A Deeper Look Into Child Welfare Services
A Deeper Look into Child Welfare Services
Demitria Coleman
Liberty University
In the United States, there are programs designed to protect children. There are foster care, group
homes, and other services for children safety. The Child Protective Services in Alabama has the sole
purpose of helping children in cases of neglect and abuse (Child Protective Services). These services
include foster care programs where children who are at risk of harm from birth family, or who suffers
from mental, emotional, or physical issues. These services provide care to all children who meet the
state qualifications and removed from their current home (Introduction of Foster Care). The foster care
system is where children who can no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the media portraying foster care as a negative solution to a very serious issue, does not work well
with getting children out of their current situations. No one really exhibits how the children feel in
foster care in the media, but studies show, children in the foster care system may not view their
situation as negative. These children may have a great experience in foster care, even though there are
a few flawed areas in the system. Their perception of foster care may be very different from the
workers of child protection services and the media s perception (Chapman, Wall, Barth, 2004;
Ellingsen, Stephens, Storksen, 2012; Fernandez, 2007; Jones Kruk, 2005). The children s perception
of foster care is the most important perception dince they are the ones who has to live in the system.
The Foster Care System
The foster care system in the United States is viewed negatively and the media portrays it as such. The
public only knows what the media tells them about the foster care system. The stereotypical views are
mostly what is thought the foster care system consisted of, not what goes on behind the scenes (Leber
LeCroy, 2012). The only people who would have a good insight on what goes on behind the scenes are
the people that are involved, which are the caregivers, the social workers, the biological families, and
the children. Their placements, relationships with their caregivers, and stability all had factors of how
the foster care system was

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)
1.0 DEFINITION Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most commonly diagnosed entrapment
neuropathy (or neurological disorder) of the upper limb (Middleton Anakwe, 2014). 2.0 INCIDENCE
AND PREVALENCE CTS Affects millions of people around the world with an incidence rate of 276
per 100,000 people per year (Alfonso, Jann, Massa, Torreggiani, 2010). It has been reported that CTS
is more prevalent in woman and the working population (9.2% in women; 6% in men; 4% in the
general population; 10% of the working population) (Alfonso et al., 2010; Meems, Truijens, Spek,
Visser, Pop, 2015). Women are three times more likely to suffer from CTS than men, particularly in

There is a strong link between jobs that involve overuse or heavy activities involving the hand and
aggravation of symptoms (Middleton Anakwe, 2014). This is reflected in the high claims of worker s

stage of chronic compression leads to demyelination, fibrosis, and nerve fibre degeneration;
particularly muscle deterioration of the thenar eminence (Gruber, Gruber, Djurdjevic, Schullian,

Diction, Images and Irony in Hughes s The Negro Speaks of Rivers
The Negro Speaks of Rivers is Langston Hughes most anthologized poem. It is one of Hughes most
punctual poems, and its subject built up the accentuation of a lot of his consequent poetry. The Negro
Speaks of Rivers fixates on African and negritude themes. Hughes composition dependably indicates
recognizable proof with Africa, and his later poetry on African subjects and African themes
demonstrates his developing refinement and learning of the history and issues of Africa. Alongside its
accentuation on African themes, this poem so piercingly and dramatically communicates being a black
American that it guarantees Hughes proceeding with fame. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The muddy Mississippi influences Hughes to consider the parts that rivers have played in human
history. The initial three lines present the subject of the poem. The essential image of water
emblematically speaks to the history of humanity, recognizing the way that rivers are more old in the
history of the earth: I ve known rivers; I ve known rivers ancient as the world and older than the flow
of human blood in human veins (Hughes, Line 1 2). The following line associates the poet with the
river and recognizes the impact of waterways on the history of the African American: My soul has
grown deep like the rivers (Line, 3). This line is rehashed toward the finish of the poem, restoring the
association between the human embodiment and the river and in addition the river s part in African

Personal Strengths Of Personal Inventory
OT 381
Personal Inventory
In general, what do you consider some of your personal strengths? Of what interpersonal
skills/abilities are you proud? A personal strength of mine is collaborating well with others. Also,
when engaging with another individual, I am able to have patience as well as be an attentive listener.
These qualities are important in the field of OT because teamwork is the best approach. Finding the
answers to the problems is not going to be independently based all the time. Colleagues help each
other out by combining unique ideas in order to come up with the best possible solution. While
working with the patient, it is important to have the skill of being a good listener because hearing why
they are there and what they are struggling with is necessary for assessing the situation in order to help
him/her in the best way. Also, a patient is not going to be completely cured after one session of OT, so
possessing patience throughout the entire process is a key factor that all OT s should work towards.
What areas do you feel you need to address or need to improve in order to become more adept in the
area of professionalism and being the best occupational therapy student? One area that I strive to make
a strength in the future is communication skills. Possessing

Disadvantages Of Flexible Work
According to Hernreich, 2008 flextime or flexible can made our work force more efficient and more
focused while they are working. It is a step backward to go back to rock solid hours. As long as an
employee is getting the job done, they should be treated like an adult. Research show that many adult
workers like to work schedules that flexible other than work that just follow the schedules and cannot
be tolerance. The flexible work is such as flextime, telework or compressed word weeks are example
of increasing variation in the timing and duration of work hours and work location. According to Ellen

The flexibility in amount of work is relates to amount of lower workload or hours which also known
as part time work. This also be the cause of factor why employee currently interested to the job

and reduced load, or customized work arrangements where an individual s workload is reduced in
return for less pay or hours. Not just that, the flexibility in amount of work also can reduce the stress
on what are the employee has been responsible for it. Normally, an employee will be responsible for
two or three things on the organisation so if the work is been sharing together and not all of the work
is put on the head it can reduce the stress on the employee and next it will increase the employee

Animal Culture And Its Effects On Human Culture
Animal culture is studied through comparative studies between populations and locations, field
observations, and laboratory experiments. It is important to be critical in evaluating the results of these
studies because behaviors in artificial situations or captivity will be different than in the wild. Animals
are likely to act differently when they are not in their natural environment. Behaviors will vary and the
long lasting effects of the behaviors may not be visible (Lalaland, 2003). Evidence of non human
culture has been found in animals such as songbirds, whales, dolphins, primates, and ants. Non human
behaviors are seen as encompassing culture if they meet certain conditions: the behavior must be
practiced by multiple members of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another important aspect about the cultural evidence is it was first observed in 1952 and eight
generations later, in 2008, was still being observed in the wild monkeys. The monkeys on this island
develop behavioral differences as a result of social learning rather than genetic variation (Matsuzawa,
2008: R588). The next study regarding primates was seen in 2010 while observing wild chimpanzees
in Uganda, with cultural differences between two populations in different areas. The chimpanzees
displayed different ways of utilizing tools around them to retrieve honey within the fallen logs around
them. The Kibale Forest chimps used sticks while the Budongo Forest chimps utilized leaves sponges
that were made from chewed leaves. To study the differences, researchers provided the monkeys with
a task to retrieve honey out of an apparatus. Each group resorted to behaviors that they had been
familiar with in the beginning, those from Kibale using sticks and Budongo resorting to leave sponges
(Cell Press, 2010). Klause Zuberhuler (Cell Press, 2010) from the University of St. Andrews in
Scotland noted that the reason for the differences in tools was that chimpanzees resorted to preexisting
cultural knowledge in trying to solve the novel task and that culture helped them in dealing with this
novel problem. The behaviors were specific to each population that they developed through social

Giant Butterflies Symbolism
Vladimir Kush on his beautiful oil canvas has depicted a three masted sailing ship heading out to the
open sea on a windy day. The ship is very different than your everyday sailing ship what strike out
most is the giant butterflies that form the sails on the ship; it s as if these butterflies are catching the
heavy wind that is blowing out into the sea. The conditions on the sea look fairly calm but the sea
looks wavy and moving clouds show us the strong wind that is carrying the ship out. People on the
shore are seen holding windsock as an indication to show the strength of the wind. People are also
seen wind surfing across the seashore and there too butterfly wings have taken over the place of
traditional sails.
The beautiful painting is a visual treat to anyone laying eyes on it. The blue sky the wavy water the
sailboats all are ironic to any coastal shore. The moon on the distance is an indication that it s early
dusk or dawn. The sea looks windswept but calm and clear rather than stormy and angry. The ship is
setting out on a long journey but the butterflies are an indication to a positive spin on departure so it s
probably intended for people who have had or will have firsthand experience with departure and those
emotions.
Winged ship is portrayed to bring in a calming and cheering effect. And Kush has used his
imagination to depict the painting; he has used pure imagination in creating winged ship. And a lot is
dependent on the kind of condition that he was born in,

The Diary Of Alne Frank And The Diary Of Anne Frank
The Outsiders is a novel about a fourteen year gang member Ponyboy, who lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma,
and his struggles as a greaser and his relationship with his brother. The Diary Of Anne Frank play is a
fictional adaptation about the life of Anne Frank in the Secret Annex during World War II. Both texts
illustrate the theme that people become more mature after experiencing and going through a difficult
time.
The Diary of Anne Frank shows the changes in behavior and maturity for the main character, Anne, as
she stays in the annex for two years. In Act I, Anne was more energetic and playful as a thirteen year
old. Act I Scene 3 highlights Anne s playful and clumsy behavior by talking about her pranks. On page
552, it states Anne: Who cares if it s dignified? I don t want to be dignified. Mrs. Frank: [To Anne]
You complain that I don t treat you like a grownup. But when I do, you resent it (Goodrich and
Hackett 552). This shows that Anne is not ready to be treated like an adult. She dislikes when her
mother expects her to be mature and she has a teenage mentality. She does not care that her behavior
is not dignified and mature. She wants to have fun and frolic, much like what a child would want.
Therefore, in the beginning of Act I, Anne acts childish and immature. However, in Scene 4 of Act II,
it mentions how Anne has matured. She is no longer a child, but a woman with courage to meet
whatever lies ahead (634). This quote shows that change that Anne has gone through as a

Taking The A Train Lab Report

1. Introduction: This lab focused on showing the reaction that takes place between zinc and iodine
using only deionized water instead of acetic acid (or vinegar) as we did in the previous lab by adding
acetic acid to zinc iodide. The purpose of this lab was to see how water created the reaction and
another compound or precipitate.
Focus Question: Zn(OH)2 was the product when zinc and iodine were reacted without the presence of
acetic acid in the water.

expected positive results occur from the identification experiments. We made sure to measure

The chemical equation of the formation of zinc hydroxide after zinc and iodine react:
2Zn+I2+2H2O2Zn(OH)2+I2 2. When zinc hydroxide and acetic acid are reacted, the zinc hydroxide
dissolves and a clear liquid is formed which contains zinc acetate and water. Because zinc hydroxide
is amphoteric, it can either give or receive a proton. When zinc hydroxide reacts with acetic acid, the
reaction yields zinc acetate and water. The reaction is as follows:
Zn(OH)2 + 2CH3COOHZn(CH3COO) 2 + 2H2O 3. What is a side reaction?
A side reaction is an unwanted chemical reaction that diminishes the yield of the desired product. 4.
Acetic acid was used in the synthesis of zinc iodide because an addition of a weak acid prevents the
formation of Zn(OH)2 that occurs when zinc and iodine react with deionized water. The formation of
the precipitate inhibits the production of the product ZnI2 and may make it seem as if the basic law of
conservation of mass was not obeyed. Since acetic acid and water are both volatile, they can both be
easily removed from the solution by heating which would possibly leave behind more ZnI2 . When the
acid is not added, it is interesting to observe the Zn(OH)2 precipitate that is formed.
A New Inquiry:
What if we had heated this precipitate too like in the last experiment to remove all H2O from it?
Would the heating

He has an incredibly close, personal touch, yet, at the same time is naturally more quiet and
withdrawing.
Analysis of Leadership Dynamics Pastor X s leadership theory is clearly a bottom up approach; he
avoids wrangling the conversation unfairly to his perspective, instead, he identifies himself as a
component of the process, not the process itself. This instills in the members a trust in him that is
remarkably deep. He also tends to seek out members for services that they provide (i.e. medical) in
order that he can relate to them on a personal while simultaneously on a spiritual level.
As I pointed out above, he empowers his members by giving them opportunities and allowing them to
experiment, with the promise that he will be there to provide support if problems explode. However,
this model allows problems to be resolved quickly and quietly and not spiral rapidly out of control. He
averts empowering the members in the way of resources what I am alluding to is that he is willing to
acquire resources when needed, yet avoids seeking them out himself. He feels that it is best for
individual leaders of departments to determine these decisions.
His relationship with the church is uncommonly positive, in spite of a few differences. For example,
during one nominating committee it was determined by the Filipino delegation, which is the vast
majority of the church, that the number Caucasians and African Americans who held leadership
positions was rife and

Similarities Between Their Eyes Were Watching God And...
The Hurricane and flood in the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
illuminates the similarity between the novel and the natural disaster that occurred in south Florida in
1992. In the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, the protagonist Janie marries and remarries three
times in hope of finding the right man who can help her find her voice. As can be seen, Hurricane
Andrew and the hurricane in the novel are similar in that they both correlate with one another. Janie
walks through a hurricane that symbolizes of all the troubles she faced in life which is similar to
Hurricane Andrew and the hardships it caused for many people living in south Florida at the time. The
hurricane being a metaphor for her other struggles, helps us get a clear understanding of the hardships
she faced in life. Once the storm ends, all these troubles Janie had to face in life come to an end as
well because now she gets to live a new life back in Eatonville without any of these marriages or
anything else that caused her troubles in life previously. The claims made by Steinberg help analyze
the similarities between Janie and Hurricane Andrew which gives us a clear understanding of how
Hurricane Andrew is a representation of Janie s hardships in life.
In 1992, Hurricane Andrew hit south Florida destructing thousands upon thousands of homes, killing
people, leaving south Florida completely destroyed. The aftermath of Hurricane Andrew took roughly
two weeks until people started

Informative Speech On Vaping
Imagine you are laying in a hospital bed. You wake up, the first thing you see is your doctor and you
hear him say, I m sorry, you have lung cancer. This is a situation that far too many people have had to
go through; especially those who smoke. According to the World Health Organization, tobacco kills
around 6 million people a year. This is alarming and certainly unacceptable, especially when there is
an effective, safer alternative. This alternative is called vaping .
Most people are very skeptical about the term. It is very easy to make assumptions about things that
you are not knowledgeable about. Also, when it comes to such a broad and controversial term, it is
even more so tempting to make these assumptions. Today I am here to bring you information. I will
inform you about what vaping really is, how it works, and some interesting statistics as well.
The basic definition of vaping is to inhale and exhale the vapor produced by an electronic cigarette or
similar device (Dictionary). If you have never heard of the term or have simply not researched it, you

Hippocrates And The Modern Western Europe Essay
In the medieval western Europe times medical knowledge was ascribe to faith and religion. A
physician was not a medical practitioner that was highly respected in this particular time era. Contrary,
to the knowledge that some physician might have accumulated, some disease could not be cure by the
practitioner; therefore, leaving the patients having to reach out to the hagiographical leader for advice

Strength Of The British Royal Navy Essay
The Strength of the British Royal Navy The strength of the British Royal Navy is that the Admiral
Nelson discovered a method to break the French Naval lines. Also, another advantage is that the
British was familiar with the Mediterranean Sea and they were able to locate possible destinations of
where the French could be located at. Another strength is their defensive strategy they used against the
French to break their lines. Lastly, their readiness throughout the battle was strong because the British
responded to the threat of the invasion immediately. The Strength of the French Navy The strength of

though they were unsuccessfully in previous attempts to locate them. Lastly, the British deception also
led to their victory because they deceived the French by having them think that they were not going to

element in their victory. For the French, they lost partly because of the explosion of their 120 gun

Social Networking and Narcissistic Behavior Essay
Social networking has risen in popularity throughout the last twenty years and in effect narcissistic
behavior has increased within society(particularly America s society) since the 1980 s(Jayson 1).
Studies show that the greater an individual is inclined to narcissistic behavior; there is a resulting
increase in their online social networking activity(Mehdizadeh 357). Social networking sites or SNSs
are defined as: A web based services that allow individuals to (1) construct a public or semi public

Federal Deposit Insurance System
Many nations have implemented deposit insurance for the protection of the depositors from losses that
result from the inability of a bank to meet its debts. As an element of safety net in the banking system,
deposit insurance is meant to increase financial stability. A Deposit Insurance system (DIS) main
objective is to make sure that that firms and households do not loose savings as well as deposits they
hold in banks in case of bank insolvency (Fdic.gov, 2014). It creates some confidence within the
financial system and promotes favorable services by banks. Therefore, DIS is not meant just for the
protection of depositors in a single bank but also ensure overall financial stability. Borrowed money is

In the 1930s, there were major troubles in financial markets in the US and the 1929 crash led to the
closure of 900 banks and contributed to economic depression. Depositors lost confidence in the
banking system and in 1934, deposit insurance coverage was established (Fdic.gov, 1998). There was
increase lending during the 1933 1983 periods and due to increased nontraditional risks in banks in the
1960s, another bank crisis emerged. Due to high interest rates and inflation, there were post World
War II bank failures and the FDIC had to meet depositors claims due to bank failures. In 1988, there
were 200 insured banks that failed hence the FDIC lost money too but in the early 1990s, insurance

include raising deposit insurance to $250,000 per depositor while banks would be required to meet
premium payments in advance (Fdic.gov, 2014). Large and riskier banks would also pay higher
premiums. The 2008 financial crisis battered the system as bank failures increased

Driving While Driving And Driving
Driving and Distraction In an age dominated by technology, an individual s cell phone is a very
important device for the function of day to day tasks. Whether driving to the grocery store, driving to
work, or driving to a friends house, chances are you have used your cell phone at least once while
operating a vehicle, but is this dangerous? Simultaneously driving and the use of a cell phone is
deemed illegal in many states under the presumption that it is a distraction to driving. This legislation
is usually preconceived under the notion that the distraction comes from peripheral factors associated
with the use of a cell phone and not the conversation on the cell phone itself. Past research measured
individuals who were using a cell phone prior to an accident, but this questions validity. These
individuals whom used a cell phone before an accident could be prone to more risky behavior on the
road and not due to the use of the cell phone itself. Other research attempted to measure distraction
with phone conversations, but relied on arithmetic, reasoning, and mental tasks, all which are not of a
typical phone conversation. Research conducted in 2001 by Strayer and Johnston aimed to resolve
these issues by measuring the extent in which the use of cell phone by conversation interferes with
driving and the underlying factors for the interference. This research is of utmost importance because
individuals could not only be putting their self at risk when using a cellphone while

What Is The Importance Of Operations Management
OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
Introduction:
Detail of operations management

Explain why businesses give importance to the operation (1.1)
Operations management (OM) is that phase of an organization where inputs are put into operations to
acquire required output (services) without compromising on quality. In other words operations
management is also described as combining and transforming various resources in the operations sub
system into value added services in line with formulated policies of the organization. (Kumar and

Operations management is based on short term planning and objectives, utilizing resources of the

techniques are presented by using existing techniques such as Singular value decomposition, wavelet
difference reduction (WDR) and Adaptive wavelet difference reduction (ASWDR). The SVD has been
taken as a standard technique to hybrid with WDR and ASWDR. Firstly SVD is combined with WDR
(SVD WDR) and after that it is combined with its advance version that is ASWDR (SVD ASWDR) in
order to achieve better image quality and higher compression rate. These two techniques are
implemented or tested on several images and results are compared in terms of PSNR, MSE and CR.
IndexTerms Compression rate (CR), Peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR), Mean square error (MSE),
Joint photographic expert group (JPEG2000), Singular value decomposition (SVD), Wavelet
Difference Reduction (WDR).

The Very First Video Game
Tommy Heartquist/Cade Conner Think Fast
Introduction The very first Video Game was invented by Edward U. Condon in 1940, At first it was a
simple game called Nim . In nim players try to avoid picking up the last match. Thousands of people
played it, although the computer won at least 90% of the games. Around ten years later in 1950, a new
computer program was created by Claude Shannon for the game of chess. In autumn of 1972 the first
gaming console was released by Magnavox and they called it the Odyssey. Three years later, the next
big gaming console arrived when Sears sold the first Atari Pong. This was the beginning of a long
partnership between Atari and Sears. This relationship lasted multiple years, and Sears sold several
successful games. Multiple years later in 1985, Nintendo released the Nintendo Entertainment System.
This new gaming console dominated the Gaming Industry and grew Nintendo s Company. Nintendo
created several gaming console legends, such as the Game Boy, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advanced,
Nintendo Gamecube, Gameboy Advanced SD, and Nintendo DS, all of which made a huge impact on

Digital Convergence Impact On The Film Industry
Media changes drastically over short periods of time because of digital convergence. Just in the past
decades it has become much more advanced and useful for people all around the world. There has
been an extreme advance in media technology, especially that used in film industry. This includes the
creation of analog to digital converters, technology convergence, and the changes in the media
industry and audiences. In this article, I will analysis how digital convergence impact on the film
industry structure, forms of consumption with the innovation of revenue models and cultural
production.
Industry Structure
In the digital era of convergent media, the most obvious about the change of cinema is the storage
which rely on celluloid that you can touch in the past. Now, however, it is stored as electronic packets
of 1s and 0s which is virtual. The changes of the cinema is not only about the film storage, but also the
production, post production, exhibition and distribution which is the main part of the film industry
structure. In the era of celluloid, the four steps of movie is relatively independent and has its sequence.
In digital movie, whereas, the connection and integration among four parts of industry structure are
ever close.
Production Post production
Post production is overlapping with production. The digital non linear system replaced linear taped
based process reducing the cost of editing. The parallel process not only saves editing time but also

Silk Roads. This significant impact of Buddhism is evident in the culture, economy, and religions
attitudes of the people living along the Silk Roads. The spread of Buddhism along the trade routes had
a significant cultural impact on the Silk Roads. This cultural impact is evident in the infrastructure,
arts, and daily routines of the people residing along the Silk Routes. According to one source from ca.

Buddhism not only encouraged trade along the Silk Roads, but the monks also acted as mediators in

Such hospitality of Avalokitesvara shows how significant of a role Buddhism played to the traders in

The Theme Of Dreams In The Great Gatsby And Moulin Rouge
Within the films The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge the theme of dreams is consistently present. Baz
Lurhmann who directed both films used numerous filmic techniques to convey the influence of
dreams. A dream is an aspiration and fantasy that one deeply desires to attain. Dreams go hand in hand
with ambition and thus drive the characters actions. However, in my opinion, dreams may take on an
idealistic and delusional nature and thus act as unattainable and unrealistic entities. Thus this essay
will focus on the unrealistic nature of the characters ambitions and the consequent failures of their
dreams. For the purpose of this essay I will be discussing different scenes within the films and the

Negligence Cases And Its Effects On The Judicial System
Negligence cases and their analyses have dominated our judicial system from its very inception. This
can be attributed to the human need to find fault and administer blame for wrong doings and the mere
fact that committing negligence is so simple one may not even realize that it is being committed until
one is served with court documents. For example, pretend your home has a very steep step leading to
the front door. You are aware of this after all, you live there but you want to ensure the safety of all
visitors to your home. Suppose each day you place a sign by the driveway that states, Caution! Beware

Could the incident have been reasonably foreseen and could the presence of an employee have helped
mitigate damages?
On June 20, 1943, Anna C was chartered from its owner, Conners Marine Company, to the
Pennsylvania Railroad Company at a stated hire per diem. On January 4, 1944, around 2:15 PM, a
negligent accident occurred which resulted in the sinking of the Anna C and all of her cargo being
destroyed. The cargo aboard the Anna C flour was the property of the United States. At the time of
year the accident occurred, daylight hours were shorter than normal and the weather conditions were
not favorable (UNITED STATES et al. v. CARROLL TOWING CO., Inc., et al., 1947).
The negligence of the accident comes from a few different sources. Since the harbor conditions were
uneasy and busy, the owner of the barge should have had a captain on board at the very least during
daylight hours. The night before, the bargee left the Anna C at 5 PM and was still not present at the
time of the sinking at 2:15 PM the following day. During this 21 hour gap, no bargee was on board
when he should have been. Another negligent act was that the captain of the tug Carroll instructed the
deckhand and harbormaster to inspect the lines on the tiers holding the barges to the Public Pier and
Pier 52, including the Anna C. Since the harbormaster was employed by Grace Line, some fault lies
with that company as well. Grace Line s failure to add

Two Faced Characters: The Moonstone
Mystery is the key for interesting characters and therefore an interesting story. The Moonstone, a
novel written by Wilkie Collins, follows the mystery of an ancient Indian diamond, known as the
Moonstone. The Moonstone has made its way into the Verinder House on the night of Rachel Verinder
s eighteenth birthday, and the trouble starts from there. Rachel Verinder and Franklin Blake are two
characters who migrate between being seen as the roles of victims and villains, therefore building up
the mystery and suspense displayed throughout the work. Rachel Verinder is a very unique teenager.

Franklin Blake was a very confusing character for he had his French side, and his German side, and
his Italian side and so forth (Collins 47). His character could fluctuate from being a model of
determination and a spectacle of helplessness in a matter of seconds (Collins 47). He and Rachel were
in love, yet later in the novel they could not bear to look at one another, leaving the reader (and other
characters in the book) to infer that the Moonstone was behind their bickering. There were times when
Mr. Blake was innocent, and others when he appeared guilty. For example, Franklin Blake was
actually seen by Rachel, taking the Indian diamond out from her cabinet in the middle of the night.
You villain, I saw you take the Diamond with my own eyes! Rachel had yelled at Franklin later in the
story. But, the plot twist was that Mr. Blake could remember nothing of taking the diamond. With the
later help of Ezra Jennings, who cleared Franklin Blake of accusations by proving that Franklin took
the Diamond, in a state of trance, produced by opium which had been secretly administered to Blake
by Mr. Candy, an opinionated doctor whom simply wished to prove a point (Collins 354). But there
was still the mystery as to what happened after Franklin Blake took the Diamond up to his room. But

The Columbian Exchange Summary
Until the sixteenth century, the experts in that period of time believed that it was impossible to sail
west across from the Atlantic to Asia. By his adventure, Christopher Columbus, an Italian navigator,
proved that they were wrong. However, based on the theory that the earth was a sphere, he thought
that he could reach the East Indies by sailing west. He calculated the distance from Portugal to Asia
was shorter than to Congo. In fact, the real distance from Portugal to Japan was much further, over ten
thousand miles. With his erroneous estimate, he planned a scheme to prove he was right. After several

Otherwise, it brought dangerous diseases which killed a lot of the native Americans due to not having

it has changed both natural and human in the Americas. Being different from other European

these men were killing their families, taking their lands, and destroying their earth. The conquests
shaped the emerging system of land ownership. The hacienda system developed because
conquistadors fought seeking wealth and land grants. Castas, people of mixed blood, became the

The 1950s began a trend of parenting which resulted in what were called latchkey children. As many
fathers had been killed in World War II and many mothers needed to work, the oldest child of a family
was often drafted to take care of the household. (Hostutler) In the absence of their parents, latchkey
children often had responsibility forced upon them at a very young age. This early maturity in
adolescence resulted in the desire for independence and rejection of authority which is commonly
associated with teenagers. Along with not having a parent to take care of them, latchkey children did
not have a parent to teach them how to interact with the world. Because of this, teenagers largely
learned important moral lessons from their peers or from mass media, rather than from their parents.
As radio, the main form of media at the time, was slowly becoming more populated by smaller rock
bands, often with members not much older than latchkey children themselves, the morals of those
children become the morals of rock and roll, which focused and intensified the popularity of rock and

An unfortunate part of history and labor involves European, American, and African slave traders
engaging in the lucrative trade in humans. The movies, A Respectable Trade and Amistad show two
slightly different slants to the same evil side of the concept of slavery. They point to an all too

The lord s interference with the serf over marriage and reproduction to form a family was much less
than the owner s (master s) interference with the slave. Furthermore, serfs often had to pay taxes,
serve in the army, etc... whereas slaves were usually exempt from such things since they were
considered to be chattel.
An indentured servant was a person who borrowed money and thus usually voluntarily agreed to work
off the debt during a specific time period. While working off the debt they essentially became a
servant, to those from whom they had borrowed money, for a specific period of time. Although
contracts varied, sometimes they specified that the servants, when set free, were to be set free with
some money, or a plot of land, or even a spouse. In contrast, if slaves were set free they simply had to
hope for the generosity of their owners to prevail in any shape or form which it often did not.
Peons were another group of laborers. They were people that were either forced to work off debts or
they were people who were criminals. They did not have any prespecified length of time to work.
Instead they simply had to work until their debts had been paid off. (Encyclopedia Britannica)
Seeing what slavery is not, one must then ask, what is slavery? A Basic definition is one which states
that,
a slave was chattel an article of property that could be bought, punished, sold, loaned, used as

Pearl In The Scarlett Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Hester Prynne s daughter Pearl is one of the most complex characters observed in The Scarlet Letter.
The fact that such a small child can have such a huge impact on the adults in the story can be thought
of as ironic and thought provoking. Pearl goes against all of the odds that the community has set for
her. Everyone assumes that Pearl is a demon child because she was born as a result of the sin of lust,
and she does at times demonstrate signs of being peculiar. But Pearl, who was a dauntless child, after
frowning, stamping her foot, and shaking her little hand with a variety of threatening gestures,
suddenly made a rush at the knot of her enemies, and put them all to flight. (88). The reader is shocked

Pearl s characteristics cause her to become paranoid about her possibly having demon or witch like
traits passed to her from her sin. The child could not be made amenable to rules. (77). This is the first
time Pearl s oddities are introduced to the audience. Hawthorne is foreshadowing her up and coming
childhood filled with strange actions and keen observations. Even as an infant, Pearl seems to be
aware of her mother s sin. But that first object of which Pearl seemed to become aware was shall we
say it? the scarlet letter on Hester s bosom! (82). Since the scarlet letter is what she was first aware of,
it could be said that this is where Pearl and the scarlet letter became one . To the Puritans, the scarlet
letter is a peculiarity and so is Pearl, so some comparisons can be made between the two. Her
exposure to the letter is a stepping stone for the growing fixation that she has to it as she gets older.
Pearl s awareness of the letter helps the development of the plot and keeps Hester on her toes, because
she rarely allows her mother to forget about it. Still came the battery of flowers, almost invariably
hitting the mark, and covering her mother s breast... (83) I see you here. Look! Look... Hester looked,
by way of humoring the child; and she saw that, owing to the peculiar effect of this convex mirror, the
scarlet letter was represented in exaggerated and gigantic

Why Are Stereotypes Dangerous and What Can Be Done to...
Why Are Stereotypes Dangerous and What Can Be Done to Reduce Them? Very often, in our
everyday life, we tend to make certain generalizations about things and people around us. This is
because we are constantly exposed to heaps of information, and in order to cope with the complexity
of the world around us, we need to generalize and categorize.[1] Sometimes we do this on purpose,
with some intention. However, very often we do this subconsciously, unaware of what we are doing.
Many people generalize on others according to their clothes, profession, origin, way of speaking, and
many other, outer markers. This sort of thinking could be very dangerous, and it can lead us to
creating stereotypes. Stereotype is a term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To prove this to be true, some of my colleagues and me had some people from our environment
interviewed on this topic. It is interesting that most of them had similar answers, and almost everyone
said the English were reserved, snobbish, and even evil. Americans were fat and stupid, self centered.
Although none of them would admit to be stereotyping, they all somehow knew this was true. Many
of them, when asked if they would ever live in these countries responded negativelly, because the
people were bad. Thus they had some prejudices formed against these people, and did not want to do
anything to help them understand and appreciate the other culture. Discrimination When the
stereotypes we have formed last for too long in our minds, they can grow and develop into something
more serious than prejudice. This is when we start acting and treating other people in a different, often
bad and inhumane way.[7] This is another possible danger of using stereotypes, which is called
discrimination. There are many different types of discrimination, based on appearance, age,
nationality, sex, etc. One of the most common forms of discrimination is based on a well known
stereotype found in many movies, magazines, and even in cartoons. It is the stereotype of a dumb
blonde. [8] It is an image of a girl who is physically attractive, but lacks brains. This stereotype is so
powerful, that very often all blonde girls

earthly pleasure. For people in modern times, possessions and wealth are often what guide
relationships the modern life in general. People who put value in material wealth will struggle and
struggle all their lives, but will never be able to find true happiness. Literature and entertainment
provides countless examples of the truth of this statement. For much of their lives, Fitzwilliam Darcy
and Charlie Babbitt show only pride and love for their money and possessions, and until they met the
people who eventually be the most important to them, they weren t able to truly experience love and
redemption from their vain lifestyles.
In both Pride and Prejudice and Rain Man, Charlie and Mr. Darcy show traits of excessive pride and
vanity when they find self worth in their money and social status. When Charlie originally decides he
is going to take Raymond back to Los Angeles from Cincinnati, he is trying to use Ray as leverage so
that he can get his share of his recently passed father s

Comparing My Last Duchess, La Belle Dame Sans Merci and A...
Differing Views of Male female Relationships in Three Poems
In the three poems we experience three different views of how male female relationships should take
place. In My Last Duchess we experience the view that the male should have the main role in
relationships, in La Belle Dame Sans Merci we hear of a relationship where the woman is in total
control of the man and has all the power.
Finally in A Woman to Her Lover we read that both men and women should have an equal amount of
power and no one should be dominant. In My Last Duchess the thoughts of a very possessive and
arrogant
Duke of Ferrara are shared. He expected his wife to behave in a very conservative manner and wanted
her to treat others as inferior. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to this, we can see that he is holding this piece of artwork with the same value as the
picture of his wife which shows that the Duke believes that he is superior to everyone else.
The strong feminist views in A Woman to Her Lover however, are in total contrast to the well known
ideas in My Last Duchess . Although at first A Woman to Her Lover appears to only show the feminist
views of relationships, it is in fact in search of equality between the males and females in
relationships. My Last Duchess gives the sense that a man has the leading role, and all of the power in
any relationship whereas in A Woman to Her Lover , the ideas that both men and women should be
equal in relationships are uttered.
In the first stanza of the poem, we can see that the woman examines how women are typically
expected to be by men (as a housewife) the
servant and to bear you children . The very fact that she is expressing these phrases in a critical and
negative manner implies that she has a resents this idea towards this stereotypical view of women. At
the ending of this first stanza, she states; If that be what you ask, O lover I refuse you! The use of the
refrain here, not only points out her hostility, but also shows that she

How John Coltrane Influenced Jazz
The alto saxophonist, John Coltrane, was one of the most cultural ethical leaders of avant garde jazz,
in the 1960 s. He was an innovative composer and artist who pushed the boundaries of contemporary
jazz. Avant gardism liberated artists from the traditional form of jazz and pushed them to question and
change the whole idea of jazz itself. Coltrane was the type of musician who believed that he could
always be better than he already was. It was not unusual for someone to see him always practicing his
music, he would practice for hours and hours a day. Coltrane mastered a lot of the different styles of
jazz, because of this he went on to learn different types of music from different backgrounds so that he
could use it to improvise his music. From all the jazz artist we have learned this semester, so far,
Coltrane seems to be the one who had the greatest passion for jazz. For this, I admire his hard work
and passion he had for jazz. Even though he had already learned just about everything he could about
jazz, he still kept trying to learn new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Charlie Parker was a big inspiration to him, so much that Coltrane s sound of jazz was quite similar to
Parker s even though he did not play the same exact thing like other musician s would do with Parker
s music. Coltrane s music involved the use of scales, pedal points, multiphonics, free improvisation,
and shifting rhythms. He was obsessed with scales, he would practice them whenever he could. He
would also try to practice playing every note in every chord he could. In fact, Kind of Blue, is one of
his most influential pieces, it is considered a test pattern for music students attempting to master fast
moving harmonies. He was an inspiration to many upcoming jazz musicians, instead of sticking to the
classics, he tried to teach upcoming musicians to think outside the box and think of fresh ideas that
had not been done

The Debt And Equity Securities
Prior to 2016, both debt and equity securities could be classified as available for sale and their gains
and losses reported in other comprehensive income. However, with the passing of Accounting
Standard Update No, 2016 01, all equity securities must now be classified as trading and their
unrealized gains and losses reported in earnings. After examining the history of available for sale
reporting standard and running pro forma scenarios of Yahoo! Inc. s financial statements, I have
determined that it better reflects the true risks taken by the company for the unrealized gains and
losses on equity securities to appear in earnings rather than other comprehensive income. In May of
1993, FASB issued Statement of Financial Accounting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, even if management lacks the intention to sell, there remain events and circumstances
beyond the control of management that can force the need to sell. By measuring the changes in fair
value in net income it allows the investors to know the potential effects of these events and
circumstances. Critics of the fair value measurement cite the increase in volatility that it causes in net
income. A distinct disadvantage to reporting the gains and losses on the income statement is that these
gains and losses have not actually occurred and may not ever be realized (Proposed change..., 2009).
The input surrounding the current cost method indicated that the method was not developed enough
nor well defined. The board agreed and discarded the method early on in the deliberations. Those who
favor amortized cost claim that it avoids some of the temporary fluctuations in net income. The
arguments against amortized cost include: 1) It reflects an irrelevant historical transaction price that is
not useful in current investment decisions. 2) Use of amortized cost depends on subjective impairment
models that can be manipulated to smooth earnings. With all things considered, the board decided that
a change in fair value being shown in net income is a more appropriate measurement for equity
investments. The reasoning being that the realizable value of these investments could be realized by
selling the equity instruments. In contrast, the realizable value of debt

History
The Joint Commission is the oldest accrediting body in health care. Founded in 1951, it continues to
improve health care for the public. The roots of The Joint Commission date back to 1918 where a
group of surgeons led voluntary onsite hospital inspections (www.jointcommission.org). Accreditation
is used to verify that certain organizations have an appropriate quality management system and can
properly perform certain test methods according to their specialty. The terms accreditation and
certification are used interchangeably but are not the same. Certification refers to verifying certain
credentials met by personnel or to verify that some products meet certain ... Show more content on

The focus of this visit will be centered within our office; therefore I would like to go over with you to
ensure preparedness.
I want to reinforce that the standards focus on patient centered functions and organization functions.
The patient functions includes rights and ethics, assessment, care, treatment, and services. The
organizational functions will focus on the performance, leadership, and safety in the workplace.
I have placed a manual on each of your desks that needs reviewing prior to Wednesday, August 12. We
need to have the ability to compare and contrast in preparation for this visit. The manual will provide
you with the standard; therefore your duty will be to compare the standard with our current operation.
A mandatory meeting will follow on Thursday, August 13.
What will the surveyor be asking, doing, reading, and observing during the visit? How can we be sure
that everything the surveyor sees, hears, and reads is Joint Commission compliant?

Analysis Of The Article Writing Like A White Guy
Angst! Peur! Miedo! Страх! Fear! Regardless of what language it is said in, fear carries the same
meaning. As some may say, fear is what can be seen throughout the United States of America as
President Trump takes his first days in the White House. This fear has come from the idea that the
social transformation Barack Obama has begun since his first day in office, eight years ago, may be
coming to an end. Disregarding what may happen next in politics, fear has helped to expose the
problems that today s society has related to human rights. It can be seen in today s news that; this
exposure has motivated people to join arms and push for change. Jaswinder Bolina is one of those
people. In his article Writing Like a White Guy Bolina dives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This intention can be seen in many different ways throughout the article. For instance, at the
beginning of his article, he shares an experience that only certain people can relate; It s only in
America that such an immigrant discovers any brown skinned body can have a camel f*cker or a sand
n*gger hurled at him (2). Bolina s decision to use an experience that features such aggressive and
derogatory terms speaks volume to the reader. These terms impact the reader s attitude as they create a
feeling of sympathy for the author as well as a feeling of disgust and embarrassment for the person,
who used those terms, along with the society that the person is associated with. Not to mention, the
experience demonstrates the fact he has encountered extreme racism, but it also creates the possibility
to evoke strong emotions for the reader. Furthermore, this incident does more than identify the
audience, it boosts his credibility and demonstrates his use of pathos as well. Another example occurs
when Bolina elaborates on the idea that different races have been historically limited to certain
educations. In this part of the article, he begins to speak in 1st person, as seen in the statement; When I
say privilege here, I mean the condition of not needing to consider what others are forced to consider
(5). This statement refers to the decision making of an immigrant, therefore

Romanticism In Sense And Sensibility
In the eighteenth century, reason and emotion no longer worked together. Emotion was kept down and
was considered inferior. Social conventions were more important than individual convictions. In other
words people considered form more significant than content. As regard art, this period was called
Classical period. The opposite of this was slowly being prepared to burst out at the time of the French
Revolution. This period was called Romantic.
What Romanticism tried to do was stir all the way through the Age of Reason so in this case man and
nature became fused through participation in the one mighty being , so that the most elemental natural
objects became humanised . The term of sensibility emerged as a concept in the Enlightenment Era
but continued to be defined during the Romantic period and beyond. This new concept describes
people s capacity to be affected by the world around them. It also directly correlates their emotional
capabilities with their moral development. A high moral standard should result in an appropriate
emotional response. What was considered appropriate was different for men and women, however.
People thought that sensibility led ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can find in this piece of literature work that Marianne Dashwood is guided by too much passion
and acts inappropriately, while her sister, Elinor reacts with too much prudence. Eventually, both
sisters are rewarded with marriage once they learn how to regulate the appropriate amount of
emotional response and gain knowledge through experience. Moreover, we can observer that both
concepts are necessary in order to act in a correct way. The author tries to show the readers how
important sense is in our lives. Not only can we act through our reason but also we need to take into

Descriptive Essay On Symnasts
2012 Midland City, Dothan Alabama. At the age of eight years old. It was a hot day. So hot you could
see people cooking up in the sun. That didn t stop us little 3rd graders from playing outside, on the
playground. On the playground there are some gymnasts bars. Their is a small one, medium one, and a
large one. I was the Queen of the small and medium gymnasts bars. This day I was going to attempt
something new. Me,Samari(my sister) and Evan are doing the gymnast bars. All the other kids are
watching and cheering use on. I was doing so many moves I felt like I was a gymnast. The rules were
who does good moves on the small bar would get 100 points, the medium bars equal 1,000 points, and
the large on equals one trillion. Everybody know that no one would get on the large bars but boy were
they wrong. Samari was doing the small and medium bars Evan was doing the same thing. I got up on
the large bar and hung upside down. People started to cheer.
I said, why are y all falling off the earth?
They all started to laugh. It was beginning to get super intense. All my blood was dropping to my
head. Then the wind started to blow and Evan came by and pushed me and my legs got loose and I fell
down. My chest hit a rock. It felted like a knife drove into my chest and two my heart. I landed on the
ground on my back. When i hit the ground my soul and all of the air in my body fell out. All i could

Essay on Code of Hammurabi and the Book of Exodus
The secular laws of Babylon were laid down by Hammurabi in The Code of Hammurabi , and in the
book of Exodus. These laws provided stability and order in those respective societies. As society
depended upon them, it is natural to assume that the laws relied upon society as well and reflect the
values held by each society, not only in the laws themselves, but also in how they are written, whom
they pertain to and how they are executed. While at first glance the law codes appear similar, there are
a number of differences that provide key insight to what was held dear in each society. How do
differences in these two law codes attest to differences in the two societies which pronounced them,

(Avalos 621). This furthers the impression that Israelite society was one more deeply rooted in
tradition and religious customs. This is not to say that the temples were not used in Babylon, in fact
court proceedings usually took place within the temple. The reason for this was that in the event of it
being impossible to decide the outcome of a trial, the accused was usually required to make an oath to
the gods proclaiming his or her innocence. (Greengus 473) Babylonian trials were usually recorded in
writing and stored to prevent future lawsuits and confusion.
The greatest differences in the values of each society can be seen in the laws themselves, what they
cover and how they do so. Many of the laws in Exodus relate to agriculture such as Exodus 22:5,
which deal with allowing livestock to graze on another man s property. Agricultural vocabulary is also
used throughout the book, indicative of a more agrarian economy. However, the Code of Hammurabi
has a vast number of laws relating to material goods reflecting a much more financially centered
culture than we see in ancient Israel. Numbers 15 and 16 in the Code of Hammurabi concern runaway
slaves and the consequences of harboring them.
15. If any one takes a male or female slave of the court, or a male or female slave of a freed man,

There are foster care, group homes, and other services for children safety. The Child Protective Services in Alabama has the sole purpose of helping children in cases of neglect and abuse (Child Protective Services). These services include foster care programs where children who are at risk of harm from birth family, or who suffers from mental, emotional, or physical issues. With the media portraying foster care as a negative solution to a very serious issue, does not work well with getting children out of their current situations. No one really exhibits how the children feel in foster care in the media, but studies show, children in the foster care system may not view their situation as negative. These children may have a great experience in foster care, even though there are a few flawed areas in the system. Their perception of foster care may be very different from the workers of child protection services and the media s perception (Chapman, Wall, Barth, 2004; Ellingsen, Stephens, Storksen, 2012; Fernandez, 2007; Jones Kruk, 2005). The children s perception of foster care is the most important perception dince they are the ones who has to live in the system. The Foster Care System The foster care system in the United States is viewed negatively and the media portrays it as such. The public only knows what the media tells them about the foster care system. The stereotypical views are mostly what is thought the foster care system consisted of, not what goes on behind the scenes (Leber LeCroy, 2012). The only people who would have a good insight on what goes on behind the scenes are the people that are involved, which are the caregivers, the social workers, the biological families, and the children. Their placements, relationships with their caregivers, and stability all had factors of how the foster care system was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kamel Alghiryafi ENGL 2328 Rachel Hebert 2 December 2017 Diction, Images and Irony in Hughes s The Negro Speaks of Rivers The Negro Speaks of Rivers is Langston Hughes most anthologized poem. It is one of Hughes most punctual poems, and its subject built up the accentuation of a lot of his consequent poetry. The Negro Speaks of Rivers fixates on African and negritude themes. Hughes composition dependably indicates recognizable proof with Africa, and his later poetry on African subjects and African themes demonstrates his developing refinement and learning of the history and issues of Africa. The following line associates the poet with the river and recognizes the impact of waterways on the history of the African American: My soul has grown deep like the rivers (Line, 3). A personal strength of mine is collaborating well with others. Also, when engaging with another individual, I am able to have patience as well as be an attentive listener. These qualities are important in the field of OT because teamwork is the best approach. Finding the answers to the problems is not going to be independently based all the time. Colleagues help each other out by combining unique ideas in order to come up with the best possible solution. While working with the patient, it is important to have the skill of being a good listener because hearing why they are there and what they are struggling with is necessary for assessing the situation in order to help him/her in the best way. Also, a patient is not going to be completely cured after one session of OT, so possessing patience throughout the entire process is a key factor that all OT s should work towards. It is important to be critical in evaluating the results of these studies because behaviors in artificial situations or captivity will be different than in the wild. Animals are likely to act differently when they are not in their natural environment. Behaviors will vary and the long lasting effects of the behaviors may not be visible (Lalaland, 2003). Another important aspect about the cultural evidence is it was first observed in 1952 and eight generations later, in 2008, was still being observed in the wild monkeys. The monkeys on this island develop behavioral differences as a result of social learning rather than genetic variation (Matsuzawa, 2008: R588). The next study regarding primates was seen in 2010 while observing wild chimpanzees in Uganda, with cultural differences between two populations in different areas. The chimpanzees displayed different ways of utilizing tools around them to retrieve honey within the fallen logs around them. The Kibale Forest chimps used sticks while the Budongo Forest chimps utilized leaves sponges that were made from chewed leaves. To study the differences, researchers provided the monkeys with a task to retrieve honey out of an apparatus. Each group resorted to behaviors that they had been familiar with in the beginning, those from Kibale using sticks and Budongo resorting to leave sponges (Cell Press, 2010). Klause Zuberhuler (Cell Press, 2010) from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland noted that the reason for the differences in tools was that chimpanzees resorted to preexisting cultural knowledge in trying to solve the novel task and that culture helped them in dealing with this novel problem. • 8. Giant Butterflies Symbolism Vladimir Kush on his beautiful oil canvas has depicted a three masted sailing ship heading out to the open sea on a windy day. The ship is very different than your everyday sailing ship what strike out most is the giant butterflies that form the sails on the ship; it s as if these butterflies are catching the heavy wind that is blowing out into the sea. The conditions on the sea look fairly calm but the sea looks wavy and moving clouds show us the strong wind that is carrying the ship out. People on the shore are seen holding windsock as an indication to show the strength of the wind. People are also seen wind surfing across the seashore and there too butterfly wings have taken over the place of traditional sails. The beautiful painting is a visual treat to anyone laying eyes on it. The blue sky the wavy water the sailboats all are ironic to any coastal shore. The moon on the distance is an indication that it s early dusk or dawn. The sea looks windswept but calm and clear rather than stormy and angry. The ship is setting out on a long journey but the butterflies are an indication to a positive spin on departure so it s probably intended for people who have had or will have firsthand experience with departure and those emotions. Winged ship is portrayed to bring in a calming and cheering effect. And Kush has used his imagination to depict the painting; he has used pure imagination in creating winged ship. • 9. The Diary Of Alne Frank And The Diary Of Anne Frank The Outsiders is a novel about a fourteen year gang member Ponyboy, who lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and his struggles as a greaser and his relationship with his brother. The Diary Of Anne Frank play is a fictional adaptation about the life of Anne Frank in the Secret Annex during World War II. Both texts illustrate the theme that people become more mature after experiencing and going through a difficult time. The Diary of Anne Frank shows the changes in behavior and maturity for the main character, Anne, as she stays in the annex for two years. In Act I, Anne was more energetic and playful as a thirteen year old. Act I Scene 3 highlights Anne s playful and clumsy behavior by talking about her pranks. On page 552, it states Anne: Who cares if it s dignified? I don t want to be dignified. Mrs. Frank: [To Anne] You complain that I don t treat you like a grownup. But when I do, you resent it (Goodrich and Hackett 552). This shows that Anne is not ready to be treated like an adult. She dislikes when her mother expects her to be mature and she has a teenage mentality. She does not care that her behavior is not dignified and mature. She wants to have fun and frolic, much like what a child would want. Therefore, in the beginning of Act I, Anne acts childish and immature. However, in Scene 4 of Act II, it mentions how Anne has matured. She is no longer a child, but a woman with courage to meet whatever lies ahead (634). The chemical equation of the formation of zinc hydroxide after zinc and iodine react: 2Zn+I2+2H2O2Zn(OH)2+I2 2. When zinc hydroxide and acetic acid are reacted, the zinc hydroxide dissolves and a clear liquid is formed which contains zinc acetate and water. Because zinc hydroxide is amphoteric, it can either give or receive a proton. When zinc hydroxide reacts with acetic acid, the reaction yields zinc acetate and water. The reaction is as follows: Zn(OH)2 + 2CH3COOHZn(CH3COO) 2 + 2H2O 3. What is a side reaction? A side reaction is an unwanted chemical reaction that diminishes the yield of the desired product. 4. Acetic acid was used in the synthesis of zinc iodide because an addition of a weak acid prevents the formation of Zn(OH)2 that occurs when zinc and iodine react with deionized water. The formation of the precipitate inhibits the production of the product ZnI2 and may make it seem as if the basic law of conservation of mass was not obeyed. Since acetic acid and water are both volatile, they can both be easily removed from the solution by heating which would possibly leave behind more ZnI2 . When the acid is not added, it is interesting to observe the Zn(OH)2 precipitate that is formed. A New Inquiry: What if we had heated this precipitate too like in the last experiment to remove all H2O from it? Would the heating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He has an incredibly close, personal touch, yet, at the same time is naturally more quiet and withdrawing. Analysis of Leadership Dynamics Pastor X s leadership theory is clearly a bottom up approach; he avoids wrangling the conversation unfairly to his perspective, instead, he identifies himself as a component of the process, not the process itself. This instills in the members a trust in him that is remarkably deep. He also tends to seek out members for services that they provide (i.e. medical) in order that he can relate to them on a personal while simultaneously on a spiritual level. As I pointed out above, he empowers his members by giving them opportunities and allowing them to experiment, with the promise that he will be there to provide support if problems explode. However, this model allows problems to be resolved quickly and quietly and not spiral rapidly out of control. He averts empowering the members in the way of resources what I am alluding to is that he is willing to acquire resources when needed, yet avoids seeking them out himself. He feels that it is best for individual leaders of departments to determine these decisions. His relationship with the church is uncommonly positive, in spite of a few differences. • 12. Similarities Between Their Eyes Were Watching God And... The Hurricane and flood in the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston illuminates the similarity between the novel and the natural disaster that occurred in south Florida in 1992. In the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, the protagonist Janie marries and remarries three times in hope of finding the right man who can help her find her voice. As can be seen, Hurricane Andrew and the hurricane in the novel are similar in that they both correlate with one another. Janie walks through a hurricane that symbolizes of all the troubles she faced in life which is similar to Hurricane Andrew and the hardships it caused for many people living in south Florida at the time. The hurricane being a metaphor for her other struggles, helps us get a clear understanding of the hardships she faced in life. Once the storm ends, all these troubles Janie had to face in life come to an end as well because now she gets to live a new life back in Eatonville without any of these marriages or anything else that caused her troubles in life previously. The claims made by Steinberg help analyze the similarities between Janie and Hurricane Andrew which gives us a clear understanding of how Hurricane Andrew is a representation of Janie s hardships in life. In 1992, Hurricane Andrew hit south Florida destructing thousands upon thousands of homes, killing people, leaving south Florida completely destroyed. Whether driving to the grocery store, driving to work, or driving to a friends house, chances are you have used your cell phone at least once while operating a vehicle, but is this dangerous? Simultaneously driving and the use of a cell phone is deemed illegal in many states under the presumption that it is a distraction to driving. This legislation is usually preconceived under the notion that the distraction comes from peripheral factors associated with the use of a cell phone and not the conversation on the cell phone itself. Past research measured individuals who were using a cell phone prior to an accident, but this questions validity. These individuals whom used a cell phone before an accident could be prone to more risky behavior on the road and not due to the use of the cell phone itself. Other research attempted to measure distraction with phone conversations, but relied on arithmetic, reasoning, and mental tasks, all which are not of a typical phone conversation. Research conducted in 2001 by Strayer and Johnston aimed to resolve these issues by measuring the extent in which the use of cell phone by conversation interferes with driving and the underlying factors for the interference. This research is of utmost importance because individuals could not only be putting their self at risk when using a cellphone while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While working off the debt they essentially became a servant, to those from whom they had borrowed money, for a specific period of time. Although contracts varied, sometimes they specified that the servants, when set free, were to be set free with some money, or a plot of land, or even a spouse. In contrast, if slaves were set free they simply had to hope for the generosity of their owners to prevail in any shape or form which it often did not. Peons were another group of laborers. They were people that were either forced to work off debts or they were people who were criminals. They did not have any prespecified length of time to work. Instead they simply had to work until their debts had been paid off. (Encyclopedia Britannica) Seeing what slavery is not, one must then ask, what is slavery? A Basic definition is one which states that, a slave was chattel an article of property that could be bought, punished, sold, loaned, used as collateral, or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Pearl In The Scarlett Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne Hester Prynne s daughter Pearl is one of the most complex characters observed in The Scarlet Letter. The fact that such a small child can have such a huge impact on the adults in the story can be thought of as ironic and thought provoking. Pearl goes against all of the odds that the community has set for her. Everyone assumes that Pearl is a demon child because she was born as a result of the sin of lust, and she does at times demonstrate signs of being peculiar. But Pearl, who was a dauntless child, after frowning, stamping her foot, and shaking her little hand with a variety of threatening gestures, suddenly made a rush at the knot of her enemies, and put them all to flight. (88). The reader is shocked when we see that she ends up with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pearl s characteristics cause her to become paranoid about her possibly having demon or witch like traits passed to her from her sin. The child could not be made amenable to rules. (77). This is the first time Pearl s oddities are introduced to the audience. Hawthorne is foreshadowing her up and coming childhood filled with strange actions and keen observations. Even as an infant, Pearl seems to be aware of her mother s sin. But that first object of which Pearl seemed to become aware was shall we say it? the scarlet letter on Hester s bosom! (82). Since the scarlet letter is what she was first aware of, it could be said that this is where Pearl and the scarlet letter became one . To the Puritans, the scarlet letter is a peculiarity and so is Pearl, so some comparisons can be made between the two. Her exposure to the letter is a stepping stone for the growing fixation that she has to it as she gets older. Pearl s awareness of the letter helps the development of the plot and keeps Hester on her toes, because she rarely allows her mother to forget about it. Still came the battery of flowers, almost invariably hitting the mark, and covering her mother s breast... (83) I see you here. Look! Look... Hester looked, by way of humoring the child; and she saw that, owing to the peculiar effect of this convex mirror, the scarlet letter was represented in exaggerated and gigantic ... • 38. Why Are Stereotypes Dangerous and What Can Be Done to... Why Are Stereotypes Dangerous and What Can Be Done to Reduce Them? Very often, in our everyday life, we tend to make certain generalizations about things and people around us. This is because we are constantly exposed to heaps of information, and in order to cope with the complexity of the world around us, we need to generalize and categorize.[1] Sometimes we do this on purpose, with some intention. However, very often we do this subconsciously, unaware of what we are doing. Many people generalize on others according to their clothes, profession, origin, way of speaking, and many other, outer markers. This sort of thinking could be very dangerous, and it can lead us to creating stereotypes. Stereotype is a term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To prove this to be true, some of my colleagues and me had some people from our environment interviewed on this topic. It is interesting that most of them had similar answers, and almost everyone said the English were reserved, snobbish, and even evil. Americans were fat and stupid, self centered. Although none of them would admit to be stereotyping, they all somehow knew this was true. Many of them, when asked if they would ever live in these countries responded negativelly, because the people were bad. Thus they had some prejudices formed against these people, and did not want to do anything to help them understand and appreciate the other culture. Discrimination When the stereotypes we have formed last for too long in our minds, they can grow and develop into something more serious than prejudice. This is when we start acting and treating other people in a different, often bad and inhumane way.[7] This is another possible danger of using stereotypes, which is called discrimination. There are many different types of discrimination, based on appearance, age, nationality, sex, etc. One of the most common forms of discrimination is based on a well known stereotype found in many movies, magazines, and even in cartoons. It is the stereotype of a dumb blonde. [8] It is an image of a girl who is physically attractive, but lacks brains. This stereotype is so powerful, that very often all blonde girls ... • 39. Vanity In Pride And Prejudice Solomon was known as the smartest and wisest man in the world. He became a king of Israel, and decided that he was going to figure out where happiness is found. He thought that money might be able to make him happy, so he became the richest man in the world, but he was unsuccessful in his pursuit of happiness. He then tried alcohol and women, but he was still unsuccessful. By the end of his pursuit, he eventually determined that happiness could not be found in possessions and money, or any earthly pleasure. For people in modern times, possessions and wealth are often what guide relationships the modern life in general. People who put value in material wealth will struggle and struggle all their lives, but will never be able to find true happiness. Literature and entertainment provides countless examples of the truth of this statement. For much of their lives, Fitzwilliam Darcy and Charlie Babbitt show only pride and love for their money and possessions, and until they met the people who eventually be the most important to them, they weren t able to truly experience love and redemption from their vain lifestyles. In both Pride and Prejudice and Rain Man, Charlie and Mr. Darcy show traits of excessive pride and vanity when they find self worth in their money and social status. Differing Views of Male female Relationships in Three Poems In the three poems we experience three different views of how male female relationships should take place. In My Last Duchess we experience the view that the male should have the main role in relationships, in La Belle Dame Sans Merci we hear of a relationship where the woman is in total control of the man and has all the power. Finally in A Woman to Her Lover we read that both men and women should have an equal amount of power and no one should be dominant. In My Last Duchess the thoughts of a very possessive and arrogant Duke of Ferrara are shared. He expected his wife to behave in a very conservative manner and wanted her to treat others as inferior. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to this, we can see that he is holding this piece of artwork with the same value as the picture of his wife which shows that the Duke believes that he is superior to everyone else. The strong feminist views in A Woman to Her Lover however, are in total contrast to the well known ideas in My Last Duchess . Although at first A Woman to Her Lover appears to only show the feminist views of relationships, it is in fact in search of equality between the males and females in relationships. My Last Duchess gives the sense that a man has the leading role, and all of the power in any relationship whereas in A Woman to Her Lover , the ideas that both men and women should be equal in relationships are uttered. In the first stanza of the poem, we can see that the woman examines how women are typically expected to be by men (as a housewife) the servant and to bear you children . The very fact that she is expressing these phrases in a critical and negative manner implies that she has a resents this idea towards this stereotypical view of women. At the ending of this first stanza, she states; If that be what you ask, O lover I refuse you! The use of the refrain here, not only points out her hostility, but also shows that she ... • 41. How John Coltrane Influenced Jazz The alto saxophonist, John Coltrane, was one of the most cultural ethical leaders of avant garde jazz, in the 1960 s. He was an innovative composer and artist who pushed the boundaries of contemporary jazz. Avant gardism liberated artists from the traditional form of jazz and pushed them to question and change the whole idea of jazz itself. Coltrane was the type of musician who believed that he could always be better than he already was. It was not unusual for someone to see him always practicing his music, he would practice for hours and hours a day. Coltrane mastered a lot of the different styles of jazz, because of this he went on to learn different types of music from different backgrounds so that he could use it to improvise his music. From all the jazz artist we have learned this semester, so far, Coltrane seems to be the one who had the greatest passion for jazz. For this, I admire his hard work and passion he had for jazz. By measuring the changes in fair value in net income it allows the investors to know the potential effects of these events and circumstances. Critics of the fair value measurement cite the increase in volatility that it causes in net income. A distinct disadvantage to reporting the gains and losses on the income statement is that these gains and losses have not actually occurred and may not ever be realized (Proposed change..., 2009). The input surrounding the current cost method indicated that the method was not developed enough nor well defined. The board agreed and discarded the method early on in the deliberations. Those who favor amortized cost claim that it avoids some of the temporary fluctuations in net income. The arguments against amortized cost include: 1) It reflects an irrelevant historical transaction price that is not useful in current investment decisions. 2) Use of amortized cost depends on subjective impairment models that can be manipulated to smooth earnings. As some may say, fear is what can be seen throughout the United States of America as President Trump takes his first days in the White House. This fear has come from the idea that the social transformation Barack Obama has begun since his first day in office, eight years ago, may be coming to an end. Disregarding what may happen next in politics, fear has helped to expose the problems that today s society has related to human rights. For instance, at the beginning of his article, he shares an experience that only certain people can relate; It s only in America that such an immigrant discovers any brown skinned body can have a camel f*cker or a sand n*gger hurled at him (2). Bolina s decision to use an experience that features such aggressive and derogatory terms speaks volume to the reader. These terms impact the reader s attitude as they create a feeling of sympathy for the author as well as a feeling of disgust and embarrassment for the person, who used those terms, along with the society that the person is associated with. Not to mention, the experience demonstrates the fact he has encountered extreme racism, but it also creates the possibility to evoke strong emotions for the reader. Furthermore, this incident does more than identify the audience, it boosts his credibility and demonstrates his use of pathos as well. Another example occurs when Bolina elaborates on the idea that different races have been historically limited to certain educations. In this part of the article, he begins to speak in 1st person, as seen in the statement; When I say privilege here, I mean the condition of not needing to consider what others are forced to consider (5). • 45. Romanticism In Sense And Sensibility In the eighteenth century, reason and emotion no longer worked together. Emotion was kept down and was considered inferior. Social conventions were more important than individual convictions. In other words people considered form more significant than content. As regard art, this period was called Classical period. The opposite of this was slowly being prepared to burst out at the time of the French Revolution. This period was called Romantic. What Romanticism tried to do was stir all the way through the Age of Reason so in this case man and nature became fused through participation in the one mighty being , so that the most elemental natural objects became humanised . The term of sensibility emerged as a concept in the Enlightenment Era but continued to be defined during the Romantic period and beyond. This is not to say that the temples were not used in Babylon, in fact court proceedings usually took place within the temple. The reason for this was that in the event of it being impossible to decide the outcome of a trial, the accused was usually required to make an oath to the gods proclaiming his or her innocence. (Greengus 473) Babylonian trials were usually recorded in writing and stored to prevent future lawsuits and confusion.
