Our commercial radio show targeted 15-29 year olds. We played popular chart songs that this age group enjoys. The technical quality was higher than our other shows due to the larger audience. Between songs, we discussed celebrity gossip and tweets to keep listeners interested, choosing topics featuring widely known celebrities. Overall, it was our best show with well-chosen music and no technical faults.

Big Hits Commercial Radio Show Review
1. Big Hits Commercial Radio Show ReviewKelsey Keighley
For our last radio show we produced a show for a Commercial radio.
Our commercial radio show had quite a specific target audience which was people aged 15 -29, this
is because a commercial radio station has a much bigger audience than internet and in store radios.
We chose songs that were on the top charts and were the most popular, because that’s what people
want to hear with this age range want to hear.
With this show I think the technical quality was really good, it was better than internet and in store
shows because it needs to be higher quality with having a wider audience. The faders were
extremely good, better than our last shows. This is because we listened to our other radio shows
that we had produced before this and picked out all the faults we found to make sure it didn’t
happen again.
We spoke about topics such as ‘funny celeb tweets’ and ‘celeb gossip’ we did this because between
songs we needed things to speak about and instead of speaking about the songs we spoke about
different celebrities but ones that everyone if not most people know. We chose these topics also
because we wanted the audience to be interested in our show, something different than just
speaking about the music that we played. The only thing is me and Emma laughed at the end but I
don’t think this is a fault because it didn’t sound out of place.
Personally I think this radio show was our best out of all three we produced. The song choice fit our
target audience really well and we didn’t have any faults throughout.
2. Big Hits Commercial Radio Show ReviewEmma Upton
The final show we produced was our Commercial Radio show called Emma and Kelsey’s big hits.
Because this show was a commercial radio show the audience would be the largest out of all our
other shows audiences we have had to cater for. Due to the fact the audience would be larger there
would be lots of people with different tastes listening, so we would have to use a range of different
music so anyone and everyone could listen and enjoy.
As a commercial radio show the age range was 15-29 year olds that would be listening, so in order to
cater to that age range we played mostly chart music because that is whats mostly listened to in that
age range. However we made sure to play music from different genres so anyone could enjoy
listening, for example we played Storm Queen – Look Right Through which is deep house or dance
music, and we also played Macklemore ft. Ryan Lewis ft. Wanz – Thrift Shop which is rap, two very
different genres.
Because we were recording a commercial radio show the technical quality had to be quite high,
because the budget is the highest out of all the radio shows we have produced. So the expectations
for the show would be very high. I think we handled the technology very well, we handled it the best
out of all three shows. We didn’t have any dead air, not even when changing songs like in the other
shows. I think this is because we are comfortable using the faders now. So I believe this show had
the best technical quality, and I’m very pleased with how it turned out.
The topics we spoke about were celeb gossip and the funniest celeb tweets we could find from that
week. With celeb gossip we spoke about Kanye West’s newest music video, which featured his
girlfriend KimKardashian naked on a motorbike and that Seth Rogen and James Franco made their
own parody video. For celeb tweets we included tweets from ZooeyDeschael and Paris Hilton. We
talked mostly about celebs to keep the listeners interested and we made sure to feature celebs that
are very well known so the audience would know who we were talking about. We also included
some information about a few tracks that we played, for example after we played Eminem we spoke
about the album the song was from. So I think everything we spoke about was relevant to the show
and catered to the audience well.
