2. DaFont
During my search for a font for the title –Senseless– of our film poster, I came
across the website “dafont.com”.
It has multiple different themes or genres as well as sub-genres
of fonts which helped me further find the perfect font for my
poster. For example, in the ‘Fancy’ sector there are ‘Horror’
fonts, in the ‘Script’ section there are ‘Handwritten’ fonts and
in the ‘Holiday’ division there are ‘Halloween’ style fonts.
Therefore, I decided to choose this website to determine a font
because others, including fonts I already have installed, do not
offer fonts of such quality.
3. Font Options (Handwritten)
The reason I have chosen the following fonts is because the handwritten style
connotes our main character, Mila’s insecure mental state.
Spring Races;
https://www.dafont.com/springraces.font?text=Senseless&psize=l
Jesse 5;
https://www.dafont.com/jesse-5.font?text=SENSELESS&psize=l&back=theme
Though this font’s
unusualness may seem
appealing for our film, it
seems too forced and
thus unnatural.
This font also seemed very
good at first but soon
resembled a worthy option
for a film such as Flubber
(1997).
4. Font Options (Handwritten)
Child Serial Killer;
https://www.dafont.com/child-serial-killer.font?text=Senseless&psize=l
Ink Pen;
https://www.dafont.com/inkpen.font?text=Senseless&psize=l
To add, this font is good
too but unfortunately
gives off a child-like
sense.
This font
resembles that
which one may
find for writing
a letter or
‘Mother!’
(2017), hence
could give off
the wrong
impression.
5. Font Options (Handwritten)
Another Danger;
https://www.dafont.com/another-danger.font?text=SENSELESS&psize=l&back=theme
Butcher The Baker;
https://www.dafont.com/butcher-the-baker.font?text=Senseless&psize=l&back=theme
This font coveys the
aforementioned
connotations as well as
the fact that our film
contains some bloody
scenes.
This font is appealing for our film
because of the style and could
become better with some editing, i.e.
changing the text red as it would
resemble blood and give off the
impression Mila wrote in blood.
Thus, in turn her instability.
6. Font Options (Handwritten)
Sweet Revenge;
https://www.dafont.com/sweet-revenge-2.font?text=SENSELESS&back=theme
Cabanyal Z;
https://www.dafont.com/cabanyalz.font?text=SENSELESS&psize=l&back=theme
Again, though this font has potential, it
seems too forced.
The fact that this font
could have been perfect
yet is not because of the
slight lines out of place (in
the sense that it is the
opposite of ‘line art’)
conveys Mila’s instability.
7. Oh No;
https://www.dafont.com/oh-no.font?text=SENSELESS&psize=l&back=theme
Magical Springtime;
https://www.dafont.com/magicalspringtime.font?text=SENSELESS&psize=l&back=theme
The splatter effect could
easily be edited to look
like blood and the
imperfections portray
Mila’s instability.
Again, though this font has potential, it
could be perceived as too forced.
However, this could be used to our
advantage as it could show the
difference between the two identities of
Mila.
8. Slasha;
https://www.dafont.com/slasha.font?text=SENSELESS&psize=l&back=theme
Spooky Halloween;
https://www.dafont.com/spooky-halloween.font?text=Senseless&psize=l&back=theme
The way the letters
have been formed
could resemble self-
harm, and though
Mila does not do
that act her other
self is harming her.
The way in
which the
first ‘S’ is
unlike the
rest here
portrays the
notion that
something is
out of place;
there is
something
wrong with
Mila.
9. Font Options (Handwritten)
Chiken Skratch;
i)
i)
https://www.dafont.com/chiken-skratch.font?text=Senseless&psize=l&back=theme
Again, self-harm could be
conveyed through this,
hence the name ‘Skratch’,
but it does not exactly suit
as it may remind one of
alchemy/witches or
Scarecrows and so one
which is not related to our
film.
10. Font Options (Handwritten)
Gymnastik;
https://www.dafont.com/gymnastik.font?text=SeNSeLeSS&psize=l
Mia’s Scribblings;
https://www.dafont.com/mias-scribblings.font?text=SeNSeLeSS&psize=l
Again, although the messy
strokes and handwriting
help connote Mila’s
instability, it also portrays
a child-like effect which
we do not want.
Whereas, this
font’s unique
assortment of
lower and upper
case letters- only
the vowels are
lower case- and
messiness
portray Mila’s
state correctly.
11. Other Font Options
The reason I have chosen the following fonts is because they portray the genre of
the film effectively and may also link to certain scenes of the film as well as the
poster itself.
Satanyc Demoniac St;
https://www.dafont.com/satanyc-demoniac-st.font?text=Senseless&psize=l&back=theme
Black Asylum;
https://www.dafont.com/black-asylum.font?text=Senseless&psize=l&back=theme
I like this font a lot as
the spikes could be
perceived as blood or
horns and thus
portray danger and
Mila’s evil side.
This font gives off 1973’s The
Exorcist vibes and seems like it
has been revealed or created
from being scratched and shows
Mila’s struggle and instability.
12. Other Font Options
Fuehrer;
i)
ii)
https://www.dafont.com/fuehrer.font?text=Senseless&psize=l&back=theme
Although these two fonts are
the same, the uppercase
option makes a lot of
difference as it portrays a
higher sense of danger and
evil. Whereas, the first option
could portray minimal danger
due to the small lowercase
letters. Nevertheless, both are
very good.
(This font
may also
remind one of
film fonts like
Insidious’.)
13. Other Font Options
Organic Fear;
https://www.dafont.com/organic-fear.font?text=SENSELESS&psize=l&back=theme
Forbid Nothing;
https://www.dafont.com/forbid-nothing.font?text=SENSELESS&psize=l&back=theme
Though appealing it does not
really portray our film
correctly as it resembles
loose stitches and a child-
like or fantasy, fairytale film
like Pan’s Labyrinth (2006).
Again, although this font has potential as
the font itself looks ‘senseless’ it does not
portray the genre effectively. However, this
could change with editing, i.e. adding a
blur effect to the edges of the letters and
changing the colour and so on.
14. Pencil Shading;
https://www.dafont.com/pencil-shading.font?text=senseless&fpp=100&psize=l
Troupers;
https://www.dafont.com/troupers.font?text=senseless&fpp=100&psize=l
Other Font Options
This font’s
shading could
portray Mila’s
instable
mental state
but seems to
clean and
‘forced’.
Though this could be used for a film of the
psychological (sub/) genre, it does not
convey the horror genre and has a rather
‘groovy’ effect than chilling. However, the
small white areas on the letters such as the
on the ’N’ (where it looks like there is a
crack or it has been broken) could suggest
otherwise, and make this font appropriate
for our poster.
15. Other Font Options
CF One Two Trees;
i)
ii)
https://www.dafont.com/cf-one-two-trees.font?text=Senseless&psize=l&back=theme
Even though the font
matches the background
of the poster- the forest-
it may give the
impression that our film
is related to trees and is
set in the woods when its
main setting is actually a
house. It also gives off
the same impression as
the font ‘Organic Fear’
from the previous slide.
