Story
• It’s said that a spectral wolf known as the Harlow
Hound haunts Harlow Hill. The cross between a wild
wolf and great Dane allegedly roamed free on the hill
in the 1970s, worrying sheep and frightening
farmers.

– There are a plethora of different sound effects used in
this piece. It has 2 main sound effects: the weather
stays the same just muffled slightly indoors, the
person that seems to be in the horror side of it all.

there is more potential to the sounds and what image
they can create to the listener. Additionally, the use of
things you would notice like water flowing threw

The age would be for 16+ because of the terror in the story not being suitable for those younger
The gender would be more towards males. The social status would be for c and below since the
story is about farmers and people in that field of work. Generally not in the B-A. The

Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The basic concept is that it’s a soundscape that describes the horrors of a ghost story by
throwing the listener into that situation. This will use a variety of different sounds from the
environment to push a eerie feeling down the listeners spine. The research I did for this was
looking at how professional sound makers produced their sounds and listened to a variety of
soundscapes on YouTube and how amateur sound makers produced their sounds. The reason
this helps with my project is because I can produce many sounds without finding every exact
prop, and just use something that when done properly can make that sound. For example, leaves
can be replaced by wrappers or something similar.
Script
• Beginning, walking in woods. Sounds: leaves rustling,
deep breaths, trees howling, distant walking, shoes
squeaking.
• Conflict, running from the unknown. Sounds: Running
through leaves, tree howling is louder, wind pushes
past. Growling. Faint heart beat
• Climax, Running through leaves, tree howling is louder,
wind pushes past. A louder heart beat. Growling and
howling. Something running on all fours. Door opening
and slamming shut.
• Resolution, realisation. fire crackles, slow breath out,
heart beat quiets down into non-audiable .
Sound Effects
Sound Effect Needed How I Will Create the Sound
Leaves rustling- Walk through some leaves
Wind - Let wind blow past the mic
Deep breaths- Breathing into the mic
Door opening - Look for a creaky door and open it
Door slamming shut - Use the same door as before and shut it
Running through leaves - Run through leaves recording it
Heart beat - Use a stethoscope and put the listening
ends onto the mic
Loud heart beat - Run for a bit and repeat the process
before
Growl - Get a dog to growl near the mic
Howling - Start a howl with a dog
Something running on all fours - Throw a ball and record the dog chasing it
Fire crackling - Either start a small campfire and record it,
or use some material from textiles to
create the crackling

Daily Reflection Day 1
• With a short period to complete the project to the best of my
abilities I thought at first it was a going to be a big challenge
for me, but after the first 30 minutes I created a flow which
helped me finish the product quicker. The different tools I
used were basic just adjusting the sounds and how they
entered and left different scenes as well as making different
adjustments to how the got louder at some points to
represent something getting closer.

Evaluation
Research
• The strengths of my research is that I found a variety of ways to find or
create the sound, this helped me create my product since I had many
different way I now could create the sounds I thought would be difficult to
make. Weaknesses of my research was I couldn’t go through all the
techniques of sound creation since they were long tutorials. Things that
could have been better was the management of my research since I
focused on specific sounds instead of a variety. Things I could have done
better would be to go through part of the tutorials and if I had time to
finish them, just so I would have plenty of small bits on everything instead
of a lot on some. The effect this would have on my product would be that I
would have been able to create all the sounds instead of having to use
some ready made sounds.
Planning
• The strengths of my planning stage was firstly I had many stories I could
base my product on which made to my taste since I could pick my
preferred one instead of being given a specific story to work with and find
information on. Additionally, I already had a script in my head from the
start so for the story to slot perfectly with it was a good moment. Some
weaknesses with the planning was how rushed it could seem, with my
short time to complete the task I rushed to make sure I could fit
everything into the deadline. The ways I could have improved would be
whilst doing my research to just add little bits to my planning stage that
helped from research so I don’t have to recap everything when I get to
planning. The would give me more time to plan and help improve my
whole piece.
Time Management
• With the time I had I believe I did well to complete the task on time. Yes
my product was completed on time but because I missed 3 days of work I
only had one day to plan and create my work. If we had an additional day I
could have done some extra planning and create a few more pictures with
the sounds.
Technical Qualities
Similarities to the haunted house existing product is that we both use the natural sounds
to try and create a good atmosphere instead of relying on the ghost sounds. For example,
we both use the wind and season to our advantage with both seeming to be autumn as
both characters are walking on leaves. Some differences are that I mostly keep the sounds
outside and use more natural sound to unnatural sounds. Whilst the haunted house relies
on the different areas of the house having certain sounds unique to that area.
I believe my product is quite detailed as it contains a variety of different environmental
sounds, Object sounds, and animal sounds. These make a large scene where the listener
can understand the story being set. The effects used to make these flow better was
smoothing out sudden outbursts of sound, mainly using key-frames to lower the sound
when needed.
The way I recorded most of my audio was by reenacting it with the audio recorder close
by, if I tried some Foley methods I could have been more successful with certain areas and
made it smoother
Aural Qualities
The overall quality could be improved but also has a lot of good links and
transitions. The aspects of my audio I like was how it made a picture from
nothing but sounds. Things that could be improved would the the quality of
some sounds and if they sound slightly wrong when looped. Way that I could
improve it would be by going into a sound studio and getting everything careful
recorded so nothing extra would be in the scene.
Strengths of the quality of my audio is how the flow gives a sense of speed if it
were in front of you and helps understand what the characters going through
The weakness of my audio quality is how there is a lot of background sounds
which are out of place and shouldn’t be there.
Audience Appeal
The way I’ve appeal to my target audience is by adding some form of action and fast paced to
make the listener want to know the end of the story. I believe that the whole story would
appeal to my target audience but mainly the second section. For example, the beginning
throws the listener into a random scenario which gets them intrigued on what will be
happening. The second section builds up the pace by adding action where the character that
the listeners been following could be killed, making it so the listener wants the character to
escape. Finally, the final section concludes the story by presenting a peaceful setting where
the audience can tell that the character is safe.

The second section builds up the pace by adding action where the character that the listeners been following could be killed, making it so the listener wants the character to escape. Finally, the final section concludes the story by presenting a peaceful setting where the audience can tell that the character is safe.
