2. Font inspiration
Through the textual analysis we
have done of different posters and
DPS’s we have come to the
conclusion that maybe something
minimalistic for the font of the name
of our film will be the best. These
two film have very similar fonts for
their poster. The connotations we
found them is that nothing is really
expected, it is not obviously a
horror film. By the use of a
simplistic font we will be connoting
the unexpected and unknown, the
audience will be more shocked
about the powerful image.
3. DAFONT
Dafont is a popular website that has
loads of different types for fonts. The
name of our production is Ava and so far
we like these 3 fonts as they are
simplistic and don't really give away that
the film would be a horror, because that
is what we want to do with the photos on
the poster and DPS.
The first one is called Typewriter
Condensed, the fact that it is typewritten
connotes that it might have taken place
in the past, connotes that maybe the
story being told is old, it happened years
ago. The same happens with the second
one, Cella, it also connotes oldness and
this links to our narrative as the story the
girl is telling is happening in the past.
This type of font will help the audience
to recognise the difference between
present and past.
This sorry not sorry font is also
simplistic and would go with the
narrative, however, I feel like it is not
implying anything and doesn't link to
the narrative in any way like the ones
above are.
4. DAFONT
Another more different font we have liked from Dafont
is October Crow. It is still simplistic but has more horror
connotations as the ends are sharp, signifying danger
and how harmful someone’s personality can be very
dangerous and hurtful.
5. Which one is our favourite?
Our favourite font from the ones fund on Dafont is October
Crow, it is the one that looks the oldest and that we think
suits our narrative the best. However, this font won't be the
definite yet. After more research on fonts and where the
name of our film will go on the poster we will make a
decision.
6. Our own font From all the fonts we liked on
Dafont, we have designed
some that are similar that could
be used for our production. In
my opinion all the letters in
lower case would give the
poster a better aesthetic, it can
connote that the story isn't
finished and therefore can still
impact people like it impacts the
girls telling ghost stories. Even
though I like the fonts, doing
our own might take a while and
I am not completely happy with
how they look, therefore we will
probably be using a
regenerated in from Dafont.
7. Colours
We are thinking to use a controversial colour for the name of our
film. White is a colour that connotes purity and innocence and
does not really suit a horror film as such. However, by using it
we are playing with the different characters, the white will link
with the innocence of the young girls that will be surrounding by
danger as the background might be black.
8. The doll
We have finally decided that we will be including a doll in our film
as research and survey results have encouraged us to do so. So
our idea is to have a doll present in every shot very subtly in
order for the secondary more sophisticated audience to work out
why it is there and gain intellectual pleasure. This idea has also
come from the fact that the film Annabelle was so successful
and it is about a doll, it is a mass market film and we could
therefore use the presence of the doll to attract the younger
mainstream audience.
