Research
For my research I looked into existing products such as my personal interests that are
yogpod and ear biscuits. I then researched a BBC product that I needed to look at which
was called short cuts. I researched the positive and the negative aspects of each product
and I also looked at the backgrounds.
• I think the strength of my research is that I have found many details in each podcast
such as there jingles, music, sound effects, editing and there technology. I also
researched there structure of there videos and each are very different allowing me to
adapt to all different verity of technique. Which I also think is good is that two of my
research I listen too making it easier to adapt to.
• I think the weaknesses of my research I that I haven't researched more different radio
show other than short cuts. I mostly researched on podcast which shows that I haven't
learnt from other types of radio shows. Also shortcuts is one radio I didn't’t understand
and disliked making it harder to research so I didn't’t put as much detail as I did with
the podcasts.
Overall I think this research helped me as they inspired me on what I should do such as the
humour, the editing and the scripting. They also had pros and cons which I adapted to for
my product. I also looked into the technology they used for their podcasts which allowed
me to understand what technology would work for me.
Planning
My initial Plans was my first step to making my final project as it helped me gather
all my ideas into a mind map. This is where I looked into making either a ghost
story, podcast or movie review. I listed what ideas I can make out of each radio
show so that I can choose which I like best. I ended up choosing both ghost story
and podcast so I made another mind map to go in more detail. For my pre-
production I looked into sound effects, music, props and health and safety. I also
made a structured time table for what I do each day.
• I think the strength of my research is that I have put many details for each
page in order make my project work and that I have made links to everything
such as sound and music as a backup.
• I think the weaknesses of this is that I planed to ambitious which made it hard
to make especially with the time limit.
This researched helped me a lot as it made me ready for my projected and it gave
me back up links so that if I lost any of the sounds ill just follow the link however
my planning was too ambitious making my project way over an hour.
Time Management
For timing I made a good time table for what I do each day in my preproduction so
that I can follow it making it easier for me. For the first day I had to find ghost
story which took a lot of time as there are not many good short scary stories that
we can talk about and it had to short so that I make the podcast no longer than
five minutes. For the second day I managed to write the whole script quick
enough and was ready to make record my intro.
For the third day I needed to edit the intro with music however I wanted to record
the story telling and the reviewing and leave the editing for last which goes
against my timetable. I managed to record the reviewing which took quite some
time as my friends didn’t listen to the story so we had to re record the reviewing.
The story telling recording was corrupted so I left that for the final day and
focused on editing the intro. On the fourth and final day there was a problem as
my recording would not show up on audition as it was on a mac and I created the
audition save on a windows computer. I had to ask my tutor to bring me a
windows laptop so I could edit my work. After I finished editing my intro and
outro I went on to record my ghost story. Finally i spent the next hours editing. I
managed to finish on time.
Technical Qualities
SUNRISE
Horror special
My project
I think my podcast has many differences and similarities to the podcast yogpod.
The yogpod has a verity of different topics but I will be focusing on there Halloween specials
The yogpod keeps the Halloween feeling constant as they keep paying Halloween
like jingles and music making it suit the episode. This is very similar to mine as all my
songs have a 8 bit theme and they are all related to fun horror songs like the Dracula
theme. However the my outro song isn’t a horror like song at all which differs to the
yogpod
The Halloween episode of the yogpod consists of Simon and Lewis telling
each other scary stories and bantering about after which gives relatable
feeling to the audience.
This can be similar to mine as I tell a scary story and me and my friends
banter about it after while also reviewing it. However I only read one big
story while the yogpod read short stories which they took turns saying.
The yogpod could
read many stories
comfortably as they
have a lot of time in
there hands to tell
each one and talk
about them
however I didn’t any
time so that meant I
had to find a good
short enough story
which would be
scary and
interesting enough
to talk about.
The yogpods intro is
very similar to mine as
they start by introducing
the audience with a
humorous villain laugh
following a thunder
which creates a comedic
tone just like I did. The
intro also ends with a
Halloween song like I did
with the Dracula theme.
Aural Qualities
• What I mostly like about my radio project is my intro
especially the editing. For example for my intro I say
“welcome to sunrise horror special” (evil laugh) which
doesn't’t sound very compelling and interesting however
when I edited it it made it sound more professional and
radio like. I edited the “welcome to sunrise” part with a
slight echo and the increased the echo with “horror
special”(evil laugh) part. I also made it a chore like sound.
After the evil laugh I then added a thunder sound effect
before playing the chip tune Dracula theme which creates a
more comedic horror vibe. I also really liked how I edited
the horror story section with sound effects such as wind to
create an atmosphere and running footsteps to fit the story
however the actual story telling was not very professional.
This is because my story was far too long and I had made
too many mistakes while reading which is to difficult to edit
out. My reading was very dull and not entertaining as had
to read it twice because the first recording was corrupted.
To improve my work I think I should book a studio in order
to make a things more relaxed and that it I can record
everything at once. Also I think I should find a more shorter
story so that I can emphasise my reading and not make any
mistakes.
Audience Appeal
My audience’s age range should be 15-20 as we have strong language and the hosts of
the podcasts are around 16-18, which means the humour would relate around that age.
The story is quite dark and a younger audience may be too scared. It could be for both
genders as the ghost story will effect both genders in the same way however all the hosts
are male which could mean that the humour would be different but the podcast leans
more towards the story. The psychographic should be for belonger as my podcast isnt
about changing mankind nor achieving dreams and goals. Instead it will be very local and
will be for enjoyable reasons. My podcast will be for any region however the hosts live
and Britain which means the humour and slang will be different however the story is for
the audiences imagination which means they can picture the scenario of the story to be
anywhere. The social class would be class E as I think they would be the most relatable
and suitable for my podcast. It is for those who are local, casual and have a lot of time in
their hands in their hands which suit class E.

Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
– I agree to most things that my peers feedbacks as they
have explained in explained in detail of what I need to
improve with is the story section. For example they
have all said something similar about my and that is
that my reading was not exaggerated enough and it
sounded quite dull.
– What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– I honestly don’t disagree as I thought the same way as
I said on my my aural qualities page.
Peer Feedback Summary
The feedback I got were very similar as all of them talk about similar solutions for me
to improve. For example feedback 1 claims that my voice sounds robotic and needs to
be more dramatic, feed back 2 states I need to exaggerate my reading and feedback 3
says there was quite a lot of mistakes made in the story which I should improve. All
these are similar as they all talk about my story telling which I agree on as they have a
point. To improve my story telling I will find a shorter story which will be easier to read
without boring and I will be able to make a more dramatic voice.
They all talk about different aspects they like about my product which shows that my
product was mostly good. Feedback 1 says that my idea was good and unique,
feedback 2 says that it was scary and it put him on the edge of the sheet and feedback
3 likes the intro and the outro as the editing sounds professional especially the scary
sound effects i added to the story. This shows that there are may different aspects
that people like and that my story telling was the only issue about my project.
