• To re-cap and submit responses in your portfolios,
for assessment
• Develop documents for Admin Task 1 & 2 by
following instructions
• Welcome visitors at reception in a professional
manner and following organisational procedure
Why? Assessment is a good way to find out how you
are progressing and a useful tool to show what you
are doing well and any areas for improvement.
Assessment is an essential tool of any qualification.
What can we expect in session 3 of the
Lv 1?
• LO 1: Re-cap and submit responses in your portfolios
• LO 2: Identify the importance of time management in business
administration and consider things that you could use to
organise your time
• LO 3: Follow instructions to complete routine administrative
tasks – Continue Admin Task 2. Some may move on to Admin
Task 3
• LO 4: Welcome visitors at reception in a professional
manner and following organisational procedure

• Each person to take turns throwing the dice

Describe to your group as much as you can about the topic
in the square – In relation to BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION!

• Using a Word document (this could be Google Docs),
list at least 3 skills and qualities you may have when
dealing with colleagues and /or customers in a positive
way – please add a sentence to describe why each
skill/quality is important
• Answers must be in your own words – Please
upload the Word document to Moodle.

There is a deadline for uploading this homework. Tuesday
10th of March at 12:30pm so that I have time to look at is
and feedback before the session on Wednesday.

You are able to complete the following;
• Page 10 – AC 1.1 – This work you have completed for
homework so please upload these to the ‘homework’
section in Moodle. AC 1.2 – You wrote some notes
based in this when working on your learning mat. Try
to put this in full sentences.
• Page 11 – Tutor Observation – Add your name and sign.
AC 4.1 – Complete this
• Page 12 – AC 2.2 & 3.1 – Complete these. AC 3.2 was
your homework. You need to include this on the
homework section of Moodle too.
• Page 13 – AC 5.1 & 5.2 – You took notes for this last
week. Please complete this in your portfolio.
ADMIN TASK 2 - Continued
1. Follow instructions to complete routine administrative tasks - ADMIN TASK 2
(handout) – this will usually take 2 or 3 sessions
2. You need to create (minimum) 3 separate documents from the Task sheet –
These need to be different types of documents but you can choose them (for
those learners who are able, choose the more difficult documents to challenge
yourself)
3. Proof read each document – Look for errors in layout, spellings, capital letters,
information is accurate, formatting is correct and professional
4. Save each file with an appropriate file name to your pen drive (Ask if you are
unsure) in a folder you have created called Admin Task 2
If you have completed this for all 3 documents – Check Moodle for extension
activities on Word Processing and Word tables
WELCOMING VISITORS ON
RECEPTION
• Whilst you were on reception last week, you
were asked to consider and discuss with each
other the reasons someone would come to
reception at Linkbridge and how you would be
able to help them – Please share these
examples with the rest of the group
Whilst on reception - What
are you being observed on?
Turn to page 18 in your workbook and look at your
Visitor’s Log.
• 1.1 Welcome visitors and establish the purpose for their visit – How are
we able to do this?
• 1.2 Follow organisational procedures for receiving visitors – What
organisational procedures may there be here?
• 1.3 Ask and answer routine questions – What may you need to ask?
• 1.4 Make visitors feel welcome during any period of waiting – How are
you able to do this?
• 1.5 Use appropriate tone and language, including body language, when
dealing with visitors – What do we mean by tone, language and body
language?
Photographs will be used as evidence in your portfolio – This evidence
will take a couple of weeks to gather

Business Admin - Session 5 LAL - LB

  • 2. DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS, IN RELATION TO BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION? IF NOT, PLEASE HAVE A LOOK (IF YOU ARE EARLY) Do you remember the word ‘duplexing’?

  • 4. Induction - Reminder • Fire evacuation / Toilets / Smoking • Code of Conduct / ICT Acceptable Use Policy • Phone calls / appointments • 8 sessions (including enrolment session) – Always AIM for 100% • Absences are to be reported (01254354423) and you are required to catch up in your own time, with resources provided by your tutor • Brews – 25p per session

SESSION AIM • To re-cap and submit responses in your portfolios, for assessment • Develop documents for Admin Task 1 & 2 by following instructions • Welcome visitors at reception in a professional manner and following organisational procedure Why? Assessment is a good way to find out how you are progressing and a useful tool to show what you are doing well and any areas for improvement. Assessment is an essential tool of any qualification.

What can we expect in session 3 of the Lv 1? • LO 1: Re-cap and submit responses in your portfolios • LO 2: Identify the importance of time management in business administration and consider things that you could use to organise your time • LO 3: Follow instructions to complete routine administrative tasks – Continue Admin Task 2. Some may move on to Admin Task 3 • LO 4: Welcome visitors at reception in a professional manner and following organisational procedure
  • 8. What else you can expect in this session? Key terminology: Time management, templates Key English skills: Following written and verbal instructions to complete tasks, sharing ideas, formal written communication, proof reading Key British Values: Respect – Following group rules to help form mutual respect and comfortable learning environment for everyone. E-Learning: MOODLE for resources, Google for research if needed & Microsoft Word to type business documents

Gameboard – Re-cap & Topic introduction • In 4’s (where possible) • Each group needs a knowledge board and a set of dice Instructions; • Each person to take turns throwing the dice • Dice - BLACK = The column • Dice - YELLOW = The row Describe to your group as much as you can about the topic in the square – In relation to BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION! Team mates to then ask at least 1 OPEN question about that topic/square to gather more information Open Q’s = Where, what, when, why, who, how?
  • 10. ACTIVITY – Time management In PAIRS Complete the ‘TIME MANAGEMENT’ hand-out This is double sided 10 minutes
  • 11. How does the time management activity link in with the admin role? • Why does time management matter? • What could the impact be? • Who does it impact on? • What could you do to organise your time? • Are there any tools that could help you?
  • 12. Independent Learning discussion • Using a Word document (this could be Google Docs), list at least 3 skills and qualities you may have when dealing with colleagues and /or customers in a positive way – please add a sentence to describe why each skill/quality is important • Answers must be in your own words – Please upload the Word document to Moodle. There will be a place to upload it on Session 2 of the Lv 1 Business Admin – how did you get on? There is a deadline for uploading this homework. Tuesday 10th of March at 12:30pm so that I have time to look at is and feedback before the session on Wednesday.
  • 13. Portfolios You are able to complete the following; • Page 10 – AC 1.1 – This work you have completed for homework so please upload these to the ‘homework’ section in Moodle. AC 1.2 – You wrote some notes based in this when working on your learning mat. Try to put this in full sentences. • Page 11 – Tutor Observation – Add your name and sign. AC 4.1 – Complete this • Page 12 – AC 2.2 & 3.1 – Complete these. AC 3.2 was your homework. You need to include this on the homework section of Moodle too. • Page 13 – AC 5.1 & 5.2 – You took notes for this last week. Please complete this in your portfolio.
  • 14. ADMIN TASK 2 - Continued 1. Follow instructions to complete routine administrative tasks - ADMIN TASK 2 (handout) – this will usually take 2 or 3 sessions 2. You need to create (minimum) 3 separate documents from the Task sheet – These need to be different types of documents but you can choose them (for those learners who are able, choose the more difficult documents to challenge yourself) 3. Proof read each document – Look for errors in layout, spellings, capital letters, information is accurate, formatting is correct and professional 4. Save each file with an appropriate file name to your pen drive (Ask if you are unsure) in a folder you have created called Admin Task 2 If you have completed this for all 3 documents – Check Moodle for extension activities on Word Processing and Word tables
  • 15. WELCOMING VISITORS ON RECEPTION • Whilst you were on reception last week, you were asked to consider and discuss with each other the reasons someone would come to reception at Linkbridge and how you would be able to help them – Please share these examples with the rest of the group
  • 16. Whilst on reception - What are you being observed on? Turn to page 18 in your workbook and look at your Visitor’s Log. • 1.1 Welcome visitors and establish the purpose for their visit – How are we able to do this? • 1.2 Follow organisational procedures for receiving visitors – What organisational procedures may there be here? • 1.3 Ask and answer routine questions – What may you need to ask? • 1.4 Make visitors feel welcome during any period of waiting – How are you able to do this? • 1.5 Use appropriate tone and language, including body language, when dealing with visitors – What do we mean by tone, language and body language? Photographs will be used as evidence in your portfolio – This evidence will take a couple of weeks to gather

Independent learning You need to….. • Using a Word document (this could be Google Docs), State how treating visitors politely and in a positive way benefits the organisation (WV Unit 2.1) Please write your answer in full sentences and include detail in your answer. • Answers must be in your own words – Please upload the Word document to Moodle.
