1. Radio Programme Review
When we got the assignment we were told thatwould be producing a radio
show for our college. To come up with ideas for how we were going to style
our radio show we listened at first we had an idea where the show would be
based around one genre of music which we got from listening to a show on
BBC radio 2 a year in the life, which was based around the Beatles. But to get
an idea on what are target audience wanted to listen to we created a survey
on survey monkey and sent it out to pupils around college. The results shown
that pupils wanted to listen to a variety of different genres on one show. For
the second radio show we had to create an in store radio programme for
Tesco. This would not only involve choosing the songs that would be played
but as well as creating the adverts that would be played during the show. To
choose the songs that would be played on the show we listened coops in store
radio see what type of songs it played to its target audience. During the
recording of the show we would often announce in store deals aswell as having
news announcements, from local to world news. After discussing the type of
radio show we were going to do we had to start creating a jingle. For both the
E6 radio and Tesco radio jingle I used editing software called REAPER, Using
this I merged and cut down short soundtracks and overlaid my audio over the
track, using reaper I also changed the pitch of both my voice and the music in
the radio jingle. The backing music I chose for the radio jingles where based
around the target audience. For the show we also researched songs that we
were going to play on the show using song facts. We looked at things like the
release date and if the song had any particular meaning to the artist or band
that wrote the song and small facts about songs such as Adele’s skyfall being
the only James Bond theme to be number one in the charts. Doing that
research was helpful if we ran out of things to talk about during our show.
Then we started to have practice runs of our radio show in the studio getting
used the using the soundboard and creating a schedule for our show so there
would be no dead air while on the radio. While learning how to use the studio
equipment I learnt how navigate around the radio software and how to create
a playlist as well as how to search for specific songs or artists. In our practice
2. runs I learnt what everything on the soundboard did from controlling the
microphone volume to the volume of the music, we also learnt how to find out
how long the intro for songs where so we could start the songs over the intro
to the songs while still speaking so we could minimise the amount of dead air
on our radio show. The whole sound board is relatively easy to understand,
with all the basic controls such as volume control and microphone control
needing just to slide the switch.
I think the show went well although parts of the show where it could have
gone better such as parts were there is dead air during the first recorded show
although there weren’t much dead air only parts in between announcing songs
and the songs playing. Although there was some bad parts of the show there
were good sides to the show where me and Cullum improvised for some
talking parts of the show. I think both shows would have been appealing to
both the targets audiences. If I were to redo the radio show I would choose to
have a slightly longer show with more songs played back to back and back
announce the songs instead of announcing songs either before or right after
the song had been played.
