There was not a dramatic shift in the ratios between the years of 1998 to 2000. There was however a

Just ten years later, janitors once again marched for an increase in their wages. The city still had to
confront all the issues related to poverty and wages, so the workers decided that their best option for
them to be heard, was through a march (Meyerson, 2000). As the marchers began to walk down
Wilshire Boulevard from downtown to Century City, they experience many surprises. As they
walked the cars kept honking at them, not become of anger, but because they were trying to signal
their support for the movement (Meyerson, 2000). As the movement continued, there was a lot more
support then what they believed they would get. Elected officials came out and stood on the flatbed
truck leading the parade, to signal their support (Meyerson, 2000). This march was very different in

help a wide range of people with their problems are physical, occupational, and speech therapies.

The other type of therapy that may deal some with injuries is occupational therapy. Enhancing fine
motor skills is the focus of this therapy. Occupational therapists set a goal for their patients which
enables them to have more "independent, productive, and satisfying lives" by teaching them how to
perform daily functions without the aid of others. Some of these functions may include eating,
getting dressed, or using the bathroom. Exercises that improve balance, coordination, trunk control,
dexterity, and basic muscle movement are used towards a person's road to an easier lifestyle.
Occupational therapists work mainly with people who have disabilities. These may include people
with spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, or people who have had a stroke

Occupational therapy is my current major of study, so I am doing volunteer work for several
therapists right now at Parent–Child Services in West Knoxville. It is very interesting to sit and
observe each session. I am presently observing a four–year–old victim of near drowning who was
thought to be dead, but was brought back to life. His focus is on balance and coordination right now.
I am also observing a child with cerebral palsy. He is one of my favorite children to work with. He is

machines (MRI's), and heart defibrillators. One of the most important biomedical devices that could
be affected by the Y2K problem is the pacemaker. A pacemaker is a biomedical, electronic device
implanted in the wall of the heart designed to detect irregular heartbeats and provide regular, mild,
electric shocks that restore normalcy to the heartbeat. The pacemaker then records the time an
electric shock was administered; this information can then be downloaded to a computer system and
analyzed by medical personnel. Cardiologists use this information to detect patterns and
irregularities in the patient's heart rhythms. If the software were to record faulty times for the shock
deliveries, the cardiologist could misinterpret the results and administer improper medical care. The
results could be deadly for some patients. The Veteran's Administration interviewed the top five
pacemaker manufacturers to gauge their awareness of the potentially hazardous Y2K problem. One
company said the problem would be corrected by mid–year; two companies stated the problem was
already under control; and the final two companies were behind schedule in eradicate the problem.

Discrimination against African–Americans has been going on for many decades. Many African–
Americans are still suffering from the effects of this. Many people who discriminate do not bother to
analyze the damage that this is causing. Many African–Americans are suffering from stress
problems, mental health issue, and some suffer from chronic stress. This issue has escalated for
many years now and instead of it getting any better it is taking a turn for the worse.
Introduction
There are many types of discrimination that exist in U.S. society, but the most common type of
discrimination is towards African–Americans. Even though we think that discrimination of race has
been extinct for many years there is still discrimination in our everyday lives. Discrimination in an
African–American's life leads to high stress levels, which then in turn leads to physical and mental
health problems. These health issues effect the lives of the victims as well as those of their family
members. When people are being discriminated against on a daily basis, the victim's self–esteem is
lowered. Many African–Americans who get discriminated against can have mental health problems
or have low self–esteem. African–Americans who experience discrimination report lower levels of
personal well–being, lower levels of mastery, and higher levels of psychological problems

The mass media's panic reporting is to make the people aware of the problem, then to include
reliable outcomes for its effects, and finally to provide reliable expert information on how to deal
with the problem and lessen negative expectations as was supposed to happen in the y2k reporting
but unfortunately did not happen.
One of the first steps the media take to make the people aware is to say the problem. The three most
commonly used words for the Year 2000 Computer Moral panic in this research of the New York
Times were "Year 2000 Problem," "Millennium Bug," and "Y2K." Variations of these three included
"Year 2000 Bug," "Y2K Bug," and "Y2K Problem." Other says used less frequently to describe the
moral panic were "glitch," "apocalyptic event," "challenge," "malfunction," and "bomb."
In several articles, economists warned of a "global economic slowdown" (Hansell 1998a).
The number and variety of the services mentioned throughout the articles show the potentially
widespread effects of the moral panic. Michael Cooper reported on 20 February 1998 that traffic
lights could fail and jail inmates could be released early (Cooper 1998). Prime Minister Tony Blair
was quoted in a 31 March 1998 article as saying that emergency services, such as hospitals, fire and
police, could be disrupted (Hoge 1998). The people react to this information by relating the moral
panic description to their own lives.

the year 2000, roughly 30 percent of 20 year olds in America were obese. By 2003 that number had

In 2013, the Harvard School of Public Health published a study they had conducted that found that
on average it would cost $1.50 more per day for one person to eat healthy rather than an unhealthy
diet. "Over the course of a year, $1.50/ day more for eating a healthy diet would increase food costs
for one person by about $550 per year. This would represent a real burden for some families"
(Harvard). For the average American family, this could pose a serious problem. The median
household income in America in 2015 was $57,000 (United States Census Bereau). The average
