While reading this book I found myself making notes on how I disagree with certain topics but I

Senior executives at a large, low–cost manufacturer of appliances and white goods were concerned
about the sluggish performance of the company's household fan business. It had long been among
the top leading players in the company's home country–an emerging market–but was now losing
domestic share in two important, and fiercely competitive, product categories.
The company's leaders suspected that a stagnant product portfolio was partly to blame; they had
been focusing a considerable amount of attention on operations and had neglected to revisit fan

Yet the teardown showed that as compared with competitors, the company was "overbuilding" its
products significantly and that identical–or even better–product performance was possible at a lower
cost if the team was willing to rethink its design approaches.
Some of the resulting design changes were quite straightforward and even, in retrospect, obvious.
Yet the team acknowledged that the new ideas didn't click until the teardown, when the evidence
was spread out on the table for discussion. By modifying the cover of one type of household fan, for
example, the team made it unnecessary to include an internal bracket assembly that had supported
the original cover–a savings of 7 percent per unit. This change, like most cost–saving opportunities
the team identified, was invisible to customers and didn't matter to them (for an example of one
model, see diagram).
Many of the individual cost–saving opportunities the team identified were small. But the collective
impact was huge–helping the company to reduce the total cost of manufacturing its fans by more
than 10 percent, against a cost base that was already quite competitive. Meanwhile, consumers
received the new designs well, and that contributed to a 50 percent jump in operating profit in the
first year of their introduction and helped elevate the company to the number two spot in the market
(up from number three) over that time span.

With watching the film Makers, it showed me how women pushed womens rights and never gave up
no matter what. The films were inspirational and motivating in my eyes with also telling me that
women can do just as much as a man. With Katherine Switzer being the first woman to run in the
Boston Marathon, I think it motivated women to be more open about their home lives. What is the
big deal with a woman running in a marathon? Well, the film reminded me why that was and it is
because men felt like they are the only ones that should have the power. I saw how this effected
women and the fact that the women came forward to make sure that their voices were being heard

Children develop bad habits at a young age and continue these bad habits until they are corrected.
Sometimes these things aren't corrected until its almost too late. Habits can be picked up from
parents, grandparents, coaches, and peers. I know that the longer I am around someone the more I
act like that person. In any sport you will have many coaches and you will learn something you
didn't know with every coach you have. But some things aren't developed from others, some players
are born with these characters and help them become the type of player they are.
1. The Dramatic Player: The dramatic player overreacts about everything to draw attention to their
self so they can be the center of attention. For example, on my basketball team Susie is constantly
getting hurt. One day at practice she gently fell to the ground and instantly started acting like she
had fallen from a 10 story building. As a teammate of Susie I have learned that it is easier to give her
the attention as soon as she starts acting out. Another type of player is one that makes everything
said to them a big deal. Some players on the team cannot take criticism, or being told what to do.

The Excuse maker: The excuse maker constantly has a rhyme or reason to why they did not do
something or to why they did do something. For example, Lilly on my basketball team will blame
her man scoring on someone else when clearly they scored because she wasn't playing any defense.
The most common excuse used in basketball is "that wasn't my man" when in reality nine times out
of ten it is the excuse makers man. These types of players would rather the team suffer than put forth
the effort to do what is asked of them. Like people say "one bad apple will ruin the whole bunch", I

After visiting the concert hall and the museum, a night of good food and rest is needed. I want to
learn about Dutch culture, history, activities, geographical features, architecture, society, and
cuisine. According to the I Amsterdam website, "From its earliest days, Amsterdam has been a
