3. BACKGROUND OF ISLAND RECORDS
Island records are a multi-genre record label that feature a wide
range of artists from many different genres such as hip hop and
pop but also features a wide array of alternative artists.

Island records have a large range of artists they support from
The Killers to Sean Paul so I think that my idea would be
suitable due to their wide range of artist styles and genres
As a record label with a large success with Alternative bands
such as The Killers and Fall Out Boy I believe that my video
work will fit in.

4. THE IDEA
After doing an audience research survey we found out that the
most liked one of our possible narratives is this one ­ Character
walks along a beach, cuts to empty road, character still walking,
cuts again, character walking through crowd, cuts again
character walking through alley, Walking through train station,
Performance shots. Through the rest of the video the artist
keeps walking with cuts between location and some
performance shots, at the end he maybe meets someone or
reaches a location of note? The survey shows that the other
narrative with the photo was also popular so we decided to join
them together and have the character walking in many different
locations searching for what is in the photo from the start of the
video until he finds what is in the photograph from the start of
the video. Potential split in music for a block of narrative / story,
fits with conventions.

5. FORM
CONVENTIONS
OF FORM AND GENRE
Not as important as genre, conventions of form
are what is conventional of a music video as a
video. It is conventional for a music video to
have parts that have the video and audio that
link. It is also conventional for the video to link to
the lyrics and to feature lip syncing.
GENREThe conventions of genre are important to
consider when making a music video. Within the
alternative music genre there are a wide range
of conventions that I will need to stick to when
making my video. One being the large use of a
narrative in the video. Alternative music videos
also feature a large range of artistic shot types
mainly showing the location.

From this information we have labeled our target
audience as males between the age of 16 and 25
with a small portion of females falling into that
category. We feel that the other 11% of the age
range that was not in the 16­25 category was an
anomaly and will be ignored.
