3. Existing Products Research
– Doctor who (audio drama)
• The audio is very dialogue orientated, it includes 3 people talking and conversing.
There are some sound effects used including a gas leak type sound effect, edited
voice effects making the dialogue deeper in some parts and a glitch/stutter type
effect. The quality is pretty good overall and there is some light music in the back
to set the tone, the background music changes based on the dialogue which
makes it flow well. To make it better some of the voice acting could have been
toned down a bit as there are times where the dialogue is a bit over the top and
some of the screams sound a bit silly. I could use the background music in my own
music to set the tone.
4. Existing Products Research
• Millennium falcon asmr
– The audio in this video has no dialogue and focuses on the sounds inside the
ship and the weather and atmosphere outside, I really like the fact that it
includes the sounds of the environment outside the ship as it makes it more
immersive and realistic. Some of the sounds inside the ship don’t sound very
familiar as its from a super advanced spaceship that doesn’t exist in real life, I
think this is a very good thing as it perfectly fits the theme of the star wars
franchise (super advanced technology). To make it better I would have maybe
included some background dialogue just to make it feel more like people are
actually flying the ship because it kind of seems unrealistic for there to be no
talking whatsoever.
5. Existing Products Research
• Skyrim – music & ambience - night
– The audio in this video is mainly just music and ambience sounds that come
from the game, it really immerses you and makes you feel like your there as all
the noises you can hear and the music work really well together, there isn't
any parts that overpower other sounds or any times where something is too
quite, the volume levels are perfect. They use a variety of different sounds for
the background including waterfalls, insects and birds chirping. To make it
better I would have included some npc interaction noise, as your playing the
game you will come across random npcs that talk to you so to make it as
accurate as possible to the actual game I think that should have been
included
6. Existing Products Research
• Halo | Peaceful Orchestral Music & Ambience
– In this piece of audio there is a combination of environment sounds, music
and singing, they sometimes transition between each other and when the
music fades out or becomes quieter the ambient sounds of the waves and
wind begin to fade out also almost like they are 1 sound, I feel like this makes
it a bit unrealistic but also gives it a calming feel. I can take the idea of
intertwining the environment sounds and music and use this in my own work,
ye it might make it seem unrealistic but for a horror themed piece of audio I
think sound transitioning into complete silence will help build up fear.
8. Idea Generation/Initial Reaction
• My initial idea is to make a slasher horror type, I'm taking inspiration from
the horror franchise "Scream" and converting it into my own audio
project. A positive of this project is that it will give me a lot of freedom in
terms of storytelling, because there isn't going to be any visual footage, I
will be able to portray an image through my audio that might not have
been possible if I had to include visuals, it will also be easier to finish my
actual product since all of my time will be focused on audio and I
won have to spend any of it on footage. I think getting all of the sounds to
sound good or making sure they are the right volume might be a bit
challenging since I don’t have any experience in audio really, so I'll have to
get used to it.
10. Foley
• Include your work on foley and some writing
about what went well, what could be better
and what you have learned.
• You should include a link and a screen shot.
Don’t embed your work, it won’t work.
11. Foley
• The foley task was pretty interesting, somewhat difficult to edit and cut
together in the beginning but I managed to finish most of it. There is a
small portion of the video that doesn’t have any audio but other than that
everything is completed. I think that the volume levels of the audio we got
was pretty good and nothing seemed too loud or too quiet, it also
sounded quite realistic, I think. One thing that could have gone better is
the scene where someone is running past, I didn’t know how to make a
sound clip fade out so the running sound just stopped abruptly and it
didn’t sound too good.
12. Recording
• Write about your experiences of recording in
different places.
• What effect did it have? How will this
influence your project?
13. Recording
• Recording the audio went pretty well overall, I managed to get
all I needed quite easily and without too many issues. The
only slight problem was using the sound recorder, at first, I
didn’t fully know how to operate the device and found it hard
to adjust the volume levels, after trial and error I became
more familiar with the recorder and everything went
smoothly from there. As for the locations we recorded in
there was only 1 problem being background noise due to
other people talking, we had to change locations a couple of
times because of this but were easily able to find a secluded
area.
14. Garage Band
• Include your work with Garage Band, and
some writing about what went well, what
could be better and what you have learned.
• You should include a link and a screen shot.
Don’t embed your work, it won’t work.
15. Garage band
• Experimenting with garage band went pretty well and I managed to make
a piece of music I quite like and could potentially use in my ghost story.
16. Proposal
Working Title: Doom
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Audience:
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc. Use the
Audience Classifications PowerPoint on Blackboard to help you develop this section.
Why would your project appeal to this person? Discuss each audience element in relation to
content (why would your product appeal to the age group? Why would your product appeal to
the gender? Etc.)
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
My concept is to make an audio piece based on a horror story, there will be 3 characters, two
males and 1 killer, the 2 friends will be tormented and chased by the killer and they will have to
try their best to survive. They will end up being cornered and one of them will have to act as a
distraction in order for them to have any chance of survival, the friend who sacrificed themselves
will die and the second friend will seek revenge on the killer and will begin to pursue him. They
will have a faceoff before proceeding to fight each other to the death, the killer has weapons but
the guy taking revenge will fight much smarter and gain the upper hand, the killer will decide to-
17. Proposal
• Project Concept- retreat for the time being and regain his composure,
unknowingly the second friend is following him silently waiting for the
perfect time to strike and finish the fight. The killer will sit down
opposite a dark field and the friend will emerge from the darkness with a
sinister look on his face ready to take revenge, he will slowly approach
the crippled killer who is unable to move properly because of the
damage he received in the fight. The friend kills the killer as Hes trying to
get away.
19. Story
• 2 friends decide to go and explore an abandoned university
campus and find themselves being pursued by a masked
figure with a knife. They get cornered and one of the friends
decides to sacrifice himself in order for the other one to have
a chance of escaping, he dies in the process and the other
friend seeks revenge.
20. Script Draft

scared.
• -John- Whatever, if something bad happens I'm blaming it on you.
• - Both hop down from fence and have now entered the campus
• -They wander around for a little, chatting and begin to hear strange noises
• -John- Did you hear that?
• -Bean- Yeh what do you think it was
• -John- probably nothing.
• -A dark figure emerges out of a dark corner and chases them
• -They get cornered and John decides to distract the mysterious figure and tells
Bean to run
• -The figure manages to stab John, Bean watches him die and runs up to
the figure and starts attacking.
• -The figure runs away injured, Bean stalks him and finishes him off.
21. Script Final

• -The figure unexpectedly lunges himself at John and stabs him.
• -John- So fast, how?
• -Bean- Oh no, JOHN.
• -John slowly falls to the ground fatally injured
• -John- Maybe you were right, it wasn’t the best decision to come here Haha
• -John dies with a smile on his face.
• -Out of rage Bean sprints as fast as he can towards the figure and starts attacking. The figure has a weapon but Bean fights
smart and manages to heavily injure the figure.
• -The figure picks up a fire extinguisher and sprays it to act like. smokescreen so he can retreat.
• -Bean focuses and manages to hear the direction where the figure is going, Bean silently stalks the figure and sees
him slumped over.
• -Without a word Bean begins to walk up to the beaten figure, fuelled by pure rage he starts once again attacking. He ends up
killing the figure.
23. Script Final
• -Bean thinks too himself as he slowly falls to his knees in relief that it is all over
• -Who is really the villain here? Am I not just the same as the one who killed John, what did I

29. Daily Reflection Day 1
• Today I made a start on getting some sounds, it was actually quite
challenging to figure out what we could do to create certain sounds, I
wasn’t sure at first how we were going to get the sound of someone
climbing a metal fence but I eventually figured it out. Another challenge I
faced was finding places to record where there wasn’t much noise, at first
some of the background noises were too loud, I tried editing them out but
it didn’t go too well.
30. Daily Reflection Day 2
• Made a start on some editing, pieced and cut most of the audio together
and it seems to sound and flow pretty well at the moment, still some
improvements could be made. Watched an audition tutorial on how to
make voices sound a bit scarier, unfortunately I didn’t think it fit very well
and decided to delete it, was still good for experience though. Other than
the voice sound effect everything else went well and I like it.
31. Daily Reflection Day 2 part 2
• Today I decided to get some extra sounds just to make it sound a bit better, I
focused on trying to make the background noise sound more ambient and
believable. It all went pretty well and I think it sounds a lot better now that I've
added more sounds to the background. After that most of the editing was done
and I finished it off with some denoise to take away any unwanted background
noise.
33. Research
• A strength of my research is that through it I learned how to make certain
noises to add to my project that I wouldn’t have been able to use
otherwise, the sounds I learned from my research also made the actual
audio sound better as it added more variation to the theme I chose for the
sounds. Another benefit I gained due to research was knowing how to use
certain voice effects to make something sound scarier, this made it sound
a lot more like a ghost story compared to without any scary voice
effects.
34. Planning
• A strength of my planning is that I had a very clear idea of
how I was going to go about doing my work, I was able to
quickly get on with the work since every detail was already
written down, I was able to use it as a reference every time I
got stuck. This made the whole process much quicker and
more efficient.
35. Time Management
• I didn’t manage to finish my product on time and I had to complete it after
the deadline, I completed everything eventually it was just a little late.
36. Technical Qualities
I feel like my work has a decent amount of detail and most of the sounds that
would have been happening in a confrontation like my story i recorded and put
them in, I think it sounds realistic and pretty well put together. Maybe there are
a couple of other sounds I could have added just to set the scene more and
make it sound a bit more ambient.
37. Aural Qualities
I personally think my work sounds pretty good, the audio is pretty high quality and there are
no unnecessary pauses in the audio, not much clipping and volume levels are near perfect,
the music in the background sits nicely with the narrations and character lines and doesn’t
overpower the voices really.
38. Audience Appeal
My target audience is people who enjoy horror movies, I have appealed to
them by using common horror genre conventions like scary music, violent
action scenes and other conventions.

Go over as many slides as necessary. Research at least 3 products.
Discuss the use of sound effects, music and performance. How have the producers suggested a location/time period and created a tone/feel
Try to break down what you can hear. How do the different sound elements work together? How do sound effects add to the drama? What part does music play in the work?
Try to listen to a variety of different types of radio programme. If you listen to drama and documentary, you will give yourself a better understanding of what exists and what is possible. It will also help guide your project.
