1. I gave gathered audience feedback on our news programme; I did this by arranging a focus
group. From this I got mixed reviews both positive and negative. When editing all of my
interviews, I only chose the most important questions and answers to include in my actual
story.
My first news story was copy only, a story on the poisoning of several innocent dogs in the
famous event, Crufts Dog Show. The purpose of his story was to inform the audience about
the situation. There are a number negative and positive reviews on this particular story,
both me and the audience agree that I spoke slightly too fast and I spoke with a robotic
voice as if I was looking straight from my script, It didn’t sound natural. It also didn’t really
meet the needs of our target audience as it’s not a topic teenagers are interested in. A few
positive points I received was that he story was well written and easy to follow. I agree with
this feedback and will take it on board, I do think the audio was also at a great volume the
main disadvantage was my delivery of the story.
My second story was a voicer, a story on teenagers turning to alcohol and drug abuse
throughout England. In this story I asked a local supermarket security guard his opinion on
the new ROC Café that has opened and welcomes teenagers in to keep them occupied and
out of trouble. This is a serious, informative story. The negative points I got for this story
was the length of the interview, I could have asked a few more questions and got a lot more
answers out of the interviewee. The audience put across that the topic of the story was a
very positive point as it is a serious subject throughout the UK. Another positive point was
that this story met he needs of our target audience because the story was about teenagers.
For my third and final story I did vox pops, which consists of me interviewing a number of
different people around my college to find out their opinions on a certain subject. In this
case, the subject was where the voting age should be lowered or not. This story is both
serious and informative. I didn’t get a lot of negative reviews for this story the only problem
was there should have been more questions. I got a lot of positive reviews, I spoke clearly,
got a lot of opinions from a good number of different people and it was a great topic. I do
think this story is the strongest out of all 3 as I fits perfectly with our target audience and
was great topic at the time of the election. I also do agree with all the feedback I got from
my stories and the news programme itself and I will take everything on board for my next
broadcast.
Overall I think our news story came out very good because most of the topics we included
for our stories are informative and meet the needs of our target audience. Not only were
they informative but we had a mixture of stories such as, animals, murders, politics and
football. The only negative points are the volume and slight mistakes when speaking but
they are hardly noticeable. If I could do anything differently I would practise he script before
I recorded it to have a less robotic voice.
