Doctor Who (audio drama)
Link:
About the product:
• Music: Despite this product is based of TV show with an
already existing soundtrack, they've chosen to create a
brand new soundtrack.
• Cast: Other than the Doctor, they've chosen to select a
whole new cast – keeping things relatively fresh.
• Sound Effects: Because this relies on the audio format,
they use quite exact audio and acoustics to help the
audience picture the scene – imagery.
• Script: Even though this is based on a hit TV show, it
still needs to be converted to a script format, in order to
play out.
Audience Appeal:
• Because this is part of running franchise, meaning this
can take advantage of the fan-base to sell more copies
(sales.)
• Being produced in an audio format means that this
would appeal to people who don't their eye's free but are
able to listen to something – for example someone on a
long drive.

The Other Side (documentary/factual)
Link:
About the product:
• Music: The product starts of with an opening music which
will later adjust to fit an opening commentary.
• Cast: The cast for this is a range of people selected to
narrate – as this product is a radio documentary.
• Sound Effects: In terms of the sound effects and audio
effects, this product uses some manipulation and ambience
to re-create scenario – intending to make the product more
immersive.
• Script: As this is factual product, they'd need a script to
ensure that they get all the facts into the product – whilst
also giving it enough planning to keep it interesting.
Audience Appeal:
• As this is a radio documentary there is an educational
line of appeal to it.
• Being produced in an audio format means that this
would appeal to people who don't their eye's free but are
able to listen to something – for example someone on a
long drive.
6. Existing Products Research
The Archers (audio drama)
Link:
About the product:
• Music: Much like the two previous products, this has
an opening tune to help welcome to a series. However,
other that music isn't used unless actually being played
in the setting.
• Cast: Being a radio drama, they need a cast to hold up
the story and the drama within it.
• Sound Effects: Again, like the other two entries, sound
effects are used to set a scene – whilst also using to
vocal manipulation to enhance that - like a reverb to a
create a slight echo.
• Script: Being a radio drama this product will need a
script to give the product an organized story and plot,
whilst also telling the cast what to say, when to say...
Audience Appeal:
• Being produced in an audio format means that this
would appeal to people who don't their eye's free but
are able to listen to something – for example
someone on a long drive.

10. Proposal
Working Title:
"Lost Pastimes."
Audience:
This will appeal to a mainstream audience on the bases that it's a horror – which appeals to this
audience as it's currently a trend with films such as - "Conjuring" and "Annebell..." It will also be
apealing to young adult age demogrpahic (-about 16 to 19,) as it deals with mature theme of
death...
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
For my project my project I will be creating a ghost story based in Victorian London – as this was
a period when ghost stories were at the height of their popularity, whilst also being based in
1866 – in reference to the year "The Signal Man" (a ghost story by Charles Dickens) was
published.
In my story there'll be two main characters (similar to a Sherlock and Watson relationship) -
Benedict and Charles, along with our ghost of the story – Mrs. Peregrym.
13. Sound Effects
Sound Effect Needed How I Will Create the Sound
Footsteps on a coble road way – running,
walking a shuffling.
Modified sound effects – from YouTube.
Street ambience? - potentially. Modified sound effects – from YouTube.
Slight street echo's. I'll record the vocals using a microphone
and add the echo in post – using a reverb.
Ghost voice.
To create the ghostly voice I'll be taking
the audio from the ghost and potentially
add a pre-reverb and post – thus
distraughting the tense of the speech.
17. Daily Reflection Day 1 (13/11/2018)
What I achieved -
• Today, I added to my script, before closing it off so I'd be able
to finish the project by the end of the week.
• I also did my bibliography (for my research) - despite having
already done my research.
• On top of all this, I emailed the script over to one of my friend
and got back the vocals from him.
How do I feel about this -
• Overall, I feel like it hasn't been the most overly productive
day and believe I could maybe of achieved more. However
having done the work that I had today, I will now be able to
make a start on production tomorrow.
18. Daily Reflection Day 2 (14/11/2018)
What I achieved -
• Before having gone to class (in my free time,) I decided to
make up for time and fill in some of the slides or part of
slides that I'd missed – as It'd be too much of hassle moving
my project back and fourth from class, so I've chosen to do
my production in class and the rest of my work at home or in
my free time.
19. Daily Reflection Day 3 (15/11/2018)
What I achieved -
• In the morning I took a break from doing a bit of editing
(having still got a bit to do,) I chose to rather add to my
valuation on my power point – covering the parts I could
actually cover.
• On top of this, I also completed the production on my audio.
20. Daily Reflection Day (16/11/2018)
• I finally, finshed the last of my course work for
the audio project – thus meeti

23. Research
Because I chose to conduct my story in Victorian time I researched some sayings and
phrases to implement into the script - to help it seem more authentic, if not stick to the
time period more. On top of this, with it both being a ghost story and set in Victorian
London – I'd also chosen to implement links between my script and Charles Dickens – such
as the date when she died was a link to the year that "The Signalman" (a ghost story written
by Charles Dickens) was published.
Furthermore, as well as research for the story itself, I also did research into the audio
format – researching to radio drama's ("Doctor Who - Afterlife" by the company Big Finish
and "The Archers" by BBC 4;) and one factual audio ("The Other side.")
With my research, I feel like the qualitivness of the research I did was to a basic standard –
whilst maybe lacking some depth and some documentation – with my general
research. Meaning, if I was to do this again I'd maybe be sure to include that side more my
research, I'd also try to include more of comparison/link to my work.
24. Planning
Strengths:
• By doing the planning that I did I could figure out what my story would be and how it would
plan out – it also gave me the idea of the sound effects I would need to use in my radio
drama and the voices I'd need to cast for it - by planning out the characters I'll need.
– By using mind maps I could both plan and expand on an idea – so as we got ghost stories chosen as our theme, I
included my plot (what will happen,) the characters within that story (the ghost incliding two other characters –
Benedict and Charles, with extended planning on what they'd be like,) setting (where is the story going to be – which
will later help when it comes to editing as I'll have idea of what to use to create the scene in the audience's mind,)
and finally I included a bit of research to existing products – as well as running themes within ghost stories.
– By listing ideas out on a mind map, it means I can either expand them out then or come back to it later.
Weaknesses:
• Whilst planning out you work can give you and opportunity with brainstorming your ideas
(such as using mind maps,) it can also discourage you to be experimental when it comes to
creating the actual product.
– Having already planned everything out, you'll be more closer to stay true the plan and follow it rather than testing out
something – as it's not in the plan?
• Losing originality through looking at other people's work.
– Whilst researching other people's products could help inspire your product can be could, sometimes
(rather than being just inspired,) you could be encouraged to steal elements from someone elses
work – thus taking your product further away from originality...
25. Time Management
Strengths:
• I took a lot of the college work in to my own time to keep on top of the
deadlines – if not at college.
– So if I hadn't got the work done at college, I tend to take it home with me – if not doing
it whilst I was still at college on my half days, that way I would ensure that I could remain
on top of my course work and my actual product...
Weaknesses:
• Whilst taking a lot of work at home or in my spare time at college, I admit I got
very distracted in my class – often preventing me from doing much time in college
and allowing my college work to build up.
26. Technical Qualities
Similarities -
• Both products use both ambient music and
sound effects to set the scene and tone for
the pieces.
• On top of this both of our products use a full
cast to act out the audio – as a radio drama.
Differences -
• Unlike my product, "Dark Eyes" is serialised –
with an opening and closing theme.
Audience Appeal:
• It appeals to fans of the Tv show - "Doctor
Who" or the Science fiction genre in general.
27. Aural Qualities
Personally, I like the work I've produced. I feel like I've produced a good script
– with suspense and mystery that will draw will in an audience. I also like the
effects I've used good effects – using both sound effects, with a skilled
minuplation on the Ghosts voice – to seem more apparent to the audience.
28. Audience Appeal
This will appeal to a mainstream audience on the bases that it's a horror –
which appeals to this audience as it's currently a trend with films such as -
"Conjuring" and "Annebell..." It will also be apealing to young adult age
demogrpahic (-about 16 to 19,) as it deals with mature theme of death...
