De Onis Article Preventing Childhood Obesity
Social and economic development as well as policies in the areas of agriculture, transport, urban
planning, environment, education, food processing, distribution and marketing influence children s
dietary habits and preferences as well as their physical activity patterns. Increasingly, these influences
are promoting unhealthy weight gain leading to a steady rise in the prevalence of childhood obesity.
Obesity and overweight are linked to more deaths worldwide than underweight (WHO, 2015) and this
sparked my interest to find out how to prevent childhood obesity and overweight.
In his article Preventing childhood overweight and obesity , de Onis (2015) emphasizes the essential
role of physical activity in the control of childhood obesity .

Muslims believe the prophets of God are His messengers to...
Muslims believe the prophets of God are His messengers to human kind, they include; Adam, Noah,
Joseph, Luke, Moses, Abraham, Jesus and Muhammad. Salman noted in our discussion that Noah
should be an example to us all because he preached for 950 years and was listened to by less than a
dozen people. All others mocked him so he was very courageous in his obedience and faith. The
Kaaba is the most sacred place in Islam. The Kaaba is located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is where
millions of people make a pilgrimage. Salman said during his pilgrimage to Mecca there were over 3
million people who answered the call of prayer and in a matter of minutes were lined up side by side,
shoulders touching so that Satan could not squeeze in. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the Law of Islam is not the law of the land a Muslim professor may serve as adviser to the local

by the position of the sun in the sky which varies depending on geographic location. There are seven
postures, one that we often see is with forehead, nose, hands and knees all touching the ground at the
same time. Most of what I have seen and read on Muslim prayer indicated they pray toward Mecca but
in the Sunni Mosque in Murfreesboro I thought I saw them turn 3 different directions as I watched
them pray. The most basic and essential prayer is the shahada. It goes: La ilaha ill Allah; wa

words that are whispered into Muslim baby and the last words a person hears when he or she is on

Stereotypes Of Serial Killers
Unlike murderers, a psychopath s urge to kill does not come from average family affairs, financial
disputes, or disagreements in relationships. Psycho killers are driven by a desire to kill that is often
sexual and causes them to murder strangers and it is imperative to determine what makes a serial killer
so distinct from homicidal murderers. It has been proved that genetics is the key role in determining
who becomes a serial killer while criminologists and psychologists argue that abuse and abandonment
create the foundation in which serial killers grow into vicious murders. The largest difference between
a murderer and a serial killer is their desire to kill.
Unlike that of a normal homicide, serial killers are only driven by instinct ... Show more content on

Surroundings, behaviour, childhood experiences and frequent traumas are imperative factors during
the early stages of one s life due to how it may affect them as a person. Naturally we are all born with
a different genetic make up but many argue that differences in DNA do not create a psychokiller. The
main focus of many criminologists and psychologists are the origins and the surroundings of these

Serial killers generally seek control over the life of another, and at a younger age a small animal is the
only type of creature they will be able to fully dominate ( Early ) . By hurting someone smaller and
more vulnerable to seek comfort and emotional release, the potential serial killer will feel in control

Essay on Being Careful about Putting Animals in Captivity
Animals in captivity. It has been an issue since the first zoo was opened. Many people are for and
against it. I think that there are many pros and cons to having them in captivity. The main issue in the
world is how do you possibly make it as close to the animal s natural environment in captivity. It is
almost impossible. You can t start building sea world all over the ocean and hope the animals show up.

Reviewing The Topic Of Breast Cancer
The purpose of this proposal is to request approval to continue researching the topic of Breast Cancer.
In this introduction, it will include a problem about the topic and a valid solution in who to solve it. It
also discusses the research and research methods put into this technical report, personal qualifications,
work schedule, and lastly a table in which lists a time schedule in which this report will be completed.
Introduction
Breast cancer has a significant amount of impact on the women, men, and families it effects.Breast
cancer is only made of topic one month a year, that month is October. Although during this time breast
cancer is talked about, many do not know what it actually is nor do people know the damage breast
cancer can have on the body, or what the body goes through. By addressing the problem of awareness
and education society needs on breast cancer, I will be able to give great information and detailed
research to those who seek and are not knowledgeable about breast cancer.
Statement of Problem
Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts in the cells of the breast. A malignant tumor is a group of
cancer cells that can grow into (invade) surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of
the body (American Cancer Society). Through this About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12%) will

The Jacob Wetterling Sexually Violent Offender...
Background/ History Before Megan s law there was The Jacob Wetterling sexually violent offender
registration act. Under this act it meant that all violent sex offenders will have to register and the
police will be informed when they are release also. Now we move forward couple of years 1996 when
the Megan s Law was passed. The difference between these two the Jacob Wetterling sexually violent
offender registration act and Megans Law is that the act focus on the high risk offender having to
register once they get out of prison. When you look at Megan s law it has to do with that and also
adding community notification. Megan s Law was named after a seven year old girl from New Jersey
Megan Nicole Kanka. On July 29, 1994 she was invited by a neighbor to see his puppy. He was a
twice convicted pedophile; he sexually assaulted and murdered her. Due to the brutality of the crime
that was done to Megan it mandate registration of sex offenders and corresponding community
notification. Now what are the details of Megan s laws? Require states to have convicted sex offenders
who are no longer incarcerated to register where they live to the police of that town. In an article
Megan s Law assessing the practical and monetary efficacy written by Kristen Zgoiba the two main
elements are registration and notification. Megan s Law allows the states to establish criteria for
private and personal information on registered sexy officer to be available to the public. (Zgoba,

The Cleveland Cavaliers Case Study
The Cleveland Cavaliers were founded by Nick Mileti and established in the National Basketball
Association in 1970. The Cleveland Cavaliers were organized with the Buffalo Braves and the
Portland Trail Blazers. Their inaugural season resulted in a last place finish with the record of 15 wins
and 67 losses. The Cavaliers originally played their games in the Cleveland arena. In 1974, the team
moved to the Coliseum and, as their exposure to the game grew, the team improved. The year 1976
marked their first division title which sent them to their first NBA playoff appearance. In 1980, Mileti
sold the team to Ted Stepien. Three years later, he was accused of making trades and other coach
hirings. After the franchise lost $15 million under Stepien leadership, he sold the Cavaliers to George
and Gordon Gund. George and Gordon Gund hired Wayne Embry as general manager and Lenny
Wilkens as head coach. Seven years later, Wilkens resigned as coach and Mike Fratello took his spot.
For the 1994 1995 season, the Cavaliers moved to Gateway Gund Arena. Fratello used his coaching
skills to lead the Cavaliers to the 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1998 playoffs. However, Fratello was not able
to pass the first round of playoffs in 1999. Thus, Wayne Embry resigned as general manager and Jim

this lead to the firing of Brown. Brown was replaced by David Blatt in 2014. That year in free agency,

The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy Essay
The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy
Thomas Hardy wrote the novel The Mayor of Casterbridge in 1886. Two of the main characters,
Donald Farfrae and Michael Henchard have a contrast in luck and Hardy uses characterisation,
language, historical and social background and a craft in the structure of his novel to help bring across
this point. During this essay I am going to comment upon how Hardy does this and further consider
the view that, Farfrae s good fortune is a result of Henchard s ill luck.
Throughout the novel there are many examples of Farfrae s good fortune resulting in Henchard s ill
luck. One of the most important examples in the book is when Henchard and Farfrae both gamble on
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both of these types of characterisation link in with Farfrae s good fortune and Henchard s ill luck.
Hardy creates Henchard not as an evil man but more of tragic hero. This is a person with a fatal flaw.
Henchard s main flaw is his temper. This first adds to his ill luck right at the start of the novel when he
sells Susan and his daughter in a drunken angry state. Even though this does not directly link in with
Farfrae s good fortune (as he is not present in the start of the novel) it does later on in the novel when
the furmity seller arrives back and tells the court of Henchard s secret. When Henchard admits to what
is being said by the old women all respect is lost for him and he looses his role of town mayor. When
Farfrae finally becomes mayor near the end of the novel (after the mayor after Henchard dies) his
good fortune is a result of Henchard s ill luck which is the result of his fatal flaw. Hardy also uses fate
against Henchard throughout the whole novel. An example of this is when Henchard and Farfrae both
hold a dance for the townspeople. Farfrae has his in a barn whereas Henchard s is out in the open.
When it rains on the night of the dance everyone turns out to Farfrae s even Susan and Elizabeth Jane.
This leads to Farfrae s popularity rising and Henchard s to carry on decreasing (as the dance was a

Drug Trafficking Struggles
As previously stated, the FARC one of the richest rebel movements in the world, but its difficult to
understand why although they preach about inequality and have one of the highest incomes, Colombia
still continues to experience poverty and inequality. The organization has resorted to extortion and
kidnapping in order to attain large sums of money and their illegal drug trafficking business are
extremely profiting, so where does all of their money go? Their total revenues from 1991 1999
estimated nearly U.S. $3.2 billion. They manage their investment strategies and financial institutions
outside of Colombia, by storing their money outside of the country they are able to purchase weapons
through international criminal networks (International Peace Academy Inc., 2003). I include the used

The root cause of these causalities and the continuous war is political conflict, the different points of
view and opposing political spectrums is what continues to maintain the conflict of Colombia. Now
the FARC is one of the richest and most powerful entities due to drug trafficking its quite difficult to
find a common ground with them and the Colombian government. Many peace agreements have been
drafted but had yet to be sustainable. There s a large gap that needs to be filled in response to fining an
individual who is responsible and will pay the consequences of the damages (Richani, 2013). The
problem doesn t only lie amongst the armed forces, it also lies in the government s inability to provide
what the people need. Both political stands and talks of peace are hard to unite as they tend to leave
discontent in one political party or the

Depiction Of Beauty Has On Young Girl s Individual Self...
Current Study The purpose of this study is to investigate the depiction of beauty in animated Disney
Princess movies and consequences the portrayal of beauty has on young girl s individual self esteem.
This study includes one general hypothesis. The hypothesis states that young girls who idealize the
beauty standards of Disney Princesses will have lower self esteem than young girls who do not
idealize their standard of beauty. I expected that young girls who have the desire to mimic Disney
Princesses will have lower self esteem because the beauty standards of Disney Princess are impossible
to obtain; therefore, their perception of beauty will become extremely faltered, which will lead to a
decrease in their self esteem levels and a negative perception of their body image compared to Disney
Princesses. Young girls with higher expectations regarding beauty standards, self esteems will be
negatively impacted due to the beauty goodness stereotype presented in animated Disney films, for
Disney films portray beauty over all human attributes, which skews young girl s perception of beauty
and their overall self image. This study is similar to an experiment conducted by Bazzini et al.
In Bazzini et al. study, the researchers assessed whether children can be influenced by a single
exposure to animated Disney films that are either stereotypical in its portrayal of characters or non
stereotypical in its portrayal of the physical attractiveness stereotype, and if the physical

Literacy, Schooling and Revolution, by Colin Lankshear Essay
Let us attempt to understand Lankshear s argument. My interpretation of Lankshear s position is that
he supports the idea of literacy as being best understood as a concept which comes into affect by its
application in day to day life. I further assess his statement as literacy being also considered as the
formation of ideas which forms the uses of literacy as well as creating an image to convey its use
(Lankshear, 1987, p.50). The uses of literacy may be to communicate with one another or to
participate in society by working, or to help others in need. Without the idea one can not put literacy
into use. Such ideas must make known their use, they do so by reflecting this use to the ... Show more

Thus, a literate person has more and better opportunities than the one who isn t literate. Literacy
produces good results and importance to the literate person as well as precious and valued qualities for
him/her, the illiterate person gets none of these (Lankshear, 1987, P.39).
Lankshear states a minimum of three similar misconceptions within the above views. He begins with
the concept that literacy is unitary that is it is a single thing , that is it is the same for everyone
(Lankshear,1987, p.39). He explains that literate people share (regardless of differences in their levels
of literacy) their possession of literacy, where as what illiterate people have in common is that they
don t have literacy or they have so little of it that it is regarded as negligible (Lankshear, 1987, p.39).
In this perspective literacy is seen as a technology or otherwise seen as the ability to employ the
technology of print (Lankshear, 1987, p.39). Lankshear s second description of misconception is that
literacy is a neutral process or tool, this is believed to be so due to the tendency to consider literacy to
be a skill/technology. It is considered to be neutral in the sense that it is unattached from and not
influenced by the concepts of power (Lankshear, 1987, p.40). Lankshear argues that for those who
agree to literacy being neutral, its use is differentiated from the term literacy itself

The Soldier By Rupert Brooke And Anthem For Doomed Youth...
The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Anthem for Doomed Youth by Wilfred Owen are two World War
One era sonnets, both making a comment on what it means to die in war. The two poets show very
different views on war, as both had very different experiences in war. Rupert Brooke died before he
made it to war, his poem highlights the soldier as a hero and glorifies dying in war, in contrast Wilfred
Owen shows a grittier side to death in war, as he experienced war first hand and his poem is real and
brutal. The poets make their particular views on war clear with their own uses of visual and aural
imagery and equally strong poetic voices. Both poems speak of death in war, but only Wilfred Owen s
Anthem for Doomed Youth portrays it realistically.
The two poems have very similar themes, as they both relate to war, but their overall messages are
different. Rupert Brooke s poem shies away from the actual battlefield and focuses more on the home
the soldier left behind, making the poem very patriotic and nostalgic. The voice in Brooke s poem is
both arrogant and noble, making the persona fit the archetype hero. Brooke uses the sonnet form for
its traditional use, to romanticize and glorify, and in this case Brooke is romanticizing war and dying
for your country. On the contrary Wilfred Owen spends no time trying to sugar coat war. His voice
shifts from brutal anger in the octet of the sonnet to pity in the sestet. Owen does not say that soldiers
aren t heroes, but his poem chooses to

Factors Influenced On Byatt s Works Essay
Factors influenced on Byatt s works There are several facts in Byatt s intellectual life which impacts
her fiction and nonfiction alike. Nevertheless, the supreme one that constituted the central number of
her works remains the influence of one particular Cambridge teacher and literary critic: Franklin
Raymond Leavis (1895 1978) who shaped Byatt s view on the moral importance of literature. It stands
worth to talk about him, because he not only influenced directly A.S Byatt on the other hand, he
formed the entire course of Angelo American 20th century literary criticism, an understanding of
which is vital to read Byatt s fiction. In an autobiographical gesture, her fictions often send their

Leavis, his wife Q.D. (Known as Queenie ) and their circle, which included such critics as I, A,

imagine Leavis as a radical, since he is so often critiqued for his exclusive and special judgments.
However, consider the shape of university life as it was found and then rejected by Leaves when he

his opinions and rebels nature he faced severe criticism and he suffered official persecution,

few of these theories that are farther reaching than individual choice and genetic makeup. These three
theories indicate that people can literally be a product of their environment.
The sociological theory suggests that the majority of people will conform to the community with
which they are living. The family and educational structure can influence and even foretell a person s
inclination towards crime. For example, if a person lives in a community where the schools,
neighborhoods, and other businesses and organizations are thriving economically and socially with
order then the person will do the same. The person will be more likely to act in a way that is cohesive
with the rest of the community. However, if the same organizations for any reason due to social or
economic factors, suffer negative impact and disorder that the same person in that community will
ultimately turn to negative solutions or crime for survival within the community.
The social conflict theories suggest that the conflict between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The two key social process theories are the learning theory and the control theory. The learning theory
simply states that criminal activity is a learned behavior (Gaines and Miller, 2014) An individual
grows up in a family and community that frequently engages in crime, then so will the individual. The
control theory holds that although we all have the potential to commit crimes, most of us are
dissuaded from doing so because we care about the opinions of our family and peers (Gaines and
Miller, 2014) Simply put, a broken down community or even a familial support system that
encourages criminal behavior is more likely to produce a

How Does Liam O Flaherty Use Irony In The Sniper
In The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty, it explores the idea that in war, people are actually killing their
brothers. This theme is portrayed through the use of irony and imagery. Initially, the author uses death
imagery to emphasize the scene of the story, with the machine gunner s head hanging lifelessly over
the turret. The woman s corpse lay still in the gutter. This quote gives the reader a visualization of the
street in the story where everything is lifeless, silent and depressing. The significance of the quote is
that due to war the sniper had to kill the woman and the man, and did so without having a feeling of
remorse, and sadness while killing them or upon seeing they re dead bodies lie lifelessly on the street.
In addition, these people

Essay On A Christmas Carol
A Christmas Carol
Do you ever feel like people change? In A Christmas Carol, written by Charles Dickens, Scrooge is a
grouchy, unsocial, miserly, uncharitable old man. He is extremely unsympathetic and bah humbugs
everything to do with Christmas. On Christmas Eve, Scrooge is magically visited by 3 ghosts. The
ghost of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Scrooge has a rude awakening of haunting memories he
holds onto. These memories make him feeling as if he needs a second chance and a fresh start at life.
What better day than Christmas to tidy the dreaded past. The mysterious ghosts bring him to the past,
present and future in one night. Scrooge had remarkable experiences and felt emotions he had never
thought were possible to feel again. Scrooge longed for a new future because of these experiences.
Therefore, I believe that Scrooge changed in the play because of the ghostly visits, his aching heart for
Tiny Tim and the relief that he could have a second chance at life. The ghost of Christmas past
brought Scrooge to the past and reminisced. Scrooge began to see what a lovely and good hearted
human he used to be. Scrooge could not bare to look at the flashbacks because he became disgraced of
himself. Scrooge began to blame the ghost of Christmas past for making him feel so incredibly
mortified. Secondly, the ghost of Christmas present and Scrooge set forth to the Cratchit s home. As
Scrooge looks in on the Cratchit s Christmas Eve supper, he realizes how Mrs. Cratchit

Students Should Be Taught In Schools
With the results of the wonderful benefits it provides, it brings a question to mind; what do these
teaching methods do that benefit our education? As a future educator and being in a school where
these practices and techniques have been implemented, to me I feel that this teaching style has a huge
impacted on how students should be taught. I believe that this trend should be continued to be used in
all schools because this process really dives into the fundamentals of teaching. It also gets the students
involved with their education and in my opinion, that creates an environment where the students can
take control of their learning and they can be accountable for their education. I believe some schools

Since the bond between students and teachers is stronger and students feel more safe and comfortable
in their environment, then they will be more willing to seek help. Gina Badalaty, has two daughters
who have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), multiple learning disabilities and speech language

was nervous for what would come. To summarize Badalaty s experience with the new changes at her
daughter s school, she said, ...they are both performing exceptionally well at age appropriate
academics. Most importantly, they actually enjoy school, doing their coursework, and seeing their
friends. I m convinced that responsive classroom is an educational approach that benefits teachers,
students, and parents by creating an inclusive atmosphere in which children can learn and thrive
(Badalaty). From Gina Badalaty s experience, it is easy to see that the teaching approach in which
schools use to promote learning is benefiting children in many ways. Students with dyslexia and
dyscalculia also can benefit immensely from the responsive teaching approach. Dyslexic students can
benefit from active teaching since the teacher presents first and then explains what was just presented.
With this students with dyslexia have more time to organize, prioritize and filter new information
(Stevens). Students with dyscalculia can really benefit from the student practice, instructor guided part
of responsive teaching. Here students with dyscalculia can use manipulatives, have more space to
write out problems and even be able to talk out the problem (Morin). Students with ADHD can also
benefit from this learning style. Teachers that have students with ADHD can simplify the instructions
and can post classroom rules on the wall so it is very clear what is expected of them (Weaver

Walmart has faced heavy scrutiny in the past decade due to prevalent controversy surrounding their

Government And Societal Ideas From The 19th Century
Government and Societal Ideas from the 19th Century During the 19th Century, three prominent
thinkers John Stuart Mill, Giuseppe Mazzini, and Karl Marx had their own ideas of an ideal society.
These individuals had their own unique view of the perfect society. However, they all have something
in common with their visions: all of these excerpts discussed an oppressive entity. In all of the three
ideal societies concocted by these men, tyrannical governments or oppressive societies are obstacles to
their visions. In the excerpt from John Stuart Mill s On Liberty, he discusses the imperfection of
democracy. He states that democracy was only a perfect system when it was still a dream and not a
reality. His reason for this imperfection is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, it is citizen s duty to protect their rights from the oppressive shadow of the opinions of the
majority. In the second excerpt, taken from his essay, The Duties of Man, Mazzini discusses the means
for an ideal society. He says that for an ideal society to exist the people living in said society must
work towards unification and nationalism. Mazzini states that man s primary duty should be towards
humanity and his their country. He said that this is what God originally intended as a part of his
Divine Design . He also says that this design God intended was corrupted by greedy and oppressive
Monarchies. Evidence of this can be taken from The Duties of Man, They have disfigured it by their
conquests, their greed, and their jealousy even of the righteous power of others; disfigured it so far
that, if we except England and France, there is not perhaps a single country whose present boundaries
correspond to that design (Mazzini 1860). He later says the countries of unified people, defined by the
vote of free men, will rise from the ruins of traditional monarchies and that there will be harmony
between this nations. For Mazzini s ideal society to exist people must make it their duty to follow God
s Divine Plan. He expresses this in The Duties of Man, Our Country is our common workshop,

Untested Rape Boxs
Recent events revealed earlier this year have brought to light the massive backlog of untested rape
kits. An increased public awareness of this backlog and approved funding has moved the issue from
the back burner.
While the effort of processing the backlog of rape kits is noble and of great public interest it may leave
some questioning the benefits that this testing provides to the survivors of sexual assault and the
general public.
In 2014 an estimated 2,700 untested rape kits in Utah were being submitted for processing. Some kits
dating back to as early as 1999.
The discovery of the backlog pushed lawmakers to fund the testing of these forgotten kits. And in
2014 Lawmakers approved $750,000 to begin the processing of the kits. ... Show more content on

Of those 767 kits submitted to the lab 586 have been processed to date.
But, as reported by the Salt Lake Police Department, of the 586 processed kits 89 of the matches led to
63 possible investigations. Twelve of those 63 cases were submitted to the Salt Lake District Attorney
for further review and out of those, seven were denied. The remaining five cases led to three
perpetrators being incarcerated. The remaining two are thought to have fled the country.
The general public, as well as some survivors of sexual assault may feel as if testing the rape kits will
remove rapists from their communities and put them where they belong. However, with statistics
being so low it brings up the question of whether quicker return times on processed kits would aid in a
greater amount of charges being filed, or if testing all of the rape kits would even be beneficial?
According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse Incest National Network) the benefits of having a sexual assault
exam done increases the chances of a perpetrator being identified. DNA evidence can also hold up in
court better and is more likely to lead to charges being filed. And finally, the collected DNA evidence
is added to the FBI database CODIS (Combined DNA Index System). So if a perpetrator is not

Abstract:
The primary goal of our experiment is to construct an automated house that will be more energy
efficient than an average house. SmartWindows that will automatically close and adjust to conform
with any outside conditions. Our primary motivation is from the huge amount of domestic power that
is lost every year, which can become a large sum when converted to money. As personal victims of
this unfortunate monetary loss, finding and developing a solution to this problem prompted this
investigation and subsequent experiment. The experimenting process is fairly simple but will take an
extended period of time through two phases: construction and experimentation. First the model house
must be constructed from balsa wood blocks and held together by a combination of glue and staples.
Then the windows will be constructed, with plexiglass substituting for glass Next, the actual window
opening apparatus must be created in AutoDesk Inventor before being 3D printed. This apparatus will
be connected to the Arduino module, which will be programmed to control the functions of the house
and making sure everything runs effectively and efficiently. The windows are our primary focus and
will be the most important improvement but more may be

Essay on Collins Theory of Intersectionality
Intersectionality according to Patricia Hill Collins is the theory of the relationship between race,
gender and class (1990), also known as the matrix of domination (2000). This matrix shows that there
is no one way to understand the complex nature of how gender, race and class inequalities within
women s lives can be separated; for they are intertwined within each other. Gender order according to
our text is labeled as hierarchal (2008), stating that Men dominate women in terms of wealth, power,
and social position, but not all men dominate all women (2008). While this may be true, it is creating a
divide between the two genders. This divide is apparent by looking at the pay scales between men and

Our text notes that However, no one person is completely oppressed or completely privileged (2008).
This is a completely true statement, and it coincides with the theory of intersectionality because
everyone regardless of your gender, race, or class; had been at one point or another been oppressed by
someone or something. The class inequality has been an issue for quite some time; the levels of this
are the elite, middle, and lower class tiers. But even within these three major tiers, there are sub tiers,
but mostly within the United States, society tends to rate women within the Middle to Lower class.
This is true within the professional world of women, seeing as how they are considered on the weaker,
lower class tier, Collins refers to an outsider within status (1986), which exists with one is located on
the boundary between two groups statuses one with potential power and the other with little power

audience s reasoning. Catt uses logos by discussing the hypocrisy of the founding fathers, who left

women are denied suffrage. Not one American has arisen to question their logic in 141 years ( Catt

Analysis Of Dirtwork In EuripidesThe Bacchae

Dirtwork in Euripides The Bacchae
The Bacchae represent the irrational aspects of religion, and this is neither simply reverent or
irreverent toward religion. The play, The Bacchae can easily be interpreted as a cautionary tale about
the dangers of neglecting worship or as a cautionary tale about the dangers of placing too much trust
in human rationality. If the play s main intent was to describe the dangers of neglecting worship or to
describe the dangers of relying heavily of human rationality, then Bacchae would not be portrayed
negatively. I will argue that these interpretations, while true to some degree, are oversimplifications of
the message that Euripides conveys, and that a stronger interpretation is that the play is commentary
on the human struggle to harmonize our desire to individuate and our desire to unify. The play
describes the conflict between Pentheus need to define boundaries and the Bacchae s desire to
eliminate boundaries. Pentheus and the
Bacchae show what occurs when one desire overpowers the other. The conflict between
Pentheus and the Bacchae is an external representation of the internal conflict between the two needs,
that we observe in characters like Pentheus.
The Bacchae represent an irrational aspect of religion because they are portrayed as victims of
groupthink. The Bacchae do not think for themselves, and reject the idea of thinking for themselves.
This is shown here when the Bacchae chorus sings, A tongue

maybe even more so for the first Alice book, Alice s Adventures in Wonderland. The connection

His hope that it might be of real service to the young, and be taken up, in High Schools and in private

His love of chess and card games is apparent in his Alice books; each contains characters that are
portrayed by cards or pieces in a chess game. The two books, especially Through the Looking Glass,
are rich in mathematical humor. In the latter, Alice takes a journey into the reversed world behind the

Good And Evil Characters In The Disney Film Mulan
For my fairy tale I chose the Disney film Mulan. I chose Mulan because it is an entertaining movie
that delivers a good moral lesson. Mulan has your classic characters, the hero, the evil villain, but
Mulan also pays homage and respect to the sacred spirits of her people. In this paper I will discuss
Mulan s story of courage, prayer, and determination. I will cover some important symbolism, imagery,
and messages found within the film. I will also identify good and evil characters in the film and their
respective roles in the movie.
Mulan
The story of Mulan was inspired by an ancient Chinese ballad from the Song Dynasty, called the
Ballad of Mulan (ancientstandard.com). In the movie Mulan s homeland is being attacked by The
Huns. Everyone is here village is afraid and begins to gearing up for an imminent war. Every family is
required to provide a member from their respective families to help defend themselves against the
invading Huns. Mulan s father is the only male in her family and decides he must fight and defend his
village against their approaching enemy. The problem is he is old and has previous war wounds that
makes his chances of surviving such a war is unlikely. Recently rejected by her matchmaker and
potential husband Mulan decides to disguise herself as a male and represent her family in her father s
place. This decision leads Mulan on an uncertain and dangerous journey that teaches her and the
movie viewers many valuable lessons.
The Sacred
Before Mulan heads to war she prays to her deceased ancestors for protection on her journey. The term
used for praying to ancestors is called ancestor veneration (religionfacts.com). Prayers to ancestors is
based on the belief that family members who have died have an interest in present life. These
ancestors possess the ability to influence what happens in the lives of their family members still on
earth. Mulan and her family seek the guidance from their ancestors throughout the movie. Mulan s
ancestors grant her protection and a small dragon named Mushu who they communicate with in
regards to Mulan s best interest. Mulan reverenced the spirits of her ancestors in the same way people
reverence God, Allah, and other god like entities.

The Recovery Of Residual Oil From Reservoirs
Introduction
The recovery of residual oil from reservoirs is one of the major challenges faced by petroleum
industries. Based on the requirement of heat, EOR techniques have been divided into cold and hot
(thermal) recovery methods. Cold methods such as CHOPS, water / polymer flooding, microbial
injection, etc. doesn t require any additional heat which saves the cost of heat generation. On other
hand thermal methods like SAGD, CSS, steam flooding, fire flooding, etc. require more temperature
which results in higher recovery of oil. Even though, the technique of heating the formation through
low / high frequency resistive heaters have been recognised 3 decades ago, but it is still a peripheral
technology for EOR. Despite in the advancement of different EOR techniques, none of them have
proven to be economic, less energy exhaustive, and environment friendly.
Recently, Novas Energy Services have developed a tool that creates dense plasma when subjected to
high voltage up to few hundred Volts and propagate it inside the formation through elastic waves. The
produced plasma is not only utilized for cleaning bottom hole zone, but also used for enhancing
reservoir permeability and crude s flow ability. But due to inadequate sample of equipment for
generating plasma pulse, this tool is only used for pilot field experiments.
In this technical paper, a theoretical design of wire line CO2 plasma generating device is proposed
along with the blueprint of the mechanism of its execution.

Gawain, and he s upset with himself. Consequently, he got hacked in the neck on the third swing.
Afterwards, he returned to the court instantly, disheartened and head hung low, knowing he didn t
display the values of Christianity and the of the Round Table. The entire story of Sir Gawain and the
Green Knight is to show how men are tested to see if they truly hold the Christian values of courage,
honesty, and chivalry. The story however, is based on paganistic

Virtual Reality is an Alternate World
Virtual Reality is an Alternate World
Computers are a very important part of everyday life. They are used in homes, workplaces, schools,
and many other institutions. Today computers aid in research, calculation, organization, and provide
numerous additional applications. Computers can literally even take us to other worlds and different
realms of reality by a concept referred to as virtual reality. Virtual reality, or simply VR, is a system
that allows one or various users to engage in a computer created world that is sensitive to the user s
sight, hearing, and touch. It can also be referred to as an interaction between one or more users and the
computer accompanied by the use of special VR interface devices. Users are allowed to move ... Show

The helmet is equipped with a tracking device that sits on top of it. This device signals the user s head
movements to an additional stationary tracking device. As the user moves his or her head, the
computer continually updates the simulation to reflect the new location and perspective. Head
mounted displays are often favored because they totally immerse the user in the simulation, but they
weigh several pounds and are usually expensive.
The BOOM is another kind of VR environment. BOOM stands for binocular omni orientation
monitor. It is similar to the head mounted display, but requires no helmet. Instead, there is a viewing
box suspended from a rotating arm. The user places his or her forehead against the BOOM s viewing
eyeglasses to see the screen. The user can change the viewing perspective by grabbing the handlebars
on the side of the viewing box, and rotating it to the desired position. The user can move in a full
circle and can also bend down to view objects. Control buttons on the handlebars usually serve as an
interface, or other interface devices can be used in conjunction with BOOM including earphones and
data gloves.
Finally, the Cave is the latest form of the virtual environment and is also the most immersive. The user
steps into a 10 by 10 by 9 foot darkened cubicle and puts on a special pair of glasses called Crystal
Eyes shuttering glasses. During simulation, stereoscopic images are projected on the walls and floor of

Stephen Jay Gould Sex Drugs Disasters And The Extinction...
Dinosaurs ruled the earth for over 65 million years and thankfully for the human race, they became
extinct. Ultimately, only a major catastrophe could completely wipe out an entire species, let alone an
entity of dinosaurs and the debacle on the causes of dinosaur extinction have flooded the minds of
paleontologists for centuries. Geologist and zoologist Stephen Jay Gould published Sex, Drugs,
Disasters, and the Extinction of Dinosaurs, to compare scientific and speculative causes of dinosaur
decimation. Personally, I found this passage very informational and enjoyed reading it. Gould
provides three theories that capture the reader s curiosity, allowing room for pondering in one s mind.
Defining science in his own words, Gould states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the passage, he tells the readers that two of these theories are speculation and the
other is pure science but each one is hard to dismiss. Testicular malfunction, the first example, cannot
provide enough evidence to support this theory, solely because a paleontologist cannot extract samples
and information from a fossil and simply because testicles do not fossilize. The scientists proving this
theory, E. H. Colbert for an example, admitted that testicular malfunction is just a hypothesis.
Therefore, Gould believes that this theory is merely unusable, but not as disadvantageous as
psychoactive overdosing. Drug overdosing, like sex, can not be tested because again, like testicles,
livers do not fossilize. In addition, there is also not enough evidence to prove this theory explicable,
thus becoming another speculation proposal. Consequently, the theory of asteroidal zapping is the
exponential scientific reasoning for dinosaur extinction. This theory can be proven by Luis and Walter
Alvarez, a father son geologist team, who became the first to propose the idea of asteroidal collision.
The father and son duo collected sediment samples from deep in the Earth s core in which they found
extremely high amounts of iridium. Iridium is a highly testable chemical, therefore allowing the
theory of asteroid and earth collision to be plausible. Gould s final analysis proposes that asteroidal
collision is the most scientific theory among the three. The author believes the asteroid colliding with
earth and changing its temperatures allowed for evolution to happen. In summary, Gould distinctly
and carefully analyzes the three theories, showing his reasoning for his scientific

Leo Tolstoy Civil Disobedience
Civil disobedience is an old philosophy from the Greeks, but it has been used all over the world and
throughout history. Civil disobedience is a legal norm, to be obeyed. Socrates was a Greek
philosopher who was involved in civil disobedience. Socrates came up with the original idea of, civil
disobedience. About two thousand years later, Henry David Thoreau, defends the idea that passive
resistance is a right and duty of democratic citizens (Summa). More recent events that have led to civil
disobedience would include Martin Luther King Jr. civil rights demonstrations in the South during the
1960 s. He had a charge against him for parading without a permit. Civil disobedience took place in a
variety of different places, for Leo Tolstoy it

with my love for soccer, I ve been playing since I was in fourth grade, and I feel like soccer changed
my life and is something that makes my parents proud of me, which means a lot to me. Soccer isn t the
only thing that I love. Math has been my favorite since sixth grade, but debating .Is what interests
most people. So many people have told me that I should consider becoming a lawyer because of my
debating skills, to the point where I am considering it, alongside becoming a doctor. But let s rewind
back to how I define myself, and that leads to the topic of family. I have been blessed with a caring

Dramatism Review on Revenge
Dramatism Review on Revenge
The Golden Globe nominated television show Revenge, debuted in 2010. Revenge was produced and
created by Mike Kelly. The drama television series is about Emily Thorne who is really Amanda
Clarke, whose father was framed for treason when she was a little girl. After a lengthy trial, he was
imprisoned for life, and was murdered in prison by the agents who framed him. She has now returned
to the Hamptons as an adult to get revenge on those who wronged her father. Not only is Revenge
entertaining it also pushes the norm to see how far you will go for someone you love. I will dissect
this television series into five different elements act, agent(s), agency, scene, and purpose. In Revenge
the act is Emily pushing for revenge against the Grayson s. The agent is Emily Thorne (Amanda
Clarke). The agency is her background on the Grayson s, Nolan Ross, and her background in martial
arts. Nolan Ross is basically her sidekick and guardian angel. He keeps her grounded and watches her
back. He keeps her on track and points out her options. The scene is set in the Hamptons with Emily
planning her revenge against the people who wronged her father. Family, honor, duty, and love
(Amanda goal is to clear her father and she shows no bounds for which she will go to do this) are the
purpose for this show. After watching this series I believe that the dominant elements are the purpose
and agent. Without the purpose of her trying to clear her father s name the

Comparison Of Ferdinand And Isabella Of Spain
Before the accession of Ferdinand and Isabella, Spain was fragmented into four different kingdoms;
Castile, Aragon, Navarre and Granada. They married in 1469 before either was on the throne but by
the death of King Henry IV, Isabella took the crown for Castile this in turn meant that the two
kingdoms became untied both Ferdinand and Isabella ruled in unison, this is uncommon as it was
supposed to one monarch, however the way they ruled together made them very successful. Their
motto being Tanto monta, monta tanto (They amount to the same). One of their main goals was to
enact administrative reforms. Firstly the Santa Hermandad (Holy Brotherhood) were set up in 1476
and took the role of police and judicial enactors. They also made a strict

The Battle Of Luzon And The Pacific Theater
The Battle of Luzon, fought in the Pacific Theater in early 1945, is remembered as the World War Two
battle which had the highest net casualties. After Luzon, the largest island of the Philippines, was
captured by the Japanese in 1942, General MacArthur believed that it was extremely important to
recapture it. This took some time, but in 1944, a new campaign to recapture the Philippines was
created. The campaign started with attacks on Leyte and Mindoro, which prepared for Luzon. The US,
working together with the Commonwealth of the Philippines, successfully used multifaceted assault
tactics including the use of air force, naval, and ground troops to advance from the Lingayen Gulf to
the capital city of Manila. After the capture of Manila, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Allied troops encountered many Japanese kamikaze planes which destroyed some warships,
the Allied Air Force successfully supported their troops on the ground. While the Sixth Army landed
more troops on the beach, the I Corps protected them and advanced eastward, and the XIV Corps
moved south toward Manila. Because of central Luzon s geographical features mostly open plains the
XIV Corps was able to quickly advance toward Manila. Around this time, another amphibious landing
of the Eighth Army occurred to the south of Manila. From there, the 11th Airborne Division also
advanced on Manila. While the XIV Corps was advancing southward, the I Corps switched to
defending their left flank. Meanwhile, General Yamashita had his strongest forces deployed in north
Luzon and around the Clark Air Base. However, the Japanese were disorganized because of lack of
communications and were not prepared for many US attacks. On their southward journey, when the
XIV Corps reached Clark Air Base, they battled for control until it was captured on January 29, which
also gave the US more supplies found within the base. Following this, the XIV Corps pushed towards
Manila and started the attack on January 31 from the north and south of the city. On February 4th the
11th Airborne Division advanced into the city, but met strong Japanese defences. They pushed through
and finished capturing the defences on February 11th, and

Essay on Solar Energy
Solar Energy
Solar energy is the most ancient kind of energy found on earth, for it is as old as the sun. quot;Solar
quot; means from the sun. The earth is only one of the many planets which is bathed in the sun s
overflowing energy. Every second the world receives 95.8 trillion watts of power...just think about that
for a minute. Think about how much power the earth just received in the time it took you to read this
sentence? It is well beyond the amount of power used in one day. It has the potential to satisfy all our
energy needs forever without ever having to use the pollutive fossil fuels ever again. quot; The
problem however, does not lie in the limited source, as do fossil fuels, but in harnessing ... Show more

In the 1690 s an Italian scientist invented a solar furnace that was so hot it could shatter a diamond,
one of the hardest substances on earth (Asimov 119).
The real question around the beginning of the 19th century concerning solar energy was quot;could
the sun produce electricity directly? quot; The main motivation behind this desire was that electricity
could be stored in a battery, and used later. It would not be necessary to use the device in the sunlight.
All inventions failed, until Frank Shuman, an engineer from Pennsylvania finally made a
breakthrough. He built an experimental plant that used black troughs covered in glass with a few
inches of water. When exposed to the sun, the water got very hot, causing it to circulate and power an
electric generator. His data was so convincing that he got financial backers and built the world s first
solar electric power plant in Egypt. However, the Eastern Sun Power Company went out of business
even though it was using free fuel. It didn t produce enough electricity for the area that it used, 14,000
sq. ft of sun collecting land (Zweibel 48).
In 1954 Bell Laboratories invented the first photovoltaic (or solar) cell, made from the semi conductor
silicon, and other elements. It was the first way to convert sunlight directly into electricity. When the
space program was launched in the 60 s, it

Psycho killers are driven by a desire to kill that is often sexual and causes them to murder strangers and it is imperative to determine what makes a serial killer so distinct from homicidal murderers. It has been proved that genetics is the key role in determining who becomes a serial killer while criminologists and psychologists argue that abuse and abandonment create the foundation in which serial killers grow into vicious murders. • 10. The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy Essay The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy Thomas Hardy wrote the novel The Mayor of Casterbridge in 1886. Two of the main characters, Donald Farfrae and Michael Henchard have a contrast in luck and Hardy uses characterisation, language, historical and social background and a craft in the structure of his novel to help bring across this point. During this essay I am going to comment upon how Hardy does this and further consider the view that, Farfrae s good fortune is a result of Henchard s ill luck. Throughout the novel there are many examples of Farfrae s good fortune resulting in Henchard s ill luck. One of the most important examples in the book is when Henchard and Farfrae both gamble on ... This first adds to his ill luck right at the start of the novel when he sells Susan and his daughter in a drunken angry state. Even though this does not directly link in with Farfrae s good fortune (as he is not present in the start of the novel) it does later on in the novel when the furmity seller arrives back and tells the court of Henchard s secret. When Henchard admits to what is being said by the old women all respect is lost for him and he looses his role of town mayor. When Farfrae finally becomes mayor near the end of the novel (after the mayor after Henchard dies) his good fortune is a result of Henchard s ill luck which is the result of his fatal flaw. Hardy also uses fate against Henchard throughout the whole novel. An example of this is when Henchard and Farfrae both hold a dance for the townspeople. Farfrae has his in a barn whereas Henchard s is out in the open. When it rains on the night of the dance everyone turns out to Farfrae s even Susan and Elizabeth Jane. Current Study The purpose of this study is to investigate the depiction of beauty in animated Disney Princess movies and consequences the portrayal of beauty has on young girl s individual self esteem. This study includes one general hypothesis. The hypothesis states that young girls who idealize the beauty standards of Disney Princesses will have lower self esteem than young girls who do not idealize their standard of beauty. I expected that young girls who have the desire to mimic Disney Princesses will have lower self esteem because the beauty standards of Disney Princess are impossible to obtain; therefore, their perception of beauty will become extremely faltered, which will lead to a decrease in their self esteem levels and a negative perception of their body image compared to Disney Princesses. Young girls with higher expectations regarding beauty standards, self esteems will be negatively impacted due to the beauty goodness stereotype presented in animated Disney films, for Disney films portray beauty over all human attributes, which skews young girl s perception of beauty and their overall self image. This study is similar to an experiment conducted by Bazzini et al. My interpretation of Lankshear s position is that he supports the idea of literacy as being best understood as a concept which comes into affect by its application in day to day life. I further assess his statement as literacy being also considered as the formation of ideas which forms the uses of literacy as well as creating an image to convey its use (Lankshear, 1987, p.50). The uses of literacy may be to communicate with one another or to participate in society by working, or to help others in need. Without the idea one can not put literacy into use. Thus, a literate person has more and better opportunities than the one who isn t literate. Literacy produces good results and importance to the literate person as well as precious and valued qualities for him/her, the illiterate person gets none of these (Lankshear, 1987, P.39). Lankshear states a minimum of three similar misconceptions within the above views. He begins with the concept that literacy is unitary that is it is a single thing , that is it is the same for everyone (Lankshear,1987, p.39). He explains that literate people share (regardless of differences in their levels of literacy) their possession of literacy, where as what illiterate people have in common is that they don t have literacy or they have so little of it that it is regarded as negligible (Lankshear, 1987, p.39). In this perspective literacy is seen as a technology or otherwise seen as the ability to employ the technology of print (Lankshear, 1987, p.39). Lankshear s second description of misconception is that literacy is a neutral process or tool, this is believed to be so due to the tendency to consider literacy to be a skill/technology. It is considered to be neutral in the sense that it is unattached from and not influenced by the concepts of power (Lankshear, 1987, p.40). The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Anthem for Doomed Youth by Wilfred Owen are two World War One era sonnets, both making a comment on what it means to die in war. The two poets show very different views on war, as both had very different experiences in war. Rupert Brooke died before he made it to war, his poem highlights the soldier as a hero and glorifies dying in war, in contrast Wilfred Owen shows a grittier side to death in war, as he experienced war first hand and his poem is real and brutal. The poets make their particular views on war clear with their own uses of visual and aural imagery and equally strong poetic voices. Both poems speak of death in war, but only Wilfred Owen s Anthem for Doomed Youth portrays it realistically. The two poems have very similar themes, as they both relate to war, but their overall messages are different. Rupert Brooke s poem shies away from the actual battlefield and focuses more on the home the soldier left behind, making the poem very patriotic and nostalgic. The voice in Brooke s poem is both arrogant and noble, making the persona fit the archetype hero. Brooke uses the sonnet form for its traditional use, to romanticize and glorify, and in this case Brooke is romanticizing war and dying for your country. There are a few of these theories that are farther reaching than individual choice and genetic makeup. These three theories indicate that people can literally be a product of their environment. From Gina Badalaty s experience, it is easy to see that the teaching approach in which schools use to promote learning is benefiting children in many ways. Students with dyslexia and dyscalculia also can benefit immensely from the responsive teaching approach. Dyslexic students can benefit from active teaching since the teacher presents first and then explains what was just presented. With this students with dyslexia have more time to organize, prioritize and filter new information (Stevens). Students with dyscalculia can really benefit from the student practice, instructor guided part of responsive teaching. Here students with dyscalculia can use manipulatives, have more space to write out problems and even be able to talk out the problem (Morin). Students with ADHD can also benefit from this learning style. Teachers that have students with ADHD can simplify the instructions and can post classroom rules on the wall so it is very clear what is expected of them (Weaver ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Government And Societal Ideas From The 19th Century Government and Societal Ideas from the 19th Century During the 19th Century, three prominent thinkers John Stuart Mill, Giuseppe Mazzini, and Karl Marx had their own ideas of an ideal society. In all of the three ideal societies concocted by these men, tyrannical governments or oppressive societies are obstacles to their visions. He says that for an ideal society to exist the people living in said society must work towards unification and nationalism. Mazzini states that man s primary duty should be towards humanity and his their country. He said that this is what God originally intended as a part of his Divine Design . He also says that this design God intended was corrupted by greedy and oppressive Monarchies. Evidence of this can be taken from The Duties of Man, They have disfigured it by their conquests, their greed, and their jealousy even of the righteous power of others; disfigured it so far that, if we except England and France, there is not perhaps a single country whose present boundaries correspond to that design (Mazzini 1860). He later says the countries of unified people, defined by the vote of free men, will rise from the ruins of traditional monarchies and that there will be harmony between this nations. An increased public awareness of this backlog and approved funding has moved the issue from the back burner. In 2014 an estimated 2,700 untested rape kits in Utah were being submitted for processing. Some kits dating back to as early as 1999. Our primary motivation is from the huge amount of domestic power that is lost every year, which can become a large sum when converted to money. As personal victims of this unfortunate monetary loss, finding and developing a solution to this problem prompted this investigation and subsequent experiment. The experimenting process is fairly simple but will take an extended period of time through two phases: construction and experimentation. First the model house must be constructed from balsa wood blocks and held together by a combination of glue and staples. Then the windows will be constructed, with plexiglass substituting for glass Next, the actual window opening apparatus must be created in AutoDesk Inventor before being 3D printed. This apparatus will be connected to the Arduino module, which will be programmed to control the functions of the house and making sure everything runs effectively and efficiently. The play, The Bacchae can easily be interpreted as a cautionary tale about the dangers of neglecting worship or as a cautionary tale about the dangers of placing too much trust in human rationality. If the play s main intent was to describe the dangers of neglecting worship or to describe the dangers of relying heavily of human rationality, then Bacchae would not be portrayed negatively. I will argue that these interpretations, while true to some degree, are oversimplifications of the message that Euripides conveys, and that a stronger interpretation is that the play is commentary on the human struggle to harmonize our desire to individuate and our desire to unify. The play describes the conflict between Pentheus need to define boundaries and the Bacchae s desire to eliminate boundaries. Pentheus and the Bacchae show what occurs when one desire overpowers the other. The conflict between Pentheus and the Bacchae is an external representation of the internal conflict between the two needs, that we observe in characters like Pentheus. Based on the requirement of heat, EOR techniques have been divided into cold and hot (thermal) recovery methods. Cold methods such as CHOPS, water / polymer flooding, microbial injection, etc. doesn t require any additional heat which saves the cost of heat generation. On other hand thermal methods like SAGD, CSS, steam flooding, fire flooding, etc. require more temperature which results in higher recovery of oil. Even though, the technique of heating the formation through low / high frequency resistive heaters have been recognised 3 decades ago, but it is still a peripheral technology for EOR. Despite in the advancement of different EOR techniques, none of them have proven to be economic, less energy exhaustive, and environment friendly. At the beginning of the passage, he tells the readers that two of these theories are speculation and the other is pure science but each one is hard to dismiss. Testicular malfunction, the first example, cannot provide enough evidence to support this theory, solely because a paleontologist cannot extract samples and information from a fossil and simply because testicles do not fossilize. The scientists proving this theory, E. H. Colbert for an example, admitted that testicular malfunction is just a hypothesis. Therefore, Gould believes that this theory is merely unusable, but not as disadvantageous as psychoactive overdosing. Drug overdosing, like sex, can not be tested because again, like testicles, livers do not fossilize. In addition, there is also not enough evidence to prove this theory explicable, thus becoming another speculation proposal. Consequently, the theory of asteroidal zapping is the exponential scientific reasoning for dinosaur extinction. This theory can be proven by Luis and Walter Alvarez, a father son geologist team, who became the first to propose the idea of asteroidal collision. The father and son duo collected sediment samples from deep in the Earth s core in which they found extremely high amounts of iridium. Iridium is a highly testable chemical, therefore allowing the theory of asteroid and earth collision to be plausible. Gould s final analysis proposes that asteroidal collision is the most scientific theory among the three. The author believes the asteroid colliding with earth and changing its temperatures allowed for evolution to happen. • 45. Dramatism Review on Revenge Dramatism Review on Revenge The Golden Globe nominated television show Revenge, debuted in 2010. Revenge was produced and created by Mike Kelly. The drama television series is about Emily Thorne who is really Amanda Clarke, whose father was framed for treason when she was a little girl. After a lengthy trial, he was imprisoned for life, and was murdered in prison by the agents who framed him. She has now returned to the Hamptons as an adult to get revenge on those who wronged her father. Not only is Revenge entertaining it also pushes the norm to see how far you will go for someone you love. I will dissect this television series into five different elements act, agent(s), agency, scene, and purpose. In Revenge the act is Emily pushing for revenge against the Grayson s. The agent is Emily Thorne (Amanda Clarke). The agency is her background on the Grayson s, Nolan Ross, and her background in martial arts. Nolan Ross is basically her sidekick and guardian angel. He keeps her grounded and watches her back. He keeps her on track and points out her options. The scene is set in the Hamptons with Emily planning her revenge against the people who wronged her father. Family, honor, duty, and love (Amanda goal is to clear her father and she shows no bounds for which she will go to do this) are the purpose for this show. After watching this series I believe that the dominant elements are the purpose and agent. Without the purpose of her trying to clear her father s name the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Comparison Of Ferdinand And Isabella Of Spain Before the accession of Ferdinand and Isabella, Spain was fragmented into four different kingdoms; Castile, Aragon, Navarre and Granada. They married in 1469 before either was on the throne but by the death of King Henry IV, Isabella took the crown for Castile this in turn meant that the two kingdoms became untied both Ferdinand and Isabella ruled in unison, this is uncommon as it was supposed to one monarch, however the way they ruled together made them very successful. Their motto being Tanto monta, monta tanto (They amount to the same). One of their main goals was to enact administrative reforms. Firstly the Santa Hermandad (Holy Brotherhood) were set up in 1476 and took the role of police and judicial enactors. They also made a strict ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Battle Of Luzon And The Pacific Theater The Battle of Luzon, fought in the Pacific Theater in early 1945, is remembered as the World War Two battle which had the highest net casualties. After Luzon, the largest island of the Philippines, was captured by the Japanese in 1942, General MacArthur believed that it was extremely important to recapture it. This took some time, but in 1944, a new campaign to recapture the Philippines was created. The campaign started with attacks on Leyte and Mindoro, which prepared for Luzon. The US, working together with the Commonwealth of the Philippines, successfully used multifaceted assault tactics including the use of air force, naval, and ground troops to advance from the Lingayen Gulf to the capital city of Manila. After the capture of Manila, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Allied troops encountered many Japanese kamikaze planes which destroyed some warships, the Allied Air Force successfully supported their troops on the ground. While the Sixth Army landed more troops on the beach, the I Corps protected them and advanced eastward, and the XIV Corps moved south toward Manila. Because of central Luzon s geographical features mostly open plains the XIV Corps was able to quickly advance toward Manila. Around this time, another amphibious landing of the Eighth Army occurred to the south of Manila. From there, the 11th Airborne Division also advanced on Manila. While the XIV Corps was advancing southward, the I Corps switched to defending their left flank. Meanwhile, General Yamashita had his strongest forces deployed in north Luzon and around the Clark Air Base. However, the Japanese were disorganized because of lack of communications and were not prepared for many US attacks. On their southward journey, when the XIV Corps reached Clark Air Base, they battled for control until it was captured on January 29, which also gave the US more supplies found within the base. Following this, the XIV Corps pushed towards Manila and started the attack on January 31 from the north and south of the city. On February 4th the 11th Airborne Division advanced into the city, but met strong Japanese defences. They pushed through and finished capturing the defences on February 11th, and ... • 48. Essay on Solar Energy Solar Energy Solar energy is the most ancient kind of energy found on earth, for it is as old as the sun. quot;Solar quot; means from the sun. The earth is only one of the many planets which is bathed in the sun s overflowing energy. Every second the world receives 95.8 trillion watts of power...just think about that for a minute. Think about how much power the earth just received in the time it took you to read this sentence? It is well beyond the amount of power used in one day. It has the potential to satisfy all our energy needs forever without ever having to use the pollutive fossil fuels ever again. quot; The problem however, does not lie in the limited source, as do fossil fuels, but in harnessing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the 1690 s an Italian scientist invented a solar furnace that was so hot it could shatter a diamond, one of the hardest substances on earth (Asimov 119). The real question around the beginning of the 19th century concerning solar energy was quot;could the sun produce electricity directly? quot; The main motivation behind this desire was that electricity could be stored in a battery, and used later. It would not be necessary to use the device in the sunlight. All inventions failed, until Frank Shuman, an engineer from Pennsylvania finally made a breakthrough. He built an experimental plant that used black troughs covered in glass with a few inches of water. When exposed to the sun, the water got very hot, causing it to circulate and power an electric generator. His data was so convincing that he got financial backers and built the world s first solar electric power plant in Egypt. However, the Eastern Sun Power Company went out of business even though it was using free fuel. It didn t produce enough electricity for the area that it used, 14,000 sq. ft of sun collecting land (Zweibel 48). In 1954 Bell Laboratories invented the first photovoltaic (or solar) cell, made from the semi conductor silicon, and other elements. It was the first way to convert sunlight directly into electricity. When the space program was launched in the 60 s, it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
