amityville-horror
• Amityville horror movie is based upon the real events of a family that only lasted
twenty eight days in their house after being harassed by demonic forces - there was
always the theory of it being a hoax that involved no paranormal activity at all, but
most still believe the house is haunted too this day as it has been the popular
location for movies such as the ‘Amityville horror’ that portray the events reported
from numerous residence that have lived and moved from the house.
• There also was a report of possession from one of the owners step son, Danny.

Lore
The Lore podcast is a commentary series, with chilling background music
that tells the story of realistic events and puts a scary perspective of life
into the mind of the listener. The tone of the piece is suppose to
influence an uncomfortable feeling around the listener and make them
question parts of life they haven’t before.
One voiced commentary.

Shortcut: Silent Night
Silent night is also from a narrative perspective with one voice commentary, it
sets the atmosphere of a forest with sound effects such as owls hooting, rain.
Mostly sounds in forests you tend too hear not see to set an unnerving feel
for the reader as the tone of the woman’s voice speaking could also cause the
reader discomfort.

The Archers
The Archers follows the story of a family, it is an scripted audio drama
with multiple voice actors. Almost like a soap you would see on TV – but
it uses sound effects and tone/volume of voice too create the desired
atmosphere they want to provoke the listener too feel whilst listening
through each episode hoping too reach a calm and comforting
conclusion.

Beach Soundscape
The beach soundscape doesn't’t have any direct dialogue – only
background noise. It’s encouraged that the listener closes their eyes as
the audio is suppose to create a relaxing atmosphere with waves and
seagulls as if too make the listener at peace in a safe environment.
9. Idea Generation/Initial Reaction
• What sound effects I will include?
Sound effects I will include will have to follow along to what my script says, for example – if I mention, a gun, or some kind of
mass murder that involved a gun, the most suitable sound effect too use will be a gunshot. Background music will also be
effective as nobody wants too continuingly listen to a one voice narrative without anything else of interest and it can also add to
the atmosphere of the piece.
• Beginning, middle, end.
The whole idea of the audio project is too effectively tell a story using no imagery whatsoever, for a story to be effective it usually
depends on the structure of it. Meaning a beginning, to capture the attention of the listener/reader, a middle too reach the climax
and show or explicitly tell the listener/reader what the problem is and an end too offer a conclusion and/or resolution.
• Timing and script?
I had a set myself a time of three minutes to fit everything I needed into an audio piece as I wanted it to be long enough to be
effective but also short enough so that it wouldn’t be dragged out and bore the listener. The script had to be interesting and I
figured one based upon true events reported from the past was the ideal way to compose a creepy, almost realistic setting that’ll
make the listener question things and become more aware of their surroundings and possible paranormal experiences that they
have been through.
• Atmosphere and emotion within my speech.
Considering the piece had to be ghostly, there was no way you could effectively pass off a friendly, welcoming audio that could
also reflect the possible truths and lies of paranormal activity. It was clear that the audio had to create a chilling atmosphere and
even possibly resulting in leaving the reader quite sad in emotion. Background music, sound effects and tone of voice was the only
way I could create this atmosphere and emotion of the piece as it involves quite tragic true events that had to be addressed in a
rather overdramatic way.
10. Proposal
Working Title: Amityville Horror
Audience:
Teen – Adult, both genders. The work is based upon real events so the audience will have to have
the maturity to understand the facts and determine whether or not they truly believe in the
story or not. Any younger audience would be too easily influenced into thinking one thing or
another and possibly become more scared than they should be.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
My project is based upon true events, so research involving dates and locations are needed in
order for my work to be as accurate as possible. There has been a lot of lies involved within this
story from outsiders and other that weren’t involved, determining between the false and the
facts is research that needs to be done also. It’s based off of the Amityville horror. Murder and
ghosts.

15. Daily Reflection Day 1
• Planning and research was mainly done this day as I needed
to find a story, based on real events, chilling enough to
convert into a narrative script.
• Writing the script was next, picking out the main facts and
putting them in chronological order to make some sense.
Getting some quotes and the most interesting theories about
the Amityville hauntings and murders was important as the
audio needed to be interesting as well as real. It had to have
some chilling and creepy facts about it which would intrigue
and even kind of scare the listener. The Amityville horror was
perfect for this.
16. Daily Reflection Day 2
• Figuring out what sound effects and music to use was next,
the music had to be copyright free and downloadable from a
source like YouTube. The sound effects too.
• Recording the actual script as well needed to be done as quick
as possible, and as I was sick the previous day, a friend
stepped in too narrate it whilst I set up and held the audio
recorder for her.
17. Daily Reflection Day 3
• Putting the recorded audio into Premiere and syncing it too
the music and sound effects was simple as I kept it really basic
and didn’t overdo the sound effects as sometimes less is more
effective than more.
• The sound effects were a bit jittering and static but
nevertheless tweaking them and trying too correct every
minor problem with the project was time consuming and I
had too keep working on a productive time scale so
completing it as a draft was my main aim first. I could always
re listen and delete or change a sound effect I thought never
worked if I had time.
18. Daily Reflection Day 4
• Once I had finished it and was rather contempt with it, I
changed a few details, listened to a few other audios too try
and get some more inspiration for last minute ideas.
• Then I exported it and posted it through YouTube as unlisted
so I could put it on my blogger.
21. Research
• Whilst researching for my audio project, I learnt that there were different
types of audio’s. Such as drama series and narrative stories. Making a
decision between different types was a choice I had too make for my own
project.
• I picked three different types and analysed the differences between each,
taking into account the sound effects, tone of voice, number of voice
actors and background music was used.
• Research was also put into the type of music and sound effects would
effectively work with my project and how to use them to create the
perfect atmosphere for a paranormal story told from a single voiced
narrative perspective.
• Some also went into the script itself as I had too find facts as my
paranormal story is based upon true events reported.
22. Planning
• I did some basic bullet points to get a clear initial idea of what I wanted to
do for my audio project and how I could do it well. Stories generally have
the basic structure of beginning, middle and end so I took that into
account in order too determine the length of my audio and make sure it
didn’t go on for too long or too less.
• Writing the script also took some planning as I had to find out facts that
were actually true compared too some of the lies that went into the real
story from people who may not have been involved or had twisted it for
their own amusement. I then had to decide which of the facts were most
chilling and interesting enough too keep in the project whilst also keeping
them in chronological order so they would make sense and tell this story
with a sensible and clear structure that would fit into just under the three
minutes I had planned to fill.
23. Time Management
• I had some sick days off of college which quite limited my time, so I had to
work practically and rather quickly in recording and editing my project. My
script even had to be drafted at home in my own time for it too be
prepped and ready to be read and recorded as soon as I got back into a
space where I could do so.
• The thing I spent the most amount of time on would have to be editing as I
had too find suitable sound effects and make sure the recorded audio was
well read enough too understand just in case it needed to be recorded
again to correct errors or simply make it sound better than it did.
• Recording also took up quite a large amount of time as reading a script on
demand can be quite a difficult thing to do, mistakes were made, it took a
few takes for each paragraph or sentence and it had to be clear and
understandable.
24. Technical Qualities
My audio project is pretty simple, the sound effects are a little jumpy and do cut off quite
robotically and statically some of the time. The narrative voice itself would have to be the
best part about of it, the tone of it really fit with the theme and went well to set the
chilling atmosphere I hoped it would. The background music also fit well, it was creepy and
as soon as it started playing, the listener would know what kind of story they would be
essentially listening too.
I used an audio recorder supplied by college to record the script, everything came out in
pretty good quality. The only problem was a few background noises that were picked up by
they could easily be overshadowed by music and sound effects. The voice actor was good
only few words were stuttered of stumbled over but it isn’t very distinctive to tell.
25. Aural Qualities
The only thing that didn’t sound particularly great was the sound effects as they were jumpy
and some weren’t as smoothly edited in than others so cut off rather sharply. So they were
essentially something that would need to be improved. I do quite like the voice itself the
most as it came out quite clear and worked well to fit the project. I think it could have been
more creative but I had a lot of my time scale cut short due to sickness.
I would of liked to rerecord some of the things again just so they were more clear but the
result was not a major catastrophe and could still be used and edited. I just wished the
sound effects were a lot smoother.
I’m also glad I used an audio recorder as the results came out a lot clearer than those who
used a phone too record.
26. Audience Appeal
My target audience was teens as the separation between what could be real and what’s not
would be harder to distinguish as a child and could cause them to fear and question the
possible paranormal activity around them. Seeing shadows in the dark, hearing noises ext…
Also teens are the main audience for horror movies, thus the interest of one that could be
based upon a true story will appeal too them. Especially one that already has a movie made
out of it thats already entertained an auidience enough to capture and interest and the
possiblity to explore this seperate ‘paranormal’ world, using things such as ouji boards to
communicate which have become far more popular nowadays. So a ghost story based upon
past events that have been reported and exploited is the perfect genre for my target
audience.
