2. EXISTING PRODUCTS RESEARCH
• The Archers- audio drama
As soon as you play the sound you immediately
hear people talking in the background as a sort of
filler to stop it being so quiet, it also makes it seem
more comfortable and helps you imagine what s
happening. With each different conversation in the
first audio I played there were supporting sounds
such as subtle speaking, sounds of objects moving
and appliance being used ect, this kept it from
seeming dull or boring by creating a clear image in
your head f the scene.
3. EXISTING PRODUCTS RESEARCH
• Short Cuts- documentary/ factual
I chose to listen to “Red” and soon as you start there
is a background song that strangely fits the theme of
the audio and then the narrator begins talking. When
one of the other speaker begins talking in “Red” there
ae any background noises such as children playing,
people playing musical instruments and also the
piano getting played faintly in the background. All of
these extra factors help create an image in you head
alongside the narrator. It also helps with possible
suspense and setting the mood.
4. EXISTING PRODUCTS RESEARCH
• Doctor Who- audio drama
This audio has many different sounds really help you
understand what's happening despite there being no
video. I think so far this one has used background
noises/music the best because you fully understand the
theme and context of what Is going on. The different
sounds all work together really well to, it give you the
image of one place outside. I think the also managed to
create a sense of time and place with with the things thy
had too work with such as bm, bg noise and their own
narrations.
5. EXISTING PRODUCTS RESEARCH
• Soundscapes
The soundscape that I picked this time was about a
haunted house. I can hear faint rain in the
background, it is also thundering. I can also hear
footsteps and the creaking of a gate. After a while
there is a woman's gasp followed by her crying.
These noises give me the impression of someone
walking up to a hunted house and then getting
scared and beginning to cry.
7. IDEA GENERATION/INITIAL
REACTION
I think when I start my project I am going to do a
soundscape style audio since I do not want to speak
myself and neither will my friends. I plan to use a scary
story since it would be the easiest to think of ideas for.
The idea of making a soundscape is still not set but I
don’t think that I will try the other two formats. I am
personally not looking forward to this project however
there a positive. That I that i can get used to creating and
editing my own sounds to layer over one another and to
fit well with each other. One difficult part is finding the
objects that I need to create the sounds I want, and also
managing to create an image in your head.
9. FOLEY
• Include your work on foley and some writing about
what went well, what could be better and what you
have learned.
• You should include a link and a screen shot. Don’t
embed your work, it won’t work.
•
10. RECORDING
When filming in a more open space it created a more
echoey sound whereas in a more confined space it was
clearer and flatter sounding. The noises made in a more
open space can be good for creating an eerie tone
whereas the noises created in a confined are can b good
for creating a comfortable atmosphere or something
completely different
11. GARAGE BAND
When I messed around on
garage band, I wasn’t fully sure
on how to add instruments and
overlay them so when I try again,
I aim to learn how do more
things such as them. One thing
that went well however was how
easy I found it to choose
between the different
instruments, and also how easy
it was to change factors such as
bass and reverb.
13. Working Title:
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Audience:
My target audience is children aged 11-16 and all genders. Its also aimed towards socially
type b people and people who are interested in games/ horror.
I think that my project appeals to these people because when I was that age me and a bunch of
friends were all interested in that sort of thing. I also fit into some of the other categories listed so
that’s why I think others like that will enjoy it too.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
I am going to create an audio narrative where there is a story being told, in this case the theme is
horror/ scary stories. I researched existing products that are the same as or similar to what I aim
create. This helped because it gave me an idea on how I can set my product out and ways to
better.
15. STORY
You, the listener, are a night guard who has just started
you new job at the often shut down and opened
entertainment restaurant called Freddy
Fazbear's Pizzeria. Your main goal is to keep the 4
animatronics that are known to malfunction and roam
the pizzeria at night under control and in their specific
storage room. Although as easy as it sounds, there
were reasons Freddie's kept getting shut down each time
it reopened.
16. SCRIPT DRAFT
Welcome to your new job! From now until, well, you give
in, you will be working as a night guard under Freddie
Fazbear's Entertainment. All you need to do is keep an
eye on the animatronics in the back and make sure that
they don’t start wandering around. Or get to you. There
are quite a few rumours floating around but don’t pay
those any attention, they are all about something like
child abduction and a huge string of murders, its pretty
extreme. One thing I should mention was an incident
that occurred a few years ago, ''87 I believe?
17. SCRIPT FINAL
Welcome to your new job! From now until, well, until you give in you will be
working as a night guard in Freddy Fazbear's Pizzaria! All you need to do is
keep an eye on the animatronics in the back and make
sure that they don’t see you. Or more importantly, get to you. They have
been allowed to roam around the restaurant at night to prevent their servos
from locking up. (clear throat awkwardly) Anyway, this place has quite a few
rumours surrounding it and has quite the reputation. but don’t pay those any
attention, they're all along the lines of child abduction and a huge string of
murders, so its pretty extreme. But don’t worry, I don’t think its true, so that
got to count for something right? Oh, and just a little safety measure, make
sure you don’t get close enough for any of the animatronics to grab you, or
anything for that matter. They have been known to mistake humans for
naked endoskeletons and stuff you inside one of the old suits, they also could
harm you in other ways, have you heard of the bite of ''87? You must have, it
was all over the news and the papers for a solid amount of time. A young
child got too close after hours and ended up leaving the establishment with
his frontal lobe missing. (nervous laugh). Bad right? But as I was saying, you'll
be fine. I mean, i was, right? Don’t sweat it. Just really do keep an eye out and
don’t forget to conserve power, only use the doors and flashlight when

23. DAILY REFLECTION DAY 1
I have finished my pro forma all apart from the
reflections, I have my narration done and I have some
sound effects recorded. I plan on editing a little today
too since I can't do that at home throughout the
holidays.
24. DAILY REFLECTION DAY 2
I added the sound effects to my narration and have tried
to change the sound on them so the sound for fitting/
scarier? I plan on trying to add scary music to the
background too
25. DAILY REFLECTION DAY 3
I didn’t end up adding the background music, but I am
somewhat happy wit how I edited the sound effects to
match my story.
27. RESEARCH
I think that my research helped a lot in giving me an idea
of how I should set out my work and how I could make
it better. It also helped give me ideas for many
different stories and things I could use for different
effects/ background noises.
28. PLANNING
I think this time I planned a lot better and made
sure I had a clear idea of what to do and how to do
it. l also had multiple backup options in case
anything went wrong which was useful. I listened
to theory videos, podcasts and other audio stories
which all helped better my understanding of the
subject.
29. TIME MANAGEMENT
I also think that this time I managed my time a lot
better since I didn't have to rush anything or ask
for an extension. I also stuck to somewhat of a
strict timetable, so I got everything done in time.
30. TECHNICAL QUALITIES
A first my project seemed dull but as soon as I
added my sound effects that I recorded it fitted the
"scary" title more than it did and also sounded a
lot more interesting. I used effects such as "time
and pitch" and "reverb" to create the effect I
wanted that would match the noises the
animatronics made in my story.
31. AURAL QUALITIES
I think that for my first time attempting something
like this I did well however if I was to redo it or
tweak my existing product, I would add an
ongoing track in the background to ad to the
"scary" factor and to ease in the sound effects I
added. but I still do like the result I have.
32. AUDIENCE APPEAL
I have appealed to my audience by making my
story abut a popular game and also by making it
"scary" by adding fitting effects and messing
around with the audio. I also think that the build
up of tenson and the teasing with the audio really
appeals to my target audience too once it’s the
type of things people that age are interested in.
Editor's Notes
Go over as many slides as necessary. Research at least 3 products.
Discuss the use of sound effects, music and performance. How have the producers suggested a location/time period and created a tone/feel
Try to break down what you can hear. How do the different sound elements work together? How do sound effects add to the drama? What part does music play in the work?
Try to listen to a variety of different types of radio programme. If you listen to drama and documentary, you will give yourself a better understanding of what exists and what is possible. It will also help guide your project.
