• The Archers
Analysis- The Archers is an audio drama that takes place in a twenty first century village with all the
pressures of modern rural life. The sound effects and music in the audio help to show the audience
that this is where the drama takes place as well as making them feel like they are actually there and
with the characters. For example when the scene changes or its taking place in a different environment
the narrator will say so or the characters will have a transition. For example a character might say that
they are going somewhere and once they do the audio will play the sound of footsteps walking on
whatever sort of terrain is at that environment. The producers have helped to suggest a time
period/location and created a tone/feel by focusing on what sound effects they use and what their
voice actors say very carefully. For example when characters I talking to one another there isn’t often a
lot of background noise meaning that the characters must be somewhere that isn’t busy like a city or
town and helping to give the audience a feel of intensity or to be more in touch with what the
characters are saying and feel how they’re feeling instead of focusing on what's going on in the
background. This can also help to effect the tone because when things happen such as two characters
arguing then the listener will be more focused on the tone and the tone will have a bigger effect on
them. However the producers have still added a few subtle sound effects in the background to help the
listener know where the scene is taking place if they don’t already know like adding bird noises, farm
animal noises and other things such as gates and weather to help add to the environment and not only
help the listener know where they are but make the listener feel like they’re actually there with the
characters. The music that is used for the transitions and in the background also helps to suggest the
time period because the music that is used is not used In our modern day.

• Lore Documentary
– Analysis- Lore is a factual Documentary that talks mainly about the
world around us and just things about our life in general and the
things that can effect it. The producer has not used many sound
effects throughout the podcast but has used music constantly
throughout to help add to the intensity of the podcast and to help
make the listener focus more on what is being said. For example
throughout this the music adds the idea of mystery especially by
the fact that the interment being used is a piano, this helps to add
an even bigger effect because the way the piano is used makes a
sort of gloomy and dark song which helps to make the audience
feel how the producer wants them to feel and helps to grip the
audience and make them more likely to keep listening to the
podcast. The producers suggests a location and Time period by
literally saying where he is talking about and what era it was when
the event that he’s talking about happened.
Existing Products Research
• Short Cuts Documentary
– Analysis-Short Cuts is a casual factual Documentary that focuses on a range of
different topics however I’m specifically listening to the podcast called “Into the
woods”. In this podcast the producer has not used a large amount of music but
has used a range of different sound effects and has a range of people who talk
on it. However the producer has used a small amount of music when changing
topics and when the main two narrator’s speak or do the sections where they
say a poem. The producers have not really suggested a time period except
when one of the speakers talks about a photograph that they have from the
1900. The music that the producer has used goes with the sound effects and
the environment that the podcast is set in helping to suck the audience in,
make them feel like they are actually there and to also help them to relax which
I think is the main purpose for the podcast and which is why they have tried to
make the music and effects have a large effect on the tone and feel of the
podcast. I think that this podcast will appeal to their target audience because of
how relaxing it is and the effect it has on the audience. For example when
listening to this podcast the sound effects and music make you focus on what
the person is saying (in a relaxed smooth toned voice) instead of focusing on
anything else causing the podcast to have a larger effect on the listener.

Planning
Idea Generation/Initial Reaction
I think that I will be best at making a documentary/factual because I think I’ll be able to find a lot of
information about something related to this product and I will be able to use a range of different sound effects
and music in the making of the audio documentary which I think will make my product more appealing and will
just attract a larger audience overall. I will also try to make smooth transitions when I go from one peace of
information to another by using music or some sort of sound effect that goes with the theme of the
documentary. When talking I will mostly focus on talking about the main story and the facts about it however I
will try to compare it to other story's and events that are similar to it.
• Music in the background throughout the audio
• Have sound effects at the transitions of the information
• Talk about the roaming wrath
• Involve a range of different facts and information instead of just one
• Will have a beginning, middle and end in my audio so that I can spread the information out
Proposal
Working Title:
Name- The supernatural podcast
Audience:
The audience I'm targeting for my product will be people who are interested in supernatural things and who are
interested in horror events that have been thought to have actually happened. The age I will be mainly targeting will be
adults of all ages, will be for both male and female but will be targeted mainly for adults in the middle class because I
think adults in the middle class not only will find this the most appealing but I think that they will have the most spare
time to listen to them and will be able to afford items such as Spotify premium etc where the podcast might be
released. I have also targeted adults rather then any other age because I think they will find my podcast the most
appealing, will have the most time to listen to it and because I think younger audiences would find a topic like the one
I’m talking about rather boring or bland. I also think that my product would appeal to this age range the most because
when doing research I discovered that the majority of people who listen to Radio 4s podcast is adults looking for
something interesting and gripping to listen to rather then teenagers, I think that this also links in with the
psychographic part of my audience.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
I am going to making a documentary for my product and try to focus on supernatural events that have thought to have
actually happened. I will be mainly focusing on one supernatural event and compare it to a range of different events that
have happened and talk about my personal opinion as well as other peoples opinion. I needed to research a range of
different documenters that are both on YouTube and BBC Radio 4 so that I could get a range of different ideas and see what
documentary's are like on different programs. This will help me to make my product because I discover new ways to create
my audio project and features to add to it to make it more appealing to my audience.
Script (With Sound Effects)
Start- (intro music-volume decreases) Welcome to the supernatural podcast, if you’re a new listener then
let me explain what my podcast is actually about. On the supernatural podcast we talk about all sorts of
different supernatural events that have supposedly happened and try look at the facts and fictions of it as
well as comparing the event with many others that have occurred. (transition sound effect) On this episode
of the podcast we will be talking about the roaming wrath story that supposedly took place in a building
which is now a popular restaurant in York. (intro music-volume increases)
Middle- (music-volume decreases) (music will continue quietly in the background) On this episode I will be
talking about the Roaming Wrath story and try to compare it to other story's we might of heard of. So the
Roaming Wrath story is one of the very popular ghost story's in York that takes place in one of York's LA Pizza
Restaurants which apparently was the home of Marmaduke Buckle, a multiply physically handicapped man
in the 17th century, when he was alive he was allegedly accused of witchcraft because of this until one day
he couldn’t take it anymore. Marmaduke carved his initials, birth date 1697 and the days date 1715 on a
beam (knife sound effect/carving sound effect if possible) and ended his short tragic life by hanging himself
from the beam (throw rope sound effect). His ghost is alleged to still roam round both buildings and his
presence has even been accused of trying to push somebody down the stairs in the pub next door, although
it is said that he more usually closes doors and turns lights on and off. (light turning on sound effect)
(transition sound effect)
End- Anyway we’re sadly out of time for this episode but make sure to tune into the next episode of the
supernatural podcast where we will be talking about many other supernatural events. (creaking floor sound
effect) Make sure to leave a comment saying what you thought and what supernatural events you’ve
experienced and it might be on the next podcast! (intro music-volume decreases)

Research
• I think one of the strengths of my research is that I have used a range of different
products of audio so that I can get a range of ideas and information from them to
improve my product and make it stand out from others. I think this strength also helps
to gain ideas on how to attract a wide range of people to my product helping to make
my product more attractive and more likely to get more peoples attention.
• I think one of the weaknesses of my research is that I haven't really talked about the
tone and feel of the existing products meaning that I will be lacking on that information
when making my product.
• I think that my research helped my product because like I said before it helped to collect
a wide range of ideas and help to make my product more appealing and attractive to a
wide range of people. However I also think my research helped my product because it
allowed me to get a good idea on how to layout my podcast, what I would say in my
podcast and sound effects and features that I could add to my product to impact the
audience much more then it would if I didn’t have any sound effects.
• I think to improve my research I could of talked in more detail about the range of
different products so that I could make my product more detailed and possibly get a
much more appealing and different idea to others that already exist so that my product
is more appealing to more people. I think this would overall just have made my product
stand out more to others.
Planning
• I think one of the strength of my planning was that I have got the layout of the script in
a certain way so that I know where certain sound effects will go, so I know where to talk
about each subject and how I will change it to make sure my product will be appealing
to my audience.
• I think one of the weaknesses of my planning is that I think I should of found a larger
amount of sound effects so that when it came to putting my sound effects in I would
have a larger choice and be able to have more sound effects in my podcast to make the
podcast more interesting to my audience and to get their attention. I also think another
one of the weaknesses of my planning is that I got my sound effects off YouTube
because this means that the sound effects might not fit in with my podcast as well as if I
recorded the sound effects myself.
• I think the planning helped my product because it meant that I could focus on how
many sound effects that I would need, where I would put them in my script and where
about they are going to go in my podcast where the sound effects will effect the
audience the most and effect the tone of the podcast to make it more interesting and
appealing.
• To improve/make my product better I could of used a range of different sound effects
that are both found online and also recorded by me so that I am able to compare each
recordings and see which ones are better for my product overall and would make my
product as appealing as possible. I also think this would help to make my product stand
out more to other competitors.
Time Management
• I think for this project I did manage my time well for some aspects of my work
however I think there was other aspects where I didn’t manage my time well. For
example I think I managed my research and planning time well however I think that
I didn’t manage my production time well. I do also think that I should of organised
the creation of my product so that if I had any setbacks It wouldn't effect my
deadline.
• I did complete my product in time however I think that I could improve my product
more if I had more time to go back and add more. For example if I had more time I
would of added more/different sound effects to my podcast so that the tone of my
podcast has a much larger effect on the listener. If I also had more time to edit my
audio I would of changed my script so that there was a range of different
information but not so much that my audio goes past 2minutes long while also
fitting in a range of different information that is appealing to my target audience
and helps to add to the tone and topic of the podcast.
Technical Qualities
• I think in some aspects my product has similarities to existing products for example I think
that my product is very similar to the podcast “Lore” which is one of the podcasts I
researched before making my product. I would say that the similarities of my product and the
existing are the ways we have laid out our podcast and the sound effect that we have used
however I think some of the differences are things like the microphone quality, the speed the
host talks and how on the existing product the host does’t stutter whereas I do. This could be
because their podcast is a professional podcast so they have expensive equipment such as a
special microphone, padding round the room they’re in so that there is less echo and they
have been making podcasts for much longer then I have so they know more about what to
do and are less likely to stutter etc. Another key difference of our podcasts is that the existing
product is roughly about 40 minutes long allowing the host to talk about a lot more and are
able to take their time when reading whereas I had to make a podcast that was 2 minutes
long at the very most meaning I had to fit a large information in such little time this caused
me to have to pick out certain information that I thought was best and meant that I wasn’t
able to do some of the ideas that I wanted to do. Overall I think that my work was not
detailed enough because of the amount of time we had to fit our information in because it
meant that we couldn't talk about anything in depth. For example in the podcast I would
bring up an idea in the podcast but I wouldn't be able to talk about why I think that and the
information behind it because I wouldn't have enough time so I would have to just go straight
to the next idea/story.
Technical Qualities
• On my product I also added a range of different effects so that my product would be more
interesting to my target audience and would make them more effected by the tone of the
podcast. For example when talking about the ghost carving his names in the beam I added a
sound effect of someone caving wood so that the audience feels like they’re actually there
and to help grab their attention. When making my product I used an app on my phone called
voice recorder to record me reading the script however I used YouTube to find the sound
effects that I needed for my podcast because with most of them I would not be able to get
them by myself.
Aural Qualities
I think that my work could of sounded a lot better if I had more time to record my audio and if I
had more experience with making them. For example in my audio there is moments where I
would stutter or pause making my podcast seem less professional and possibly making my
product less appealing to the target audience. Although I think that my project was creative
because its not like many other existing products, for example very few podcasts talk about
supernatural events and in my product I used a range of different sound effects to not only make
my podcast more appealing but to also make it more creative and different to other podcasts
that could be potential competitors. If I could improve my Aural Qualities in any way I would
make sure to re-record my script without any stuttering or pauses that are not needed as well as
making sure that I don’t talk too fast when reading my script so that the podcast is smooth and
is more professional. To do this I would practice my script a lot more and record myself
multipole times so that if one doesn't work then I have others that I can use instead.
I think one of the strengths of my Aural Qualities is the sound effects and music that I’ve used
because the sound effects and music add a lot more to my project. For example the music and
sound effects help to make the audio more gripping and can make the podcast have a larger
effect on the listener making them want to listen more.

  • 3. Research- If you are unable to find your own examples, you can use the ones below. • The Archers (audio drama) • https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qpgr/episodes/player • Short Cuts (documentary/factual) • https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01mk3f8/episodes/player • Lore (documentary/factual) • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3RGz7Q_qlI • Doctor Who (audio drama) • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZA50biqUB-8 • Soundscapes • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIUTO4gx5Eg • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JVm2IZ3ChU • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nc5YHodcXpM DELETE THIS SLIDE WHEN DONE
  • 4. Existing Products Research • The Archers Analysis- The Archers is an audio drama that takes place in a twenty first century village with all the pressures of modern rural life. The sound effects and music in the audio help to show the audience that this is where the drama takes place as well as making them feel like they are actually there and with the characters. For example when the scene changes or its taking place in a different environment the narrator will say so or the characters will have a transition. For example a character might say that they are going somewhere and once they do the audio will play the sound of footsteps walking on whatever sort of terrain is at that environment. The producers have helped to suggest a time period/location and created a tone/feel by focusing on what sound effects they use and what their voice actors say very carefully. For example when characters I talking to one another there isn’t often a lot of background noise meaning that the characters must be somewhere that isn’t busy like a city or town and helping to give the audience a feel of intensity or to be more in touch with what the characters are saying and feel how they’re feeling instead of focusing on what's going on in the background. This can also help to effect the tone because when things happen such as two characters arguing then the listener will be more focused on the tone and the tone will have a bigger effect on them. However the producers have still added a few subtle sound effects in the background to help the listener know where the scene is taking place if they don’t already know like adding bird noises, farm animal noises and other things such as gates and weather to help add to the environment and not only help the listener know where they are but make the listener feel like they’re actually there with the characters. The music that is used for the transitions and in the background also helps to suggest the time period because the music that is used is not used In our modern day.
  • 5. Existing Products Research • Lore Documentary – Analysis- Lore is a factual Documentary that talks mainly about the world around us and just things about our life in general and the things that can effect it. The producer has not used many sound effects throughout the podcast but has used music constantly throughout to help add to the intensity of the podcast and to help make the listener focus more on what is being said. For example throughout this the music adds the idea of mystery especially by the fact that the interment being used is a piano, this helps to add an even bigger effect because the way the piano is used makes a sort of gloomy and dark song which helps to make the audience feel how the producer wants them to feel and helps to grip the audience and make them more likely to keep listening to the podcast. The producers suggests a location and Time period by literally saying where he is talking about and what era it was when the event that he’s talking about happened.
  • 6. Existing Products Research • Short Cuts Documentary – Analysis-Short Cuts is a casual factual Documentary that focuses on a range of different topics however I’m specifically listening to the podcast called “Into the woods”. In this podcast the producer has not used a large amount of music but has used a range of different sound effects and has a range of people who talk on it. However the producer has used a small amount of music when changing topics and when the main two narrator’s speak or do the sections where they say a poem. The producers have not really suggested a time period except when one of the speakers talks about a photograph that they have from the 1900. The music that the producer has used goes with the sound effects and the environment that the podcast is set in helping to suck the audience in, make them feel like they are actually there and to also help them to relax which I think is the main purpose for the podcast and which is why they have tried to make the music and effects have a large effect on the tone and feel of the podcast. I think that this podcast will appeal to their target audience because of how relaxing it is and the effect it has on the audience. For example when listening to this podcast the sound effects and music make you focus on what the person is saying (in a relaxed smooth toned voice) instead of focusing on anything else causing the podcast to have a larger effect on the listener.

  • 9. Idea Generation/Initial Reaction I think that I will be best at making a documentary/factual because I think I’ll be able to find a lot of information about something related to this product and I will be able to use a range of different sound effects and music in the making of the audio documentary which I think will make my product more appealing and will just attract a larger audience overall. I will also try to make smooth transitions when I go from one peace of information to another by using music or some sort of sound effect that goes with the theme of the documentary. When talking I will mostly focus on talking about the main story and the facts about it however I will try to compare it to other story's and events that are similar to it. • Music in the background throughout the audio • Have sound effects at the transitions of the information • Talk about the roaming wrath • Involve a range of different facts and information instead of just one • Will have a beginning, middle and end in my audio so that I can spread the information out
  • 10. Proposal Working Title: Name- The supernatural podcast Audience: The audience I'm targeting for my product will be people who are interested in supernatural things and who are interested in horror events that have been thought to have actually happened. The age I will be mainly targeting will be adults of all ages, will be for both male and female but will be targeted mainly for adults in the middle class because I think adults in the middle class not only will find this the most appealing but I think that they will have the most spare time to listen to them and will be able to afford items such as Spotify premium etc where the podcast might be released. I have also targeted adults rather then any other age because I think they will find my podcast the most appealing, will have the most time to listen to it and because I think younger audiences would find a topic like the one I’m talking about rather boring or bland. I also think that my product would appeal to this age range the most because when doing research I discovered that the majority of people who listen to Radio 4s podcast is adults looking for something interesting and gripping to listen to rather then teenagers, I think that this also links in with the psychographic part of my audience. Project Concept (approx. 200 words) I am going to making a documentary for my product and try to focus on supernatural events that have thought to have actually happened. I will be mainly focusing on one supernatural event and compare it to a range of different events that have happened and talk about my personal opinion as well as other peoples opinion. I needed to research a range of different documenters that are both on YouTube and BBC Radio 4 so that I could get a range of different ideas and see what documentary's are like on different programs. This will help me to make my product because I discover new ways to create my audio project and features to add to it to make it more appealing to my audience.
  • 11. Script (With Sound Effects) Start- (intro music-volume decreases) Welcome to the supernatural podcast, if you’re a new listener then let me explain what my podcast is actually about. On the supernatural podcast we talk about all sorts of different supernatural events that have supposedly happened and try look at the facts and fictions of it as well as comparing the event with many others that have occurred. (transition sound effect) On this episode of the podcast we will be talking about the roaming wrath story that supposedly took place in a building which is now a popular restaurant in York. (intro music-volume increases) Middle- (music-volume decreases) (music will continue quietly in the background) On this episode I will be talking about the Roaming Wrath story and try to compare it to other story's we might of heard of. So the Roaming Wrath story is one of the very popular ghost story's in York that takes place in one of York's LA Pizza Restaurants which apparently was the home of Marmaduke Buckle, a multiply physically handicapped man in the 17th century, when he was alive he was allegedly accused of witchcraft because of this until one day he couldn’t take it anymore. Marmaduke carved his initials, birth date 1697 and the days date 1715 on a beam (knife sound effect/carving sound effect if possible) and ended his short tragic life by hanging himself from the beam (throw rope sound effect). His ghost is alleged to still roam round both buildings and his presence has even been accused of trying to push somebody down the stairs in the pub next door, although it is said that he more usually closes doors and turns lights on and off. (light turning on sound effect) (transition sound effect) End- Anyway we’re sadly out of time for this episode but make sure to tune into the next episode of the supernatural podcast where we will be talking about many other supernatural events. (creaking floor sound effect) Make sure to leave a comment saying what you thought and what supernatural events you’ve experienced and it might be on the next podcast! (intro music-volume decreases)

  • 23. Research • I think one of the strengths of my research is that I have used a range of different products of audio so that I can get a range of ideas and information from them to improve my product and make it stand out from others. I think this strength also helps to gain ideas on how to attract a wide range of people to my product helping to make my product more attractive and more likely to get more peoples attention. • I think one of the weaknesses of my research is that I haven't really talked about the tone and feel of the existing products meaning that I will be lacking on that information when making my product. • I think that my research helped my product because like I said before it helped to collect a wide range of ideas and help to make my product more appealing and attractive to a wide range of people. However I also think my research helped my product because it allowed me to get a good idea on how to layout my podcast, what I would say in my podcast and sound effects and features that I could add to my product to impact the audience much more then it would if I didn’t have any sound effects. • I think to improve my research I could of talked in more detail about the range of different products so that I could make my product more detailed and possibly get a much more appealing and different idea to others that already exist so that my product is more appealing to more people. I think this would overall just have made my product stand out more to others.
  • 24. Planning • I think one of the strength of my planning was that I have got the layout of the script in a certain way so that I know where certain sound effects will go, so I know where to talk about each subject and how I will change it to make sure my product will be appealing to my audience. • I think one of the weaknesses of my planning is that I think I should of found a larger amount of sound effects so that when it came to putting my sound effects in I would have a larger choice and be able to have more sound effects in my podcast to make the podcast more interesting to my audience and to get their attention. I also think another one of the weaknesses of my planning is that I got my sound effects off YouTube because this means that the sound effects might not fit in with my podcast as well as if I recorded the sound effects myself. • I think the planning helped my product because it meant that I could focus on how many sound effects that I would need, where I would put them in my script and where about they are going to go in my podcast where the sound effects will effect the audience the most and effect the tone of the podcast to make it more interesting and appealing. • To improve/make my product better I could of used a range of different sound effects that are both found online and also recorded by me so that I am able to compare each recordings and see which ones are better for my product overall and would make my product as appealing as possible. I also think this would help to make my product stand out more to other competitors.
  • 25. Time Management • I think for this project I did manage my time well for some aspects of my work however I think there was other aspects where I didn’t manage my time well. For example I think I managed my research and planning time well however I think that I didn’t manage my production time well. I do also think that I should of organised the creation of my product so that if I had any setbacks It wouldn't effect my deadline. • I did complete my product in time however I think that I could improve my product more if I had more time to go back and add more. For example if I had more time I would of added more/different sound effects to my podcast so that the tone of my podcast has a much larger effect on the listener. If I also had more time to edit my audio I would of changed my script so that there was a range of different information but not so much that my audio goes past 2minutes long while also fitting in a range of different information that is appealing to my target audience and helps to add to the tone and topic of the podcast.
  • 26. Technical Qualities • I think in some aspects my product has similarities to existing products for example I think that my product is very similar to the podcast “Lore” which is one of the podcasts I researched before making my product. I would say that the similarities of my product and the existing are the ways we have laid out our podcast and the sound effect that we have used however I think some of the differences are things like the microphone quality, the speed the host talks and how on the existing product the host does’t stutter whereas I do. This could be because their podcast is a professional podcast so they have expensive equipment such as a special microphone, padding round the room they’re in so that there is less echo and they have been making podcasts for much longer then I have so they know more about what to do and are less likely to stutter etc. Another key difference of our podcasts is that the existing product is roughly about 40 minutes long allowing the host to talk about a lot more and are able to take their time when reading whereas I had to make a podcast that was 2 minutes long at the very most meaning I had to fit a large information in such little time this caused me to have to pick out certain information that I thought was best and meant that I wasn’t able to do some of the ideas that I wanted to do. Overall I think that my work was not detailed enough because of the amount of time we had to fit our information in because it meant that we couldn't talk about anything in depth. For example in the podcast I would bring up an idea in the podcast but I wouldn't be able to talk about why I think that and the information behind it because I wouldn't have enough time so I would have to just go straight to the next idea/story.
  • 27. Technical Qualities • On my product I also added a range of different effects so that my product would be more interesting to my target audience and would make them more effected by the tone of the podcast. For example when talking about the ghost carving his names in the beam I added a sound effect of someone caving wood so that the audience feels like they’re actually there and to help grab their attention. When making my product I used an app on my phone called voice recorder to record me reading the script however I used YouTube to find the sound effects that I needed for my podcast because with most of them I would not be able to get them by myself.
  • 28. Aural Qualities I think that my work could of sounded a lot better if I had more time to record my audio and if I had more experience with making them. For example in my audio there is moments where I would stutter or pause making my podcast seem less professional and possibly making my product less appealing to the target audience. Although I think that my project was creative because its not like many other existing products, for example very few podcasts talk about supernatural events and in my product I used a range of different sound effects to not only make my podcast more appealing but to also make it more creative and different to other podcasts that could be potential competitors. If I could improve my Aural Qualities in any way I would make sure to re-record my script without any stuttering or pauses that are not needed as well as making sure that I don’t talk too fast when reading my script so that the podcast is smooth and is more professional. To do this I would practice my script a lot more and record myself multipole times so that if one doesn't work then I have others that I can use instead. I think one of the strengths of my Aural Qualities is the sound effects and music that I’ve used because the sound effects and music add a lot more to my project. For example the music and sound effects help to make the audio more gripping and can make the podcast have a larger effect on the listener making them want to listen more.
