Institutional Environment as a Determinant of Chinese...
Institutional Environment as a Determinant of Chinese Private Firm Export Behaviors:Does
productivity counter the effect of institutional environment?
We introduce institutional environment as a measure of the degree to which policies and institutes in
one region differ from those in another region in china, where market are distorted across space and
region[1]. We employ a modified heterogeneous firm model developed by Mayer and Melitz et
al(2011)[12] to examine whether such institutional environment differences affect the firms export
behavior. Employing data for china firm level exports in 29 province for which measures of
institutional environment can be constructed, we find that better institutional environment enhances
firm s export behavior. This results holds for the low level of financial constrains firms, but are
reversed by the con export effect of productivity in the aggregate firms and the high level of financial
constraints firms. Productivity is found to exert a con export effect that completely offsets the trade
enhancing effects of institutional environment.
I. Introduction
Despite a voluminous literature on the impact of firm productivity on export behavior, the effects
that institutional environment differences among regions may have on firm s export behavior and the
extent to which productivity may counter these effects have received little attention. Institutional
environment difference is defined as the degree to which policies and regulations

Sight And Survival Of Sight
Sight, for many people, is the one sense they feel would be the most difficult to live without. We rely
on sight to read, find our way around, cook our meals, do our jobs, and consume our entertainment.
For many animals, their sense of sight is of vital importance for their survival. For example, hawks
and eagles rely on their incredible vision to spot prey from the sky. Large predatory cats, such as lions
and jaguars, will use their improved night vision to hunt unsuspecting prey in the dark. The loss of
sight means almost certain death for a large amount of animals, as sight is mainly used for awareness
of surroundings, avoiding predators, and hunting prey. However, this is not to say that some creatures
do not rely on sight to survive; many animals, such as shrimp and fish in low or zero light
environments have not evolved to have a sense of vision, but instead rely on other senses to
understand their surroundings, find prey, or avoid predators. Then again, sight is so important for
survival on Earth that it has independently evolved across multiple species1; this is known as
convergent evolution. As Darwin puts it, the eye, such a perfect organ, being formed by natural
selection seems ...absurd in the highest degree ,1 but true nonetheless. Sight is one of the greatest and
most complex marvels produced by natural selection.

Essay on Simon vs. Roger in Lord of the Flies
In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, Simon represents the innate morality of humans, acting as a
Christ like figure, while Roger embodies the all present cruelty and inherent sadism of individuals.
Throughout the novel, Simon remains unchanged in terms of morality, as others slowly turn to
savagery and hunting, as can be seen when Jack s group become, demoniac figures with faces of white
and red and green. Instead Simon finds a quiet spot in a little cabin screened off from the open space
by a few leaves. By holding his breath, he [cocks] a critical ear at the sounds of the island, using his
secret cabin to meditate. Coupled with his deep connection to nature, Simon is revealed to be a Christ
figure. When left alone with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He led the way straight through the castles, kicking them over, burying the flowers, scattering the
chosen stones, only to remain, watching the littluns. Maurice, however, still felt the unease of
wrongdoing. Jack s only fault was yearning for power, which corrupts those who wield it. Roger is
corrupted and malevolent without ever thirsting for this power, and is therefore more evil than Jack.
Roger keeps to himself, much like Simon, and remains consistently evil throughout the novel. Near
the beginning, he picked up a stone, aimed, and threw it at Henry threw it to miss, held back by the
taboo of the old life. Later, he did not miss and with a sense of delirious abandonment, leaned all his
weight on the lever, releasing a huge boulder and killing Piggy. Under the weight of the boulder, the
conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist. The main symbol for the
democracy, equality and justice was indirectly destroyed by Roger. To him, Ralph was a shock of hair
and Piggy a bag of fat, thus dehumanizing and objectifying them. When Sam and Eric were cornered
by Jack s group of savages, Roger demonstrates his enjoyment for hurting others by [advancing] upon
them as one wielding a nameless authority. It was not for the sake of supremacy or control, but for
unbridled sadistic pleasure. When Ralph finds Sam and Eric, they say that Roger is a terror . He also

An Analysis Of Nevermind s Cover Art
Nevermind s cover art was one such political statement, a clear expression of disgust towards
capitalism. (Bickerdike, 2014)
Never mind the English idiom don t judge a book by its cover . As a consumerist society, we tend to
instinctively make assumptions based on initial appearance. Since the invention on the LP back in
1948, the recording industry adapted the concept of the cover art as to visually represent the artists and
music. Music albums across the world are sold inside universal sleeves branded with a particular
image allowing the work to be instantly recognisable amongst all others. The cover art of Nirvana s
1991 release Nevermind has prevailed to be one of the most recognizable album covers of all time.
The image reflects the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The word Nirvana is written in bold and formal capital letters and is underlined. This could connote a
sense of seriousness while communicating WE ARE NIRVANA. THIS IS OUR ALBUM. THIS IS
OUR MESSAGE. Sitting underneath the bold band name, the never mind font is slightly warped. The
warped font can connote with feeling of being submerged underwater, further linking with cover art s
intended ideology. Observing the two words together could interpret a deeper meaning. The meaning
of the world nirvana according to an online dictionary is defined as a place or state characterized by
freedom from or oblivion to pain, worry, and the external world. (Dictionary.com) The word never

reality, further implying the message behind the art s political

The Hopeless Outlook for Victorian Society in H.G. Wells ...
The Hopeless Outlook for Victorian Society in H.G. Wells The Time Machine In the Time Machine ,
H G Wells writes about what he depicts the future to be like. He explains in great detail his views of
evolution and Dystopia. The world he has travelled to could for all he knows be another planet. It is
the definition of a Dystopia, with to opposite species living against each other, one calm and peaceful
whilst the other is out to destroy the calm species, needing to kill them to live. Wells writes about a
future where technology has advanced so much that people become lazy causing technology to go
back on itself. In the first two chapters of the novel, Wells depicts the Victorian age as a ... Show more

A time machine is a very detailed piece of work, it is also very technologically advanced. When the
Time Traveller arrives in the future, he is initially impressed by the world he finds, he is lost for words
as is he is impressed with what he sees around him, My sensations would be hard to describe, The
Time Traveller cannot describe his feelings for what he can see, perhaps this is because it is so
different from what he is used to, and Victorians are possibly not used to such a change. They live in a
very ordinary world where doing the same and everything being the same all the time is normal. The
whole place seems new to him and he is not used to it. His descriptions are odd as he describes it as a
waste of beautiful bushes and flowers, his surroundings are also described as shadowy and mysterious.
These descriptions show it is in a way peaceful, but different. The people he meets seem to have a
certain lack of interest In the Time Traveller, which could mean they are not alarmed by him as they
have never come across anything of any danger during the day time, maybe they feel he is of no harm
as he is not attacking during the night. At first sight the Time traveller notices huge impressive

1984 Similarities Between 1984 And 1984
1984 is based in a dystopian world that is controlled by the supreme leader, Big Brother. Big Brother
and other members of the inner party have the ability to watch every move a citizen makes, hear every
conversation, and read every thought. The country of Oceania is controlled by 4 ministries that
maintain the jobs in the government. The ministry of peace controls all war for Oceania. The ministry
of plenty deals with all the economics for Oceania. The ministry of love handles law and order for
Oceania. The ministry of truth controls all news articles, entertainment, education, and art. Winston
Smith, being the protagonist, works in the ministry of truth. He secretly hates Big Brother and the rest
of the party.
The Hunger Games is also based in a dystopian world which is controlled by The Capitol. The country
is split into 13 districts. Each district is numbered 1 13. The richer districts are 1 9 and the poorest
districts are 10 13. The country is controlled by one party who decides all and every year they have a

government has their own strategy for keeping an eye on their citizens. Telescreens, small

Nitrate-Nitrite
The nitrate nitrite NO pathway can have beneficial health effects. Dietary nitrate has been shown to
improve the mitochondrial functioning as it affects proteins involved in uncoupling contributing to an
increase performance in exercise. The pathway begins through consumption of dietary nitrates that are
converted to nitrites by bacteria in the oral cavity. The reduction of nitrates to nitrites may affect
hemoglobin. Excess nitrites added to deoxygenated hemoglobin will oxidize to form methemoglobin
and nitric oxide (Gladwin Kim Shapiro,
2008). This formation can hinder oxygen transport and is the common cause for concern in nitrite
toxicity. Formation of nitric oxide allows for its use and reuse in cellular activities and may carry out

The body must go through chemical processes for healthy cellular function and homeostasis. Human
beings not only consume dietary nitrates but, the body also synthesizes nitrates endogenously. This
arises from the oxidation of nitrogen oxide and its end products. The synthesis of nitrates to nitrites
occurs endogenously and exogenously in the body. Consumption of inorganic nitrates and nitrites will
undergo reductive processes for the body s use and elimination. Nitrates and Nitrites both contain
nitrogen in its chemical structure. Nitrogen, in of itself, is often conserved to be reused by the body s
cells. Inorganic nitrates and nitrates that are consumed must be equally eliminated. The metabolism of
nitrates and nitrites ultimately result in its elimination through salivary excretion or urination.
Ingestion of inorganic nitrates will first undergo reductive activity in the oral cavity through the
bacteria present on the tongue. The metabolism continues until nitrites are converted to nitric oxide
where it enters the circulatory system and distributed to different target tissues. The concentration of
nitrites in the salivary glands account for 25% of total dietary intake of nitrates (Gehle, 2007). The
remaining concentration of nitrites are distributed in circulation and eventually eliminated through the
urine. Each route of elimination helps to rid the body of potentially toxic

Analysis Of Student Performance
Once students on track predictors are established, schools must create systems that are conducive to
student success. While the indicators do not offer information to specific interventions, researchers
have studied those strategies that impact growth in the areas of attendance and course performance.
Mac Iver, Sheldon, Naeger and Clark (2017) summarize that student performance is most impacted by
quality instruction and positive classroom climate. Teacher collaboration impacts each of these
elements and as Allensworth and Easton (2017) state, the quality and quantity of teachers working
together to share responsibility for student success will impact the percent of students who are on
track. In large cities like Chicago where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research Strategies
In this study, there will be a focus on two groups of students: those graduating high school and those
entering high school in the 2017 18 school year. A quantitative study will examine the on track status
of these students over the course of their years in high school. Given these on track rates and
consistency among the rates, the cohort graduation rate will be assessed for numbers of students who
graduate, are accepted to post secondary education, those who enroll and over time persist toward
completion of a college degree. Data will be collected from historic data that is available to the school
in regard to grades, attendance and overall GPA throughout semesters and over time. Acceptance rate
information will be collected through surveys and interviews, and persistence rates will be collected
through the use of interviews and evaluation of student transcripts. The second group of students will
be the recipients of targeted strategies and interventions to support their remaining on track given their
status at the end of their eighth grade year. Qualitative data above will be supported by survey and
interview results of teachers and individual students experiences with each intervention.
Justification for Methodology Decisions The use of quantitative data is necessary for the tracking of
on track success, as well as supporting the effectiveness of strategy implementation. The researcher
will be able to determine if

Nature Vs Nurture In Criminal Behavior
Criminal behavior has always been a focus for psychologists for several years. When studying
criminal psychology, psychologists engage in many various kinds of investigation and
experimentation to try and find out why criminals commit offence. What is a criminal s motive and
what makes them commit a crime? Is it the responsibility of an individual s genetic makeup that
makes them a criminal or is it the environment in which they are raised and surrounded by that
determines their criminal behavior? Extensive research has been conducted regarding these questions.
Several conclusions have been generated from a number of twin studies, family studies, adoption
studies, and laboratory experiments. There are many conclusions that gear towards both ... Show more

Behaviorists argue that people are not born with a violent disposition; rather they learn to think and act
violently as a result of their everyday experiences (Bandura, 1977). Albert Bandura (1977) states
behavior is learned from the environment through the process of observational learning. This popular
behavioral notion is known as the social learning theory. Bandura believes that humans are active
information processors and think about the relationship between their behavior and its consequences.
Studies of family life, for example, show that aggressive children often model the violent behaviors of
their parents. In 1961, Bandura conducted the famous bobo doll experiment in which children
observed the people around them behaving in various ways. The experiment involved exposing
children to two different adult models; an aggressive model and a non aggressive one. After observing
the adults and their aggressive or non aggressive behavior, the children were later allowed to play in a
room with the Bobo doll by themselves. When they played with the doll by themselves, alone in a
room, they began to imitate the actions they had previously observed by the adults. The children who
had observed the adults aggressively playing with the doll imitated a similar aggressive behavior
while playing with the doll alone. Those who observed the

The Characteristics Of Black Panthers

tell you how they are, but in other reasons they are a little bit of differences between the two of them
they have many similarities as well. There actual name of the cat is black leopard. There basically
black cats that are called like this. So therefore this will be about how different and similar they look
from regular leopards, On how their intelligence is extremely well from other animals/ how protective
they are as well, and How their heights, weight and size are different than the other big cats that they
are related to or considered. All in all the these topics will describe what black leopards really are. The
panthers are exactly like the leopard. why? because they have spots on them that you can t really see
so they are similar by that. They are different looking because according to the World Encyclopedia
edition, All leopards are much alike, but those that live in the forest are darker than those that live on
open plains and desert scrub (Duane 202). Here in this part it explains how they are differences

Manson was referred to both as God and Satan by his followers. As the family s guru, he claimed to be
a reincarnation of Jesus Christ. The police and DA argue that Manson found sections within the
Beatles song Helter Skelter and within the last book in the Christian Bible, Revelation which he felt
referred to a devastating future race war between blacks and whites. Although Manson is not believed
to have killed anyone directly, he ordered his followers to commit the famous Tate, LaBianca and
other murders.
Because cultic behavior underlies more than extremist religious sects, many psychologists refer to
these groups as charismatic groups. A charismatic group consists of a dozen or more members, even
hundreds or thousands. It is characterized by the following psychological elements: members (1) have
a shared belief system, (2) sustain a high level of social cohesiveness, (3) are strongly influenced by
the group s behavioral norms, and (4) impute charismatic
(or sometimes divine) power to the group or its leadership (Galanter, 1989, p. 5). Most psychologists
would probably acknowledge that there exists a deep human need to belong to a group. Often, this
need leads people to form what might be viewed as unhealthy allegiances to a person or group who,
ultimately, does not truly have the person s interest at heart. Sigmund Freud also believed wanting to
belong to a group is a

Transfiguration In The Eucharist
The first Eucharistic transfiguration was conducted by Jesus Christ at the Last Supper. The Last
Supper was the final meal Jesus shared with his Disciples in Jerusalem. The meal also commemorated
His establishment of the priesthood. At the Last Supper also identified as Mass, Jesus articulated to his
Apostles, the forerunners of the current bishops, to reenact His enactment in commemorative of his
passing. The Church has traditionally imparted how the Eucharist has originated at the Last Supper
and how the initial society followed Jesus command to break bread in his name (Acts 2:42). Luke s
Gospel also expresses Jesus words: Do this in memory of me . During the Mass, Catholics faithfully
unleavened bread and wine are transformed into the body and blood of Jesus Christ through a process
known as transubstantiation. This has been an action completed by Jesus during the Passover meal
who uttered the words This is my body, which is given for you. Subsequently, he passes a cup filled
with wine. He then says, This is my blood... It is believed those who eat of Christ s flesh and blood
shall have eternal life. Since that period, the Church has devotedly obeyed the Lord s commands, the
Last Supper is renowned everyday through the commemorating of Mass. Throughout the past decades,
the practice of Latin has developed into a site of Catholic traditionalism, however in the upcoming
years this has shifted due to the discharge of the new liturgy, the older form of mass;

For the organic layer, we had a melting point range of 240 243°C. For the IR spectra, we did note the
C Cl bond although there was not an OH bond present. ANALYSIS The reaction involves a
nucleophilic acyl substitution on an aldehyde, with the leaving group concurrently attacking another
aldehyde in the second step. First the Potassium hydroxide attacks a carbonyl, which forms a
tetahedral intermediate which then collapses when attacked by another hydroxide. The carbonyl is
formed again when its hydride attacks another carbonyl. In the final step of the reaction, the acid and
alkoxide ions formed exchange a proton. In the presence of a very high concentration of base, the
aldehyde first forms a doubly charged anion from which a hydride ion is transferred to the second
molecule of aldehyde to form carboxylate and alkoxide ions. Subsequently, the alkoxide ion acquires a
proton from the solvent. 4 chlorobenzoic acid which was the aqueous layer has a theoretical melting

Napoleon s Reign Over Italy
Italy, as it is known today, has been in existence for less than one hundred fifty years. For several
centuries, Italy had been made up of separate states often ruled by foreign powers. In 1796, Napoleon
Bonaparte invaded and conquered the Italian peninsula. After falling under French rule, the peninsula
was divided into three parts: several northern states, which were annexed to France, the Kingdom of
Italy, of which Napoleon declared himself king in 1805, and the Kingdom of Naples in the south.
Napoleon and the French brought new ideas about society and governing with them. They also
brought the concepts of freedom and nationalism with them, which might have sparked Italy s later
attempts to achieve unity. Napoleon s reign over Italy crumbled with his defeat in 1814. Shortly after,
parts of Italy were distributed amongst other European countries, particularly Austria, and returned to
former rulers by the Congress of Vienna in 1815. Many people were unhappy with the actions of the
Congress and secret societies started to grow to oppose these rulers and promote the idea of a united
Italy. One of the secret societies set up in opposition to foreign rulers was called the Carbonari. This
nationalistic, revolutionary group started in Naples and spread northward. In 1820 they carried out a
successful revolution in Naples which forced King Ferdinand I to set up a new constitution and
parliament, but it was soon squashed by the Austrians. All their future uprisings failed, and in

Comparing Sea Turtles And Sea Turtles
Sea turtles are one of the most beautiful creatures in the ocean. They have been on this earth for more
than 110 million years in the era of dinosaurs. These guys have always caught my interest mostly due
to cuteness and how unique they are. They have always been my favorite because they are so peaceful
When I was younger, I had pet turtle named Shella, and she was absolutely my most favorite pet I
could ever ask for. Unfortunately, she was getting very big for her tank and would constantly had to be
cleaned and had a strong stench. We eventually took her and released her to a nearby lake.
Sea turtles do not really do much other than reproduce and looking pretty. They spend most of their
lives in water close to warm temperature and near the coast and their life span can be lived up to about
80 years. Although they are not on top of the food chain in the ocean, they use the outer shell to help
them survive and for use for protection around their body. The shell (carapace) not only helps protects
them but is also to help sea turtles swim with ease. You can tell the difference between a sea turtle and
a land turtle from many ways. Some observations you can make is the location of where you see them.
They are sometimes bigger than the average turtle and have softer shell. If you also notice how sea
turtles cannot retract their heads and legs into their shell when they are frightened or resting. Some,
but not all have a distinct color, sea turtles have a green and yellow pattern

John F. Kennedy said, War will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the
same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today. The idea that a soldier would refuse to
participate in war due to their moral and conscience beliefs shows how they can overcome the norm
and stand up for their beliefs. Until watching the movie Soldiers of Conscience I was unaware that a
soldier could break their contract with the government to follow their own personal views. Although
this is a difficult and tedious procedure if a soldier is found to be a conscientious objector they will be
dismissed from the Army with dishonorable discharge. To become a conscientious objector, the soldier
must fill out an application and be interviewed by a psychiatrist, chaplain, and investigating officer.
This process takes a long time and requires that the soldier has a strong belief in not participating in
war. A person who hopes to become a conscientious objector seeks a stronger moral principle or
connection to their faith. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The soldiers who chose to become conscientious objectors followed Nietzche s idea of an
Ubermensch. An Ubermensch is considered a super human who is able to define their morals and

Yes to oneself... Friedrich Nietzche acknowledges that it is difficult to fully commit oneself to
something and to consciously agree to it. The soldiers who had signed up for the Army second

International Adoption In The United States
After World War II, the dissolution of European families resulted in the significant increase in the
number of adoptions of foreign born children. This began America s active participation in what is
currently known as international, or intercountry, adoption. Every year for the last six decades,
Americans have adopted thousands of foreign born children. It is the process by which the prospective
adoptive parent adopts a child from a country other than the parent s own, through permanent legal
means, and brings that child to the parent s country of residence to live with the parent permanently.
Like domestic adoption, it is the legal transfer of parental rights and responsibilities from a child s
birth parents, or guardian, to a new parent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

mothers did not participate in the hearings to ascertain whether coercion or inducements influenced

First, my top ten values were difficult in itself to pick out because I feel like I could have had many of
the checklist highlighted. For instructional purposes I picked adventure, challenging problems, public
service, being around open and honest people, leadership, integrity, honesty, helping others, having a

Essay On Flood In Maryland
The first hazard that residents of Maryland are exposed to during a hurricane are floods. Floods can
become very dangerous in a coastal community that is already close to sea level. With a flood
becomes floodwater. Floodwater can seriously disrupt the personal transportation by cutting off the
roads in any area. With flooding, becomes standing water or wet materials within a structure. Standing
water or wet materials cause bacteria, mold, and viruses that can cause disease, which can trigger
allergic reactions, and continue to damage materials long after a flood has occurred. Severe floods not
only ruin homes or local businesses and destroy personal property, but the water left behind can cause
further damage to property and its contents. The environment and wildlife are also at risk with floods,
when damage occurs to homes or businesses, it can also cause the accidental release of toxic materials

Storm surge is an abnormal rise of water generated from a hurricane, over and above the predicted
tide. Most storm surges are caused from the strong winds of a hurricane or tropical storm. Storm
surges cause an abundant amount of flooding with no means of lowering until the winds and tides are
back to normal. A hurricane can produce destructive storm surge, which is water that is pushed toward
the shore by the force of the winds swirling around the storm. This advancing surge combines with the
normal tides to create the hurricane storm tide, which can increase the mean water level 15 feet or
more. According to the Eastern Shore Regional GIS Cooperative (ESRGC), Maryland has been
subject to its share of major flooding events from the first recorded flood on May 11, 1860 in
Baltimore City along Jones Falls to the devastating floods caused by the tidal surge of Hurricane
Isabel in mid September 2003. (Joyce

How It Is Our Cardinal Responsibility And Commitment That...
This chapter primarily discusses how it is our cardinal responsibility and commitment that we do not
destroy what we cannot re create and do not yet comprehend. The authors discuss on what would
destroy society first. Whether it be genetic diversity, nuclear war, the greenhouse effect, or even the
breakdown of the ozone layer. Significantly, working on one does not mean losing sight of the others.
But instead, we need to make connections between these issues and others. Furthermore, the authors
discuss the use of biological weapons remained a problem until recently, as the advent of
biotechnology gave new hope to germ warriors, in which naturally infectious agent can be increased
in virulence and harmful genes can be inserted into benign organisms. Considering this, who is to say
that the new disease is a natural mutation of the an old disease or the creation of military of military

the chemical and biological warfare program grew to a billion dollars annually. Meanwhile, federal
support for non military university research in the life sciences declined. This is because biological
warfare directed towards agriculture arouses less suspicious. It does not necessitate the vaccination of

The Consumption Of Two Goods
consumption of two goods
In economics a consumer is described as a rational individual who wishes to maximise their utility by
making rational choices. These choices appear when a consumer is exposed to two goods, where a
given amount of one good substitutes the use of another one. To calculate how a consumer can achieve
the optimal allocation of the two goods, an indifference curve is used and the analysis of an
indifference curve can be combined with the budget constraint. For the consumer, some combinations
are better than others for maximising utility, and the best combination is the optimal combination.
Consumers have preferences about the goods they consume. Therefore, when faced with a choice of
goods, the consumer must decide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consumers wish to have a higher number of goods than less. If the consumer added another book to
his bundle, he would have to sacrifice some water, in order to hold utility constant. One can calculate
how many glasses of water the consumer is willing to sacrifice for another book without changing his
total utility through the marginal rate of substitution. According to (BEGG et al., Economics, 11th
edition, McGraw Hill Education, 2014 ), the marginal rate of substitution between two goods
measures the quantity of a good the consumer must sacrifice to increase the quantity of the other good
by one unit without changing total utility. For example, if the consumer has 10 books and no water
and he reads 9 of these books, he won t enjoy the last one as much. Furthermore, by drinking no water
the consumer will be very dehydrated and won t enjoy reading at all, and so the utility of this
particular bundle would be extremely low. On the flip side, if the consumer drank a large amount of
water and read few books. As a result, he would be reluctant to sacrifice his books for even more
water. By and large, a consumer s preferences exhibit the diminishing marginal rate of substitution,
which means that when a consumer owns lot of one good, they will give up a comparatively large
amount of it to get another good of which they have little. We use indifference curves to portray our

The Classical And Hellenistic Period
Greek sculpture is known for its beauty and attention to detail. Two of the most prominent eras in
Greek sculpture are the Classical and Hellenistic periods. The Classical period took place from 500
323 BC. It is the period between Persian wars and ends with the death of Alexander the Great
(History). Classical sculptures are known for being less detailed more stagnant. The Hellenistic period
begins when the Classical period ends, in 323 BC. This period ends in 31 BC with the conquest of the
last Hellenistic kingdom by Rome (Simonin). Hellenistic sculptures are known for being more
realistic and active. Both periods of sculpture focused heavily on human anatomy, they just differed in
their approaches to illustrate the human body. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zeus gave Dionysus to Hermes to protect the baby from Zeus wife, who was jealous because Zeus
was unfaithful to his wife Hera with Dionysus s mother, Semele (Bergman). Hermes, the messenger of
the Greek gods, is sculpted leaning against what appears to be a tree covered in draping. His right arm,
that is broken, reaches upwards as if he is holding something. His left arm, holds a small child,
Dionysus, who reaches towards something that Hermes may have been holding. Dionysus is the god
of wine and fertility. The tree trunk alludes to symbolism of Dionysus as he is also the god of things
that grow by leaps and bounds suddenly in spring (Csapo 258). Dionysus was also known for the
chaos and parties that would erupt around him. Hermes appears to be looking at Dionysus. They are

Horse Primates Compare And Contrast
When we see an animal, do we ever think about what is going on deeper than the eye can see? Do you
ever think about all the things firing inside to keep things in balance and the animal functioning?
Horses and primates have many similarities as well as differences.
Starting with the skeletal system, the skulls on a primate and a horse are quite different. A primate s
skull usually lacks the large sagittal crest (Cavendish, 2010, pg.10). Just like a horse, they also have
very powerful jaws for chewing their food. They have very pronounced brow bones, and a large
forehead. However, in horses and in primates the head is very proportioned with the whole body.
Horses foreheads are typically flat and broad, while a primate s skull is quite smaller and more
rounded. Primates have a very flexible and short neck, while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They consume foods such as fruits, leaves, bark, stems, insects, and even other primates. Nothing is
off limits (Cavendish, 2010, pg.19). Horses on the other hand are herbivores, so they only eat plant
based foods. Horses have hindgut fermenters, which mean that they only have one stomach, but it
contains four different compartments to digest food. This contains the reticulum, rumen, omasum, and
the abomasum which is the true stomach. They also have a flap that hangs over the distal end of the
esophagus which prevents them from vomiting. Primates on the other hand, can vomit. Since horses
have hindgut fermenters, digestion is broken down into multiple segments. Those segments include
the cecum, ventral colon, and the dorsal colon (Miyaji, 2014). Primates digest their food a little
differently. There aren t many compartments the food has to travel through. Food travels down the
esophagus into the stomach, where it is met by stomach acid and food is broken down and passed
through the small and large intestine, nutrients are absorbed, and the waste is

The Current State Of Our Post Secondary Education System
The current state of our post secondary education system should not be judged simply by the growing
debt
accumulated by students and parents. Many of us are aware that the current outstanding debt of
college loans is
roughly a trillion dollars with growing delinquency rates. The issues with the post secondary
education system are often
limited to single item discussions such as textbook prices or rising tuition costs. These issues when
looked at unilaterally
do not give insight into the entire picture and often cause topical tunnel vision. The problems of higher
education are
multifaceted and born from the linkage between accreditation boards, educational institutions,
textbook publishers, and
federal aid. When focusing on these connections we find not only parasitic relationships and
borderline abuse but also a
fundamentally flawed, antiquated approach to educating our future generations.
The United States faces an educational epidemic. Our country has seen a massive decrease in reliance
on manufacturing
in the last three decades replaced by an ever increasing reliance on knowledge based services. Gone
are the days when
a high school diploma and a family member in a union meant stable incomes and traceable futures.
Over the coming
years a high school diploma will open only one third of the job market doors as advanced education
becomes more
desirable and in many cases required. According to the American Community Survey in 2008, a high

Causes Of Self Determination In Africa
3.4 SELF DETERMINATION IN AFRICA
This section seeks to determine the factors responsible for the origins of self determination accounts in
Africa. Indeed, many of the concepts examined above focussed specifically on Europe. The extent to
which the conclusions derived from the European context are applicable to the study of self
determination in Africa needs, therefore, to be further investigated. The following paragraphs present
the factors generally deemed to have been responsible for the rise of nationalism in Africa, a process
that led to the continent s eventual self determination. It reviews the legacies of Western colonization
and briefly discusses the impact of the African American struggle for racial equality, and highlighting
the roles played by Western educated elites in the march towards national self determination.
The study of nationalism in Africa was prompted by the emergence of anti colonialism (xxx, xxx).
Indeed, various factors have been put forward to explain the emergence of nationalism in Africa. The
boundaries drawn by the colonial powers not only indicated their respective areas of sovereignty but
also delimited the territory within which economic and social interchange would take place (xxx,
xxx). The colonial state was modeled on the modem European state which, as we saw in the earlier
sections, had slowly crystallized in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Indeed, the modern state
was to be Europe s most important and enduring legacy to

The Nazi Regime Of Adolf Hitler At Auschwitz Birkenau...
1.1 million. That is the number of people exterminated by the Nazi regime of Adolph Hitler at
Auschwitz Birkenau death camp between 1940 45. (Auschwitz Birkenau museum online) The raw
number itself absolutely staggering, too large for any human being to wrap their minds around. It is a
large enough number to inspire skepticism, disbelief, and outrage. To this day, decades after the fact,
there are still those who deny that any of it ever happened because the numbers are just too big. It is
better to think of this tragedy in more personal terms: as in 1.1 million families physically ripped
apart, 1.1 million dreams snuffed out, and untold numbers of survivors left scared forever. Human
faces need to be attached to the raw numbers, or else the numbers become a point of data, something
which can be spun to serve up moral or political advantage in today s society. We must remember
what happened in Auschwitz Birkenau, and the other Nazi concentration camps. All of humanity must
remember or we are surely doomed to one day repeat this dark chapter in our history. The history of

The Newly Developed Multinational Personnel Selection System
Question 1: What strengths and what shortcomings do you see in the newly developed multinational
personnel selection system? The company recognizes that there are problems in the existing personnel
selections, so they delegated the committee to address the problem. The new selection shows promise
as it improves the the old selection process. Some of the strengths include: 6 eye method : This 6 eye
method is the newly developed process where three people will be analyzing the qualifications and
suitability of the applicants. Compared with the old assessment conducted by external consulting
firms, this ensure reliability and credibility as the firm can find candidates that they are actually
looking for. This preliminary selection allows the recruiters to focus more on the knowledge, skills,
abilities, and others (KSAOs) of the applicants. As people have different judgments and opinions, this
provides a just screening of the candidates without any biases or prejudices involved. Although time
consuming and costly, this process ensures that all potential and promising candidates will have higher
chance of being selected. Phone interviews: This method has been proven to be very cooperative and
beneficial to many recruiters. Since this is considered as the first direct contact with the applicant
without incurring any travel expenses. In addition, the phone call can encourage the applicant to listen
to a question and respond it in their respective time and manner.

The Mistreatment Of Left-Handeded People
When you hear the word sinistra , what word does it sound close to? It sounds closely to the word
sinister and with that you think sinistra means dark or evil. However, sinistra s meaning has no thing
to do with darkness or evil; it is Latin for left or left handed. With this misunderstanding of the word
sinistra and other reasons, left handed people faced years of social and religious oppression. Hello, I m
Josh Haxton a lefty and I have always been curious about the history of left handers. Through my
research, I was able to end by curiosity. Today I m going to inform you of the history of left
handedness and famous left handed people in history.
Left Handedness is defined as having the left hand more dominant or effective than the right. However
the dominant use of the left hand was not acceptable for many centuries. In the article Right, Left,
Right, Wrong! , Luke Mastin describes that from the 13th century till the 20th century, left handed
faced inhumane treatment. The beginning of this maltreatment started in the 13th century when the
Catholic Church rose to power. During this time, books and paintings began to damage left handed
people s reputation. In the book The Puzzle of Left Handedness Rik Smits states that one of things that
tarnished their reputation, was European art depicting the Devil and his accomplices as left handed. As
a result, left handers soon became seen as people in league with the Devil. As centuries passed the
tension between right handers and left handers stayed the same until the 15th century and 16th
century. During this period, the Inquisition, a period of suppression against those that believed

and Ge Geo did a research on Consumers Food Choices with Voluntary Access to Genetic Information
one of the things they discorvered is that despite recognition of the importance of information to
consumers choice of products, whether and to what extent individual consumers will seek product
information and the effect of this search behavior on product choices are not features that are well
understood and there are relatively few studies of this issue (Hu,Veeman,Adamowiz and Gao 586).
They did a computer based survey that was a component of a larger study of Canadian consumers
altitudes and purchasing intentions for Genetically Modified pre packaged sliced bread. A total of 445
respondents, drawn from a representatives panel of adult Canadians maintained by a major marketing

Paleolithic Woman Analysis
Nisa is very useful since she has more personal insight and experience on how the paleolithic women
used to live. Evidence is that her family were hunter gatherers and when she left from the bush she
started to learn what other people were like since she was only used to staying and waiting for her
father to bring food. And she realized that people in the wider world are stingy.
In her culture it is tradition for a wife and husband to have sex. Nisa believed she was expected to
have sex with Tashay but later was surprised that he didn t ask her. It is shown that the San people are
very acceptable of people having multiple lovers. Nisa had around 4 husbands as well as many lovers.
These beliefs compared to a contemporary society are not as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

And then transitioned to the Neolithic with the sculpture of the women and the physical remains of the
Otzi caveman. The sculpture showed how they expressed and recorded their ways through art and Otzi
showed how important personal items were.
People today can look at the cave art or even the sculptures and see how they lived and interpreted
things. And they can appreciate the creations that were left. As well as the evidence left helps scholars
interpret what they were and then explain to today s world about what happened and how people lived
a million years ago. I relate to the account by Nisa because I am a female and some of the beliefs she
had in the San society are the same beliefs we have in today s world.
Since historians are lacking lots of evidence it makes them have to look into it more. But sometimes
they can be wrong which makes these researches uncertain. I think it s good because others can
speculate as well and have their own opinion about the evidence. And they can share

Hunt Descriptive Writing
Waking up before the rising sun on the morning of the hunt left me feeling groggy with my eyes slow
to open and close when blinking. Being extra quiet to not wake up my mother was a main challenge,
trying to tippy toe around the cabin and dodging the creaky spots in the floor. Prior to eating breakfast,
I began getting dressed. Due to the fact that I was in northern Minnesota, the weather was bone
chilling and the wind would seep right through your layers onto your unexpecting skin. Once I had put
on my long johns, sweatpants, and long sleeve shirt with a tee shirt on top I began to make my
breakfast. I had decided to have scrambled eggs that were cooked to perfection with the yolk golden
mixed in with the pure snow white egg white and flakes of pepper sprinkled throughout and toast with
butter melted onto the crunchy outside making it soft with homemade strawberry jam spread thick on
top. After I had finished my meal I continued getting ready. In doing so I put on the remainder of my
clothes, my sweatshirt and hunting pants came next followed by my wool socks and winter hunting
boots. Next I checked to make sure my backpack was ready and had all the essentials in it in case
something were to happen. Lastly I grabbed my already loaded sleek black shotgun and put on my
heaving winter coat, hats and gloves. Now I was ready to begin my hunt. Starting out, I was walking
slowly down the freshly snow covered dirt lane in front of my cabin. As I was walking I could hear the

  • 2. Institutional Environment as a Determinant of Chinese... Institutional Environment as a Determinant of Chinese Private Firm Export Behaviors:Does productivity counter the effect of institutional environment? We introduce institutional environment as a measure of the degree to which policies and institutes in one region differ from those in another region in china, where market are distorted across space and region[1]. We employ a modified heterogeneous firm model developed by Mayer and Melitz et al(2011)[12] to examine whether such institutional environment differences affect the firms export behavior. Employing data for china firm level exports in 29 province for which measures of institutional environment can be constructed, we find that better institutional environment enhances firm s export behavior. This results holds for the low level of financial constrains firms, but are reversed by the con export effect of productivity in the aggregate firms and the high level of financial constraints firms. Productivity is found to exert a con export effect that completely offsets the trade enhancing effects of institutional environment. I. Introduction Despite a voluminous literature on the impact of firm productivity on export behavior, the effects that institutional environment differences among regions may have on firm s export behavior and the extent to which productivity may counter these effects have received little attention. • 3. Sight And Survival Of Sight Sight, for many people, is the one sense they feel would be the most difficult to live without. We rely on sight to read, find our way around, cook our meals, do our jobs, and consume our entertainment. For many animals, their sense of sight is of vital importance for their survival. For example, hawks and eagles rely on their incredible vision to spot prey from the sky. Large predatory cats, such as lions and jaguars, will use their improved night vision to hunt unsuspecting prey in the dark. The loss of sight means almost certain death for a large amount of animals, as sight is mainly used for awareness of surroundings, avoiding predators, and hunting prey. However, this is not to say that some creatures do not rely on sight to survive; many animals, such as shrimp and fish in low or zero light environments have not evolved to have a sense of vision, but instead rely on other senses to understand their surroundings, find prey, or avoid predators. Then again, sight is so important for survival on Earth that it has independently evolved across multiple species1; this is known as convergent evolution. As Darwin puts it, the eye, such a perfect organ, being formed by natural selection seems ...absurd in the highest degree ,1 but true nonetheless. Sight is one of the greatest and most complex marvels produced by natural selection. Essay on Simon vs. Roger in Lord of the Flies In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, Simon represents the innate morality of humans, acting as a Christ like figure, while Roger embodies the all present cruelty and inherent sadism of individuals. Dietary nitrate has been shown to improve the mitochondrial functioning as it affects proteins involved in uncoupling contributing to an increase performance in exercise. The pathway begins through consumption of dietary nitrates that are converted to nitrites by bacteria in the oral cavity. The reduction of nitrates to nitrites may affect hemoglobin. Excess nitrites added to deoxygenated hemoglobin will oxidize to form methemoglobin and nitric oxide (Gladwin Kim Shapiro, 2008). This formation can hinder oxygen transport and is the common cause for concern in nitrite toxicity. Formation of nitric oxide allows for its use and reuse in cellular activities and may carry out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The body must go through chemical processes for healthy cellular function and homeostasis. Human beings not only consume dietary nitrates but, the body also synthesizes nitrates endogenously. This arises from the oxidation of nitrogen oxide and its end products. The synthesis of nitrates to nitrites occurs endogenously and exogenously in the body. Consumption of inorganic nitrates and nitrites will undergo reductive processes for the body s use and elimination. Nitrates and Nitrites both contain nitrogen in its chemical structure. Nitrogen, in of itself, is often conserved to be reused by the body s cells. Inorganic nitrates and nitrates that are consumed must be equally eliminated. The metabolism of nitrates and nitrites ultimately result in its elimination through salivary excretion or urination. Ingestion of inorganic nitrates will first undergo reductive activity in the oral cavity through the bacteria present on the tongue. The metabolism continues until nitrites are converted to nitric oxide where it enters the circulatory system and distributed to different target tissues. The concentration of nitrites in the salivary glands account for 25% of total dietary intake of nitrates (Gehle, 2007). The remaining concentration of nitrites are distributed in circulation and eventually eliminated through the urine. Each route of elimination helps to rid the body of potentially toxic ... Given these on track rates and consistency among the rates, the cohort graduation rate will be assessed for numbers of students who graduate, are accepted to post secondary education, those who enroll and over time persist toward completion of a college degree. Data will be collected from historic data that is available to the school in regard to grades, attendance and overall GPA throughout semesters and over time. Behaviorists argue that people are not born with a violent disposition; rather they learn to think and act violently as a result of their everyday experiences (Bandura, 1977). Albert Bandura (1977) states behavior is learned from the environment through the process of observational learning. This popular behavioral notion is known as the social learning theory. Bandura believes that humans are active information processors and think about the relationship between their behavior and its consequences. Studies of family life, for example, show that aggressive children often model the violent behaviors of their parents. In 1961, Bandura conducted the famous bobo doll experiment in which children observed the people around them behaving in various ways. The experiment involved exposing children to two different adult models; an aggressive model and a non aggressive one. After observing the adults and their aggressive or non aggressive behavior, the children were later allowed to play in a room with the Bobo doll by themselves. • 20. Napoleon s Reign Over Italy Italy, as it is known today, has been in existence for less than one hundred fifty years. For several centuries, Italy had been made up of separate states often ruled by foreign powers. In 1796, Napoleon Bonaparte invaded and conquered the Italian peninsula. After falling under French rule, the peninsula was divided into three parts: several northern states, which were annexed to France, the Kingdom of Italy, of which Napoleon declared himself king in 1805, and the Kingdom of Naples in the south. Napoleon and the French brought new ideas about society and governing with them. They also brought the concepts of freedom and nationalism with them, which might have sparked Italy s later attempts to achieve unity. Napoleon s reign over Italy crumbled with his defeat in 1814. Shortly after, parts of Italy were distributed amongst other European countries, particularly Austria, and returned to former rulers by the Congress of Vienna in 1815. Many people were unhappy with the actions of the Congress and secret societies started to grow to oppose these rulers and promote the idea of a united Italy. One of the secret societies set up in opposition to foreign rulers was called the Carbonari. This nationalistic, revolutionary group started in Naples and spread northward. This began America s active participation in what is currently known as international, or intercountry, adoption. Every year for the last six decades, Americans have adopted thousands of foreign born children. It is the process by which the prospective adoptive parent adopts a child from a country other than the parent s own, through permanent legal means, and brings that child to the parent s country of residence to live with the parent permanently. A hurricane can produce destructive storm surge, which is water that is pushed toward the shore by the force of the winds swirling around the storm. • 30. The Consumption Of Two Goods consumption of two goods In economics a consumer is described as a rational individual who wishes to maximise their utility by making rational choices. These choices appear when a consumer is exposed to two goods, where a given amount of one good substitutes the use of another one. To calculate how a consumer can achieve the optimal allocation of the two goods, an indifference curve is used and the analysis of an indifference curve can be combined with the budget constraint. For the consumer, some combinations are better than others for maximising utility, and the best combination is the optimal combination. Consumers have preferences about the goods they consume. If the consumer added another book to his bundle, he would have to sacrifice some water, in order to hold utility constant. One can calculate how many glasses of water the consumer is willing to sacrifice for another book without changing his total utility through the marginal rate of substitution. According to (BEGG et al., Economics, 11th edition, McGraw Hill Education, 2014 ), the marginal rate of substitution between two goods measures the quantity of a good the consumer must sacrifice to increase the quantity of the other good by one unit without changing total utility. For example, if the consumer has 10 books and no water and he reads 9 of these books, he won t enjoy the last one as much. Furthermore, by drinking no water the consumer will be very dehydrated and won t enjoy reading at all, and so the utility of this particular bundle would be extremely low. On the flip side, if the consumer drank a large amount of water and read few books. As a result, he would be reluctant to sacrifice his books for even more water. By and large, a consumer s preferences exhibit the diminishing marginal rate of substitution, which means that when a consumer owns lot of one good, they will give up a comparatively large amount of it to get another good of which they have little. The Current State Of Our Post Secondary Education System The current state of our post secondary education system should not be judged simply by the growing debt accumulated by students and parents. Many of us are aware that the current outstanding debt of college loans is roughly a trillion dollars with growing delinquency rates. The issues with the post secondary education system are often limited to single item discussions such as textbook prices or rising tuition costs. These issues when looked at unilaterally do not give insight into the entire picture and often cause topical tunnel vision. The problems of higher education are multifaceted and born from the linkage between accreditation boards, educational institutions, textbook publishers, and federal aid. When focusing on these connections we find not only parasitic relationships and borderline abuse but also a fundamentally flawed, antiquated approach to educating our future generations. The United States faces an educational epidemic. Our country has seen a massive decrease in reliance on manufacturing in the last three decades replaced by an ever increasing reliance on knowledge based services. Gone are the days when a high school diploma and a family member in a union meant stable incomes and traceable futures. Over the coming years a high school diploma will open only one third of the job market doors as advanced education becomes more desirable and in many cases required. Indeed, many of the concepts examined above focussed specifically on Europe. The extent to which the conclusions derived from the European context are applicable to the study of self determination in Africa needs, therefore, to be further investigated. The following paragraphs present the factors generally deemed to have been responsible for the rise of nationalism in Africa, a process that led to the continent s eventual self determination. It reviews the legacies of Western colonization and briefly discusses the impact of the African American struggle for racial equality, and highlighting the roles played by Western educated elites in the march towards national self determination. The study of nationalism in Africa was prompted by the emergence of anti colonialism (xxx, xxx). Indeed, various factors have been put forward to explain the emergence of nationalism in Africa. The boundaries drawn by the colonial powers not only indicated their respective areas of sovereignty but also delimited the territory within which economic and social interchange would take place (xxx, xxx). With this misunderstanding of the word sinistra and other reasons, left handed people faced years of social and religious oppression. Hello, I m Josh Haxton a lefty and I have always been curious about the history of left handers. Through my research, I was able to end by curiosity. Today I m going to inform you of the history of left handedness and famous left handed people in history. Left Handedness is defined as having the left hand more dominant or effective than the right. However the dominant use of the left hand was not acceptable for many centuries. In the article Right, Left, Right, Wrong! , Luke Mastin describes that from the 13th century till the 20th century, left handed faced inhumane treatment. The beginning of this maltreatment started in the 13th century when the Catholic Church rose to power. During this time, books and paintings began to damage left handed people s reputation. In the book The Puzzle of Left Handedness Rik Smits states that one of things that tarnished their reputation, was European art depicting the Devil and his accomplices as left handed. As a result, left handers soon became seen as people in league with the Devil.
