained a force to be reckoned with in the photography industry. With the economic down spiral was occurring in 2008 Fujifilm was reporting record breaking profits and earnings. Understanding the Global crisis of an impending recession Fujifilm once again took action to maintain their viability. This time the company implemented a series of decisive Group and division wide structural reforms over a two year period commencing the fiscal year ended March 31, 2010 (Annual Report, pg. 4). While Fujifilm was embracing the new technology and moving towards the digital world Kodak remained stalled. While failing to embrace the new digital age of cameras, the company that invented the first hand held camera saw its company collapse. The company filed for bankruptcy protection in 2010 to protect some of their assets. Although, Kodak was beginning to lose profits in 2007 their management team did nothing to increase the company revenues and prevent the inevitable. In court documents the company that once boasted earnings in the billions was cash poor and operating in the red. According to papers filed with the U.S. bankruptcy court in ... • 36. Irony In The Most Dangerous Game Irony and imagery are both important writing tools, used to guide the reader through the story while keeping them engaged and thinking about the story complexly. When used together successfully, the reader can walk away with something to think about, a new perspective on something they might have thought different about before. When considering this, I would argue that The Most Dangerous Game, is overall a better story than The Necklace . In both stories, irony is used to to teach a lesson. In Richard Cowell s The Most Dangerous Game, he tells a story of a hunter who is put into the place of the hunted. At the beginning of the story the protagonist, Reinsford, boasts about the extravagant nature of hunting for sport. The best sport in the world, (Cowell, 1924, p. 54) is ... The irony used in this story is easily relatable to the reader, everyone at one point in time has had some sort of drastic change in opinion. Whether it is about something as relative as the quality of a story, or something considerably more important, like what makes something s life important, we have all had that feeling. On the other hand, we have The Necklace, by Guy De Maupassant. Maupassant s use of irony is less relatable and more comedic. He does this very well, oh my poor Mathilde, but mine was only paste! (Maupassant, 1884, p. 208) A punch line of sorts, a funny ending to a unfunny story. It is unexpected, and gets the reader to remember what has happened earlier in the story, but when looking for an overarching theme, the humor could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Essay On Reading Is An Extension Of You Reading: An Extension of You According to the Children s Literacy Foundation, one out of six children who do not read at their respective age level by the end of third grade will not graduate from high school. This reality is not only disturbing but also highlights the undisputable relationship between reading and further learning. Without the proper foundation that reading lays, children will simply fall through the shaky structure below them towards a life of poverty and, surprisingly often, crime. Furthermore, in my not so humble opinion reading, along with general literacy, is the bridge between the schoolyard and the real world. Unfortunately, kids, tweens, teens, and adults often burn that bridge in favor of other activities, such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The 300 and 900 sections of the library were my reading havens. On a date that I cannot recall, it was thirteen years ago, I went to Berkley and Jensen s (BJ s) with my mother and I went to the book table while she shopped for groceries, as was my custom. On that slab filled with fantasy, romance, and Lego visual dictionaries I discovered one of my favorite books to date, Great Battles: Decisive Conflicts That Have Shaped History. The book depicts battles ranging from Marathon to the Tet Offensive and enthralls the reader with varying perspectives and full detail maps. I loved looking at those maps and imagining that the battle was playing out in front of my very eyes. I learned two things about myself and life because of this book: a one sided conflict or debate does not exist and you do not have to be the strongest, tallest, or most likeable to win. All you need to win is conviction, intelligence, and ambition. From then on, I interpreted reading as an opportunity to view two sides of an argument and an opportunity to make my own decisions about who or what I should or should not support. As Winston Churchill once said, You have enemies? Good. That means you ve stood up for something, sometime in your life. Approximately six years later, I graduated from the ninth grade to the tenth grade, congratulations to me. I have to confess, when I saw that I had to read Shakespeare and Homer over ... • 38. Pride And Prejudice Social Class Should being in a different social class have an effect on how you feel about someone? Even if the person has a pure heart, but low in social status? Jane Austen outlines in Pride and Prejudice the substances of social class, pride, and women s rights. Austen satirizes the social standing of the upper classes and how they treated people of the lower class. How the people in the eighteenth century and also Pride and Prejudice were split into categories by what they have or what they know are very similar. In Pride and Prejudice, Austen describes to the reader how women were treated differently from men; whether it was in education, the workforce, or politically. Women typically did not have an education in the eighteenth century, as for Elizabeth and her sisters, they were among the girls who was not able to attend school nor had a governess. Elizabeth may not have had any real teaching, but she learned a lot from reading in an interrogating conversation with Lady Catherine about her education, Eliza says, . . . such of us as wished to learn, never wanted the means. We were always encouraged to read and had all the masters that were necessary. Those who chose to be idle certainly might (Pride and Prejudice 86). Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
