2. INTRODUCTION
Surfactant are used to reduced the surface
tension in a liquid in which it is dissolved.
There are two distinct regions in their chemical structure:
HYDROPHILIC (water liking)
HYDROPHOBIC(water hating)
Tailhead
3. SURFACE ACTIVE AGENT
Molecules contains polar and non-polar portions
called surface active agent/surfactant.
Surfactant interact with both the polar and non-
polar molecules
An aggregate of molecules in a colloidal solution
called micelle
The critical micelle concentration (CMC) is defined as
the concentration of surfactants above
which micelles form and all additional surfactants
added to the system go to micelles.
7. APPLICATION
Surfactant play an important role as:
Wetting
Cleaning
Dispersing
Emulsifying
Foaming & anti foaming agents etc.
These are used in many practical applications &
products: Cosmetic , detergent , emulsion , insecticides,
ink etc.
