summary
● Lipstick has been around since the time of the
Egyptian(Beautybythegeeks 1).
● The ancient Egyptians used crushed insects and
toxic seaweed to create the color they applied to
their lips, now also known as lipstick
(Beautybythegeeks 1).
● Over the years chemist have gotten better at
creating lipstick in a less distasteful way.
Summary
● Waxes are used in lipstick to make it a
little bulkier and stiff in the tube so it can
be easier to apply(Beautybythegeeks 1).
● Some waxes used are beeswax and
carnuba wax(Sense 1).

Chemistry
● In making lipstick, chemist have to take into
consideration boiling and melting point of the
ingredients for a great product.
● Carnuba wax is one of the more popular wax because it
has a high melting and boiling point at 82 – 86 ◦C
(Beautybythegeeks 1).
● Some chemist use emulsion, the mixture of two or more
liquids that are immiscible, to hold the product together
(Nova 2).
● Emulsion uses small droplets of oil in water, which this
process keeps the oil and water from separating by
increasing the surface tension(Nova 1).
Chemistry
● Capsaicin(aka 8-Methyl-N-vanillyl-trans-6-nonenamide) is
an irritant that gives the ‘lip-plumping’ effect .
● This chemical communicates with the body by sending a
signal that causes a inflammation response.
● The parent hydrocarbon chain is the reason for the oily
texture, which makes it a soluble fat rather than water
(Beautybythegeeks 1).

Chemistry
➢ DYES
● Dyes are one of the more important important
ingredients used to make lipstick.
● One of the most popular on is called Eosin(Sense 1).
● Eosin is a red dye commly found in Lipstick. Its’
intensity can be changed by adding or removing
NH2(Sense 1).
