A Research Study On Ethics
Ethics
1. It is the ethics involved in this situation that causes PGD to be a socio scientific issue. Generally,
embryos that are affected with the disease that is being tested for are discarded. There is usually at
least one embryo affected with the disease that is being tested for. However embryos that are not
implanted can be stored for up to ten years. In some cases there will be more than one healthy embryo.
As people do not usually choose to implant two, the patient has to make a decision as to what embryo
they will choose to implant. The other is likely to be frozen for storage. There is never a 100%
guarantee that the embryo will implant, or that the results are 100% accurate. The issues involved are
that the embryos may be perceived to be people, or the beginning of an alive baby. Therefore,
depending on perception some people will disagree with PGD because they might perceive discarding
the embryo s to be like terminating or killing a baby. (Refer to opinions and perspectives).
Furthermore, another potential opinion regarding ethics is the issue of designer babies. Although sex
selection in New Zealand is illegal and PGD/PGS is purely for the testing of genetic disorders, some
perceive it as the next step towards creating perfect designer babies. Designer babies are genetically
engineered children. Currently the term is generally used to describe a baby whose genetic make up
has been selected in order to remove a particular defect, or to ensure that a

Access Control Models
ACCESS CONTROL MODELS
An access control model is a framework that dictates how subjects access objects. There are three
main types of access control model mandatory access control, discretionary access control and role
based access control.
Discretionary (DAC) The creator of a file is the owner and can grant ownership to others. Access
control is at the discretion of the owner. Most common implementation is through access control lists.
Discretionary access control is required for the Orange Book C Level.
Mandatory (MAC) Much more structured. Is based on security labels and classifications. Access
decisions are based on clearance level of the data and clearance level of the user, and, classification of
the object. Rules are made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Network architecture Logical controls can provide segregation and protection of an environment. I/P
address ranges, subnets, routing between networks, etc.
Network Access Logical network access controls routers, switches, NICs, bridges.
Encryption and Protocols
Control Zone Technical and physical control. Surrounds and protects network devices that emit
electrical signals. TEMPEST related.
Access Control Types
Each control method can also perform different functionality. The functionality types are
Preventative
Detective
Corrective
Deterrent
Recovery
Compensating
For example
Preventative Administrative
Policies and procedures, effective hiring practices, background checks, data classification, security

Preventative Physical
Biometrics, badges, swipe cards, guards, dogs, motion detectors, fences, mantraps, locks and alarms.
Preventative Technical
Passwords, biometrics, smart cards, encryption, call back systems, database views, antivirus software,
ACLs, firewalls, IDS
Auditing
Accountability Auditing capabilities ensure that users are held accountable for their actions, verify that
policies are enforced, deter improper actions and are an investigative tool.

The Lady with the Dog by Anton Chekhov and Marriages and...
In an interview given to Joe David Bellamy, Joyce Carol Oates explained how she was putting
together a group of short stories called Marriages and Infidelities, which include stories that are re
imaginings of famous stories. While the stories in her collection were meant to be autonomous, they
were also testaments of her love and devotion to other writers who helped her become the writer she is
today. She showed her marriage to Anton Chekhov by reworking his short story The Lady with the
Dog, almost a century after the original was published. The infidelities consist of transgressions in the
form, characterisation and setting, and the shift of the emphasis from male to female characters.
Nevertheless, comparing both stories shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reimagining Chekhov s story through her own eyes, Oates has allowed her Anna room for a
development that Chekhov s Anna does not have, therefore making her the more psychologically
complex of the two women. Prone to making mistakes, Chekhov s and Oates characters are sometimes
vicious and not particularly heroic; but it is their humanity which makes readers identify with them as
they mature and change over time. Chekhov admirably positions the audience to recognise how the
carefully chosen settings accompany the characters emotional evolution, together with the
development of their affair throughout the story. At Yalta, a vacation spot of alleged immorality,
Gurov and Anna are allowed the freedom to act without the supervision of their controlling spouses.
Moreover, the resort is densely packed with romantic elements the scent, the grasshoppers, the heat
and the sea which could be argued to conspire for the affair to begin. Gurov is at first portrayed as
insensitive to Anna s consternation, but as he gradually grows more affectionate to her readers are
shown the beginning of his dawning. The hustle and bustle of Moscow does not erase Anna from his
mind, and Gurov struggles to understand his own emotions against a backdrop of debauchery. In the
unnamed town of S , readers discover the recurring motif of greyness which exemplifies the feeling of
entrapment shared by the characters. The colour is to be found

Margaret Wise Brown Goodnight Moon Analysis
I chose the book Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown because this was one of my favorite
books as a child. This book was very important to me as a child for multiple reasons. One being that
my mom and/or dad would read it to me every night before I went to sleep. I remember this clearly
because it would help me fall asleep at night. I think this book was very appealing to me because after
my mom or dad finished reading it to me, we would go around the room and say goodnight to
everything. This made me laugh every time! I remember reading this book and when it got to the part
that says Goodnight mush, I would have to ask my parents what that meant. I never failed to ask them
because they would always respond with, Bethany, you asked me

Jonathan Edward s Sermon, Sinners In The Hand Of An Angry God
Jonathan Edward s Sermon, Sinners in the Hand of an Angry God , proposes many questions, such as
how Edward s pictures human nature. Edward preached and pictured human nature with many moving
and powerful ways. In his sermon, Jonathan lectures about how human nature is naturally dreadful.
Claiming how everybody in the world sins, it s the corrupt sinners who don t pray and worship to God
who will be emitted to Hell. Jonathan Edwards preaches how the people of our planet must repent our
sins, praying to God and asking for forgiveness. If people do not repent their sins or ask for
forgiveness, they will be sent to Hell, suffering forever. Edward uses imagery and describes how Hell
is resembled. He describes it as a fiery pit and how people will absolutely despair of ever having ...

The necessary way he cited as being necessary for salvation was reforming your life after a terrible sin
and keeping up a form of religion in your families and closets, and in the house of God. Edward s
explained how adjusting your life to being reputable and religious will change the way God conceives
you. A person must repent their sins, pray, and go to mass to be forgiven. Finally, in your later years
God will authorize you to be put in Heaven. Jonathan Edward s presented the way he thought a
corrupt sinner could be allowed into heaven, and he also mentions how one could be put into Hell.
Jonathan mentioned how he was with miserable creatures now tormented in hell, who their feel and
bear the fierceness of God s wrath, Edward s preached how many people are over the pit of Hell on a
rotten covering, meaning many men and women are at the edge of Hell and that they must improve
their religious life to be sent to heaven. Jonathan Edwards desire to awaken and save as many souls as
possible motivated him to become a pastor portraying to us what human nature is and how one must

Gps, Gps And Remote Sensing Technologies
4.0 Spatial Technologies
The GIS, GPS and Remote Sensing technologies have evolved over the last two decades, as the three
most important spatial database technologies for the developmental planning and decision support.
Today, these spatial technologies play a revolutionary role in disaster monitoring, assessment and
management. Remote sensing is used for real time and accurate data capture. GIS is used as the most
effective and efficient tool for storing, integrating, manipulating and presenting spatial and non spatial
information. GPS is used for obtaining precise coordinates of important geographical features,
emergency mapping and establishing connectivity in the neighborhood.
4.1 Geographic Information System (GIS)
Geographic Information System (GIS) is a spatial information system for creating, organizing,
integrating, querying, analyzing and displaying spatial data pertaining to real world. The integration of
spatial data and attribute data and data from various sources is one of the strongest features of GIS.
The spatial data in the form of maps, satellite images, aerial photographs, GPS observations and
adhered to a common spatial framework are integrated in GIS environment for what if analysis and
spatial decision support.
Different real world spatial features are represented as point, line and polygon data types in GIS and
associated attribute data categorized as nominal, ordinal, interval and ration type. Nominal data are
described by names like parks,

Meriam People Case Summary
(a) The relationship between the parties in the case
In 1982, five Murray Islanders begun action against the government of Queensland pursuing
assertions of rights to the use and enjoyment of traditional land that had been uninterruptedly occupied
by the Meriam people before and since the takeover by the defendant government.
(b) The primary issue determined by the case
The primary issue that the High Court was asked to consider within Mabo was whether the Meriam
people essentially had native rights in the Murray Islands, and if the people did in fact have these pre
existing rights, whether the Australian law should guard these rights and interests and thus allow the
Meriam people legal recognition to the land in question. (c) A summary of the reasons of Brennan J.

also discussed the relevance of the rejection of universal and absolute ownership. He discussed the
idea that the Crown had absolute ownership of, legal possession of an exclusive power to confer title
to, all land in the Murray Islands. So to was the idea considered that the doctrine of tenure was
complete, such that every segment of land which was acquired by England was held mediately or
immediately of the King who is the Lord Paramount . Brennan J. concluded that the doctrine of tenure
applies to every Crown grant of an interest in land, but not to rights and interests which do not owe
their existence to a Crown grant . Thus, it was accepted by the majority that the Crown in fact
acquired a radical title as opposed to an absolute title upon the acquirement of any land, and that this
radical title would be subject to native title rights in the occurrence that the appropriate native title
rights had not been reasonably or formerly

Flq Essay
In October 1970, Canada faced a pressing terrorist attack in Montreal, Quebec by a group known as
the Front de Liberation du Quebec, or the FLQ for short. The group committed multiple attacks
starting in 1963 that slowly escalated until the October Crisis, where they kidnapped two government
officials and proceeded to murder one of them. The Canadian government responded harshly and
rapidly. The prime minister of Canada, Pierre Trudeau, issued the War Measures Act which along with
various things allowed the police and military full reign to arrest people and hold them with no
explanation. The Canadian population was highly supportive of the government s action believing that
this extreme state repression would bring a finish to the October ... Show more content on

Some of these demands were a reading of the manifesto on public radio, a half million dollar ransom,
and the release of several convicted or detained FLQ members . The government refused to release the
FLQ members, but did read the manifesto on public radio and select newspapers printed the
manifesto. However, this was not enough for the FLQ and they kidnapped and shortly killed the
provincial cabinet minister Pierre LaPorte. James Cross remained kidnapped until December 1970,
when the police found his holding cell.
The government responded aggressively to the kidnapping of both James Cross and Pierre LaPorte.
After LaPorte s body was found in a car by the Montreal airport, the government requested assistance
from the Canadian Armed Forces . The federal government proclaimed the existence of a state of
apprehended insurrection under the War Measures Act . Under these emergency regulations, the FLQ
was outlawed and membership became a criminal act . The liberties of citizens were also suspended,
and arrests and detentions were authorized without a charge . During the War Measures Act, the
military was patrolling the streets and police forces were given additional freedom, while the liberties
of citizens were taken away. One way that the police force was given further freedom is they had the
freedom to search and detain anyone they wanted without stating a reason. Through this

honor to deliver the T.C. Abbey Oration, and I promise I do not take it lightly. I have carefully chosen

Compare And Contrast Beowulf And The Iliad
Beowulf and The Iliad have plenty of differences but also have plenty of similarities within their
stories, structure, and writing styles. For instance they are both poems but The Iliad is an ancient poem
while Beowulf is an epic poem. They are both poems but they are two different types of poems, this is
just one of the many similarities and differences in these two stories. One of the similarities within this
story is that both heros from the stories take a prize from their enemies when they win their battles.
Beowulf and Achilles both take body parts from their enemies and in Achilles case the whole body of
his enemy as their prizes. As lines 357 and 358 in Beowulf state, From the rafters where Beowulf had
hung it, was the monster s Arm, claw and shoulder and all (Allen 53). Beowulf also takes the head of
his enemy later in the book when he kills his enemies mother. This point is shown also later in the
story, lines 568 through 573 says, The monsters hall was full of Rich treasures, but all that Beowulf
took Was Grendel s head and the hilt of the giants Jeweled sword; the rest of that ring marked Blade
had dissolved in Grendel s steaming Blood, boiling even after his death (Allen 60). This taking of the
body as a prize is also evident in The Iliad when Achilles takes Hector s body and ties it to his chariot
and drags his dead body through town. Lines 246 through 253 in The Iliad state, Indeed, he had in
mind for Hector s body outrage and shame. Behind both feet he pierced the tendons, heel to ankle.
Rawhide cords he drew through both and lashed them to his chariot, letting the man s head trail.
Stepping aboard, bearing the great trophy of the arms, he shook the reins, and whipped the team ahead
into a willing run ( The Iliad 86). The taking of the body of their enemies is one of the similarities
between these two war heroes and in these two stories. One of the major differences in these two
stories is the reason that the heroes are fighting in the first place. In Beowulf the hero is fighting to
help people and to have a great and grand legacy behind his name opposed to in The Iliad the hero is
fighting for revenge and is fighting through pure anger. Lines 109 through

Urinary Incontinence Assessment
Understanding Types of Urinary Incontinence, Assessments and Appropriate Intervention
Urinary incontinence (UI) can be defined as, involuntary leakage of urine to a degree that it is
troubling to a person (Mauk, p. 545). Not only it is a common problem for the elderly, which has a
tremendous impact on their quality of life, it is also a common health problems that affects more than
17 millions of Americans (Testa, p. 82). Even though urinary incontinence is a common problem for
the senior it is not a normal part of the aging process, however vast majority of people still does not
seek help due to the fact that they think it is a normal part of aging and the embarrassment related to
the social stigma associated with the disease. As a healthcare ... Show more content on

It is essential for the nurse to have a proper and detailed assessment to determine the most likely cause
or type of UI. One of the most basic and least invasive assessment a nurse can do is to obtain a
complete history. A complete history must asked questions such as onset and duration, aggravating
factors, characteristics, medical history (medical conditions and medications), associated symptoms,
attempted treatments and severity (Testa, p. 83). There are also different tools that a nurse can use
such as the Urogenital Inventory/ Incontinence Impact Questionnaire and Bladder Diary. Using
questionnaires and bladder diary can be used in order to facilitate data gathering for people who have
difficulty discussing incontinence face to face. Thorough history can provide insight and help identify
potentially reversible causative factors and contributing risk factors related to UI (Mauk, p. 553). It is
also important to have a detailed physical assessment, which focused on genitourinary system,
abdominal, rectal and neurologic system, in order to determine the pathophysiology of voiding
problems. If the nurse suspects any cognitive impairment from the initial assessment Mini Mental
State Examination, Mini Cog, and/or Confusion Assessment Method can be used to determine the
severity of the cognitive impairment. It also alerts the healthcare provider for the patient increased
risked for constant incontinence and it also determines the appropriate interventions. Having a
comprehensive assessment will help the healthcare provider to diagnose and establish proper

The Problem Of Computer Technology
Technology as we know it is rapidly evolving at an increasing rate. I can sit down on any given
morning and effortlessly create a movie on my laptop. But, it hasn t always been candy canes and
rainbows. Imagine producing a five minute video on a device that has less memory or storage than a
toaster. Aside from having unbelievable difficulty in attempting such a task, the sheer processing
power and storage required, would inherently render the device obsolete. The floppy disk, a square
shaped storage device, commonly used in the 1980 90 s, supported one megabyte, which at the time
could slide in a few word documents or a primitive game of Tetris. However, in terms of movie
editing, the floppy disk would ve been a nightmare. In arguing the obsolescence of floppy disks three
reasons that come to mind are: their storage capacities are tiny, every major consumer based
computing company has ceased production of floppies, and there are no floppy drives supported on
current platforms. Despite what some people may think, floppy disks are obsolete for the same reason
that people today use the cloud , and that is convenience.
One reason why floppy disks are obsolete is because their capacities are simply too small to fulfill the
basic needs of most individuals these days. Speaking at the International Quantum Technologies
conference, Vladimir Shalaev of Purdue University revealed that the average amount of data
consumed in 1986 per person was a measly five hundred megabytes compared

margaret sanger Essay
Nearly 70 years ago, one woman pioneered one of the most radical and transforming political
movements of the century. Through the life that she led and the lessons she taught us, many know her
as the one girl revolution . Though Margaret Sanger s revolution may be even more controversial now
than during her 50 year career of national and international battles, her opinions can teach us many
lessons. Due to her strong influence in history, our society has increased health awareness for women,
made sexual protection a choice for all people, and also introduced family modification as a choice for
mankind.
Having gone through the hardships that she did, Margaret Sanger developed her own theories and
beliefs about health in women. Through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to the articles she composed, Margaret Sanger decided to make sexual protection an option
for all people. Previously, contraceptives and spermicides were only distributed to those who had
information on the matter and access to them (Margaret 1). Sanger was past 80 when she saw the first
marketing of a contraceptive pill, which she had helped develop, although legal change was slow. It
took until 1965, a year before her death, for the Supreme Court to approve the use of contraception,
but Sanger had accomplished a goal (Margaret 1). Now, contraceptives were available to all women,
in all walks of life, regardless of their financial situations. In her mind, poor mental development was
largely the result of poverty, overpopulation and the lack of attention to children. This was definitely
one of the reasons why Sanger desired to make protection available to lower class citizens, along with
the wealthy.
Although she had met her goal of legalizing birth control, Margaret Sanger still desired to assist
women who were already pregnant but didn t wish to keep the child. After returning from a national
tour in 1916, Sanger opened the nation s first birth control clinic in Brownsville, Brooklyn (Katz 1).
This, however, was a minor advancement considering that the clinic was raided in its first nine days of
operation and she was taken to prison. The

What business is Billabong in and how does it differentiate itself?
Billabong operates within the highly competitive surfwear industry comprised of the Big Three
including Quicksilver, Rip Curl and Billabong itself, along with a pool of smaller firms and specialist
manufacturers. It employs a number of strategies in order to differentiate itself from these rivals and
maintain its authentic association with surfing culture. These strategies include pursuing a niche
market of 10 24 year old brand obsessed and anti mainstream consumers, multi branding, high
involvement in multiple promotions to convey that Billabong is genuine and linked directly with the
sport and also the strength of the brand itself. These strategies enable Billabong to ... Show more

Billabong has further strengthened the notion of being rooted in surfing culture through the creation of
the Billabong Odyssey concept, where the brand sends surfers to remote locations simply to catch
waves that have never before been attempted. Additionally, through having their products featured in
an internationally acclaimed surfing film, the brand not only resonated with surfers around the world,
but also encouraged growth in the women s market.
Another method of differentiation used by Billabong is its strategy of multi branding. Billabong
pursues a niche market of 10 to 24 year olds who are brand orientated and are willing to spend
accordingly to ensure that they are anti mainstream. The implication of pursuing such a segment is
that Billabong must ensure that its brand does not become too large and mass market, as this would
result in a loss in credibility from its consumer base who are seeking individualism and independence.
Consequently, unlike its major rivals, Billabong has implemented a strategy of multi branding instead
of attempting to push the brand into other product areas. This multi branding strategy has led to the
acquisition of Element in 2001, a US skate wear manufacturer, and also Von Zipper which is known
for its sunglasses and snow goggles. In contrast Rip Curl has focused on branching out into other
product areas under the one

Difference Between Miscarriage And Ectopic Pregnancy
Have you ever had an experience that changed your life in a blink of an eye? An experience so intense
that it keeps replaying in your head? I m nineteen years old and in these days it s not shocking to hear
young girls getting pregnant, but no matter what age, it s always hard to hear about any type of
miscarriage. An ectopic pregnancy was what I had, and I m still recovering from it. 1 in 4 girls have an
ectopic pregnancy, which is also called a tubal pregnancy. It is not considered a miscarriage, but it is
considered to be in the same category as one. The difference between a miscarriage and an ectopic
pregnancy is that with a miscarriage, the fetus is still growing but along the way something happens.
An ectopic pregnancy (tubal pregnancy) is when the fetus is misplaced in a fallopian tube and the tube
ruptures which can cause you to bleed out to death. This is very difficult to find since an ultrasound

While I was in the recovery room, my surgeon came in and told my boyfriend and I that the fetus had
grown to the point where my tube ripped so they had to remove my left fallopian tube completely. My
first thought was my baby and why this had to happen to me. Everything happened so fast that I didn t
know how to process all of it. It was hard to know that I was pregnant one moment and then the next
having that amazing feeling getting ripped away from me. A couple hours later I was finally able to go
home and rest. As days go on I think about all the things that happened to me in that short period of
time. I didn t know what an ectopic pregnancy was until that day. I had an experience that changed my
life completely in just in a blink of an eye. Even though 19 is still a young age, it should never happen
to anyone. I stop to think every day about that day and what had happened to me was a tragedy. Ever
since then, I ve seen how much I have changed and because of that I cherish life

User 1: My grandfather suffered from sharp muscle pains more than an ordinary human being. He
always talked highly of his muscle spasms pains that often left him in his repulsive zone of fright and
terror. Once day, out of love and care, I checked on his medicines and did a bit research to eradicate
his agony. I researched Soma on the net and leaped forward to buy soma online at

condition was way better than before. His pain had now completely disappeared.
User2: My uncle often complained me about his muscle pains, for I was pursuing medical profession.
He was talked about the pain killer his doctor had put him on and spoke ill of the pain killer effect. I
went through the prescription and hours later, I landed soma pills packet on his hand and intimated a
few precautionary measures of usage. He stayed put on the medication that I consulted him. A month
passed and I eagerly waited for its results. To my surprise, his health had restored entirely.

Hertzsprung Russell Diagram
The Hertzsprung Russell diagram was developed in 1911 by Danish astronomer Ejnar Hertzsprung as
a ways of representing the properties of stars. The method was improved in 1913 by American
astronomer Henry Norris Russell. Today the diagram is known as a Hertzsprung Russell diagram, or
simply an H R diagram. This diagram is very significant tool for studying the evolution of stars.
A H R diagram plots a star s luminosity against its temperature or color. The vertical axis is the stars
luminosity relative to the sun (1 L0 is the luminosity of our sun) and the horizontal axis plots the
temperature or color of a star. The highest value of temperature is shown on the left while the lowest is
on the right. Each star is plotted as a single point,

Explain The Main Features Of The Articles Of Confederation
This chapter covers many topics such as the Constitution, the Supreme Court, and the Declaration of
Independence. Before the Constitution of the United States, the Articles of Confederation serve as the
first plan of a national government for the thirteen American states. (pg.17) The Articles allowed the
states to retain most political power. (pg.17) Other features of the document were that it preserved
state autonomy, guaranteed equal representation for the states, and it granted the central government
only a few important powers . (pg.17 18) However, it provided no separate executive branch and no
national courts, and it made the amendment almost impossible . (pg.18) It never really occurred to me

Joshua Rothman begins his article, The Case For Not Being Born by telling the reader about an
antinatalist who goes by the name of David Benatar. In his opinion, he believes that life is atrocious
that human beings have to stop having children. Rothman continues his article stating that David
Benatar says that many parents go to their extent to make their children protected but the only way to
make them protected would have to be not bringing them into existence. In Benatar s book Better

of the fate we bring ourselves upon but as well because life revolves around affliction. Overall in his

Thrasymachus Plato Justice Quotes
For years, philosophers have tried to define justice. In Plato s The Republic, Plato discusses the
equality of the sexes, abolition of family, rule by philosophers, life and while doing so, attempts to
describe what justice is. In Book I, the search for the answer to what is just is set up through
discussion done mostly by Socrates, Cephalus, Polemarchus and Thrasymachus. Thrasymachus
contributes to this conversation by establishing what he thinks justice means, especially in regards to
government and law. Thrasymachus argues that justice is the advantage of the stronger (Plato 338c).
Through discussion with Socrates, who opposes this view, Thrasymachus offers his definition and
explanation of the argument. I believe that though Thrasymachus s ... Show more content on

Socrates maps out how ruling aims to benefit the ruled and not the ruler, thus meaning that
Thrasymachus s argument that justice is in the advantage of the ruler is false. Socrates demonstrates
this point by explaining how he sees every craft to as having a particular aim. To clarify, he gives the
example of a doctor being a person who cares for the sick over a money maker, and a pilot being a
ruler of sailors over just a sailor (Plato 341d). In even further detail, the art of medicine has been
developed because the body is defective, and it is an art that s purpose is to provide what is
advantageous to the body. Socrates says, medicine doesn t consider the advantage of medicine, but of
the body (Plato 342c). It follows that if ruling is a craft, it would aim to benefit those who are being
ruled and not the ruler. Socrates goes as far as to say that because the ruler rules for the ruled and not
for himself, there is no ruler who considers his advantage before those of the ruled and he will do
everything for the advantage of the ruled (Plato 342f). Looking at this refutation that sees ruling as a
craft, Thrasymachus s argument that justice is in the advantage of who rules is clearly

Mechanical Valve Induced Lung Injury
During mechanical ventilation, patients are at risk of injuries to their lungs caused by improper
settings on ventilators. Mechanical ventilator induced lung injury (VILI) can affect the lung in several
ways. Some of the ways the lung become affected is by excessive pressure, excessive volume, and not
enough volume. When the lungs are affected by excessive pressure its termed pulmonary barotrauma.
On the other hand, if the lungs receive too much volume it s called volutrauma. However, when the
lungs don t receive enough volume its termed atelectrauma. This paper describes how pulmonary
barotrauma, pulmonary volutrauma, and pulmonary atelectrauma affects the lungs during mechanical
ventilation and ways to prevent them from happening. The first ventilator induced lung injury that I
want to discuss is pulmonary barotrauma. Pulmonary barotrauma is a lung complication caused by too
much positive pressure forced into the lungs by a mechanical ventilator. Pulmonary barotrauma occurs
when the alveolar begins to rupture due to elevated transalveolar pressure. Transalveolar pressure is a
function of both the tidal volume and the overall compliance of the lungs. Researchers use plateau
pressures to get an estimation of transalveolar pressure. Plateau pressures can be used as a tool to help
measure for the risk of pulmonary barotrauma. Researchers have discovered that plateau pressures less
than 30 cmH2O have shown to reduce the cause of pulmonary barotrauma. Guy W. Soo wrote

put everyone through on some of the songs that were considered Classics. Mary could not believe that
a woman who was this old could have this great passion for life. This led her to draw close to Mrs.

Mrs. Robinson told Mary that she had watched the young man and seen that beyond Music they might

relationship work. She told Mary that based on her experience and time around the young man, it is

Persuasive Essay About Self Trust
Self doubt is a strong, yet underestimated, emotion. It can squeeze into one s brain, filling all cracks of
empty space like a balloon, pushing out confidence and adventure. Fear drives away the yearning to
take risks and leaves one with only the ability to ponder on what could have been. As a child, I
sometimes forgot that taking leaps of faith is important to maintain a joyous lifestyle. When around
new people I kept my mouth shut and refused to cause any trouble. My mom now claims that this was
a good thing, boasting about how I was an easy child. I d beg to differ. My childhood was marked by
the need to lay low, keeping my opinions to myself, staying quiet when others were around, and not
promoting antics or chaos. I was never outgoing unless I was comfortable enough to speak my mind. I
was as dormant as a doornail. My family may have been at the center of this; with my siblings being
five and eight years older than myself, I had a hard time connecting with them on an emotional or
social level. I was David in a house full of Goliaths. My sister graduated high school when I still
played with dolls; my brother got his license when I had yet to reach middle school. I felt like an
outcast in my family and that led me to stay as 3reserved as possible. This mistake led to the inability
of my awkward pre teen self to form new relationships with strangers. There was a point in my life
that changed my perception of my own personality. The summer after seventh grade I embarked

Inside houses a cosy kitchen, a scratched wooden table, paisley patterned lounge chairs and Donny
Rays bed, the centre of a simulated hospital room, with the few medical devices the Blacks could

Another setting quite effectively featured is St. Peter s hospital, housing battered Riker. Entering the
dim and gloomy cafeteria, contrasting the brightly lit, disinfected, starched white walls of the hospital
rooms and hallways, gives the viewer a peek inside Riker s world of pain, confusion and poorly
administered bandages.
The courtroom, where most of the action takes place, is the epitome of law and order. The squeaky
clean marble floors and polished wooden beams display the tradition of the courtroom and the
importance of all which takes place in this setting. Other settings also lend credit to the film, the
tackiness of Bruiser Stone s office, the peace and beauty represented at the jewellry store where Riker
is employed amidst visits to the hospital, and the dark and secretive cinema, where Baylor and Riker
share a tender moment. All settings are effectively and appropriately chosen and are very apt in
relevance to the storyline of the film.

characters realistically are the absolute essence of the production. The Rainmaker sports a

Materials and manipulatives are spread along the outside walls of the classroom and children are free

classrooms are made up of mixed grades and ages, something that is not typical of traditional

performance standards and teaching objectives. The classrooms at Head Start are a center based

Shaka s Legacy Of The Zulu Nation
Shaka kaSenzangakhona was born in 1787 to a Zulu chief, Senzangakhona, and an orphaned princess
from the small Elangeni clan, Nandi. A man born out of wedlock managed to turn a small insignificant
chiefdom who labelled themselves as people of the Heavens into a formidable force to be reckoned
with even till this day. The Zulu nation and its people owe lot to Shaka the Great, he built a nation
whose numbers were few than two thousands and who neither powerful they were mere sheep. With
the introduction of Shaka the Great, Dingiswayo vision of having a united nation of all Ngnui
speaking people was possible. However the growth of the Zulu nation has to be attributed to Shaka
military organisation that incorporated regiments from defeated tribes and in return those tribes
pledged their support and loyalty to his ever growing empire and did not suffer attacks provide they
paid homage. This system was used by the Roman conquerors, however with Shaka the Great the
notation of bloodshed and tyrant, dictator, despoiler, destroyer, murderer, savage, barbarian made
famous by Hollywood and early white settlers and European historians who had an ignorant view on
Africa and could not possibly believe that a black man could match up to leaders such as Alexander
the Great, Julius Caesar, Attila the Hun, Napoleon and could have a significant impact on our world
we live in today.

  • 2. A Research Study On Ethics Ethics 1. It is the ethics involved in this situation that causes PGD to be a socio scientific issue. Generally, embryos that are affected with the disease that is being tested for are discarded. There is usually at least one embryo affected with the disease that is being tested for. However embryos that are not implanted can be stored for up to ten years. In some cases there will be more than one healthy embryo. As people do not usually choose to implant two, the patient has to make a decision as to what embryo they will choose to implant. The other is likely to be frozen for storage. There is never a 100% guarantee that the embryo will implant, or that the results are 100% accurate. The issues involved are that the embryos may be perceived to be people, or the beginning of an alive baby. Therefore, depending on perception some people will disagree with PGD because they might perceive discarding the embryo s to be like terminating or killing a baby. (Refer to opinions and perspectives). Furthermore, another potential opinion regarding ethics is the issue of designer babies. Although sex selection in New Zealand is illegal and PGD/PGS is purely for the testing of genetic disorders, some perceive it as the next step towards creating perfect designer babies. Designer babies are genetically engineered children. Currently the term is generally used to describe a baby whose genetic make up has been selected in order to remove a particular defect, or to ensure that a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Lady with the Dog by Anton Chekhov and Marriages and... In an interview given to Joe David Bellamy, Joyce Carol Oates explained how she was putting together a group of short stories called Marriages and Infidelities, which include stories that are re imaginings of famous stories. While the stories in her collection were meant to be autonomous, they were also testaments of her love and devotion to other writers who helped her become the writer she is today. She showed her marriage to Anton Chekhov by reworking his short story The Lady with the Dog, almost a century after the original was published. The infidelities consist of transgressions in the form, characterisation and setting, and the shift of the emphasis from male to female characters. Nevertheless, comparing both stories shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In reimagining Chekhov s story through her own eyes, Oates has allowed her Anna room for a development that Chekhov s Anna does not have, therefore making her the more psychologically complex of the two women. Prone to making mistakes, Chekhov s and Oates characters are sometimes vicious and not particularly heroic; but it is their humanity which makes readers identify with them as they mature and change over time. Chekhov admirably positions the audience to recognise how the carefully chosen settings accompany the characters emotional evolution, together with the development of their affair throughout the story. At Yalta, a vacation spot of alleged immorality, Gurov and Anna are allowed the freedom to act without the supervision of their controlling spouses. Moreover, the resort is densely packed with romantic elements the scent, the grasshoppers, the heat and the sea which could be argued to conspire for the affair to begin. Gurov is at first portrayed as insensitive to Anna s consternation, but as he gradually grows more affectionate to her readers are shown the beginning of his dawning. The hustle and bustle of Moscow does not erase Anna from his mind, and Gurov struggles to understand his own emotions against a backdrop of debauchery. In the unnamed town of S , readers discover the recurring motif of greyness which exemplifies the feeling of entrapment shared by the characters. The colour is to be found ... • 6. Margaret Wise Brown Goodnight Moon Analysis I chose the book Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown because this was one of my favorite books as a child. This book was very important to me as a child for multiple reasons. One being that my mom and/or dad would read it to me every night before I went to sleep. I remember this clearly because it would help me fall asleep at night. I think this book was very appealing to me because after my mom or dad finished reading it to me, we would go around the room and say goodnight to everything. This made me laugh every time! I remember reading this book and when it got to the part that says Goodnight mush, I would have to ask my parents what that meant. I never failed to ask them because they would always respond with, Bethany, you asked me ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(b) The primary issue determined by the case The primary issue that the High Court was asked to consider within Mabo was whether the Meriam people essentially had native rights in the Murray Islands, and if the people did in fact have these pre existing rights, whether the Australian law should guard these rights and interests and thus allow the Meriam people legal recognition to the land in question. Brennan J. concluded that the doctrine of tenure applies to every Crown grant of an interest in land, but not to rights and interests which do not owe their existence to a Crown grant . Thus, it was accepted by the majority that the Crown in fact acquired a radical title as opposed to an absolute title upon the acquirement of any land, and that this radical title would be subject to native title rights in the occurrence that the appropriate native title rights had not been reasonably or formerly ... The Canadian government responded harshly and rapidly. • 16. Compare And Contrast Beowulf And The Iliad Beowulf and The Iliad have plenty of differences but also have plenty of similarities within their stories, structure, and writing styles. For instance they are both poems but The Iliad is an ancient poem while Beowulf is an epic poem. They are both poems but they are two different types of poems, this is just one of the many similarities and differences in these two stories. One of the similarities within this story is that both heros from the stories take a prize from their enemies when they win their battles. Beowulf and Achilles both take body parts from their enemies and in Achilles case the whole body of his enemy as their prizes. As lines 357 and 358 in Beowulf state, From the rafters where Beowulf had hung it, was the monster s Arm, claw and shoulder and all (Allen 53). Beowulf also takes the head of his enemy later in the book when he kills his enemies mother. This point is shown also later in the story, lines 568 through 573 says, The monsters hall was full of Rich treasures, but all that Beowulf took Was Grendel s head and the hilt of the giants Jeweled sword; the rest of that ring marked Blade had dissolved in Grendel s steaming Blood, boiling even after his death (Allen 60). This taking of the body as a prize is also evident in The Iliad when Achilles takes Hector s body and ties it to his chariot and drags his dead body through town. Lines 246 through 253 in The Iliad state, Indeed, he had in mind for Hector s body outrage and shame. Behind both feet he pierced the tendons, heel to ankle. Rawhide cords he drew through both and lashed them to his chariot, letting the man s head trail. Stepping aboard, bearing the great trophy of the arms, he shook the reins, and whipped the team ahead into a willing run ( The Iliad 86). The taking of the body of their enemies is one of the similarities between these two war heroes and in these two stories. One of the major differences in these two stories is the reason that the heroes are fighting in the first place. In Beowulf the hero is fighting to help people and to have a great and grand legacy behind his name opposed to in The Iliad the hero is fighting for revenge and is fighting through pure anger. Urinary Incontinence Assessment Understanding Types of Urinary Incontinence, Assessments and Appropriate Intervention Urinary incontinence (UI) can be defined as, involuntary leakage of urine to a degree that it is troubling to a person (Mauk, p. 545). Not only it is a common problem for the elderly, which has a tremendous impact on their quality of life, it is also a common health problems that affects more than 17 millions of Americans (Testa, p. 82). Even though urinary incontinence is a common problem for the senior it is not a normal part of the aging process, however vast majority of people still does not seek help due to the fact that they think it is a normal part of aging and the embarrassment related to the social stigma associated with the disease. As a healthcare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is essential for the nurse to have a proper and detailed assessment to determine the most likely cause or type of UI. One of the most basic and least invasive assessment a nurse can do is to obtain a complete history. A complete history must asked questions such as onset and duration, aggravating factors, characteristics, medical history (medical conditions and medications), associated symptoms, attempted treatments and severity (Testa, p. 83). There are also different tools that a nurse can use such as the Urogenital Inventory/ Incontinence Impact Questionnaire and Bladder Diary. Using questionnaires and bladder diary can be used in order to facilitate data gathering for people who have difficulty discussing incontinence face to face. Thorough history can provide insight and help identify potentially reversible causative factors and contributing risk factors related to UI (Mauk, p. 553). It is also important to have a detailed physical assessment, which focused on genitourinary system, abdominal, rectal and neurologic system, in order to determine the pathophysiology of voiding problems. If the nurse suspects any cognitive impairment from the initial assessment Mini Mental State Examination, Mini Cog, and/or Confusion Assessment Method can be used to determine the severity of the cognitive impairment. • 20. The Problem Of Computer Technology Technology as we know it is rapidly evolving at an increasing rate. I can sit down on any given morning and effortlessly create a movie on my laptop. But, it hasn t always been candy canes and rainbows. Imagine producing a five minute video on a device that has less memory or storage than a toaster. Aside from having unbelievable difficulty in attempting such a task, the sheer processing power and storage required, would inherently render the device obsolete. The floppy disk, a square shaped storage device, commonly used in the 1980 90 s, supported one megabyte, which at the time could slide in a few word documents or a primitive game of Tetris. However, in terms of movie editing, the floppy disk would ve been a nightmare. In arguing the obsolescence of floppy disks three reasons that come to mind are: their storage capacities are tiny, every major consumer based computing company has ceased production of floppies, and there are no floppy drives supported on current platforms. Despite what some people may think, floppy disks are obsolete for the same reason that people today use the cloud , and that is convenience. One reason why floppy disks are obsolete is because their capacities are simply too small to fulfill the basic needs of most individuals these days. Speaking at the International Quantum Technologies conference, Vladimir Shalaev of Purdue University revealed that the average amount of data consumed in 1986 per person was a measly five hundred megabytes compared ... Through the life that she led and the lessons she taught us, many know her as the one girl revolution . Though Margaret Sanger s revolution may be even more controversial now than during her 50 year career of national and international battles, her opinions can teach us many lessons. Due to her strong influence in history, our society has increased health awareness for women, made sexual protection a choice for all people, and also introduced family modification as a choice for mankind. Having gone through the hardships that she did, Margaret Sanger developed her own theories and beliefs about health in women. Through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to the articles she composed, Margaret Sanger decided to make sexual protection an option for all people. Previously, contraceptives and spermicides were only distributed to those who had information on the matter and access to them (Margaret 1). Sanger was past 80 when she saw the first marketing of a contraceptive pill, which she had helped develop, although legal change was slow. It took until 1965, a year before her death, for the Supreme Court to approve the use of contraception, but Sanger had accomplished a goal (Margaret 1). Now, contraceptives were available to all women, in all walks of life, regardless of their financial situations. In her mind, poor mental development was largely the result of poverty, overpopulation and the lack of attention to children. This was definitely one of the reasons why Sanger desired to make protection available to lower class citizens, along with the wealthy. Although she had met her goal of legalizing birth control, Margaret Sanger still desired to assist women who were already pregnant but didn t wish to keep the child. After returning from a national tour in 1916, Sanger opened the nation s first birth control clinic in Brownsville, Brooklyn (Katz 1). The implication of pursuing such a segment is that Billabong must ensure that its brand does not become too large and mass market, as this would result in a loss in credibility from its consumer base who are seeking individualism and independence. In Book I, the search for the answer to what is just is set up through discussion done mostly by Socrates, Cephalus, Polemarchus and Thrasymachus. Thrasymachus contributes to this conversation by establishing what he thinks justice means, especially in regards to government and law. Socrates maps out how ruling aims to benefit the ruled and not the ruler, thus meaning that Thrasymachus s argument that justice is in the advantage of the ruler is false. Socrates demonstrates this point by explaining how he sees every craft to as having a particular aim. To clarify, he gives the example of a doctor being a person who cares for the sick over a money maker, and a pilot being a ruler of sailors over just a sailor (Plato 341d). In even further detail, the art of medicine has been developed because the body is defective, and it is an art that s purpose is to provide what is advantageous to the body. Socrates says, medicine doesn t consider the advantage of medicine, but of the body (Plato 342c). It follows that if ruling is a craft, it would aim to benefit those who are being ruled and not the ruler. Socrates goes as far as to say that because the ruler rules for the ruled and not for himself, there is no ruler who considers his advantage before those of the ruled and he will do everything for the advantage of the ruled (Plato 342f). Mechanical ventilator induced lung injury (VILI) can affect the lung in several ways. Some of the ways the lung become affected is by excessive pressure, excessive volume, and not enough volume. When the lungs are affected by excessive pressure its termed pulmonary barotrauma. On the other hand, if the lungs receive too much volume it s called volutrauma. However, when the lungs don t receive enough volume its termed atelectrauma. This paper describes how pulmonary barotrauma, pulmonary volutrauma, and pulmonary atelectrauma affects the lungs during mechanical ventilation and ways to prevent them from happening. The first ventilator induced lung injury that I want to discuss is pulmonary barotrauma. Pulmonary barotrauma is a lung complication caused by too much positive pressure forced into the lungs by a mechanical ventilator. Pulmonary barotrauma occurs when the alveolar begins to rupture due to elevated transalveolar pressure. Transalveolar pressure is a function of both the tidal volume and the overall compliance of the lungs. Researchers use plateau pressures to get an estimation of transalveolar pressure. Plateau pressures can be used as a tool to help measure for the risk of pulmonary barotrauma. Researchers have discovered that plateau pressures less than 30 cmH2O have shown to reduce the cause of pulmonary barotrauma. Guy W. Soo wrote ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
