History
Title IX was passed by congress in 1972. When discussing Title IX, most people will refer to gender equality in athletics and sports. Although this does
apply to state funded athletics and sports, this is only one of the ten areas that are addressed by the law. The following ten key areas fall under the
amendment: Access to higher education, athletics, career education, education for pregnant and parenting students, employment, learning environment,
math and science, sexual harassment, standardized testing, and technology. The intent of the law is to allow for gender equality across the board by
prohibiting any discrimination on the basis of sex. Prior to the law being passed, women in the 1970's were excluded from many opportunities.
Colleges and universities set a quota for the admission of women and access to scholarships. They needed earlier curfews, denied tenure, and had
more restrictive rules overall. The response to these concerns was the development of Title IX. The law reads: "No person in the United States shall,
on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or
activity receiving Federal financial assistance." Federal funding does not have to be monetary compensation. Examples include rent assistance,

The Importance Of Gender Equality In Education
All around the world, generations of children have grown up with a history of male leadership. Gender equality has always been and continues to be
a struggle, but with more awareness being shed on this problem, it has been improving on a local and global scale. However, governments still lack
the gender diversity in their leadership positions that is needed by today's standards and expectations. With more activism on a local and global level,
future generations will grow up becoming leaders without limitations due to their gender.
I have been able to grow up in a fortunate environment with a strong sense of equal gender opportunity, but there was always the absence of equal
gender icons to look up to when I was growing up. Most textbooks and lessons were filled with the accomplishments of male scientists, explorers,
artists, and most of all, leaders. It is essential that we educate children at a young age the importance for the push towards gender equality in leadership
positions. After all, it is difficult for little girls to believe teachers when say that they can grow up to be anything they want to be when there are
male–clad posters of the United States presidents hanging up on the wall behind them. We cannot change the faces of the past to match our egalitarian
expectations, but we can add an equal mix of genders to the curriculums and environments that all children grow up with to encourage them to change
the future.

Gender is what shapes an individual 's experience in his or hers own life 's, and it is also in a way, what determines their future weather they wanted
it to or not. Many cultures indeed favor a gender versus another. For example, in china if a couple first born is a baby boy than it is foretold that the
family will have good luck and wealth since the boy can take over the father 's place in the future and continue to provide for his family. The boy will
also carry their maiden name versus females that would have to give up her maiden name to her husbands to be. Causing the family to one day loses

generally make less money than men do in their country.
Even though our country supports equality in our gender, differences still are around us today. These very issues of a gender of our society have
had somewhat of an impact in my life for I was brought up with 4 older sisters and 1 younger brother. I was among the 4 older sisters the last of the
females. Since the day of my birth to this day both my parents immediately perceived me the role of a female and their daughter. With this intention
they did their best to teach me ways on how to become sensitive, caring and loving, and above it all, how to hold my tongue when a man is speaking.

Equality has been going on for years. Everything would make everything so much easier if it was Equal for both a men and a women. Where it's at
home, at work, or even at school. Why does one gender have to be better than another? ''Achieving Gender equality in education means that boys and
girls will have equal opportunities to realize their full human rights and contribute to and benefit from economic, social, cultural, and political
development.'' Our generation can benefit so much. But it if they can benefit why is this only happening in 35 states instead of all over the world.
The biggest Gender Equality problem has to do with education. A person's education shouldn't be determine because of their Gender. Both a man and
a women can have the same passion for education for wanting to be someone and go somewhere in life. In Pakistan a women doesn't have the equal
right to go to school and learn? This isn't just happening in Pakistan, it's passing in many other places. Now why does this affect a women more than it
a man? And that's because in Pakistan a women doesn't have the same right in education as a man does. But why not do something about it. Providing

In America, we're still seen to be nurturers , but we can choose whoever we want to marry, if we want kids, & how many we want. Unlike in
third–world countries, we're able to get an education, we can go to college, maybe even want to get married or not. In Iceland, it's better than
third–world countries & America too. As the second in the world for the highest in gender equality, it is a great place to live in. At young ages, girls

I partially agree with what the teacher said, however I don't think that gender equality is evident in every situation in the day to day life we're living,
however that doesn't mean that it doesn't occur to other women around the world.
Globally, women have fewer job opportunities than men, less access to basic and higher education, higher health and safety risks, and less
representation within government and politics. Guaranteeing the rights of women and giving them opportunities to reach their full potential is
extremely important not only for reaching true gender equality, but also for meeting a range of global development goals. Empowered women and girls

From young ages, girls are told what to be like. They're constantly exposed to the "perfect girl", the girl that a boy wants. This behaviour can cause
damaging effects by the time they're just 12 years old. The stereotype that girls need to be protected and looked after by big strong men is constantly
pushed. By the time they reach puberty, it's all about being modest. Being told that's "not lady like", to sit with your legs crossed, not to wear a short
skirt or you're a word that rhymes with flut. Many girls come to think that this is normal behaviour, that this is what they're meant to do.
Gender related challenges in the education system are an obstacle for economic growth and better career opportunities, especially for women.
Around one quarter of girls in the developing world don't go to school. Generally, families who cannot afford school fees, uniforms, and supplies for
all of their children will prioritize education for the boys in their family. Families may also rely on girls for household chores, carrying and collecting
water and childcare – leaving limited time for school. As this has been such a consistent issue and tradition throughout families, time makes it harder

By nature, people desire self expression, and some form of individualism. However, the desire inevitably will lead us to a cross road and a decision

I have come to realize that as much as people say that all humans are created equal, it is not often that they are actually treated that way. My
inspiration is derived from a desire to promote equality in society, to live in a world where people don't find themselves at a disadvantage by default
based on their gender, skin color, or sexuality. Gender equality is one of the issues near to my heart because I believe that young girls are the future
of this nation. Yet in my opinion, the way that women are treated here, in the most advanced country on the planet, is entirely unacceptable. We've
come a long way from the "women in the kitchen" ideals of the past, but still have so far to go. In the U.S. today, the gender wage gap is twenty
percent. This means that, on average, a woman will make only eighty cents for every dollar earned by a man. What kind of example is this setting for
children? This teaches our daughters, and our sons as well, that a female and her efforts are worth 20 percent less than that of a male, and that disturbs
me deeply.
As a woman, these issues affect me directly. In a wide variety of circumstances, I've found myself the subject of demeaning treatment from
members of the opposite sex. I was twelve the first time I was catcalled, a young girl barely aware of her own sexuality. Whether being catcalled by
teenage boys or being approached by middle aged men, it's a daily struggle against conditioning women have developed to be skeptical of all men.

A man versus a woman, the "Battle of the Sexes", it was a match that viewers tuned into everywhere. There was so much doubt expressed that a
woman, Billie Jean King, could beat her opponent, Bobby Riggs in a tennis match. Against all odds, Billie Jean King was crowned with the victory.
This legendary moment in history was important for the sport of tennis, but also the little girls everywhere that were not allowed to participate in
athletics like their male peers. In light of "Title IX", an amendment that promoted equality and the prohibition of gender and race discrimination in any
school or Federal–funded sport or activity, Billie Jean King became the face of feminism and gender equality, and can be accredited for her
contributions to the advancements for not just women athletes, but all women. Because of this victory, women athletes became more accepted in
society. Before this match, there was so much chatter about women being weak and brittle and that they did not size up to their male counterpart.
People argued that there was no way a woman could beat a man in athletics. But after this victory was won, women athletics gained a new kind of
acceptance. Girls everywhere were more interested in playing sports and participating in athletic activities. Before, little girls would get teased if
they showed an interest in athletics, for example, getting called a "tomboy." Now today, it is very common to see male and female teams for sports
in education programs and other recreational leagues. The change in how people viewed women in sports is very clear, and have come a long way
since that tennis match in 1973 and the introduction of Title IX. It is now much more common to see teams for softball, tennis, and basketball for girls.

  • 1. Equality And Gender Equality History Title IX was passed by congress in 1972. When discussing Title IX, most people will refer to gender equality in athletics and sports. Although this does apply to state funded athletics and sports, this is only one of the ten areas that are addressed by the law. The following ten key areas fall under the amendment: Access to higher education, athletics, career education, education for pregnant and parenting students, employment, learning environment, math and science, sexual harassment, standardized testing, and technology. The intent of the law is to allow for gender equality across the board by prohibiting any discrimination on the basis of sex. Prior to the law being passed, women in the 1970's were excluded from many opportunities. Colleges and universities set a quota for the admission of women and access to scholarships. They needed earlier curfews, denied tenure, and had more restrictive rules overall. The response to these concerns was the development of Title IX. The law reads: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." Federal funding does not have to be monetary compensation. Examples include rent assistance, financial aid/loans, or federal training.   • 2. The Importance Of Gender Equality In Education All around the world, generations of children have grown up with a history of male leadership. Gender equality has always been and continues to be a struggle, but with more awareness being shed on this problem, it has been improving on a local and global scale. However, governments still lack the gender diversity in their leadership positions that is needed by today's standards and expectations. With more activism on a local and global level, future generations will grow up becoming leaders without limitations due to their gender.
